86! Damn, that's more than I remember 🙀 I have been writing pretty fervently since I was pretty young, though, and I transferred all my old fics from fanfiction dot net to AO3, so it's a long stretch of time. All my old wattpad fics are still rotting somewhere though lmaooo I can't even access them anymore bc I forgot my password and I can't reset it bc I used a school email 😔

Oof, okay, here we go. Resemblance (Naruto) - bro I always forget people really liked this one. Literally an unedited drabble I did in an hour for a "pride month drabble challenge" which I immediately abandoned. Trans rights I guess

Always Wanna Play (But You Never Wanna Lose) (Persona 3) - This one isn't surprising either, and I'm very proud of this fic so I'm quite chuffed to see it get so much attention... thanks everyone :')

The Beat of Your Heart (Zelda) - Now this one surprised me a lot. This was just a little piece for ZeLink week... Another unedited one, I literally was writing it on the toilet in church so I could get it out in time 😭

Comfort (Zelda) - Another ZeLink week piece, but I knew this one was popular. Also unedited, lmao. I was writing it on the day of my AP Calc finals and I rushed through the exam so I could have more time to work on the fic 😭 I made some Choices that year

Do you respond to comments?

I try to! But I get very anxious about it and tend to work myself into a tizzy, so I often put it off for later and then forget, haha. Then I'll go and respond to all my comments from the last few months and feel even weirder about it... T_T

What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?

Oof. That's... a hard one, haha. I've written a couple of fics without happy endings, though I typically don't. At least three fics which end on a canonical character death, for instance. But I'd say the ending which made me the most emo writing was Butter, a Mother 3 fic. It ends with Lucas, who's like 9, recently lost his mother, then lost his twin brother (and thinks it's his fault), and is now being neglected by his father, crawling into bed and crying. So yeah, pretty bleak, lmao... but at least he doesn't die I guess?

Do you write crossovers?

I do, but I haven't posted many yet. I'm not always huge on writing them, but I do think about them a lot. I was working on this one Persona 3 x Fire Emblem Awakening crossover but I lost steam on it, and now there's a really lovely crossover on AO3 with a similar premise that I was SO delighted to come across!!! Hope y'all don't mind me taking a break from linking my own work to shill for this one, hehe

Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?

Unfortunately, yes, about six times, I'd say. Even more unfortunately, most of those times happened earlier on in my fanfic writing career, and I was pretty sensitive to hate back then, so I deleted many of the relevant fics, and some of them I don't even have access to myself anymore.

Not gonna talk about the ones that are still upsetting, but I will talk about the funny examples: on a (since deleted) RWBY fic, I said in the author's note that I "wrote them as platonic, but the fic can be read as WhiteRose", and then I got a glowing comment gushing about how good the story was which ended with "but then you had to ruin it by shitting all over WhiteRose, how about you [long suicide bait]". Third most baffling comment I've ever received.

The two most baffling were on different fics, but both were making the same weird accusation??? One was on a ZeLink fic (actually, on Comfort, my fifth most kudos'ed fic of all time now), and y'know I think I'm just gonna show you the comment in question:

The other one was on a long-since deleted fic which focused on both a romantic ship, as well as a fatherly relationship between one member of the ship and the other member's father. I guess having a fatherly relationship with your father-in-law makes your boyfriend actually your brother (and therefore you can't date him anymore). IDK man people are crazy. (tbf the commenter in question thought I was setting it up so that he'd get adopted by his boyfriend's parents, which would give them more of a case, but like... that didn't happen in the fic and wasn't going to. they just guessed at a future plot development and got angry about their guess)

Do you write smut?

I do, but I've never posted any. I've posted one fic that was very suggestive, I'd even call it "NSFW" in a sense, but never anything explicit. Maybe I will in the future? We'll see if I can ever finish anything smutty, lmao.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yep, I had Ultimatum, my longest chapter-fic (and by far my most popular fic in the ff.n days) stolen and posted on another site by somebody. I reported it but never checked back up to see if it got taken down.

I also feel that I've had my work plagiarized pretty damn blatantly in another fandom (I was browsing a certain AU tag and read one which contained all the exact events and sometimes word-for-word dialogue from a fic of mine, just very very slightly rewritten) but the poster had no other works and their writing was definitely extremely juvenile, so... I figured they were a dumb kid and just decided not to raise a fuss. Checked back later and they deleted it, hopefully because they realized they shouldn't do that, so I figure there's no need to start shit over it. Honestly, if that person used that experience as a jumping-off point to write their own fics, then I'm glad it happened, imitation being the highest form of flattery and all.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, though I had someone reach out to me on fanfiction dot net a long time ago and ask permission to translate An Unheard Goodbye, which was super exciting! I agreed, but I don't believe they ever got around to it, or if they did, they never posted it. Still very flattering, and I think about that a lot, hehe.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

HOW COULD I POSSIBLY ANSWER THIS. UM. UM UH. UHHH UM UH I. UM.

I'm.... gonna say Zelda/Link? I haven't written it in FOREVER but it was such a huge part of me coming into my own as a fanfic author, so I have to give it credit for that.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?

.......all of them 😭 god I have so many of these damn things. But for the prime example, I'd point to Ultimatum, an old Pokemon fic that I started in middle school. I got all the way to the climax and I feel bad leaving my readers hanging, but... at this point, if I did continue it, I would honestly have to rewrite the whole fic first just to be in line with my current understanding of the characters.

What are your writing strengths?

Y'know, I think I get character voices down extremely well in a way which elevates my dialogue and narration. That's probably the thing I'm most proud of in my own writing, at least.

What are your writing weaknesses?

BREVITY. Or the utter, glaring lack of it. I have also been known to muddy up my writing with an overabundance of A) adverbs, B) unneeded clauses tacked onto perfectly good sentences, and C) em-dashes 😭

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?

I think it's dope as fuck, but I currently can't really accomplish it because I'm monolingual (NOT FOR LONG IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT, I'M COMING FOR YOU, JAPANESE FLUENCY!!!!). I will also say that I don't like when authors will write characters having a story-important conversation in another language, then put the translations in the end notes or something, requiring you to either read the chapter confused or else keep scrolling back down and back up.... I think even that's totally fine to do if what's being said isn't plot-relevant, though.

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

Naruto. I hadn't read or watched Naruto btw, I had only read other Naruto fanfics. I have spoken on this topic many times, but it remains hilarious to me. Also, so many of my old Naruto fics are lost to the Wattpad times, but I will take this opportunity to once again share a quote which I recently managed to unearth from my long-lost unsung magnum opus:

Never ever will I intentionally attain the level of comedy gold that I managed while writing completely dead serious Naruto fanfiction on Wattpad in 2012.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?

See above. How could I ever top that fic.

In all seriousness, this question always makes me sweat, but I think I'm gonna say Oil, a slightly older fic from my EliHec days which I absolutely obsessed over for months before finally managing to finish. And, unlike most of the fics that I obsess over, I think the obsession actually made it come out better rather than worse, haha.

Keep in mind that this is a Modern AU, Voltron never happened. All characters are around 21, except for Pidge (18) and Shiro (26).

Also, I SWEAR this is not Kallura.

4 years. That’s how long it took for Keith to officially open his self-owned tattoo business.

The parlor was his pride and joy, and the only things more important to Keith were Shiro and Kosmo.

Keith had even managed to make a few friends along his path to tattoos, most notably a woman named Allura who been his emotional support throughout art school.

They had met via tinder. Keith, of course, had been completely humiliated to find that she was girl when they first met.

Explaining his sexuality to a stranger was quite awkward. It was worth it, though. She was his best friend now. Of course, she had always been friendly, likable, and social. Three things that Keith absolutely was not. But it made him happy to see her happy around other people.

(Lance)

Lance would follow Allura anywhere. He no longer hosted his initial embarrassing crush on her. Now, she was an older sister to him, someone he idolized.

This was a little too far, though.

Everyone stood outside of a tattoo parlor, dubbed “Marmora” by the flashing neon sign above the door.

Allura was holding a bouquet of blood red poppies.

Apparently her edgy tattoo artist friend had a soft spot for them.

The only reason Lance hadn’t turned tail and ran yet was that it was over a hundred degrees out, and Lance would rather not have a heat stroke.

Suddenly, Allura gasps.

“Oh no! I forgot food! I’ll be right back, guys. I need to find acceptable sustenance for Keith. Go on ahead, I’ll catch up!”

They reluctantly filed into the shop.

Lance was pleasantly surprised. Sure, there was MCR playing softly throughout the speakers, but the place looked homey. The dog, however, is what won Lance over.

It ran over, yapping excitedly. Also, was huge and probably very huggable.

Right when it looked like it was about to tackle Lance, a voice sounded from the next room.

“Down, Kosmo.”

Kosmo immediately settled down and padded over to the new figure.

Lance almost started staring at the tattoos covering the man’s arms, but he was distracted by the guy’s hair.

“Is that a mullet? What are you, sixty? And anyway, it looks like you don’t have any space left on this ink stained noodles you call arms, so why are you here?”

Ok, so Lance came off a little mean, but he had a habit of speaking his mind. Especially around wannabe Gerard Ways. The guy’s ears turned red. He opened his mouth like he was about to say something when the front door opened. In bustled Allura, with two bags of takeout hanging from her arms, and the flowers cradled close to her chest.

The looked up, his gaze softening.

“Oh, hey ‘Llura.”

Lance realized with horror who this was.

“Keith! Darling, it’s been much too long! Here, I have peace offerings for you! You know, in exchange for you not killing Lance because I see you giving him one of you death glares, and wow, I’m rambling, aren’t I.” Everyone stared in shock. This was Allura’s “absolutely adorable friend?”

Oh man I have a fucking start for a Lance bi arc in my head but like no energy to write the full thing so I'm just gonna type it in notes here

So Lance does like chat to alien girls on their missions and he goes on dates with them (in my head I don't think the Paladins should be strictly confined to only ever being in the castle, like they can make friends and call people and visit planets and shit)

So they have a mission where they are tasked with protecting an alien Prince and Lance is assigned to be his main body guard and throughout this Lance kinda notices how handsome the Prince is and the Prince seems to be flirting with him. Throughout this they bond a lot and after a few days of this and an attack from the people trying to assassinate the Prince, it kinda becomes clear that the Prince quite likes Lance and Lance quite likes the Prince back.

The Prince thanks Lance for being his bodyguard and as the other lions are flying back to the castle, the Prince stops Lance and leans down a little to kiss him on the cheek and he gets super flustered and says he can't wait to see him again. When Lance gets into the lion, he realises the comm is screeching at him to respond and the others are asking him what's taking him so long. He says nothing but Pidge and Hunk clock that he's nervous and complain about how he could've possibly had the time to get distracted by a girl.

Later coran comes up to him to let him know that the Prince sent him his call details for Lance and initially he's quite nervous but coran says he won't say anything but not because he quite understands the human context sexuality being difficult to talk about but cause he thinks the others will never let him live it down if he starts dating a Prince.

So, as a side plot to this, Keith has galra hearing and has spent most of the show so far that he can hear everything Lance does in his room (mostly cause Lance sings a lot in his room at ungodly hours) so soon after Lance starts having call dates with the Prince, Keith hears it and feels bad that he's listening in on some pretty romantic and serious convos so he asks for ear plugs from Coran. Coran briefly worries about how much Keith knows but realises his concern seems to just be invading Lance's privacy and leaves it alone.

As the secret relationship continues, Lance begins to feel guilty for not telling anyone on the team. His fear is not that they'll reject him, most of the group identify as queer. But even thinking about telling them makes him feel nauseous. Coran tries to implore Lance that telling them won't end badly.

Lance begins acting more withdrawn from the group as a result.

Hunk is worried about him and gets in his head about it, getting Pidge to check out the call logs he has. He doesn't know who's on the other end cause he's not willing to push that far but they theorise its a girlfriend. But this seems to be the longest he's had a relationship so far and he's never hidden girlfriends from them before and they're concerned but also a little hurt themselves. Shiro finds out they've snooped and gets Allura to block their access and sits them both down for a talk about not snooping but talks with Allura about this because he's also pretty concerned about Lance too. She states its probably not for them to pry but maybe make a concerted but very obvious set of interactions of Lance that are like "well because you know you can ALWAYS CONFIDE IN US right Lance?"

It begins to affect their ability to form Voltron and as a fight is coming to a close and everyone is super frustrated and bickering it all comes out, started with Hunk blurting that this is cause Lance is hiding his secret girlfriend from everyone.

They're all yelling and putting pieces together (with Keith chipping in with a quiet and very confused ".... wait what?")

Lance goes to storm off and hide in his room, Pidge and Hunk realise they've messed up pretty bad and made things worse and Shiro and Allura don't know what to do.

A knock on Lance's door makes him yell to go away and that hes not telling them about his "secret girlfriend", but instead Keith opens the door, holding Lance's and his dinner and sets it down next to him before shutting the door again.

"I know you don't have a secret girlfriend, Lance, I know it's the Prince."

Lance is shocked but Keith goes on, explaining that he realised after he heard them talking through the wall and got earplugs to give them privacy but he realised that this was maybe something he hadn't come out about yet when he realised nobody but Coran knew.

Keith talks to him about when he came out to Shiro and how nervous he was, not because he feared shiro and his boyfriend would reject him for being gay, but because it felt like it'd change the way Shiro thought about him. Shiro would know he thought about relationships and had crushes and people he liked and it freaked him out.

This prompts Lance to explain that he's frustrated because he thought he knew who he was and what he liked. What's gonna happen if he's different from who he thought he was again? He can't even tell his family about any of this cause he figured it out away from Earth.

Keith says he isn't sure how to help, but that he's sorry he didn't realise they were snooping, but that for what it's worth, it just sounds like they were worried about how withdrawn he'd become recently, possibly resulting from him feeling guilty about hiding this. This is a side of Lance he's not used to seeing and this is a moment that contributes to Keith's later crush on Lance returning.

Keith let's him have his privacy about his food and once he's done he decides to come to the dining room to tell them about the Prince. Before he does, Hunk and pidge pauses him and both apologise and explain. They were worried but also let their hurt feelings get in the way and be a justification for prying into his private business and that they should've just talked to him and that he doesn't have to tell them anything or feel pressured to, because if he's not ready to or even if he just doesn't feel like it, then he shouldn't.

Lance accepts the apology and says while he's still a little mad, he kinda gets it. And he decides to tell them about the Prince, which is when Allura is flabbergasted by this and goes "THATS WHY THE ALLIANCE HAS GONE SO SMOOTHLY AND KEEPS ASKING WHEN WE'RE NEXT GOING TO BE THERE!!"

Say, what are some characters you feel like had a metric ton of potential that was completely scrapped by the writers?

i feel like it would be cheating if i said all of them so. ill try and be more specific lmao <3 i was gonna show restraint and only do a few but FUCK IT you're getting the entire essay

coran. i know he's meant to be the Comic Relief character but idk. its possible to have a comic relief character who also has gravity and emotion, ykw ??? like idk i feel like all the show/fandom ever talks about is how allura lost everything (which is TRUE. SHE DID. IM NOT TRYING TO MINIMIZE THAT AT ALL.) but idk. allura was young enough that she probably didn't really have an established life on altea yet but coran??? he was an adult. fully grown, probably had friends or coworkers, even a partner and family. idk idk he lost as much as if not more than allura did and the writers barely ever acknowledged it. he isn't allowed to connect with any of the characters or have any actual genuine moments because he's supposed to be The Funny One. idk if the writing actually aknowledged his grief and trauma more, but still made him so lighthearted and goofy, that would be FASCINATING. HE STILL HAS HOPE. HE CAN STILL LAUGH. ET CETERA. but noooo he's just Silly with nothing deeper to it. sigh

in that same vein, hunk. again, he's often comic relief (and that comic relief is usually a fat joke

lotor. ik a lot of ppl have mixed opinions on the guy (fair) but like. he had SO much potential to be so many different things but i think the writers just. had too many things they wanted him to be. so his writing was all over the place because they couldn't make up their minds

haggar......again. i had SUCH a hard time pinning down any of her motives or characterization when she was the Main Villain (which to be fair might have been due to the fact that i was Mentally Checked The Fuck Out by the time s7/s8 rolled around) but like ??? i still have no idea what she was trying to do as the main villain in s7/8. she was such a menacing villain in the first few seasons but then the writing got soo confusing and needlessly complicated and i completely lost interest in anything about her character

shiro. the fact that he went through So Much but still gave the blade of marmora enough hope to risk everything to rescue him and kickstart the events of s1 ??? the fact that he Continued to go through So Much but was still a rock for the team and was still goofy and fun and dorky and lovable ?????? and ALL THAT to not even be in the show for the next 5 or so seasons and then be permanently sidelined when he DOES come back. what the fuck. like they tried to have an atlas metaphor later on to try and bring him back into the narrative but it was MEANINGLESS. sooo much wasted potential. a narrative about healing....finding love + family + connection......ending the war that has caused so much pain for Him Personally......man. we could have had it ALL

keith. i legiterally don't even recognize keith after s3 like !!! who is this man !!!!! he had abandonment + anger issues from being alone his Whole Life and instead of finding a close-knit family in space, he was isolated again and again and again, and shoved into a role he didn't want and wasn't meant for, and by the end bro was UNRECOGNIZABLE. in theory i LOVE the concept of keith learning to rely on his team more and take more of a leadership role as he grows as a person + teammate, but they had the PERFECT opportunity to do that already with keith being red paladin!!!!!!!! the red paladin is voltron's right hand!!!!!!! if the black isn't there, then red steps up to take charge!!!!!! idk. it would have been so so so so cool if shiro was only missing Temporarily and keith had to work through his own grief/fear/etc and take up the mantle of red paladin to keep the team together just long enough until shiro got back because he would NOT want that shit long-term. idk. i know keith literally got most of the storylines and arcs in the show but i still think he had wasted potential because most of those arcs fundamentally misunderstood him as a character and turned him into something he wasn't. idk

allura. she lost her ENTIRE FAMILY her ENTIRE CULTURE her ENTIRE SPECIES and it doesn't stop there lol !!!! over the course of the show she lost LITERALLY EVERYTHING. the castle of lions (the last remnant of her home), her tiara thingie (last thing she had left of her family), AND her life. what the fuuuck what the fuck. EVEN WITH the other alteans w romelle's group, allura still got discarded. like idk. she grieved her whole people and tried so hard to lead this resistance and then after she's grown so much and become a powerful leader and warrior she becomes queen of new altea. that would have been SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

matt. he was alone in space for YEARS. like its unclear how long it was between shiro saving him from the arena and pidge finally finding him, but it was at LEAST a year, probably longer. he was a prisoner for most of that time, separated from the only two people he knew, and likely thinking they're both dead. no way to be rescued. no way to escape. and THEN when he IS rescued by the rebels, he's alone still because he's the only human!!! none of them can speak his language!!! he can't go home!!!! and ofc he fights the galra as part of the resistance and is this badass rebel leader but the show doesn't shed ANY light on how he got there. how he turned from nerdy little scientist to badass rebel leader in a space war. and just. idk. there was barely ANY matt screentime and there was so much wasted potential there

and i could keep going. i could have an essay for every single character. but alas i am sooo fucking sleepy so i must cap it here </3

Congrats on finishing! I enjoyed reading your thoughts, and agree with a bunch of the points made.

I wish Lance and Hunk had gotten more screen time that actually let us watch them grow more, and I personally wish they’d given us more bonding between Coran and Lance, I thought the scenes we got with them was very sweet, and not utilized enough, imo.

I wish they had left out the game show episode, ngl it rubbed me the wrong way watching it the first time, and every time I think about it. It was just so 🤥🫠

I also agree that we didn’t really get to see Shiro have any actual flaws, and really bummed we only got a few minutes of his trauma before moving on.

The Balmerans were so cool to see when they came in, and I adore Hunk and Shay

Same! Throughout the majority of the series, I kept wondering if Lance even had a family because they were never mentioned (unless I'm forgetting some info from very early on in Season 1). Turns out, he had a huge family. He did say he missed them in Season 2 maybe? But we didn't really get to know anything about his life prior to being a paladin/in the Galaxy Garrison. He also didn't really seem to have any special interests or hobbies. Think we only really saw him practicing his weaponry/fighting skills once Keith left (or maybe during the time when Keith took leadership the first time).

We did get to know more about Hunk's family in the later seasons. Again, would've been nice to hear about his close connection to his family earlier on.

Yes! Coran and Lance had some fun interactions! They definitely could've had more personalized moments between the Voltron crew. We got more of that in the earlier seasons, I believe. Like with Shiro and Pidge. Lance and Keith. Those types of combos are fun. I did like that Hunk and Pidge got closer in later seasons. It also felt like they set Lance and Hunk to be besties in the first few episodes of the show, but then they just kinda had the same amount of interactions as everyone else. Might have been nice for them to have more moments together like Shiro and Keith did.

BIG AGREE. I hated the game show episode. I zoned out through most of it. I was just like this is such a waste of episode time.

Yeah! In fact, they could've leaned into the perfectionist aspect and had that weigh heavy on Shiro. Or they could've given him more micro-managing tendencies with him trying to tell the others what to do too much. That would've opened up some interpersonal conflict for Shiro to work through. I also would've been fine if he had lost his shit more often because that was extremely entertaining 😌.

Shay was so sweet 🖤.

Currently? Dream SMP. But I also have an Inscryption WIP and a couple Kpop WIPs that I really should get back to one of these days. orz But I've written for all sorts of fandoms over the years.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

This is the one that came as the biggest shock to me when I went and looked at my kudos count in preparation for this write-up. Like, really? People like the fic where I torture the sassy robot trapped in the body of a stoat for 7k words that much??

4) A Shoulder to Lean On [Avatar: The Last Airbender]

WHERE did all these people come from, I have like 6 comments on this thing (not counting my replies)??? I mean, I'm flattered, but ??!!?!

3) Accepting Amelioration [Voltron: Legendary Defender]

I mean, it's a Voltron fic posted back when the fandom was in full swing, it doesn't really surprise me the kudos counter is considerable, though I am still surprised it got that much traction considering the fic is gen and not shippy. Am still proud I made the first daemon AU in the entire fandom, though, if this is my claim to fame, then I'm ok with that. :p

2) Temporary Shelter [Astro / VIXX]

I seriously have no freaking clue how this little self indulgent Kpop crossover fic became so popular, I really don't. I mean, Kpop crossovers are niche at the best of times, and these two groups aren't exactly the most popular Kpop fandoms on AO3 if you know what I mean. It basically started as "wouldn't it be fun if my two favorite Kpop groups were secretly friends all this time? How would I have that happen, tho?" and then snowballed from there. I, uh. I'm glad so many other people like it, ig? 0_0

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely. It's only fair I reply if someone takes the time to read on my work and actually give me feedback about it, wouldn't you say? Plus, like most authors, I enjoy talking about my own work, so sue me. >:p

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't usually do angsty endings; I prefer happy or at least bittersweet ones. I guess by default, it has to be the fic where I slowly killed off America and China from Axis Powers Hetalia for 13k words, while the rest of the cast had already been dead for centuries at that point. So yes, the entire cast of that series was dead by the end of that fic. :))) IN MY DEFENSE, ok, I was actually trying to give them a bittersweet ending by reuniting them with all of their old friends and family by finally letting them rest after so long alone, but it still turned out really sad. TT TT It's basically my only fic where I can't go back and reread it more than once every couple of years, because I still end up a sobbing mess by the end.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Well, I guess that's what you define "happiest" as. The most cathartic? The one with the least amount of trauma and extreme bodily injury incurred by the characters? 🤔 I guess by the latter definition, it would Kaleidoscopic Perceptions, a very fluffy USPH college AU that I actually enjoyed writing a lot despite me not usually enjoying romance or college AUs.

8. Do you get hate on your fic?

No, thankfully. I've gotten a couple kinda weird comments, and of course the obligatory "It's been X months since you updated were you aware?????" comments, but no outright negativity.

9. Do you write smut?

LMAO. Absolutely not.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Yes! I really love crossovers. I have a few common fallbacks that fit with a lot of fandoms (daemon AUs, Firefly AUs, etc.), but I also enjoy fandom-specific crossovers when I can figure out how to pull them off.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No idea. I hope not!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Just once for this Gravity Falls fic.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Yes. It had a few ups and downs, but it was overall a really positive experience, and I think it turned out really well!

14. What‘s your all-time favorite ship?

idk that I have an ALL TIME favorite ship, especially since I hardly ever ship anything, but Frobin is pretty choice, I gotta say.

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Er, none of them, hopefully? I hope that I eventually get to finish all my WIPs at some point, even if it might take me awhile. >.>; But I suppose if I had to pick ONE to abandon, I'd probably pick Written In, my D&D Inscryption crossover AU. I like the IDEA for it, but writing it out is like pulling teeth, and after the first installment where the party gets together, I don't really have a lot of ideas on where to take the plot. :/ Like I have the general overarching idea but no plot structure or anything but small disconnected story beats.

16. What’s your writing strengths?

I like to think I do a pretty good job with descriptions while not bogging the story down too much with too much detail?

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

Uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh, staying motivated ig. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if you're asking my weakness about mechanics, though, uh... exposition, I guess? Dialogue in general, sometimes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If there is actual information included in the other language, then you better provide a translation. If it's just for flavor, though, have at it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

TMNT, specifically the 2003 show. It's never been posted anywhere on the internet and never will. :)

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Becoming Real, a Kpop fanfic based on VIXX's Voodoo Doll MV. However, it can easily stand on its own as its own original work. I consider it the most accessible story I've ever written, and it also was just very easy for me to write. Writing is often like pulling teeth for me, but not this story.

My god I bet you'll be the first one to hate the show once it hits the voltron downfall

i was in the vld fandom for 2.5 years and my favourite character was shiro. i don't think anyone who wasn't and who had a different fave can even begin to conceptualize the cluster fuck that was voltron. i don't think any show can even come close to the disaster that was voltron because they 1) broke every bit of their own purposefully established lore, 2) played into albeism and misogynoir to an absurd degree, and 3) did not know how to balance its ensemble cast, regularly sidelined its characters of colour to prop up a white boy's leadership arc, and by virtue of the way the story was structured, certain characters (like hunk, pidge) were completely stagnated for 6/7 and 5/7 seasons of the show because very few characters had over arching arcs and the ones that did took multiple seasons to make any real progress with.

This meant that there's very few seasons, partially due to the chopped up quality of 6-7 episodes > 13, and even then, where you can say "this character Changed." If anything stapling the seasons back together actually makes the cohesion worse planning wise, since S3 (aka where they broke the lore and when I almost quit the show) starts with Keith being made the new leader and if you include S4 in that, he leaves halfway through the season to do a completely different task. And I hated his leadership arc, but like - it's objectively poorly written, good god.

And I had a bad feeling about Voltron from episode 1 of season 2 because I felt like they weren't taking Allura's emotional continuity into account, and called every bit of bad writing S7 and S8 would have months before it happened, because those seasons were the result of 1) non sensical lore breaking and 2) scrambling for the half-assed plot to cover it up.

So TDP would have to sideline Callum and make N'than the new mage character, kill off Rayla and Ezran with zero lead up, and so much more to even come close (probably with some take of "Viren was 100% right to abuse Soren" offered completely uncritically as well). Amaya would lose all ability to be a general for no reason. Every single queer and/or disabled character would be brutally killed off/tortured repeatedly on screen. Don't even get me started on VLD's clone plotline and the druids, in which Haggar is revealed to be Altean, she and the druids practice Altean alchemy, and therefore they should also be Altean. And not only are the druids never explained, but the character who was tortured and experimented on for a year by them is passed over in fighting them to give spotlight to a character who slashes a sword at one of them one (1) time back in s1. I shit you not

I would take three more season fours easily over any of that bullshit, and TDP would still be an infinitely better show than even TLOK

“Yeah. Uh-huh. That’s why your ideas are stupid and we’re all gonna die.”

Keith fumes. Like, actually fumes, making the noise and everything, face bright red and scowl twisting his face so tightly that there’s a genuine concern he’s in pain. Lance, on the other hand, looks completely unbothered, flexing his fingers and checking his nails like he has no stake at all in the conversation.

Hunk exchanges a glance with Pidge. He’s at least glad they know better, if not poor Keith — Lance’s leg is bouncing up a storm underneath the table. He’s just as affected as Keith is, he’s just being a dick for brains because he’s emotionally stunted.

“If there’s something wrong with the plan,” Keith says, carefully enunciating every word through gritted teeth, “then please point it out to me and suggest an alternative.” The ‘otherwise shut the fuck up’ goes unsaid, but Hunk feels the sentiment is pretty clear regardless.

Lance upheaves a big, dramatic sigh, flopping backwards in his chair and covering his eyes with his hand like merely voicing his thoughts is such a struggle.

Keith’s eye twitches.

“You’re going to get a knife thrown at your head,” Hunk warns pleasantly, fully aware that it will do nothing.

He’s right. Lance ignores him.

“Look here,” he says, flicking a hand — with a more than reasonable amount of fanfare, Hunk will add, in fact he’s relatively certain that Lance has painted his fingernails gold entirely so they shine and catch everyone’s attention when he waves his hands around — at the holo blueprints Keith has pulled up of the Empire warship. “I mean, you have a plan that would work well for an EXC-76E-5 ship. Enter through the west hatch, sneak through the side hallways, ambush the gathered crew on the bridge. Except —” he swipes the image to the side, pulling up a file and displaying a photo sent by the Blades of the ship they’re currently planning to infiltrate — “the ship we’re infiltrating is an EXC-76E-4, dumbass. The hallways available to the west hatch opening don’t lead to the bridge, they lead to the armoury. If we mosey our way to the one place on the ship loaded with bombs and trigger happy Empire soldiers, it’s bye-bye Voltron.” He raises an eyebrow, smirking slightly, before parting his hands in faux surrender. “Of course, you’re the leader, though. If you say it’s time to go boom, I say sayonara, cruel word. Your wish is my firm command, Oh Fearless Leader.”

There’s a moment of tense, shocked silence. Hunk hurriedly pulls out his own file, noticing peripherally that everyone else does, as well, and hurriedly scans the report — the Blades have mistakenly noted in the write-up that the ship model is the EXC-76E-5, but the photos show, very clearly, an EXC-76E-4. Lance is right, and is the only one to notice — he must have all the models memorized. It’s a very Lance thing to do.

So is being a smug little shit about it, Hunk knows that for certain.

Beside him, Allura is biting her lip hard to keep from laughing. Over the past few months, her and Lance have gotten much closer, and while that has done wonders for team dynamics, it has also done wonders for Lance’s ego, which is.

Well.

It just is.

Pidge is also notably hiding her face with her hands. Hunk himself has several years of practice keeping his face in check when Lance is right, as is his duty as the number one Lance humbler (and as Lance’s duty with him — Hunk will admit that he can be a cocky shithead when he wants to be), so he’s looking straight at Keith.

Keith’s face has dropped to a deadpan stare. He grinds his teeth, glancing at the file and then back up at Lance, who smiles sunnily as if he’s not the absolute king of being as irritating as possible as often as possible.

“You know what your problem is?” Keith mutters, angrily swiping his hand through his battle plans to delete them and pulling up new blueprints.

Lance grins smugly, placing his hands under his chin and his elbows on the table. He blinks slowly, then opens half-lidded eyes towards Keith.

“Enlighten me,” he says.

“You,” Keith continues, as if Lance had not spoken, “are really cute, so no one ever told you to shut your fucking pie-hole.”

For the second time in the last ten minutes, the briefing room rings with shocked silence. Keith doesn’t seem to have noticed that he said it, or even that he said it to Lance’s face — he’s muttering grumpily to himself, crossing out every other thing he writes. He’s not even looking at Lance.

Lance, on the other hand, looks completely shocked. Shocked does not begin to cover it, honestly. Startled, maybe? His hands have dropped from under his chin, and his brown eyes are wide, looking at Keith in disbelief. His mouth is open slightly, gaped, at a total and complete loss for what to say.

Allura loses her battle. She clamps her hand over her mouth, trying her damnedest to muffle her laughter, eyes tearing with the effort. Pidge’s shoulders have started to shake, too. Hunk, for his part, can’t decide who to stare at, flicking wide eyes between Dumbass #1 and Dumbass #2.

Suddenly Lance’s expression shifts — the shock evaporates from his face, and in its place is something smug, something unbelievably satisfied, like a cat that knows it has its prey exactly where it wants it.

Hunk is generally a mature person, but drama is his weakness. He is straining every part of him so as not to miss a word.

Lance allows Keith a couple more moments of frustration, then starts tapping a nail on the table, a sound that is well known to annoy Keith quickly and reliably. When he, as expected, whips his head towards the sound and glares, Lance smirks, eyes honestly a little salacious between fluttering eyelashes.

“You think I’m cute?” he purrs.

It takes Keith maybe half a second to clock what the hell Lance is talking about, and then he goes so red that Hunk is sure he can feel the heat of his face, from exactly where he’s sitting, ten feet away.

Seriously, he’s glowing.

“Shut your pie-hole!” he snaps. “God!”

Rapidly, he turns back to the holoscreen, enlarging the proper blueprints with his new plans so everyone can see.

Lance cackles, continuing to snigger as Keith tries valiantly to outline his new plan and not die of self-induced heat exhaustion.

When Hunk peeks over Lance’s shoulder to look at his notes, though, he sees that he’s been dotting his i’s with hearts.

Day 28: Overprotective

Pidge had by now bitterly regretted having let Nadia have the freedom to get her a dress thinking and hoping that the woman would take pity on her by getting her a rather simple dress that reached at least her knees. When she handed her a paper bag from the store at the mall where she went to buy it, she said it would be perfect for Pidge and she would never regret it. Well, that same evening Nadia had organized a party for Pidge in honor of her 18th at a disco club (she didn't agree at all, explaining that she wanted a small party with few friends and people) and, in front of the mirror, she was cursing her brain for having thought such a ridiculous thing to ask Nadia to get her a freaking dress. She sighed, in front of the mirror, putting her hands on her hips and trying to pull her skirt down as much as possible, trying at least to hide her thighs or at least get it just below her bottom. The dress, if you could call it that, was a classic tight black short (very short) sleeveless dress that enhanced her little curves, a small black cord was tied around her neck and hooked to the fabric. The dress itself was straight, so there was no real skirt, but it was still so short that she had to walk around pulling the fabric down for fear it would bare her bum. She felt really uncomfortable with that thing on, but she took a deep breath and held it up at least to make Nadia happy. She sighed and walked out of her parents' house, Ryan's car in front of her. “You are absolutely gorgeous!”: Nadia yelled, rolling down the passenger window: “Get in, birthday girl!” Pidge took a slow breath as she got into the car. In less than five minutes she was sitting at the table, a strawberry mint soft drink as she watched all the MFEs and other people she had known at the garrison frolicking in the disco or talking animatedly. In that moment she felt a bit left out, considering it was her birthday party and she should have been the one having the fun. In fact, it was Nadia herself who had arranged everything and so suddenly. But she would also have expected to find the ex Voltron team as well. "I don't know if anyone has already told you this. Happy birthday”: Pidge turned to the man who had just sat next to her. “Keith!”: She exclaimed in surprise, hugging him tightly: ”I thought Nadia didn't invite you!” “I wasn't actually invited. Veronica invited Acxa and she told me about it. Let's say I invited myself,” he explained. "That's better! I couldn't stand it anymore…": she snorted, looking around and seeing that people weren't calculating them in the slightest: "How about we sneak out?" "Sounds like a great idea to me": he whispered, getting up and walking slowly towards the exit. She wasted no time in wrapping his arm smiling, walking slowly and looking at the starless sky due to the pollution of the city. "Thanks for coming": Pidge smiled, looking at him: "I couldn't have lasted another second longer.." “I'm of the opinion that you should spend your birthday well”: he replied: “We missed a lot of celebrations on the ATLAS and in space…” “Yes… you're right”: she chuckled, returning serious with a slightly frightened expression as they arrived in front of a slightly dark street, full of pubs and probably drunk people, laughter and pieces of glass falling to the ground in the background. One look was enough for Keith to understand what was happening. He took a deep breath, took off his jacket and gave it to her to cover herself up, then placing a hand on her shoulder and dragging her towards another, more lit street. “Come on, let's go this way” he said, guiding her and feeling her fear slowly diminish “Thanks Keith..” “Always, Katie…”

Ghost Whisperer Voltron AU - Part 4

Allura didn't get a lot of sleep that night, or the ones that followed. The little boy had paid her two more visits, always around dusk. What caught her attention was the always reacted as if she was a stranger, because it was unusual. Usually the ghosts began to recognize her, which made the process of moving on easier for all parties, but this little boy seemed to forget.

In her research, she discovered a few important things. City records showed that the previous owners of the house were the McClains, who moved six years before and had trouble selling it. The house remained vacant until she bought it, for at least half the price it should have sold for.

She also found out that around that time there was a fire in the school and there two casualties: a firefighter and his son. Allura knew the son was the little boy who kept visiting, but his name was redacted from the papers for some reason. So, she paid a visit to the local firemen station.

It was a Tuesday morning and it seemed to be a slow day for the town. Kids were at school, people were at work, and barring an emergency, the sirens were quiet. She walked in through the garage, and immediately noticed there was a wall covered in pictures. She began to approach when one of the firefighters noticed her.

"Hello, can I help you?" He asked. He was tall, broad shouldered and was missing an arm. He also had a large scar accross his nose.

"Oh, hi! I'm new in town, so I was just walking around and getting to know the place," she said, feeling a bit awkward.

"Well, it's nice to meet you! Hope you're liking it so far," he replied and extended his hand, "name's Takashi Shirogane, but most people call me Shiro."

"Allura Altean," she shook his hand.

"So, where did you move to? I haven't heard of anyone moving away," he continued.

"Oh, it's a house that was vacant for years near the edge of town. It's a bit of a fixer upper, but I'm into DIY and such," she answered. Shiro's face made a funny expression, and it made her curious, "is something the matter?"

"Huh? No, not at all... it's just... well, some people say those houses are haunted. You are brave for buying the property."

If only he knew, Allura thought, but replied, "Oh, really? I had no idea."

"For real? They didn't tell you when you got it?" Allura made her eyes look wide and she shook her head. Shiro continued, "well, local legend says that after a fire in the school a few years ago, weird things began to happen in the area. So much so, that the school relocated to a different building."

"Oh? What kind of weird things?" She asked, genuinely intrigued even if she was playing up the tourist act.

"Shadows in the windows, things that moved on its own, flickering lights... that sort of thing. One story says that one say a desk broke as if someone had jumped on it. Another says that if you pass by the abandoned school building around ten in the morning, when they used to have recess, something will throw rocks at you. Oh, and my favorite: some people claim that the demons haunting the place started the fire in the first place."

"Takashi, what are you doing?" Someone asked behind her and Allura did not startle. She didn't. Shiro laughed and she glared at him.

"Just telling our new resident about the history of our town," Shiro replied to the man who was approaching them. He was tall, although a bit shorter than Shiro, and leaner, with a critical gaze and square glasses. He slapped Shiro's arm.

"More like telling ghost stories, aren't you?" The man retorted.

"Hey, they're entretaining!"

"No, they are disrespectful!"

Shiro rolled his eyes in what seemed to be a regular argument for these two. Allura felt confused.

"I'm sorry, but what's disrespectful?"

The second man turned to her, now. She felt the need to fix her hair and made sure she was presentable, for some reason.

"I assume you're the new resident who moved into the old McClain house?" He asked and she nodded, "well, miss..."

"Allura."

"Miss Allura, the truth is that we lost one of our own in that fire six years ago, and while it was tragic, the causes were found to be completely mundane and accidental. I find it disrespectful to take a tragedy such as this and make up ghost stories out of it."

"Oh," Allura said, taken aback, "do you know why the McClains moved, then? I'm just surprised how the house came to be so... affordable."

Adam sighed, "I don't really know. Takashi and I transferred to this station about two years after the fire and they were already gone. From what I understand, however, they were pretty close with Sargeant Kogane."

"Is he the firefighter who died in the fire?"

"Indeed," he said and led her to the wall of pictures. There, he pointed to a tall man with an easygoing smile who had his arm around a small boy that she recognized.

"Who is he?" Allura asked and pointed at the boy.

This time the man's sigh was deeply sad, and it was Shiro who answered her question. His smile was gone and she wouldn't have guessed this man had been laughingly telling her ghost stories just a few minutes ago.

"That's his son. Keith. He also died in the fire."

Water Fight

Kid Drabble

Finally, the last day of baseball. Keith knew Shiro was just being his nice self by having play on his team but Keith was not really one for organized sports. Practice, games, he’d rather be fixing his dirt bike or even getting a job.

“KEITH!!!! Get over here for your treat!”

Sighing, Keith walked over to Lance, “Damn man, do you have to yell everything you say?”

Hunk laughed, “Yeah, I think he does. Um, have you seen his family?”

Keith smirked, “Yeah yeah. So what’s with all the water balloons and shaving cream?”

Matt swung an arm around his shoulder, “Dude, it’s epic. The last day we go all out, we have a water balloon and shaving cream fight!! Then we eat!! Damn glad you joined our team, it feels good to end in the first place!”

Keith nodded, “Yeah, I like first.”

Keith looks around, trying to see if Katie is still here. Sometimes she’ll hang out with them after the game but he also doesn’t feel like drawing attention to his interest in her. He could feel his heartbeat speed up but deliberately slows his breathing. If the guys knew he was harboring a crush, well shit, he just didn’t want to go there.

After a bit, the team was armed with 2 water balloons and a can of shaving cream, with a bucket and pile of cans off by the big tree about 25 feet away. They were to start at a whistle. Keith was focused, he knew he needed to hit the tree and get extra supplies as soon as it started.

Chaos ensued. He was running, diving, and throwing like crazy. He also lucked out and found a bag that he tossed extra balloons in so he could move quickly.

Then out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lance moving slowly, crouched down low to hide among the bushes. He followed his projected trajectory and saw Katie was indeed here, sitting on a bench with her EarPods in, minding her own business, taking a few pictures of the mess happening around her.

Crap. Before he even consciously decided to move, he found himself running, dodging his teammates, and eventually skidding to a stop directly in front of Katie who lets out a surprised yelp. His left arm catches the back of the bench and he holds his weight while essentially covering Katie. His face is awfully close to hers because he swears he can feel her breath on his face when she says, “Hey!”

He grins, stating “Yo” while she simultaneously flushes pink while stammering, “Ke-wha-um, er-hi, “

So cute.

He stretches out his right arm and catches the water balloon Lance has launched at her. He stands to his full height and whips it back at him. Hit!

Katie stands now and screams, “You are so dead, dude!”

Keith smirks and offers his bag of remaining water balloons. God, this girl! Her eyes are literally sparkling with laughter and joy. Her grin makes his knees wobbly. And she smells like to him is summer, a hint of spearmint and lavender.

An hour later, Katie is helping the team pick up the mess around the baseball field. He’s keeping an eye on her, still trying to determine the relationship between her and Lance. Right now they are laughing and Keith is feeling anxious. He can’t ever recall paying this much attention to a girl. Or wanting a girl's attention for that matter. What the hell is he gonna do?

Suddenly, Matt’s face is in his vision, too close, with an evil grin.

“So! I see you’re paying awfully close attention to my darling little sis. Wanna share with the class?”

Keith stumbles back, “I don’t know what you, um mean. I’m just looking to see if everything is cleaned up.” Taking another step back, he bumps into Shiro. “What the hell guys?”

Shiro moves to his side, throwing an arm around him. “Look, we’ve been seeing a pattern, and just think of us as your wingmen!”

Oh crap. He looks away, past Matt, and sees Katie watching their odd little group. Softly, he mutters, “Yeah okay, what do I need to do?”

hiii uh. dunno if this will make any sense, im kinda just throwing my thoughts at you

OKAY. so. been thinking about kuron(again) and the thing im just realising how ALONE he is, at least at the beggining. the people he thought of as his family fucking KILLED him, stole his body, and then basically forgot about him for YEARS. and after being ressurected- like, in the first few days, weeks, months- did kuron had ANY support? anyone to lean on?? to help him adjust to being alive again?

i know he starts to meet new people and make friends, and thats great! but. at the beggining....... lance was in a coma 'n shit, team voltron propably wasnt too enthusistic about helping kuron, and it just hit me that, at least the way i understand it(i might be wrong), he had to figure EVERYTHING out by himself

Oh god yes!!! To be honest i dont really have like a detailed idea for this part of the story like at best i have this one idea where Veronica is the first one to find him. Like in my head Veronica has been trying to track down Lance cause he ran away/didnt give the address once he moved out, isnt picking up his goddamn phone and literally dropped from the face of the earth and she cant find a trace of him. That was until apparently Lance?? 'Attacked' Shiro?? Like Shiro's fine just fainted and on bedrest and according to Curtis, Lance was saying something about "he is still in there" before apparently using Magic?? Somehow?? And taking something? From Shiro?? Yeah Veronica has no fucking clue. But a lead is a lead and she was able to track down Lance's new home only to find 1) a guy butt fuck naked coming out of a quintessence filled tub like the girl from Shining and who looks a bit like her boss. 2) her brother unconscious. She instinctly about to pull a gun on him except Kuron just slips and hits the floor, so now Veronica has two men she needs to drag to a hospital. Joy.

So like yeah Kuron's first stranger-to-acquintance-to-friend is Veronica. She neither has the history of All That™ the others have with Kuron, knows a bit about the clone situation to not be weirded out by it, but also doesnt really care about the whole Evil Clone thing™, cause i am so sorry but she has seen this man fall on his face first 5 times and counting, cry over a fridge ad that had kittens in it, and try to name himself Frank Shelley, even if he somehow becomes Evil~ Veronica is sure she can just Take him down easily, and like what is she supposed to do? Just leave him? He clearly has even less of an idea what is going on and she cant in good conscience leave him like this.

And thing is that Veronica does want to support Kuron, because he deserves that! It's the right thing to do and he deserves that! But at the start he really is a stranger to her and Lance is more of a priority to her than he is, and he is like one of the only leads that explains what is going on with Lance. And while she wont admit this but Kuron can tell and like logically He Gets That™!! He Gets That™!!! And he wants to help Lance too!! But he's also someone who is used and thrown away by everyone around him and this shit hurts like hell. Like this is a recipe of disaester for both of them and will result in a shouting match but right now Kuron is too high on pain meds and pain of being alive again to truly get into it so.

So like physically he isnt really alone in figuring this out, Veronica is trying to help him as much as she can help him, and the hospital staff she dragged him to are really nice to him as well. Emotionally......well there is effort. Vero is trying! Heck she even defended him when Shiro suggested they should lock him up cause he was a danger to everyone and is evil. She is trying but she also has her own trauma, whatever is going on with Lance, her family having separation anxiety, her job, etc etc and she can only do so much, and like Kuron is also trying but he is also dealing with so much and pushing it into the back burner and my guy is just not having great time at all. So like yeah he did had to figure out so much himself

#Kuron uses what scrapes of emotional intelligence he has to be understanding of Veronica so he can be unapologetic Shiro-Keith-Allura hater #It's like you try to find your lost brother only to come across his freaky necromancy science project and him in coma what do you do?#obviously not abandon him! I finally began watching voltron

OKAY SO at the recommendation of a super cool person (@imperfection-you-will-find (sorry if you don’t want to be tagged) ) I got into watching Voltron: Legendary Defenders and I just finished the first season AND IT IS A REALLY COOL SHOW. I know I’m like 5 years late to the party but the animation! Characters! World building! All very interesting!! Love how smoothly they blend those 3D models into the show, it’s barely noticeable

Here’s a few thoughts (before I go binge the next season)

- first off it is BOLD that the first episode is an hour+ long. like damn they didn’t have to do that but they did and the pacing is surprisingly good for what they had to do, though I lowkey wish there was more adventuring-to-find-the-rest-of-the-lions because that part was pretty interesting, especially when they talked about having to form a bond with the lions first

- Hunk is a cool guy and I really like how he develops and ends up being one of the more serious characters (when, unfortunately, he isn’t the but of the joke. He’s neat but they make fun of his weight a fair bit and that’s not fun). Love how he has a good sus-detector, also he was SLAYING when he saved people during the season 1 finale

- Pidge is REALLY COOL and I personally (so far at least) headcanon them as enby. they also give off transman vibes and honestly that’s what I thought they were going to do with the character until the reveal. It’s cool how they handled it, and I love that the show didn’t go for an all-boy cast because that’d be disappointing.

- Lance is kinda annoying but he’s growing on me. I’m not the biggest fan but I like how he’s developing. Blue colour scheme is cool, but damn he really put everyone and an entire planet in danger just because he crushed briefly on a girl. Shame.

- Shiro is COOL. We don’t know much about him and the portrayal of his trauma is a really good thing to add. I do find it mildly funny (in a dark way? funny might not be the right word) that like. Lance and Hunk are there because vibes, Pidge is there for vibes but also they were on a mission of their own, Keith right now is very mysterious and gives off many vibes, but Shiro’s backstory is that he was tortured for a year, forced to fight, there’s the implication that his body was forcefully modified as he was trained to be a weapon, and also he’s probably killed quite a few people and he’s trying to deal with that and everything while like, they’re vibing

- Keith is COOL. Red lion swag. Love his somewhat morally ambiguous vibes, also I feel like he’s going to be a big projection character. They haven’t really covered his background other than he dropped out, but I bet there’s a lot more going on. I can DEFINITELY see he is liked. ALSO I feel like the whole “you fight like a Galra soldier” is more than just a one off line. I sense it. Plus the whole “you have to earn the trust of the red lion, you can’t just befriend it right away” gives off big flags of “HEY PAY ATTENTION”. I could write so much about this but I wanna go binge the second season xD

- THE CLIFFHANGER OF A FINAL EPISODE. There is so much I could talk about (the character development, the battle scenes, everything is so cool. It’s like seeing all the things I wish we could’ve seen in steven universe and also I think belos would be proud of the general genocide even if it isn’t religion based). I’ll keep it short and just say that DAMN SO MUCH HAPPENS AND IT IS VERY COOL

I’m going in spoiler free and it’s quite fun! Thanks for the recommendation @imperfection-you-will-find, can’t wait to watch more so I can fully appreciate your super cool edits and posts xD

Titan Maximum #1: "Pilot" | September 27, 2009 - 11:30PM | S01E01

Ah, thank goodness I’m done with Robot Chicken. Now I can finally move onto greener pastures to… oh, eat shit.

TItan Maximum was created by one or some of the Robot Chicken people and animated by Shadow Machine, who animated Robot Chicken and Moral Orel and oh! So much more. It’s fairly Robot Chicken-eseque in it’s look and humor. It’s a fairly straight-forward sitcom, parodying Voltron and shows like it. It’s more grounded than Robot Chicken; there’s no fourth-wall breaking gags and the violence isn’t as gratuitous. There’s an attempt at making the action have legitimate stakes, like you’re supposed to care about the stuff happening and root for the good guys.

The main problem is the characters and the writing. Most of the show’s dialogue involves characters just being mean to each other. Everyone is snippy at each other, and the show mainly consists of characters being petty and combative. You almost get the sense that this is actually a show about a dystopian future where being friends is illegal.

I get that there’s a time-honored tradition of comedies that star unlikable protagonists. Make no mistake, I’m not saying all of these characters are complete dickheads. Some are bigger dicks than others, obviously. I just mean I can’t come up with a single example of two characters who seem like they have a nice, life-affirming relationship with one another. Everyone is dismissive and contentious of one another. It just feels so meaningless.

This pilot episode was a half hour and for some reason wouldn’t play properly on the Roku adult swim app, which is a terrible, terrible app. Like, literally, for some weird reason you can’t stream a lot of shit through it, and if you go to the browser version you get way more stuff. I don’t know why. The Roku app also puts an autoplay overlay over the closing credits and obscures what’s on screen, even when it’s technically still part of the episode.

That’s maybe the only thing the show has going for it, by the way: the closing credits song, which is (I assume) in Japanese and is very typical of your average poppy anime closing theme.

Adult Swim Shows Transition to High Definition (September 27, 2009)

In case you’re wondering, yes, I do feel bad that sometimes these little spotlights into Adult Swim’s non-episodic Miscellanea are dashed off by me, just joylessly marking the date something happened. I just sat down to type this paragraph and thought “this would’ve actually been a good thing to do research for.” I do recall this happening, though. The network had already begun future-proofing certain shows by producing them in HD. Metalocalypse, Squidbillies, Aqua Teen, and The Venture Bros. to name a few.

Also, I remember being very curious as to how 4:3 material would be handled on the network. Disappointingly, it was stretched to fill the screen. I remember people reporting that it was stretched in a manner so that the center of the screen was less warped than the edges, but I’m not sure if that was true. At the very least, I couldn’t discern such a thing. In fact, I would record certain shows on Adult Swim that were stretched on my DVD recorder, which hadn’t been calibrated to to record native 16:9 content. This meant that 16:9 stuff would wind up squished, which was an easier fix on my TV than the other way around. So it would effectively unstretch the 4:3 stuff and it looked very normal to me.

I’m not sure if they started producing the “bumps” in 16:9 before the switch. There’s definitely a noticeable difference in text size of the bumps in the early days compared to later, and I don’t know if that’s specifically attributed to the aspect ratio change or what. Also, I’m not sure why I’m wondering stuff like this out loud. Sorta makes me sound like a huge fucking loser???? (!)
