Use your own intuition and discernment to read my interpretations. Remember that this is a general reading so not everything has to resonate. This reading was only made for guidance and entertainment, it´s not a replacement for professional advice of any kind. I use a Rider-Waite deck and you can ask me about the cards if they aren´t named in the reading. PAC: Your Hidden Talents
Happy Holidays! Here’s a reading on your hidden talents before the December reading 🖤
Pick a pile that sparks a memory in you - it could be a person/place/music/ object etc. If more than 1 pile sparks a memory in you, pick the pile that evokes the strongest emotions in you. However, if you feel strongly for both, you may go ahead and read more than 1 pile.
As this is a general reading, do take what resonates for you and take the rest with a pinch of salt.
Warning: This reading will be rather blunt and honest. Do proceed with caution❗️

Hi Pile 1👑
At a glance, I see that your hidden talent lies in your ability to manifest material abundance. I would not say that this talent will bring you wealth or make you a billionaire, but you’ll be able to live in comfort.
Another talent I see is the ability to know what people actually need. You have no trouble reading between the lines of what people are saying. And you also know what people truly desire - even when they do not say it.
Overall, I would say that you are happy with what you have but you also constantly desire for more. The desire for more is a fine line to being greedy. At times, you may be a little vain and ignorant of others. Maybe you are so comfortable that you often forget that there are others out there struggling to feed themselves. Remember to be thankful for the abundance you have and be more sensitive to people less fortunate out there.
Summary
Your hidden talents: manifest abundance, read between the lines, know what people trule desire
To take note: be less ignorant, be more sensitive to others

Hello Pile 2 ☁️
Welcome to your reading.
Your hidden talent lies in your luck. You are who is quite lucky in general. Even if you’re not, you somehow always get what you want - especially if it’s something you care about.
You are likely somebody who thinks you’re just an ordinary guy/girl-next-door, but I would say that you often avoid the worst of outcomes. There are people who are lucky in material abundance, or lucky with people, but you are someone who is lucky in situations. You are likely to come out unharmed during a disease outbreak (covid, perhaps?). And you are likely to have experienced multiple “blessings in disguise” where you thought you lost a job offer - but in reality you avoided being a victim of a job scam.
Despite your lucky talent, I feel that you tend to act without deliberation. Sometimes, you just want instant results but do not care to read and think through properly. I advice you to calm down and think through before following through what you do. Your luck may bring you to greater heights when it does not need to save you from your carelessness.
Summary
Your hiddent talent: luck, able to avoid unfortunate situations
To take note: think before acting, be less impulsive

Hey Pile 3 🌸
Your hidden talents are stability and intelligence. You are someone grounded who prefers simple stability than risky wealth. You are someone who gains more living honestly than taking big gambles. You have likely felt the burn when you took a risk in the past. Feeling comfortable and stable is a talent that many do not have, given how numerous people may have acquired wealth but feel like they can topple over like a house of cards.
Pile 3, you are also someone deeply intelligent. You are often able to make sound and wise decisions to protect your stability. Even if you think otherwise of your smarts, people around you have definitely noticed it.
Something to note will be your high chance of singlehood. Your talent for stability and intelligence will likely bring you wealth, however, potential partners may feel threatened by it. They likely feel inadequate or out of your league when they compare themselves to you - although you have never said anything to make them feel this way. My advice will be to expand your social circle and befriend those who would not feel threatened by your accomplishments.
Summary
Your hidden talent: stability, intelligence
To take note: singlehood, people feeling threatened by your wealth/accomplishments, expand your social network

Hi Pile 4 🌹
Right off the bat, I see that you’re a multi-talented pile.
You have a natural talent of seeing through people. You do not let appearances fool you and you’re able to hear the bullshit from people’s words. You are able to see people for what they are and will not let others convince you otherwise.
Another talent you have is related to beauty or the arts. Some of you in this pile have the gift of beauty - you may be blessed with good physical appearance. For others, beauty means having a knack for fashion or makeup. For those blessed with the arts, you could be an artist if any form - visual arts, handicrafts, music, perfumery etc. I see that you have at least 3 forms of talent mentioned above.
One more talent you carry is not fearing the unknown. Humans are usually afraid to venture into places that others have not set foot into. However, that does not apply for you. Instead, you welcome the unknown and whatever else it brings along. This can make people steer away from you as it can make you seem unpredictable and volatile.
With so many talents, people tend to be wary of you and some may even try to talk you down. Do not let the negativity affect you. My advice is to filter through who you befriend as those who are accepting of you will not be threatened by your many talents.
Summary
Your hidden talent: ability to see through people, beauty, the arts, not fearing the unknown
To take note: may appear volatile to people when you welcome the unknown too much, do not let what others think weigh you down

HII!!1!1!1 i hope ur doing well
im currently sick (GRAHH) my throat has been hurting
ANYWAYSSS since i havent been able to sleep (its like umm 4:23 am) i had this little ermmm ideaaa :3
law x reader but the reader is shy n she doesnt know how to say “no” to people so law has to step in whenever too many people start asking her for help n shit
AAAAA idk bye bye have a great day/night pookie bearrrr
Law When You Don't Know How To Say 'No'
A/N: HI!! I am sorry that this took me so long but here it issss This was honestly a bit too easy to write since im lowkey (highkey) the same way,,, ANYWAYS i hope you enjoy!!! Pairing: Law x reader CW: Cursing WC: 1.4k
Law noticed your tendency to always say yes to everything from the moment he first met you. When you guys would be wandering islands, you bought every item from merchants who tried to haggle with you. When citizens asked for your help, even if their intentions were obviously terrible, you couldn't resist saying yes. You even put up with friends whom you knew were less than ideal for months, all because you never had the courage to step away. You always said “yes” to people, and frankly, Law was getting tired of it.
The lectures from him never seemed to end. Almost nightly, you heard the broody captain telling you to ‘stand up for yourself’ and how ‘you can’t keep saying yes to everyone.’ Yet, despite Law's advice, you couldn't help but continue your habitual affirmation. The pattern had become ingrained in your nature, and breaking free from it proved more challenging than you anticipated.
You found yourself caught in an interesting situation this time around. The Heart Pirates had chosen to dine at a tavern on an island where they were docked. At first glance, it seemed like the perfect haven for pirates, since it's main clientele were pirates themselves. However, the moment you all walked in and witnessed the chaos, it became clear that your assumptions were very wrong. If it weren’t for the fact that this tavern was the only food establishment that accepted pirates, you all would have walked right out. Instead, you kept to yourselves by Law's orders and settled into a corner booth to eat.
The drinks arrived first, followed closely by the food. Everyone dug in rather quickly. You happened to be the first to finish your drink, and the desire for a refill tugged at you. However, as you observed the chaos around the tavern, you noticed the waitress busy preventing another group of pirates from shooting each others heads off. Deciding not to add to her workload, you opted to head to the bar and refill your drink on your own.
Approaching the bar, you leaned onto it with your empty cup in hand, waiting for the equally busy bartender to notice you. Lost in thought, you heard the scrape of a barstool next to you, and your attention was drawn to a larger man taking a seat.
"What are you having?" The man asked, his deep voice resonating as he leaned closer to you.
"Oh, it's nothing," you replied with a nervous laugh, hopeful that the bartender would soon notice your empty cup.
"Well, why don’t you let me get you another one of those?" he offered, leaning in once more. You subtly leaned away, feeling his presence a bit too close for comfort. Undeterred, he continued, "You know, we can always use someone like you on my crew. We would treat you well, and who knows, maybe you’ll have a different kind of fun with us," he suggested.
A wave of revulsion washed over you at his lewd proposition, prompting you to redirect your focus to the bar before you. Your words stumbled in an attempt to deny his request, "Oh, um, well, that’s a nice offer, but…" Yet, the refusal lingered unspoken, lost in the unease of the moment.
His smirk deepened, the subtle twist of his lips revealing a hint of satisfaction as he responded, "It is a nice offer indeed. So what do you say? We set sail tonight, and my crew would love to have someone like you around." He gestured toward his crew behind him, and your gaze involuntarily drifted to them. Some appraised you with lingering looks, while others seemed to undress you with their eyes, treating you as if you were nothing more than a piece of meat on display.
Back where Law was, he noticed that you had been gone for a while. His sharp eyes scanned the room, and a sense of concern flickered across his face when they landed on you at the bar, engaged in conversation with a larger pirate. "Shit," he muttered to himself, a distinct tension tightening his jaw. Excusing himself from the table, he swiftly made his way over to you. As he approached, he couldn't help but overhear snippets of the conversation.
“Come on, join me on the sea. I’m sure you’ll have a great time,” the larger man urged, attempting to coax you into considering his offer.
“I, uh…” You started, your words faltering, leaving you struggling to defend yourself in the face of his persistence.
Unable to tolerate the uncomfortable scene any longer, Law stepped up behind you. A firm hand landed on your shoulder, pulling you closer to him, and he spoke up, his voice cutting through the awkward atmosphere, "Hey, fuck off, they're with me."
You jumped slightly at the unexpected touch, but the tension in your shoulders immediately eased as you recognized Law's presence. A sigh of relief escaped you as the larger man grew visibly upset and angered by Law's bold interruption. "And who are you supposed to be?" the man demanded, his crew getting riled up in response to their captain being openly defied. The whole tavern seemed to be swallowed by a growing tension, the air thick with the anticipation of a confrontation.
“Room,” Law uttered, and a blue bubble enveloped the tavern. The charging pirates were frozen in their tracks as Law unsheathed Kikoku in a blur of motion. With a quick and precise slash through the air, the pirate and his crew were cut right in half. Their halves pathetically fell to the floor, leaving the once chaotic tavern in a stunned silence.
The Heart Pirates were the first to break the quiet, erupting into cheers and applause for their captain. Law smirked at the defeated pirates sprawled before him, a victorious glint in his eyes. Without missing a beat, he grabbed your arm, gently pulling you away from the bar and toward the exit of the tavern.
“Come on, let's get out of here,” he said, leading the way back towards the Polar Tang, the rest of the crew in tow. The tense atmosphere dissipated with each step, replaced by the comforting sounds of the cheering Heart Pirates, celebrating their captain's quick and decisive action.
You both made it back to the submarine, and Law dragged you into his quarters, lightly slamming the door behind him. He released your arm but kept his gaze fixed on you, a hint of irritation evident in his eyes. "Care to explain what happened back there?"
You tried to defend yourself, stammering, "I tried to tell him that I won’t join him, but I—"
"Tried? I didn’t see much trying, only a failure to say no like you always do," he cut you off abruptly, his tone stern. "You're going to get yourself killed one day, I swear," he added with a deep sigh.
You looked down in embarrassment, your voice lowering as you responded, "...I know. I’m sorry." The weight of his concern sank in, and you couldn't help but feel a mixture of regret and gratitude for his protective demeanor.
"Saying sorry doesn’t mean anything if you don’t do anything to fix it," he responded harshly. The weight of his words pressed upon you, and he noticed your embarrassment. Sighing, he seemed to calm himself. Walking over, he placed both hands on your shoulders. When you looked up at him, his tone softened, "Look, I’m just worried for you. I don’t want to see you wind up on some other asshole’s ship all because you can't say no. Do you get that?"
You nodded, and he offered a small smile. "Good. Now, I need you to promise me that you will grow a spine and start saying no. You can even start with me if it will help you. Okay?" he suggested, his concern evident in his gaze.
You looked into his steely grey eyes, filled with genuine worry for you, and offered your pinky to him. “I can promise to try?” you offered with a sheepish smile, hoping he would accept.
He looked at your pinky and rolled his eyes slightly, but took one of his hands off your shoulder, interlocking his pinky with your own. “I’ll take what I can get,” he responded. “Now, let’s talk about how you almost just ran off with that creep and his crew,” he teased you, a smirk growing on his face.
“Hey! I didn’t mean to almost run off with them,” you retorted sheepishly.
“Ahuh, okay. Now run that whole conversation from the top to me,” he responded, practically taunting you. You rolled your eyes at him as you began to replay the interaction, reliving your embarrassment in the retelling for him, internally telling yourself that you would grow a spine so that you would never have to be teased like this again.

I reread episode 24 of LO after having dropped off between seasons 1 and 2 and it genuinely brought me to tears. I feel like there’s no way the theory about Rachel not intending this to be a depiction of SA can be true. The way it’s written feels so powerful and intentional, and I honestly think that makes her dropping the plotline that much worse.
I mean, maybe I’m projecting because of how similar the scenario was to my own experiences, but I just don’t feel convinced that she didn’t fully intend to write this as SA.
The shots of Persephone trying to physically push him away, of her standing shell shocked in the shower, after the fact, her internal dialogue about wanting it to stop but feeling like she can’t take back the “okay” she gave. It’s gut wrenching. And Apollo commenting on her hair and saying she should leave it long is such a brilliant piece of writing that hits like a punch in the gut for us readers who know why it grows.
And honestly, I think that chapter being so well written is what hurts the most. Because it feels like myself and other survivors were lured in by the prospect of seeing our stories told, and getting catharsis through Persephone even if we would never have it. The conversation she has later with Eros, where he states plainly that what happened was rape, not dancing around the word, validating what Persephone and so many real readers have gone through… It’s so, so painful to read that back and know that this plotline was dropped. That we were led to believe we would be seen only to be completely swept under the rug with no resolution to that story.
And I know people criticize that it’s immediately followed by a phone call with Hades, but honestly? After rereading that too? I loved most of the phone call. They had real chemistry, and you could still feel the weight of what just happened in how Persephone carried herself, but as they talked and she had something to distract herself, the burden got a bit lighter, at least for the moment. It felt resonant. Emotionally intelligent.
It’s like you said. Lore Olympus wouldn’t be so easy to hate if it hadn’t been so easy to love. I think it could have been good despite its flaws and problematic elements, because no media is 100% pure— but somewhere along the way, Rachel stopped caring. And THAT is what ruined it.
No but this is so valid, everything you just described was pretty much why I loved the SA plotline in the first place.
I think the scene itself is beautifully written, but it's odd how it becomes more about Persephone simply wanting an "easy way out" of TGOEM, not just in the 'decision' to have sex (i.e. she was coerced and assaulted) but later when she tries to get out of TGOEM, like... is it because she wants to actually date guys, or is it because she doesn't feel like she "deserves" to be in TGOEM anymore due to the assault? The story tries in some places to explore this but never commits to it fully so it's really hard to know what point it's trying to make at times when you actually peel back the layers.
Really the biggest reasons I 'suspect' Rachel of not intending to write a genuine SA plot from the very beginning is because of how... 'back of mind' it is. It only seems to be brought up whenever Rachel can be bothered to remember, but then it's completely juxtaposed against scenes where it should affect her (or reasonably would) and it doesn't. Case in point, a few episodes after she tells Eros what happened and he confirms it was rape, he tries to convince her to go into Hades' office dressed in a trenchcoat and nothing else underneath and it's like bro... this girl just told you what she went through, why are you suggesting she try to seduce her boss who she doesn't even really know yet LOL
As a result , it really does just make it feel like the SA scene is just there to make Apollo an easy villain, and Hades an easy hero, with the only definitions being "well, Hades didn't assault her, so he's definitely the better choice!" (as if Apollo was ever a 'choice' to begin with, Persephone didn't like him from day 1 so there was basically no chance of there being a love triangle setup except for the audience members who quickly latched onto that "I guess he's cute if you squint a little" line). And with the way episodes are chopped up, separating points of the narrative from each other, it feels like whenever stuff does happen (esp surrounding the SA plot) it's because Rachel's finally bought herself enough time to come up with something, like the therapy episode, Eros confirming it was assault, Persephone stealing the lyre with the intent of hiding it from Apollo (only to then willingly show it to him alone in her bedroom with him a handful of episodes later), etc.
If she did intend to write an SA scene from the beginning, it doesn't feel like she thought the plotline through fully to make it actually feel genuine (and this goes for a lot of the subplots in LO, they always seem to start off as these base "get your attention" ideas but with no actual follow through). And with Apollo now being written as this "huehue you fell right into my trap!" villain (and very poorly I might add) it just feels like the SA is now taking a backseat to, "Actually, Apollo is the bad guy because he wants to overthrow his dad or some shit. Forget the SA happened, I don't wanna write about it anymore."
All those points aside, I agree with you fully, if Rachel cared about what she was trying to write back when the SA was first shown, then that level of care definitely doesn't seem to be there anymore and it's such a shame to see. It just feels like it's being used for artificial drama and nothing more and that's so frustrating and disappointing for many of the SA victims who are critical of this story (including myself) to see when that plotline originally felt like comforting visibility.

Pick A Card: Past Life Edition
Hello!! I came back with another pick a card reading involving, this time, past life themes. This reading will be a general one in which I’ll describe the general life, lessons (learned and unlearned) and obstacles they had to face so take what resonates and, please, enjoy.
Now, take a few breaths to calm down, close your eyes if you need it, and then choose the option that captures your attention.
Tumblr media
Pile 1.
(Native American, 8 of Diamonds or The Key in Lenormand, Carrot, Virgo, September, Knight of Pentacles in reverse, 4 of Cups, 4 of Pentacles, 10 of Swords, 2 of Cups).
Welcome pile 1 to your reading!! In your past life, you were a native American man who were born under in the month of September or under Virgo season. Now, being a native American doesn’t mean that you had to be necessarily from the United States territory, you could have even lived in Tierra del Fuego or in the Caribbean, but it still can be a possibility. I see with these cards that you lived surrounded by mountains or valleys, far away from the sea in general, and lived from what the earth naturally offered.
Now, I see different scenarios here so take what resonates. The first one is that your secure life at the tribe was boring for you, it seemed as if there was nothing exciting or new inside the world of the tribe. You wanted to see new things, to seek some action, to explore things beyond what your current life offered, to gain success. It is very clear that you had a lot of confidence in that lifetime but, one day, you took the chance by either escaping or going to war, passing away at a young age due to either an accident you had while going away or by the war. You left behind a lover or some connections who truly loved you. Either way, for some, in that lifetime you learned how to take a chance despite the possible dangers out there that could hurt you or even kill you. For others, you learned how many of those naïve ambitions for greatness and seeking things outside can destroy us in the end or block us from seeing what we already have. This is the lesson you didn’t achieve in that past life. Despite having a loving family or a loving partner who loved you deeply, you didn’t think about them when you left. You thought only on what you didn’t have or what you still had to achieve that there was no acknowledge of how much they meant for you until you lost them because of your death.
The other scenario I see is basically the same as the last one but with the difference that, instead of being born in a tribe, you were an explorer who travelled to America in died trying to achieve success there. The 1500s or 1600s are strong numbers for this pile.
Another scenario I see is that, just like the first option, you were a native American that was a slave and lived to served a richer family in which you worked in the farm. I don’t know why I thought of Brazil and those plantations of sugar or tabaco but, if you feel a strong connection to that place, this could be the reason. You were unhappy with the conditions you lived in and tried, eventually, to escape from the place that kept you captive, no matter if you left behind friends or family, but you were discovered and killed while trying to do so. The lessons for this group are the same. You learned to follow your call, your ambition, and to break those chains but, in the process, you didn’t think fully on the people left that depended on you to survive, especially if you were a married man with a family.
This is all I have for you pile 1, I hope it resonated.
Pile 2
(Celtic, Queen of Spades or The Bouquet in Lenormand, Hand, July, Sun, Knight of Swords, 4 of Swords, The Hermit, Queen of Cups, 5 of Swords)
Welcome to your reading pile 2!! Let’s dive into your past life reading.
Ok, this pile speaks to me as a highly feminine and spiritual one that may have had many past lives on earth, other dimensions, or it’s just an old soul in general. Why? Because the past life that came to me comes from very ancient times. It comes from the Celtic times so, if you feel connected to ancient cultures such as this one, then this is a confirmation that your soul lived through those times and in those cultures.
In that past life, you were a woman born in July or under the sign of Cancer who lived a peaceful life surrounded by nature and your loved ones. You were an emphatic person, a caring person, always with the energy and compassion to offer a helping hand to those who needed you. A healer, shaman, medium, these are one of the few words that are coming strongly for this pile. Maybe you learned, or your family in that life helped you, to use natural herbs or flowers to heal other people, to connect with ancestor so you could share messages from them to your close ones.
Anyway, from very early on, you displayed an astonishing interest in nature and the things that lived under the same sun as you. You were interested in getting to know de hidden side of things, to discover the potential use of the things that surrounded you, and to connect with energies beyond the physical real, that’s why, with time, you were considered one of the wisest members of your family. People kept coming to you for advice and, since you had a very big heart, you never said no to anyone. Maye in this lifetime people still come to you for advice even if you are young or others consider you inexperienced. Well, perhaps your actual body doesn’t seem to have enough experience but your soul have, so the wisdom you showed came from many lifetimes of experience.
Connecting with spirits, plants, and animals could have been some abilities you developed in that past life along with the knowledge of how to use some plants as a medicine so, if one of those resonates with you, then take it as a confirmation.
In that past life, you learned how to connect with your feminine side, with the intuitive, creative, and loving side of creation. Of mother Earth. Wow!! Seriously, this pile is a very powerful one with the level of evolution that it can be seen. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you incarnated in this time on Earth to increase her vibration and help those souls who are struggling so they can evolve as well. Now, the only unresolved lessons I can see here is that some of you feel conflicted each time you are not able to provide help for someone, due to circumstances or lack of knowledge, and you must learn that it is OK to say NO. If you can’t help somebody due to whatever reason, then don’t feel bad about it. We are humans. It is impossible to help all the people in the world. Besides, there is some lessons that people need to learn on his own.
That is all I have for you, pile 2. I hope it resonated and see you soon in another pick a card.
Pile 3
(Arts, Queen of Diamonds or Crossroads in Lenormand, Rolling Pin, November, January, 2 of Wands, The High Priestess, Page of Wands, The Hanged Man, 3 of Wands)
Welcome, pile 3, to your reading!!
In a past life, you were someone who was really interested in the arts, being that either painting, dancing or singing. Either that or you had a talent of some sort that you wanted to explore or share in relation to the arts. Sex here doesn’t look clear in this spread as it happened with the other piles, but that doesn’t matter in this case. The most important thing here is the rest of the story.
Anyway, you could have been a very pragmatic, realistic or private person with the January and November cards (those are months in which Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius lies on) but also a very unique and fiery personality who wanted to pursue his/her interest. You wanted to build something from your passion, to be happy and successful by doing what you liked, but it seems like you had to face many crossroads in your life to make a jump like that. And part of that crossroads may had come from the inner fears that you carried inside. This is especially true if you were a Capricorn because these individuals, when they are not developed properly, tend to be extremely realistic, pessimistic, can have a perfectionist tendency, so, at the end of the day, they tend to sabotage themselves more rather than help.
Now, having a realistic approach and planning your steps is a good quality to have too, especially if those areas have little source of income in comparison to other careers, and I won’t ignore the fact that life sometimes presents some obstacles of different categories that will turn our attention somewhere, but waiting too long for the perfect opportunity or scenario will soon turn into an excuse that hides the real motive of these delays: fears. Fears of not being good enough. Fears of failing. These fears kept you away of pursuing your dream so, during the rest of your life, you lived trying to imagine what your life would be like if only you had followed your passion. What could have been like. Amazing or a nightmare. A success or a failure. Every option came by your eyes each time the imagination of the what if’s returned.
In that life, you learned how to look things through different perspectives. You learned to be cautious, to make plans and don’t rush into things, to keep a suspicious approach before deciding anything and to think things through when an offered appeared in your life. That’s ok. But if you let those guarded feelings prevent you to take steps on any direction then it will backfire and increase those fears so, the general lessons of pile 3 requires, while making plans to make your ambitions a reality, to take steps forward. You must work along with the Universe in order to make your manifestations a reality. For example, if you want to become an author, first you must write a story. Then, send it to an editorial or sharing some samples with others so the book can be read by others. Writing a story and then doing nothing as if you are expecting to be published next day will not work. I’m sorry if this sounded kind of harsh but it is just an example to make clear where I’m going when I talk about taking steps.
That’s all I have for you pile 3. I hope it resonated and see you soon in another pick a card pile.

✿。PAC : Why do people fall in love with you 。✿
Hello everyone ✿ !! How are you guys doing? Personally I have been doing just fine. Happy Eid to all the Muslim people celebrating it I hope you all had a great time.
Since I just got out of school I decided to get back to this account and retry this pick a card thingy (it's my second so far) because I find it to be really entertaining !
Keep in my that this is a general reading for entertainment purposes only, take what resonates leave what doesn't of course, if you want a personal reading hit my ask box I am reopening my free readings ^^ !
Without further due here are the piles :
Tumblr media
Pile 1
Hello Pile one, welcome to your reading! Let me start off by saying that you guys have options. That message is loud and clear, and most of you know you do. This pile also feels like the pile of people who have a social media following or are very active on social media/ their community. You people know that you are the shit and no one can tell you otherwise. People love that in you, they can see how much love you have for yourselves and that you know your worth, and at the same time you are playful and fun.
When I think of you I have the word royalty in mind. You guys are quick to cut out people who are not up to your standards and you tend to treat people fairly. As I said you might be the pile who has a lot of suitors but that doesn't make you a player, quite the contrary you might be the type to only and exclusively focus on your love interest despite having other people begging for your attention. You guys are very selective with who you give your attention to and that makes your lover feel extremely special.
Your intelligence is also very attractive, people love how well read  and articulate you are, it adds to your air of confidence and majesty. Your lovers are in awe of having such a diamond.
Literal bad bitches keep it up !!
I just want to say as a note that for a first pull your energy was just wow I aspire to be as confident and hot as you pile 1
Song : Sure Thing - Miguel
Pile 2
Hello Pile two, welcome to your reading! So this pile's message came clearly too. This is the life lover material pile. People fall in love with how tranformative your energy is, your love brings healing and peace to your lover when they treat you right but it also brings chaos when there is healing that needs to be done. Your energy is not for the weak let me tell you that lmao. But I can tell you that your love is very strong.
Your love feels like a divine union to them. People might see you and think we're meant to be together, you are the one I want to be with forever. Your energy feels stable and unstable at the same time because I feel like you can be a very devoted lover but that doesn't mean you don't want your partner to evolve and grow. You triggrer in them the desire to change and heal, you trigger your lovers' growth.
You can also be the kind of person who doesn't surround themselves with a ton of people, you might appear alone in a crowded room and that draws your lovers in, they discover that under your colder exterior or more aloof exterior there is a very loving and giving person. People can tell you that you don't talk a lot put that just makes them want to know what in lying under your calmness. They want to read your mind.
Song : Lotus Flower Bomb - Wale
Pile 3
Hello Pile three, welcome to your reading! I am going to be honest, I had more difficulty with this pile because I feel like some of you tend to attract disappointing lovers. You guys are often seen as very feisty and exciting, you might be a flirt, some see you as a temptation even, but many of the people who come talk to you fail to understand that you guys can have a more traditional view of relationships. You want commitment yet attract those who aren't capable of providing it. Which can create a sense of frustration in the relationship.
I think it's a bit weird from the people who come to you but most are imediately sexually attracted to you. You guys have very focused minds especially in conflicts, you tend to know exactly what to say, and it sounds weird but people love that, they love to create tension between you two, I am sorry it's a very bizarre energy.
Those lovers tend to look back at you and feel a sense of incompletion, they feel as though they took you for granted, which I think they did to be honest, they themselves feel incomplete, they go to you hoping that you will fill the void or be the missing part in their puzzle. You appear to have your shit together and can fix their lives or at least give them a great time but you are worth more than that.
I really want to tell you guys that you are enough, you are great and lovable, you don't need those kinds of people in your life.
Song : Love - Keyshia Cole
Pile 4
Hello Pile four, welcome to your reading! For you guys I think people fall in love with trying to figure you out. They like the challenge that comes with learning who you are. And I think for most you really test your lovers, you are the kind of person who won’t shy away from giving someone the silent treatment if they wrong you. I don’t know why I hear that they know you can leave them eventually? or they already see you leaving?
There is something that makes them feel like they can’t fully trust you, you might attract people with an anxious attachment style, and they are scared of you leaving at some point. They might think that you are strategic and discrete when it comes to achieving your goals. you also appear to be a very goal oriented person.
Most of your lovers see great potential in you and can see that you are the type of person who isn’t afraid of changing to plan B if plan A isn’t working. They admire your way of handling crisis and difficulty and would try to overcome everything to get to you.
Song : Clouded - Brent Fayez
Pile 5
Hello Pile five, welcome to your reading! Hey heartbreakers, how are you doing?;)?
Most people fall in love with how you break their hearts lmao. I think for most of you people
your suitors think they can depend on you, you might appear dependable. People have this idea on their mind that you are going to be someone they can get attached to but you refuse their codependency. Those people might get addicted to your energy even, it’s weird but your lack of commitment drives them mad?
Some people really think that they can “have you”? And I mean in the way of always being able to rely on you and come back to you whenever they want, but you don’t follow through with the script they made. You are not the one to stay and wait for someone to come back to everytime they feel like it. You seperate from those who project their expectation onto you and leave them hurt.
Girlboss lmao
Song : Wet Dreams - J Cole

still cant get over travailshipping. i remember when you first tested the waters with it (which i believe was some time before the tpiag chapters started coming out?) and at first i thought it was pretty funny. ark slowly but surely falling headfirst for twig, who if she had a tagline it would be "if i could turn my feelings into weapons, mine would be a goddamn nuclear bomb", and her at first just being oblivious to it and thinking that the letters that expressed love and care that were written in cursive in her mailbox were just funny and she wanted to show them to ark with the guy just looking at her with the most "well that backfired in the weirdest way possible". but when tpiag finally ended i finally connected the dots as to why these two are just. augh. i wont go into detail here in your askbox but i wanna know is: HOW DID YOU DO IT. HOW DO YOU KEEP MAKING SUCH GOOD IDEAS FOR THE FUNNY DIGITAL ANIMALS. TELL ME.
(thinking to myself) "Ugh I should stop posting so much travailshipping stuff... It's probably so annoying to everyone who sees it. I feel bad for my poor followers. I'll check my inbox real quick and then commit to shaking up my content by—" *gets obliterated by your niceness*
Oh man. I remember posting that poll where I hesitantly described a possible Darkrai/Twig pairing in the tags while proposing Twig/Kip as an alternative route, despite it not being the direction I wanted to take the characters, because I was so scared of what people’s reactions might be. If I remember right, I posted it a little bit before I had just barely reached 5k words in the first draft of TPiaG.
I've been trying to write up detailed responses to how I come up with good ideas for travailshipping in particular, but there's one rule I use that defines everything after it and speaks for all of them: I have fun with the characters.
That's it. That's the rule. If I don't want to write a subject, I don't. I stick with what I find enjoyable and resonant. Does a joke make me laugh? Does a scene make me cry? Does a villain make me punch a hole in my wall? Does a cute gesture make me squeal? If so, then into the project it goes. I think people can feel when someone is having fun with their work, and that fun radiates out into their own experience consuming that work. It's like laughter— joy is something we're sharing with others as long as we feel it. Fun is contagious.
Also: when you don't force yourself to make things you hate, you attract people who like the same things as you. These people will find your work even more fun— because not only did you have fun making it, they're having double fun consuming it.
An important tangent I'll go off on is that I think that every creative project idea is a good idea. There's so many beloved bizarro ideas in the world, even the ones who try to be cool about how weird their premises are. There's this weird show where the main character works as a service industry worker in an underwater setting that's ruled by a Roman deity— he lives in a piece of fruit, and his pet gastropod makes cat noises. This show sounds like word salad garbage on paper and could be tossed out for its nonsensical nature, and yet SpongeBob SquarePants has made Nickelodeon over $13 billion dollars and is a treasured part of many childhoods. There's also a character who spends his time locked in intellectual and physical combat with a wannabe clown and wears a costume with bat ears while doing it. Batman's been an icon for over 80 years.
All of this is to say:
Ideas are always good ideas by virtue of existing. They don't derive their goodness from external sources. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Make more of what you love. Don't make things you hate making.
If you have fun while making the thing, people will have fun while they consume the thing's content.
I hope this makes sense. I didn't touch on idea generation as much as embracing existing ideas. Fingers crossed that was the right response. I'd just woken up from a nap as I was writing it, so hopefully it's not too meandering and managed to answer the question and—
— Oh shoot. Was that a hypothetical question??? Uh. Sorry if I went off on this rant when you were just trying to voice your niceness. Oops. 🫥

//Let me In// (Azriel x F!Reader x OC)
A/N: this is something very new to me, something that i'm still trying out so bear with me. I've got this idea to bring other characters to a side Azriel story, sometimes following the events from the books sometimes not.
SUMMARY: Destiny is a cruel thing, bringing together two people who seem to still be hung up in the past.
WARNINGS: Angst, slow burn.
SIDE NOTE: English isn't my first language so I apologize for any grammar mistakes.
I don't know how I feel about this chapter :/

Dawn Court (Vol.3)
Gold-rose and soft lilac skies welcomed me as I winnowed right into the beautiful gardens of the Dawn Court's mountain palace. I was feeling nauseous and probably looked just the part, because next thing I know two winged guards were instantly by my side as I made my way to the stairs of the Grand Palace. They recognised me as the emissary of the Night Court's political issues, though as a Theran I was always welcomed at the Dawn Court. Apparently the courtiers seemed to enjoy having an "exotic" guest walking among them. It was exciting, i'm guessing, for the many rumors that had extended all across Prythian about the gifts my people possesed.
Some tales were spread through the centuries about us, it was said that we had the gift to predict the future, to turn things into gold, to stop time, and more. The theories were actually hilarious, no doubt some Therans had benefit from them at some point. But the truth is, they didn't know half of it. All that Prythian knew about us were our skills in battle but they couldn't tell how deep our power actually run. We came as harmless, friendly travellers and often got away with it.
To the High Lord of Dawn I was his guest first, emissary second; I'd made sure to always have good relations with other Courts, despite the one I was serving in. I was trained to do so, people tended to be less hostile around those who they trusted, and I made sure to built my reputation around their preferences, even when it meant feeding those ridiculous rumors. Thera was clossed off to the world, meaning no one that wasn't born there could ever find its warded lands, but it didn't mean that we couldn't go out into other territories. As a matter of fact, Thera wasn't really interested in the fae world, its main concern relied solely in learning how much they knew about us. And too make sure it all stayed the same. No one really wanted to initiate a war with the fae.
Now, did all of this implicate that the High Lords trusted blindly in me? Absolutely not. They were very reserved about what they let on around me, mostly because I was at the service of the terrible High Lord of Night, but I didn't care. Once inside there was nothing I couldn't obtain. Indeed ever the wolf dressed as sheep.
Thesan was waiting upstairs alongside his lover on one of the many open gallerys of the glistening castle. There seemed to be a lot of movement around the place, servants came and went hurriedly carrying clothing, decorations, flowers and many different pastries. Murmuring resonated through the long hallways; a party, they were preparing for a party.
"Ah, welcome back to my home, lovely lady" Thesan greeted with a polite smile, stepping away from his lover. The Peregryns flanked both my sides watching carefully as if I was about to give in and faint at any moment.
"Are you hurt?" The High Lord inquired.
I swallowed dry. Running away from Azriel as soon as the mating bond had snapped into place had drained me to exhaustion. A pounding headache and increasing nausea threatened to knock me off, as if every instinct of my body was warning me to go back to him. The bond felt stronger, brighter inside and harder to ignore. I fought to hide it, to mask the lingering scent. Was it supposed to be this intense?
"No, my Lord, just tired." I muttered lowly. "Thank you for recieving me" I said and bowed my head.
"My dear, I hope they're not overworking you at that Court. You're always welcomed to stay with us." Thesan offered "Now come, you should rest before the party beggings. We shall discuss whatever business tomorrow" He cut a glance at the servants passing by to indicate them to show me my room on the guest wing.
As an emissary I had written to the High Lord a week prior to my visit claiming I had urgent matters to discuss. I wasn't here as a friend of the Court, but as one of Rhysand's most trusted ambassadors, so it took me by surprise the eagerness with which they had invited me into one of their celebrations.
I didn't have enough energy to cuestion it so i just followed the faery into a beautiful large room with wide windows and flowy pinkish courtains. They left a change of clothes—more appropiate for a party than my Night Court formal attire— before silently making their way out. I dragged my feet across the warm coloured room and let myself fall face first into the soft silky matress of the plush bed. Everything here was so delicately decorated, from the lavender flowers resting in crystal clear jars beside the window where they would reflect the many colours of the early morning skies, to the hand-crafted chandeliers hanging from the opalescent stone of the ceiling. I let myself be lulled to sleep by the armony and beauty of it all, eager to turn off the whirlwind of emotions in my chest.
I woke up at the sound of light knocking on my door. The same faeries from before had come to run a bath for me and help me get ready for the night. I didn't fully register what was all the fussiness about, but they told me the Court was throwing a ball to celebrate their recently earned prosperity after Under the Mountain and to honour their newly arrived guest. They didn't say who it was but they shared a knowing playful look between them that left me feeling unsettled. I got dressed in a light pink gown with embroidered flowers all across the heart-shaped corset top, and they braided small strands of my hair to the back of my head so the ashy coloured ones fell delicately on my face. I wasn't used to look so...soft, I was usually more on the edgy style, dark colours, more pronunced necklines and cuts to allow my body to move freely, and small metal pieces as an informal version of armour.
I got so used to the Night Court style that it just felt strange.
The ballroom was at its peak when I crossed the archway entry, glasses of sparkling wine flowed everywhere and cheerful music played all around the room just loud enough to accompany the dancing couples without killing the conversation. I wasn't particularly in the mood for partying given the circumstances, but I had to admit i was curious about this new visitor that had everyone so excited. So I stuck around for a while, making light conversation here and there and playing fortune teller just to please the wishes of the courtiers. When I grew tired of it I stepped into an open balcony resting my arms on top the banister to take in the whole beauty of the Dawn's country side, it reminded me so much of...
"It does make you feel a little homesick, huh?"
The scent hit me before the sound reached my ears; it was electric and dense like the air before a rainstorm. My breath got trapped in my lungs, eyes watering, when I caught the voice, low and deep and gentle. How long had it been since I last heard it? It took all the will inside of me not to let the tears fall as I so very slowly turn around to look at him. Tall, broad shoulders, dark brown hair, one eye of sky blue, the other like the darkest of nights; a thin scar run along the former. I was looking at a ghost, a very handsome ghost.
"Asta..." I muttered, voice quivering. I felt as if I was on the verge of breaking.
He gave me one of his signature stunning smiles while stepping further into the light. He wore a black button up tunic that let the golden skin of his toned arms show, a black inked tattoo swirled around his bicep in intricated runes. The twin to the one on my right arm.
"How is it possible?" I couldn't control the thundering of my heartbeat against my ribs.
"I can't believe you're real either" He confessed. No one dared to move.
"Ah, fantastic! You've met." Came the voice of Lord Drystan's voice, one of the courtiers, that was walking toward us. "Y/N, this is our guest of honour tonight...Sir Asta has been kind enough these last couple of months helping our people get back in track after what happened. He says he comes from Thera as well, and was very eager to meet our beautiful fortune teller."
The Lord went on and on but I couldn't take my eyes off the man standing before me, too afraid he would dissappear if I closed my eyes. Everyone else just blurred, fading away in the background; it was just him and I in that moment.
"Well, I'll leave you two to get to know each other then" Lord Drystan gave us a mischevious grin, noticing that none of us was actually listening, before going back to the ball.
"Sir..huh?" I smirked, blinking away the dampness of my eyes. He let out a breathy laugh.
"I still find it awkward, all the mannerisms" He explained vaguely. Asta looked at me up and down, smiling proudly when he caught eye of the necklace I wore. "You still have it" he said, amusement dancing on his eyes.
"Of course" I took the small moon in between my fingers "you gave it to me."
"And you're wearing pink, that's two things I wasn't prepared for." He teased.
"Ah, it took me by surprise too. I don't think it's my colour though." I replied surveying the luxurious fabrics of the gown.
"Every colour is your colour. You look beautiful in everything" His hand found my forearm still resting on the banister, the touch was warm as he caresed smooth circles on my skin.
Asta always felt like the sun, warm and bright, and mighty. He kept it hidden beneath that dark mysterious aura of him, the one he put on display for outsiders. But to anyone who truly knew him, he was the kindest soul you could ever cross paths with. People back home loved him, rightly so.
"I thought you were..."I shook my head, the memories quickly flooding my mind "I found your mask buried under a pile of Loyalists, your jabalin was just a few feet away." My voice came out muffled and I didn't dare avert my gaze from our hands.
"It's a long story, and I promise to tell you about it any other day." He searched my eyes "For now I just want to—can I..?"
I didn't let him finish that sentense and threw my arms around him, burying my face on his chest. His arms wrapped around me almost instantly and he rested his chin atop my head.
"I've missed you so much Y/N" he whispered against my hair.
------------------------------------------------------------
I was still processing what I've learned about what went down for our people at the War against the Loyalists; we had been sold out by one of our own, as a result Asta's entire clan had been decimated and our village had suffered at the hands of a Tyrant's regime. Asta and his brother Zadkiel had been forced to go back and they've been fighting to make things right ever since.
"I thought your body had been burned along with the rest, the Dark One told me you weren't a part of our world anymore" Asta had said to me just the night before, eyes full of tears. For five centuries we'd thought each other dead. For five centuries I've mourned the death of my first love, and now he was standing just a few levels up, watching as I trained with Cassian, in the house I had shared with my mate.
I haven't told him about the whole Azriel situation yet, we hadn't had the chance to properly talk about it since we weren't granted a moment alone at Dawn's palace; the females of the court were always following Asta around, some of them even flirted shamelessly with him and he was just too polite to tell them to fuck off. I almost rolled my eyes at the memory.
"Why didn't you tell him?" Cassian asked as he trew a punch at me.
We've been sparring in the mornings outside the House of Wind since I got back from the Dawn Court three days ago. I honestly didn't know what to expect, the tension around the group was dense, Mor barely even looked at me. Azriel was out on duty, at least I didn't have to face him right away. It still made my heart sunk to my stomach.
"You know why." I answered dodging his fist and going for his legs. "Tall, blonde, gorgeous, rings a bell?"
He stopped my kick midway and threw me back a couple of steps.
"He's your mate."
"Doesn't change anything"
"It changes everything and you know it. You're just being a coward."
I was gettin' more worked up by the second and he knew it, Cassian was provoking me just to get me to let go of all that had happened in the past week.
Well, it was working. I concentrated half of my power on my right fist when he got close again and punched him square on his jaw. He turned around wincing in pain.
"It's not fair Cassian."
"You left without saying a word. He looked as if you had kicked him across the face. I think that would've been more merciful"
Cassian picked up his sword from the ground and pointed it at me, so I grabed my own blade and for a few seconds we just sized each other up.
"What was I supposed to do?" I asked, at this point anger took over me.
"Not running away again." He swung his sword at me and the sound of iron on iron cut through the air.
"You don't get it" I spat. He pushed harder against the grip on my sword.
"Explain then" Cassian gave me a wolfish smile, he was confident he'd win.
"I've watched him love the same woman for five hundred years. I've dealt with everything he was feeling for almost half a century" I kicked him on the knee and used the distraction to make him drop the weapon. Then I used his own strenght against him and threw him on his ass, the edge of my own blade pressed against his chest. "and she was standing right there. So tell me, Cassian, how cruel I've been to him." I narrowed my eyes at him in defiance. "I'll ask you again, what do you think I was supposed to do?"
He didn't try to get up, his eyes softened a bit.
"Talk to each other, you're good for him."
I withdrew my sword back.
"And what about what's good for me?" My voice came out like a whisper as I catched my breath.
"I've never seen anyone kick Cassian's ass like that" Feyre spoke walking toward us.
Right, this was supposed to be a fighting lesson for her.
"You've never seen Amren fight then" I told her half smiling. She laughed.
"I don't mean to meddle in your business, given that we don't know each other that well, but Azriel he's one of the good ones, you know? And I think you're too." Her tone was gentle, understanding. "I saw something that day back in the Town House, the way his eyes shone when you smiled at him.."
I felt my throat close in on itself, I couldn't allow myself to get the wrong idea, to start wondering about the what ifs; because even if there was something there, he still loved another woman. And I... I was still trying to figure out how I felt for him and where I stood with Asta. It had felt so good to be wrapped in his arms, to laugh together, spend time together; making up for lost time. Asta and I, we had always belonged to each other, no one understood me like him and he claimed the same about me; we were best friends, we made sense. For a long time a part of me thought he was my mate, but we were too young then for the bond. I guess that part of me refused to let that thought go. Accepting the bond with Az meant loosing Asta a second time.
"I know about Mor" she continued "and that it can be intimidating. I'm also guessing the handsome male upstairs is to you what Mor is to Azriel" she lifted a brow "but I still think you should talk, sort it out, see what he has to say. He cares for you, that much I know, and he'll respect whatever you decide."
"He comes back tonight." Cassian informed "For the record, I think you know what you want, you're just too afraid to take it."
I watched as they went back to training, and let their words sink in deep. I couldn't keep avoiding Az, he didn't deserved it. Even if he ended up rejecting me, even if it break my heart.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I couldn't get any sleep that night. I've been staying in the House Of Wind for the time being instead of my own place while Asta stuck around. I knew he'll have to go back to Thera at some point.
The evening had been...emotional, to say the least. I was feeling overwhelmed by everything and ended up crying in silence in the small private library room. Now I lied on the couch, legs stretched out one on top of the other, head resting in one hand while I flipped through the pages of some book. I'd stopped paying attention to it about twenty minutes ago, it was well past midnight and still no signs of Azriel. I didn't really expected for him to show up here but not knowing wether he was ok or not had my anxiety building up. I knew Rhys had sent him to look for any weaknesses on the wards that sorrounded the human Queens lands.
"What are you doing still up?" His voice hit me so suddenly that I almost dropped the book I was holding. I have been so caught up in my own thoughts that I didn't see the shadows taking form.
He was leaning against the doorframe, wings tucked in tight, arms crossed over his chest. His scent filled the air between us, cedar and mist, I let it invade my senses. He was alright.
"I couldn't sleep...you hadn't came back yet." I muttered not trusting my voice.
"Now you know how I felt for two weeks while you were gone to the Winter Court."
Before I could open my mouth to reply he cut me off with a knowing look. "Don't give me that spies-web bullshit again. You belong to me. Bond or not." He stated. "To all of us in fact. You're part of this family and I can't stand the thought of something happening to you."
My heart was thrumming wildly inside my ribcage and I feared I would burst into tears again.
"I'm sorry" I breathed out. I didn't know what else to say.
He crossed the room and sat down next to me. Azriel was extremely calm and I couldn't tell if that was a good sign or not, he had a tendency to hide his emotions. Pretty much like me. And he had a shield up at his end of the bond.
"How long?" he asked so low it sounded barely above a whisper. "For how long have you known?" He wasn't looking at me, he was staring at his feet. Head hanging between his shoulders.
I swallowed dry. "Forty years"
"So that night on the rooftop...?" He let out a deep sigh "Did you ever consider I deserved to know?"
I shook my head. I didn't know if I wanted to run from him, from the feelings that hung heavily on my chest, or if I wanted to drop to my knees to beg him for his forgivness.
"What would you have done then?" I asked but looked away from him, making myself much more smaller in my place. "I'm not stupid, Az. I know you love her. Even if you don't admit it to yourself."
"You don't know what you're talking about." His tone was more severe now. "Are you really going to pretend this has nothing to do with the male sleeping next door?"
Of course he knew about Asta.
When I didn't say anything he asked again.
"Do you wish it was him?"
It hurt and hurt and hurt all over, it felt like a hole the size of a crater had ripped open my chest.
"Do you wish it was her?" My voice quivered by the end and he finally look at me.
Glossy eyes that mirrored mine stared back at me for a long minute but he didn't say anything. Instead he leaned over and pressed a featherly like kiss to my forehead, so soft I thought I was imagining it.
"Goodnight, Y/N." he muttered before winnowing away into shadows.

On gender: sometimes I wonder if I'm actually nonbinary or if I just want to be alt and am doing it to break away from my parents' expectations. It's so frustrating to the point it's caused me partially not to come out to certain people because like. what if I'm wrong? And that sort of implicit disapproval masked as concern is so. It's so hard to confront anyone about it because of how it's framed.
I think the good and bad thing about both gender and identifying with a subculture is that there's not a strict set of rules you must fulfill to "join" either. But that means that you can come and go freely in any if you want to, or stay with one/a few forever. Whichever is more comfortable.
way more under the cut bc i started talking and never stopped 🤠
I can't speak on the nb experience because I've never identified as it or thought I was nb, but I can at least speak on why I'm not nb AND why I resonate with alternative subcultures all the same. I really resonated with alternative subcultures bc of the music and political ideologies but also because growing up I consistently never felt like I fit in with other girls around me. They all presented or acted in ways that just didn't click with me, to the point where I thought something was wrong with me for it. I didn't have the word or the idea that a girl could look like something else, so I dressed like they did bc I thought that's what I was supposed to do as a girl (but also my parents forced gender roles on me so it's not like i had a choice). I didn't get how others could like what they were wearing and feel comfortable in it. But then I started dressing "edgier" (when i got older) and all of a sudden I understood.
But the key here is I didn't ever feel like I wasn't a girl despite not resonating with the girls at school. And I can't exactly articulate that bc gender is so personal but I just know that I felt proud of female accomplishments in history and wanted to follow in their footsteps, I felt a social connection to girls and didn't feel "othered" (besides them liking how they dressed and i didnt), and when nb people started appearing in my life I didn't connect w them in that way or wish to be like them (in the sense like, I didn't want to "present" like them* or say my pronouns were they/them or whatever "precursors" there are to being nb). I've also heard that some nb people before realizing they are nb is they feel uncomfortable when they are indirectly called a girl or boy in a group of afab/amab people by a professor/teacher/adult/whatever saying "hey girls/boys!" and I never had that issue.
* = nb people present in a variety of ways and it's not a one size fits all, I just mean generally if I saw someone with they/them pronouns I wasn't like *kicking my feet* I want that
But like tldr, despite alt subcultures and being nb being similar in the idea that you're breaking society's expectation of [something], I could recognize I felt ok in the broad woman gender box while also feeling not ok in a specific gender presentation box. And that's all easy to say now that i went through my Self Expression Arc but it's a lot of trial and error, soul searching, Thinking, crying, observing others... until you begin to get a semblance of who u might be.
But like back to feeling like you're "faking it," ig something I've learned is that even if you're faking it, that doesn't negate your time labeling as That Thing (ie using certain pronouns and backtracking) and no one that matters will be pissed off that you backtracked. We're all figuring that shit out and if someone wants to be weird about it, whatever lol. Ig my advice is just do whatever you're comfortable with, come out to as many or as few people as you'd like to, and if you still feel Wrong ("they/them doesn't feel right to me anymore") then don't be afraid to try on a new set of pronouns or change up your style a bit. Unfortunately a lot of finding out yourself is just trial and error until something sticks.
I hope my experience/advice helps clear up some things and maybe others can comment too if they want, ie nb people that can fill in the gaps that I can't fill. Much love ❤️

Disruptors, change-makers and boundary-pushers excite us with their diverse perspectives on art and life. Jeff Satur is one trailblazing storyteller whose unique story fascinates and inspires. Since picking up the guitar at the age of nine, the Bangkok-born singer-songwriter, producer and actor has lent his soulful voice to gorgeous ballads whose joy and heartbreak resonate with listeners—assisted by a consummate musicality that draws on a rich, varied vein of experience. Below, Satur shares with Apple Music some insights into his career as an artist from Southeast Asia on the world stage.
What challenges have you faced while pursuing a career in music?
“I think music is the only thing that can bring people together as one unit, creating a shared energy that inspires happiness and a sense of release in their lives. It’s almost like a form of medicine, unlike anything else in the world. Music helps you through difficult times and can alleviate sadness, especially when experiencing live concerts. For me, writing music is a chance to fulfil my purpose, as if I was born to do it—and it places me in the right environment. I have also learned that there is no definitive ‘right’ choice when it comes to music. You won’t know if it’s the best choice until you genuinely enjoy it. It’s like a challenge to stay dedicated and not drift away from your passion. So you just keep going for it.”
Can you share a moment when you felt like giving up on your dreams and what ultimately motivated you to keep going?
“I remember getting older, around 25 years old, and experiencing a wrong feeling that led me to consider quitting music due to the pressures of growing up. I had to get a job to earn money, and at that point, I didn’t believe that releasing a song would improve anything. Live shows and concerts had come to a halt, but despite those challenges, I remained determined to focus on my music. It was my primary source of motivation. I pushed myself to continue, even if the results weren’t perfect. To keep my inspiration alive, I attended movies and concerts, seeking more motivation to write—and seizing any opportunity that came my way.”
As a Southeast Asian artist, what unique cultural influences do you incorporate into your music?
“For me, there are no boundaries when it comes to creating music. In my song ‘Dum Dum’, I use traditional instruments that resonate with my identity and feel authentic. These instruments evoke the sounds I remember from my childhood, tapping into instincts that seem inherent, like an innate drawing that you’ve had since birth. Incorporating these instruments into my music is a way of expressing what I truly desire and wish to explore.”
Have you faced any specific challenges or opportunities as a Southeast Asian artist in the global music scene?
“I used to follow a certain pattern but I’ve learned how to distinguish myself from others because everyone’s style is unique. Why is it different? It’s because I’ve learned from series I’ve watched, songs I’ve been into, and books I’ve read. I try to be as authentic to myself as possible because I believe I’ve already internalised those influences and now want to share my true self with others without fearing judgment.”
Can you share any advice or encouragement for aspiring artists who may face similar challenges?
“As an artist in the global music scene, it’s crucial to leverage your unique background to set yourself apart. There are no boundaries between languages or challenges I’ve faced so far. While Thai may not be as familiar to many when writing music, I remain true to myself. I’ve explored both Western and Asian music and they have intermingled within me, allowing me to create something original that resonates with people—and the melodies flow naturally. The impact these melodies have on people is what inspires me even more.
“To reach a broader global audience, I enjoy surprising myself—for instance, by releasing two versions of my songs. This continuous effort breaks down the boundaries, making them thinner and thinner. My advice? The world’s market is expanding and there’s a lot to discover in Asian music. I immerse myself in Thai music and music from other countries, drawing inspiration and making the music my own. It’s essential to ensure it sounds authentic to myself, as differentiation from others is vital. In the past, I used to fear my music wasn’t good enough, so I didn’t write or produce my own songs. However, I realised the importance of being myself and changed my attitude towards my career, writing my music and embracing my true identity.”

I’m sorry if you’ve already answered this or if the question is too personal, but I read that you grew up at a reform shul and I’m curious how you came to Orthodox Judaism. For context: I’ve been struggling with finding the Jewish tradition that I most resonate with and would love to hear your path. Thank you!
The least offensive and most normal asks always come from the most apologetic people. 😂
I would say that I grew up incidentally Reform, in that my family found ourselves in that movement not because of any conviction regarding its theology or mode of practice, and not after some kind of extensive investigation into the other available options, but because my mom isn't Jewish and this particular Reform shul was known for acceptance of interfaith families. We had previously been part of a program for interfaith families at the local JCC and a few of the families from that all joined the same shul.
Growing up, the Reform movement was sold to me as being so great because I could pick and choose the mitzvos that worked for/spoke to me. The problem was that there was no corresponding in-depth education regarding what I had to choose from. Although I attended Hebrew school for 5 years and then weekly services for another 4 years after that, I only learned about the existence of Shavuos for the first time my senior year of high school, for example, despite considering myself quite religious at that point in time. I don't think I even knew the word "halacha," let alone the halachos that might be applied to any given situation other than the most basic ("no pork" was one thing I knew - but I was a vegetarian at the time so that was moot anyway).
Nevertheless, I genuinely couldn't even have begun to imagine just how much I didn't know, and like I said, by the end of high school I considered myself quite religious. I was doing basically everything I knew about - more than almost any other Jew I knew, growing up in a very Jewish area - but I felt like something was missing. At the time, I believed that the missing piece was friends who were also religiously Jewish, since most of my Jewish peers at school were uninterested in engaging with Judaism on more than a cultural level.
So when I got to college, I immediately got involved in the campus Hillel. Now, many Hillels have really robust programming, but this particular Hillel did not. Shabbos programming only took place every other week. This was difficult for me to swallow, having attended Friday night services every week for years prior. And for the most part, the people I was meeting at Hillel were still more culturally than religiously invested in Judaism.
But there was one girl I met on Yom Kippur - the only other student who hung around the whole day - who seemed more interested in the religious side. One day, she suggested that on Hillel's next off week, we should go check out Chabad on Shabbos. I balked. I didn't really know anything about Chabad, except that I'd found their website before moving in for college, and clicked straight out of it after seeing their "myths and facts" page and included the following: "Myth or fact? Chabad only considers you Jewish if you're Orthodox. Myth! You are Jewish if your mother is Jewish or you convert to Judaism."
As I mentioned before, my mother isn't Jewish. I explained this to my new friend, and she pointed out that it was unlikely they were going to interrogate me at the door. We could just check it out and see.
I agreed to do so the Shabbos of chol hamoed Sukkos. I'd hardly ever eaten in a sukkah before - maybe just once or twice at my Conservative friend's house growing up. We never had a sukkah at home, nor had it been communicated to us at Hebrew school or otherwise that it was a typical thing for the average family to do (there was one on the premises of the shul, but no one really ate there - we went out during Hebrew school to look at it and that was about it). I loved it, and the warm feeling I got being there.
As time went on I kept having more moments like that: being exposed to knowledge or a practice, either by the shluchim themselves or by other people at the Chabad house, that I'd never known about before. And, well, I was Reform, and our whole shtick was that we did the mitzvos we liked, right? So I started doing that one, and I liked that one too, and that one, and that one was also for me. I realized that this was what I had been missing, not religious friends (well, also religious friends, but I don't think that would have been enough on its own).
But I was still Reform. Except I think at some point I slowly started realizing that I didn't really believe that these things were optional and up to me to choose; rather, since I had always believed that the Torah was directly from Hashem (although this was not what was taught in my shul), the logical conclusion was that when Hashem used it to say "do this" or "don't do that," He actually, you know, meant it. I also learned a lot more about the Oral Torah and the halachic system and just the frum lifestyle that explained things that hadn't made sense to me about Orthodoxy before, like not driving on Shabbos. And at a certain point it became clear that I was no longer aligned with the Reform movement in either theology or practice. That meant that I had to square with my halachic status as a patrilineal and eventually do a conversion, but that's another story.

FROZEN 3: Hans is much more needed after F2 ...
Tumblr media
After so many years, but, most importantly, after Frozen 2, one important misconception about what Frozen seems pretty clear to me: Frozen is NOT about kicking the bad guy ass, IS about the characters own feelings, traumas and insecurities.
So, why I feel like Hans has the potential to be better supported as a character, despite the fact that he was not in Frozen 2?
It's not purely a matter of personal liking, but also for narrative reasons: Frozen 2 needed to take Frohana through a new journey in order to mature, to go through a transformation (Change):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And working as the true aftermath of the 1st Frozen, most importantly for Anna & Elsa, who actually go through a even deeper and greater evolution rediscovering their family heritage and themselves:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During their journey, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff meet a series of other human characters meant to help them go foward with their path:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frozen 2 bases its plot on a series of mysteries (the Truth about the Past) and dangers (the Spirits) met in an uknown territory like the Enchanted Forest, so these new characters are there to give information, support and reflect how Anna, Elsa and Kristoff are evolving as people after the changes the Frozen ending brought, but also show each one of them going through a "different path" caused by their still unresolved insecurities, risking to break them apart if they are not careful:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way I've always seen it, Hans is a great bringer of tension for the characters, a tension that Frozen 2 couldn't allow itself to have, which is also related to another, very important choice by the directors for this movie:
Jennifer Lee: We weren't looking looking for a new situation and shaken up a new character whose was actually looking for an evolution, we wanted to complete their journey. [...] And we had fun with all the new characters, but there was just this thing when we strayed away, particularly from Anna and Elsa journey, it didn't resonate ...
This "vacant place" in Frozen 2 is filled by the Spirits and Ahtohallan, because we are following Elsa's narration (Action driven), about the sisters parents and about Arendelle's history, but this "disbalance" in the main human cast is, in many ways, a "plot point" to relfect the aftermath of F1 (as a recurring joke):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hans was CENTRAL in the first movie (which, you know, is the also first time we've ever seen any of these characters), but his real intension were shilded by other matters, primarly by Elsa's uncontrollable powers and the Duke of Weselton fear of magic, and his reveal is purely related to Anna, just as Elsa is the only character that has seen Ahthohallan. Not only Elsa's narration is very different from Anna's, but it's also defined by very different elements (magical spirits) compared to those of F1 (prince charming).
Right now, I believe the characters DO need a different element of tension to then develop and subvert, and Hans fills both the sisters narrations quite perfectly with this new status quo, but think alsoand of course Kristoff & Sven. And don't forget about Olaf and his growth in F2: many probably ignored that part, but Olaf felt anger for the first time in his brief life after Elsa "betrayed" him and Anna. Then imagine what would happen with someone like Hans, or even his family ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only a loveless and disfuctional family is an important and real theme, it's something that was clearly meant to resonate with Anna, Elsa and Kristoff in F1 (and in the Musical that is a much clearer point). Then, imagine how important this could be for Froahana now, for Anna and Elsa, whose parents did everything they could to protect and help them, even at the cost of their own lives. But also what they went through themselves during F2, and what could be the tension between them in a context like this.
And imagine how important it would be from a world-building prespective visiting the Southern Isles: its culture, its people, its history. It would be perfect for Anna now that she's Queen, visiting a neighborhood kingdom that is surely very different from her own, and even for Elsa, the Fifth Spirit, in a place where magic probably doesn't even exist, or has a different nature/history compared to that of Arendelle (where humans & magic equally co-exist) and, most importantly, to the Enchanted Forest (where magic overwhelms everything). And thinking about Kristoff, who would feel deeply pressured in such a place (Hans is a prime example himself), and probably his relationship with Sven would be ridiculed pretty easily:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, seeing 12 other princes in the Frozen universe could be quite a funny way to make many callbacks to Disney history, but also "help" Hans stand out much better because his older brothers are probably much more beautiful and "perfect" than he was during F1 ... And after F2 had all those characters, I'm pretty sure having 12 princes we've already heard about and all coming from the same kingdom should be easier Ha ha ha
I know these are all speculations, but I think Frozen 2 proved quite well that the directors know us fans have questions about the first movie, we're curious to know more about this world, and they can clearly get deeper, introduce new elements, but starting close to Anna & Elsa, just like they "brought back" Agnarr & Iduna under the spotlight even if they were dead.
Most importantly: this world is wider now, is full of new elements, with even a deep history. These things are not secondary, and can be used to handle things differently without losing the focus from the themes of family, trauma and solitude.

Out of No Man's Land, into Cry for Blood, plus a couple more comics for Renee before Officer Down next batch.
Endgame
I'm free from having to decide on context, woo!
Renee gets a promotion for how well she handled Two-Face.
The Honored Dead (Tec #742)
Renee gets partnered with Crispus Allen, who I hate infinitely less than Bullock. As far as cops go he's a pretty likeable character.
Batman/Huntress: Cry for Blood #1
YEAAAAAAH
Them! I love Helena so much, I love her and Batman's hostility, I love that Vic decides the best way to get in touch with her is to nearly get hit by her car. Iconic.
The art style's very different from the Question run, but it feels like it resonates with it somehow, and it might because they have the same colourist? I can't usually pin it down but there's a certain something about the smoke and mist. Maybe I'm drawing arbitrary connections to explain the vibes but it's the best I've got.
#2
She's SO pretty in this. Women!
I like it when Bruce is a huge bitch.
Drowning motif spotted.
Truly catastrophic "I can fix her" levels here.
#3
Extremely cute that Richard calls Vic "butterfly."
Honestly Helena is handling this extremely well, all things considered. Sure she's pissed but she's been kidnapped, that's entirely reasonable.
Wait hold on, Jackie's death gets retconned here! Somehow I missed that before, I don't know if that's on purpose or if Rucka just forgot/didn't know she died. Either way I'll take it.
#4
This is such a good telling of her backstory, it hits.
Road trip as bonding moment my beloved.
#5
Bruce hates Vic's ass so much for no reason other than because he's annoying. Fair enough.
Sorry girl you might not be part of the family but that will not stop Tim from having little brother energy.
Father-in-law behavior on Bruce's part tbh.
Renee pulls this exact same move in Lois Lane which is cute.
#6
Helena...
Can't get over Vic being described as a GQ candidate.
"When is it enough?" takes me out.
Vic taking off his mask to look her in the eye???
This is a Character Thesis Moment for both of them imo. Vic has fundamentally overlooked Helena's motives in his attempt to find solidarity - Helena knows exactly what the Huntress is here to achieve, despite her reservations and her willingness to seek balance. They're cute in JLU, but this was never going to work for them here.
Happy Birthday Two You (Tec #747)
This issue is a lot of what keeps me sold on Renee genuinely caring about Harvey's well-being, despite everything he's done and will continue to do. The tulips are pushing up against her boundaries, but Harvey didn't try to contact her directly or make it known they were from him. It's an attempt at doing an actual nice thing at a time when she's starting to slip, and clearly that matters to her enough that she's willing to take it in good faith and make an effort in kind, despite her annoyance at Bruce over it.
I just really love this issue. It's so pretty, and so grounded, and it works so well as a snapshot of Renee's life before everything gets worse for her.
Scavenger Hunt (Catwoman #83)
Mostly a Gordon-focused issue, but Renee follows him and Batman on their scavenger hunt. Not that important for her characterization but hey she's involved.
She gets more outwardly upset over Gordon being taunted by a reminder of Two-Face's trial than by being reminded of her own involvement. It's because of Gordon-centric writing, and partly that she's trying not to reveal how she's affected, but it's also reinforcing my interpretation that No Man's Land was so fucked up and traumatizing in general that she's not as angry about being kidnapped as she "should" be.
That isn't to undermine how bad being held prisoner was, it's just that everything was bad. She went directly back to work after NML despite killing people/indirectly getting people killed/seeing her friends and coworkers die/seeing so many people die/watching other cops give up even remotely pretending policing isn't about power/the general absurd trauma conga line of it all, there is some POWERFUL repression going on.
The Dark Knight Project (Batman #584)
Not a lot of Renee I just have a pet peeve: I absolutely do not buy that Batman is an urban legend by this point in his career.
I'm willing to suspend my disbelief on a lot of things but this is so silly to me because it's unnecessary - Bruce can want to avoid the spotlight as much as possible so that he's still shrouded in myth without having to pretend that people don't know he exists! Like, it can still be a matter of debate if he's one person or many, human or monstrous, what his superpowers are...
Even if I accept that Bruce is just that good at hiding, Jean-Paul got into a lot of very public shit both as Azbat and on his own and Helena is overt enough that she can get a ridiculous-but-roughly-accurate caricature in the paper. Everyone knows Gotham has vigilantes.
I do kind of vibe with the idea that Harvey's been pinned with the creation of the Bat-myth.
Superman and Batman: World's Funnest
Irrelevant, but it manages to get a tiny Vic in both a Crisis group shot and an Earth-4 panel, which is twice as much as most of the cameos I haven't been mentioning.
Measure for Measure (Batman #585)
A minor Renee appearance, but she's comfortable enough with Batman by now to call him out on his shit.

just someone dropping by to say thank you for Cherris pov being so heartfelt and rooted in loss. The whole dynamic and their speeches brought me to tears and your message about loss at the end was so appreciated ❤️ im currently dealing with it and it does suck so much but your story just made me remember why I loved her so much and how much I miss her 🩵
thank you again and can't wait to read more.
I said it before in my notes on the chapter, but loss is a universally difficult thing to deal with. And as silly as it may seem to have me writing about such topics so seriously in a Hazbin hotel fanfiction of all things with Cherri Bomb of all characters, I think it’s so very important to take these issues with the care they deserve. Because I know there’s so many people who will feel seen and understood.
From the bottom of my heart, you have my sincerest condolences. I’m so sorry this is something you have to go through. I don’t know you, but I can understand how hard it is to go through that from personal experience. Things you might have once loved become unbearable because they might be associated with the one you lost, getting out a bed some days will be a nightmare knowing you won’t be seeing them and it can be so easy to lose hope or even wish you never knew that person at all so you wouldn’t have to endure that level of pain and grief.
But what I hope the big take away from the chapter was that grieving takes no singular universal shape. It’s different for everyone, and it doesn’t follow a schedule or pattern. It can come up at inconvenient times, and feel like a burden or a betrayal to how we feel we normally need to be around others. Allowing yourself to feel these things despite how they hurt, and knowing that it’s okay to be feeling that way is so so important. Be patient and kind to yourself, because it’s a long and difficult road, but it WILL get better one day. Never rush yourself to “get over it” because it well and truly is not that easy.
And is that although these people aren’t in our lives anymore, their positive impacts are still here. Their hopes, their dreams, the times they might have made you laugh, the talks you would have had. While it can be bittersweet looking back on memories like that knowing it’s not possible to make more, it shouldn’t diminish how much joy they brought you. How much you loved them. And I’m sure for whoever you lost, you brought them so, so much joy too in the precious time that they were here. And I’m sure they loved you dearly too❤️
I hope you’re doing okay and that you have people around to support you through these times, ones who you can talk to and who are there for you. And I can’t even express how much it means to me to hear my writing touched you in some way. It was definitely heavy for me to write, but I strive to make a positive impact with my works. Wether it be making you laugh or hitting you in the feels. I’m so, so honoured that my silly story resonated with you and thank you so much for sharing it with me. It really means so much.
Please take care! Make sure to eat, sleep and all that jazz! That goes for you and anyone reading this. Remember you’re so very loved and like it was said, you aren’t alone! There will always be people out there who understand what you’re going through and are there to listen❤️

I literally adore the way you write shiggy and I've gotten obsessed over that little crusty. You write all bnha characters amazingly and that's why I'm very curious about your dabi ban. Just out of pure curiosity why not dabi despite you'd write him amazingly? I mean to be honest there's million good reasons to leave that melting ass on his own but which did you pick ? Thank you for your amazing content all the same and you're the best!
Oh that. Long story short - I have daddy issues. (・・;)
TW: alcoholism, death, child abuse
So... part of the reason I'm so awol on and off for these last 6 months is my father died of his alcoholism and alcoholism induced dementia in Dec.
My childhood was a mixture of two types of memories:
A loving, supportive father who was super proud of me to other people (and many times, to my face).
A: Showed up to every childhood play, project, band concert even if it meant being penalized for taking off work B: Damn near punched a female gym teacher who told me to "suck it up and stop pretending" when my endometriosis left me so anemic I was blacking out. C: Raised me to learn that my opinion was valued and of equal weight to the adults in the home when making family decisions. As a result, numerous adults told my parents "It's so weird. Your daughter looks me in the eye and speaks to me like an adult even though she's so young". D: Supported my mom through multiple college degrees by handling my brother and I, the cooking, the bills, the mail and anything else she didn't have the emotional energy for. E: Being a life line to numerous friends with PTSD from military service, dangerous marriages, etc. When it came to protecting others, my father never backed down from a bully even if it put him in danger for his own life.
A red faced, frothing mad, perfectionist who screamed me out of the house over the following things:
A: The dishes being in the wrong place in the dishwasher (the "correct location" changed weekly so it was impossible to do it right) B: Being unable to spell words which were far below my reading level despite having perfect grades in every subject and a vocabulary large enough to pass the English component of the GRE at 12 years old. (Turns out I have dyslexia. Found that out at the age of 25.) C: Telling him I was too scared to drive with him because he was unable to stand up. We now know that, for him, that means his BAC was over 3.0%.
There is much more to it then that, but this is what I am will to talk about on the internet.
As to my fathers death: he got black out drunk, injured himself, had multiple surgeries to fix the injury, had been detoxed for 3 months, was literally coming home in 12 hours, and died from a massive blood clot to the lungs (while on 3 blood thinners) as my mother was walking through the threshold to his hospital room.
So... what does this have to do with Dabi? This basically:
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong. Unlike most of tumblr, I do not hate Endeavor. I think his character is well done, the Todoroki's varied reactions to the abuse are horrifyingly realistic, and the way he projects a public image and a private image is spot on. Honestly, in many ways, he's the opposite of my dad's sweet, soft sober personality, but the abuse resonates perfectly except for two things:
Endeavor canonically regrets what he did and tried to change (it'll never be enough, but he's trying).
My father couldn't remember, so there was neither regret nor acknowledgment of the abuse nor any attempts to change it.
As to which of the BNHA children I feel best represents me: it depends on the day. When I can recall the kindness, I'm Fuyumi. When I recall the heated arguments about how he was going to die of liver failure, I'm Shoto. When I recall how my mother had to spend her entire marriage being his "handler" at every social event, I'm Natsuo.
I when I recall all the times I hid with my cat in my room as he shrieked at me through the door... well...
Tumblr media
However, unlike Shigaraki, I will never get closure for my abuse.
Where does that leave me?
Tumblr media
I just can't bring myself to be romantic about the worst parts of myself. I want to forgive, if for no other reason then this hatred will eat my soul if I do not. However, my feelings are just so raw that Dabi hits too close to home.

Theoden as an Ironwood Allusion
So. Many of you likely know that my primary allusion for James Ironwood is Boromir from the Lord of the Rings. What you may not know (because I show it more rarely) is that I also consider Theoden to be a strong primary allusion for James. Both the literary and movie versions!
"But Liz!" I hear you asking. "How on Earth/Remnant can James be like Boromir AND Theoden? Those seem like vastly different characters!"
Well, let me explain!
Boromir is a man still in his prime, with a will to protect others that is so pure and strong, it's the only 'in' that the Ring itself can use to manipulate him. A will to protect so strong, that even under the Ring's influence, he never draws a weapon on Frodo even when being actively denied it. He may get angry, but he never harms the Ringbearer, because such is simply not in his nature. The One Ring must work within the framework of the beings it seeks to manipulate, and Boromir is neither cruel nor murderous. But he is full of despair for his kingdom and his people, and desperate to save both as they lie in Mordor's shadow in this time of growing darkness.
So that's where Boromir sits, and I'm sure that even without my future meta about how that is so resonant with ironwood, the basic beats line up, yes? So then we are left with "Alright Liz, but. Theoden???"
Theoden is the great leader of his people, grown old and tired, and in his exhaustion he has been poisoned into inaction. Inaction as his men are slaughtered by orcs, inaction as his son dies, inaction as his nephew is banished and his niece begs for him to see the pain of their people. And when, through the actions of a Good Wizard, that veil of poisonous inaction is lifted, Theoden must take up once more the heavy mantle of king. King to a people who now suffer due to his inaction. A hunted people.
Theoden must pull himself together in the wake of his grief, and give his people a leader in crisis. He must face the potential end of his kingdom, of the world, and stand firm.
And he doesn't!
Wait wait, you gotta let me explain!
Theoden doesn't do it perfectly. He slips, and he stumbles, but he never falls. Despite all the bad shit that Theoden faces, he chooses - over and over and over again - to face the darkness, and to charge into what should be certain death, because it is the honorable, noble, right thing to do. But he has doubts! He feels fear! He stumbles and lets himself give into despair! But he never stops there! And more than that, he is the leader of his people, and he cannot let them lose faith.
Théoden: "They will break upon this fortress like water upon rock… Crops can be resewn, homes rebuilt. Within these walls, we will outlast them." Aragorn: "They do not come to destroy Rohan’s crops or villages, they come to destroy its people—down to the last child." Théoden: "What would you have me do? Look at my men. Their courage hangs by a thread. If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance."
Like Theoden, James knows the value of a show of strength and optimism. If you frame even a hopeless battle as one that has hope, with confidence in yourself and your people, they will fight that battle with that hope. And if they think that they will die, huddled in fear? Why bother to stand and offer resistance, if it doesn't matter what you do?
And yet, for all his show of strength for his people, for his men, when it is just Theoden and his counsel/attendant, that image cracks, and we see that even cured of Saruman's spell, Theoden is old, and he is tired, and he is afraid, as any man should be.
Theoden: “Who am I, Gamling?" Gamling: "You are our king, Sire."Theoden: "And do you trust your king?" Gamling: "Your men my Lord, will follow you to whatever end."Theoden: "To whatever end... Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow." Theoden: "How did it come to this?”
This is a speech that a man with doubt and fear gives. This is the speech a man who is seeing the fall of his people gives. But even as he says these lines, Gamling armors him. Even as he speaks, he prepares for battle, where he fights alongside his men.
This has a lot of echoes of James & Oscar in the vault with the Staff of Creation in V7. The gentle way that James asks if Oscar believes in him, the way they talk down there before James has to go into his own battle: the party hosted by Jacques. The doubt and fear he shows down there. And then he turns around and, when presented with his next battle, goes to it without hesitating.
And when all seems lost, and Theoden falls into despair again? It is Aragorn, his friend, who pulls him back. Who brings the king back to realizing that they must meet evil as it is, and not cower in fear. If they are to be slain, then let it be such an end, right?
Theoden: "So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?" Aragorn: "Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them." Theoden: "For death and glory." Aragorn: "For Rohan. For your people." Theoden: "...yes. Yes! The Horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the Deep. One last time. Let this be the hour, when we draw swords together." Theoden: "Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn! Forth, Eorlingas!"
What Theoden is doing here - not knowing that Gandalf is due back with Eomer - is facing almost certain death, and going to meet it, head-on. Knowing that there is no victory, but leading his people because that is what they need, and because that is the responsibility that a king bears. And he will not let his men down, let them fall in fear and darkness. Nor will he allow himself to shrivel in the face of evil, to wilt and fall to inaction again.
James does something very similar in V7, when the grimm break through the wall and Watts has taken the ehating grid down. While he crumbles for an instant upon learning about Salem, he pulls himself back together to defend his city, because that is the responsibility of leadership. King, general, headmaster...it doesn't matter. Defending those people, the kingdom, humanity...all you can do is pull yourself together and meet the evil where it stands. You cannot cower.
And the thing is? At every point after this, when the choice to go on is so hard? Theoden is the one pulling everyone up with him. He does not shy, or wilt, or give into despair. He stands, and he reassures, and he faces the end of the world with strength, and honor, and nobility.
Gamling: "He leaves because there is no hope." Theoden: "He leaves because he must." Gamling: "Too few have come. We cannot defeat the armies of Mordor." Theoden: "No we cannot. But we will meet them in battle nonetheless."
This is a great exchange at the base of the mountain in the film, where Gamling - who has always been at Theoden's side, a steady voice of reassurance - has his own doubts, and it is Theoden who must reassure. And he does!
And the thing is, James does this too. While we know he has doubts, that he knows his choices aren't popular, he supports the group as best he can. He gives them their Huntsman licenses. He gives them training with operatives who will help them grow. He trains Oscar, so that he will be able to hold his own better.
And then Theoden and his men ride out the next morning, and then...oh then. The speech I wish we had gotten a version of in Volume 7 instead of...what we got. I don't care whether it is book or movie, Theoden's speech at the Battle of Pelennor Fields will never fail to bring tears to my eyes.
"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now! Ride now! Ride! Ride for ruin, and the world's ending! Death! Death! Death!"
He is seeing the force of Mordor, the gates of Minas Tirith - that have never been breached - shattered. But he cannot turn away. If Rohan does not answer Gondor's cry for help, Middle-Earth itself will fall to evil. The immortal, evil bad guy will win, and he must stop that at all costs. Because he is a king. Because he is honorable. Because it is right.
And I know, mostly, I've been talking about Theoden here (it's like I used to write him at some point....huh...) but! The point is, many of these same concepts can be turned to James, particularly in Volume 7. It's why I just can't accept his fall as it is written. To dip into my Boromir allusion (despite the title of this, shush), the Ring can only work within the framework of who someone is. And James Ironwood is a man who routinely shoulders the mantle of leadership, even in the face of impossible odds, in the face of pain, and fear, and loss and grief. He stands and rallies those around him, gives them hope even when his own is running dry. He looks the big evil bitch in the face, cowering against the wall of his office...and tells her to get out.
Salem: "The people of Atlas have suffered enough. Surrender the Staff and the lamp to me, and they needn't suffer any further." Ironwood: "That's..." He pulls himself together, visibly squares his shoulders & regains composure. Ironwood: "Not going to happen."
James looks at what equates to Sauron himself, and stares Salem down, and tells her he will not bend to her. He will not cower, or surrender. He will fight. He will lead his people. If this is to be their end, then it will be such an end...see?
And I haven't even properly touched on the parallels between Ironwood & Winter with Theoden & Eowyn, or Ironwood & Oscar with Theoden & Merry! Or hells, even ironwood and Weiss, and how the way he routinely defends her from Jacques (and the rich jerks at the party) is a great show of his own nobility and gentility, the eternal hand being offered to her for safety if she would like it. Offered but never forced.
Just. Theoden King has his own darkness, his fear and despair. The exhaustion of age, of grief. And yet he still, every time, chooses to face the shadow facing his world and his people, standing tall, charging into battle and expecting not to come out.
And the death scene James deserved? That I will stand by to my last breath? The death scene we were robbed of? A beautiful parallel between Winter and Eowyn, done so perfectly in the films:
Theoden: "I know your face...Eowyn. My eyes darken." Eowyn: "No...I'm going to save you." Theoden: "You already did. Eowyn...my body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed. Eowyn..."
The vibes here. Winter, having to let go the man she sees as a father figure, as her hero? The man who gave her safety, and even love? Trust? Freedom? His body broken, and begging - gently - not to be saved. Not to be fixed.
Where is the horse and the rider indeed. Where is the death that would have satisfied James' arc? A redemption of his paranoia and fear, a reinforcement of his strength and kindness? Where is the death for a general of men, in service to all mankind, seeking only to save them from the true evil of the world?
Anyway. That's the meta. That's the vibe. I will probably do another in future with Eowyn and Merry, and how their relationships with Theoden parallel Winter and Oscar specifically, but. I think this meta is long enough, don't you?
