star wars: retroactively adds amilyn holdo as leia’s childhood friend me: ok so now i gotta adopt her
leia and amilyn met after leia’s day of demand. they served in the apprentice legislature together and took path finding classes together while leia was preparing to climb appenza peak. they became friends, and they shared political views. amilyn was openly critical of imperial politics even when they both moved to the senate. she, just like leia, left imperial politics to devote her time to the rebellion. while leia gravitated more toward military tactics and operations, holdo became a rebellion minister, giving anti-imperial speeches and recruiting others to their cause. she did eventually become a captain in the alliance navy after taking command of the blockage runner Candor and saving the crew from imperial capture, gaining a reputation for employing unconventional maneuvers.
it was briefly believed that amilyn was on alderaan at the time of the planet’s destruction, having been visiting bail and breha just before. however, she had only just left the system when the death star arrived, and was able to reunite with the rebels on hoth. amilyn spent the next phase of the war embedded in the crime syndicates and was able to inform leia that han solo (then frozen in carbonite) had been auctioned to the hutts. throughout the rest of the war, amilyn served as both minister and commander, eventually assisting in preventing the destruction of planets during the empire’s operation cinder.
during the years of the new republic, amilyn settled on galalenta, occasionally taking part in galatic politics, but otherwise assisting in her homeworld’s recovery from imperial rule. she assisted luke skywalker when he came to gatalenta to learn about the planet’s strong jedi ties.
when leia approached amilyn about joining the resistance, she didn’t hesistate. if leia said war was coming, she trusted her oldest friend. amilyn joined the resistance as a vice admiral and was given command of the ninka. during the cold war between the new republic and the emerging first order she worked to gather intelligence to prove the first order’s danger, encountering poe dameron during these operations. after full on war broke out, holdo commandeded the bomber squadrons that attacked the super dreadnaught during the evacuation of d’qar.
resistance command decimated by first order attacks, amilyn took command of the fleeing resistance forces on their way to crait. living up to her reputation for unconventional maneuvers, she arranged the evacuation of all resistance forces before accelerating the raddus to near light speed and colliding violently with the first order’s mobile headquarters, the supremacy. her last act in service to the resistance, her sacrifice, allowed the resistance enough time to make planetfall and survive to ultimately defeat the first order.

i tried to understand holdo at first, but when i go back to that damn scene it doesn't just makes me feel all awkward and cringey because of her touching him, but also because she's being so fucking fake saying all of that "i like him" bullshit when she spent the entire movie leaving everyone in the dark about her plans and she never saw poe as an equal. they're supposed to fight on the same side but she's always trying to make him feel like his opinion (tjat happens to be right) doesn't really matters at all, and as tegan has stated before, that's not something leia would agree with. and don't get me stated on the way she treated finn and rose. she's so fucking disrespectful all the damn time. — ✨
she never saw poe as an equal yep, and visually, she’s never framed as one either. I noticed while I was skimming through TLJ one night for meta purposes, that Holdo is....alarmingly tall. In some shots, she pretty much towers over Poe, so I googled it and honestly, there is barely a difference in height between Oscar Isaac and Laura Dern IRL, which makes me think that Holdo is supposed to tower over him on purpose, yknow?
I agree on the “I like him” scene coming across as fake on Holdo’s part (this isn’t even related I’m just infodumping because I saw the opportunity), but I also REALLY FUCKING LOVE THAT SCENE because of Leia. Like, she’s watching after Poe with the softest goddamned smile on her face???? and it’s so genuine it gets me in my feels oh my gosh.
In conclusion, every time Holdo breathes, I very much just feel like Poe in TLJ: confused and very irritated.

So, according to the “Fascinating Facts” book, Poe felt a “traction” towards Holdo
I mean...I know cougars exist, but really?
Holdo does nothing but insult Poe and leave him in the dark the entire film.
Yet Ruin Johnson claims that that plus the dress Holdo wears is “flirting”.
Rey being paired with one toxic man is one thing, but Poe being paired with TWO toxic women (Zorii in Free Fall, Holdo in TLJ) is a bit much, don’t you think?
And another thing, speaking of Free Fall, I wonder if Rian reads that book, that part where Zorii’s mom slices Poe up like a ham, that Rian would ask “Um...why is that crazy sword lady flirting with her daughter’s boyfriend?”. I definitely wouldn’t put it past him.

"That one's a troublemaker. I like him," says Holdo, after showing nothing but contempt and disdain for Poe and his "troublemaking" from the moment she was introduced
Her touching him like she fucking owns him when he literally does not know (or like) her like that was the height of yaigh.

From the sinking of HMS Victoria in 1893 to the 2012 USS Porter collision, the hubris of experience and seniority can blind and isolate leaders to deadly result. Such is the cautionary tale of Vice Adm. Amilyn Holdo’s toxic leadership that brought the Resistance to a crisis.
The conflict between ex-Commander Poe Dameron and Vice Admiral Holdo is interpreted by some as a junior leader’s sexist arrogance, and an unwillingness to follow orders. But for orders and intent to be followed, orders and intent must be given and credibility maintained. Leaders fail when they do not establish expectations, communicate intent, or at minimum engage with key subordinates—like their strike group’s wing commander, airboss, bridge watch standers and intelligence shop. Vice Admiral Holdo’s communication failure forced subordinates to abandon her formal authority for loyalties higher in the hierarchy—the ship, the mission and the cause.
[...] Ultimately, the fact Leia herself was brought out of anesthesia to quell the mutiny says all one needs to know about Vice Admiral Holdo’s communication with her staff and crew—there was none, and her hold on authority had long collapsed. But the lack of communication would not be so fatal if Vice Admiral Holdo had encouraged the engagement of her subordinates. Unfortunately, this becomes her cardinal sin.
[...] Real leaders apply the people around them to their best strengths. They don’t put their subordinates in “time out” by keeping them in the dark about do-or-die operational plans. They recognize how continuous stress will affect the people around them—and seek to aim those leaders in support of operational success, not troll them to personal satisfaction. Vice Admiral Holdo and Poe are both selfless heroes, but they are respectively a horribly flawed leader and commander. Unfortunately for the fleet, Vice Admiral Holdo was unable to be the leader the Resistance needed.
tl;dr:
An actual member of the U.S. Navy, with relevant experience and knowledge of military command and expectations, says that Holdo done did a big fuck-up by not telling Poe and the rest of Leia’s crew what the fuck was going on.

Things I liked:
Depression Island™ Luke fucking with Rey using that one reed
Luke visiting his sister and then duping the fuck out of Kyle with his Force projection
the fact that Rey and Finn couldn't wait to reunite literally the entire movie!!
the FinnRey reunion hug :')
Finn's "rebel scum" line after demolishing Phasma
Rose, minus the Finn-tasering scene
Leia's coat on the salt planet
Leia using the Force to pull herself back into the ship (it was silly but. I still liked it tbh since she's NEVER been allowed to do shit with the Force in the movies even though George made it clear she was Force-sensitive)
the frog nuns
the cool visual that came from the Resistance ships scraping up clouds of red dust on the surface of the salt planet
my gal Pamich getting to be a Resistance pilot
Rey being so excited to use the Falcon's guns!!!!
Luke's explanation of the Force
Ugly nonsense:
Poe being weirdly reduced to an OOC shell until Holdo could "teach" him the meaning of caution and good planning by going on her suicide run????
Holdo's entire character lmao
she had no reason to exist at all beyond Rian just not wanting to use Lando, her refusing to communicate with Poe created about a million more problems than it would've otherwise, and she looked like a fucking Hunger Games extra
also she took WAY too long to save everyone at the end, what the hell was she waiting for
Finn being reduced to a literal side character and having no overall impact on the plot
his and Rose's undercover mission being COMPLETELY pointless in the end despite actually being a really good plan just because Rian wanted to wax poetic about moral ambiguity through Benicio del Toro
also like... is it just me or did Rian go way out of his way to kill off as many Resistance members as possible just because he fucking could
Snoke getting no backstory and barely impacting the story at all tbh
Luke dying?????? for no reason?????????? what the Fuck
Hux being used as goddamn comedic relief when in TFA he was crafted as an intelligent leader, a deliberate Hitler analogy to remind us that not all evil people look like superpowered mask-wearing douchebags, and an interesting foil for Kyle? lmao? I mean I'm glad Rian didn't try to make him sympathetic like he did with Kyle but it was still bad. Fascism is Not a joke Mr. Johnson
Rose needing to teach Finn, a former child soldier, how to recognize corruption and abuse????????
Benicio del Toro's entire garbage character and his "the Resistance is bad because they have weapons too" schpeel that went absolutely nowhere and served no narrative purpose whatsoever
the fuckin. alien tiddy milk scene.
Rey being forced to empathize with Kyle despite that being WILDLY OOC for her
also her CONFIDING IN HIM and then WILLINGLY going to recruit Kyle to the Light Side™ because she thinks for some reason that he's their last hope???????
the entire weird Dark Side island mirror scene which only served the purpose of looking cool and being kinda scary
THE PART WHERE KYLE L I T E R A L L Y POINTS OUT THAT REY BEING A NOBODY MAKES HER INCLUSION IN THE STORY BIZARRE AND OUT OF PLACE LMAOOO
listen if neither Rey nor Finn is a Skywalker then what's the fucking point, Rian
Leia fucking tasering Poe for trying to save the entire Resistance
Leia SLAPPING Poe
pretty much all of the humor, also the weird obsession with repeating lines which made a lot of the dialogue feel super contrived? like the "we'll be the fire" speech showing up at least 3 times and Luke delivering his "every word you just said is wrong" shutdown twice
Jessika Pava doesn't exist now I guess bc she did not show up even once
Paige being introduced just to fucking die
too much bizarre language usage such as Holdo's "godspeed" and Poe's "big-ass door." Rian have you Ever seen a Star Wars movie in your life
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but I truly have no idea where the hell the trilogy is gonna go after this. The story JJ started got fucking murdered and there's not much to continue on with lmao

Why Poe and Rose’s positions in TLJ should’ve been switched and why Finn and Poe NEEDED to be together
You know what would’ve made the whole Canto Bight sequence even better? If it had been Finn and Poe.
Why? Here’s the problem with Rose. Finn, a CHILD SOLDIER doesn’t need explaining that war and slavery are bad.  You know who needed to understand the lesson that war and slavery are bad? POE! You know who could have taught him that and had a similar falling in love storyline? FINN!
And honestly? Rose should’ve been the one who had the big confrontation with Holdo.
If you read the novel TLJ:Cobalt Squadron. You will know it ends with Rose serving on Holdo's ship the Ninka. Now imagine this. Rose just lost her sister and Holdo is withholding information that is vital to the Resistance’s survival. Rose is kept in the dark and believes this will be the end of everything and doesn’t want Paige’s sacrifice to be in vain. So Rose covers Finn and Poe’s escape to Canto Bight and works with Connix and those loyal to Poe and leads a mutiny against Holdo. Remember. Holdo didn’t just leave Poe in the dark, she left THE ENTIRE RESISTANCE in the dark.  So Rose would lead the mutiny and Leia would awaken to stop her, only Leia would not stun her. Leia would talk Rose down, ya know, like Leia would actually do.
Imagine this. Instead of Canto Bight, we see Finn and Poe going to First Order labor camp to free the Master Codebreaker. On the journey, we see Finn telling Poe about his upbringing. About vivid memories of someone dying to keep him safe and being taken by The First Order.  We see Finn and Poe differ for their philosophies. Finn sees The First Order as monsters, but believes there is a chance that there could be more Stormtroopers like him to leave. Poe sees Stormtroopers all the same, but recognizes that Finn was the only one brave enough to say no.
So Finn witnesses more children being taken by The First Order. Poe’s eyes are on freeing The Master Codebreaker and getting out, but sees an opening to destroying the entire camp while saving the Codebreaker. Finn refuses to let anymore children be taken to be made Stormtroopers and won’t allow Poe to kill the kids in the camp.  So Finn and Poe clash, Finn about saving the kids and suggesting not all Stormtroopers are the same and have the capability to leave, Poe believing all Stormtroopers are cogs in the machine and saving The Resistance is more important than saving a small group of kids and we finally get to see Finn confront Poe about killing his friend Slip. “Do you know why I finally had enough and left? The only friend I had in the Stormtrooper corps was killed on Jakku. Do you know who killed him? You did Poe. He marked me with his blood and then I realized...we’re firing on innocent civilians. We never had a choice. Everyone of us could run from The FIrst Order or even fight, but you don’t see it that way. It’s kill or be killed. This is why I wanted to run away, this isn’t my war, this war TOOK EVERYTHING from me” Poe feels remorse and is taken aback,  until Poe sees that everyone in the camp....they’re all children. He sees the children being forced to become Stormtroopers and The Master Codebreaker...is nonother than Lando Calrissian.
And finally Poe goes “okay new plan buddy, we’re gonna rescue everyone here and burn the place to the ground”
Having Finn and Poe being the ones on adventures gives us more depth to their relationship
We have Finn opening Poe’s eyes to the true atrocities of The First Order
Poe at first is stuck in his ways, but realize there is something more important than blowing up the bad guys
Finn’s character and past isn’t ignored and we don’t have someone talking down to him on why war and slavery are bad
Finn gets to confront Poe about Slip
This would prove Rian was wrong. There was potential to send Finn and Poe on an adventure that could challenge their relationship and help them grow as characters
While we still have a tense dynamic, we have a relationship that is based on love and understanding instead of constant bickering and tazing
We have gay representation in Star Wars
As for why Lando? Let’s look at Maz’s description for the Master Codebreaker "He's a master codebreaker, an ace pilot, a poet with a blaster." That sure does sound like fucking Lando to me. It still baffles me that they gave us a casino planet in TLJ but then chose to not include Lando in that setting although he was introduced as a gambler back in TESB. Lando informs them both that Lando got a tip that The First Order could track through hyperspace and was on the way to help The Resistance, but they captured him. And after saving the kids and taking them to safety, Finn, Poe and Lando are on their way to disabled the hyperspace tracker. We also get to see Lando and FInn both grieve for Han. So yes, Lando would be able to disable the Hyperspace tracker, but Phasma would catch them on their way to the escape pods. And Phasma’s death would be the deleted death scene and be the starting point for the Stormtrooper rebellion.
It would be Poe who would be the one trying to sacrifice himself. Poe has spent the entire film watching others die and give their lives and he’s never backed down and he’s learned that what this war has wrought on the galaxy.  But Finn saves him. I don’t think Finn would have the same speech. Maybe Finn could say this. "It isn't worth winning, if we lose ourselves in hate and can't save who we love." And then Finn kisses Poe.
It's not worth fighting if Poe is going to die because Finn no longer cares the most about running away with Rey, Finn has fallen in love with Poe. This piece of knowledge gives an entirely different context to the scene, especially when you realize the dialogue was just poorly written to convey the intended message, "this war isn't worth winning without you" and ironically this theme is extremely prevalent when it comes to war. Most people aren't fighting for an ambiguous entity like The Republic or The Resistance, they're fighting for someone special. Han wasn't there for The Rebellion, he was there for Luke and Leia. Look at any war movie or talk to real-life soldiers, they've got picture of their wives, girlfriends or children that they carry with them, most of them are not fighting for their respective nation or what they believe in, but for who they love.

I still can’t believe they decided to make Lando Calrissian OLDER THAN ANAKIN SKYWALKER because BDW is older than the rest of the ot cast but they cast a woman over ten years younger Carrie Fisher to play a woman the same age (if not older than her)

Thanks to Michael I am now thinking about high fashion and how any number of bizarre feminine runway outfits could have made Holdo stand out among the resistance while also being appropriate “battle garb” like... Padme knew when to jazz it up with senate high fashion, and when something more practical was necessary. I’m pretty sure Amilyn would have understood that too if she’d been written by anyone with a shred more competence.

OneMoreDraft: Fixing Poe’s Story in The Last Jedi.
This is a new series of articles and videos following a creative writing excercise with one central idea: how could divisive, disappointing, or frustrating films be reworked to overcome their falws with “one more draft?”
Unlike with a “Page 1 Rewrite,” the goal here is to preserve the overall strengths and objectives of the original creator, even if I disagree with them. All I want to do is refine, polish, finesse, or in some cases, cut out issues in a film’s script.
So, we’re starting with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, written and directed by Rian Johnson. The first video reviews the general strengths and weaknesses of the film, as well as the first OneMoreDraft take on a character’s arc, with that of Poe Dameron.
youtube
In summary, the strengths and weaknesses of the film break down like this:
+ Great Cast of Actors
+ Strong Directing Skills from Rian Johnson
+ Ambition (at times...)
- The Sequel Trilogy leads, Rey and Finn, are pushe out of center-stage and weakly written, losing screentime and focus
- Characterization for most of the cast is in desperate need of help!
- There are some accidentally racist and sexist elements to the film, even as it tries to reject them, leading to some bad writing.
So, part one of the series can be summarized like this:
To fix Poe but keep Johnson’s goals, simply cut out most of his story and scenes, and truncate the entire arc around the first battle, splitting off Holdo into new territory.
Look, I love Oscar Isaac. His charisma and capability made Poe go from an expendable character to a major supporting feature in TFA. And I get *what* Johnson is trying to illustrate with his stroy, even if I don’t think he’s the best character for it and that he could be better used in some other way. Likewise, I see the intention behind Holdo... but I can also see how the film accidentally ends up making her seem massively incompetnt when he rpurpose is supoosed to be as a successful leader for a feminst message.
And ultimately, here’s the cold hard truth: the script can’t afford to spend time dragging out a suporting character’s arc in a story as packed as this, especially when the script is reduced to convulsions to try and make itself work, whether it’s in downplaying the human cost of Poe and Holdo’s mistakes, writing Holdo schizophrenically to maintain the surprise at the end, or simply having no logic to its central premise of the Space Chase and the ending wth the Hyperspace Ram.
Here’s how you fix that:
- Center most of the arc for Poe and his confornation with Holdo to the battle against the Dreadnaught: She has him thrown in the brig for getting her bombers killed while disobeying a direct order from Leia, chewing him out and getting his lesson done here in a quick and professional manner.
- Have Poe emerge from the brig more circumspect and respectful when released by Holdo later, perhaps even recognizing that command is a to way street from Holdo’s example.
- The Space Chase takes place within mutliple Hyperspace jumps: visually exciting vistas and increasing desperation as the fuel runs out with each jump replaces the nonsensical tactics and stupidity of the film’s version.
-Holdo shown to be a practical commander: she’s the one who sent Finn and Rose on their mission, and is trying to disperse segments of the Resistance fleet throughout the Chase. There is no schizophrenic writing on her, and no empty conflict with Poe.
-Holdo’s Hyperspace Ram occurs because of her taking adavantage of something Rose has done to the Supremacy: instea of breaking Star Wars’ rules on space combat and beg the question why she wasn’t doing this earlier, Holdo is joining her efforts with Rose to cause this damage.
Overall, Poe’s plotline ends up being the most superflous in terms of  time wasted for the audience in TLJ. Cleaning it up as I have above should cut down on wasted time, while still accomplishing the film’s goals of deconstrcuting the hot-shot pilot and sending a feminist message.

I haven’t read the novalization. What does she say about Leia?
“The smaller ships will run out of fuel first,” Holdo said. “We need to begin evacuating their crews to the flagship. Staring with the medical frigate.”
Poe surveyed the bridge. Connix wasn’t the only one who had her doubts. He saw rigid backs, and eyes fixed on monitors. It was a commander’s job to sense that, to read her bridge and her people. Holdo either couldn’t or wouldn’t.
And it made Poe angry. Leia had built the Resistance, despite the New Republic’s apathy and First Order sabotage and a chronic lack of credits, equipment, and personnel. And now Holdo—someone Leia had trusted—seemed determined to undo all her work.
“So we abandon the Anodyne,” Poe said. “What changes after that, Admiral? What happens when there are no ships left to abandon?”
Holdo fixed Poe with her gaze.
“You want a daring plan,” she said. “Dashing hero, derring-do, single-handed day-saving. That’s what you want?”
“I just want to know the plan,” Poe said helplessly. “I think we all do.”
“And at the appropriate time, you will,” Holdo said. “But just so we’re clear: There will be no idiot heroics, daring plans, or showy bombing runs on my watch.”
Poe’s frustrations boiled over. “You’re going to destroy everything Leia has built.”
“Captain Dameron. If you’re here to serve a princess, I’ll assign you to bedpan duty,” Holdo replied. “If you’re here to serve the Resistance, follow my orders. Somebody has to save this fleet from its heroes.”
And with that she turned back to her monitor, dismissing him. Poe, stunned, looked around the auxiliary bridge and found no other officer would meet his gaze.
(from chapter 14 of the novelization)

Say what you want about Holdo...
But at least she had a legit reason for not telling anyone her plan. In the Leia, Princess of Alderaan novel, Leia told her boyfriend her secret plans for the Rebellion and that boyfriend almost turned them in to the Empire and got himself killed and almost got everyone else killed. She didn’t want the same thing to happen on the Raddus.
Now...what’s Dumbledore’s excuse for keeping secrets? He wasn’t protecting anyone he truly cares about. Lives weren’t at risk.

Yet more ways Holdo was an awful leader
Here are snippets from the TLJ novelization discussing Rose’s development of the baffler, a device that hides energy signatures to make ships harder to detect, and its role in Holdo’s plan with the transports.
The novelization follows up from Cobalt Squadron by Elizabeth Wein, the book that goes into much more detail about Rose and Paige’s time with the titular bomber squadron and how Rose used the baffler in action. In Rose’s last conversation with Paige, it is revealed that Rose has been tapped to help other mechanics adapt the technology she built so it can be deployed across the Resistance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the reason Rose and Paige were separated and why Rose, who was previously the flight engineer on the bomber Cobalt Hammer, was not on board with Paige when it was destroyed in the dreadnought run. Actually I’m not sure why Rose couldn’t still board Cobalt Hammer. She wasn’t replaced as Hammer’s flight engineer as far as I can tell. Did they not need a flight engineer for the bombing run?
Tumblr media
I’m calling bullshit on Rose no longer being needed on the Ninka after the techs learned from her. If Rose was not needed on Hammer anyway, why couldn’t she stay on Ninka to help adapt the technology? In Cobalt Squadron Rose and the entire team of bomber flight engineers were forever sweating to get the baffler, a very new and finicky technology, working right under intensive conditions. The bugs were getting ironed out during Cobalt Squadron, but it doesn’t seem plausible that everything was ready to go within a few hours on adapting this new tech outside its original setting. New and untried tech doesn’t... work like that. There’s always something to trip you up.
So instead of staying on to help the deployment of the technology she built, Rose is transferred back to the Raddus where she is just in time to witness her sister’s death and where she has so little to do that she’s relegated to “doing droidwork.”
Tumblr media
Let me get this straight, they’re so busy that they didn’t have a job for an experienced mechanic? How does that even make sense? And then, of course, there’s the setup for Rose and Finn’s meet-electrocute where they insult her skills still farther by handing her a taser and the order to stun deserters.
Tumblr media
Remember, this order HAS to have come from Holdo or someone under her command because the Raddus’s senior officers are dead, Leia is in a coma, and Holdo has taken over.
To summarize so far: Holdo requested Rose come aboard the Ninka to teach her techs the baffler technology, then decides that a few hours in hyperspace are more than enough to figure out and adapt this new tech and its creator is no longer necessary. Holdo then takes command of the Raddus but doesn’t do shit to make use of Rose again because evidently there’s no point in making sure the baffler technology runs perfectly, guided by the person who made it.
I mean, why would Holdo want Rose to supervise the technology she built? It’s not like Holdo was using the baffler for any vital plan that was central to saving the Resistance or anything-
Tumblr media
OH FOR FUCK’S SAKE. Holdo used Rose’s baffler tech for the shuttles that the entire surviving Resistance’s LIVES depended on. And yet the inventor of that technology, who was on THAT VERY SHIP, was never called to help fine-tune the technology and didn’t even KNOW of the plan, so that she inadvertently worked at cross-purposes with it.
WHY would Holdo not tap Rose to make sure the bafflers would work correctly? Rose knew that tech inside out. She had supervised and taught engineers to deploy the baffler technology. She got anxiety from the possibility that the tech might not work correctly and cost lives, and worked like hell to make sure it worked. You leave someone like that out of your plan? Leaving this precious resource untapped just so you can keep your cards close to your chest for no fucking reason?
Holdo stans have defended her refusal to tell Poe or anyone about the plan, saying she didn’t owe anyone an explanation. Sure seems like shitty leadership, but let’s say for the sake of argument that she didn’t have to tell them. What’s the reason for leaving out Rose, the technician who invented the technology the whole plan depended on? Does this look like the actions of a leader who cares about maximizing the chances of success and giving everyone the best chance at survival?
No, Holdo shows a consistent pattern of keeping secrets to the detriment of the mission, sowing fear and distrust among her crew, not even caring enough to tap the right person to make sure the crucial piece of technology for her plan is foolproof. Again, the baffler was a new technology that had been adapted out of its original setting within a day ago. The person who knew it better than anyone was right on board the ship Holdo commanded, but Holdo didn’t give a shit.
Holdo should have been all over Rose’s ass to make sure nothing could go wrong with the bafflers. She should have been inspiring and reassuring her crew by letting them know exactly what she was going to do and putting all their efforts behind it, giving them hope that they would survive and light the spark of resistance across the galaxy. Instead she turned people against her by demanding they take her on faith alone, and set adrift without a sense of purpose or control some of her best people ended up unknowingly sabotaging her plan.
People whose names she didn’t even know, by the way.
Tumblr media
Rose’s history with the baffler and Holdo is yet more confirmation that Holdo didn’t actually care about the mission. She cared about gaining a sense of power by disempowering people in her command, and she cared about her false sheen of modesty. This is terrible leadership on every level, and the narrative of TLJ is disingenuous in demanding that we see her as a heroic figure who was right about everything.
