So you want to become a better person by building good character traits? Perhaps, you’d like to be more “kind,” “loving” or “generous.” Or, you look up to the heroes you admire and wish you had their “discipline,” “patience” or “grit.”
At this point, the sceptics may say: “But that’s impossible!” or “I was just born this way.” The good news is they don’t know what they’re on about.
Changing your character is not only doable, but also simple. That doesn’t mean the path is quick or easy. It takes sacrifice, persistence and effort.
But the rewards are well worth it.
Because here’s the thing: the only difference between you and your heroes is character. When you reforge your nature, you’ll find their footsteps easier to follow.
But where does this journey begin? What should you take with you? And whom?
By the end of this article, you’ll have answers to all those questions. You’ll also have:
A list of 800 character traits to inspre you;
A set of free value tracking templates to support you; and
A foolproof five-step process to help you develop a good character.
Let’s get started!
What Are Character Traits?
One way to better understand character traits is to define three closely related ideals: core values, personality traits and character traits.
Though often used interchangeably, these terms have distinct definitions:
Core values (a.k.a personal values) are theoretical ideals of thought, word or deed;
Personality traits describe one’s public, external behaviour; and
Character traits describe one’s private, internal compass.
The main focus of this guide is building good character traits. To understand why it’s a priority, let’s dive deeper.
Core Values vs. Personality and Character Traits
I don’t talk much about core values with my clients. Here’s why:
Values describe ideas;
Traits describe actions; and
Actions speak louder than abstract ideas.
Anyone can claim or aspire to “tolerance” or “equality.” But it’s not until those values are expressed through actions that they become traits. And it’s not until they become traits that they impact you and the people around.
When you focus on values, there’s a tendency to talk a lot, then “set and forget.” You decide to be “kind,” “generous” and “loving.” You may even write those words down. But until you change how you act them out when it matters, core values are no more than ideas.
That’s why here, we focus on character traits. Obsessing over values is like getting distracted by the half-way line when your gaze should be fixed on the end-zone.
Personality Traits vs. Character Traits
The second important distinction is between personality traits and character traits.
We all know people whose appearances don’t always match their “true colours.” Who care more about being seen as “modest,” “selfless” or “thoughtful” than about being those things. Who put on good acts but betray their heart under pressure.
This is the essential division between personality traits and character traits. Personality traits describe what you do, character traits describe who you are.
When the stakes are high or your ability to pretend is low, the character always wins.
Character Traits Definition
That’s why I focus on character traits. I’m not here to teach you to say pretty words or become a good actor. The goal is to help you redefine the core of your being.
Core values are theoretical ideas, positive personality traits can be simulated but positive character traits go right to the heart of us. They’re deep-seated, long-term patterns of action, reaction and compromise that become hard to fake when we’re stressed out or tired.

Another great way to understand traits is with a lot of examples.

How to Embody Good Character Traits
The secret to developing good character traits is realising that each trait is a constellation of deep-seated habits.
For example, “modesty” describes many small routines of thought, word and deed which create patterns of behaviour that are consistent with our idea of “modest.”
But here’s the challenge. Because unlike big habits, the “building blocks” of character traits are hard to pick out and isolate.
What are “tolerance,” “curiosity” or “acceptance”? Defining the sums by their parts is a challenging task. And, even if we could identidy those thousands of sub-habits, they’d be too many to work on.
That’s why the approach to character traits must be slightly different from how we build habits.
From Input to Output-Based Tracking
What we need is a system similar to habit hacking but more output-focussed. This system measures the results of our actions, rather than whether or not they took place.
The solution (first described in Benjamin Franklin’s excellent Autobiography) is to flip habit tracking on its head. Instead of tracking habits (input) to change your behaviours (output), you’ll track behaviours (output) to alter your habits (input).
Specifically, you’re going to track every behaviour that fails to align with your desired character trait.
5 Steps to Hacking Your Character Traits
If this explanation sounds overwhelming, the good news is that it’s time to get practical. Building new traits into your character is incredibly simple and has five foolproof steps:
Step 1: Identify Character Traits That Inspire You
Step 2: Prioritise ONE Trait at a Time
Step 3: Set Your Trait Up for Success
Step 4: Make Your Character Trait a Habit
Step 5: Repeat the Trait Building Process
Let’s look at each step in more detail.
Step 1: Identify Good Character Traits That Inspire You
The first step in our process is to identify a handful of positive characteristics that inspire you.
Building character traits is a long journey. Starting with those that excite you (rather than those you think you should work on) will make you more likely to succeed.
There are two main ways to tackle this: the long list approach or the hero approach.
For the long list approach – re-read the list of good character traits above and note any traits that jump at you. Don’t overthink it. You should easily find 10 or more ideas in a few minutes.
For the hero approach – make a list of the people that inspire you the most. Dead or alive, fact or fiction, all choices are good. When that’s done, reflect on the two or three traits you most look up to in each of those people.
Both approaches work well, though one big advantage of the hero approach is that it unlocks something I call “hero-based thinking.”
Picturing your hero and thinking about what they’d do in a given situation makes the whole process more fun and inspiring. Many decisions and trade-offs become easier to make.
Step 2: Prioritise ONE Trait at a Time
Although the process of developing character traits is simple, it can also be challenging. Taking on too many traits at once may hold you back from changing anything. The solution is to start with one, then add more as you go.
To pick the ONE character trait you should start with, look at your shortlist and ask:
“Which of these traits would most transform my life if I embodied it?”
Narrow your selection to a few candidates, then pick ONE to get started with.
A big part of you is going to want to tackle three, four or five values at once. My recommendation is to strongly resist that temptation.
You can think of it this way. If you could embody even ONE trait like “discipline” or “kindness,” there’s a good chance you’d change beyond recognition. Why let impatience put that opportunity at risk?
Start with one trait to maximize your odds of succeeding. You can always come back for more later.

Step 3: Set Your Trait Up for Success
Loners don’t last long in the wild. That’s why we all have an insatiable drive to “fit in.” It’s also why the strongest influence on your actions is the behaviour of the people you hang out with.
No matter how driven you are to change, you’ll struggle if you surround yourself with lazy people. Each time you start making progress, your subconscious will try to drag you back in line with the group.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: “I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and a man was offering prayer in which he supplicated:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيعُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ، يا ذُو الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، يَا حَىُّ يَا قَيُّومُ
Allahumma inni as’aluka bi-anna lakal-hamd. La ilaha illa Anta, wahdaka la sharika laka. Al-Mannanu, Badi’us-samawati wal-ard, Ya Dhal-jalali wal-ikram, Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum
(O Allah! I ask You by virtue of the fact that all praise is due to You; none has the right to be worshiped but You alone, and You have no partner or associate, the Bestower, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O Ever-Living, O Eternal One)
The Prophet (ﷺ) then said: “Do you know what he has supplicated with?” They said: “Allaah and His Messenger know best.” He said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allaah by His greatest Name, which – if He is called by it – He responds, and if He is asked by it, He gives.”

O Allah! Possessor of the kingdom, You give the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from whom You will, and You endue with honour whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is the good. Verily, You are Able to do all things. You make the night to enter into the day, and You make the day to enter into the night (i.e. increase and decrease in the hours of the night and the day during winter and summer), You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give wealth and sustenance to whom You will, without limit (measure or account).

So glorify Allah [above all that (evil) they associate with Him (O believers)], when you come up to the evening [i.e. offer the (Maghrib) sunset and ('Isha') night prayers], and when you enter the morning [i.e offer the (Fajr) morning prayer]. And His is all the praises and thanks in the heavens and the earth, and (glorify Him) in the afternoon (i.e. offer 'Asr prayer) and when you come up to the time, when the day begins to decline (i.e offer Zuhr prayer). (Ibn 'Abbas said: "These are the five compulsory congregational prayers mentioned in the Quran)." He brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living. And He revives the earth after its death. And thus shall you be brought out (resurrected).

Anas (R) said that once the Prophet (SAW) went to a man who was about to die. He asked her, "How are you?" The man said, "I hope in God and I fear for my sins." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "If these two words come together in the mind of a servant, then Allaah will give him that which he hopes for and save him from that which he fears." 1. Make Dua for others
Yes, we all know that. But how can we optimize this? Make dua for others what you want for yourself. We can understand this better with an example. When I was pregnant, I used to pray regularly for normal and easy delivery. But even before I was pregnant I used to pray for my pregnant cousins, relatives and friends that they have easy and normal deliveries. I did this for several reasons.
1. I am extremely scared of surgeries and did not want anyone to undergo them.
2. As a muslim, I am supposed to feel the pain of other muslims and pray for them.
3. They had asked me to pray for them.
4. I can understand their pain as a fellow woman and I had to pray for them.
5. I knew sometime in future, I would be pregnant and Angels are saying “Same be with you.”
Umm Darda’ reported:
My husband reported that he heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned (for carrying supplication to his Lord) says: Amen, and it is for you also.(Sahih Muslim)
https://sunnah.com/muslim/48/120
So, how can you make dua for others?
Firstly Listen and remember:
1. People share problems with us. Sometimes, just as a passing comment, sometimes with a lot of pain. Listen to them and mentally make a note of all their worries and issues. Not all people will ask you to make dua for them. Make dua for them anyway.
2. Collect and make a dua list for all your friends, family, relatives, neighbors, colleagues and acquaintances.
3. You can stress on duas that have similar needs as yours.
4. Make both general and specific duas.
5. Make dua for people collectively and also individually taking their name.
2. Ask people to make dua for you.
1. Don’t be shy or too proud or arrogant to ask people to pray for you, especially those who are indebted to you.
2. Keep reminding them to pray for you. They may forget one time, but they wont forget when reminded constantly.
3. Be kind. Be so good to people that you won’t even have to ask them to make dua for you. Help them out, relieve them of some of their troubles, make them happy and solve some of their problems. In short, be of use to your parents, family, friends, relatives, colleagues, acquaintances, neighbors strangers, in fact everybody. Duas pour out directly from heart for helpful people.
3. Make lot of duas and many times during the day.
Dua for every single thing.
Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whenever a Muslim supplicates Allah, He accepts his supplication or averts any similar kind of trouble from him until he prays for something sinful or something that may break the ties of kinship.” Upon this someone of the Companions said: “Then we shall supplicate plenty.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah is more plentiful (in responding).”
[At- Tirmidhi].
https://sunnah.com/riyadussaliheen/17/37
Make dua for everything : Every little problem, every minute issue, every small annoyance, every tiny trouble. Allah(swt) did not place a limit on the number or type of duas. Show Allah your dependence on him by constant duas. He loves that.
Duas, prayers, supplications, duaa, why my dua is not accepted?, how to get my supplications granted?, how to make dua, how to benefit from duas, muslim dua, quran duas, duas by muslim.

4. Ask Allah first.
Suppose, a problem comes up. You know a particular person can solve it. You call him immediately. Stop. Call Allah first. Ask Allah first. Yes, that person can solve your problem but can he do that if Allah doesn’t will it? Are we placing more faith in a human rather than Allah(swt)? We must always believe that everything is from Allah, if Allah doesn’t order than no matter how easy it is for a human to solve a problem, it wont be solved if Allah doesn’t order it.
Always discuss your problems with Allah first. Talk to Him, pour your heart out, seek help and be confident of a positive response.
5. Do a good deed.
Fast, give charity, do sadqah, read Quran or any good deed and then make dua “Ya Allah! I have done this deed solely for your pleasure, please accept it and grant me this need!”
Have a stash of good deeds always ready to “offer”. To have a great deal of them always in stock, you can recite “Subhan Allahi wabihamdihi” or “la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu lahul mulku walahulhamdu wahuwa ala kulli shayyin khadeer” hundred times.
Abu hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “He who utters a hundred times in a day these words: ‘La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘ala kulli sha’in Qadir (there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him; His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent),’ he will have a reward equivalent to that for emancipating ten slaves, a hundred good deeds will be recorded to his credit, hundred of his sins will be blotted out from his scroll, and he will be safeguarded against the devil on that day till the evening; and no one will exceed him in doing more excellent good deeds except someone who has recited these words more often than him. And he who utters: ‘Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi (Allah is free from imperfection and His is the praise)’ one hundred times a day, his sins will be obliterated even if they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean.”
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Dua, duaa, duas, supplications, prayers, getting duas answered, getting prayers answered.
Top tips to get your duas answered.
6. Give up a sin.
Use Ayat e karima. “La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni ku tum min-az-zaalimeen.”
Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Sa`d narrated from his father, from Sa`d that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors. (Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (Tirmidhi)
https://sunnah.com/tirmidhi/48/136
While reciting this ayat, think of at least one of your sins that you have committed, are truly regretful about and are willing to give up for the sake of Allah. It could be a regular habit of yours or a one-off incident of disobedience to Allah. Feel true and deep regret, cry over it and make dua.
7. Give thanks.
Allah(swt) says in Holy Quran: “If you give thanks, I will give you more.” (14:7)
http://legacy.quran.com/14/7
If you want more wealth, give thanks for every dollar. Be thankful for what you already have, no matter how meager it is, in order to receive more. Don’t complain or be ungrateful. Watch your tongue, does it express words of appreciation and contentment or utters ungrateful statements?
If you want increase in rizq, recite authentic duas before and after every meal. Say Alhumdulillah often, after every morsel if possible.
8. Be proactive.
Along with prayers, make some effort as well. Do something about it. Do everything you can to make it possible. Show Allah you are working really hard. Consistent efforts combined with dua really does wonders.
9. Imagine and expect positive results.
Ask and you shall receive. Once you have made dua, be positive of a response. Have firm faith that it will be answered and your wish will definitely be granted. Don’t doubt it. You have asked the King. Nothing is impossible for Him. No matter, how big your need is, or how difficult you think your problem is, or how messy your situation is, it is nothing in front of Allah and is very, very easy for him. Kun fayakun. He says “Be” and it is. It is that easy for Allah(swt), the Lord of the worlds. http://legacy.quran.com/36/82
Prophet Muhammad(saw) said : “A supplication should be made in full confidence and one should persistently express his desire (before Allah) in his supplication, for no bounty is too great for Allah to bestow (upon his slaves).” (Muslim )
https://sunnah.com/riyadussaliheen/18/233
10. It’s a win-win situation.
If your dua is answered : say Alhumdulillah. If your dua is not answered say “Alhumdulillah ala kulli haal”. Accept the response and situation gracefully. Be thankful. Always remember that Allah can reverse the condition in a second. So, never be ungrateful.
When your dua is answered, say Alhumdulillah from heart, make sujood, increase in your ibadah and decrease your disobedience. Show gratefulness through both your actions and words.
When your dua is not answered, do the same and more. Because duas that have not been answered are the ones that will benefit you in the long term, i.e., in the hereafter and that truly is the ultimate achievement. The unanswered duas are also “working” to prevent accidents and to dodge troubles from you. They could be the reason you enter Jannah.
Jabir narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “There is none who utters a supplication, except that Allah gives him what he asked, or prevents evil from him that is equal to it – as long as he does not supplicate for something evil, or the cutting of ties of the womb.” (Tirmidhi)
https://sunnah.com/tirmidhi/48/12
So, remember; Always, always make dua. Dua is ibadah.
You can read daily duas from Hisnul Muslim book.

O Allah, we seek refuge in You from death and its agonies; and the grave and its distress; and the Sirat and its perils; and the Day of Rising and its terrors. [Repeated three times]

O Allah, lift Your displeasure and anger from us. O Allah, lift Your displeasure and anger from us. O Allah, lift Your displeasure and anger from us, and do not call us to account for what we have done; and do not hold us accountable for what the foolish among us do; and do not place upon us, due to our sins, an authority who does not fear or revere You and who will not have mercy on us.
O Allah, purify our hearts; divest us of our faults; relieve our worries and troubles; protect us in the best way; and gather for us the best of the hereafter and the best of this life.

O Allah, encompass us in the vastness of Your mercy.
O Allah, avert the harms and evils that concern and trouble us.
O Allah, allow us to pass away with sound faith, (faithful to) the Book and the Sunnah, and in a state in which You are pleased with us, O You Who is the Most Generous (al-Kareem).
O Allah, allow the Qur’an to be our close companion in this life; and in our graves a comforting friend; and a light on the Sirat; and an intercession at the time of resurrection; and our companion in Paradise; and make it a protection and barricade between us and the Hellfire; and a guide and leader to all good works, by Your Grace, O Most Generous of those who show generosity.
O Allah, distance us from our mistakes as You have distanced the East from the West. O Allah, purge our sins from us the way a white cloth is purified from filth; O Allah cleanse us from our sins with the (purity of) water, snow, and hail.
O Allah, You are the Forgiving (al-`Affuw), and You love to forgive, so please forgive us. O Allah, You are the Forgiving (al-`Affuw), and You love to forgive, so please forgive us. O Allah, You are the Forgiving (al-`Affuw), the Generous (al-Kareem), the Forbearing (al-Haleem), the Great (al-`Adheem), and You love to forgive, so please forgive us.
O Allah, grant us well being and safety; pardon us; accept our deeds; accept us; accept our repentance, and excuse us, by Your loving Grace, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
Our Lord, accept from us (our deeds), You are the All-Hearing (as-Sami`), the All-Knowing (al-`Aleem). Accept our repentance, Our Lord, You are the Oft-relenting (at-Tawwab), The Merciful (ar-Raheem). Forgive us and have mercy upon us, Our Lord, You are the Forgiving (al-Ghafur), the Merciful (ar-Raheem). Save us from sorrow and worry and the greatest distress (of punishment in the Hereafter). Save us from sorrow and worry and the greatest distress (of punishment in the Hereafter).
O Allah, bestow on us the gift of seeing Your Noble Countenance. [Repeated three times]
O Allah, make us from among those who have running beneath them the rivers of Paradise… “Their prayer therein will be, “Glory be to You, O Allah”; and their greeting (to one another) therein is, “Peace.” And the conclusion of their prayer will be, “Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds.” (Qur’an, 10:10)
“Our Lord, condemn us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, lay not on us a burden like that which you laid on those before us. Our Lord, lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, and grant us forgiveness, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who stand against faith.” (Qur’an, 2:286)
“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You; for You art the Grantor of bounties without measure. Our Lord, surely it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day about which there is no doubt, for verily, Allah never fails in His promise.” (Qur’an, 3:8-9)
“Our Lord, forgive us our sins and anything we may have done that transgressed our duty. Establish our feet firmly, and help us against those that resist Faith.” (Qur’an, 3:147)
“Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire – You have disgraced him, and for the unjust wrongdoers there are no helpers. Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise.” (Qur’an, 3:192-194)
“In Allah do we put out trust. Our Lord, make us not a trial for those who practice oppression; and save us, by Your mercy, from those who reject You.” (Qur’an, 10:8-9)
“Our Lord, In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final return. Our Lord, make us not a test and a trial for the disbelievers, but forgive us, our Lord, for You are the Exalted in might, the Wise.” (Qur’an, 60:4-5)
“Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who came before us into the faith, and leave not, in our hearts, ill feeling against those who have believed. Our Lord, You are indeed full of kindness, most merciful.” (Qur’an, 59:10)
O Allah, to You we lovingly submit; and in You we believe; and upon You do we rely. To You we turn (in repentance), and by You we argue (and advocate). Forgive us for what we have sent forth (in deeds) and for what we have held back; for what we have made known, and for what we have hidden; and for (our deeds) which You have more knowledge of than we ourselves.
O Allah, be compassionate with us, for You are the One who shows us mercy. Do not punish us for our sins, for You are the Powerful over us. Be gracious and kind to us, Our Lord, for what has come to pass in our time and place; and (we ask You, O Allah) to conclude our lives for us with a beautiful and joyful ending.
“Exalted is Your Lord, the Lord of Might and Honor, above what they describe; and peace be on the messengers (of God); and all praise is due to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds.” (Qur’an, 37:180-182)
Send peace and blessings, O Allah, on our master Muhammad, and upon his blessed family and noble companions. Ameen

For Akhirah and Jannah
Forgive us all for our shortcomings. The sins we committed in the open, the sins we committed in private and the sins we committed collectivity. The sins we committed in the morning daylight, the sins we committed in the depth of the night. Forgive us for the sins we initiated and the sins we followed. Forgive us for the things we commit that we may not consider a sin. Ya Affu, Forgive us in such a way that leaves no trace of ever having sinned. There’s no forgiveness except from you, if you don’t forgive us – we will be the ultimate losers.
Ya Allah, give us Jannah, make us worthy enough to beg you for Jannah. The highest rank in the Illiyin, with the noble souls and Prophets. Amongst the Ar-Rafeeq Ul A’la (The Most exalted companionship on high) and in the company of the righteous- (ma’al Abrar)
Ya Allah, accept our good deeds, those which we fight hard with our nafs to perform. Those which we struggle to perform before Dawn. Those which we hide and do. Those which we persistently do. Those that lighten our pockets. Those which churn our stomachs. Those that don’t seem worth it. Accept from us all our deeds, the little that we have.
Ya Allah, help us be the people of Jannah, help us do the actions of the people of Jannah, help us use the speech of the people of Jannah. Ya Allah, protect us from hell and keep us far away from it.
Provide for us tranquillity in our hearts, the anticipation of entering Jannah and the anticipation of seeing you. Ya Allah, make us successful in weighing our deeds, allow the scale to be weighted towards our good and lighter towards the bad.
Ya Allah, do not expose my sins in front of anyone, do not expose my shortcomings, my weaknesses and my evil to anyone. Rabbi, shield me from exposure and protect my secrets.
Allow us to be of the people that would have the shade of your throne when there’s no shade at all. Allow us to make sujood to you when you lift the veil from our sights. Do not make us of the people whose backs would be stiffened and they’d be deprived of your sight.

Ya Allah, grant us the privilege of being those people who get a fast or no hisab. Allow us to enter Jannah with only your mercy. Ya Allah, do not hold us accountable on that day, for if you do, indeed there would be no escaping your justice.
Ya Allah, hand us our book of deeds in the right hand. Ya Allah, do not let us be of those that receive it in any other form. Allow us to be those who share their books with people in happiness.
Ya Allah, make us the People of the right or people of the front. Those of whom sip from goblets while lounging on gold couches. Ya Allah, make us of those who have shade with the honourable and the pious. Those with quick or no hisab.
Ya Allah, grant us the favour of drinking from Al Kawthar. Grant us the drink by our beloved Prophet’s hands, when thirst would overcome every living soul. Permit us to be of the crowd that is ushered towards the prophet and not the crowd of people that will be shunned away from him because of their deviance.
Ya Allah, do not make this dunya a greater concern to us than our Aakhirah. Do not make the glamour of this dunya a cause of longing and the root of our sadness. Remind us that this life is temporary and only but a station for a short while.
Ya Allah, make the crossing of the Siraat easy for us. Allow us to pass through with a flash. Do not make us of those who beg for light, do not make is of those whose lights fluctuate, do not make us of those who fall off it. Ya Allah, protect us from the failure of this test. Ya Allah, ease my crossing of the Siraat and Qantarah (bridges before Paradise).
Ya Allah, make our lights very bright, in this world and in the end. Ya Allah, bless us with the light of your Deen, the light of belief, the light of submission and the light of staying on the path of Muhammad (SAWS).
Ya Allah, protect us from the fitnah of the Dajjal, protect us from the fitnah of Yajuj and Majuj. Protect us from these trials that we know we are incapable of going through. Protect us and our families from this fitnah.
If we happen to be alive at the time of that fitnah, us our children or any of our progeny – Allah make them of the group of people that will accompany Eesa (AS).

Ya Allah, Favour us with the ultimate bliss of seeing You in the Hereafter.
Ya Allah, forgive me for anything I forgot to mention and give me more than what I intended in the Dunya and in the Akhira.
Ya Allah, bless and guide the person who compiled this dua list, guide the members of her family who are lost, immersed in shirk and have left Islam. Bless and guide those whose lists were used to create it, make this a source of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity) for all of them and their families

For Forgiveness
Ya Allah, forgive us if we have hurt someone intentionally or unintentionally. Forgive us if we have hurt others while joking, or lied to make people laugh.
Ya Allah, help people forgive us if they have vowed that they will never forgive us and hold us into account in the akhirah, pour Reham (mercy) in their hearts to forgive us. Forgive us in all the obligations towards you that we have failed, delayed, or done with wrong intentions.
Ya Allah, help us keep making tawbah, accept our tawbah and istaghfar, delete it off our accounts the way a dirty cloth is cleaned with water. Ya Allah, cleanse our hearts of sin, cleanse our minds from sin, cleanse our tongues from sin, cleanse our souls from sins, cleanse our limbs from sin and cleanse us completely from sin.
For Deceased and those who have left us

Ya Allah, have mercy on us, the living and the ones who passed away. Ya Allah, I pray you to have mercy on those who have no one to pray for them. Allah, have mercy on them, forgive them their sins, gift them Jannah, make their hisab easy and reunite them with their families.
Forgive each and every person who has passed away from my family and my progeny to come, help us unite with them in Jannah.
Death
Ya Allah, make the coming of death easy for us, allow our graves to be spacious, allow the coming of Munkar and Nakir easy for us. Allow us to have the answers to their questions and allow them to accept our responses. Lighten the questioning for us. Let our last words in this word be the shahadah
Ya Allah, bless us with a beautiful end, an end that’s honourable and painless. A death that is not harsh on us and not harsh on our families. Clothe us with the clothes of Jannah and bless us with its fragrance. Ya Allah, make us of the people who long to meet You and You long to meet them.
Open a window of Jannah for us in our graves and make it be spacious and bright. Allow our good deeds to be worthy in this world, that they accompany us in our graves. Allow us to have a peaceful time in barazakh, without any fear or anguish.
Oh Allah, make my grave a garden from the gardens of paradise and don’t make it a pit from the pits of hell.
Protect us from all the torments of the grave. Protect us from its tight embrace, from its darkness, from its torture, from its torment and from the loneliness within.
Grant us an honourable resurrection among honourable people of mankind. Ya Allah, take our souls at a time that you are happy with us, in a state of ibadah or in a state of helping someone.

O Allah, Make the best part of my life, the end of it. The last of my deeds, the best, and the best of my days, the day that I meet You.

Protected from the devil and his followers. Protect them from Hassad and ayn and calamities. Protect them from the hate and jealousy of people, protect them from the ayn and sihr of people. Ya Allah, grant me knowledge that is beneficial, be it that of deen or duniya. Help me contribute back with what you have blessed me with towards humanity at large. Help me not use my skills and knowledge in things you are not pleased with.
