I would like to hear more of your opinions on fandom depictions of Neil, if you don't mind! Your post made me realize some things I wasn't even aware of when reading aftg fic!!

Yeah sure I have a lot of thoughts on this. I think this is an overall fandom issue and not just an aftg fandom issue, but the feminization of neil as well as the ironing out of his personality to make it more palatable is definitely a thing.

I've noticed in a lot of fics hes a lot friendlier, a lot less distrusting, and a lot more oblivious. I also noticed the amount of demand for vixen neil, and neil in dresses and skirts and crop tops, neil crying and being vulnerable isn't a challenge on traditional masculinity because andrew and the other guy foxes don't receive nearly the same amount of demand.

There is heavy emphasis on people wanting not just neil but andrew to be softer, and while that's okay, it's important to remember the moral of aftg is that trauma makes some people hard, and intense and not traditionally likeable, and that those people aren't broken and don't need to be fixed. So when people just, ignore that and make andrew and neil a lot softer, neil always sitting in andrews lap and other things, lots of expressions of PDA, and other out of charter moments, it erases the idea nora was trying to convey.

I've stated before about how the fandom also often doesn't mention body hair but when it does its andrew having facial hair and neil having less typically, but also there is usually emphasis on andrew having a deeper voice than neil, who sometimes gets written almost as whiney and petulant or pouty.

I also think there is an overall lack of understanding of mlm culture in fandom which is largely a women's space. I won't go into detail here but how pwp is written (especially a lot of the trans andrew or neil ones) are not with a mlm gaze in mind, after all if it was proper gay porn then only mlm would be turned on by it, but the consumer in mind isn't mlm at all, both because the authors are almost always not mlm, but the readers aren't as well. There is emphasis on neil being more vocal and whining, mewling, whimpering, and moaning, all common in how straight porn treats the woman, while andrew is emphasized in being a lot more quiet, maybe grunting and groaning.

Lingerie is not common in gay porn outside of fanfiction, jock straps?? Thats a thing thats a huge thing, but in all the pwp I've seen of them in their exy gear I haven't seen it mentioned before, not a cup or jock strap or anything like that.

Neil is also the one being put into the lingerie and there is emphasis on him feeling pretty rather than handsome and him being petite and slim rather than a bulky athlete

There is also an overall lack in realism in preparation and dynamics that are physically impossible or unsafe but thats a whole other thing.

This is just off of the top of my head, I can get into the fetishization of trans andrew fics another time thats a whole other thing, but yeah this is just my unprepared thoughts and observations I've noticed.

Fanart also tends to lack the men having bulges, i respect trans hc but i have possibly never seen a flaccid penis in running shorts neil is wearing. They don't go away they sit there and take up space.

I have more to say when it comes to the dealings with trauma in fanfiction but for another time. I also have a huge rant about how fanon deals with the race in fics, both nickys canon race as well as the fanon everyone else's race

Overall, people can write what they want to write, and fiction is fiction and i cannot stop anyone from doing anything, and people can interpret the characters how they want. But when writing fiction, the authors own biases can slip though, the charters are written by them after all. An author who writes a torture scene isnt someone who has done that, but an author who writes let's say nicky as even more predatory, slutty, stereotypically gay and "ayeyeyye" in fanfic is unknowingly being racist and homophobic.

A person existing in real life fitting steryotypes is one thing, I've been told like once a week that im stereotypically gay since I've been alive, and have been under a lot of fire for being both "too mexican" and "not mexican enough" but an author who is not mlm and is white can still fall into these pre conceived notions they don't realize they have. There is no such thing as a real life queer couple being heteronormative, but someone else writing one can be because they're not real people, they're characters.

Why does this dynamic appeal to you? Are you projecting? In what way? Why do you think x character is more passive and y is more aggressive? Are they like that in canon ?

When quarantine started I threw myself into aftg even more, but quickly became depressed and felt gross and watched, I felt lonely as an mlm and isnt white in a dominantly white wlw/wlm fandom. Most of tumblr is queer white women dominant tbh, in the same way its American dominant, and fandom is like that too. I still have a hard time talking to my friends who aren't mlm about fandom stuff sometimes because I will tell them something bothers me and I'm not sure they understand or take it seriously. I was so depressed because my personal escapism was making me feel worse.

My depression has gotten better since then, but I still get very uncomfortable with the word "twink" being applied to not just neil, but now any queer man, especially when not said by someone mlm.

Okay I'm gonna stop here lol this was a longer ramble than planned. Ah. Don't cancel me don't twist my words I swear I don't care what others do this is just my observations

I’ve noticed you ship Neil with a lot of people, not just Andrew. I’m also someone who when I’m obsessed with a character I tend to imagine a lot of different potential dynamics in different au’s and multi-ship even when I love the canon romance, so when I see someone else do that I’m always really interested by how they think about it. Could you list all the pairings you like involving Neil and like why/how you enjoy them, can even be by degree (if you want I get if it’s a weird ask lol)

i adore you for sending this anon, fair warning: this is likely gonna be long! i would also like to clarify: NEIL IS DEMISEXUAL❗❗i think he would need to develop a very strong relationship with these people before becoming interested.

neil/andrew: this ones obvious- the mutual understanding? the respect? the communication? the trust? the honesty? both being weirdos? the keys? love that shit. they are without a doubt my all time favourite couple and likely always will be. not to go on forever about these two.. but seriously, one major factor is just how.. accepting of the other they are. especially neil towards andrew who is very misunderstood and judged by many of the other characters consistently. they are the picture of unconditional love to me. that and also the fact that they are very unconventional all just makes me so happy. 🧡 (i would like to add: also, in love with the concept of queerplatonic andreil. and raven!neil x andrew is FUCKING SUPREME)

neil/robin: she's neil's best friend and nora said they do absolutely everything together, attached at the hip. she said the bond between them is unbreakable. and honestly? i see some similarities between crossten and andreil in those aspects. neil sticks up for her when the other foxes bully her. wymack says he is a worse influence on her than andrew ever was lmao. unlike andrew, i think robin would be more open to pda, i still don't think they would kiss in front of people cuz thats just my personal taste but i think they hug A LOT. and i think robin after games will often run and jump into neil's arms 🥺 they are my second favourite ship and i honestly imagine neil dating both robin and andrew at the same time. i've spent way too much time thinking about a poly relationship between the 3 of them.

neil/dan/matt: admittedly i like the neil/dan side of things more than the neil/matt side but i still think they would make a good couple. dan and matt seem to care very deeply for neil (and for each other, and he feels the same way about them) they are so supportive and i think they could really bring out a lot in him.

stay with me on this one okay, neil/seth: ok, i read the ec about how seth and neil used to be close and how seth wears neil's original jersey number and my heart just,, ugh it hurt ok. i've read a few fics where they are friends and i've just fallen in love with their dynamic. i think they have the potential to rlly help each other develop.

neil/allison: you know how everyone talks about the potential of allison and andrew being good friends? because they are so similar?? that's why i love neil and allison together, cuz those ppl arent too far off the mark. further more, neil and allison friendship fics are SO popular. she will literally kiss him, link arms, sit on his lap- i mean omg. they are so close in these fics to dating so i often just imagine they are. neil seems to have so much respect for her in canon and i think that's something ppl dont often give her and i love that about them. there's this one neil/andrew/allison fic that i read which was amazing so i ship that too.

neil/jean: this is much more limited to raven!neil aus where their dynamic is much more interesting and more explored. the fact they would be partners and grow up together... it just... i love it. the fic that really sold me on them is Black As Is The Raven, He'll Get A Partner. (sorry if i remembered that incorrectly) spoiler alert: they don't get together, it's an andreil fic BUT their relationship in it is so fleshed out and its beautiful. canon jean and canon neil i'm much less interested in tbh.

further on from that: in the same fic, theres these ocs called meg and marley and I LOVE THEM. they get recruited to the ravens and are harassed by many of them so neil makes a deal with riko so he (and jean) can be the ones to train them so the others leave them alone. and the dynamic between the entire group, meg, marley, jean and neil is amazing. i ship all of them together i'm ngl.

those are all the ones i can think of rn. just an extra note: any ship that doesn't involve andrew its guaranteed that i imagine neil dating andrew at the same time as he is dating the ppl in the ship.

i am not sure tbh, i write some pretty angsty one shots and longer fics, but i TRY to at least give a slightly hopeful ending, tho now that i’m thinking about it, i think the angstiest thing i’ve written was that prompt fill based on the song, for island fires and family, i remember SOBBING the entire time that i wrote it (there is miluca in that one), but ALSO there is the fic i wrote in reaction to the season one finale, which also made me cry, which was called, we both know how this story ends

once again i’m not sure, like i said before, i try to give my fics hopeful endings if they’re really angsty, and i love me some hurt/comfort, but i’m not entirely known for writing happy, fluffy fics, tho i do TRY sometimes for certain people

yes!! i do love me some crossovers, and i guess i would have to say the malex, sort of doctor who au, i’m technically still writing for tove

okay, so like don’t hate me, but no, i rarely, if ever respond to comments, i just don’t know what to say at all, like i’m the type of person that really wants every single message to be unique and special, but there are only so many ways to thank someone for reading your fic, so i just tend to post things and then thank everyone for reading afterwards, if there is someone that shows up often on my notifications, or if someone asks me a specific question pertaining to the story, then i will answer, i also answer back if i wrote the fic for someone and they left a comment, and if i’m sent an ask on here about something that i wrote, but i am simultaneously the world's most shy and confident person ever, when it comes to my writing, so i’m so sorry

atm it’s malex, which is more than obvious, BUT before they hijacked my brain and made their home within my neurons, it was skimmons!!! i wrote fic for them for YEARS, even after i stopped watching aos

15. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, i’m just gonna talk about fics that i’ve posted and haven’t updated and not any of the hundreds of wips that have never seen the light of day, my original witch au tbh, i just, roswell made maria and isobel somehow related, and just made me really uncomfortable with the ship, which is the main reason that i’m not gonna finish the fic if i’m being perfectly honest, there is ALSO that au i had where michael’s daughter from the future comes back to the past and she had been raised by alex, because of reasons that are petty, probably my space opera au as well, and only because i just want to write other things MORE

16. What are your writing strengths?

i think i’m good at describing things, especially kisses, i LOVE writing kisses, it’s one of my favorite things, that and my fight scenes are two of the things i pride myself the most on

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue, sometimes i feel the characters are ridiculously out of character, but then i don’t care because sometimes in canon characters are also ridiculously out of characters, also describing things, because sometimes i just feel like scenes don’t flow right, i am definitely a comma whore, and use dashes and hyphens in places they definitely shouldn’t be used, run-on sentences are my best friends, also english isn't my first language, so, sometimes the way i phrase things just come out wrong

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

tbh completely honest, i follow the nora sakavic method where you just write the dialogue in english like, “hey there love,” they said in perfect french, and i only break this rule if i actually know the language because just translating straight from english always makes things sound stilted and weird

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

dc comics, i wrote several timkon fics which i posted on livejournal

20. What's your favourite fic you've written?

oh, i know that love is all about the wind, how it can hold me up and kill me in the end (still i loved it), no specific reason why, i just love it with my entire heart!!

Hey, your fanfiction/oneshots are amazing! I’m constantly rereading them because they’re so good lol. i mean, if you want another prompt, here’s one that’s been circling my head recently. Cinder plays videogames for the first time with Jaune. (I’m just saying, she does seem competitive. ;) Imagine how competitive she’ll be playing video games)

Nooo omg thank you T_T sorry I am such a baby about my fanfic, I take it far too seriously. I think sometimes I get sad I don't get many comments but I appreciate people just reading my fic at all, and I think I'm a bit stressed at the moment with uni and I'm projecting it everywhere else. You’re very kind and thank you for your message. I hope you enjoy the fic I ended up writing.

So, er, I took your prompt, didn't know how to write it, then remembered the obsesssion I've had with competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee for a good decade and a bit, and decided to put that to use. Sorrynotsorry. Not intending to represent or portray IRL people who compete, because that would be weird, I just love Melee lol.

I remember there was this extremely popular e-sports Over/watch fic in a fandom I was in, complete juggernaut, and for a long time I’ve always been like wow wish somebody wrote a MELEE fic, why doesn’t someone write a MELEE FIC so that person is me, I’m the one who has to do it. I have also always wished the vagaries of the comp scene were represented properly XDDD

So for some context:

Stock – like a life, you play with four stocks in tournament. Four stocking is beating somebody without losing a life, or dying. Puff is a slightly controversial character, and for a couple of years a very popular player dominated with her (contrary to popular belief Fox is the best and only good character in Melee). I don’t know if there’s anything else to clear up, because the rest is window dressing. Oh, CRTs are those old televisions which are really heavy, but they have no input lag so at in-person events they’re used. I reference some vague type of pandemic cuz it works for the setup of Crimson (OOH WHO IS THAT I WONDER), but just pretend it was Salem’s fault and everything is better now.

Fic title: The strange and intricate dating rituals of the nerd

Tags: author is a loser, author is a nerd, identity porn, finding excuses to make my dollies kiss, otherwise no content warnings. Vague modern AU set in Remnant, around 4,000 words (like a 10 or 20 minute read), oneshot, of course this is Cinder/Jaune, it goes without saying.

Fic summary for this would be:

Completely stupid, nonsensical Melee fan writes a fanfic, using the setting as window-dressing for her two favourite characters to kiss. The elusive Crimson challenges Juniper, or rather, Pyrrha, to a moneymatch.

“Is that legal?” Ren asked. “You can’t have a person as a prize, right?”

“I’m not moneymatching them. It’s alright.” Then Pyrrha looked at her notifications. She had so many Jaune wondered if her phone were hot to the touch. “It must be a joke!” Pyrrha tried.

Fic begins under the cut. This isn’t going on AO3 lol. Hope you enjoy it iressent, I think this fic appeals to only us two.

“How do you even make money off video games?” said Nora. She was dabbing at ketchup on her chin, oddly reminiscent of Weiss.

“I think you stream?” Ren offered.

“Well, yeah, that’s what you do now,” Jaune said. “But like, tournament winnings can sometimes be enough, or at least they used to be, with sponsorships, but yeah, I guess you have to stream now or whatever. I don’t really care though.”

Not like he was ever going to tell his parents he wanted to play Melee for a living. That was never going to happen.

“I think it doesn’t matter if you make money or not, Jaune. I’m sure we’ll both have fun anyway,” Pyrrha said. “This is the biggest tournament in Vale. There’s people coming all over. We might even make friends.”

“What are you gonna do with your tournament winnings, Pyrrha?” said Nora. Pyrrha giggled and shook her head.

“Don’t jinx it, Nora.”

“We’ll come cheer for you both anyway.” Nora and Ren shared a look. They didn’t play, but Jaune and Pyrrha both did, and Pyrrha wasn’t embarrassed about it the way Jaune was. It was like, video games. Taken seriously.

But it was just a weekend tournament, so it was alright. Online was good now, but nothing compared to it in person. Well, maybe not carrying all those heavy CRTs.

“Besides, it’s the first tournament that Crimson’s attending,” Pyrrha said. “Though I think they spelt it with a zero?”

“A zero and an underscore,” Jaune added.

“Very… creative. Though I suppose their Twitter is also… very…”

“Ooh? Gossip?” said Nora. “Show me their Twitter!”

Crimson was not exactly the most popular figure. They had only attended online tournaments, and nobody knew yet how those results compared to in-person tournaments. Rollback was good, but it wasn’t 1:1. Crimson also had made themselves somewhat of an outspoken figure.

“Crimson isn’t Pyrrha’s biggest fan,” Jaune said. Pyrrha was probably the best of them. Easily the best. She’d had tournament wins in Atlas, when Jaune and Pyrrha had accompanied Weiss for that one awful trip home, and as soon as it had been over they’d funnelled Weiss back with them, and then there wins back in Argus, her hometown. Jaune played doubles with her, and he was good support, but he hadn’t won a tournament before.

“I play a character which makes some people upset,” Pyrrha said.

Nora looked up from her phone where Pyrrha had linked Crimson’s account. Jaune had never seen Nora look so put off, confused, but also close to losing it.

“Does Crimson just argue with people online all day? And a moneymatch?”

“Pyrrha’s not moneymatching Crimson. That would be a match… for money,” Jaune added.

“About that,” Pyrrha said, and nervously laughed.

A new Tweet had come in just then:

Jaune had been sipping his drink when he read that and choked on it. Ren thumped him on the back.

“Is that legal?” Ren asked. “You can’t have a person as a prize, right?”

“I’m not moneymatching them. It’s alright.” Then Pyrrha looked at her notifications. She had so many Jaune wondered if her phone were hot to the touch. “It must be a joke!” Pyrrha tried.

“Yeah, I don’t know why they’d want me. I’m not even good,” he said, and laughed. “They must just be messing with you.”

Of course, that was when Crimson said they were resolutely not messing around. Pyrrha turned her phone up for Jaune to read it.

“I think you should do it,” he said.

“But you can’t be a human prize.”

“They might not even really mean it. Maybe they just want people to be hyped. Or controversy. All press is good press?”

Crimson’s Twitter was really a testament to that.

“I mean, Vale’s best player versus Mistral’s newcomer who everybody thinks is kind of a troll, it would be cool,” Jaune said.

Pyrrha was considering it. He could see. He felt like the devil on her shoulder. Of course, he could see all the ongoing drama on her phone, but he loathed to check his. They were a good doubles team, but he wasn’t that good, and he didn’t know why Crimson had decided to troll Pyrrha like this. Other than the fact people speculated Jaune and Pyrrha were dating.

Of course, in that case, he would’ve thought Crimson would want Pyrrha, whoever they were. Jaune wasn’t a catch.

It was good drama, anyway. He watched Pyrrha start to type a Twat.

CRTs really were way too heavy. Like, he understood they had no input lag, but sometimes he missed playing online, because on weekends he could roll out of bed for a tournament with no fuss. Then again, since in-person events had returned, he realised he missed being around people too. He made idle chatter and helped avert a disaster with getting one of the televisions up a narrow staircase to the playing hall.

They had hired out an event centre in the middle of the city, which meant carrying televisions that far for the tournament was one thing, but there was also expensive parking. He and Pyrrha had driven in with their equipment, and now she’d gone to find somewhere cheaper to park.

“Mr. Muscles over here!” Cardin thumped Jaune on the back. Jaune scoffed.

“Yeah, I’m no Mr. Muscles, there are four CRTs at the bottom of the stairs you could help with.”

“Oh, no, I can’t, I’m interviewing people for my channel. Pre-event stuff.”

Jaune noticed the camera guy beside him. Dove? Lark? Jaune couldn’t remember his name. He put his hands on his hips and said, “Well, for documentation purposes, Cardin hasn’t helped bring in a single CRT—”

“And that’s Pyrrha’s doubles partner, everybody!” Cardin cut in and stood in front of him.

“You can just edit me out later anyway.”

“I’m not great at editing,” said the camera guy. “And Cardin doesn’t pay me.”

“You get exposure,” said Cardin.

Jaune didn’t miss people anymore. It had lasted for about ten minutes. It was the height of summer, and the hall was already starting to stink up with heat. Unfortunately, he also knew Cardin didn’t wear deodorant. He could also smell the absence of it, his pungent body odour like the opposite of a pheromone. Maybe it was for the best Cardin wasn’t helping.

Jaune rolled his eyes. He hoped Cardin would go away, but instead he found a new victim lurking by the backdoor entryway.

“Well, hello there!”

Jaune followed him. There was a girl standing by the doorway, too nicely dressed for a Melee event, her black hair wavy and thick. She wore an eyepatch over her right eye, and she was, in want of a better word, maybe something more specific to capture her, beautiful.

He immediately felt pity for her. Cardin was bad enough around him.

“Cardin, can you go annoy somebody else? Or make yourself useful?” he said from behind Cardin, but Cardin ignored him.

“And who might you be? Are you someone’s girlfriend? Did you get lost?”

“He doesn’t represent us,” Jaune said to her. “I mean that literally, I don’t think anybody watches his videos. Cardin, go away.”

Jaune slipped past her to go fetch more of the CRTs. When he did, she felt hot, hotter than summer. He was not, in Cardin’s words, here ‘to pick up chicks’. He was here to win. Well, watch Pyrrha win. These events were about the game. Plus it was the one time he didn’t feel like a complete loser.

What he was also here doing was picking up CRTs. Not a date. Which he was currently struggling with. He was about to start crying for help, until the girl appeared again and took the other end wordlessly. They lifted it up at once, and went up the stairs, her first.

“You’ve got it?” she said.

“Yeah, I’m good, just minding the stairs.” They went carefully, because if it dropped, it would be a complete nightmare. “Cardin leave you alone?” he puffed out.

“You should watch his video when he uploads it.”

They made it to the top and navigated their way to where it was supposed to go for the pools. Jaune laughed. “I don’t think even Cardin’s mom watches his videos.”

She made a pitying noise. “Aw, but he works so hard. What with paying his friends so well.”’

He couldn’t help laughing again.

Jaune let the others setting up take over and went back to grab the next one. Only a few left.

She was funny. He didn’t feel so bad about having to carry the televisions in the heat, now. The event hall was starting to fill up with people trickling in the front, probably hoping to play exhibition matches before the event proper started. Jaune had got up way too early for this day. At least it hadn’t been so hot then.

“So you’re here for the tournament?” he said.

“Yes,” she said, and smiled, like she had a secret. He tried really hard not to check her out. He was here for the game. But she had a curvy waist, and a sundress on like she had just walked in from a spring picnic, not a sweltering summer day. She was lovely, in that type of way he wasn’t used to: a pair of glittering earrings on, a smear of lip-gloss, slightly flushed cheeks, the floral print of her dress matching her eye, a dusty blue to complement the oddly sweet, fiery orange.

“Well, good luck. But most of all have fun,” he said. “I just like being around everybody here. Not that I’m any good at the game! Well, I’m no tournament winner.” Then he awkwardly laughed and ran his hand through his hair.

He expected her to turn and go, but she tilted her head at him. “Aren’t you Juniper’s doubles partner? You won the Atlas tournament before everything went online, and before that, all of Vale’s.”

“Well, yeah, but that was mostly Pyrrha,” he said. “I don’t place as well in singles.”

“But you did. You came second in Atlas.”

“I don’t think they’re that great over in Atlas, to tell you the truth. Metagame is so different here. But with online I think they’re getting better.”

“Yes, online,” she said. “You don’t think it’s corrupting the game?”

“If you can’t carry a heavy CRT, can you really call yourself a Melee player?”

She seemed to like that. Her smile was pretty. It was sort of mean, and almost a smirk, but it was pretty. “I can’t imagine Cardin would like that. But you and I managed well enough with them. Let’s say we take the rest?”

Jaune liked the sound of that. Tournaments were cool, but nobody liked the set-up, or the expensive food, or the hotel prices. Or Cardin interviewing people for his shitty channel. Or, for that matter, Cardin swindling them out of a dinner fare. It was nice to think about being near everybody again, but it was all about the game.

Of course, Jaune was a fucking idiot and had a crush now.

“I didn’t get your name,” he said. “I feel like if I drop a television on you, I should at least know your name.”

“Cinder,” she said. “You’re Jaune.”

“Just Jaune,” he said and shrugged.

Jaune played pools, since the transition back from online events meant they wanted everybody to qualify again, previous wins or no. His Marth was pretty good, and it’s not like he had picked Marth to start with because he was the pretty swordsman— he liked the way he played— but it’s not like it had nothing to do with it. Marth felt smoother to him than Fox, but even the vanguard of Foxes, Crimson, seemed to have a thing for defending him and the matchup.

He found it kind of obtusely funny.

The tournament went on and he mostly focussed on the sets, ignoring Cardin between games and keeping to himself. He didn’t end up talking to anybody much, and he progressed through the Losers' bracket after one loss to a slippy Fox. He had the poor luck of facing Cardin, who threw his controller when he lost, and refused to fist-bump at the end of the match.

Jaune’s fist remained in the air just for a second or two longer than he should have. He went to the next match. By the time Jaune tuned in, the Winners’ Bracket final was taking place. Whoever won this he would face next.

It was Crimson versus Juniper.

And it was Cinder, the girl with whom he’d spoken earlier. She was lazily stretching in her chair, ignoring Pyrrha talking to her, until she blankly nodded at whatever she had said. Cinder was Crimson. Crimson, who thought Pyrrha was cheap, and spent too much time on Twitter, the Mistrali troll, who entirely been anonymous until Cinder had flounced in wearing a sundress and lip-gloss and helped him carry the stupidly heavy CRTs.

He had to hide his laugh, because nobody else would understand. Crimson, who wanted to win him in a moneymatch.

Which meant either she had an interest in him, or she really, really wanted to mess with Pyrrha. It was probably the latter. It had to be the latter. That must have been why she was coy and sweet with him, and fluffed up his Smash skills. He was glad he hadn’t preened before her. He didn’t fall for that type of sweet talk. But she was pretty, and funny, and he had liked talking to her when he had been hot and annoyed.

It’s not like he and Pyrrha were dating anyway, though. Crimson wasn’t going to manipulate or upset Pyrrha the way she thought she could. They were good friends, sure, but it’s not like Pyrrha had feelings for him or anything, and it’s not like Jaune was her doubles partner to worm his way into dating her. They liked playing together.

And Crimson had taken messing with Pyrrha too far.

He sat down in the audience to watch the match. He didn’t know what he expected. Crimson went Fox, Juniper went Puff, and then it was match, set and ready. The commentators were annoying and kept going on about Crimson’s playstyle, which was so aggressive they couldn’t keep up with her movement, and then they were bringing up how surprising it was she managed at all to be good offline, and then they brought up the moneymatch. Everybody knew about the moneymatch.

“Like, it’s obviously to fuck with Juniper,” said one of the commentators.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah but like, is it even allowed?”

“I think it’s just to— whoa, Crimson just suicided, did she do that just to avoid Juniper taking a stock? Oh man— yeah I think it’s allowed in the spirit of him playing doubles with her but does Juniper even have a back-up? She could probably play doubles by herself—”

“Just her going whomp on everybody—”

“Uh, did Juniper just lose?”

“I think she did, I wasn’t paying attention.”

Pyrrha did lose. It was close. Their last set, Crimson had nearly four-stocked Pyrrha— she didn’t die, not once, and then on Pyrrha’s last stock she suicided. Three times. So they were even.

“Wow, that is so unsportsmanlike,” said the second commentator. She was really, sincerely, trying to mess with Pyrrha. Jaune didn’t have any doubts then. When Crimson won, nobody even cheered, but there was a lot of yelling. Crimson, or Cinder, he supposed, fist-bumped Pyrrha, and looked happy, despite all the drama.

It was good drama, he gave her that.

“So wait, is Finals— wait is the Grand Finals Jaune against Crimson? Juniper’s knocked out? That’s it?”

“Holy shit. Jaune? He came second in Atlas, right? In singles? But Crimson just beat Vale’s best player. This is crazy, man. Is the moneymatch after this?”

“I don’t wanna be the guy taking bets on that.”

Jaune now had Vale’s hopes pinned on him, and the fan-favourite was out. He put his head in his hands. Before he could grow too maudlin, he decided he would catch Crimson. He pushed past sweaty fans and navigated through throngs of people complaining about Pyrrha’s loss, and ignored the ones who tried to talk to him, as he searched for that head of black hair and pretty, tight waist. The troll from Mistral.

“Hey, whoa, hey,” he called ahead to her, both of them now in the quiet hallway out from the main hall. There was a place for drinks nearby, which was where she was probably heading.

“Good matches?” she asked, as if she had not just won hers.

“Cardin had a tantrum when he lost. What about you, though?” he said, barely containing the confusing swell of interest and annoyance he felt. “I hear you beat Juniper, Crimson.”

She crossed her arms, and then kept walking. She didn’t go for the drinks, but instead there was a small, rickety door which opened out to an unstable set of stairs into an alleyway. He could hear the sounds of the city, and felt the heat not having let up yet, only just getting started. She went down and he followed her.

“You are not doing the moneymatch! Or at least change the terms!” he burst out.

“But it’s funny,” she said.

“Okay, sure, it’s funny, but Pyrrha and I are real people, not circus entertainment. You could’ve at least just made it about money and not winning me. People would’ve still enjoyed it, if that’s what you wanted.”

She was watching him, bored. “I don’t want money.”

“I know you want to embarrass Pyrrha, but we’re not dating, and I’m pretty sure everybody on Twitter is now convinced we’re dating. Pyrrha only took the moneymatch because of my persuasion, but this is out of hand,” he said. “Especially because— I talked to you for a bit before— I knew who you were. You were…”

But she was confused now, and her one-eyed gaze was hard. “What? I was what?”

He said, kind of pathetically and kind of miserably, “You were nice. I always thought Crimson was funny, and they always defended Marth, and I wondered if Crimson were really that mean. And then I met you, and you were pretty, and it was so hot carrying in all of those TV’s, and you made me laugh. And then I find out you were just probably talking to me like that because you were messing with Pyrrha, with your weird one-sided rivalry. Pyrrha doesn’t even think Crimson is a bad person!”

Cinder was quiet, her mouth pouted. “You think I’m pretty?”

“That’s not the takeaway I wanted there!”

She laughed, but it was short. “I thought it would spice things up a little. It’s just talking smack. And I think you’re cute, anyway.”

“No, you don’t,” he snapped. “You’re messing with Pyrrha.”

“Oh, come on. I wouldn’t go that far. I just wanted people to see you were a good player, and somebody wanted you. I could have just asked for her as a doubles partner instead.”

“I’m not that good.” Now he was blushing. Why did she make him blush? It wasn’t fair. It was already so hot. The wind blew, and it didn’t cool him down at all, but he caught the smell of her perfume: bright, like violets, without being too sharp.

“I like the way you play. It’s understated, yet elegant. I played for a long time before I turned up on the scene, and it takes a longer than people think to get good. But you just play. And you play well. You always seem like you have fun,” she said. Then she shrugged one shoulder, coy.

“I never wanted to use the tournaments to hook up with someone, you know. That was like, my one rule going in, not to be a loser who immediately hits on the nearest girl.”

“If it makes you feel better, I did it first. If challenging Juniper for you in a moneymatch counts.”

It was sort of horrible, but he laughed anyway. “Like what, you’re some sort of knight fighting for my hand?”

“In a video game,” she said, and then he couldn’t help laughing again, and he watched her sweet little laugh too. She talked smack online and could be kind of mean for no reason at all, but he liked her. Then she added, “And besides. Pyrrha needs somebody around to challenge her.”

“Pyrrha just wants to play the game, too, you know.”

“I know,” she said. “But would people have anything to talk about if I weren’t causing trouble? Besides, I don’t think Pyrrha likes the fame much.”

“Being Internet famous was not her idea of a good time, no.”

“So why don’t we put on a show for her,” said Cinder. “And tell her she played well. She didn’t even camp once.”

Jaune shook his head. “Do you actually not like Pyrrha?”

“She’s something different. The only problem for a long time is that nobody had practice against her, because nobody else played Puff. But now we do. So who knows.”

Their matches were good. Jaune wanted to make Pyrrha happy more than anything, and in the end, he had fun. Cinder won. It was close.

When he fist-bumped her, her smile was that same half-smirk, but she seemed delighted. Cardin came over to interview her for her win, and said, “So Crimson’s a chick! Can you confirm, are you trying to steal Jaune from Juniper?”

“Yes,” she said, which must have been to fuck with him.

Cardin hooted, “Moneymatch! Moneymatch! Moneymatch!” but Jaune wanted to tell him Cinder probably already had won him, moneymatch or no.

Pyrrha came over to him and said, “I think you played very well, Jaune. I know you had a lot of pressure riding on that.”

“It’s okay, at least it wasn’t on you. By the way, about that moneymatch… Crimson, or, well, Cinder, said she wants to change the terms. If you win, she won’t say any stupid stuff on Twitter for a whole month, and if she wins, you have to give yourself a break for a week.”

Pyrrha scrutinised him. “What did you do?”

“I did a little investigation work. And, well, I met her before I figured out she was Crimson.” Jaune rolled up his controller and went to make his way out for the post-game talks.

“I thought your rule was no hitting on girls at tournaments?”

“She started it,” he said.

“She did, didn’t she?” Then she laughed. “Wait, she wasn’t trying to be horrible to me? She was just…”

“Extremely awkwardly and weirdly trying to ask me out, yes.”

“That’s bizarre.”

“I know,” he said, dreamy. He had been checking Cinder out when he shouldn’t have, though, so they were even. He didn’t say that part aloud.

By the time it had grown dark, he searched for Cinder. “We need to pack up and go,” he said to her, “but do you need a lift to your hotel or something?”

“It’s not far from here,” she said.

“Do you want me to walk you back?”

She tilted her head at him. “Don’t you think it’s a bad look, going back to the hotel room of your doubles partner’s virtual enemy?”

“What, because you talked shit online or because people will think we’re sleeping together?”

“Oh, think we’re sleeping together,” and then she smiled meanly.

“Depends how long you’re in Vale for.”

Cinder was, in fact, in Vale for longer than the tournament. They were able to catch Cardin’s video uploaded together, which didn’t have any cuts and ran for twenty minutes.

Cinder hummed to herself. “You looked exceptionally handsome carrying all of those heavy TVs. I’m sure that’s gender regressive of me.”

“Yeah, but you helped, so I think it’s alright.”

They got to the part where Cardin was buzzing Cinder, and she was in an argument with the camera guy about the moneymatch and Pyrrha definitely winning, before Cinder said, “I intend to fuck him, if you really want to know. Not play doubles with him,” and then Cardin had gasped and told his editor to cut the profanity, which he had failed to do so.

Jaune tried to be subtle, but where his hand was on Cinder’s waist was not so, he knew. “I didn’t know that.”

“I came to the conclusion once I got there at the tournament, in case you’re worried.”

“Yeah, that’s fair, it was the same for me.” He hid his laugh into her smooth shoulder, then he kissed her, and up her neck, to kiss her on her full mouth.

Hydrogen - this is like your childhood friend who has always been with you more or less and always will be down to get a drink and chill even tho you haven’t spoken in years. Solid bro imo 7.5/10

Gold - 7.9/10 all that glitters and all but it’s still pretty on some people, silver is better tho

Thallium - sounds like the brother character in a ps4 exclusive western rpg that oddly falls under the radar in terms of reviews and gets shafted at awards for no reason 7/10 I’ll support you tho

...Someone is asking about my FO4 fic.....

Okay, well... first of all, you made my night by asking me about it at all, so thank you for that, lol! *^.^* Second, thank you SO much for the compliment! I know I’ve said it a trillion times, but I swear, I swear that I’m not done writing it. I know my writing has been soooooooo slow and long in between chapters, & I seriously can’t apologize enough. Not trying to make excuses, but in between my son, work, moving to a new house last fall, my other hobbies (I don’t have a lot, but they exist, lol), on & off writer’s block, anxiety & depression (being treated, but those who have it know that there isn’t a ‘magic, 100% fix’), exhaustion, and now the whole pandemic thing (I had unrelated bronchitis a couple weeks ago too, and my son had a minor version, so that was a fun event too)..... it’s been a tough year or so. Not BAD, but tough. I’m determined that I’m going to finish this fic once and for all, even if it takes me another few years.

THAT said...

I did watch Youtube footage of game dialogue for part of my ‘research’ (I have a whole long FO4 playlist of dialogue & specific game events, lol). I also talked to people online who shared the same passion for FO4 as me, bouncing ideas back and forth ( @the-dubstep-strawberry, @scorpio-skies, and @lothrilzul have been amazing for this during my whole process, thank you so much guys! Love yooo! <3 @marvilus73 has also made some awesome FO4 posts that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading!).

But most importantly (to me, anyway), I scoured the internet for any FO4-related resources that I thought would be valuable for my fic. I really did do a lot of research, b/c I wanted to sound knowledgeable in my writing and not just like a person that played for like, 10min & was like, “Eh, good enough, I’ll just make up the rest” (not that I’m dissing anyone who has done that, it’s just not my method).

https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki has been the most valuable (again, for me personally) resource I’ve used. Though occasionally you come across some info that you kind of have to take ‘with a grain of salt’, it’s really been a lifesaver because there’s soooo much info there than came in handy. If you look up a particular character - let’s say for example, Danse - the site will list a lot of their main info/stats on the right side of the character’s page. At the bottom of this ‘info box’, it will often list a dialogue page (sometimes two) that lists all the dialogue (as far as I know) that’s in the game. This kind of info was like... a total ‘goldmine’ to me, for helping me to get my fic off of the ground.

.....THAT also said, a little piece of advice - if I had to go back to the very beginning & start my fic all over again from scratch (haha, never gonna happen, trust me, I’m just saying), I definitely would have done things differently. ...Yeah, I’m sure all writers say that, and my story would’ve been pretty much the same - but I feel that I relied on the game dialogue too much when writing my fic at the start. Plenty of people have played through FO4, and even for the people that never finished it, I’m sure they played enough to know how the game starts & what the main story is.

It’s fine to start a fic off at the beginning of a game/movie/series (what have you) as if the person reading it is experiencing it again, except through your character’s POV - but unless you’re going to have different experiences (at least somewhat) from what the actual character/POV player has, or offer deeper insight into what’s going on in their or surrounding character’s minds that we didn’t see ourselves while enjoying that fandom... it might feel a bit tedious and boring. Like... ‘okay, but... I already saw all this when watching/playing it myself, so... what’s my incentive to keep reading?’

Yeah, my Nora did have her own thoughts/feelings/experiences that weren’t necessarily canon for FO4 in the beginning of my fic... but I was a first-time fic writer, and I was nervous that if I didn’t put more game dialogue in the story, that my own writing wouldn’t interest other people, that they’d think my writing was bad/stupid/not ‘enough’, etc. I didn’t yet have the confidence in myself to not rely on the game dialogue to fill in chapters, instead of just enhancing them a bit.

My whole (VERY long-winded, I sincerely apologize) point to this is: if you - or anyone who reads this - go to write your own story/fic/anything, be proud and unafraid to be you. No one’s perfect, and many of us learn to write better as we go (I know I cringe when I read my early stuff, lol!). It’s totally fine to use resources, just don’t like... obsess over making them a big part of your writing (which is what I feel I did when starting out, hence my ‘words of caution’. I like... agonized over making my chapters as ‘perfect’ as I could, and I think I used up waaay more energy than I needed to while writing. ...Come to think of it, I still do that at times now, and drive myself crazy with it, LOL!).

...And... if saying the above stuff added to a question/point you weren’t intending to ask, then I sincerely apologize again for ‘going off on a tangent’, lol! *XD

hi everyone! it has recently come to my attention that this week is 1daaw, and i really just wanted to join in on all the love and highlight some of my fav fics of all time (written by some of my fav writers of all time!)

this list is by no means exclusive, so if you’re a writer and i follow you please don’t get offended! these are just a few fics that i’ve read during my time on tumblr that really stood out to me and quickly captured my heart. some are recent and some are a bit older, but they’re all amazing regardless of age!

The question intrigued me enough that I'm gonna send it right back and see what you say! Which OC was the hardest for you to come up with? Tell me where you're heart's at. :D For both of you.

Riley: Full disclosure, it’s never hard for me to come up with an OC. If I like the fandom enough I basically make one up instantly (or decide whether or not I’m throwing the Jacksons in there, lol). The hardest part of it, though, is whether or not I want to share about the OC/fic as soon as I think of them and/or wait until I’m actually going to post. Anyway, the only ones who were even slightly difficult were Gabby (my Riverdale OC) and Dawn (my MCU OC). Gabby, because I couldn’t decide whether I wanted her to be Northside or Southside and I couldn’t decide who she should end up with. Once I figured out/revamped her entire backstory within, like, two weeks, it was easy. And Dawn was because it took me a tiny bit to figure out whether or not I wanted her to know Peter was Spider-Man or not.

Rhuben: I wouldnt say coming up with OCs is that hard as usually I can think of an OC within seconds of hearing a line or watching a scene from a TV show/book/movie. What’s always hard for me is coming to one definitive conclusion of their background or how they fit. To that end, I knew Averey was going to be my Flash OC related to Barry, but it took me ages to figure out whether she would always be around and what her faceclaim would be. I went back and forth on whether Averey would already be an “established” character canon wise, or be brought in part way through the canon storyline. After reading many Flash storylines, and seeing there was an instance where Nora was having an affair, I switched it to Henry. Averey’s original faceclaim was going to be Australian actress Charlotte Best (as I think she does kind of resemble Grant and thats what I was going for at the time), but decided on Ellen because of her content aka I had started to re-watch the X-Men movies again around that time.

RWBY Recaps: Volume 6. Argus Limited

This is a re-posting from Oct. 27th, 2018 in an effort to get all my recaps fully on tumblr. Thanks!

Volume Six is here, folks! I am so very, stupidly excited for this season. Heartfelt thanks go out to my friend who was all, “lol yeah sure” when I begged to use their FIRST account to watch. There are heroes in this world and they’re one of them.

A quick note about recaps from here on out: they will (my productivity willing) be uploaded sometime on Thursday or Friday proceeding the new episode. This is partly so that I’m not scrambling to post immediately afterwards—stress and bad writing all around—and partly so that, you know, we can actually recap stuff before the next episode airs. So yeah, that’s the goal.

Let’s do it!

We open on a gorgeous, snowy scene with ROOSTER TEETH PRESENTS smack dab in the middle. You know that feeling you get when you hear the Harry Potter theme at the beginning of a new film and the whole theater loses their shit? Same with Doctor Who and Star Wars? Whatever your preferred fandom, the point is I get the same chills when RWBY comes back and it’s excellent.

The animation really is gorgeous though and I sigh happily whenever I see it, thinking back to the days when cookies disappeared directly into Ruby’s mouth. There’s nostalgia, sure, but it doesn’t beat this detail.

We hear the distant sound of a train and then we’re thrown into exactly what we’ve wanted for literal years now: Team RWBY back together again, fighting not creepy adults but just some good, old fashioned grimm. They’re chimeras and… griffins? Ngl I’m not entirely sure, but they’re big, flying, fire-breathing nasties, so that’s really all we need to know. Luckily everyone falls back into old habits, easily supporting one another and executing perfect attacks (a contrast to the residual tension we’ll see in just a bit). Ruby is so busy posing after a successful kill that she misses the grimm coming at her from behind. Weiss saves her ass with a cheeky, “Thank me later!” At the end of the fight we get a reversal wherein a hit nearly sends Weiss tumbling off the side of the train, though Ruby grabs her at the last second with her own, “Thank me later!” It’s a fun little exchange made better when we think back to the Vytal Tournament. Weiss still “had her back” then too, but was more resistant to Ruby’s proclamation that they’re BFFs. Now the teasing is on both ends.

Notably, Ruby saves Weiss by taking her into her semblance, creating a cloud of rose petals that are half red, half white. Now combined with the old team-ups and some shots in the new opening, this has led a number of fans (myself included) to wonder if a WhiteRose pairing is in our future. Which also means that the ship wars are in full swing. Needless to say I’m not about that nonsense and I’ll only point out here what I said episodes back: if it’s a queer relationship with one of our main girls, and not a random side character who was previously out to murder a whole family? I’m on board.

Back in the fight though. The rest of team RNJR appears with Nora exclaiming, “Why is it always something?” God that’s a mood. Welcome to adulthood, kid. It’s just one crisis after another—except in your case the crises are objectively more dangerous. Sorry about that. We get to see Jaune’s improved reflexes as he fends off all the fireballs with his shield while Ren and Nora team up to knock some of the monsters out.

Honestly, I love this trope in action stories. Where—as Nora does here—a character just shouts out a friend’s name to get their attention and they immediately know what kind of move they’re about to pull off. It’s made more hilarious to me given that RWBY once had attack names and Jaune at least made the attempt with JNPR...but apparently they're not needed anymore. So unrealistic, yet so very cool when used.

So yeah, things are going pretty smoothly… up until Oscar yells out “Tunnel!” Ruby saves Weiss from falling, they manage to get over or between the cars, and in the sudden darkness we transition to what we only realize later is a flashback. At least, I didn’t realize it until later. Totally thought we’d had a time skip and they were just hopping another train…

My stupidity aside, before we hit the train station we actually see a familiar hallway filled with angry voices discussing the disaster at Haven—one of which is Adam’s. I really enjoyed this technique, wherein we slowly pan across the room as the voices grow more frantic and the sounds of fighting break out, the camera revealing bodies scattered across the floor. By the time we reach the throne—and Adam on it— we realize that the fight occurred prior to this moment, something that Adam is now remembering. He goes all skyward scream on us as he howls menacingly. Okay, dude. Compared to Cinder and Salem you’re really not all that.

Now we’re at the train station where Qrow is narrating a letter to Ironwood. Hell yes, please bring back the badass, protective Ironwood who defended the students at Beacon and stood up for Weiss. I’d be very pleased if he joins the RWBY gang by the Volume’s end. Qrow’s optimistic about the trip—they’ve plans to reach Ironwood before the letter does, which says either good things about Remnant’s transportation or bad things about its mail—though of course we as the audience know it’s not going to be nearly that simple. We learn that only two weeks have passed since the battle, but people are still reeling from all the implications. Lionheart tragically lost his life defending the school and oh, some students coincidentally were there and did some stuff. Excellent choice in showing us the mindless crowds while we hear this, the naive masses who, yes, would absolutely believe a story like this.

It’s easy to criticize no one supposedly noticing Salem, magic, the finger Ozpin has in every pie, etc. but ultimately people believe what they’re told—especially when it’s much easier to swallow than the truth.

Enough of the doom and gloom though. Ruby is having the time of her life.

Qrow: “What’s with the running?”

Ruby: “What’s with the standing?!”

I love this girl so very much and it’s wonderful when we get to see her acting like the kid she is. She uses her semblance with abandon because yeah, if I could turn into rose petals I’d be doing that all the time too. Ruby teases Yang with something from the gift shop and I really hope we get to see what that is. Yes, we end the episode with everyone left stranded in the wilderness, but if Yang’s bike can survive then so can Ruby’s souvenirs.

(Seriously though they presumably lost all their luggage that sucks.)

Everyone else is in top, feel-good form too. Nora daydreams about hitting the beach, complete with a thought bubble of topless Ren and a beachball. Weiss quips about how she spent all last Volume getting out of Atlas, thanks, but Ruby reassures her that at least she’s back with the team now. When two jokers arrive boasting about how they’ll be the ones keeping the train safe from grimm, Ruby and Yang act exactly as nieces should when your cool uncle is telling them off. AKA, making fun of them behind his back.

God they must have been terrors as toddlers. I mean we already know Yang carted Ruby off into the woods one day so yeah, I’m pretty confident in expressing my surprise that Tai doesn’t have a full head of gray hair.

The two Nice Guys go on to specify that they’ll provide extra protection for a “generous tip,” which—while essentially a throwaway line—reminds us how most of the world functions outside of our close-knit cast. Money, and more specifically Schnee money, quite literally dictates who lives and who dies. Not everything about RWBY is fantasy oriented…

We learn that everyone is just waiting on Blake— “as usual”—and we cut to her with Ilia as the two of them say their goodbyes. Ilia will be helping Ghira lead the Faunus in a “new movement” and is supposedly 100% on the straight and narrow now. Cool? I guess? To be honest I’m fine with her taking a back seat for this Volume. There’s a moment where we get a shot of Ilia and Blake’s feet, the former’s angled forward in a classic kiss pose, and I was super glad to see that they were just sharing a hug. I really don’t want the first LGBTQIA kiss on RWBY to be iffy on consent, considering that Ilia knows Blake isn’t interested. Hug though? That was super sweet.

Sun and Neptune show up to say their goodbyes too. They’re heading to Vacuo to meet up with the rest of their team because, in Sun’s words, he’s the “worst leader” ever. You kinda are, dude? I loved Sun up until they had him following Blake without her permission and continuing to do so after she asked for space, all in the name of the guy supposedly knowing what the girl really needs. The reminder that Sun abandoned his team to do this just reinforces how much I dislike that plot-line.

Sun gets the kiss—on the cheek—and after leaving Neptune lectures him on “letting [Blake] go.” Except it’s not about you? Blake is off to quite literally save the world and the fact that these guys view that as a threat to any potential relationship is… icky. Ugh. Oh well. They’re presumably gonna be offscreen for a while.

The train finally arrives and everyone piles in. We’re back to bunk beds! And of course Team RWBY is situated exactly as they were in Beacon’s dorms. Weiss gets annoyed with Ruby’s cloak hanging down over the side. Blake has a book in her lap. Ruby challenges Yang to a video game. Cue nostalgia. I fully expect fluffy AU fics where they ride the train all the way to Atlas and treat the trip as one giant, dramatic sleepover. This is non-negotiable.

Tension seeps back in though when Yang moves to pull her luggage from the rack and Blake immediately hops up to help her. In a super guilty “I know I fucked up and now I’m gonna smother you” way. Really excellent voice acting here. Yang ends up reassuring her. No, things aren’t perfect between them yet… but they’re definitely improving.

While short, for me this scene was perfectly balanced between acknowledging the girls’ complicated relationship without totally undermining the happy mood. Nicely done.

Then Qrow shows up with a drink. A drink with a slice of orange on the side. I have never enjoyed a moment more and I was so surprised I didn't take a screenshot of it. Clearly I was too distracted and am I too lazy to go back for one now? You betcha. The point is everything is fine, dandy, and filled with alcohol.

So of course RT goes and ruins it for me. Something hits the train and in a split second everyone is on high alert. A quick peek out the window reveals grimm and Blake mutters darkly that it’s “just my luck.”

Qrow: “Not yours.”

Are they gonna leave the safety of the train to those bozos from before? Hell no. Especially when one guy is grabbed right when the fight starts. I mean, poor dude, but he also kinda sucked as a Huntsmen. He wouldn’t have even made it past Beacon’s initiation, let alone graduated.

…I guess he’s kind of like early Jaune? Useless, wannabe hero who acts more confident than he actually is? Aw, now I really do feel bad.

He’s grimm food though. Gotta move on with our lives.

The other dude isn’t doing too well either, though RWBY and NJR + Oscar quickly show up, coming full circle to where we began the episode. Oscar insists that he’s got this fight under control which tells me (hopefully) that in the past two weeks they’ve had serious conversations about if and when Ozpin gets to have control. That’s super great, though I do wish we could have seen it. Flashbacks, maybe?

As the fight begins Ruby announces that the plan amounts to “don’t let anyone else die.” Uh...Ruby? Buddy. Pal. This is why people die. Because they didn’t have plans! Pyrrha—god rest her reckless soul—went off after a freaking Maiden by herself. Jaune got Amber killed because he didn’t obey the plan of watching the door. Lionheart frantically calls Salem with no real plan for what he’s going to offer her in exchange for his life! Plans are important, Ruby. You’re the team strategist. It was a badass line, I grant you, but please do not.

Luckily, no one (else) dies. That would have been pretty brutal for a premier. +1 point for world building where we see that trains like this have built in defenses to fight off grimm. -2 points for how useless it ends up being. As Qrow quickly points out, the turrets are drawing all the grimm to the front of the train where the passengers are. So, not good. Oscar is charged with telling the surviving goon to knock it off already while Qrow faces off against the super fierce chimera grimm. Not gonna lie though, when its tail first started up I thought Qrow was getting attacked by a dove…

This time when we hit the tunnel everyone makes it back safely inside with the exception of Goon #2 who gets his arm injured in the scramble. He’s literally crying on the ground when, in a pretty harsh move, Qrow drags him up and demands to know what the hell all that was. Civility and benefit of the doubt? Not Qrow’s strong points. It allows Ruby to take control of the situation though. How do you make sure that your cast of kids is continually calling the shots? A) isolate them and B) when you can’t do that have the adults act like children instead. We see that a fair bit in RWBY.

Jaune steps in to heal the guy’s arm, which is an unexpected surprise. I honestly thought we'd get a whole Volume’s worth of him figuring out how to access and control his semblance, though I suppose once it manifests you’ve got the basics down. We’ve seen that semblances can be improved upon—Ruby turning other people she carries into petals; Ren dampening the emotions of a whole train—so presumably Jaune will be able to heal more complex and life-threatening things in the future. We also hear in the ensuing conversation that he can amplify someone else’s aura…to be decided what exactly that means, how it connects to healing, and what the limits of the skill is.

During some theorizing about the attack Ozpin brings up that grimm are attracted to the relic they’re carrying and… oh boy. Here we go. Is it tradition that every recap the fandom goes for Ozpin’s throat while I stand here defending him? Might be. Let’s create a (semi) comprehensive list:

This might have been less of a secret and more of a slip. The guy is thousands of years old and the forces they’re dealing with are stupidly complicated. He can’t info dump every detail of a multi-century war in one sitting. So—

He might have thought this was one of those innocuous things that shouldn’t take precedent right now. Not the sort of thing he needs to worry them with. He claims in the promo that he didn't lie to the group and he quite possibly didn't. There's a big difference between lying and not telling someone every single possible thing that might be pertinent. Especially when—

We know that grimm are already attracted to people/negative emotion and they’re sequestered within a whole train full of presumably stressed travelers. There’s no reason to think the artifact would put them in more danger than they already are and therefore isn't at the top of the list of revelations to dole out. Especially with—

Qrow and his bad luck semblance. He literally just implied that the grimm were there because of him. There’s a reason he didn’t want Ruby near him during the fight with Tyrian and now they’re all stuck together in close quarters. The grimm were coming anyway. Even if we didn't have Qrow's semblance and big crowds we can also assume as much because of—

Those turrets. They weren’t there for a fashion statement. The whole train was crazy armored. They’re clearly very used to getting attacked on this route. It's a normal thing.

All of which is to say that the relic is one of MANY reasons why they might have gotten a buttload of grimm on their tail. Ozpin mentions this as one possibility in a very “Here’s something else to consider” way and everyone (characters and fandom alike) jump on him like he’s solely responsible for this predicament. Besides, what would they have done differently? Not carry the relic? That’s not an option. Be more on guard? They’re already constantly on guard. None of their actions would have changed had they known.

Really though, it’s the keeping of secrets that people are mad about, not necessarily what the secret is. So if we ignore the possibility above that Ozpin legit didn’t think this was worth mentioning/even forgot about it, we have a) he withheld the information because it might have made them wary about traveling with others, but they need to get to Atlas as fast as possible and the train is the best way to do that. So yeah, that’s a possible change, though I agree with Ozpin’s theoretical logic here. It was worth the risk.

b) he didn’t tell them because—again—worry is a negative emotion and that might have just doubled their problem. Awful as it is, knowing you're carrying a thing that might attract more grimm is one of the best ways to make sure that you do, in fact, attract them. Knowing what the relic does is dangerous.

c) he doesn’t trust them with all the information about these super powerful relics that are going to decide the fate of their world. Which honestly? Kind of fair. Yeah, I know he promised them no more secrets, but this is a centuries old, god-like entity making a promise to a child. It’s not even really a matter of trust anymore. We’ve got a core group of nine here and everyone has someone else they’re close to. Ruby isn’t going to keep secrets from Tai. Blake will probably fill Sun in when she sees him again. Weiss is close to her sister. Etc. In short, as soon as this many people know a secret it isn't a secret anymore. Ozpin is no doubt aware that anything he tells to their now massive group is fair game and he has to carefully consider what he wants to risk going public/landing in Salem's hands. A general doesn't tell every lieutenant the details of every plan. That's a good way to lose the war. Fate of the world vs. a promise made to Yang? C’mon. There are priorities here.

d) finally, we’ve seen evidence—particularly after the iconic food fight—that Ozpin desperately wants his students to be kids as long as they can. He might keep information to himself simply because he doesn’t want to burden them. And given all the reasons listed above for why they'd be dealing with grimm anyway, what's the harm in giving them what little peace he can? It's not perfect reasoning and if this is the case the others have a right to be annoyed, but it's understandable. It certainly doesn't make Ozpin the monster I see countless posts painting him as.

Plus, Yang? I’m not sure you have the right to get indignant about keeping secrets right now. Granted, there’s some ambiguity surrounding whether she’s mentioned Raven as the Spring Maiden, but regardless we haven’t seen any evidence that she’s told the group the details of what happened down in the vault. That’s a pretty big thing to be keeping to yourself.

A lot bigger than, “Oh yeah this relic attracts the thing we’re attracting anyway. My bad.”

Why the relic attracts grimm is another question. Because it’s connected to the original brothers? Just because Salem wants it and she seems to be the grimms’ creator? We’ll have to see.

Ruby interrupts everyone’s fury to point out that they have bigger issues at the moment and Ozpin’s expression kind of kills me? He looks so shocked to have anyone standing up for him, even if it’s a defense of practicality instead of his actions. I wonder if this Volume is going to have the team starting to lose a little faith in Ruby. Given the clear divide here (angry Ren, Nora, Weiss, Yang, and Blake on one side; Ruby, Oscar, Ozpin on the other) this might be a major theme moving forward. It would make a lot of sense too given Ruby's past relationship with Ozpin. To Yang he's just her headmaster; to Ruby he's the headmaster that let her into her dream school early. To Blake he's someone who wanted information from her before she was ready to give it; to Ruby he's the adult who gave her advice at the dance and was emotionally open with her about committing more mistakes "than any man, woman, or child." No matter how far she's come, they'll always be a part of Weiss that sees Ozpin as the teacher who didn't give her the leadership position she thought she deserved; to Ruby he's the man that has put a staggering amount of trust in her: by letting her into his school, giving her a team, sending her to Mountain Glenn, etc.

Now, it might be time for Ruby to put her trust in Ozpin.

Fight temporarily averted, they decide to separate the teams… which felt a little forced to me. I mean I get it. As said, giant group. It’s hard to write and keep track of that many, so let’s knock three offstage for a while. Jaune, Ren, and Nora will see the people to safety while Ruby and the rest of the gang eventually catch up. We get a glimpse of Maria—the old lady with awesome glasses—clearly plotting something and then everyone heads back to the roof to finish the fight with the grimm.

Blake has a quick vision of Adam; the last time she separated a train car. Excellent touch there. Ruby tells Ren to use his semblance through the scroll, but we also get a glimpse of their signals getting weaker. Another nice touch considering how important we know the scrolls are throughout the RWBY universe: how the team keeps in contact during the Volume Four short, the damage that the fall of the CCT tower has caused, etc.

We get a final, epic showdown with a massive grimm where everyone’s teamwork proves to be some top tier stuff. Blake and Yang capture it using Blake’s ribbon. Weiss freezes off its wings. Then—in a fantastic split screen—Ruby and Qrow both use their scythes to cut the creature in two. I’m here for the power family moves.

Only problem is that a final fireball from the grimm hits the train, derailing their section. Weiss keeps them all from dying an awful death, but now they’re kind of stranded.

I mean, they already were stranded before, but I guess the hope was the back of the train would have carried them farther down the tracks before losing momentum?

In the final scene we have an unexpected voice happily proclaiming that they’re still alive but boy, that was a close one! Maria hobbles out, having clearly planned to be with this group when they went their own way.

My personal theory? She knows (and to some extent recognizes) Ozpin. I can’t believe he wasn’t involved in a conflict like the Great War. Hell, he was probably at the center of it and Maria looks very old by RWBY standards. We have no concept of how long people in this world can live so I don’t think it’s a stretch to put her in her 90s or well over 100—old enough to have fought in the War and potentially recognize one of the central figures, even in a new reincarnation depending on her instincts, knowledge, and semblance. Her name lends a bit of credence to her age, if nothing else. As far as I know “Maria” doesn’t mean/isn’t evocative of a color… though I’m far from an expert. Could totally be wrong about that.

Regardless, we’ll see. More info arrives next week!

Other Details of Note

The grimm are at a distance when we first spot them and they actually look a lot like crows. The same motif we’ve seen with Raven and Qrow’s entrances but, you know, bad.

I really liked Qrow’s line to Ironwood about how they’re bringing “more than bad news.” It’s appropriately vague—can’t go admitting that Oz is back with the group—and at the same time quite up-lifting.

I personally take Ozpin’s “I hope they’re not from Beacon” as more of a joke than a true worry. If you’re telling me that this old as balls control freak doesn’t remember every student that’s ever passed through those doors… I don’t believe you.

When Blake is saying goodbye to Ilia and Sun we have lots of animation for her ears, helping to express her emotions. It says a lot about her character development that she hasn’t re-adopted the bow in such a crowded, human packed space.

Neptune is pursuing the “wrong tree” okay lol that was good.

When Neptune and Sun discuss re-uniting the team we briefly hear the soundtrack from their Vytal Festival match. Excellent.

Interestingly, Oscar gives Ozpin control immediately during the conversation about the relic, almost like he already knew what was going to be revealed and understood that it was important… I wonder how much they’re sharing thoughts now, two weeks later.

1. of the fic you’ve written, which are you most proud of?

well when it comes to FIC-fics... there's really only one...... i mean i've written and not published many in my day but. the only one that i have any intent to finish and then post anymore is the "beidou finds two little guys on her ship what happens next may shock you" fic, which is currently unfinished. i AM proud of it though and i'm gonna get back to writing it as soon as i'm finished making my little pokemon fangame

4. what are some themes you love writing about?

evidently, found family, BUT in a more broad sense i like writing about loneliness, and the struggle to cure it. loneliness is a core feature of a lot of my ocs, too, particularly in the Main Four:

nate's loneliness is very blatant and he'll freely admit that katsuya is his first and only (at least for a while his only) friend. going in full depth of nate's loneliness would involve explaining his entire character, so i'll leave it at that

kouki is lonely but believes that he should be even if it's hurting him, and struggles with communicating his own thoughts (and just speaking in general). someone telling him they consider him a friend or even just trustworthy will without fail surprise him every time

it's less obvious than the others because haruka is sociable and has plenty of friends, and he's well-loved by his siblings, but even he's got his fair share of loneliness. he's got to be the pillar for everyone else to lean on, so he isn't allowed to be weak, or he'll bring everyone else down with him (or so he believes). haruka cries alone, and no one's allowed to know

and nora likes to pretend the only support he needs is from kouki, and that the only person who needs to understand him is kouki, and his primary purpose is to keep kouki safe and to help him when he's struggling to speak. nora is a blunt force weapon who is either neutral or angry, so that kouki is free to feel any emotion he'd like and be safe to do so. and if nora's feeling anything other than neutral or angry, they're not gonna say a damn thing unless kouki goes out of his way to try to comfort them. to anyone other than kouki, nora does not have other feelings, and even if they did they're not telling YOU about them

(as you probably noticed, haruka and nora's loneliness..es are similar in concept, but haruka will tell you with a gentle smile that nothing is wrong and he's fine, whereas nora will tell you to shut up and storm off somewhere. likewise, haruka genuinely does not want to let you in, but nora is hoping deep down you might follow them)

this turned into a bit of an oc character study more than anything, but i think it gets the point across better than just trying to list themes i like... plus helps me out because i don't know where to draw the line between "themes" and "genres" LOL

7. create a character on the spot…. NOW!

UHHH UHHHHH UMMMMM....... i needed a few minutes and a shuffle through my music for this i'm really bad at on-the-spot characters. mysterious card game gambler who's never lost a game and cocky players always end up challenging just for a chance at the title of "guy who beat the guy who's never lost". the gambler always agrees to play the opponent's game of choice no matter what it is and all seems to be going well for the challenger until they slowly start noticing that the cards' illustrations are a litlte odd and then they recognize faces of various famous poker/blackjack/etc champions that suddenly went missing, but by the time they realize it it's too late and the gambler has won another card for their collection

1. Your first OC ever?My first OC ever. Well, I think technically it would be Sam, since I made him for my second FO4 game way before I ever wrote any fic. But then if you want to be technical like that, then Ellen, from Endgame, since I named my second Lone Wanderer Eleanore way back in the olden days when I was playing it. (my first LW and Sole were just an avatar of me so they don’t count.)My first one I wrote fic for would be...honestly I can’t remember if I wrote Nuka Grenade or started FitS first, but Ash from Nuka Grenade was way less developed, so let’s go with Nora from Fire in the Sky. I actually took time to give her characteristics and a personality, so I would probably say her.

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs?Well, Cynthia of course, is my go to girl. I’ve put her in so many things, that I think she’s probably gonna be my starter OC for future things (see Cynthiana from Dragon Age and Cynthiana from Skyrim lol) but right now, I want nothing more than to love and care for Gemma, and give her... well... more shit, actually. I’m terrible. I probably won’t make her in game though. Like Bonnie, she’s not particularly suited for Fallout 4: the videogame.

3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?Noooo.... not OC’s anyway. I feel like Danse and Maxson in Cyn and the Boys, as well as Liz’s Danse and Gemma’s versions, are unique characters, not just the same ones copy-pasted into different AU’s. But as for OC’s... well. I’ve written for other people’s OC’s before and it’s a very weird experience. I don’t MIND doing it, but I remain fully aware they aren’t mine and I am thusly really nervous about it the whole time.

I mean there are so many fics that focus on Neil receiving and we know why but Nora said they do eventually switch "positions" and yet so many ppl write from the one Neil bottoms POV. Like ?? I just think that's a flaw in a fandom dominated by women (mostly straight). Part of the fun of gay sex is that there are no set roles? Sorry about the rant love!

Dear Nonnie, thank you for clarifying. However, I personally don’t feel ready to write Andreil actually having sex with Andrew bottoming yet. I’m gonna give you what you asked for in the initial prompt: Andrew realizing that he wants to, or is on the way to wanting it. There is an explanation why under the cut (tw: discussion of r*pe and sexual abuse), and the actual fic, too. I hope you’re alright with this, sorry I couldn’t give you what you wanted.

A quick explanation: I’ve worked with rape survivors, male and female. Several of my male (gay) patients had a very, very hard time bottoming, even if they wanted to and trusted their partner deeply. Anal rape can leave a very big physical damage behind as well (in the books, Andrew was bleeding etc), damaging the tissue inside and outside, and damaging the sphincters, which, sometimes, leads to anal prolaps and can leave the victim with lasting damage to their bodies. Overcoming that can be very, very, very hard. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but someone who was traumatized as bad as Andrew would most likely need years or even decades to do so.

I understand where you’re coming from, Nonnie. I, too, think that in many fandoms the female part of the fandom projects themselves into one of the characters, making them the bottom by default (e.g. Yuuri on Ice or PJO or Drarry etc). But with Andreil, there is a reason why Neil predominantly bottoms.

It starts slowly, with blinks of images in Andrew’s head, scaring the fuck out of him at first. Neil’s eyes anchor him when they’re in bed, they make him feel real, and safe, and so far away from everything bad that’s happened.

It takes years, and they progress slowly, very slowly. But they do progress.

They go to therapy together now. Have been, for years.

Andrew hugs Neil from time to time.

Bad words aren’t bad anymore when they come out of Neil’s mouth.

Their bodies work together, like a well-oiled machine. They know each other’s favourite spots, what makes each other fly over the edge the fastest or keeps them there longer, making toes curl and eyes flutter shut.

Neil is allowed to touch him anywhere he wants now, as long as Andrew says yes first, of course. Soft fingertips running over Andrew’s shoulders, his arms, carressing the scars, running over Andrew’s neck (making him hum), down his spine and over his thighs. He doesn’t tense up anymore. Neil is allowed to touch his ass as well, and Neil does it in the best way possible. Gentle and soft, never harsh or rough, never like the others. He tells Andrew how proud he is of him and gently massages the soft flesh until Andrew relaxes.

And Andrew keeps going back to those moments sometimes, and finds that, even when he replays them in his mind and takes them apart, he’s still comfortable with the touches.

He talks to Betsy about it. She’s not his primary therapist anymore, but she’s still there for him when he needs her. He can hear her smile over the phone when she tells him to take it slow and talk to Neil.

One night, when they are cuddled together on the couch (because cuddling is something they do now) and Neil’s right hand is stroking Sir while his left hand rests gently on Andrew’s butt, gently cupping his buttock in such a casual, soft way without any sexual intentions, Andrew looks at him for a long moment.

Neil catches his eyes, and smiles. “What?”

“I’ll be ready one day. Maybe soon. Maybe not. I don’t know yet.”, Andrew says, and when Neil looks a bit confused, he clarifies, “To switch.”

“Oh.”, Neil’s cheeks blush a little, and his smile broadens. “Alright. Take your time. I’ll wait for you.”

They kiss.

It’s good.

Tagged by @chocochipbiscuit to post my current WIPs. Thanks, Choco! (lol this is going to be self-indulgent and painful XD;) (As with Choco, I also have more bits and blobs and ideas than I know what to do with, but I’ll focus on the ones that have a remote chance of ever getting finished.) Active WIPS (I have at least opened the document in the past month and I honestly intend to finish them this year.) In order of recently modified: OP CM BB -- "One Piece, Cobymeppo, Beauty&Beast" I mean, it's kind of what it says on the tin: it's vaguely a Beauty and the Beast AU. (Factoid: this is at least the 3rd or 4th fanfic I've written based on friggin' B&B. It's my favorite fairytale and I'm weak.) Currently at 12.5k (when did that happen?!) out of, I dunno, 18k? I honestly never intended to write this. It just sort of happened-- and kept happening, which is the weird part. I'm liking it though. Factoid #2: there are a lot of dogs in this fic. JD LLW -- "Jak and Daxter, Love Like Winter" 100% inspired by the AFI song, I won't lie. I've been meaning to write this for at least 7 years. I have a lot of thoughts and headcanons about the Jak and Daxter series, and this incorporates my hardcore favorite: Daxter is a Precursor. It also uses a couple tropes I love: reincarnation cycles, and fated lovers. As with any song, I can't say what it's actually supposed to be about, but I always heard it as the story of, well, reincarnation and fated lovers. "I met my love before I was born", and then switching between he, she, and then back to he. The story became very vibrant in my head! And this format especially allows me the opportunity to explore Jak/Keira as well as Jak/Daxter, because while I'm not a huge fan of Jak/Keira, I don't like just ignoring canon if I can avoid it. Currently at 7k out of... maybe 20k? It was supposed to be a lot shorter, but I'm only on chapter 1 out of 3, so less than 15k is probably not happening. Factoid: I think a lot of people only know this series second-hand, so I feel the need to mention that Daxter does, in fact, have a human form. XD FO4NV -- "Fallout 4, Nick Valentine" A very creative document name! XD; The story will probably eventually be titled "Same Heart" unless I come up with something better. It's a Fallout4 AU(ish) centering around Nick having been recaptured by the Institute, getting a memory wipe, and then living there during the years when Shaun is being raised there. Eventually, he and kid-Shaun break out to explore the Commonwealth and try to find Shaun's parents. I swear it'll be a Nick/Nora story if I ever friggin' get to that part, but right now it's mostly a Nick&Shaun story. Currently at 30k out of, I dunno, 70k to 100k? It's on chapter 7 out of 17, I think. I have this one planned out pretty well chapter-by-chapter, so of all my fics it has the best chance of actually happening. (Aside from the length, which sort of counts against it. It was supposed to be shorter, but I apparently couldn't shut up.) I'm thinking about focusing on this one for my NaNoWriMo, since it has about 50k left to it. Factoid: I get more emotional about parental relationships than I do about romantic ones, despite the fact that I LOVE romance. Stories I write about parent-child relationships always end up being my favorite. BttF On Track -- "Back to the Future, On Track" The only one I've actually started posting. I feel bad because I meant to continue writing this through December and January, but I got lazy and distracted, so it didn't happen. The season is just about right to jump back into it though (Fall is a more BttF season for me), so I HOPE to finish it this year. Currently at 18k (holy shit, seriously?) out of probably 30k. Chapter 3 (out of 6 well-planned chapters) is aaalmost done, but I might have to go reread some of IrisBleuFics stuff to get back into the mood of it. (Or maybe Rae's or Edgebug's.) Factoid (actually a question) : does anyone else have seasonal fandoms? Inactive WIPs (there are lots of these, so I'll put them under a cut for you. Still, these are only the ones I’ve worked on in the past year. Again, from most- to least-recent.)

HP GOtG -- A silly Harry Potter/Guardians of the Galaxy fic I have like a page of. I was mentally explaining the concept of fanfic to someone and this... happened.

HPCM Ways to Live -- Another One Piece Cobymeppo fic, and AU (or UA) about if Luffy had never met Coby in ep.1 and skipped right over to kick Morgan's ass in Shells Town. tldr Coby and Helmeppo become pirates.

FFXV parents AU -- I was REALLY into this one for a while, got a couple thousand words and a good plot outline on it. It's Final Fantasy 15 AU (or, as usual, a UA) in which Noctis is only a baby when the empire attacks, and teenage Ignis and Gladio have to run away with him, and end up raising him on their own. I 100% intend to finish this one, but it's not top priority at the moment.

A modern prometheus -- A magical-world retelling of Frankenstein. Probably gay.

FO4 WFM-- "Fallout 4, Waiting for magic" On the day the bombs drop, Nora's husband is still at war, while she's several months pregnant and working on her legal cases from home. Her friend Nick Valentine has come to give her some documents and check on her when they're suddenly ushered into the vault and frozen. AKA the romantic adventures of Nick and a heavily pregnant Nora out in the Commonwealth. (Inspired by an Ace of Bass song)

Fo4 Sky-- "Fallout 4, Skyrim" Basically a riff off the previous story, but not the same at all, somehow. Set in Skyrim, Nora is essentially sleeping beauty. Wait. Snow white? Er, yeah. Magically frozen in a coffin, yeah.

MEA Avi -- "Mass Effect Andromeda, Avi: a sci-fi ghost story" REALLY thought I was gonna finish this one, but I got distracted from MEA altogether. The story of Avitus Rix and his SAM unit, which has begun to think it is the late Macen Barro, its previous owner/partner, and Avitus' longtime boyfriend. Still can't decide how sad I want it, but it'll be pretty gloomy even if I go with a happy ending.

DCo side story AU -- A modern mini-fic about my DamselCo characters going on a double date, except Addisson and Hunter are both late so it's just Ellery and Isabelle being kind of awkward.

FFXV Dear Fellow Traveler -- AU, Prompto was raised in Niflheim and meets Noctis and the others on their (very long, winding) trip to Noct's engagement. Promptis, no war.

FFXV mermaid AU -- More Promptis. Noctis fishes up mer-person Prompto. They have adventures. Ignis has to go looking for Noctis later and meets mer-person Gladio.

OW Sagittarius -- Eheh, posted the first chapter of this in January and then just gave up. XD;;;; I feel so bad. An Overwatch teenage McHanzo AU, where Jesse is a centaur sold into slavery to the yakuza. Trained by the Shimada clan, he falls in love with the heir, Hanzo, who then helps him escape. Many years later, they meet again in Overwatch. I have a GOOD plot outline for this, so I really have no excuse for not finishing it. It's on the to-do list after the first few.

FFXV Firstborn son -- Question: is a person still consider a trans-person if they're born female, but both raised as and identify as male (because patriarchal bullshit)? If so: trans-Noctis, Promptis fic.

FFXV Mirror Sword Shield -- Yet another FFXV AU, obviously inspired by that one Coldplay song that I love. Hundreds of years ago, Noctis defeated the darkness, but was sealed away inside the crystal, only to return when he needed to do it again. Prompto, Ignis, and Gladio have trained as his guardians all their lives, for the slim chance that he does return. (I really like this idea, but if I write this one, it'll only be after I finish the other FFXV fics.)

OW BB -- Guess what? Another "Beauty and the Beast" fic, Overwatch flavored. Except it's really more like, "the beast and also another beast". McHanzo, of course, featuring a snarky dragon spirit that constantly taunts Hanzo about his guilt.

BttF Ashes -- Hot damn I gotta write this fic some day. I have a GREAT plot outline for it, following a chiptune song called Ashes. I love it, it makes me cry. It's a Back to the Future AU, about Doc dying when his house burns down. Years later, ghost-Doc teams up with Marty to finish the time machine, and then (spoiler alert) Marty goes back in time and saves Doc, pulling his corporeal self into the future ala The Mediator and they live happily ever after the end. XD

PacRim Redefined -- Another one I feel bad about, because I have posted most of what I have written, but I don't know if I'll ever finish it. It's a far-future semi-AU about Newt and Hermann. TBH it's one of my favorite fics I've ever written, but I'm a loser and can never finish anything. Hopefully next year??? I've got much of a plot outline, so.

Bttf Dino prompt -- Braincoins prompted me last year to write a fic about Marty and a dinosaur, and I started to! But then I had no idea where I was going with it, so I stopped a few pages in. ^^; I'd like to figure out an ending to it that isn't both boring and bleak.

Bttf Solving for X -- A series of short AUs about if either Doc or Marty (or both) were women. I'd like to maybe work on this one again sometime.

HxH AU Laughter Lines -- A Hunter x Hunter fic that makes me cry when I think about it XDXDXD Based on the Bastille song of the same name, it's an AU in which Gon is like... a tree nymph. A little hard to explain, it's a sad little Killugon fic, and it should be pretty short, so I ought to just sit down and write it one day.

BttF Thirst for Romance -- I love this idea! Why haven't I written it?! In his 30's or 40's, Marty is a nurse at a convalescent home/ hospice, where he meets Doc, who loves to tell wild stories. He tells Marty stories about adventures that the two of them had in the 80's and with time travel. Everyone assumes Doc is just very creative and lonely, and they love his stories. He and Marty become close, and when Doc passes away, he leaves his meager possessions to Marty, including a mysterious set of keys which unlock his old garage, and a strange old car inside... (Really want to write this one eventually!) (Based on the song of the same name.)

BttF Hell Valley -- A sad AU, taking place in the Hell Valley timeline from movie 2. Marty has run away from his abusive step-dad and finds himself living in Doc's garage. They're just two broken people trying to get by. Marty wants Doc to run away with him, someplace far away, but Doc has a better idea, if he can get it to work. (Inspired by the song Fast Car, the sad-sounding Jonas Blue version. "You got a fast car. Is it fast enough so we could fly away?")

BttF SG fusion -- and last and possibly least, yet another BttF AU, but a fusion with Steins;Gate, because time travel is not complicated ENOUGH, I have to make it WORSE. In this story, Marty is raised in the dystopian future with the goal of going back to the past to kill Doc Brown before he can create time travel. I liked the idea a lot, but to be honest I think I even confused myself with it. I'd sort of like to keep writing it, but it'll take a lot more effort than I can foresee me wanting to put in any time soon.
