My interpretation of New Zealand - The Pearl of Oceania
Ahh, before I begin, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the country of the week this week! Thank you for reading my content and creating your own content, it really means a lot haha.
Anyway, on with the interpretation.
New Zealand for me, is someone who doesn't seem interesting or out of the ordinary until you get to know them. A country who's mellow nature easily gets overshadowed by Australia, they're used to not being the centre of attention and unlike other nations (such as Canada,) they are more content with this fact.
A result of this however, is that they are constantly lost in their own thoughts. Theories, imagination, you name it, they just think a lot. Most of the other nations who have tried to reach out to them end up being put off by this aspect of them, as half the time it feels like Hunapo isn't even paying attention to them. And to be fair, half the time they aren't.
However, the few nations that don't give up their pursuit of friendship will see the absolute wealth behind our resident Kiwi's thoughts. Their thoughts may be random, but there is knowledge, there is reason behind each thought. They are a perfect mix of methodical and creative due to this, and would probably be the perfect person for a team building challenge or a video game team.
They are more neutral in the terms of stance, resonating with neither the people or the government. They do however, hold onto their Maori roots, as they have the opinion that letting go would be like removing a part of them. This is one of the few things that they and Australia disagree over, as NZ strongly believes this (it is one of the three things they are willing to fight over)
Hunapo is a sweetheart though, and totally does own a farm.
Characters they remind me of:
Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter)
Tumblr media
Madeline Hatter (Ever After High)

How I see Ecuador - The Light of South America
Ahh, I can't believe it's the end of Ecuador week already. Thank you all for taking part and reading the posts from this week! It really does mean a lot to see your fanart and reblogs for the country of the week!
Anyway, on with how I see Ecuador.
Ahh, for me, he is very optimistic (hence the title) and very observant. He is someone who is peaceful at heart and rather laid back, however he is also someone who would react, albeit reluctantly if he is pushed to it.
He kind of strays away from any drama between nations (I mean arguments, not wars) and tends to focus on his native animals. As a result, he is a little out of touch when it comes to discussing normal life with the other nations.
He tends to see the best in people and is a firm believer in the idea that no one is inherently evil - this causes him to butt heads with more cynical nations like Belarus or Mongolia, who I see as having a rather negative view on humankind.
As a result of this, it is rather easy for other nations to take advantage of him - something that Venezuela will point out whenever the two have a serious discussion.
Despite not being the one to reach out for a family meeting, Ecuador is the person who would do his best to make sure that everyone is included and there, as family is something that is really important to him - and always has been.
Ahh, the fictional characters I think he may be most similar to are:
Aang (Avatar the Last Airbender)
Tumblr media
Frank Zhang (Heroes of Olympus)

A short history of New Zealand
Polynesians settled in New Zealand in 1250-1300 AD and developed a distinctive Maori culture. Europeans first made contact in 1642 AD.
The first Europeans known to have reached New Zealand were Dutch explorer Abel Tasman and his crew in 1642. Four of them and one Maori were killed. Europeans did not revisit New Zealand until 1769 when British explorer James Cook mapped almost the entire coastline.
Following him, several ships cruised near New Zealand trading food, metal tools, weapons and other goods for timber, food, artefacts, water, and, on occasion, sex. Europeans introduced potatoes, diseases and animals. The introduction of weapons resulted in Musket Wars between the Maori tribes encompassing over 600 battles between 1801 and 1840. Between 30,000 and 40,000 Maori were killed. Their population declined 40% during the 19th century.
The Treaty of Waitangi that claims sovereignty for the British Crown was signed in the Bay of Islands on 6 February 1840. New Zealand, originally part of the colony of New South Wales, became a separate Crown colony in 1841. Following concerns that the South Island might form a separate colony, the crown transferred the capital from Auckland to Wellington due to its harbour and central location. The parliament officially sited over there for the first time in 1865.
As immigrant numbers increased, conflicts over land led to the New Zealand Land Wars of the 1860s and 1870s, resulting in the loss and confiscation of much Maori land. From then on, notable dates include:
1. 1893: the country became the first nation in the world to grant all women the right to vote.
2. 1894: New Zealand pioneered the adoption of compulsory arbitration between employers and unions.
3. 1907: New Zealand declared itself a Dominion within the British Empire.
4. 1947: the country adopted the Statute of Westminster, making New Zealand a Commonwealth country.
New Zealand is now a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of New Zealand and the head of state. The Queen is represented by the Governor-General, whom she appoints on the advice of the Prime Minister.
New Zealand was involved in world affairs, fighting alongside the British Empire in the first and second World Wars. A Maori protest movement developed after WWII, which worked for greater recognition of Maori culture and the Government has negotiated settlements of these grievances.
