I really do love Raphael!Crowley though bc like hear me out. Season 1 you have Adam, the antichrist, rejecting all the power in the world bc he prefers to just be Adam, with the Them and his family and his small town. He was born to be Special but chooses to be ordinary.

Now, season 3, we have Aziraphale, a principality, born to be another soldier of heaven, one who had an important job once sure but in the end just another cog in the angelic machine. Offered the chance to be Special, and wants it so desperately bc he thinks that having that power will grant him the freedom to live the way he wants.

Now picture Crowley as the foil, starting life as an Archangel, The Archangel in some stories, the healer, the star maker. Special. Cast away, had his Specialness forcibly ripped from him. Adam grew into his powers, got a taste and decided against it. Raphael had only ever known life with his powers, it's not until he asks a few too many questions that they're taken away and he has to learn to survive. Given the chance to have it back but he refuses, bc he's made more of a life for himself, been more himself, since becoming an "ordinary" demon.

So, these are mainly my thoughts on why it's just as plausible that Elucien's book might be next. I just really want to get these thoughts out so that I can finally let them go. This is just me noticing patterns and wanting to speak up for Elain.

If we go by the number of bonus chapters based on perspectives, Azriel has two of them. However, if we focus on both the bonus chapters in ACOSF only, Elain was the main focus.

What many people misunderstand about Elain is that she is a fawner, and because she fawns, it's easy to miss how much she's been through, given how well she internalizes things.

We know where Azriel is mentally right now, but Elain's perspective has consistently been narrated by other people. This aligns with SJM's strategy to keep Elain and Lucien as muted as possible, surprising readers with the baggage they carry when we get to their perspective.

Because that's what fawners do, and that's how fawners break.

Feyre's bonus chapter gives us an idea of where Elain is and how she's being coddled by the Inner Circle, something Rhys does not agree with.

Azriel's bonus chapter gives us an idea of where Elain and Lucien stand and, more importantly, where Lucien is – something of great importance to Rhys. Lucien is not only brought up in both bonus chapters but is directly tied to Elain. Feyre comments that she wouldn't have to pull thorns from Elain's hands if she wore Lucien's present, and Rhys points out that if Lucien finds out Az is pursuing her, he'll defend the bond as he sees fit.

If Elain and Azriel are considered equal in terms of how each side of the fandom perceives their suffering, we can analyze their respective partners. Lucien's whereabouts are known, and he holds a crucial position in the Night Court. The strength of his bond scent is evident, and he can now tolerate being in the same room with Elain.

Notably, Lucien seems comfortable around the Inner Circle, evidenced by his reactions to Cassian's threat and engaging in arguments with Rhys over sports. Meanwhile, Elain is making efforts to reintegrate into society and has moved on from Graysen.

We only see that something about Gwyn is interesting to Azriel, and we see that Gwyn treats Azriel differently.

This, to me, reads that it's about time for Elucien to face their bond.

We won't get any of their outbursts in a bonus chapter or in someone else's book because Nesta was at a low point in ACOSAF, and she sank even lower in her own book.

Personally, Azriel's feelings of loneliness and bitterness due to two of his brothers being mated are nothing compared to Elain becoming estranged from her closest sister, expressing a desire to reacquaint herself with her powers only to be set up as a backup.

This tells me that she does not have her powers because she did not see Azriel rejecting her, if confusion, alongside hurt, marred her eyes when he did. She was sobbing, squeezing Feyre’s hand, pleading with her to hold on, not knowing that Nesta will end up saving her.

Elain has the gift of seeing the future, and she didn't see these things coming.

Elain has experienced four losses and was on the brink of facing another: the loss of her engagement, the loss of her humanity, the loss of her father, the loss of her relationship with Nesta, and almost losing Feyre during her labor.

Elain no longer has the same support system she used to, now that Nesta has the Valkyries and her own found family, and Feyre has a baby. Both of them are happily mated, while she is still stuck on whatever hesitation she has for accepting her bond, especially now that Azriel has effectively removed himself from that equation.

You can argue that yes, Azriel is in a similar position since her sisters are mated to his brothers, but Elain has always depended on both of her sisters taking care of her, while Azriel has been described as going off and doing his own thing. Elain’s world has been turned upside down, while Azriel’s merely got bigger.

Elain's world is a bubble and that bubble is fixing to burst.

Azriel can afford to have another bond acceptance to bring him lower. Do I think that Azriel is obsessed with Lucien and Elain's bond? No. But I do believe that he ties his worth to a mating bond. Among his brothers, he is the one who wants it the most and has been actively waiting for it the longest.

If Azriel had the preconceived notion that Elain and Lucien would not end up together because Elain showed no interest in him for them to be happily mated, wouldn't that be one more instance that he believes he isn't worthy of a mating bond?

Lucien, the male Azriel said is undeserving of his mate, has that mate accept the bond despite two years of little contact, proving to Az that it never mattered how Mor feels about him. No matter what he did and didn't do, it would have snapped regardless.

We will hopefully see big Gwynriel crumbs in CC3 of them getting closer, and then we will see something significant happen to Gwynriel that shifts their dynamic in Elucien's book.

Because it will follow the same pattern of the other mating bonds.

Nessian had its dynamics established in ACOMAF bonus chapter, we see big crumbs in ACOWAR, we see a shift in ACOSAF for them to have a book with ACOSF.

Elucien had its dynamics established in ACOWAR, crumbs in ACOSAF with Mor's statement of both of them not being ready, a shift in ACOSF with Lucien and Elain avoiding-not-avoiding each other, for them to now be ready to deal with their bond next.

The same can somewhat be applied to Feysand and Elriel:

Feysand had its dynamics established in ACOTAR, we see crumbs for the majority in ACOMAF, we see a shift in dynamics in ACOWAR to see them living their best domesticated life in ACOSAF.

Elriel had its dynamics established in ACOMAF, crumbs in ACOWAR, shift in ACOSAF but ultimately, to see that they are not going to work in ACOSF.

And there have been multiverse ideas that followed a similar pattern.

Feyre realizing the bone carver is her child in ACOWAR, Feyre decided she wanted to get pregnant in ACOSAF to have Aelin see Rhys with a pregnant Feyre in KoA, HoEaB release to see Feyre pregnant in ACOSF.

Aelin falling through different worlds in KoA, HoEaB confirmation of gates as seen in KoA, crumbs of a multiverse in ACOSF for its confirmation in HoSaB.

With that said, being at rock bottom isn't necessarily a good indicator. Chaol was paralyzed at the end of QoS, yet EoS was released with Aelin excited to see Terrasen again, and Dorian taking over the throne. EoS ended with a cliffhanger that people are still asking if they can skip ToD.

I'm not arguing that I believe Elain's book is next. Like I said, it all goes back to what happens now that ACOTAR has been introduced to CC and how those events will impact ACOTAR moving forward.

SJM could very well decide to use Gwynriel's book next to bridge ACOTAR to the overarching Maasverse plot now that it's been established in HoFaS or she could decide to go with Elucien's book because they would need to tie up the more local plotlines before Gwynriel deals with whatever tied ACOTAR to CC.

I mean, I still believe that Vassa will move from being Lucien's problem to Azriel's problem. Koschei is going to be the big bad at the end of the series no matter which couple is tackling him.

Plus, I ship both, so no matter what, I'm still winning.

Yet, you’re quite conveniently forgetting this quote (which is also from Feyre’s POV) about Amren - arguably the character who is the LEAST similar to the humans:

“Amren laughed again, her dark hair plastered with sand and seaweed. For a moment, she even looked human.”

You then make the comparison to Lucien, as Lucien is fully High Fae. You are literally suggesting that Lucien is ‘more Fae’ than Azriel, which is EXACTLY the kind of thinking that Tarquin, and other people in Prythian, have been trying to eradicate in the name of equality. So yes, this is “faerie racism;” the concept of which is already established in canon. This has nothing to do with real-life racism (hence why I used the term “faerie racism” in the first place). So no, I don’t need to “grow the fuck up” just because you failed to understand an incredibly simple concept.

And all of this, somehow, is evidence that elucien is endgame…? Or, as you said yourself, that Elain only wants to “hook up with Az because he might remind her of how humans look.” I don’t know about you, but if I wanted to “hook up” with a human, I’m not sure I’d go for the towering, muscular man with BAT WINGS, who has literal SENTIENT SHADOWS crawling all over him at all times. Certainly not in comparison to Lucien, who is not only best friends with two HUMAN rulers, but literally LIVES IN THE HUMAN LANDS.

Are you saying that pointed ears, long red hair that GLOWS with his temper, a MAGICAL eye and a wicked scar down HIS FACE, ALONG with a MAGICAL fae mating bond that causes Lucien to react in ways he typically doesn't DON'T cause Elain to feel Lucien represents all things FAE? That everything combined couldn't be a valid reason for a human who once feared the Fae to have hesitation over as she adjusts to this new body and world she's in?

You keep drawing it back to the ears and the fact that Az looks human without his shadows (which in his own words tend to disappear around Elain) but I am addressing it as a full picture.

Stop coming at me with pieces of my own argument and conveniently leaving out the rest.

Also I'll never understand how E/riels come at Elucien's with arguments while ignoring what is actually said about the characters. You don't get to pretend Az's shadows disappearing around Elain (which he confirms they often do) doesn't happen just because you don't like the implications of that and because you think it furthers your argument that his shadows are a very fae thing. It doesn't matter how Fae a thing it is, they disappear around her enough that Az remarks on it so not a great point for you to use.

This is information the AUTHOR put in her book:

Yet in the novella Az, "wings tucked back", holding a "glass of wine", his voice "soft as night", takes the dish from her hand. Az whose SHADOWS DISAPPEAR AROUND ELAIN and has rounded ears like a human, the lack of shadows making him look human-like.

You don't think that entire presentation seems very human-like to Elain especially after she JUST said she didn't want a male? She has no freaky pull to Az since they are not mates. He's not acting animalistic around her like mated males can at times act. He's standing there in a suit, wings tucked back, rounded ears, holding a glass of wine, so very proper with all the manners she grew up with in society (so at odds from the Az we've gotten glimpses of elsewhere and that Elain has never witnessed, starting fights in High Lords meetings, disrespecting Feyre's orders, holding a bloody TT as he tortures people).

You really don't think it's possible that she's fixated on the illusion of Az? That he reminds her of what it is she lost? After she JUST TOLD US SHE DIDN'T WANT A MALE????

I am not personally saying Lucien looks more Fae than Az, I am using what information was provided to me in the book through Feyre which is through the author herself. I am saying that to the character of Elain, Lucien might represent everything Fae which could include but is not limited to the pointed ears (which she ALSO has and have you noticed, she's started wearing her hair half up and down since being made fae? Hmmm....I wonder if she's trying to hide her own ears) which like it or not, is something a character that grew up human might look at and associate with the fae. Even in the real world, I'm almost positive that if someone hadn't read the series but they saw someone in cosplay with pointed ears, they'd think "fae or elf." I'm not so positive that someone who hadn't read the series would see a cosplay of someone dressed up in black bat wings (without pointed ears) and think the same. Across literature, pointed ears usually are a fae feature. We as ACOTAR readers know that fae can also have rounded ears however, it seems the humans weren't as informed considering that when Feyre met Cassian for the first time she was confused as to what being Illyrian meant in terms of High Fae and she notes that Cassian's ears were like her own had once been.

I am saying if there are things Elain is still hung up on that prevents her from letting go of her humanity in full (as Nesta did when she refused to call Cassian her mate until later when Briallyn commented that Nesta was so "thoroughly fae now") then there is a chance that to HER, Lucien might look more what the "stereotypical" idea of a fae male might look like and that could be a small part of what contributes to her emotions and hesitation.

Stop acting like it's me who feels this way instead of recognizing that I'm trying to understand what might be going through Elain (the fictional characters) mind.

And stop acting like Elain struggling to completely let go of the idea of being with a human man is at all related to the class issues that exist in the political Fae world.

Az is not less fae than Lucien but I'm not wrong for echoing the thoughts of Feyre that he has been noted as looking human-like at times where Lucien has never been noted as such. In fact, Lucien has been noted as being a "son of the forest", "crafted from it". Things that look like they belong in nature, that are part of nature, are a far cry from the civility and the men that Elain grew up around.

I have never thought Az is less Fae than Lucien. In fact, my point has always been that Az acts a certain way around Elain that is very different from how he normally acts and that's problematic because he's presenting as gentle and proper around her when he's anything but. His shadows hide around her (his own words) and that's a problem to me because he tells us they are a part of him. He tells us she has no idea the things he's done and again, that's a problem to me because HE is the one who admits to hiding parts of himself from her. Az is not less fae-like than Lucien, he's probably more Fae-like than Lucien as the real Az tends to be a feral male who doesn't seem to have impulse control (and instead has animalistic fae behaviors). But he is putting on a decidedly human-like act (while looking more human-like at times) for Elain who currently doesn't want a MALE and as a result, that's something she's gravitating towards because Lucien (as her mate which is an extremely fae thing to have) is not something she's ready to embrace and will never be ready to consider so long as she's still clinging to her humanity. She's no longer human but she's not ready to fully accept that. The irony is her actual mate, without the bond messing with his instincts, has more in common personality wise to humans than the real Az does but she's blinded to the true nature of each.

But there is a good chance that just as Nesta finally admitted Cassian was her mate once she was willing to part with those last scraps of her humanity, Elain might also embrace Lucien as her mate someday in a future book once she sheds the last of hers.

Could I be wrong with my interpretation? Absolutely. But there is logic there and it's pretty strange you're acting like that's not more logical than you mentioning Amren looking human when I don't even understand what point you're making. Is Amren a contender for Elain's endgame? If not then.....?

E/riels love to come onto Elucien pages personally attacking us even though all we're doing is basing our theories off of information shared to us through the other characters. Just because you base everything off the moments that only exist between Az and Elain, some of us prefer to read the entire book, the bigger picture, to draw our conclusions from. this isn't a weird question at all! yes, they do -- Azriel is Falcon to Cassian's Cap (and was briefly mentioned in part 2 of this au), and I hc that Feyre and Elain exist but they're loosely related to Nesta (maybe they're cousins instead of sisters or something). Feyre is the Pepper to Rhys' Iron Man, and idk where Lucien fits in this AU but rest assured Elain is right by his side hehe.

Nesta tilted her head as she studied the latest newcomer to Cassian's -- no, their -- apartment. Cassian insisted that the space was just as much hers as it was his no matter how many times she tried to argue with him, and her therapist had been equally as insistent that Nesta refer to the space as hers, too.

"Hey, Azriel," Cassian said sheepishly from behind her. Nesta had rushed to answer the door in her haste to keep him safe from any and all threats, and he'd had to awkwardly greet this... guest from behind her. "This is Nesta."

Nesta immediately ran her eyes over Azriel, recognition flickering dimly in the back of her mind as she quickly performed a threat assessment. Male, estimated 6'3, armed with a knife holstered to his thigh underneath his running shorts. Military trained, highly effective in aerial combat. Not to be underestimated.

"I know you," Nesta replied flatly, her voice refusing to turn her statement into a question. She refused to stop shielding Cassian until she had confirmation Azriel was safe to be around, so she started rattling off information. "Code name: Falcon. Real name: Azriel Velasquez. Threat level: low to medium without wings. Employment status—”

"Woah, Nes," Cassian interrupted her gently. "Azriel's a friend. He's safe."

I'll be the judge of that, Nesta thought to herself. Repeated experience had taught her Cassian was reckless at best, had a death wish at worst, and she would not allow him to be compromised because he saw the best in people.

"It's fine, Cassian," Azriel finally spoke, his voice quiet but steady. "She can do whatever she needs to feel safe."

Nesta studied him for a few moments, meeting his hazel eyes calmly. She didn't move out of the way until she had identified at least seven ways to kill him before Cassian could intervene. "Mission parameters re-established."

"Glad to hear it," Cassian replied, relief evident in his voice. Nesta ignored the way her heart sped up at the grin he shot in her direction and chose to re-secure the perimeter by closing and locking the door behind Azriel. "You ready to get your ass kicked, Az?"

"I prefer the term workout at my own pace, but sure," Azriel responded with a snort. "We can't all keep up with supersoldiers."

"Speak for yourself," Nesta muttered, and then froze at the unauthorized words. Cassian looked utterly delighted that she'd spoken, but she'd frozen in mute horror. Her therapist would tell her that she had nothing to be afraid of by speaking out of turn, that nobody was coming to punish her for speaking before she had been spoken to, but the body remembered where the mind had been made to forget.

Nesta closed her eyes and forced herself to breathe, keeping count silently as she tried to stop the panic from sweeping her up. It didn't always work, but she had to try -- if not for herself, then at least for Cassian, who she hated to hurt even more than she already had.

"You alright, Nes?" Cassian asked softly, moving closer to her without managing to crowd her. His brows were furrowed with concern and she could tell how badly he wanted to touch her, but she was thankful that he'd remembered not to. "I can go running another time, neither of us will mind—”

"It's fine," she mumbled. She made herself look up and make eye contact with him, shoved her hands in the pockets of her stolen hoodie in an attempt to hide how badly her flesh hand was shaking.

"We'll be quick," he promised. "I'll make sure to check in, okay?"

"Okay," she agreed quietly, some of the tension bleeding out of her at the promise. She couldn't keep eyes on him every moment he left the apartment, so it helped to have proof of life in random intervals so she knew he was still breathing. "Okay."

"Thanks for letting me into your space," Azriel told her on his way out. "It means a lot."

"Bring him back in one piece, and maybe you can come back," Nesta replied before fleeing to the safety of her room.

The day was not turning out as Azriel had originally anticipated. That much, at least, he had gathered. Now today wasn't like other unanticipated, unwelcome distractions. Those were the kinds he dreaded— days where he would return to the townhouse soaked in blood he wasn't sure belonged to him.

Those days haunted him on ones like this.

Yes, today was a different kind of unexpected. Rhysand had decidedly summoned him for lunch in his office, to discuss politics and prisoners and what color he and Feyre would paint the baby's room. It went in and out of Azriel's mind. Most things did, these days. The time after the war, after spending months trying to get those goddamn Illyrians back in line, it was taking its toll on him. His shadows, which curled behind his ears like tufts of dark hair, now seemed to swallow Azriel’s face whole, clenching around his body with an armored ferocity Rhysand was accustomed to.

Maybe, Azriel told himself, that was why he called him here. To see what he was up to. How he was doing. It annoyed him, when Rhys fluttered around him like a concerned mother hen, desperate to understand his feelings and thoughts.

He doubted he deserved to be cared for like that.

And maybe, he thought with a wry snort, it was why he had sent him on such a meaningless errand. A distraction, one he merely welcomed with indifference.

"There's a book," Rhys had drawled, leaning back in the chair pushed out from his onyx desk. Behind him, the portrait of his Mate seemed to glimmer with curiosity. "In the library beneath the House of Wind. A history book, about the royal bloodline. Feyre is making a family tree, and wishes to learn more about my ancestors. If you don't mind, I'd like you to retrieve it for me."

As though Azriel had nothing better to do. Truthfully, he didn't. But still he had replied slowly, his voice tight, "Can't you get it yourself? Or send Cass?" Rhysand only barked a laugh. When it came to his brother, Azriel knew he would do anything he asked. For his brother, he would have jumped into the Sidra if he had asked. It was beyond the duty to the High Lord with which Azriel regarded Rhysand; but that didn't mean he wouldn't give him grief for such a stupid task.

"No, shadowsinger," he had purred in reply, mouth stretching into a taunting grin. "I cannot. I'm far too busy looking at paint samples with my Mate. And besides, the priestesses like you best, don't they?" Rhys barked a laugh. Azriel opened his mouth to retort, to defend the way his shadows flinched, but he set his jaw tightly. The shadowsinger gave a subtle nod, then rose from his seat. A soft brushing of knuckles against his stony mental shields had him pausing in the doorway.

You can hide it, Rhys had said. You can hide many things from us. But you can't hide from me. You need this today.

Hide it, indeed.

Azriel huffed as he flew, wings beating against the cool summer breeze that rippled across his dark head. He needed to stretch his wings, to clear his head and focus on the warmth beating down on his back. The sun, hanging lazily in the afternoon sky, illuminated the blues and reds of his wings and cast his shadow over Velaris as he made his way to the library. He told himself he had only wanted to get it over with, and that was why he was moving so quickly, darting across the sky. That he wanted to go back to the townhouse and sulk. But Mother damn him, he couldn't stop that swell in his chest as he came nearer and nearer. That swell was akin to dying a joyous and euphoric death— there was no other way Azriel could accurately describe it. His heart pounded in anticipation at what he knew lay beyond those ancient doors.

Her.

Azriel had become accustomed to Gwyneth Berdara’s strange beauty and equally strange humour during their training; had grown to like her friendly nature and competitive, passionate spirit. If anything, he admired her. He might have even feared her. That cheerful female with copper hair that shined in the light of the sun and moon, both of which seemed to love her. They had spent months, moving side-by-side, grinning at each other across the ring while trying to slash the other with a sword.

Their encounters outside of training were brief, and conversations short. He supposed he wasn't one for talking, and allowed her to lead them in a dialogue. But as time went on, Azriel found the little smiles on her rosy lips now reflected on his, and the bright laughter that filled his ears now echoed softly in his own throat. With her, he felt his emotions bob to the surface, and for once, he didn't stop them.

From the moment he'd met Gwyn, she'd held Azriel's attention with a preternatural ability, and had caught him off guard more times than he'd like to admit. The shadowsinger, spymaster, king of shadows— taken by surprise by a young priestess.

His lips turned upward at the thought of her.

Azriel landed on the balcony of the House of Wind, his wings snapping behind him as he eased into a walk. His descent down the swirling staircase to the library was a silent one. Azriel had been to this athenaeum hundreds of times, far more than he could count, but it had never gotten easier.

The pain and sorrow he felt in the priestesses' sanctuary was suffocating, at times. Not because he had felt the same anguish himself, but because he had rescued many of them from it. Because the shadowsinger had seen the horrors they'd escaped from, and faltered, unknowing of what to say or do to offer comfort.

He remembered rescuing Gwyn. Azriel was the first of the Inner Circle to arrive. He remembered dragging his blade across the throat of the Hybern general who thought he had a claim to Gwyn, who thought he was worthy of even gracing her presence. His scarred hands shook even now with fury, fury and rage towards the soldiers who had defiled her home and her body.

Azriel knew though, it was nothing compared to the pain she must have felt. He couldn't bring himself to think of it. Every inch of him now trembled with that dark rage, the joy now vanished without a trace, and he clenched his fists— the fists of a killer, he thought bitterly. Distraction was a fruitless effort. They had hurt her, and he had made them pay with their lives.

He only wished that killing them might have eased her mind, as he hoped to. It didn't. Even now, he found himself staring at the wall late at night, wondering if those mental scars were healing.

Or if they were just as ugly and unavoidable as the ones he bore on his skin.

Melancholy filled him as he walked further into the forlorn depths of the ancient library. He seemed to disappear into it, willing the shadows nearby to whisk him away into oblivion.

The hymn sung during today’s dawn service had yet to leave Gwyn's mind. It was a soft, gentle song, full of joy and sorrow and hope— the beacon she needed today. When she had woken this morning, the heaviness of her heart had weighed on her with a particular viciousness. It had been difficult to rise, to dress in her familiar blue robes and run a brush through her tangles of copper hair.

But she had done it. A small victory. And she had dragged herself to morning service, as she did every day. It had taken her many months to work up the courage to attend after arriving initially. She couldn't bring herself to fill her heart with music, with love. Not when it was so ravaged by hate. Gwyn didn't know if she deserved to feel joy like that. But when she was through with feeling sorry for herself, through with feeling such overwhelming shame, she dragged herself to that first service and never looked back.

Now, she led the songs with a fervor she hadn't felt in the 2 years since Sangravah. Now, she was bursting with life. With passion. Although the shame had never quite left her, she was happier. Lighter. Gwyn was healing, and happy to do so.

Gwyn had suggested the priestesses sing an older selection of music today, one that cried love in the rawest of forms. It was in a language long forgotten, and the words that had been lost were replaced by lyrics in the common tongue. The song carried on long after the service had ended, caressing the dark confines of her mind and coaxing her out of her stupor.

Perhaps, she thought to herself with a small smile, it was magic. To her, music was magic.

And so Gwyn carried on with her day, pushing the cart that only seemed to get heavier and heavier as the hours flew by. She nodded to priestesses that passed by, and offered small smiles to those she recognized the scents of. The library was a quiet existence, save for the occasional conversation; so she filled the silence, humming and singing and tapping her fingers as she worked.

It was that soft singing that caught Azriel's attention as he stood before Clotho, his hands resting on the desk politely. Perhaps a reminder to those watching that he too, was damaged. A silent request to be accepted into their sacred space. He had asked politely about the book Rhysand had requested, and a silent prodding about the possibility of him seeking it out. With a shallow nod, Clotho permitted it, and waved a gnarled hand of dismission. She too, seemed to perk up at that singing, but merely shrugged when Az raised a brow. He studied her for a moment, before nodding and turning away. Clotho returned to her work without another word, but a secret smile ghosted her lips.

A few priestesses had indeed watched from afar, but quickly returned to their work as he approached the endless rows of books. Level Four, Section 3A, he repeated over and over. Level Four, Section 3A. Curiously, Azriel glanced over at the group of priestesses who now spoke quietly, and offered a rare, gentle smile to the group before descending down the spiral ramp to the next level.

Still that singing seemed to follow him, echoing off the stone walls.

It was, in simplest terms, the most beautiful sound he had ever heard. His shadows harmonized with the gorgeous melody, a reverence of the Mother like no other. The song called to Azriel with an intensity that made his blood tremble, and pulled him until his feet seemed to move on their own, down and down and down into those depths of darkness and light and beauty. He picked up speed, his heartbeat erratic as his mind echoed with that damn music.

When he reached the fourth level, he turned in the direction Section 3A, looking up at a nearby sign. But when he took the first step, his shadows nipped at him, grabbing him by the sleeve and tugging him in the opposite direction. Come, they whispered. Find her.

Azriel hesitated for a breath, glancing back at the sign, then obliged. He was walking blind, betraying every battle instinct that had drilled into him. Ignoring them, he let his shadows guide him with a racing heart, until he found the source.

Mere feet away, there she stood, her straight copper hair tied back by a simple blue ribbon, the same sapphire shade as his siphons. A few stray wisps of red were tucked behind her delicately pointed ears. His shadows wanted to curl around those pretty ears, to run their dark fingers through the silky strands of her perfect hair, but he quickly tugged on their leash before they could slip away from him. Gwyn's lips moved gently, her voice vibrating with a clarity he wasn't quite sure was possible for Fae— but she wasn't entirely Fae, was she?

This damned female would surely be the end of him.

He felt his knees wobble, as her voice waltzed towards him on a star-studded breeze. Azriel had heard beautiful singing before— had been to the theatre several times with Rhysand and the Inner Circle, had tapped his foot to the sound of street performers on the cobblestone pathways of Velaris. But this was nothing like them. She was casual, examining the spines of books and then tucking them into spots on the shelves, rearranging them until she was satisfied. Her musical prowess was a stark contrast to the sight of her; Mother, just seeing her standing there was a perfect melody that made his blood sang. The words that left her lips though, were something wholly magical.

Gwyn was confident in her singing, confident enough to do so in a near silent library where all listened and admired her talent. When Gwyneth Berdara sang, the troubles of the priestesses weren't simply forgotten. Instead, they became tangible, and beautiful, and raw. They became a song, a flawless execution of emotion, a dance of mourning and a waltz of life , all at once. It was a release; a rebirth. It was an almost laughably common occurrence for females to cry tears of relief during her performances, but one that gave Gwyn a swelling sense of pride.

In her songs, there was an honesty that only Mor had ever shown; it was all swirling together like she herself was Cauldron-blessed and the Mother was pouring Gwyn's soul into the world. Time had frozen for— well, Azriel wasn't sure for how long. The faelights flickered around them, two beings lost in the eternity of the library, one seemingly unaware of the other.

If Azriel hadn't known better, he might have admitted how much his heart had calmed. How his chest had warmed, and the heavy weight he had been feeling on his shoulders had slowly but surely vanished. But he dare not say a word, and instead, savored the moment in contented silence.

His shadows, on the other hand, were perfectly content to dance and harmonize alongside her. They hugged the shadow cast at her feet, their misty forms swaying between them. Azriel clenched his fist, and swallowed. Stop it, he tried to command them. And of course, they ignored him wholly. Gwyn's song came to a close, and she hummed the tune to herself as she pushed the cart a bit further down the aisle. The shadows followed, and Azriel took a silent step forward, beckoning them. You're supposed to listen me, you know. They laughed at him in reply.

"Didn't anyone ever tell you it's rude to eavesdrop, shadowsinger?"

Azriel's heart stopped.

Gwyn had known Azriel was near the moment he had stepped foot into the library. She wasn't sure how or why, but something in her seemed to suddenly resonate— a feeling ringing inside her that she couldn't quite explain, and only seemed to grow louder and more intense.

Until it was behind her, and she swore she felt the most tender of brushes against her ear, tucking her hair back. A bit of darkness flickered in and out of the corner of her eye, and a smile formed on her lips. Gwyn welcomed his shadows, let them settle at her feet and dance to her song. She had always liked them, anyway. She had been humming throughout the day, but when she had felt that warmth in her blood, it was as though the voice of the Mother had whispered into the curve of her ear: Sing.

So she did.

Gwyn had heard Azriel's soft footsteps as they approached the rows of shelves on Level Four. It wasn't particularly hard to identify them; no other males outside of the Inner Circle were permitted to visit, and no other was as subtle about his movements as the shadowsinger was. Months of training and sparring had accustomed her to his preternatural stillness. Yes, Gwyn assured herself, she had become very familiar with him. Had deduced that it must be him. Nothing more than that.

She dare not admit that she would have felt him and his shadows even if she were blind and deaf.

So finally, Gwyn spoke. Her lips curled into a teasing smile, and she turned to face Azriel fully. And of course, there he was, standing at the end of the aisle as she had expected. What she hadn't expected however, was that his eyes would be as wide and mouth hanging open as it was. Gwyn blinked, the only indicator of surprise, before she soothed her expression into one of cool teasing. The High Lord's spymaster straightened up as well, setting his jaw tightly. He cast his gaze to the floor.

"Gwyn," was all he said in greeting.

"Azriel." Her teal eyes sparkled, and her freckles seemed to glow like stars in the faelight. "What brings you here? Surely not my singing." A soft laugh.

What he wanted to say was, Yes. It was you. You and that damn gorgeous voice. I couldn't hear anything but you. Couldn't think about anything else. Hell, I forget walking down here.

But instead, he simply answered, "Book."

A pause. Azriel's cheeks flared, and his shadows made to quickly hide his embarrassment. He coughed. "A book. For Rhysand. A— a history book. Clotho directed me to this level."

"Ah," replied Gwyn. There was no hint of judgement in her tone. At least she didn't think he was a moron. His shadows flicked towards her curiously. "I see. And what sort of history book could interest our mighty High Lord?"

Gwyn's grin was unrelenting, but Azriel was far too stiff to even look up at her. He had been caught. The shadowsinger, the fucking spymaster for the Night Court, had been caught red-handed by a young female. Cassian would have guffawed at the sight of him blushing like an idiot.

Gwyn picked up a particularly heavy book, standing on her toes to reach a higher shelf. She strained, but was determined to reach what was too high above her head. Without thinking, Azriel moved. His strides were smooth, powerful even, and he stood beside her. A comfortable distance away, he took hold of the book, and gently pried it from her hand. A silent request. She obliged, releasing her hold as his scarred fingers grazed hers. A tingling sensation crept up her body from that contact, while Az pushed the book into its slot effortlessly. Gwyn still remained on her toes, looking up at him as he seemingly towered over her. Yet, she was not afraid of him. It was impossible to be, not when he was so gentle, and so strong, and had saved her life—

"Family history," he clarified. His voice was a low caress. "For Feyre." Azriel's hand lingered on the shelf high above her for a moment, a finger trailing slowly down the cracked spine of the book. Gwyn's eyes darted from his face to the book, then back to his face. A moment seemed to stretch into a thousand tiny moments that burned into his mind like etchings on a cave: face, so smooth and gentle, yet lively; plush, pink lips that curved upwards, that seemed to have a magnetic pull to his. If he leaned down far enough, his mouth might have met hers. Gods, she was divine. As expected of a priestess, he supposed.

He swore silently, worried he had upset her.

"Thank you," Gwyn said rather suddenly, as though snapping out of a daze. The faint blush did not leave her cheeks, though. Her hand drifted to her necklace, fiddling with it and zipping the small flower pendant along the chain. He only stole a glance at her, not wanting to stare too long and make her uncomfortable. My Unapologetic Review of A Court of Frost and Starlight (1.5 Stars out of 5)

Okay, to begin, I liked ACOTAR, I absolutely LOVED ACOMAF, and ACOWAR…it was okay.  Now to clarify, I’m not a fan of Sarah and I hate most of her books. But, that being said, I like some of them. I still haven’t finished Empire of Storms.  A little over halfway through I got bored and the chapters I was reading were so disgusting and unnecessary (Yes, I’m talking about Rowan, BARF) that I stopped, and have not expressed interest in continuing. The ACOTAR series, however, has always been okay for me.  Like I said, I’m not a fan of Sarah and I have this blog where I sometimes talk about it, but they aren’t the same that they used to be.  The reason I loved ACOMAF so much is because it had the most character and conflict development than any other book she has written, and almost every chapter was very well thought out and planned to compliment the endgame of the book (King of Hybern, Feysand, etc.).  

Now…ACOFAS.

Out of 5 stars I give this book….1 and a half..?

I’ll go through my problems with each character to start:

Feyre: Y’know, this series gets a lot of praise for being a feminist book, but what did Feyre do for the entire story?  Sat around the house…walked…cleaned…went shopping (like 5 times!)…painted…and had sex with Rhys.  Now Rhys is NOT Tamlin, and Feyre is in a much better place and mental state than she was at the beginning of ACOMAF, but I saw direct parallels to the beginning of both stories.  I was extremely bored during all of her chapters, and felt these chapters were mostly useless.  And OH MY GOD, LEAVE YOUR SISTERS ALONE!  Elain CLEARLY does not want anything to do with Lucien.  “He’s a good male.”  ELAIN DOESN’T CARE, STOP PRESSURING HER AND TREATING HER LIKE A CHILD!  Everyone in this book, minus Azriel, treats Elain like a fragile 2 year old.  Just let her cope and heal on her own time.  And Nesta, she was 1 of 3 characters that I didn’t want to kick in the throat.  Feyre, she has been traumatized!  Stop blackmailing her into coming to your dinner parties, stop telling her that she needs to be around the Inner Circle, she clearly wants space, give it to her! Feyre literally almost destroyed Tamlin’s house after he spent weeks of having guards follow her around and wouldn’t let her do anything.  She of all people should understand that Nesta just wants to be left alone and heal on her own terms.

Rhys: Oh my god, I hate, HATE Rhys in this book.  I still like Rhys overall, but he was annoying, disgusting, and overall regressed as a character in this book.  But, good lord, how is this sex-crazed, sleazy douchebag supposed to be the same character (who was loving, supportive, and understanding) from ACOMAF? He couldn’t go five minutes without talking about how much he wanted to fuck Feyre, or making gross innuendos, or saying he can’t bare to be standing next to her without wanting to be inside her?? Stop, good god.  Like I said, his character development REGRESSED in this book.  In ACOMAF, he said that Feyre is his equal in every way, and that she will never be sidelined or be forced to bare his children. You know what he did in this book? Constantly sidelined her and left her to do boring shit and shopping all day and consider having children.  He left Feyre at home while he dealt with border control, diplomat issues, and checking in on his armies.  AN ACTUAL QUOTE FROM THIS BOOK:  (Rhys walks in to see Feyre’s in bed) “Right where I left you”... “Isn’t it all I’m good for?”

Seriously?  You leave your HIGH LADY at home to cook and clean and shop while you handle all the serious responsibilities?  What a feminist!  Moving on…

 Cassian: OMG, LEAVE NESTA ALONE! Respect her privacy!  Side glancing at her from the other side of the room and chasing her in the street even though she asked you to leave MULTIPLE TIMES isn’t romantic, it’s douchey, arrogant, and disrespectful.  She doesn’t want to be around you, accept that and leave her alone to deal with her trauma.

 Azriel: One of the only pure characters left in this book.  He treats Elain with the respect she deserves, and actually listens to what people say to him!  Good job, Az!  You deserve better, and I hope you get some sort of character development and central arc by the time this series ends.  

 Mor:  I was thrilled to find out that Mor preferred women.  But why is she still keeping it a secret?  It’s not as if homophobia is a problem in this world, and Azriel is turning his eye toward Elain, so why doesn’t she stop stringing him along and let him and herself be happy?  The Inner Circle will obviously accept her for who she is, but she is still keeping her true self a secret for… no apparent reason.  I was hoping that this novella would be finally be her time to progress, but no.  Instead she buys bad gifts and continues to worry about her family.  This novella was supposed to bridge the gap from one focus to another, but this entire novella read like a poorly edited fanfiction and was otherwise completely useless and could have been included at the beginning of a longer novel.  I was angry that I paid so much money to read this story with no plot, character regression, and overall bland and overhyped fluff.  

Nesta and Elain:  I am absolutely disgusted with how these two are treated in this book.  They are the only characters that have any sort of sustenance at this point, yet they are ridiculed, belittled, and overall treated like children throughout the entire book.  Nesta doesn’t want to be around me?  Oh, let’s blackmail her into coming to my party by giving her the money she needs if she shows up!  Elain doesn’t want to see Lucien?  Well, he’s a good male, you just aren’t thinking clearly yet.  Come on Feyre, she may be more naïve than you, but she’s not dumb.

 Amren:  Did nothing in this book but obsess over jewelry, have sex with Varian, and build puzzles. I’m so glad that you gave up your other body and life to be stuck in Velaris doing nothing.  

 Overall opinion of this book: It was completely useless, disgusting and hard to read at times, and I feel like I wasted my money.  Will I still read the next book? Probably, because I am invested in the characters and I might finally get a decent plot from one of the few good characters left, aka Azriel, Lucien, and Nesta.

Do I hate Feysand? No, not at all.  Am I tired of their disgusting, overhyped, and unnecessary sex scenes? Yes.  I don’t have a problem with sex in books, but this book has too much of it for the 0% plot that happened in this book.  I would rather read 100 pages of ‘A Day in the Life of Nesta Archeron’ than read one more cringy Feysand sex scene.  

I doubt anyone read all of this, and I’m definitely going to lose followers over this, but this is my opinion.  Do not comment how much you disagree or think I’m wrong, it doesn’t help.  But if you agree, I’d love to hear your opinions and know I’m not alone.  Have a great day everyone! 😊

During the Obama years, Republicans won total control of the state government1 in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Then, on Election Day in 2016, Hillary Clinton narrowly lost in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — states Democrats had won at the presidential level for more than two decades. She was easily defeated in Iowa and Ohio, which had tended to be close.2 Clinton barely won in Minnesota, another state where Democrats are usually strong. Post-election, there was a lot of doom and gloom about the Democratic Party’s prospects in the Midwest, with both nonpartisan analysts and even some party strategists suggesting the party needed a dramatic overhaul or risk losing in this region, which will be packed with white, working-class voters, for the foreseeable future.

Never mind all that now. Democrats are looking strong in the Midwest — it is by some measures the region where they are likely to make their biggest gains this November.

Let’s start with the House. Because all 435 House seats are on the ballot every two years, the House will provide the fullest picture of how the two parties are doing in 2018. According to the Classic version of FiveThirtyEight’s House forecast, Democrats are favored to pick up about 14 seats in the Midwest. That’s a big number on its own, but it’s even more significant when you think about that gain in terms of regions. Sure, the Democrats are likely to gain seats in the Northeast and Pacific, as you might expect, but they are making even bigger strides in the Midwest in terms of the number of seats they are expected to gain relative to the total number of seats available in the region.

To compare how strong Democrats look in one region versus another, we have to put regions with different numbers of seats on equal footing. To do that, we divided the number of seats Democrats are favored to win in each region by the total number of seats there. We then multiplied that by 100, which shows us how many seats the Democrats would be favored to pick up in each region if every region had 100 races. When all regions are normalized in this way, we can see that the Midwest is shaping up to be the party’s best region. (How you divide the states into regions is a matter of great and impassioned debate, of course; here we’re using an old-school FiveThirtyEight categorization. But yes, feel free to object to Pennsylvania being included in the Midwest if you like.)

The potential Democratic gains are scattered throughout the Midwest, from Pennsylvania (where they’re favored for four pickups) to Iowa and Kansas (two) to Michigan (one).3

It’s not just the House, either. Democratic incumbents are clear favorites to win their Senate races in Michigan, Minnesota (two races there, actually), Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. They are modest favorites to hold on to seats in Indiana and Missouri — which were very red in 2016. Democrats are favored to win gubernatorial races in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. The gubernatorial contests in Ohio and Wisconsin are toss-ups, and Democrats even have a chance in two very conservative states, Kansas and South Dakota. A win by Tony Evers in Wisconsin would be particularly significant for Democrats, who have failed in three different attempts to defeat Gov. Scott Walker.

What’s behind what appears to be a Midwestern revival for Democrats? Well, the most obvious answer is that Democrats didn’t have such a big problem in the Midwest in the first place — so it is entirely logical that they would do well there in 2018 because it is shaping up to be a good year for Democrats nationally.

There were a lot of stories as Obama left office about how Democrats had lost hundreds of seats at the congressional, state legislative and gubernatorial levels while he was president. But parties that hold the White House often lose seats in other places — Republicans had huge down-ballot losses when George W. Bush was president, for example, and it looks like they may have similar declines under President Trump.

The pattern seems to be that the best thing for a party that wants to make gains at the state and congressional level is to lose a presidential election first. In particular, midterm elections are typically rough for the president’s party, even if that president is popular — and Trump is fairly unpopular.

So we should have expected Democrats to bounce back overall after 2016 — and that’s exactly what’s happening. It’s not that Democrats are likely to make gains only in the Midwest, after all. Our Classic model shows them picking up at least one seat in every region in the country.

But why are the biggest gains likely to come in the Midwest? First of all, 2018 is confirming what previous election cycles had suggested — this is an area that swings a lot between the two parties. Democrats made major gains in the Midwest in 2006, then faltered in the Obama years and look to be having a revival now. And because Democrats lost in many key races in the Midwest in 2010 and 2014, there was some low-hanging fruit for Democrats to pick off in a year like this. (Like the governor’s mansion in traditionally-Democratic Illinois, for example.) Contrast the Midwest with the South, where Republicans have steadily gained ground for two decades and are likely to lose relatively few seats even in what appears to be a Democratic wave year.

Secondly and relatedly, national polls suggest that white voters without college degrees favor Republicans in 2018, but the margin between the two parties is likely to narrow compared to 2016, when Clinton lost that bloc by more than 30 percentage points. That shift has outsized influence in the Midwest, which has higher populations of white voters without college degrees than many other parts of the country. So the Democrats’ problem with white working-class voters may not be as severe as it looked on Election Day 2016 — which perhaps had more to do with the conditions in that election than the party overall. What we are seeing in 2018 suggests that working-class whites are not a single national bloc, but still vote much differently by state and region. Working-class whites in Southern states like Georgia and Texas are overwhelmingly opposed to Democratic candidates in key races this year, but they are less GOP-leaning in Midwest states like Ohio and Wisconsin.

I don’t think the Democratic strength in these races in the Midwest is particularly tied to the candidates who are running or any kind of major ideological or tactical shift within the party. Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin is a populist, Bernie Sanders-style Democrat and has embraced a Medicare-for-all health care proposal. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is more of an Obama-Clinton Democrat in terms of ideology and has not embraced Medicare-for-all. Both are likely to win. Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown is often described as being particularly good at connecting with voters, but Wisconsin gubernatorial challenger Evers is considered, even by some fellow Democrats, to be kind of dull and uninspiring — and he could win too. There aren’t a lot of nonwhite Democrats running in key races in this region, but several women are running — so Democrats have a slate of candidates in the Midwest that is broadly similar to the party overall in terms of demographics.

It helps that Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow and a few other Democrats in this region are incumbents, but Michigan’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Gretchen Whitmer, has a sizable lead too — and she has never before been elected to statewide office.

Two caveats to all of this. First, the Midwest had some of the biggest polling misses in 2016. So maybe, for example, Ohio’s Democratic nominee for governor, Richard Cordray, whose race is considered a toss-up, ends up losing by 5 points. I still think, even if the polls are inaccurately titled towards Democrats, they will end up having a better night in this region than they did in 2016. Secondly, I’ve cast this story as Democrats doing better in the Midwest than their worst fears in the days immediately following Clinton’s loss. Those fears now look overwrought, but Democrats could still have cause for concern after Election Day 2018. There’s a real chance Democrats narrowly lose the governors races in Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin next month. If the party can’t win in these states when there’s an unpopular Republican in the White House, when can they win?

“Good night, Darling. Sleep well.” Feyre snorted to herself. As if she would be able to sleep through the night. Rhys leaned in a little, but stopped short. Feyre knew what Rhys was going to do. She also knew that he wouldn’t kiss her forehead because of how she acted around him.

Instead, Feyre leaned up to kiss Rhys’s cheek. Rhys stilled, his eyes closing to savor the feel of her lips against his skin. “Good night, Rhys.” She whispered, pulling back.

“Feyre darling…” Rhys started to say, but she shook her head. Not now.

Feyre stepped into her room, leaving Rhys in the hallway, wondering what spurred her action. To be honest, Feyre didn’t know why she kissed his cheek either.

Feyre fell asleep that night with her lips tingling from the touch of Rhys’s warm, golden skin.

“He would always take me on picnics.” Lucien smiled fondly, recalling memories from another time. “It was something he did with his family growing up, so he insisted we do it too. At first I wasn’t sure, but I enjoyed myself. Whenever we had free time, that’s what we would do.”

“Is that something you want to do as well?” Cassian inquired, rubbing soothing circles into the back of Lucien’s hands.

“I’m not sure if I could do it now. Maybe one day.”

The two fell into a companionable silence.

“When Feyre started hanging out with us, she dragged us to various art museums.” Lucien huffed a chuckle. “She would always leave us to browse the displays.”

“That sounds like Feyre!” Cassian remarked.

“Once, Andras and I were in this garden. It had statues everywhere. I turned around and came face-to-face with a scary gargoyle one. I screamed and jumped back, but ended up tripping and falling into a fountain behind me.” Lucien’s cheeks burned when Cassian roared in laughter. “I may have a picture Andras sent me somewhere.”

“Now that I have to see!” Cassian managed to say.

“Only if you’re a good boy.” Lucien purred.

“Mmmm.” Cassian hummed. “Good thing I’m always good.” At that, Lucien snorted.

“I am!” He exclaimed.

“Sure you are, Cass.”

“You are so mean to me!” Cassian said jokingly.

Lucien rolled over on his bed to face Cassian. He placed a soft kiss on his lips.

“Am I forgiven?”

“Y’know, I think I need more apologies.”

Lucien leaned back over to kiss him. Slowly, the kiss turned deeper. His tongue swept into Cassian’s mouth, exploring every inch - not that he needed much exploring.

Cassian flipped them over so he was on top. Lucien arched his back as Cassian ripped his mouth away to place small, wet kisses along his neck. A moan escaped Lucien’s mouth when Cassian sucked on the spot where his neck met his shoulder.

“Cass…” Lucien breathed. Cassian growled in approval.

Lucien flipped them over so he was now in control. He licked up the column of Cassian’s throat to meet his lips in a sloppy kiss, all teeth and tongue.

The ping of an incoming text broke them apart.

“You should probably get that.” Cassian said in between kisses when Lucien ignored the onslaught of notifications he was getting in favor of feeling his boyfriend’s skin up beneath his lips.

“Fine.” Lucien said with irritation at being interrupted.

Feyre: I need your help!

Feyre: I kissed Rhys on the cheek, but now I don’t know what to do!

Feyre: It wasn’t a friendly kiss, but it wasn’t one shared between a couple either.

I am 95% certain that Elucien and Gwynriel will eventually be endgame. But that OTHER ship. Man, do they twist canon around so painfully. It’s just blatantly incorrect. They pointed out the scene where Madja said that if something’s amiss then a mate would know and paired it with Azriel realizing that she’s a Seer. Realizing someone’s powers does not equal realizing something is wrong with the person. Lucien and everyone else knew that Elain was not doing great and that something was going on. Lucien cared more for Elain’s well being and knew that she needed some air, needed to get out. All his actions pointed to putting Elain’s needs first. Meanwhile the other dude just said she doesn’t need anything, giving a name to her powers does not mean he’s the one who realizes something was “amiss” that’s like suggesting that her being a Seer is the problem. Meanwhile, Lucien knew that the amiss part was not whatever power she got, it was more about how she was feeling. So it’s clear on who really got insight into what Elain truly needs and was truly feeling. The former is an over protective borderline repressive dynamic there but with Lucien it’s addressing the problem and allowing room and opportunity for Elain to heal.

Also, they cannot go around claiming and theorizing that Az and Elain are the true mates or could be mates and use it as a reason for shipping them and then hate on Eluciens for using the same reason except it’s actual canon. Make it make sense.

Please restore my faith in this fandom.

This is a debate I will continue to stand my ground on.

If I said to you, "what's wrong with Feyre?" at the start of ACOMAF, the answer would be "she's suffering from trauma and depression after what happened UTM and when she had to kill the two Fae". The answer would not be, "well she is super strong and left marks in the table, that's what's wrong with her". When someone demonstrates powers, it's not a "what's wrong with them?" situation. It's a "well what do we have here? This is interesting" type of thing.

Yes, Elain's powers were manifesting in a way that was confusing everyone but they were still a gift. There's nothing wrong with her in terms of her having a power which is why Lucien couldn't sense anything amiss beyond her lack of eating, depression, etc.

The fact that Az identifying the title of her powers ends up being romantically coded by some is so odd to me.

Let's break down everything that happened before then:

Elain has been in the HOW for at least a month, maybe more since she was Made.

When Feyre arrives, we find out Elain isn't sleeping, eating or drinking. She hasn't left her room.

Rhys tells Lucien that "“Elain has been cared for. Her participation in life here has been entirely her choice. No one but us and a few trusted servants have entered the House of Wind.” That means that he, Cassian, and Az were all permitted near Elain during those weeks / months. Regardless of Az's allowed proximity, Elain still has not slept, eaten, drank, or left her room.

Lucien arrives at the HOW, is devestated to see the condition Elain is in (can anyone provide me evidence of Az being upset over Elains condition?) and within a day or two, Elain leaves her room for the first time.

For the first time, Elain's eyes begin to focus when looking at Lucien.

Lucien tells Feyre that what Elain needs is to get outside. That she needs fresh air, to be taken to the sea, a garden.

Half an hour later, at Feyre's request, Az flies Elain down to the townhouse and "smiles faintly" when he asks if she'd like to see the garden. Sorry but I will never be convinced that this was Az's idea. He asked her half an hour after Lucien suggested it and after Feyre spoke to Rhys about everything. He "smiled faintly" which indicates he's not totally excited about it and sounds more like it someone else told him to do it.

Elain starts sleeping again. After Lucien's arrival and suggestion of getting her outside.

She has a vision and FEYRE ASKS AZ "WHAT DOES THAT MEAN"

Lucien suggests a Healer look over her. I just want to point out that nothing Az has done thus far was his own idea. Everything he has done for Elain was at the request of others.

The healer says she can find nothing wrong with Elain, that she is just changed but suggests Lucien see if anything is amiss.

Lucien doesn't have a ton of time to reach out to Elain through the bond because the second he tugs on it, Nesta all but threatens him which causes Elain to go stand by Nesta's side, ending what he was attempting. However during that time he also does not note anything being wrong with Elain (again, a power is not something that is wrong). But we do see Elain drinking which again, puts her in a better place than she was before Luciens arrival (when Az was near those first weeks, she wasn't eating, drinking, or sleeping - only with Lucien's presence did she start doing them again).

FEYRE OFFERS TO TAKE ELAIN TO THE GARDEN TO SEE THE HERBS SHE PLANTED but Az offers to help her instead.

Then Az finally realizes a few days later that Elain is a Seer.

Someone honestly wants to argue that Az demonstrated Mate like behaviors toward Elain? Nothing he did when Elain was at her lowest was instinctual. Everything he did for Elain was at the prompt of someone else and he just followed through with their request or piggy backed off their idea. Sorry but Feyre showed more Mate like behavior towards Elain than Az did.

It honestly reads to me that Az was a bit indifferent towards Elain until Feyre basically put Elain in his path (when Lucien was the one who came up with the actual ideas in the first place). Then suddenly Az took note of this poor helpless damsel who he got to feel important with because she was in a time of need.

Yes he figured out that she was a Seer but so what? Seriously, it's a power. Not something that makes Elain who she is, who she was. It's a gift that Az, with his many resources (and after Feyre all but requested he look into) was able to name.

Sorry but if you put two men in front of me and one was able to guess my job title based on clues while the other was able to sense my needs and desires (Lucien blushing at what he found through the bond), which one seems more romantic and soul mate like?
