SPLATOON DLC!!!!! aarrggrurahrgh it makes me so excited that they're coming in wAVES!!!! i feel like there might be two more waves bc of the 4 in colours behind the words expansion pack and the 4 tapes under the wave 1 screen but idk that might just be me grasping at straws shkdjfgh wave 1!!! hOUHRUHGRHG INKOPOLIS PLAZAAA ;;;;;;;; i think it was really funny that the whole fandom lost their shit at the dlcs being announced n then after getting over the adrenaline collectively decided that wave 1 doesn't actually do shit shkjdfhg but honestly i like it! splatsville feels a bit big for me plus i never got to play splat1 that much so it's nice getting to see where it all started. also sQUID SISTERS PERFORMING AGAIN ;;;;; i Love that their city of colours instrumental didn't change but their singing clearly did, and they look older noww!! ;; and also their clothes do the glowy glow now too!!!! so happy for them -w- also ss is my fav idol group of the three (but the other two aren't far behind so it's not rlly significant jskjhdfg) so obv i'm excited to see them again ;;;; i hope that w bringing back the plaza they also bring back AT LEAST the arcade minigames and everything, bc it looks like the arcade machine is still present in the plaza (but i might be tripping so don't take my word for it :p
AND THEN WE HAVE SIDE ORDER ouruhrhghgh god idc if there was barely any info in that teaser but gOD was it pretty. the music box?? everything was so. Different. just the teaser itself felt like this Huge leap from the usual energy of splatoon in almost every aspect, colourless, slow, inquisitive. i'm hoping that the story is deeper w this dlc! maybe even make it feel like an rpg? idk but like, it'd be cool i think if they took the lore stuff in oe, the dialogue, the chat rooms, the Everything, and really tied it into the gameplay instead of making it feel like something you can always just check later if that makes sense? ough i am sO fucking excited for side order,, the music, the aesthetic, the story, the Everthing man aURUGHUGGH
NEXT MY CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND KIRBY'S RTD DELUXE!!!!!!! AWOHHWHGOAWHGA i love kirby rtd ;;;;; it's my very first kirby game!! and one that i'd play over and over and over and over again. i'm so happy that it's getting remade for the switch ;;; absolutely looove the outline thing they did w the characters! i love that they kept the colours nice and bright and fun just like i remember! i'mm not sure yet how i feel about retconning king dedede's design hkdjfhg since rtd was my first game his design there is the one i'm used to n not his earlier design in kirby 64 crystal shards :p but yeah! i really like the merry magoland!! i played it a bit in the demo and it's a fun lil mario party minigame mountain feeling thing -w- aND THE MASK THING IS SO COOL??? U CAN WEAR THEM IN STORY MODE TOO!!!! i think it's really neat that they added the souvenirs to help you in ur playthrough n all that, and they added an easy mode w the magolor help thingy! i'm always a fan of people adding easy modes to games -w- (won't go too into that though bc i could be a whole nother post probably jkdhfgs) ooouhg n then there's the magolor epilogue!!!!! u get to play as the bastard!!!!!!!!!!!! he looks so pathetic n cute i'm sorry hkdjfhg i think it's really cool what they did! the whole upgrading thing n making it a bit more rpg-like which is new for kirby games afaik! oughh i'm really happy that they added new content ><
i nutted when i heard the gameboy advance startup sound sHKJDHGKJSHFDG that's like,, my very first nintendo console thingy ;-; specifically the advance sp! kinda hoping they add pokemon r/s in the future,, i think i might play m&l superstar saga after i finish bowser's inside story! :D

HE'S ALIVE!!! ngl after katrielle layton flopped i thought they'd never continue the series kdjfhg kat layton didn't even feel like a part of the series it kinda just felt like a spinoff or smth. but he's here! he's alive!!! and i love that the One Background we see is so distinctly layton ;; it's making me think of specifically professor layton and the unwound future. ugh gOD i am so fucking excited to go through another crazy adventure. i remember playing through Every layton game and each and every one has some crazy batshit insane twist at the end and you can Never really figure out what's going to happen until the very end and i LOVE that!!! i remember finishing Azran legacy and feeling a lil bittersweet. i'd wish that i could play it all for the first time again. katrielle layton came around but that was a bit of a letdown ;-; i barely even remember anything from it anymore :p but god. In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. !!! omg thank u Ceru! u might be one of my favorite mutuals <33 (putting this under a read more just so I can speak at lengths about each individual character)
Why I like Kagami: this is where I sarcastically ask “why DON’T i like him” but that’s literally the next question so; he’s everything i want to be and more. He has the determination and the willpower to make his own dreams come true, he’s gay as shit, he’s tall and buff and well-adjusted, mature enough to live on his own at an annoyingly young age, he’s funny and dumb and a total himbo as well as an excellent advisor bc of how grounded he is.
Why I don’t: I’m... not really good with explosive people. Violent men with loud voices especially scare me, and I’d think I’d flinch around him a lot and that would make me rlly anxious.
Favorite episode: it’s a toss-up between the Seirin fam visiting his place for the first time (is it where Kuroko confesses his love to him and then passes out in his arms? idk), and the onsen episode. I also loved all his plays against Kise and Aomine. AND the training camp w him running a lot in the sand.
Favorite season/movie: season 2 probably because he’s not a jerk anymore, but he’s still on his way to shed off any asshole behavior stuck to him. And I actually liked Last Game?
Favorite line: “There’s no such thing as useless effort.” and “This is our drama and we write the plot.” because he’s so ridiculous.
Favorite outfit: all of his casual fits... comfy but manly is my Jam
OTP: AoKaga....they’re truly soulmates, star-crossed lovers, canonically brought together by fate.
Brotp/otp no. 2: KagaKuro, I love them
Head Canon: I have several collections because I think too much about this boy, but here’s something I think about his family: he doesn’t know what happened to his mom. He never asked, because it wasn’t relevant, and he didn’t want to inconvenience his dad by questioning him. Occasionally, as a kid he felt like he was missing out on something (seeing other kids with their moms, feeling like they’re being treated with much more gentle care because they have moms), but as he grew older he realized that nurturing behavior shouldn’t have been limited to only a mother, and that he was just straight up neglected without any regards to missing a parent in his life.
Unpopular opinion: I never realized this was an unpopular opinion but I’m glad he went back to America at the end of Last Game. Obviously, it’s sad that he had to separate from the others, but I felt like Japanese basketball has always been just a stepping point to him, and now that he’d beat the best of them, it was time to move on. And it also warms my heart that him getting scouted in the US gave Aomine hope to aim big, too. I felt like both of them would’ve felt trapped in Japan with their skill sets.
A wish: I want him to be happy and gay and to confront Himuro and tell him how hurt he was by how he treated him and probably do the same to his dad too
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: ....whatever I’d say Shinsun has probably written it/will write it, but I don’t want him to forget about the GoM just because he becomes a world-famous athlete.

Why I like Momoi: she is SO nurturing and sweet and she cares so much about her boys!! I’m sorry it always turns into “how they remind me of myself” but actually I get feeling like a background character and being the moral/emotional/physical support of those who are more talented or in any way better than you. I feel a strange kind of kinship with her and also,,, feminine girls make my heart stop, and it doesn’t get more feminine than Momoi. Added: Aomine aside, the Touou team wouldn’t worth shit without her skills tbh, and she’s not in any way less than the GoM. Also, I appreciate her being the one person to try to keep their friend group together.
Why I don’t: Analytical People Scare me like!! how do u know stuff people are Unknowable!! I usually am also irked by her pointing out Riko’s breast size but I can just pretend that’s in a gay way (maybe Momoi likes girls with small boobs and she’s just bad at flirting) (also I don’t exactly liked her calling Aomine a “ganguro” but I have too little knowledge on the use of this word to say exactly why)
Favorite episode (scene if movie): uh the one where Aomine made her cry? It really came through how much love she actually has for her friends at that one.
Favorite season/movie: she was great in all of them!!
Favorite line: I can’t remember the exact quote and Google isn’t really helpful either but the one where she made Kuroko promise they’ll always play together or something? Or that they’re gonna beat Aomine?? idk?
Favorite outfit: I like all of them but mostly I just appreciate her wearing so many hoodies, she looks so cute in them
OTP / Brotp: it’s both AoMomo. I feel like the have the most special and strongest bond in the entire series.
Head Canon: She’s never been shown to do, but I feel like she wears Aomine’s clothes a Lot. Also, they definitely have sleepovers To This Day.
Unpopular opinion: Momoi is good at basketball and she loves playing!!! But try being successful in it when ur opponents are Giants and Way More Buff than you are
A wish: I wish people appreciated her more!! Both in fandom and in canon. She’s an amazing person and she has her own skills and strengths that are rarely explored or even mentioned anywhere.

Why I don’t: the whole “kissing children” thing rubbed me the wrong way but again, just like Momoi’s obsession with comparing breast sizes, it’s just bad/sexist writing from Fujimaki probably
Favorite episode (scene if movie): adshg any and all where she expressed that Himuro and Kagami are equally important to her <33 that shit makes my heart burst
Favorite season/movie: she only appears towards the end of s2 and in s3 so... I guess s3?
Favorite line: its so Bad that u literally can’t find the iconic quotes of these iconic ladies anywhere but... her story on finding her passion again through teaching kids, and anytime she mentions her fondness of Kagami and Himuro.

Once I realized that he shouldn’t have been the “bigger person” in that situation and one year doesn’t really mean much when you’re that young and that hurt, I realized he’s actually a good and hard-working kid and I’m sorry for giving him so much shade. Also I really like his snark and sass, but that might not even be canon at this point tbh
Why I don’t: I’m still sort of irked by him beating down on Kagami because he was envious/mad, but I realized the aspect of that situation that Really got to me was how devoted Kagami still was to him after all that. That devotion was what felt toxic, nothing that Himuro actually did to him.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
im a particularly fond of the dialogue i wrote for senior superlatives, because i personally think it’s the most successful attempt i’ve had at being funny and biting and tender all at once. i feel like i peaked with that fic. it’s still my favorite i’ve ever written.
H: How would you describe your style?
i genuinely have no clue!! i guess if there were a spectrum between dialogue-heavy and description-heavy, my writing would lean more toward the former. other descriptors i would use are words like direct/earnest/self conscious/wry/heavy usage of the word “like”/even heavier usage of both run on sentences and fragments

this isn’t necessarily a trope but it bothers me to read fic about ben and devi getting together right after s1 when it isn’t well developed. for me it usually demonstrates a lack of understanding of how both characters would process their budding relationship (platonic and romantic!) and usually reads as extremely cheesy and forced. however I am also not usually a person who enjoys reading fic set in canon..... so.

here is a list of my favorite fic writers in general (complete with rationale and how they inspire me) but for nhie im gonna highlight a couple of my friends, who also happen to be extremely talented writers!
if you read any nhie fic at ALL you’ve probably read something by magnetichearts and for good fucking reason bc she manages to write some of the best ben/devi content out there. her work is so sweet and funny and angsty and smutty and she waxes poetic like no one’s business. check out her work on ao3 and tumblr for a great time
flashlightinacave has some of the best, fluffiest ben/devi content. if you love yourself and/or love feeling Good Feelings from reading fic, please please please check her out! she’s an absolute beast when it comes to heart-wrenching scientific metaphors and vivid descriptions. you can find her work on her ao3 and tumblr
cori_the_bloody is such a gifted writer who produces fantastic fic that always makes me actually laugh out loud. her writing is so sharp and smart and always captures just the right amount of awkward-sweetness and i have yet to meet anyone who can capture the earnest kind of self consciousness and embarrassment and tenderness that she does in her ben/devi fic. her work is on her ao3 and she also writes incredible analysis abt nhie on her tumblr
one of my favorite, most underrated authors in the fandom is peterpan_in_neverland and she deserves all the attention and kudos for writing some of the BEST eleanor/paxton fic in the game. that pairing tag is basically her tag. i love the way she writes dialogue and her fics are fabulous reads for anyone who loves good writing and horny content ;) here’s her ao3 and tumblr

Hello! I hope you're not swarmed in all the matchup requests lol, but I have to say - they're great! I love how detailed they are and how much work and thought you put into them! It's admirable, to be honest.
But of course I came here for my own matchup lmao. I'm polyamorous so I'm okay with multiple matches (if you want to, ofc).
So, I'm an INTP, aesthetically edgy, nonbinary.... something, ig. I'm a retired weeb that became a kpop stannie and an e-girl/e-boy but I'm still very much a nerd when it comes to entertainment, like video games and stuff.
I've been told that I look intimidating ever since I was a kid and people tend to be lowkey scared of me at first - add to that the fact that I don't talk much with strangers and have a permanent murderous gaze. But once you force your way into befriending me I become a very loyal and chaotic middle school boy with a negative amount of braincells.
I used to be known as a cryptid - never took pictures, never left my room, so quiet you'd never know if I'm currently in the same room as you or not (my friends would call me irl Kuroko - yes, that even applied to when we played basketball in school). But then, one day I decided that I'm bored of being boring and turned into the loud, vulgar, hot friend (according to my friends, again) that you'd book a room with in a closed off apartment complex but then decided to get some kebabs at midnight and then had to climb over the fence once you got back because the gate man has already left for the night. That was not oddly specific at all.
I know that what I'm doing is usually dumb and dangerous and that's exactly why I do it. I'm dumb but I'm not an idiot, y'know? I also have problems with authority lmao. And while I love doing all the dumb stuff with my friends I'm extremely protective and always take the blow or make sure no one gets actually hurt. Self-sacrifice is a personality trait 😌💅✨ Also, I still have a crippling social anxiety but after mastering the art of dissociating I can go out in public!
I'm not a very affectionate person - I don't really like physical affection all that much. I'm cool with hugging, hand holding and cuddling but in moderation. I express my love towards those close to me by doing favours and helping them. You'll also know I like you and am comfortable when I stop with all the "uwu i love u ur so amazing" and start throwing (not genuine) insults around or bully you (affectionately). I'm also straight up emotionally constipated.
There's very few things in life that I take seriously and even less things that I care about in general. Because of that I can seem very apathetic and dishonest. That being said, I *do* have hobbies and interests (hyperfixations, actually), I don't have an artistic soul but I do a lot of different art (drawing, dancing, singing, rapping, makeup, fashion, etc.) - but my heart belongs to the world of linguistics.
I'm quiet pessimistic on the inside but I just implement it into the typical Gen-Z humor and ignore all my (often serious) problems. I prefer keeping a happy, funny, loud persona in front of others - I'm the distraction and mood maker!
I'd want my partner(s) to first and foremost - be my best friend(s). Someone who isn't very emotional and can solve problems with logic and in a calm manner. Someone who'll be happy with us just existing and vibing next to each other.
Also someone who'd wrestle with me. Or at least would let me throw them around a little, lol.
My faves are Levi, Belphie, Beel and Monie but I think I match with the first two better, imo.

Okay so I think you are in fact a great match to each of your favourites for a different reason!
So in canon I don’t think there much info about their take on mono/poly relationships. Sure, besides Beel all of the other candidates are known to get jealous easily but like being poly is not cheating lol. I’m not sure if someone already made HCs about this but I think it would take so much time to convince Levi that theres not one, but two (or more) people who actually love him oh god. But I think the others mentioned above would be ok.
So I decided to match you with Mammon!
Okay so when it comes to aes I think you and Mammon would make a matching couple!
Mammon also plays games from time to time, so you could spend some time gaming together. He is surprisingly good at them! Obviously Levi could relate to your otaku past, but that is the past.
I think your intimidating exterior would probably give off Lucifer vibes to Mammon at first. This is not something to worry about though - Mammon has a tendency of stealing or using people (he’s not crushing on) + he also looks down on humans. (these are sometimes ignored in the fandom but it’s all canon) So sure he is definitely stronger than you, but I think he would be less likely to pick on you like that if you have a pretty but intimidating face.
He is also one of the more loyal demons, so you have a priority on the same spot!
I think he would definitely support your chaotic ideas and steal kebab with you at night. You would annoy his brothers a lot and he would get you into trouble very often! So be prepared for some lectures by Lucifer.
The fact that you self-sacrafice might end up getting you in danger but Mammon is also protective so it’s just the two of you protecting the other while doing someting silly.
Mamon definitely has many favors to ask for, so it’s nice that you don’t think of that as a turn-off! However make sure he doesn’t use you
His love language is giving gifts so in return you can expect him to get you something!
I think he likes affection but definitely not in public and he will deny wanting a hug from you with his life
Okay so the fact that you actually call out your friends when they are being unreasonable is something that comes in handy! Mammon gets bullied a lot by his brothers - sometimes there is no reason, but other times he is not innocent at all. So it would be nice if you could shape his personality a bit!
I definitely see him with a partner who cares about appearance, so you being into makeup and fashion is a good bonus! He wants to set you off on being a model after all
He is definitely outgoing so you being able to sing and dance are great additional points! He will definitely show you off at some bars so be prepared!
I don’t think he is very fond of linguistics as really the only thing that gets him going is cash. He would probably look up how to make the most out of being a linguistic and he will definitely have a conversation with you about his findings
You two could definitely hit it off as best friends first! I mean he will not confess early, being a tsundere and all.
Okay so Levi would be better at solving difficult situations logically as he is an admiral at the navy. However there is a reason why Mammon is the second strongest that gets overlooked sometimes! If an issue arises he has ideas to solve them! These are not always very great ideas and they might sound silly but most of the time they work!
Mammon is definitely the best candidate to play-fight out of the potential candidates!! I imagine him being much stronger than you and giving you a hard time but he is not a sadist at all so he will let you win at the end

why yall should get into destiny, an incomplete list by me, with no spoilers:
-v fun game with some of the best feeling shooting ever. incredibly satisfying
-sounds are GOOD AS FUCK and the music is all a fuckin jam
-pretty environments! every location has a super rad aesthetic
-sexy four armed aliens. i guess u could bang the evil alien robots but i dont recommend it youll probably turn into one and die
-canon gays?? like lots of them? of all the couples in the lore where both partners are named, they’re all lesbian and gay couples. i cannot name a m/f pairing with both partners named
-lots and lots of npcs who arent white! significant npcs! like most of them actually! theres no fantasy racism or w/e either. not even the robot people are treated as not-people, they’re as human as anyone else. one of the major npcs in the lore and in game speaks hebrew, too!
-pretty girl,,,, many pretty girl. lov girl. u like bookish smart sarcastic witty girl? yes. buff butch girl with determination to protect her people? yes. sad, angry, edgy-theme intense girl with tragic past? yes. spunky butch mechanic girl with tattoos? yes.
-nathan fillion is a suave rogueish bi (fight me on this) robot badass with lots of funny one liners and an angsty past and has lots of feelings he doesnt like to talk about it
-u can be a gay space robot wizard if u want. or a magic blue space gunslinger and set a knife on fire. or a badass in big armor and flaming hammers
-ok the game itself has a lot of issues with like. actually telling story. it’s not great. but the lore itself?? incredible and all online for free and archived by fans and people love talking about the lore

rip that’s all I write too... tbh I used to write original fiction before but I find myself much less constricted by fanfic? I can explore the characters here more than I can in original fiction where worldbuilding takes most effort

my desk, my pc. I can write on my phone but I like to edit as I go and it’s hard to do on the phone.

as we head into this (american) thanksgiving, a lot of us are gonna be dealing with some Grade A Bullshit: retail work, bigoted relatives, etc. i wasn’t actually gonna do this originally, but then i realized what holiday was coming up right around the time of my blogiversary and i was like... welp. alright. guess we’re doing this then. things lined up too perfectly NOT to, and things can be kinda shitty for people around this time of year, so let’s put a little positivity back into the community! or something like that.
(yes i realize some of the people here are not american. no reason to deny my love tho.)

@ultimatetalentless have i talked about how much i love sin’s hinut lately? his and nanami’s friendship/rivalry (and his and chibot’s unresolved romantic tension) is so much fun to write and it’s so great having an Angst Partner to shoot terrible ideas at. on top of that i love talking to sin out of character and sharing some of the things we come across that remind each other of our muses.
@mideoku julie followed me and the following day, snakes started manifesting physically in my house. i get no peace from them. they follow me home every day and beat me down with a two by four while yelling down with cis. but if we’re being real here julie’s shitposting lights up my dashboard every day for better or worse and theyre actually a really cool person. we’ll fight in pokemon when u catch up to me binch

Commission: Hot & Cold (Or Maybe Hot!)
Series: Tales of Symphonia
Request: Lloyd and Sheena as baristas. Kratos as the boss man. Shenanigans commence.

This one was a lot of fun to write. =w= I haven’t played Symphonia in a long time, so I was a little paranoid I’d get everyone wrong, but my beta assures me I did well. It was really fun writing Kratos again, but I was surprised to see how nice it was to write Lloyd and Sheena too. A nice throwback to the game that brought me into the Tales fandom.

There were many things Lloyd had discovered in life that he liked, and one of them was coffee. It was one of the main reasons he’d leapt at the chance to work at his father’s coffee shop. While he still had the sneaking suspicion part of the reason he’d been offered the position was to keep him out of trouble after the totally-not-his-fault incident involving a children’s chemistry set and his uncle’s not-so-long-now hair, there was coffee. Free coffee. And free coffee was an incredible motivator.
However, as incredible as the motivation of free coffee -- and often times leftover baked goods and sandwiches -- was, sometimes he came just for the clientele. Especially one of the rare and brave few who was willing to talk back to Sheena when she started using what Zelos affectionately called her ‘pre-banshee screech.’
“Look, sir...” Lloyd leaned against the counter and took a sip of his drink, raising an eyebrow as he watched Sheena balance her weight on her palms to go nose-to-nose with a middle-aged businessman. “We don’t have pumpkin spice loaf cake. We’ve got bread and muffins and enough drinks to clog your arteries. So if that’s not what you want, then you’re gonna have to go somewhere else.”
The man, with the bushiest mustache Lloyd had ever seen, didn’t seem to find Sheena’s tone intimidating by any means -- one of the few he’d ever seen. Somehow he’d managed to look haughtier than before as he tapped the counter impatiently and scoffed. “Well then, sweetheart, I suggest you get in back and make some.”
“Uh-oh.” Frowning, Lloyd set his drink aside stood up. Sheena’s eyebrow was beginning to twitch, and that was always the first sign that someone was about to go through a window if they weren’t separated soon. As funny as the thought might be, trying to explain to management why the window was broken (again) would be hard. “Uh, Sheena…”
“Listen here, buddy…”
“Is there a problem, sir?” A hush fell over the coffee shop as a third voice joined the conversation and Lloyd watched as his boss approached the counter, arms crossed and mouth pressed into a thin line.
“Who the hell are you?”
“I’m the store manager,” Kratos replied, his tone flat and even, an eyebrow raising in a silent gesture for the man to challenge him again. “If there’s a problem here--”
Silence settled over the small group for a second time as the businessman looked Kratos up and down, the irritated red of his face slowly melting away into a panicked pale. “No. No, I… suppose there isn’t. I’ll just have a coffee. Sweetened.”
“Fine. $2.15, and I’m sure Ms. Fujibayashi would be happy to bring that to you once it’s finished.”
The man didn’t linger at the counter any longer than he had to after he paid and quickly scurried away to a table. Once he was sitting down, Kratos made easy work of filling a medium sized cup and offered it to Sheena with a neutral expression. “Salt and sugar have very unfortunate similarities at first glance.”
“Uh, yeah, I guess s--oh.”
“Hmph.”
“...damn, dad.” Lloyd muttered, only to get a soft tap to his forehead and a disapproving stare.
“Language, Lloyden.”
“Aw, come on, don’t--”
“I’ll be in the back if you require my help again.”
As silently as he’d come, Kratos vanished into the back once more. Almost immediately, Sheena dove toward the salt-shaker sitting on the counter at the same time Lloyd grabbed the sugar.
“Sheena!”
“Lloyden.”
“Not you too…” He grimaced and made an attempt to grab the salt. “Come on, we can’t just--”
“Boss’ blessing.” Sheena grinned and danced out of Lloyd’s grasp, giving the salt several hard shakes. “Whoops. Too late.”
“Sheena!” Lloyd gasped, stumbling to the edge of the counter to watch as Sheena approached the formally displeased man with the utmost glee. It would be a lie to say he didn’t want to laugh, but he also didn’t want to get yelled at. Still, they did have a pretty good shield if he tried. Kratos was a force to be reckoned with and as much as Lloyd might have enjoyed pushing his father’s buttons, he knew when to back off. Truly, his father could be terrifying.
“--ahem. Is there anyone at the register?”
“Oh, crap!” Forcing his gaze away from the spectacle about to unfold, Lloyd flew back to the register with a practiced grin. “Welcome to Hot & Cold -- Or Maybe Hot! What can I get for you--oh! Hey, uncle.”
“Lloyd.” Across the counter, Yuan regarded Lloyd with a small frown, his eyebrows -- one still unfortunately thinner than the other -- drawn together and jerked his head behind him. “She looks happy. What happened?”
“Uh, well…” Lloyd’s grin turned sheepish as he rubbed the back of his neck. “He was a total ass and Sheena was angry, but then dad--”
The rest of Lloyd’s explanation was cut off as the businessman retched, spitting his coffee across the table as he coughed several times, much to Sheena’s poorly veiled delight.
“I’m so sorry, sir! Was it too hot?” She grinned, and Lloyd was vaguely reminded of a tiger he’d seen in his old picture books. Maybe Zelos really was onto something about Sheena.
“T-this is--” The man stopped, his gaze darting nervously toward the back before he began to shake his head rapidly. “Yes--just a tad warm. I’ll… go and fetch myself some creamer then. Excuse me.”
“Oh my god…” Lloyd murmured, ducking behind the counter as he tried to conceal his own laughter, the task only growing harder as Sheena all but sprinted to the back and her guffaw could be heard even through the closed door.
“...I see Kratos got involved in another customer incident,” Yuan sighed. “What was it this time? Too many beans? Not enough beans?”
“S-salt,” Lloyd choked out, dragging his weight up to fumble clumsily with the register. “That guy’s face…”
“Of course it was. I daresay he has enough of it to season the sea.” Yuan snorted and motioned with his hand. “Green tea, same as always.”
“Green tea!” Lloyd chirped back, “Uh, large, two bags, three sugars and, uh…”
“Venti,” Yuan corrected, “I’d expect you would have learned these by now.”
“H-hey, I knew that. I just… I just forgot.”
“Hm… Between you and your father, I sometimes wonder how this place hasn’t had more accidents.”
“Hey…!”
“A pastry.”
“...huh?”
“Three sugars and one of your chocolate pastries. My usual order.”
“Oh, right. Okay, that’ll be--” Lloyd stopped, the proper amount already being held out to him with a sigh. “...it’ll be right out?”
A nod was his only response, and he immediately set back to work as Sheena finally reemerged from the back, wiping her eyes.
“Feeling better?” Lloyd asked as he began to pour hot water into his newest order.
“Oh, much, that was--” Sheena nodded, glancing at the door as the bell rang out again. Her expression faltered and a scowl took place of her once amused grin. “...and there goes the mood.”
“Sheena! Hello there, my beauty. I’ve been thinking about you a latte.”
“Ugh, don’t even start…”
“Aw come on, now. I know you turn me down a lot, I’m just asking for an extra shot today.”
Shuffling over to where Yuan was waiting, Lloyd grabbed a sharpie and scribbled out ‘sry about ur hair, uncl’ on the cup and slid it over with a pastry. His attention fluttered over to the register, where Sheena was flexing her fingers in warning as a mass of red hair Lloyd could only assume was Zelos backed away.
“Hey now, babe, don’t be mad. Can’t you feel what’s brewing between us?”
“If you don’t knock it off with the lines--”
“...charming as always,” Yuan muttered, taking an immediate sip from his hot tea without so much as a flinch. “You’ve learned to stay away from them, I see.”
“The last time I tried to save Zelos, I woke up in the back and dad was having an episode,” Lloyd shuddered. He really didn’t need to repeat that incident. It had been a disaster in at least seven ways. Maybe even twelve.
“...I won’t ask.” Lloyd smiled, lop-sided and grateful, it was probably better that he didn’t. Kratos has only just crushed his habit of fluttering near Lloyd whenever he was on shift with Sheena. It had been an accident, after all. “Good luck, then. It seems like you will need it.”
A cup of coffee obscured his vision before Lloyd could respond and he jumped, turning to meet the eyes of a very irritated Sheena. Her eyebrow was twitching dangerously as she gave the cup a small shake and thrust it into Lloyd’s hands. “Finish his drink before I pour it on his stupid face.”
Lloyd gulped, taking the cup as quickly as he dared to look over the order label. Coffee; extra sugar x3, and creamer for… “Nononever-at-stoptrying-dot-jerk?”
Sheena growled and Lloyd took a step back. The door rang again and he was all too happy for an excuse to dart away. At least dealing with Zelos didn’t usually risk life or limb. Usually.
“You know…” Lloyd began as he finally approached the table and offered Zelos his coffee. “If you keep up those weird names, one day she’s really going to throw you through a window.”
“Bud!” Zelos grinned, waving his hand in an exaggerated hello. “You wouldn’t let her do that to me, would you? We’re best buds! You don’t want to see me in pain.”
“No,” Lloyd admitted, “but I don’t want to be hurt either. I kinda think she’d throw me too if I tried to stop her.”
“...hot,” Zelos hummed, nodding. “Gotta love a hunnie that strong.”
“Uh,” Lloyd shrugged, “I mean, I can turn up the AC. The dial isn’t that hard to turn.”
Zelos choked, staring at Lloyd as if he couldn’t decide if he was purposefully being oblivious or truly missed what he’d meant. “...that’s okay,” Zelos pouted. “One of these days I’m gonna have to drag you out on a proper babe hunt. Then we can--”
“LLOYD!” They both jump as Sheena calls across the cafe and waves him over. “We need more Pum-Spice from the back. Mind helping me out?”
“Looks like we got caught,” Zelos sighed and waved Lloyd off. “Hurry up, before she goes full banshee.”
“...you know, sometimes I think you do it on purpose,” Lloyd shook his head and jogged into the back. Inventory was a mess after a late and overstocked shipment. Finding what he wanted could take a while. “Pumpkin… pumpkin… uhhh...”
“...Lloyd.”
Lloyd jumped, knocking a box down that fell neatly at his feet. “Dad! You scared me!”
“Lloyd.” Kratos repeated, an empty cup clasped in one of his hands. “Would you care to explain this to me?”
“Uh, it’s a cup?” Lloyd asked, slow and careful. It was, indeed, a cup. Maybe Kratos wanted more coffee?
“Very astute,” Kratos replied, holding it out. “This was just returned to me by a customer.”
Lloyd blinked and took the cup. “Uh, do they want a refill?”
“No.”
“Bad coffee?”
“No, Lloyd.”
“Err… salt?”
“...no.”
“So….” Lloyd shrugged, turning it over in his hands. “What’s the probl…”
Written on the side of the cup in his own messy script: Lord of the Tight Pants.
“Um…”
Kratos frowned, the look on his face the one Lloyd always knew was a sign of trouble. “Would you care to explain?”
Lloyd hesitated. There was really only one right answer when his father looked like this and a ‘girly guy with tight pants came in and ordered a fruity drink’ didn’t really seem to be the right answer. But it was the only one he had… and thus the answer he gave.
“Lloyd.” Kratos sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “As much as I want to encourage your… creative spirit, if you could avoid insulting customers, especially important ones, on their beverages, I would greatly appreciate it.”
“Seriously?” Lloyd could only stare. The man had come in early that morning with an attitude that was both horrifying and entirely too friendly all at once. His clothes had been tighter than Professor Sage’s classroom rules and blindingly bright in their sheer… whiteness. He’d looked like something that had walked right out of the sixties. Or maybe it was the seventies. History wasn’t Lloyd’s strong point, but the man had looked ridiculous. “But he was…”
“My boss.” Kratos explained evenly, eyes narrowed. “I may be the store manager, but I still have someone I answer to.”
Was that why he’d asked so many weird questions? Or why he’d interrogated Sheena? Oh man, he hadn’t even answered them truthfully. He’d sort of been a troll. And maybe made a small amount of an ass of himself. Crap. “Disco Fever is your boss?”
Kratos’ mouth twitched, a clear sign he was trying not to show laughter, and Lloyd felt himself relax. Good. He hadn’t ruined everything ever. “...yes,” he nodded, “and I would appreciate it if you were to write his proper name down on the cup. No matter how… true those nicknames may be.”
Lloyd flinched, his smile apologetic as he nodded. “Uh, sorry… about that.”
“Write whatever you please on the cups of your friends. But for strangers… behave.”
“...right.”
“Now,” Kratos bent down, scooping up Lloyd’s fallen box to place it in his hands. “The lunch rush is about to start.”
A yelp, followed by a small crash sounded from the front. “Whoa, whoa! Babe!”
“I’ll take care of the back,” he sighed, pushing Lloyd forward. “Just… please make sure they do not break anything important.”
“Calm down! I just asked for a little extra sugar--”
“I’ll show you sugar, pervert…!”
