let's not kid ourselves this is a very tedious connection but i took it as an excuse to word dump a bit about the kind of dynamic i sometimes like to imagine with historical canonverse dennor. poorly backed up musings under the cut

based on like .05 seconds of research i did at some point i got the impression that historically, even when they formed a united country, d.enmark had more power over n.orway (or at the very least, more power than n.orway) than vice versa, and it got me thinking about power dynamics. this is just my own headcanon but i could see it like... nor knows full well that their relationship is unequal and den could at any point mistreat him with little repercussion but at the same time nor knows he never would. cocky and arrogant and power hungry though he may be, the affection or even love den has for nor is genuine and he would never think of treating nor with anything less than full respect. then again, a situation where one person has considerable power over the other is no foundation for a fully comfortable and normally functional relationship, and their weird romance has that undercurrent of instability built in. although i think for countries this kind of messed up relationship is kind of the norm since at any given time there's usually some kind of power imbalance going on, not to mention inherently clashing political interests... anyway, dubiously historically accurate musings aside, i couldn't resist putting them in vaguely viking era clothes even though the situation i was going for could be slightly more believably connected to their 16th century union ahahaaaa

Not to be sappy but I'm thinking about how every dialect of French still spoken in the U.S originates from Acadian, and how ASL, which originates from French sign language, is still the official sign language of Canada even though the creation of ASL and the first American Deaf school was specifically an act of rebellion against the British Empire post revolutionary war when Canada was still a part of it and just like.... Matt and Al taking their Papa Francis' languages and making them their own and using them with each other, and just sharing a very specific aspect of French diaspora culture in that way. I am so soft for these boys 🥹

APH America "Ethnography" and Headcanons (SFW)

The United States of America, Alfred F. Jones, Mr. Stars and Stripes, 'Merica, Pretty Boy, um... or just simply America.

Here is a list of data I have gathered from this country and oh boy, what an interesting specimen we have here....

Ethnography

You will find this find this mythological creature at your local Walmart superstore during the evening hours on a weekday, sporting flannel loungewear pants (The plaid kind), a cotton t-shirt that definitely has been worn no less than two (2) times, Old Navy $1 flip flops, and a gray jacket.

When asked about his late night runs to the popular supermarket chain, his answer is just simply:

"There's nothing else to do and no where to go."

America's Cart Inventory for March 22nd:

One (1) package of "Mega Stuf Chocolate Oreos" for $5.97, One (1) 6-Pack of "Starbucks Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drinks" in Caramel Flavor for $7.98, One (1) Family Sized Bag of "Flaming Hot Cheetos" for $5.94, One (1) "Furby Interactive Toy" for $39.19, and One (1) Stick of " Axe Apollo Men's Deodorant Stick" for $4.97. Total of purchase was $64.05 before tax.

When questioned about the "Furby Interactive Toy", he replies:

"Yeah dude, there's this thing I wanna make that's called a "Long Furby". Wanna come by my place and check it out?"

I agreed to the invination as it would give me a better look into his living space and lifestyle. He's very friendly person.

House is a what you would expect from a typical American college student such as:

"Saturdays Are For The Boys" banner flag, Marvel and DC posters, a very unsettling looking blue leather couch that looks like it has been through hell and back, random dumbbells and untouched exercise equipment, every game console from the 1972 "The Magnavox Odyssey" to the PS5, action figures from various popular TV shows and comics, an old KFC bucket with half eaten chicken on the coffee table and a shelf with a huge vinyl record and CD collection.

Conclusion: What a fucking gross nerd.

America offers a cold can of Coca-Cola, I accept it.

He shows me a very long light blue "Long Furby" from his collection, further proving how much of a dork he was.

When asked what kind of music he liked (in regards to his music collection), he replies:

"That's hard to answer, it changes every week. Because of my diverse music, I pretty much like everything. One week I could be listening to 1980's classic rock, 2000's techno-pop, Bluegrass Country, 1990's Hip Hop or anything. But, if I had to give you this week's favorite artist, it would have to be Taylor Swift and Doja Cat."

"Interesting..." I replied.

I have recorded enough data for today (the smell was bothering me) and left his home to do further extensive research.

Headcanons:

America has a deep love for cars and trucks, he can be seen working on his vintage 1968 Dodge Charger R/T called 'Thunderbird' (an absolute speed demon that can reach at top speeds of muthafuckin' 156 mph), and his enormous 2019 Ford F-150 'Big John' that he loves to drive to world meetings because he is a total stud muffin showoff.

Oh yeah, he defiantly modded 'Big John' horns with airblasters. So when he parks his car and he sees other nations come out of their vehicles, he pounds on that horn and scares the living shit out of them.

He totally does 2 am donuts in the Thunderbird the front of Walmart parking lots with his brother Canada to freak him out.

Other than seeing him work on his cars while listening to "Waking Up in Vegas by Katy Perry" on the radio, he's in his room sorting out his action figure and comic book collection.

Damn, what what a geek.

He has an eBay account where he buys, trades and auctions his collection as his interests constantly change.

If you think him being a geek, dork and a nerd is gonna save him from getting a basic ass Stanley cup, you're wrong.

He has a navy blue one that he takes to meetings and he would get dirty looks from the other nations.

"Goddamn it America, you do not need that much coffee."

"Fuck you, you scone sucking twink. It's not coffee, it's the Panera Super Charged Lemonade mixed with Redbull."

"I beg your fucking pardon..."

He gave Canada a red one for his birthday that he also takes with him to meetings.

"Canada, mon ami~. That better not be that merde American drinks that makes your heart explode."

"No, it's Tim Hortons iced coffee."

"Well.. that's better than what America drinks..."

Hello! :D

Well I became interested in hetalia when I first kind of started secondary school (UK) soo I think around 13 or something I became interested in hetalia? Then at 13/14 is when I first started getting interested in the country of Mongolia, so I guess me liking aph Mongolia was just a natural marriage between the two interests haha.

I guess I started to like hetalia because I've always been a history nerd and an anime/manga fan, and I've always liked learning about different cultures, so hetalia seemed like the perfect manga/anime for me. Admittedly, Mongolia wasn't immediately my fave character, Russia was my first favourite character. I was also a weird kid and a lot of my weird friends liked hetalia too! (I say weird in a good way).

When it comes to being interested in the country of Mongolia, I think it was because I got really tired of learning about European history. Not that I only focussed on European history when it came to my different historical obsessions lol I mean I had a huge ancient Egypt phase, but I wanted more. I've heard about the Mongols and their impact on European history but it was mostly to do with the spread of the black death (the UK wasn't affected by the Mongol invasions). Also when I was obsessed with Russia (still kind of am..) there were more mentions of the Mongols so I was like eh why not.

When I started to do more research on Mongolia's history, the more fascinated I became with it. I've always had an affinity towards cultures that were labelled as "barbaric" by its neighbours (I'm not saying I view the Mongols as barbaric, not at all, just that they were labelled that way), which explains my pretty huge Scottish history phase lol.

I was impressed by what they were able to achieve despite being the underdogs at the time, and the unique nomadic culture of Mongolia further drew me in to being interested in the country and it's history. Even beyond the empire era and before the empire era, Mongolian history is incredibly interesting.

The secrecy that Mongolian history is shrouded in before they came onto the world stage because of the lack of records to do with the Mongols, the huge Mongolic/Turkic empires that came before the Mongols, what the true origins of the Mongols are, Mongolia during the Ming and Qing dynasties, mass conversion to Buddhism, Mongolia's fight for independence in the 20th century and transition from communism to capitalism, and Mongolia today, it's all just so alluring.

Mongolian culture also really drew me in. It seemed so different from my own and I couldn't help but just, idk, keep on reading about it haha.

With all of this in mind, I guess this is why I'm so interested in aph Mongolia as a character. Going about characterising a man (or woman if you prefer) with such a rich and complicated history was a challenge I was willing to take up, and the more I learn about Mongolian history and culture (bc you never stop learning! ) the more and more complex he becomes.

Many hetalia fans in the past have just brushed him off as some brute and basically used him as the local villain of the week in a lot of their fics (I mean some still do it today but it's not as bad as it used to be...) and it frustrates me to no end because it just reeks of typical anti-Mongolian sentiment. There's nothing wrong with making him the bad guy in fics, everyone is free to show the dark sides of nations in their fics or art etc (I have a fanfiction myself where he is acting like an asshole, empire era).

But as I said before, the way in which Mongolia is characterised in a lot of fics (because it's usually fics) is just blatantly racist and/or ignorant towards Mongolian history and culture, and the writers would never depict another nation is such an unflattering manner, so yeah they're just using Mongolia as a cheap villain or they cheapen the character of Mongolia into a caricature as a grab for an easy one dimensional villain, which is a huge disservice to the history and people of Mongolia.

Even now, I'm still trying to be kind of careful with how I characterise Mongolia, because ignorance doesn't have to be blatant in order for it to still shine through. In the past, I've seen people hypermasculinise Mongolia and other central Asian characters. Listen, there's nothing wrong with headcanoning a character as being more on the masc side, I headcanon Mongolia to be more masc too!

But the issue comes from when people completely have a lack of nuance when it comes to masculinity in Mongolia and central Asia, and it really runs the risk of depicting them as barbaric and backwards. I've noticed how in the past, some people would hyperfeminise East Asian countries (more often than not, China) and in turn, hypermasculinise Mongolia, and it paints a pretty ugly picture when these same writers/artists make headcanons or art or whatnot.

Another thing I'm being careful with is how I headcanon Mongolia and technology. I know it's a joke amongst people that he can't even turn on a computer (and to those who joke ab this dw I'm aware it's a joke) but it becomes an issue when people unironically go around saying stuff like that, in my opinion (I don't think he's a technology wizard but c'mon he's not completely disconnected from technology to the point where he can't even use a laptop properly).

Some people tend to romanticise the rurality of Mongols and paint them as being a "happy, simple people" who are "too good for technology/capitalism." and this is just the classic "noble savage" trope all over again, just seen through a hetalia lens.

Of course, the nomadic lifestyle, generous hospitality and connection to nature is inseparable from Mongolian culture, and I would never try to deny or argue against that, it's one of the main reasons why I admire Mongolian culture so much in the first place! But going around perpetuating the noble savage stereotype only feeds into silly ideas outsiders have about Mongolian people. I've seen Westerners say crap like they're surprised that Mongolia has restaurants and wifi! And one of my Mongolian friends had an American literally say very boldly to them "I thought Mongolians still lived like cavemen" ⁉️⁉️

So yeah, I do hope my depiction/interpretation of Mongolia is thoughtful dhdsjd sorry I did kind of go off on a tangent. I'm aware that this is hetalia and it's not supposed to be a serious anime but am passionate and I hope I didn't come off too strong 😨

I think people's downright awful/racist depictions of aph Mongolia has only made me more passionate about him because I want to prove them so wrong haha! And it's the same with the actual nation. If anyone tries to argue with me about how the Mongol empire sucked because they were just "muhh barbarians" I will absolutely argue with them about it lol.

My English teacher decided to give us some balloons to take care of until next week as a nice challenge for the end of our last year of middle school (idk how school works outside my country so I'll just assume it's middle school) so we would have some nice memories. My class personalized them and now it's really cute aaa. I made Richarlyson from QSMP and now he's just sleeping somewhere safe from the children in my house lol.

We lost three out of sixteen Children (balloon) today though. Almost four, because a boy let his child float away while trying to make it drop to the school's courtyard (I mean, what did he expect???), but then decided to break into the abandoned house next to our school to look for it. The balloon is safe now though :D

I was with some friends on our way back home, but the sun was strong so we hid the children inside our coats. One of my friends didn't want to and suddenly her balloon exploded, like two minutes after she said it. :'(

We created a message group to send the photos of our balloons, they are just so cute ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Rarepair Hetalia Week - DAY VI - Mermaids n' Pirates

Almost last work for @hwsrarepairweek2022! - This is the first time I do this kind of AU, so while I was drawing it, that line came up and then I had the idea of a context for this:

Iberia is a Mermaid Queen, ruler of the Mediterranean area. She has two children who are the inheriters of the kingdom. It is said there is a whole country-like under the seas made of pure gold and pearls. Of course this makes marines and pirates to navigate there, but there are legends of being devoured and the ships always dissapeared.

Our ambitious Arthur goes to adventure to find treasures with his crew, but their destiny is the same as everyone else. Fortunately for him, the princes weren't hunting for her mother or for them (yes, human meat is a delicatessen), and one of them rescued him and put him in land. The mermen have never been seeing by humans, and then Kirkland, after a couple of months, went to look for him once again. Since it seemed an accident - or the human is a total dork - Portugal rescues him again and then this scene happens.

Nop, t's not a fic, just the idea came out alone so, I shared it with you!

Thanks to @geocore who let me use their desing of sea-creature Portugal, as they imagine him from the myths. I applied it for a merman and it fits perfectly so, welcome to my new visual headcanon my friend )?

8. Do they get along with each other’s friends and family?

-Aphid and Hurk are pretty good buddies, they chat, and Aphid will (skeptically) listen to Hurks stories about his times out of the country. He tries not to prod at the holes in them, but once in a while, he'll say something like, "So you took out a whole organization with no other help at all? Ever? Where was this when we almost died 3 weeks ago to that heavily guarded cult outpost?" But it's usually in jest and he tries not to be too serious about it

Aphid is slightly uncomfortable with Adelaides flirting, and at first he would avoid her but after a while he actually asks her to tone it down just a little and they finally actually start talking. They bond over the fact that neither of them can stand Hurk Sr.

Also, Aphid can't be within 30 feet of hurk Sr. Because he's certain that he'll fucking kill him.

-Aphids in no contact with his parents, but Sharky does get along as well as he can with his sister. Ruby is kinda weird about it at first ("aph.... him? Are you sure?") But it really hard to argue with him on it especially when he hasn't shut the fuck up about this dude for months before she finally meets him. Aphid walks away for 5 minutes and she off handed mentions a dumb story from when they were kids and now Sharky has to know more and Aphid get back to his boyfriend and finds out he now knows about the time he slipped in the shower pulled the curtain rod down and somehow it managed to hit the mirror and his sister found him tangled in the curtain flattened to the wall because he was scared of getting glass in his foot and they're both laughing at him now.

20. Are they interested in marriage? Why or why not?

I think Aphid is more interested in just being married than a full ceremony, just like, go to the court house get the certificate, maybe a ring, and then fuck off for 3 weeks for a honeymoon and never tell anybody. Sharky probably would probably not even think about it unless it was brought up, I cannot for the life of me imagine him thinking about it unless someone says something to him

26. What holidays do they like?

Halloween people fr, couples costumes, candy, alcohol, they decorate the way to their house in a way that's like a gauntlet to the poor kids who just want candy (older kids have to get candy for the little ones often)

39. Who gets hit on the most?

I think it's equal but Aphid never realizes when anyone hits on either of them, meanwhile Sharky only notices when it happens to Aphid. So he thinks it's unbalanced, but it really isn't.

46. How do they make each other laugh?

Part of the reason Aphid fell for Sharky is because of his humor, he thinks Sharky is funny, his stories and bad puns and jokes, even the moe raunchy ones just makes him laugh. Sharky makes him laugh by being himself and it's the most people see him smile.

Sharky is a giggle box fr and Aphid has fun timing with off handed comments where he'll say something like, Sharky pauses to think about it, and then struggles to stifle a giggle for like 10 minutes and Aphid is alway very proud of himself for this. Aphid does very subtle humor but it's always with Sharky in mind

Q: This event is called aph asia week, so why is it 10 days?

A: With the addition of many new Asian characters, we wanted to represent more lesser known countries and encourage content for underrated characters but didn’t change the event name.

Q: Who can I create content for? Can I only create content for a particular nation on their designated day?

A: Yes. You can make content for any Asian nation at any time during the event. If you want to spend the whole week making content of your Asian OC, be my guest! If you want to make content of Thailand for the whole week, even though he’s the prompt for just one day, feel free! As long as you include an Asian nation in your content, you can do whatever you want at any point during the event.

Q: I won’t be able to submit my work on the day it’s for! Can I still submit it?

A: Yes. I will reblog any content for the event no matter what day it’s for. I will also reblog late submissions 1-2 weeks after the event has ended.

Q: Can I combine prompts from different days?

A: Yes. You may use as many or as few prompts as you want. Ex. you could combine a theme from day 1 with the quote from day 2 and write about your OC instead of using the nation prompt; you could just choose the nation from day 4 and make art about them without using other prompts; anything works, as long as content is for an Asian hetalia character (canon or not).

Q: For the days that have multiple characters as prompts, do I need to make content including all of them?

A: No. As stated previously, you can make content of any Asian nation you want for any day of the event. You do not have to follow the nation prompts, and you don’t need to include all the nations for a particular day. The reason there are days with multiple characters is because there are too many canon Asian characters to fit into 10 days if I give each their own prompt day.

Q: What sort of content is allowed?

A: Any—writing, art, cosplay, aesthetics, edits, headcanons; anything goes.

Q: Can I make more than one piece of content for the same prompt/day?

A: Yes; multiple entries are totally fine.

Q: Do I have to make content for every day of the event?

A: No. You can participate for only one day or just choose a few you’d really like to do.

Didn’t have much time to work on it due to school but this is for @tenduw‘s aph country of the week event! I’m not that great at drawing so I hope it turned out ok. I took inspiration from many of the videos that tenduw posted and drew Seychelles in what I think would be her causal clothes. Seychelles is made up of 115 islands and is a very popular tourist destination due to it’s amazing beaches! Seychelles has a wide variety of land and ocean life (roughly 200 plant species and 900 species of identified fish). Most meals here contain fish, and fishing in itself is popular. Before France colonised the islands, Seychelles had no human residents (although it was a Pirate hideout for a while), so the beaches and lush rainforests all over the islands are largely untouched. Many of Seychelles’ islands still have no human residents on them!
