Dinner Date
For STWG daily drabble and, more importantly, for Goldie @steventhusiast. Happy Birthday, you deserve the world. I know you’re asleep right now, but it’s technically still your bday here.
“Dingus, this is a really fancy restaurant.” Robin leans back in her chair, but her hand plays with the fork on her napkin.
Steve sips his wine; some of it tips over the edge onto the tablecloth. “What? Can’t a guy take his best friend out to a fancy dinner?” He tilts his head and takes in his best friend. What was once an awkward teen now had a beautiful, but still awkward, woman in her place.
“Steve, I love our friend dates, but usually they take place in a greasy diner or dollar pizza.” Robin picks the fork up and starts twirling it into her napkin. Steve watches her get mesmerized by the wrinkles that wrapped around the silverware, even though they both know the napkin should be in her lap by now.
Steve smiles softly, moves his napkin from his lap to the table, and begins to mimic Robin. “Okay, maybe I wanted it to be a special occasion.”
Robin giggles at Steve's poor fork-twirling form and leans over the table to fix it for him. “All occasions are special when we are together, so that doesn’t really mean much.” Robin’s nose scrunches in concentration as she gently guides Steve’s hand. She has done this plenty of times before, guiding Steve where he needed to be. Like taking him to the bookstore near her college so he wouldn’t have to go into sex with Eddie blind, or when she taught him how to whisk eggs properly. Both are equally important skills he now uses in his everyday life. “But you seemed nervous. You keep sipping your wine, and I know for a fact that you hate dry wine.”
Steve puts down the glass that was halfway to his mouth, “It’s not my fault Moscato tastes like candy!”
Robin snorts, “Seriously, Dingus. It’s just me. What’s up?”
Steve puts down the fork and his glass and looks Robin in the eye. “I wanted to ask you to be my best man.”
Steve expects a lot of reactions out of her: excitement, an eye roll, hell, even straight-up rejection. Maybe a little speech about how weddings for them aren’t even legal. Instead, a look of betrayal crosses her face. “You asked Eddie to marry you, and you didn’t even tell me you were proposing?”
Immediately, Steve clenches his stomach in outrageous laughter, nearly having to bend over the table. Steve tries to take Robin seriously; he really does. But she is supposed to be the smart one out of the two of them.
Rage takes over Robin completely as she reaches over the table to start slapping Steve’s arm. “Don’t laugh, you asshat! I am actually mad at you!”
“Ow—” Steve laughs. “Ow, Robin!” Another giggle escapes him as he gets her to sit back in her chair. “I’m laughing because, of course, I didn’t propose to Eddie without talking to you first.”
Robin settles a bit at this, “I’m confused.”
Steve reaches for her hand across the table; Robin doesn’t hesitate to wrap her fingers around his. “I’m asking you to be my Best Man first, doofus. Before I even pick out the damn ring. Which I definitely need you to steal one of Eddie’s rings for me so I can get the size; man watches those things like a hawk.”
Robin squeezes his hand, “Wait, why would you ask me that first? Isn’t that kind of backwards.”
“I do everything kind of backwards, babe. Kinda the Steve Harrington special.” Steve rubs a thumb against the back of soulmate's hand. “Of course, I ask you about being my best man first. There would be no wedding without you, so if you say no, there would be no proposing.”
Steve could see tears beginning to fill Robin’s eyes, “What are you saying?”
“Whoever gets stuck with me gets stuck with you. We’re a package deal, babe.”
Robin throws herself across the table, knocking the wine everywhere. Steve laughs and clenches her tightly. “Of course, I’ll be your best man! Someone’s gotta make sure you don’t hurt yourself going down the aisle.” She sobs.
Steve’s throat gets thick, “Pretty sure that’s the father's job, Robs. And you’d have to fight Jim for that role.”
“Fine.” Robin sniffs, leaning back to look him in the eye. “But I get stand by your side as you make a complete fool of yourself with your vows.”
“Deal.”
Robin leans forward, placing her forehead against Steve’s. “You and me against the world, babe.”
Steve hugs her tight, “You and me against the world.”

They had just finished up band practice when Vickie overheard Jordan and Brandon talking about Eddie Munson. Robin had walked out already, promising to wait outside the band hall for her.
"I don't know, man, I still think Eddie did it," Jordan said.
"They wouldn't have let him back into school if they thought he was still a murderer, Jordan," Brandon said.
"They were willing to ignore the fact that he was selling drugs, man," Jordan said.
"It's just weed," Brandon sighed and rolled his eyes.
"No, I heard he sells special K too," Jordan said. "That's the date rape drug. I wouldn't be surprised if he was using it on those kids in his club."
"Hey, Jordan," Vickie snapped.
She was seeing red. She had never been this angry in her entire life. She had been hanging out with Robin a lot lately, trying to work up the courage to ask her out. Hanging out with her meant hanging out with Robin's friends, and she's enjoyed hanging out with them. She's seen the way Eddie was with Dustin and his friends, the way he was willing to own up to the mistakes he did make. He didn't have a killer bone in his entire body.
"Shit, Vickie's pissed. Have you ever seen her pissed?" Jordan asked with wide eyes.
"Nope, and it looks like it's directed at you, pal," Brandon said.
"Hey, Vickie," Jordan smiled gently.
"Jordan, your dad's a pharmaceutical salesman, right?" Vickie asked, trying to remain level-headed.
"Yeah?" Jordan asked.
"Well, what's the difference between what he does and what Eddie does?" Vickie asked.
"Well, his drugs aren't illegal," Jordan scoffed. "And he doesn't use them to kill people."
"Dude," Brandon said and gave him a warning look.
"He and Steve Harrington are awfully chummy. Bet they use the drugs on Buckley to - ,"
All Vickie could see was red, and before she knew it, her fist was flying into his face. Her eyes widened when his head snapped back, and blood started to gush from his nose.
"The difference is that yes, the drugs are illegal," Vickie said, shaking. "Some of your dad's drugs are addictive and some aren't, just like Eddie's. What makes them the same is the fact that they can't know what someone's going to do with them, so the fact that Eddie sells drugs has shit to do with what happened. You don't know what happened because you don't know Eddie. He could never hurt a fly."
"You're crazy, just like -," but Jordan was interrupted.
"Hey!" Brandon snapped. "You were being a douchebag, so much so that sweet, calm Vickie Fisher punched you in the face. If anyone asks, I'm going to tell them you tripped, and no one will believe you that you got punched by Vickie because I'm pretty sure that most everyone in here has her back. Go on, Vickie, I'll deal with this asshole."
"Thanks, Brandon," Vickie said softly.
She was running on pure adrenaline when she walked up to Robin. She was leaning against Steve’s car, talking to both Steve and Eddie. There was no one else around when Vickie popped up beside Robin.
"Hey, Fishie," Eddie grinned.
Normally, she would tell Eddie off affectionately for calling her that, but she left it alone this time.
"Robin, do you want to go out with me?" Vickie asked, knowing already that she was out to Steve and Eddie.
Eddie squealed, gasped, and held onto Steve.
"Stevie, it's happening!" Eddie said excitedly.
"I know!" Steve grinned.
"Uh. . .yeah. Yes, I would very much like to go out with you," Robin grinned, blushing.
Vickie grinned and slipped her arm through Robin's.
"So, what made you decide to ask out our dear sweet Birdie?" Eddie asked.
Vickie opened her mouth to answer but was interrupted by Jordan approaching them. His nose was red, and he had missed a few spots of blood, but he suddenly looked apologetic.
"Uh, Vickie? I just wanted to apologize. I realize now that I was talking shit about stuff I know nothing about. I said some awful things about your friends. I know that now. I'm sorry," Jordan said. "You have a mean right hook, by the way."
Before she could say something, he was walking away.
"Ah, so it was adrenaline after you defended Robin's honor," Eddie said.
"Not just Robin's, yours too, Eddie," Vickie blushed.
"Aw, Fishie," Eddie said, squishing her face. "You don't have to do that. That's what I have Steve for."
"That is not what you have Steve for," Steve replied, and Vickie giggled.
Robin leaned her head against hers.
"I want to kiss you so badly," Robin whispered.
"Boys, argue later. Let's get out of here!" Vickie exclaimed.
Of course, as soon as they drove off with Vickie and Robin in the backseat, Vickie was capturing Robin's lips with hers. She could hear Eddie wolf whistle, then Steve scolding him. Robin started laughing against her lips, causing Vickie to do the same.

(ronance, robin(/a lil bit stobin too)-centric, side steddie fic idea)
So I'll probably at this point will never write this idea but I still wanted to share it with the fandom so I'll just dump my ramblings abt it here
I've been toying with the idea of actually nancy falling for Robin first and also Robin's queer adolescence and how Robin's trauma goes into her relationships
Specifically her relationship with Vicky
I just want her to care? To feel like the world is breaking because it's her first relationship??? like i want her to try and try to make this relationship work and still it doesn't because vicky wanted a clumsy cute normal girl and robin is all of that but also, also she wakes up in the middle of the night screaming, there are days where she needs to keep holding steve's hand to be okay, to remind themselves that they are real and here and alive and she has a group of people that she's very codependent with, a group of people that vicky will never fully be absorbed with and like all of this is fine if it's something vicky could take but she doesn't want and she doesn't have to!! but like it still hurts robin deeply because vicky is kind and she likes her back and she's her first love and to lose that slowly, to see vicky get overwhelmed with all of this is killing robin, it's making her feel even more broken and it hurts but also, it's just how things go
sometimes you fall in love and you get loved back and it still doesn't work out
it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt tho
so i just want her to care i want her to be hurt deeply in a way only first relationships hurt
Like I want Vicky and Robin to be cute and together and I want Robin to like her so fucking much and I want it to fail anyway because that's how it sometimes is no matter how smitten Robin is, how much they want it to work and it hurts, it hurts because it's unfair and it hurts because it's just how it goes and there is also just nothing special about it
And like Robin understands, but it hurts and it feels like there is just one more wrong thing with her, before she couldn't connect with people because of her being a lesbian and now when she found a girl that likes her she can't connect with her because of her trauma and it feels unfair, so fucking unfair
And at the beginning from Robin's side Ronance is platonic because she's preoccupied with Vicky and also because Nancy is Robin's first female friend
The thing is that Robin has grown up weird, it's like everybody could smell the queer on her before she could even understand it herself and so at first ronance from robin's pov is just a lot of being grateful for having a girl friend, for experiencing girl nights and sleepovers and Nancy doesn't make her feel like a freak and it feels safe and girly in a way Robin has never allowed herself to feel, always just too uncomfortable around girls even before she knew why, so she's kind of reliving her girlhood and honestly i think she deserves it
Meanwhile Nancy in the background is just working through her compulsory heterosexuality and figuring out she's a lesbian and she has been halfway in love with Robin since the Creel thing
Also I feel like Vicky would try to be supportive but she wouldn't get it but Nancy does
i have this scene
in my mind
like robin's nightmares are fine for vicky, it's when she's waking up all panicky and she needs steve in a way Vicky just doesn't get why, it's not that she doesn't try to be supportive but she doesn't get it
but one night when robin sleeps over at nancy's and she wakes up with steve's name on her lips, she gets nancy's hand on her back drawing small circles, little movement reminding her she's not alone and nancy calling steve on the walkie, not because robin asked but because nancy knew it was what robin needed, robin fell asleep again with nancy's arms around her and steve's voice on the walkie that night
and then in the morning nancy is like "don't mention it, sometimes i need to call jon, just to hear his voice, i understand the need" bc i'm a firm believer that jonathan is to nancy what steve is to robin and i will take no criticism (but i will accept that it might also be eddie and not jonathan but like also they are both her bestfriends you honor)
but robin is like feeling this queer dissonance bc she still doesn't know nancy isn't straight and it's like, yeah, but it's different. It's always different for me. you call jonathan because he's your boyfriend, that's what couples do, i call steve because he's an extension of me i didn't knew was walking outside of my body before i found him and suddenly i was whole again, i don't want to ever kiss him but i want to spent my life with him but she doesn't say that, because nancy might be kind and understanding, but she still was nancy the priss wheeler and robin doesn't want to lose girls' nights and sleepovers in one bed and this easy friendship because she's different again, so she just smiles and later when steve arrives to pick her up she cries in his shoulder
Like this scene is mostly a foreshadowing of how much Nancy fits and gets it
Also Steve and Robin platonic soulmates supremacy so a lot if this is also platonic soulmates stobin because Robin realizes she's going to leave for college soon and she doesn't want to leave without Steve, even if he won't be alone in hawkings bc he has the kids and Eddie (bc Eddie lives, ofc, i'm not killing my baby, lmao, also there is a steddie sideplot, imma talk abt it in a second)
But Steve is hers and she is Steve's first and she doesn't want to leave him, can't imagine, feels like leaving half of her body and it's not fair, but also can't take it upon herself to ask him to leave with her because she doesn't think she can handle it if he says no
And so like the fic would starts in late April/early may and Robin is trying so hard with holding the ones she has so close because she's going to leave and she's trying to grasp on the last crumbles of her teenage years and onto her relationship with Vicky and throughout all of this Nancy is this constant that just is there, steady, safe and becoming actually one of her best friends
And it surprises her, because it was easy to be friends with Eddie once they bonded over being gay and also caring for Steve, it was somewhat comfortable to have a budding relationship with Jonathan and Argyle, caring for the kids came with caring for Steve because they are somewhat also a part of him and he is part of her so they are also hers but Nancy always was so unreachable, so far away so untouchable, except she wasn't
Except she was there inviting Robin to sleepovers and over milkshakes and stupid diners and going over college application with her and talking about Steve and Jonathan and Eddie with fondness because these are their boys and somehow Nancy has become an integral part of Robin's life
And so a lot of the first part of the fic is Robin trying to hold onto all those things before she moves to college
And then Vicky breaks up with Robin in the middle of july, and it's a nice weather, Robin wishes it was raining and the thing is that even when breaking up with her Vicky is just so sweetly nice, so perfect and Robin wishes she could hate her, that she could be mad, but she only feels sad, so incredibly fucking sad, it feels like something that she saw coming, because she did, she knew it was going to end like this, but even when breaking up with her Vicky wasn't mean, was nice enough to tell Robin, to lie, she just doesn't want to do long distance
it's when Steve is comforting her abt the break up that Robin ask him to come with her, she already had her heart ripped out once today, it's a little bit self-destructing, it's maybe her punishing herself for her codependency that in her eyes cost her her relationship, but he says yes, is ecstatic, because wherever she goes he won't hesitate to follow, they are a package deal after all, somehow they also rope Eddie into it and it makes sense, it makes sense to leave with both Steve and Eddie that have become such vital parts of her, steve is an extension of her outside of her body, but Eddie is someone who understands and fits between the spaces that she and Steve leave behind seamlessly, it would make sense to leave and take them with her
quiet interlude to explain the steddie side plot because it's now kind of necessary
so i have this in mind that like steve knows he's bi before the whole vecna, he figured it out with robin after starcourt
and robin already feels like having one other queer person in hawkings is extraordinary but then vecna happens and eddie joins the crew, eddie with his bandana, eddie with his big boy and chains and jokes and attitude and robin and steve argue back and forth if he is queer or not, while also steadily forming a friendship with him and it's just robin wants him to be so bad, because a part of her feels like eddie understands the queer parts of her that steve bless him never could, bc steve somehow could hide behind the heteronormality but robin and eddie never had a choice, they were always too weird, too different for that, but robin is afraid, it's steve, brave steve that ends up coming out to eddie first in a comment that he plays of as nonchalant but robin sees right through him, he's afraid and yet, and yet he barrels through, holds himself under eddie's gaze and is brave because that what steve is, brave
and so they're my three queer best friends and i love them
Also this is once again me pushing Steve is a brave, beautiful boi agenda
and robin sees how eddie looks at steve and steve at eddie and she thinks that maybe steve just is oblivious (i mean after they all came out to each other, thanks to steve) but then she talks to steve about it
and the thing is that steve knows that eddie wants him, that he's attracted to him, but steve actually fucking likes eddie, might actually fucking love him
and after the whole being bullshit and all the girls that went out with him because they wanted king steve and not steve he doesn't know, doesn't trust himself to know if eddie likes him the same way
He doesn't trust himself to not be bullshit again
and eddie is a bit of coward, like let's face it, that boy is ready to pine his whole life for steve harrington if it gets him to just exist in his space
and so steve just doesn't let himself have this
because he would rather to have him as a friend than an ex-hookup and he couldn't have handled it if that's all what eddie wanted to be, so they're like tragically pinning, they're my idiots you honor
So then the summer is ending and so they organize a party to celebrate the last days they have together, the whole party and when there is only a spicy six left Robin, my baby comes out as a lesbian!! And she's so afraid of Nancy's reaction, but Nancy, beautiful, kind, stubborn Nancy just takes her hand and says with a smile that she's glad that she told them and her smile is beautiful, happy and Robin feels like a weight is lifted off of her because now, now she doesn't feel like she might lose her friendship with Nancy too, because she was so afraid that once Nancy will know, it will be the end of them, it's why she waiting until both of them are going away, until the pain of missing her won't be as visible because Nancy isn't supposed to be there with her anyway
So after that
Nancy ofc goes to NY
Robin, Steve and Eddie somehow land in Chicago and my boy Eddie is a mechanic for sure bc i love the idea, Robin ofc will be studying and I haven't decided what Steve will be doing
And Jonathan and Argyle will stay in Hawkins, taking their gap year
Robin thinks it's partly why Steve wasn't as afraid to come with her, knowing Jon will be there keeping an eye on Hawkins, on the kids, because it's not that Steve doesn't trust Joyce and Hopper but he doesn't trust them to call them when things go bad, and kids are always too preoccupied to call when things go wrong and he trust, trusts Jon to call when things go code red in Hawkins, also i think Jon deserves a gap year, let that boy relax please
And so Nancy calls, all of them do actually, the kids and Jonathan with Argyle, I kind of like to think that like sometimes all three Robin and Steve and Eddie are gathered around the phone talking with whoever calls, like Steve is painting Robin's nails while listening to Eddie and Jon arguing about some music thing on the phone while Robin keeps adding her opinion only to stir shit up even more and sometimes it's Eddie and Steve parenting Dustin while Robin just lays next to them doing her school assignments
But Nancy calls when she also knows Robin is just there alone, Nancy calls and asks her about Chicago and college and it's good, it's good talking with her
Also I have this scene in my head where Nancy and Robin talk about Barb, it's late and Robin is alone in the apartment, Eddie and Steve gone somewhere together and Nancy is talking about how sometimes she finds it hard, knowing that Barb probably wouldn't have recognized her now, that she changed, grew up and she isn't the same person that Barb was friends with anymore (my personal headcanon is that Nancy didn't even want to be a journalist before Barb's death, but after seeing how they covered it up, how the press twisted and manipulated the truth she wanted to be the one good one, for Barb, a sense of justice paid to her through others, it's why she wanted the facts for Eddie so hard)
And Robin asks her how she deals with it and Nancy says that she just has to, it won't go anywhere, she won't stop aging, "besides" she says "eddie recently told me something and, don't tell him that, but it was actually pretty smart"
"Impressive for him" Nancy giggles and it's good to know her giggles make her feel the same feeling of accomplishment even through the phone
"Anyway, he told me that we survived so we could change. That we are the lucky ones that get to change, dead people don't change. So it's good, to sometimes, become something new"
And it sticks with Robin and she somehow that leads her to asking Steve to cut her hair even shorter because hair holds memory and she wants to have space for new ones, the good ones, she wants to see them grow (one of this days I will think of a sapphic idea that doesn't involve hair, i swear, but today is not the day) also both Robin and Steve dye a strand of their hair pink, for platonic soulmate unity reasons
so anyway chicago is good, good for her and Steve and Eddie and they're thriving and they're finding queer bars and are growing up, becoming adults together and like Robin manages to hook up with a girl and meet more queer people, grow into herself and there a set backs and bad days, like once a girl started roleplaying a cop as a part of foreplay and asked "where do you work" in a voice that reminded Robin too much of the russians and the torture, she cried for an hour and a half on the girl's floor, before she managed to exhaust herself and only then she managed to give out their number so the girl could call Steve to pick her up, she cried in Stevie's arms the whole night after that because she just felt broken like yes she could move, she could grow up, she could experience new things but the trauma will always be a part of her
and so then! we have like two important seeing nancy moments
one where everybody comes back to hawkings for smh idk if will be holidays or smh or smh different, but even if nancy and robin called on a regular it's the first time she's seeing her since they went away for college and during that time robin finally catches up to nancy and realizes she's in love with her
But she thinks it's hopeless because Nancy hasn't yet came out to Robin (in my mind Eddie helped her in figuring it out during summer, she came out to Jon in the meantime after moving but before this coming home and during the stay in Hawkins she will come out to Steve but it will be unnecessary bc honestly Steve suspected that Nancy liked Robin since fucking the first words of the fic) and so Robin pulls away
Also during this visit is when she asks Wayne how he dealt with dating people after going to war, did he ever manage to separate his trauma and his dating life and he tells her that there are people who will understand and love her with her trauma not despite of her (with like a heavy look towards Nancy bc Uncle Wayne knows what the fuck is up)
Oh also per Chicago being good for the boys, it's where Steve finally allows himself to be loved, it's where they come home to each other, it's where they stay with each other, it's where they slow dance together in the kitchen, it's where Steve realizes that Eddie is here to stay, when Steve tells Robin he kissed Eddie over dinner, they both cry, simply because they are happy, Robin is so glad that Steve finally, finally is happy and healthy and is letting himself be loved how he deserves
and then we have a second time where the whole spicy six gather in New york to celebrate with nancy i'm thinking maybe new year??
and then nancy comes out as a lesbian and like than robin realizes what nancy was doing all this time, she realizes that they are steve and eddie (because eddie has waited, all this time until steve was ready, was right beside him when steve blossomed into someone who could trust that eddie wants him back, eddie waited and nancy... nancy waited too) and it's like the both of them go to bed together ofc and robin has this like feeling of, they had time, they finally have time, and they could take it in whatever pace they want, this like finality of feeling that they are finally on the same page and the rest is like fluff
Also something something Nancy belonging to NY and being even more beautiful somewhere where she is healthy and happy and thriving, something something about rosy cheeks and long coats and frosty kisses
So i guess i just want Robin to like grow into herself and who she is in relationships and have experience and grow comfortable in herself before she let herself love Nancy, i want them to be friends first and also i want the slow burn of it all

headcanon "Remember, if we get caught I'm deaf and you don't speak English."
personally i see it as more of a stobin thing than steddie, but ill love whatever you come up with
Okay but what if it’s both 😈
Sneaking into Eddie’s trailer was proving more difficult than they expected.
Wayne wasn’t home, but Eddie was asleep in his bed, dead silence making it impossible for them to even use the spare key to open the front door without being heard.
“I thought you said he slept with music playing.”
“He does! I swear he does!”
Robin sighed as she eyed the window in the bathroom.
“Okay, we’re gonna need to steal a ladder.”
“Robin! What?”
“If we get caught, you’re deaf and I don’t speak English, got it?”
“What the hell are you-“
Robin was running towards the work truck of one of Eddie’s neighbors, aiming her flashlight at the lock holding the ladder on the side of it.
“It’s not even locked. Amazing. It’s not stealing if it’s not locked.”
“Pretty sure it’s stealing if it doesn’t belong to you whether it’s locked or not.”
He couldn’t see Robin’s face, but he knew she was rolling her eyes.
He didn’t want to get caught, so he helped her, lifted the ladder quietly from the rack it was on and carried it back to the trailer.
He set it up as quietly as possible, shushing Robin when she tried whispering to him about it’s placement.
“Swear to god Robin, if you don’t stop talking he’s-“
“He’s what? Gonna wake up and see you breaking into his house?”
Steve nearly dropped the ladder.
“Eddie!”
“Oh my god. What happened to being deaf? I cannot trust you on a heist.”
Steve glared at Robin for a moment before walking up to the porch where a mostly asleep Eddie was standing.
“You have a key.”
“Yes.”
“And you could’ve called.”
“Yes.”
“So why are you breaking and entering?”
Robin joined them and sighed.
“Steve was coming to steal your hoodie back. He said he left it here a few days ago and he can’t sleep without it.”
“Robin! That was between us!”
Eddie was too busy smirking to interrupt.
“Well! We’ve been found out anyway!”
“You two are terrible at this.”
“He’s terrible at this, I was doing great!”
“Really? Your voice is what woke me up.”
Robin shrunk away with a frown and Steve crossed his arms, smiling.
“May I come in?”
“You both may since it’s the middle of the night and freezing and neither of you are dressed for this adventure.”
Steve and Robin ended up spending the night, heist ruined.
But Steve didn’t need the hoodie if he had Eddie.

How to define a dingus
Prompt Day 17 – Platonic Stobin | Rating: T | CW: None | Tags: humour, clueless and pining Steve, Robin's turn with the braincell, steddie end-game, requited love | WC: 986 For @steddieholidaydrabbles
🔔📼🔔📼🔔
“Steve,” Robin says, holding his head between her palms, directing him away from the sight of Eddie driving away in his van. Her brows are furrowed and voice determined, “Steve-ing-ton.”
Steve’s own brows rise, a crinkle above the face she holds stationary like he’ll escape if she doesn’t pin him down. “Yes, Robington?”
A crash of VHS cases sound to the left of him and he’s able to turn just enough to see a toddler running with their hand outstretched by the lower shelves before Robin jerks him back, her blue eyes staring him down intently.
“Do you know what a dingus is?” The bell above the Family Video door rings as more people pour in and Steve shifts restlessly on his feet.
It’s Friday afternoon, the place is busy as everyone prepares for the weekend, and he’s pretty sure that a different kid is licking the storefront windows from the outside. “Me?” He answers, hoping that she’ll release him soon.
“Yes. But no,” she retorts mysteriously. A woman calls for their attention in front of the counter, but Robin stays focused. “A dingus is a bit of an idiot.” Steve scoffs and rolls his eyes.
“Unfortunately clueless.” He tilts his head back as far as he’s allowed, groaning over the sound of the woman asking for them again.
“But overall, a dingus is loveable.” He stops, squinting at her while he waits for the other shoe to drop. “Thank you?” He says.
“Excuse me.”
They turn in unison, Robin’s hands still attached to Steve’s cheeks and the woman takes a step back as if made nervous by their sudden attention. She clears her throat and adjusts her acid wash jean jacket. “My son wants to hire Gremlins but Marcy Burgess said that it’s obscene. What’s the rating on it.”
They both look down at the case in her hands, on it a man holds a white shoebox with a creature peaking out from inside. At the top right corner, a large sticker says PG.
“Pheobe Cates,” Steve whispers from the side of his mouth. “I know,” she hisses back, elbowing him sharply out of the way to help the woman.
It’s over an hour later, as Steve swipes the barcodes on the back of the recently returned films, that Robin turns her attention back to him.
“A dingus,” she starts with no introduction, taking off from where they had left the conversation earlier, “Is loveable enough that he can probably get away with accidently spurning the object of his affection.”
Steve frowns, grabbing the cleaning spray to wipe off the mysterious spill on The Shop Around the Corner. “I did what now?” He asks patiently, scrubbing at the plastic.
“Eddie,” she says, “The whole…” She waves her hand in the air and Steve dodges just in time, “Thing with the ring.”
Steve just shakes his head at her, uncomprehending. Eddie had visited earlier, a lovely distraction before the customers had started tumbling in. But then Eddie is always a lovely distraction, even if Steve can’t tell him that outright.
It’s a nice fantasy though, he thinks. Maybe taking Eddie by the hand, telling him that he’s sweet and funny just to watch the pink rise to his cheeks.
He sighs, wiping his hands on his jeans. But that’s all it is, a fantasy. They’re friends and, sure, every time Eddie calls him sweetheart or baby or throws his arm over the back of the couch behind Steve, it makes his heart pound, fast and hard enough that he usually misses half of the conversations around him until he starts to calm down. But that’s Eddie, he’s demonstrative and affectionate with everyone, and Steve’s just a friend.
“The ring,” she groans, her bracelets rattling as she throws both hands up in the air this time. “You mean the one I tried on,” Steve supplies.
“Yes,” she says sharply, grabbing his left hand by the ring finger and wagging it in front of his face. “And what did Eddie say after you said how nice his jewellery makes his hands look?”
Steve shrugs, “Something a little new, from me to you. What do you think?” Thankfully she doesn’t point out how sad it is that he listens so closely to Eddie that he can quote him verbatim.
“While he pushed his new one onto your left ring finger,” Robin’s eyes bore into him.
Steve remembers, it’d had a silver bat on it and when Eddie slipped it on Steve’s finger all he could think about was how nearly empty Eddie’s eyes had looked when they'd found him covered in blood in the Upside Down. He’d hidden his shudder but could still feel how uneasy his smile had been when he’d replied that it wasn’t his style.
He blinks.
Robin nods, correctly guessing that the cogs have finally turned.
“He was hitting on me,” Steve breathes, body going hot then cold from the realisation that he’d essentially told Eddie that he’s not his style. “Oh shit.”
“Uh-huh,” Robin hums affirmatively.
“Christ,” Steve tugs his hair in horror.
“Dingus!” Robin grips his shoulders, shaking him out of his fugue. “Go!”
Steve frantically swings his gaze around the store, knowing that he’s still got half of his shift left and he’ll be leaving Robin alone and suddenly overwhelmed at the thought that Eddie’s not going to want to see him again.
“You’ll never know unless you talk to him,” Robin says and Steve realises that he’d verbalised his thoughts. “Go!” She orders him and Steve goes. He scrambles to the car and drives like a bat out of hell to finally pound on Eddie’s trailer door.
Eddie swings open the screen, looking down at him warily. “They’re my style,” Steve blurts out. “Love them, want to see them all the time, want them forever,” he hastily pleads.
Eddie slowly smiles and steps back, gesturing for Steve to follow him in.

more stobin head canons bc i miss my fav bff’s so much
they’re so attached to each other that people think they’re siblings
steve basically got adopted by robin’s family so they might as well be siblings
steve actually loves being robin’s “brother” bc he’s an only child and his parents aren’t around much
he’s also very close w robin’s parents
steve drives robin everywhere and anywhere
he claims to hate it
but actually loves it
they absolutely scream to every song on the radio and once the song ends they just deadpan to each other
robin plays around with steve’s hair
they get matching tattoos
they share pronouns
and share clothes
steve suggests as a joke to do robin’s makeup one day
and it actually comes out really good??
and then robin decides to do steve’s makeup
they go to a corroded coffin concert in said makeup
robin witnesses steve bi panic irl
she doesn’t let him live it down for the rest of the night bc omg steve has a crush on eddie munson
but!!!!!
nancy is at the concert to take photos and steve does not let robin live down her reaction to nancy’s version of punk makeup to blend in with the crowd
“i don’t have a crush on nancy, steve!”
“i give you full permission to date my ex!”
“no that’s against best friend code!!”
and basically they go back and forth
nancy and eddie hear this entire conversation and don’t say anything
anyways
modern!stobin play just dance
robin is always the guy and steve is always the girl
modern!steve takes robin to a girl in red concert
have i mentioned they’re roomates?
because if not
they’re roomates
they’re actually annoyingly attached to each other. i’ve already mentioned this but you just don’t get it. it’s rare to see them apart all bc they’ve become very codependent on each other
i feel like this is all over the place but stay with me please my brain is just coming up with other things
cooking with stobin is always a trip
they mostly make pasta dishes bc that’s robin’s safe food and steve is picky
eddie and vickie (or nancy) get a tiny little bit jealous at the bond steve and robin have bc while they’re their partners, nothing can beat their platonic soulmatism
steve is very patient with robin and makes sure that she knows that
robin gets insecure that steve will find her annoying when info dumping, having sensory issues or is just struggling to process stuff
and steve always confirms that he doesn’t care and will always be there for them when needed
i think i’ve already mentioned that they share clothes
but
that doesn’t just mean, like, robin taking steve’s hoodies
i mean steve wears (actually stole) all of robin’s three skirts that she has, robin takes steve’s shirts, they share jewelry, sweatshirts, etc
robin encourages steve to let out her feminine side and steve encourages robin to let out their masculine side
gender-fluid stobin real
steddie and rockie/ronance double dates are actually an excuse for steve and robin to hang out with each other and also their partners
i think that’s healthy
anyways that’s all i have for now

If you're doing the "send me a pairing and a number and i'll write you a drabble", then I'm curious about 31 and steddie or platonic stobin! ❤️
Ooooooooooh yall ready for my 1st major character death? I wasn't.
The dust was settling. Vecna was gone. A cautious sense of relief was washing over everyone except for one. Robin ran as fast as her feet would take her. Steve was still lying on the ground, near the enormous beast that he'd slain, what Dustin and the others had started to call a demodragon.
He even had that dumb sword in his hand. And was smiling like he wasn't bleeding out. Robin took the sword away and tossed it to the side. He didn't need it anymore, they were done fighting.
"Steve? Steve?!"
Robin fell to his side, she was afraid of where to touch. There was so much blood. More than she'd ever seen coming from him and her heart broke thinking of all the times she'd seen him beat up. He didn't answer, but his lips were still split in a red, leaking grin.
"You're gonna be okay, we'll get you all patched up and everything's gonna be fine, okay!?"
Steve choked out a laugh, coughing up blood in the process. "You're a terrible liar, Robs."
"You lied to me", Robin said, voice watery. "You said we could win. You said we would make it. 'We', that's what you said."
"Sorry", Steve said, looking truly apologetic like he had any control over whether he stayed or went.
Robin knew she was crying when she saw droplets falling on Steve's face. She couldn't look away or even blink. It felt like if she took her eyes off him, he'd be gone. But she heard someone running towards them and looked up to see the others coming for them. She looked back at Steve and let out a sob.
Send me a pairing and a number for a drabble

“Look alive, Dingus.”
Robin turns around to Steve and pats him square in the chest. He perks up, even though his best friend turns straight back to the entryway of The Hideout to wave at Jeff. He thinks it would be easier if Robin’s head were on a literal swivel with the way she has been whipping back and forth for the past hour.
Steve grumbles into his beer, pushing through the burn in his throat that still lingers years later as he laments the lack of Eddie following behind his bandmate.
He knows they had arrived too early for Corroded Coffin’s show, but Robin’s summer break from teaching came just in time – sue him for needing to spend every possible moment with his best friend.
Though he’d decided as soon as Robin announced her return to Hawkins that he wouldn’t mention the flowers he ripped up in haste in the back garden last week.
He’d done so straight after arriving home from the real estate agent, head hung in shame as he fully accepted yet another hard thunk on the head courtesy of Nancy Wheeler.
Well, it wasn’t so much a thunk this time as it was what Steve might consider, ‘divine intervention’.
He was in the backyard, tending to his small and still very much intact flower garden when a piece of guttering fell clean from the house, smashing through the window of the spare bedroom Nancy was using as her office – a room they’d falsely promised each other would be used for an entirely different reason.
But, much like his childhood home (which endured a mighty crack right through that cursed goddamn pool during Spring Break of ‘86), Steve found himself existing in a not-so-perfect house. One that grew increasingly cold as years of Upside Down dust and fog and smoke cooled Hawkins’s atmosphere.
A house that, with a broken and rusted gutter pipe, decided to remind them that shouldn’t – couldn’t – be playing house.
That’s all it really was: a pretend white picket fence dream that isn’t what Steve had meant by his vision of vacationing with a brood of Harringtons, Nancy by his side.
A dream that Nancy never wanted and got dragged into until her office window smashed in.
A dream that Steve thought was dead and buried the day Nancy rightfully picked through shards of glass for her things and left.
Buried until Eddie called him, saying that he had been talking to Robin (because of course, they kept tabs on him). He said the band would be back in town and that Steve and Robin should meet them.
And so, with a few beers warming his belly, burning his throat and sending a prickling sensation up his scar-covered sides, Steve found that nagging hope bubble up again.
He shakes his head, scoffing at his hopeless self as the sound of rhythm and blues music over the bar’s jukebox almost drowns out Jeff’s and Robin’s chattering.
Maybe he should be talking himself out of it. Finally acknowledging that years-old fleeting something between him and Eddie.
But he wants it.
And Lord knows he acts on a mere fleeting feeling.
Maybe history won’t repeat itself this time. Maybe the rusted gutter was one last divine thunk.
Maybe it won’t just be a first date. Or meaningless sex. Or bullshit.
He should have known that love with Nancy – a love long sucked down his old pool drain along with Barb Holland’s life – couldn’t prosper in the aftermath of an almost apocalypse.
They thought they were supposed to try, is the thing.
Staying in Hawkins. Keeping things at bay. Watching. Perhaps waiting for it all to come back.
But then it didn’t.
It all just lingered.
And they were left to pick up the pieces.
Right mistakes.
Move on.
They just didn’t need to do it together.
Steve pivots on his barstool, leaning an elbow on the bar top to get a better (hopefully seemingly more casual) view of the entryway.
He has seen Eddie over the years. Every Christmas at the Hendersons, sporadic visits home, a phone call here and there. The band hadn’t exactly made it big – at all, really. But they made enough to move around. Tour. Always returning to The Hideout for a one-off Tuesday Night gig as if nothing changed.
Steve looks around, thinking there might be three more drunks than the last show –
And there he is.
Eddie enters the bar with Gareth and George in tow and Steve swears a summer breeze flows in with him.
He looks good. Leather-clad as always. Pants impossibly tight. Jacket chains jangling. His hair still a river of wild curls.
But Steve sinks back on his seat as the trio makes a beeline for the stage, Eddie’s bright eyes turning into a dark frown as he orders the boys about, barely carrying a thing himself.
He probably had some theatrical excuse about his outfit, punctuated by manic hand gestures and a pout or two.
Steve watches as they dump their equipment by the one-step platform, each maneuver creating cacophonous thuds that reverberate through the bar. Jeff grimaces at the sight before shooting an apologetic glance at the manager and barkeep. The boys always did saddle him with sweet-talking the staff.
“Someone’s eager,” Robin teases, catching Steve’s smirk.
Jeff quirks a brow and stifles a smile.
“Shut up,” Steve chuckles into his glass before he downs the last of his beer.
“Eddie is really excited to see you, man,” Jeff nods, offering a nonchalant shrug just as Eddie begins making his way towards them.
Steve’s heart quickens.
There’s that something.
A something that is reflected in the glint in Eddie’s eyes as he smiles wide and waves.
Steve wiggles his fingers in greeting, shaking his head at himself almost instantly causing a lock of his hair to flop out of place.
George not-at-all subtly drags Gareth in Jeff’s direction.
“Over here, Gare,” Robin commands loudly through gritted teeth.
“Hey, Steve,” Eddie says, his voice low as he steps forward to stand just close enough that yeah, Steve decides to roll with that hope again.
He reaches up to comb a hand through his hair but Eddie gets there first.
“Sucks about Wheeler, babydoll,” Eddie continues, allowing his fingers to scrape his scalp, carefully looking him over as he does so.
Eddie always is too much.
Everything.
A lot. All at once.
Seeing him.
Steve hums and Eddie soon stops, an embarrassed set of dimples dotting his cheeks as he likely thinks better of it given their current location.
“It was... all a mistake,” Steve admits, taking Eddie’s retreating hand.
He intertwines ring-adorned fingers with his own, refusing to let go of the hope tethering them, ready to start again.

STWG daily prompt 5/10/23
Prompt: quiet
Pairing: Steddie, platonic Stobin, and Eddie/Robin friendship
Subject: unexpected child, Steve has bad parents.
When Eddie came bounding up the driveway he was thinking he'd get to see Steve, cause some chaos while making his boy smile, and snuggle up all night. What he wasn't expecting was to get there, and as she opened the door be cornered by Robin who immediately shushed him, pulling him back outside for a moment.
"What's going on Birdie? Why did you kidnap me back outside?" Eddie was staring at Robin now, who was biting her thumbnail.
"Look, uh, something unexpected happened this morning and well, I don't really know how to say this." Robin was rambling, "Ok, so uh, so there's a baby in the house. And well you know Steve's parents are horrible but we haven't even heard from them since spring break of last year, and then today this girl showed up. Well, anyway Steve apparently now is responsible for his little sister, the girl is two years old and they're just now dumping her on him?! I mean, could they not find his dad, why Steve? Why is it always Steve?"
Eddie just stood next to Robin, his arms wrapped around his torso, rocking back on his heels as he stared up into the cloudy sky, "You, know. He's lucky has you Birdie. But if you bringing me outside was warning because you thought I'd run-"
"I know you're not going to. If you break his heart I'll make you wish those bats finished the job Munson, and you know it."
"Yeah, I know Bucks. I love him. No matter what baggage comes with that I'm not letting him go, I hope I can talk him into leaving this Podunk town, maybe bring you with us, we can move to Indianapolis, or God I don't know, just somewhere far from Hawkins. The kids are all leaving, you know. I heard they Byers are all going back to California and Hopper is of course following his family. The Sinclair's apparently are fostering Max and moving them all to Chicago since Max's mom can't be found, and Dustin and his mom said wherever we go she'll move Dusty close by. The Wheelers are apparently moving down to Texas, something about Ted's father owns a ranch and they need a fresh start anyway. Just, let's go be with our boy, be whatever he needs right now and we can figure out everything else later." Eddie knew he just rambled for too long, but he needed Robin to know this wasn't spur of the moment. This was something he wanted, and if Robin needed to come so Steve was there he was thrilled. He loved them both.
They walked quietly back in being sure to make no noise, and they rounded the corner to Steve singing softly to his sister holding her close as she slept. Eddie knew in that moment, he was going to marry this man and that little girl would know nothing but true unconditional love for all of her life. He quietly sat next to Steve on one side while Robin took the other, and together they just watched the newest angel of their little family as she held on to her big brother even in her sleep.

Saying All the Painful Parts Out Loud
Platonic Stobin, hurt/comfort, Steddie (but just discussed)
Two weeks post saving the world found Steve and Robin on the floor of his en-suite, their sides pressed close together and faces streaked with tears. Somehow bathrooms had become the designated coming out spot— whether it be dirty public restrooms or cold and impersonal private ones.
“Robin?”
“Yeah, Steve?”
“I don’t know if I’m ready to tell him.”
They were quiet for a moment, letting the confession sit in the air.
“You don’t have to do it if you’re not ready, Steve. This is something new and scary for you— it’s okay to need more time,” she assured him, knocking her head against his shoulder.
Steve sighed.
“I think I do, though,” he started. “Rob, I— I think he’s leaving.”
She sat up to look at him.
“Why, did he tell you he was gonna?”
“Last night, when we were hanging out in his van he just… he seemed so defeated. He said the town just kept kicking him while he was down and he doesn’t know how much longer he can deal with it all.”
Robin hummed thoughtfully.
“I mean, I can’t really blame the guy.” She saw him flinch. “But Steve, if you do tell him soon, can you promise me something?”
It was Steve’s turn to look at her, brow furrowed in confusion.
“What?”
“Just, be careful, okay?”
“What, with Eddie?”
“I mean, yes. He’s our friend and I care about him, but I meant be careful with you, Dingus.”
Steve just looked more confused.
“I mean, what are you going to do if he still decides to leave? Even after you tell him?”
She watched his face fall, could feel a lump forming in her throat. “Steve, you wear your heart on your sleeve and you love so wholly. It’s one of the things I love most about you, but I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
Steve opened his mouth to argue but she pushed on. “And I know it’ll still hurt if he leaves without you telling him. It’ll be a whole different kind of hurt. But I don’t want you thinking that you weren’t enough. Because you are, Steve. You are more than enough. You’re everything.” She felt a tear drip down her cheek and gripped his hand tightly. “You’re everything to me. To the kids. And if that’s not enough to make him stay, that’s not on you. Okay?”
Steve stared at her, eyes wide and wet.
“O-okay,” he whispered, voice cracking. “I love you so much, Robbie. You’re my favorite person, you know?”
She nodded and pulled him closer to her, nearly into her lap as he cried.
“I know, Steve. I love you too. So much.”

Chapter 6: More Minds
Steve was finishing a large mug of coffee and Eddie was stuffing the last pop tart into his face when the doorbell rang. They’d both managed to use the bathroom, throw on full sets of clothes, inhale a whole packet of pop tarts and drink enough caffeine to float an ocean liner in the twenty minutes it had taken the others to arrive. All under Robin’s watchful eye.
Eddie tried to say something, but he currently looked like a chipmunk, so his communication was mostly in crumbs. Steve was pretty sure he shouldn’t be finding it as adorable as he was.
“You finish up,” he said, following Robin into the main living area as she headed for the door.
It was fully dark now, so he switched on a few lights to distract himself from what was about to happen.
“Robin,” he heard Hopper greet with his usual gruff tone. “So, what’s going on?”
“Is it the Upside Down?” El asked and Steve felt an instant stab of guilt at the worry in the girl’s voice.
“You said it wasn’t code red,” Dustin joined in.
“Come in and find out,” Robin invited.
She wasn’t as annoyed with him anymore, but clearly, she was a little bit. Steve braced for whatever came next.
“Harrington,” Hopper said, as the man spotted him.
“Hop,” he replied with a nod.
“What’s this about?” Hopper asked.
“I’m guessing it’s time for my dramatic entrance,” came from behind him before he could put together anything to say.
“Eddie!”
Dustin’s voice was high and very, very loud. Steve winced. Under other circumstances it might have been hilarious.
“Hi,” was as articulate as Eddie managed.
It was such a far cry from the predator that had climbed through his window the previous night, Steve had to sit on the urge to peck Eddie on the cheek. Not an impulse he had ever thought he’d be fighting with.
He stepped to the side to avoid being clocked one by Dustin as the kid launched himself at Eddie with barely a thought under his cap as far as Steve could tell.
“Hey, Henderson,” Eddie said, but returned the hug Dustin was giving him.
“How?” Dustin wanted to know as soon as they pulled apart.
“Bats, Vecna, Steve, in that order,” Eddie replied, which had everyone looking at Steve.
“What did you do?” Dustin demanded with all his usual tact.
“Let’s sit down,” he said, waving at the two couches and various chairs, “this might take a while.”
Hopper was clearly very tense, steering El and then Dustin to one of the couches, while Steve, Eddie and Robin took up the other one with Steve in the middle.
“Well?” Hopper prompted once everyone was settled.
Steve took a deep breath.
“I’ve been having bad dreams,” he confessed, since he figured plain fact would work best. “Seeing through someone’s eyes as they attacked people in Hawkins, but when I checked everyone was fine, not a mark on them, so I assumed they were nightmares.”
“He’s been telling me about them,” Robin added, “and I agreed.”
He gave her a small smile of thanks.
“So, what changed?” Hopper asked.
“I finally realised who’s eyes I was seeing through,” he replied, “and it felt so real I reached back. Eddie came to me last night when I called him.”
“You’ve been attacking people?” Hopper said, glaring at Eddie.
“He wasn’t thinking straight,” Steve defended immediately. “And he didn’t really hurt them, or I would’ve realised sooner.”
“Why?” El asked, giving Eddie a contemplative look.
Rather than explain, Eddie opened his mouth and let his fangs descend.
“Holy sh..crap,” Hopper said, half stepping in front of the other couch.
“But vampires aren’t an Upside Down thing,” Dustin countered with a frown.
“That’s what I thought,” Steve muttered quietly.
“I think it was a joke,” Eddie said, playing with his rings, “one Vecna picked out of my head. He called me Kas.”
Steve did not get it, but it was clear that Dustin did.
“Who’s Kas?” Robin asked.
“A character from DnD,” Dustin said. “He was a vampire, Vecna’s lieutenant who betrayed him, killing him with a magic sword.”
“So, you think he made you a vampire because he thought it was funny?” Hopper sounded incredulous.
“He probably thought it would scare us too,” Dustin added. “Eddie was our friend and Vecna turned him into a monster.”
“It sounds like something Henry might do,” El agreed.
“But then why didn’t he throw you at us in the final battle?” Steve asked, because none of them had seen anything of Eddie the last time they had gone in.
Eddie shrugged.
“Sorry,” he said, “none of that time makes much sense in my head. I don’t know where I was or what I was doing, just that Vecna was in control. About the only thing I do know is I didn’t have a magic sword and I didn’t have anything to do with killing him.”
“Steve’s right though,” Dustin said, much to Steve’s surprise, “it doesn’t make sense he didn’t use you against us. He used Jason.”
“Jason?” Eddie asked.
“He was disintegrated when the rifts opened through town after he almost got Max killed,” Dustin explained before anyone else could get there. “We thought he was dead, but he’d been transported to the Upside Down and merged with the local wildlife, becoming part of the hive mind. He was kind of half Demogorgon when we went in to get Vecna. Steve got him with a Molotov and his bat.”
Steve tried not to shy away from the long hard stare Eddie turned on him at that revelation. He couldn’t be one hundred percent sure, but he thought Eddie might have been impressed.
“He deserved it,” Robin said.
“Of that I have no doubt,” Eddie said, finally looking away from him. “Makes it even weirder that I was nowhere to be seen.”
El stood up, stepping around her dad. The pair shared a look and Hopper’s shoulders sagged in resignation. With a small smile, she walked over to stand in front of Eddie. She held out her hands.
“May I?” she asked.
Eddie looked surprised for a moment before biting his lip nervously and nodding his head. Steve watched as Eddie reached out and took El’s hands in his own. El folded herself down onto the floor in front of Eddie before closing her eyes. Eddie closed his as well a moment later.
There wasn’t much to see except for El’s forehead crinkling in a frown as she concentrated.
When Eddie twitched, Steve had to hold himself back from reaching out. He knew he couldn’t interfere, but all his protective instincts were firing. When Eddie made a quiet little gasping sound it was even harder.
Just as a small trickle of blood began to run from El’s nose, her eyes snapped open.
“You did help defeat him,” she said, a smile blooming onto her face. “He did try to send you after us, but you wouldn’t go. You were supposed to lead the bats, but he had to rip you out of the hive mind when you refused. I think that’s why you don’t remember. It almost killed you again.”
Eddie was blinking at her as if trying to make his eyes focus. Now Steve let himself reach out, placing a hand on Eddie’s arm.
“I did?” Eddie asked, confusion colouring his words.
El nodded.
“Go me?!” Eddie said, clearly still dazed from his encounter with El’s abilities.
“I’m still not clear on how we got from attacks on people to this,” Hopper said, still giving Eddie a stern stare.
“Because of the bat bites, we’re connected,” Steve stepped in to give Eddie some more time to recover. “That’s why I was dreaming.”
“I think that is why Henry did not manage to kill Eddie the second time,” El said before he could go on. “The connection to Steve meant the shock of being torn from the hive mind did not kill him.”
“That would make sense,” Robin commented.
“How did you get out of the Upside Down?” Hopper asked.
Eddie shrugged.
“I really don’t remember,” he admitted. “The longer I’ve been here, the clearer things have become, but even some of that is hazy.”
“The stronger the connection became between you and Steve, the more of your brain you got back,” Robin said, as if it made perfect sense to her.
Steve could see how it might be true at least.
“So, you just invited him in and that was it?” Hopper asked, now looking at Steve.
Of course, they both knew that wasn’t true. Steve had put on a sweater with a high collar, but he knew it didn’t cover all the marks.
“I tricked Eddie into biting me,” he said simply, “and I got dragged into his mind. I helped him remember.”
When El held out her hands, Steve took them. They had all learned the hard way they needed to be sure. He closed his eyes and found himself standing in his bedroom the night before. The feeling of Eddie’s fangs going in that first time was just as sharp as it had been in reality, but it only lasted a second, before the memory of being in Eddie’s mind replaced it. He showed El exactly what he had done, and he was thrown out in exactly the same way.
He blinked back to reality, rather than his bedroom, however.
“That was very brave,” El said, never wavering from looking into his eyes.
“It was necessary,” was what Steve chose to say back.
“It was incredibly fu…flipping dangerous,” Eddie countered. “I could have killed you.”
“No, you couldn’t,” he replied, because after what El had said about the connection and the hive mind, Steve was very sure of that.
Eddie opened his mouth, but clearly didn’t know quite what to say.
“Well, I could have hurt you badly,” was what he went with.
“You didn’t hurt anyone else,” Steve pointed out, just like he had the night before.
“Okay, so what was the delay?” Hopper asked. “Why didn’t you call us last night after all this happened?”
Trying desperately not blush, Steve ducked his head.
“We crashed,” Eddie said, apparently much better at lying to Hopper than Steve was. “We didn’t wake up until Robin barged in and found us. Then we called you.”
Hopper was frowning again, but then that was pretty standard for anything to do with the Upside Down. It didn’t look like the older man quite knew how to proceed.
“How’s my uncle?” Eddie asked before Hopper could ask anything else.
“He’s okay,” it was Dustin who jumped in. “He has a new trailer courtesy of the government. We made sure, like we made sure your name was cleared too. The town think there was an earthquake and another chemical leak because of it to explain away people seeing things they shouldn’t have. The murders were blamed on Henry Creel coming back to copycat his dad and they made it look like he was killed in the quake. There was a fake body and everything, like they tried with Will.”
“Wayne doesn’t know about any of this?” was Eddie’s next question.
“We kept him out of it, so he didn’t get hurt,” Dustin explained. “And once it was over, the NDAs meant we couldn’t anymore.”
“Thanks for keeping him safe,” Eddie said, but it was clear that he was thinking about other things as well.
“We’ll have to tell him now,” Robin piped up. “He’ll need to know for Eddie’s sake.”
“We can’t,” Hopper pointed out.
“Eddie can,” Steve said before the others could argue about it.
“But the suits,” Dustin pointed out.
“Eddie didn’t sign anything,” he said simply, “he was dead. He can tell his uncle whatever he likes, and we can just back him up. No broken red tape.”
“Point to Steve,” Robin agreed, nodding her head.
“And Eddie has fangs now, so it’s not like we could just pretend he was lying or anything,” Steve added as he thought about it.
“You sure you’re not a strategist?” Eddie asked with a small grin.
“Nope,” he replied, “that’s them,” and waved at the others. “I just got really good at getting round technicalities when dealing with my dad.”
The expression in Eddie’s eyes at that moment made him think that sentiment had hit home. He didn’t know much about Eddie’s father, but he did remember the whole hotwiring conversation and couldn’t help concluding they were probably both in the having a shitty dad club.
Hopper was rubbing his temples, which meant something was coming.
“Right,” the man finally said and looked at his daughter. “You’re sure he’s safe?”
El nodded and gave her dad another small smile at the same time.
“Then we should do this as fast as possible, before the government boys find out something is going on and try and stop us,” Hopper decided. “Munson, how do you feel about going to visit your uncle now?”
Eddie looked shocked.
“Right now?” he asked, as Steve felt the bottom drop out of his stomach.
“Right now,” Hopper agreed.
“And Wayne won’t get hurt by this?” Eddie checked.
“The Upside Down is shut off,” El said, “and Henry is dead. The danger is over.”
So many emotions flew across Eddie face.
“Then, yeah, I’m good with going now,” he finally said. Steve bit his lip so he didn’t scream an objection. He did not like the thought of Eddie leaving his home at all.

i used to like steddie but tbh its just boring now. everyone writes the same tropes and now there's a/b/o flooding the tag and like fine whatever but it's just so boring. not to mention most fics are so out of character...and don't get me started on how they treat robin, she's completely sidelined it's annoying. they make steve this feminized uwu babygirl and robin into a mean lesbian that contantly berates hi its disgusting!
I'm ngl. Same. Ste/ddie is what got me into the fandom! I still really like the characters a lot but the way fandom has been handling them is just not my thing lol. I like both my Steve and my Eddie a little mean and rough around the edges but carrying and that's just... not what I am seeing at all lol. The fandom trends in this ship have been absolutely wild. Like I said last night, the fic that we were getting in October/November of last year is soooo different from the fic we are getting now.
I miss early days Ste/ddie, the relationship just felt much more balanced? Like both sides brought things to the table? But yeah, I'll admit I've gotten pretty bored with it too. I have a fic or two in my wips folders that I still want to write that have Ste/ddie in them, but I've sort of hit my limit with fandom consumption of it lol.
Omegaverse stuff can be fun on occasion but I'll admit aside from one or two fics I've seen so far, I don't super vibe with it. (Where is my alpha/alpha and omega/omega content!!) Omegaverse has always been a "my hormones are out of whack" fic time for me lmao. But this is one of those things I don't think is ST exclusive, a lot of fandoms I'm in have seen an influx of omegaverse and mpreg lately. I didn't even notice at first because Star Wars fandom is always a mess of kink, but it's legit everywhere now.
Gods yeah, the babygirl Steve was fun at first, I love me a pretty boy. (Anakin Skywalker fan here lmaooo) but yeah it's been taken to an extreme that feels less like oh this is just a little sexy thing on occasion or "yeah gender exploration!" thing, and more either fetishizing or heteronormativity. Like I was talking about yesterday I swear some people write tradwife Steve which is just wild to me. Love househusband Steve but tradwife Steve?? Where am I??
And yeah, even back when I liked the fanon characterization better, Robin so often got sidelined. Literally only there to be a supportive best friend without her own plot or to help further drive Steve into Eddie's arms, which is sad! This show is about friendship first and foremost and it feels like fandom doesn't appreciate that anymore.
(I will be fair though, pushing aside the best friend for the sake of romance is a tried and true shipping thing across many fandoms, but it did feel startling when so many post s3 fics about either of Stobin were about their friendship, and it just kind of all got taken over by shipping fics in s4.)
Like idk, I will say I still like the ship and Eddie but the fandom has definitely exhausted me a bit lol.

I think I’ve already sent you an ask where I discuss it (and this isn’t like me trying to guilt trip you to answer it, I actually am like in constant awe that you are answering this amount of asks at all), but I want to add to steddie bingo: Steve has to “talk it out” with Nancy in order to be with Eddie, usually with him apologizing and her admitting that she really never loved him but it’s also somehow his fault.
Never mind that Nancy and Steve actually have a healthy post break up relationship (maybe too healthy…. Ahem), and it’s also canon that she actually did love him, and that Natalia said that Steve was Nancys first love.
Basically acting like stancy was this big embarrassing mistake and Steve is this phantom bisexual who doesn’t like sex with women, and Nancy is a lesbian that should be with Robin, so that steddie can be the most valid and important relationship in Steve’s life (stobin just doesn’t count, because for these people friendship is less important than romantic relationships).
i have seen it! and sorry i haven’t gotten to it, it just takes me a while to respond to longer asks, and sometimes i forget lol
but yeah, stancy is a big roadblock in a lot of steddie fics, or at least they treat it that way.
like, was the stancy break up a big thing, totally! do i think they need to have a conversation to further their relationship, sure! do i think that conversation has to happen if they just continue to date other people… not really?
atp their relationship is pretty amicable. they work well together to save the world. there doesn’t seem to be any lingering resentment on either side. their issues would have an impact on their romantic relationship, but not so much if they’re just hanging out sometimes lmao.
like you said, people try to overwrite and diminish stancy’s relationship. nancy never loved him, and steve was always a horrible boyfriend, and they never had good days, and steve never loved nancy like he loves eddie now, and it wasn’t a serious relationship. because they need to pave the way for r/nance and steddie, and if they acknowledge the importance of that relationship and the effect it truly had on steve and nancy, they can’t fuck other people as soon as possible.
and yes! it’s totally about their current partner being the only important person in their life. because obviously romance is so much more important 🙄

how lovely to love them
for @strangerthingsocweek prompt 'love in every form'
rated t | 909 words | cw: mention of alcohol/being drunk | tags: side steddie, side platonic stobin, meg needs a break, meg gets a break, established relationship
💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Meg looked at Gareth. Then Eddie.
“And you two thought you could just get away with that?”
They looked at each other and back at her.
They shrugged in sync.
“Getting drunk and flipping the furniture of the hotel room upside down.”
They shrugged again.
Meg had a migraine, a Corroded Coffin induced migraine.
“Where was Jeff?”
“His room.”
“That’s why he’s my favorite.”
“You’re lying. We all know Gare Bear here is your favorite,” Eddie said as he pulled Gareth into his side and rubbed his hair. “He just had a little too much tequila.”
“And your excuse?” Meg crossed her arms over her chest, raised an unimpressed brow.
“Steve abandoned me.”
Meg rolled her eyes. “Him and Robin have platonic soulmate night every other Thursday night. You never do this shit. Try again.”
“I had bottom shelf vodka.”
Meg nodded, her worst fear confirmed. “And how did that happen? Who let that happen?”
“I’m not a kid! I just forgot to ask for the better stuff in my drinks and then it was too late,” Eddie protested. “We fixed it; Why are we still in trouble?”
“Because this kinda shit can’t happen again. It’s funny when it happens once, but then a rock band gets blacklisted from all the decent hotels because of what they’ve done in the past.” Meg rubbed her hands over her face and through her hair, taking a deep breath. “This time it’s fine, but if it happens again, you’re on an alcohol ban until the tour is done. Period.”
“But-“
“No!” Meg pulled them both into hugs. “I know it was harmless and you were gonna fix it anyways. I know you guys rarely even drink or do stupid shit like this. But I love you guys and people are stupid about rockstar shit like that. I don’t want you to ruin your careers over something silly.”
Just when she started to pull away, Steve barreled through the door with Robin, Jeff, and Freak behind him.
“What happened?” He asked, rushing to Eddie, pulling him towards him and checking him over for any physical evidence of something being wrong. “I just saw the texts.”
“I’m fine.” Eddie kissed his nose. “Meg didn’t kill me.”
“Was that on the table?” Steve turned to look at Meg, who was busy whispering with Robin. “What did you do?”
As Eddie and Gareth explained their side of things, Robin pulled Meg further from the group.
“Sorry it took so long to get back here. We may have had a little too much wine ourselves,” Robin half-apologized, though there was no need for one. “I promise we came as soon as we got your texts.”
“It’s okay. I smoothed it over and everything’s fine,” Meg sighed, letting her head drop to Robin’s shoulder. “They’re gonna give me gray hairs. Will you still love me when I have to box dye my hair every four weeks?”
“I will love you even when you have wrinkles the size of a canyon on your face, my love,” Robin kissed the top of her head. “But I’d rather that not be at the very young age of 27. You need a break.”
“The tour-“
“The tour doesn’t need a break. You do,” Robin wrapped her arms around her, squeezing just above her waist the way she liked. “Steve agrees. He’s gonna cover for you while we take a few days off.”
“But-“
“I love you. They love you. That’s why you’re doing this. And when you’re back, the boys will be nice and behaved because Steve’s gonna make them regret they ever fucked up in the first place, right dingus?” Robin yelled across the room.
“Yeah. Community service hours in the form of helping me study for my midterms as punishment!” Steve knew they hated having to sit still and work on flash cards for hours. It was the perfect punishment.
Meg looked at Robin, then at her boys across the room. “So where are you taking me?”
“Lake Tahoe since we’re already close. You’re gonna shut off your phone and everything will go through me first. I’m like a pasta strainer,” Robin pointed at the boys. “They’re the noodles I’m holding back.”
“Okay, fine. But Steve has to promise to call if there’s a real emergency,” Meg agreed.
“I will!” Steve yelled from Eddie’s lap on the couch.
“And if there’s an emergency of someone’s creation, I’ll kill them. And then you.”
“I’m sure you will!” Steve was smiling at her, then turning back to Eddie with a serious face. “If you fuck this up, I’ll come back from her killing me just to kill you again, do you understand?”
“Sir, yes sir,” Eddie smirked at him before saluting at Meg.
“Alright losers. Come give me a hug,” Meg said. She’d never left them alone while on tour, or recording, or album release tours, or anything.
They piled into her one by one, hugging her and telling her to relax and have fun.
“I love all of you idiots,” she said fondly. “But if you bother me for anything less than someone dying or a show getting canceled, you will never see me again.”
***
As she walked with Robin to their Uber taking them to the airport, she reached for her hand and squeezed it.
“Isn’t it kinda nice to love so many people in so many ways?” She asked.
Robin squeezed her hand in response. “Yeah, we’re pretty lucky.”

Hidden Gem Friday
We're back on Hidden Gem Friday lads! How is it Friday again :OOOOO As always I'm still taking recs for these! You can even send them anonymously if you like (That's how I got one o them today!!)
Someone's a Cuddler by not_a_smooth_man recced to me by the author on anon! 6.7k words (COMPLETE) Steddie- Eddie Centric
Summary:
That morning, though, Eddie came to following what was truly a deep, dreamless sleep. He was cocooned by a warmth that was lulling him into a wakeful state. As he regained consciousness, he began to realize that his left arm was numb, trapped under something warm and heavy. He also noticed that his head was perched on said heavy thing, rising and falling gently. That was the moment Eddie finally realized that he was cuddling Steve’s chest. And oh, not just Steve’s chest, but his bare chest. He had wrapped his arms entirely around him, their legs tangling under the thick comforter. Steve’s body must have responded in their sleep because his arms were draped over Eddie’s form. And because it was just his luck, it seemed that Steve was waking up too. “Mmh,” grunted Steve. He yawned. “Morning,” he said, muffled by Eddie’s hair. “Um.” Eddie said intelligently. Eddie felt Steve chuckle, his chest vibrating with the sound. “Someone’s a cuddler,” Steve said, a hint of teasing in his voice, still heavy with sleep. - Or, Eddie Munson is in love with Steve and accidentally cuddles with him.
My Thoughts:
Okay I really enjoyed this one! It has so much sentiment in it but it isn't saccharine? And I feel like this could have very easily gotten very cheesy but not in the good way. I love cheese, but some cheese is a no. I'm digressing but yes this just felt very nice when you're reading it. It's a trope I've seen used a lot, but I'm never disappointed to read it again, and this is a super cute version of it. I love that you sent it to me dear author!!! Techhhhnically it's not exactly a Hidden Gem because it was only published a few days ago, BUT the author asked me if I could tell people about their fic, so since it's under 2k I thought I would put it in here
A Life For Every Year (And One For After) by Kedreeva recced by me but initially shown to me by @horsegirleddiemunson! 4.7k words (Complete) Generic with Steve & Jonathan at core
Summary:
Steve meets her when he is nine years old. She is skin and bones, and fits in the cup of his hands like a tiny, furry tennis ball and her purr rattles against the skin of his palms. ---- Or, the one where baby Steve adopts the same stray kitten as baby Jonathan.
My Thoughts:
Ough THIS FIC. Okay first off I'll just say I LOVE when people take advantage of canon location settings and the fact that Steve and Jonathan lived in the same woods (and probably ran into those woods to escape from their terrible houses a lot if Castle Byers is any indication) is soooooooo yes The way this is written is so. It just feels good. Like so much of it is heartbreaking (the dog, the moment with Steve explaining why he got Daisy spayed, the Max and Daisy) but it's so heartwarming too. I just really enjoyed reading it, and I loved the reread. It has less than 500 hits and that's simply incomprehensible to me
This Is Why I Need You by beestlesandstars recced by me 3k words (Complete) Stobin Platonic Background Steddie
Summary:
It’s three AM and Robin is trying to remember how Steve liked his coffee.
My Thoughts:
Okay so I have not read this elusive glasses fic that apparently everyone has based fics off of, but I have read this one and it hurt me sm. I've written about one of the duo dying but Robin and not Steve, so seeing it flipped is OUCH. It just gives you that weird hollow chest feeling right before tears? Augh anyway painful but I love it . V V V Good and a super short read because you just flow with it
It's a Date by FeatherForARose aka @steddiealltheway also recced by me 2.7k (Complete)- Steddie w some side Stobin
Summary:
Everyone knows that Eddie is into Steve. It's common knowledge like saying the sky is blue. Only Steve is hesitant to believe it, but when he finally makes a move, it does not go as planned.
My Thoughts:
Omg I read this on Tumblr so long ago and then I found it on ao3 and died reading it all over again. I love common tropes, but I ADORE when writers subvert them. Eddie who didn't know he was gay? Eddie who saw his QPR in Chrissy and didn't realize it wasn't just a crush like Steve didn't realize? ITS SO Augh the recreation of the failed first attempt? Steve using anger as a shield for being upset? Okay I'm just saying plot points but seriously this fic is just such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Also great characterization of everyone involved :DDD
does it get any easier? by vissers recced by me 5.7k (Complete) Get Dustin and Will w some Dustin and Mike and Dustin and Max
Summary:
“It’s nothing special, just—“ Will began, fighting against the smile that was brewing on his face. He paused, biting down on his lip and squeezing his eyes shut for just a second. “God, this is really embarrassing. We’ve been talking about this dumb crush I have. Among other things, obviously, but… yeah.” If the world hadn’t already been rocked by that giant fucking ‘earthquake’, the prospect of Will Byers having a crush would have had the same effect. Dustin was sure of it. --- Dustin and Will talk D&D, PTSD, and unfortunate crushes.  (part two of will coming out to the party)
My Thoughts:
Oh my goddddddd. YOU GUYS KNOW I love my boys but damn if party centric fics don't just get me right in my heart. This one is so well done with the characters. They feel like themselves, they joke, they get annoyed, and this is a really good Dustin Centric. It deals with his PTSD about Eddie, and there's all these little details thrown in that are clearly put there with such care but only make the story more intricate. It's so well written, and I love Will here and I just. Yeah read this read it nowwww
