I swear if they bring back Eddie, a canonically dead character, I'm gonna throw hands. Especially after writing Argyle out the way they just did. Argyle was a much more important character than Eddie ever was. Anyway, justice for Eduardo Franco, who never got a phone call, which is just another level of disrespect. And justice for Argyle, who carried the California plot on his back for nothing.
It also annoys me that Eddie and Hellfire is the reason literally all of Lucas’s Hawkins friends didn’t show up for his game when he told them how much it meant to him.
Ngl I do like the headcanon that Will wouldn't like Eddie, just for the angst, u know??
Like in s3, you can see Will trying to make a DnD campaign to bring the party together
Whereas Eddie's DnD campaign in s4 tears the party apart
I think it's obvious that Will cared more about having time with his friends over actually playing DnD, the game just ended up being the thing he thought could bring them together and the thought of DnD being something to hurt their friendship would definitely hurt Will.
I also think Will would be on Lucas' side with the whole "I don't want to get bullied" thing, even if he wouldn't be too keen on trying to hang out with popular kids. I think he would prefer to stay in the background, which is what he does for like the whole of s4, especially at the start in Lenora High, it's like he was invisible to everyone but El and that one girl who liked him.
Whilst on the other hand, Eddie is all about being proud to be a freak (and whilst Jonathan is similar, he does it in a much more subtle way). Moreover, Will's comments about how he feels 'different' and a 'mistake' as well as his efforts to blend in whilst in California make me believe that he would be incredibly insecure and self conscious about being around someone like Eddie; he obviously doesn't want to be a target.
And so therefore, I think that if Will ever got the chance to meet Eddie, he would either dislike him or try to avoid him when he could. However, in time I do think he would admire Eddie's willingness to be himself.
tbh i feel like people who think will and eddie would get along fundamentally do not understand will and are just eddie stans who cannot be objective when it comes to his character and want to shoehorn him into everything regardless if it actually works.
i, like, read steddie fics, is the thing. and i like some of them even. but the only thought that gets me through my daily perusal of the steve&robin tag on ao3 is "i hope eddie munson explodes into gore and is erased from existence and everyone forgets about him forever" on repeat
the fruity four has done detrimental harm to the stonathan community 😔 we couldve had ronanve stonathan double dates 😔😔 never forget what they took from us
FUCKING REAL. just saw a post where it's like "the fruity four living together" AND IM LIKE HUHHHHH ??? ?? THEY KNEW EDDIE FOR A COMBINED TOTAL OF LIKE AN HOUR AND A HALF ???????????? AND WHEN PEOPLEMAKE FANART OF THEM AS LIKE "The Babysitters" AND DONT INCLUDE JONATHAN???? WHO LITERALLY PARENTS WILL ?????????? AND INCLUDE EDDIE ??????????????? WHO HAS STATED HE DOESNT LIKE BABYSITTING ?????
LIKE FORGET THE STONATHAN COMMUNITY IT'S DONE DETRIMENTAL HARM TO THE JONATHAN BYERS COMMUNITY. JUSTICE FOR JONATHAN FUCKING BYERS
not to keep complaining about season four, but literally why does eddie munson exist as a character? this isn’t about joseph quinn. this isn’t about the character being overhyped. this isn’t about shipping. eddie has zero substance that couldn’t have been copy/pasted to a different characters plotline, namely: steve, jonathan, and will.
high school boy that’s seen as a freak or outsider by his peers? jonathan byers was already established as being this character for two entire seasons.
high school boy is ostracized after being seemingly involved in the murder of one of his classmates, wherein he was the last one to see her alive? also jonathan. the duffers so easily could have given him his own plot in S2 where the hollands believe he’s involved in barb’s disappearance/death because he was literally the last one to see her alive. you mean to tell me that between steve, tommy h and carol NONE of them told the cops that jonathan byers was creeping around that night? bullshit. in the original pilot draft callahan even outright calls jonathan a suspect because of the punk/metal/rock/whatever poster he has hanging up on his wall.
dustin has an older male friend? steve. commit to killing a fan favorite instead of inventing a new character to provide a budget version of the same concept.
male character whose character arc is “not running away”? they literally did this with steve in S1 but with more impact, no cheap death, and more subtlety. tommy h literally screams at steve to “run away, just like you always do” and steve almost does exactly that at the end of S1, but comes back to save nancy and jonathan, completing that brief arc.
male character has ties to music to be relevant to the “music saves people” theme of the season? jonathan and will are both right fucking there. their thing in S1 was music.
steve gets another guy his age to bond with and they slowly realize they were wrong about their previous judgements of each other? jonathan. fucking. byers. this would have been full circle after jonathan expressing his dislike of steve while monster hunting with nancy in S1.
implied shitty dad? jonathan and steve???
literally why does eddie exist? what function does he provide that other characters couldn’t do, or haven’t already done in the past? duffers stop bloating your cast with unnecessary characters challenge when
How did I just see the worst prediction ever like someone said Steve is going to die in S5 and I was like okay I see it but then they were like he's going to be killed by a possessed Eddie who will later get exorcised and it will be heartbreaking
STFUUUU
HE'S DEAD HE'S DEAD HE'S NOT COMING BACK MOVE ON I'M BEGGING
Like Eddie's cool but don't bring my bf into this
Also some people out there really go out and about as Robin and Eddie stans while hating on Steve??? Like no hate on Robin obv but Eddie was there for ONE season and died like Lucas Nancy and Steve had more development how are you out there calling him the most developed 😭
Okay sorry I like Eddie I promise I just am full of hatred sometimes
Idk I think the excess Fandomification of show developers writing strategies has really fucked up a lot of originally good shows.
I think catering to all the loudest groups in a fan base over writing a story that’s coherent and makes sense is not good writing actually. I think propping up dead supporting characters over live ones because fans liked that dead character is bad writing. I think choosing the ending of a story the writers presumably had plotted out at least somewhat based primarily on the most commonly trending characters/ships/plots is bad and lazy writing.
