The vast majority of frogs lack teeth on the lower jaw. These are not true teeth, but projections of the dentary bone itself. Based on the gif above, there’s no question what these are for.

i really do wish there was more direct character to character interactions in cotl, like you rarely see anything other than characters talking to lamb or sometimes mentioning another character. but rarely interacting with each other outside of followers. only one i can think of is this thing with the lighthouse keeper meeting the mushroomos. what is he doing in anura anyhow.

RIGHT I'm such a sucker for character interaction it's the one thing I crave more than anything in the world and COTL gives us a whole lot of. None of it It's why all the things I'm tempted to write would be like 90% character interaction. I want the bishops to INTERACT AT ALL as cult members (beyond random chance follower stuff), I want Ratoo and Ratau to catch up on each other's lives, I want the knucklebones gang to talk and bicker amongst themselves. I want Midas to steal from someone random. I want Plimbo and the Fisherman to talk to each other because I don't know they have each other's vibes.

But at the very least YEAH, we have that one super random interaction between the lighthouse keeper and the Mushroomos. Which comes out of nowhere and adds very little other then to maybe further imply to me that the Mushroomo's existence is considered odd. And that even tho the Mushroomos are quite nervous around the Lamb and Sozo they will go "HEY... That was mean :(" when insulted hsdgkshdg

as for the Wiki yeah I've learned it's pretty unreliable? Well. Not completely, but dialogue is indeed missing from it -- I realized that when I had these encounters in Anura and ALSO snapped a picture of it because I was like HEY WAIT A SECOND THESE WEREN'T IN THE WIKI!!!!!

Regardlesss!!!! yes....... if there's any more big updates in the future I hope it's just a bunch of character interaction . massive monster I'm looking at you with super wide eyes . You want the characters to Exchange Dialogue so fucking bad I know you do come on give it to us

Made it home from work with a little time to spare so an answer it is!! (Please excuse the wonky mobile phone formatting, I'm too tired to boot up the PC now.)

1 Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as ideas strike?

I've got multiple notebooks which are fed with ideas before I put down the first word. Usually the process is this: Spotify recommends some music to me, or I accidentally let an album play that I hadn't heard in its entirety before, and a song jumps out at me and just plants a few vague pictures, sometimes a line or two in my head. I write them down, then expand on them over time, and only write the first word when the notebook (usually) contains a rough structure, the first and last sentences as well as a title. So yeah. In the beginning, there was music, and a bunch of question marks on a piece of paper.

2 Where do you get your fic ideas?

I listen to the wrong song at an unfortunate time and end up being cursed with a picture or feeling that wants to be put into words.

19 Do you enjoy creating OCs or do you prefer to stick solely to canon characters?

Well.... technically I hate creating OCs because NAMES and STORIES but they tend to create themselves. The canon characters move through a populated world, and since I quickly feel overwhelmed (but also restricted) when juggling too many canon characters I end up filling the spaces with OCs. Transposition's Utaru OCs just spawned themselves because I liked the idea of Ikrie having social contacts outside of Aloy and her friends; and I guess the same goes for all the (relatively) newly created Banuk that are still slumbering in the notes for a future project. (The Ikrie-Mailen friendship exploration with which I like to entertain myself has so far yielded the highest number of OCs: we've got Siktuk, the shaman of Ikrie and Mailen's old werak, who kind of took little Ikrie under his wing but never quite managed to put her on the shaman's path; Urmak, who's only designation so far is "bully"; Naunai, a White Teeth aspirant who is there to talk shit about Mailen and fight Ikrie; Yakili, also known as "The Owl", a legendary huntress who is said to have had a deep connection to the Blue Light; and Arkai, a young painter Ikrie has a crush on. I'm probably forgetting someone but they likely won't have a name yet. Lou, I'm already dreading the Suffering™.)

OCs also provide an opportunity to explore new perspectives (Bare His Heart's POV character, Rabbit, merely exists because I wanted to write about my Inquisitor from an outside view, and everything else continued from there), as well as expand on headcanons I have piled up about the world and in Horizon's case, the tribes themselves. Which I enjoy a lot! ....so I guess I do like creating OCs. Just not naming them. (Although Rabbit's proper name, Daron Amiot, is born from an ongoing joke I had with a friend during our studies--"hey, this drug sounds like a fantasy name!"--in this case, Amiodaron.)

So Dr Julien makes Zane and then sends him off to Ninjago City to live life as a normal teenager. But he gets lonely and makes Echo. Anyways eventually Zane asks his dad to come to the city to live with him, and Echo gets left behind 👍 and yaknow angst angst angst etc but eventually echo decides to travel to Ninjago City to see his family (he was expecting Dr Julien to come get him but NOPE)

So yeah echo gets really beat up on the journey to the city, like falling apart at the joints beat up. When he finds Dr Julien and Zane they are having a wonderful time and being happy and echo is just an onlooker who never really belonged, who was only made to replace someone angst angst angst pt2

And then he meets harumi!

Anyways that was a lot of sadness and plot here have some silly things his helmet can do

What are your thoughts on Budgett’s frogs

I have no idea why they are called Budgett's frogs (Lepidobatrachus laevis). They should be called 'smooth scaly frogs', which is the Latin translation of the name (even though Frank and Ramus [1995] called the genus 'Paraguay Horned Frogs' for some reason). They were described by John Samuel Budgett in 1899, and for some reason the common name refers to him, even though he also described another species, Lepidobatrachus asper (translates as 'rough scaly frog', which makes *total sense*, but for some reason the common name is 'Paraguay Horned Frog', which…doesn't make any sense, given that that is also the common name for the whole genus).

Other than this confusing aspect, they're great frogs. Comical of appearance, loud of voice, Wednesday of week, bulgy of eye—what's not to like‽

All followers were designed based off of the actaul follower forms in game. Characters in order:

Bremar 🦊 (He/Him): Boy that often gets peer pressured into doing dangerous or scary things by his friends/bullies. Good heart, not a lot of spine yet.

Finor 🐰 (She/They): Elderly follower.  A devoted follower, but much too in the habit of behaving like an overbearing grandmother to those who aren’t even her kits. Comes from bearing so many in life before losing them to heretics in the wilds. Lambert found her already aged out in the forest after her husband and family were slaughtered, and she has been caring for others ever since her rescue. Stern and not a big fan of PDA, but good heart.

Cow Nurse 🐄 (No Name yet, She/Her): A nurse that works in the healing bay; takes care of the injured and sick while the lamb is gone. Stern and easily frustrated but it comes from a place of concern.

The Shrew and The Otter (No names yet) 🐁🦦 (Both She/Her): Lovers that often leave their work posts to be affectionate with each other in secret (even though everyone already knows). Eventually asks the Lamb to officiate their wedding.

Joon 😺 (Any/They/Them) (Otherwise known as 'the yellow cat' from that one COTL short): The best farmer the cult has, wasn't born until long after the bishop's defeats, and is a part of the generation that is blissfully unaware of Bishops prior tyranny. Bright but a little nervous at times, the Lamb asks them to watch over a certain 'new arrival' as their own hands are full, and Joon becomes the unaware caretaker for a certain God of Chaos.

Paazi 🐸 and her parents🦅🦇: (She/Her for Paazi, Unnamed: Eagle is He/Him, Bat is They/Them): Paazi is a orphan rescue from Anura found as young as a tadpole, later adopted by this older couple. She is the frog that fell from the cliffside and was later saved by Narinder, in which gains him her parent's appreciation.

Grekimar 🐷 (He/Him): A lumber worker who was exiled from his village in Anura, and taken in by the cult as 'all past sins are forgiven here'. Very critical of Narinder's presence, and is one spit away from dissension

Jayen 🐻 (He/Him): One of the two followers Narinder killed during his dramatic arrival to the cult grounds when Jayen was just trying to protect his leader, later resurrected by Narinder and Lambert in Chapter 2. Conflicted about Narinder's presence: grateful to be resurrected (Lamb told Jayen that Narinder helped) but still traumatized from the murder. Feels tingly in his hand and arm often. Sweet but nervous.

Tyren 🐶 (He/Him): One of the stone miners. Rescued from Darkwood. The very 'golden lab retriever' personality makes him one of the more friendlier types; this dog has a big crush on the Lamb that goes past prophet idolization.

it also gets weirder when you think about whether or not the sozo shroom split opened to spore or not because.. the skull mushroom obviously didn't. its evidently, still in perfect form. unsplit. and its host is very much Dead.

also sozo's mushroom has gills? there? where you'd expect the spores to come from. so either the gills are vestigial or. ? and for the mushroomos, i mean. they drop menticide when killed. and follower sozo, Really. likes to eat them. so im pretty sure them being menticide in some way or form being suggested here as i think you also noted before. which makes me wonder. because if they die, and they drop menticide. what stops it from just being more regular menticide. we know that if we just let it be menticide, it grows up to be menticide. so does a condition need to be met. ...like does there need to be another factor involved to make a mushroomo besides just mushroomos? because why else do they drop menticide. hmm spore sample the mushroomo? (i dont think they'd like that very much.)

i cut out so much of this because it was way too much for a single ask. i might need to put some thoughts about sozo in particular in another. yeah i think im gonna mc-lose it over speculating the reproductive process of fictional fungi from a game. yes, this is how i spend my time.

and seeing as Sozo has a head shroom at all you would expect that the giant one HAS spored already ..... to produce more like it.... so at this point I have NO idea. Unless the shroom can like. Reform itself or something after sporing??? Which considering it (Sozo's version at least) can bring a whole ass Ant back to life with it if reburied, which also stitches it back together, then. I mean. i GUESS

And as for the Mushroomos I DON't knOWWWWW We get more complicated the further we delve into this. If taking My theory from before, maybe they need a body to feed decay off from?? At least in order to become a Mushroomo? Maybe if a menticide spore lands on a carcass it can start puppetting it about?? Maybe if you plant them above a corpse it will just reach down and Take???? Compared to if you just plant it in the ground where it seemingly does just grows as a normal mushroom (presumably on decaying plant material or something)???????????????

OR it's just Anura being Anura with weird mushroom properties beyond reason. Maybe the Mushroomos exist due to the god that died there. Maybe the natural growing Menticide in Anura would become Mushroomos if allowed to sit long enough

OR OR OR It all comes back around to sexual and asexual morphs . Maybe some extreme version of it is going on here

who knows. WHO knows. The more questions we've asked and the more we've dived into this the more confused I've become!! ANd I am NOT a mycologist so I am just working with what little fungi knowledge I got out of a plant pathology course
