IWTV S2 - Three spicy/spoilery reviews

The reviewers are just saying whatever they want, I guess! O_O

Here's my favorite bits from TheWrap, ComicBook, and IGN.

I've decided to mix and match them, comparing what they each say about similar themes/topics/reveals.

ELEVATING THE SOURCE MATERIAL

TELL IT! It's about adding DEPTH, y'all, not just a 1:1 page-to-screen.

Intellectual horror, instead of psychological horror--fascinating.

An "even more authentic adaptation" -- WE BEEN KNEW!!! I roll my eyes at book stans who hate on the show, acting like the movie was more accurate just cuz it was set during slavery times with white actors. 🙄 Like PLEASE, there's so much missing from the movie, or glossed over, or straight up changed, that the show-antis just demonstrate how shallow they are when their every attack hinges on the timeline/race/age changes. Cry harder.

MORE elevated than Season 1--you love to see it.

Yaaas, bring on the petty melodramatic mess, and fierce performances! 👏

CLAUDIA & MADELEINE

Because Bailey used profanity to convey her agony being a woman trapped in an adolescent's body in S1 too, I'm assuming Delainey will just cuss more? But cussing is all over the show, so I don't get it.

Everyone keeps raving about Roxane as Madeleine, but they've been SO CLOSE-LIPPED about her scenes, and it's KILLING me. 😭

"Deeply willful around Louis"--yeah, we saw a glimpse of that in the trailer; it's what he deserves. Give 'em hell, Claudia!

And yeah, she's PISSED that they cast her as Baby LouLou--imagine, being infantalized, and given the name of the father you've already gone through so much to emancipate yourself from as a "Brother" instead of "Daddy Lou." 😒 Eff Louis--where's Claudia's scythe at!?

LOUIS / LOUMAND

"Nonsense--" TheWrap isn't holding back a single punch huh?

"dating show contestants feigning authenticity to clumsily present themselves in the best light--" oof. 💀

Holy god; "begging the question...if Louis has just traded one abuser for another" GO AWF! 🚩🚩🚩

DANIEL / DEVIL'S MINION

Wow, so this must refer to Episode 5 from the episode titles list released recently. "Genuine horror".... 😈

RIP. 💀 Youngmaniel might see some action, but Oldmaniel's "utterly allergic and adversarial;" OOF. 💀💀

ARMAND

They keep saying petty. 😅 These messy queens are a trip!

"Far more powerful" -- I am SEATED~! I wanna see THE coven master!

Yaaas, come through Children of Satan/Darkness acolyte! 😈

"Scarred and transformed by the same man" -- they sound like war veterans. U_U

LESTAT / LOUSTAT

"the show's primary villain--" say it louder. Book stans need to stop projecting post-IWTV Lestat the hero/protagonist/MC into the narrative that LOUIS is telling, as a guy struggling to get over his ex.

"There to berate him for his poor choices--" this tracks with the trailer released today, too, where the producers said Dream-Stat would "pass judgement" on Louis' pisspoor actions.

PRODUCTION (Sets, Costumes, etc)

Yes, IWTV S1 was absolutely gorgeous; their attention to detail was immaculate. And so far it looks like S2 is gonna be just as nice. I REALLY like what I've seen of the Threatre's aesthetic.

THEATRE DES VAMPIRES & SANTIAGO

I freaking love this. XD

Agreeing with him about WHAT though? 🤨 That Louis & Claudia are hiding things? Or that they deserve to die because of it? (Especially since Lestat is OBVIOUSLY not actually dead, so what "crime/rules" are they actually breaking, Lord Kangaroo Court?)

TALAMASCA & CRITIQUES

Thank you lord god kamisama flying spaghetti monster he's a Talamascan, not another secret vampire.

But now I'm nervous, thanks to the ComicBook review:

Uh oh. The Talamasca feels forced & out of place. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

The AVENGERS INITIATIVE. 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

But they say it feels like "Daniel's being recruited--" YES PLEASE. 🙏 If Daniel's not gonna be a vampire, at least let him be a Talamascan. Ain't no way he can return to the mundane world after all this.

My BIGGEST complaint about IWTV as a franchise is its tenuous connection to the Immortals Universe. AMC is dropping the ball hard on creating an ARCU--Anne Rice's Cinematic Universe. There are SO MANY immortals & supernaturals we should've BEEN seen in S1, walking the streets of NOLA. I will say this every time: Oncle Vervain Mayfair should've been brought in from the OG pilot script. We should've seen Louis go to him for gris-gris before the poker game, and introduce Lestat to Vervain as a practitioner of what Louis thought was "European voodoo." Also: we should've seen Lasher. There should've been a scene where the Mayfairs told the vampires to GTFO their territory, and keep their hunting grounds on the other side of town. Like, the Mayfair Witches show sucks like you wouldn't believe, it's so stupid (looks gorgeous though), but the WORLDBUILDING is ripe for the taking! And AMC did squat with it!

Like, tbh, I don't see the point of a whole Talamasca show, and if it's handled by Esta & the gang from MW, then I don't wanna see it--I WILL, ofc, but I won't WANT to. Especially since we haven't seen any ghosts. ISTG, PLEASE have Merrick Mayfair in Ep7 or Ep8--not only will that bridge IWTV with MW, but it can perfectly lead to Blackwood Farm., while keeping the threads between vampires, ghosts, AND the Taltos (if they're determined to do a Lestat/Rowan crossover from Blood Canticle 🤢🤮).

I was wondering why so many reviews were giving it 4/5 or 9/10, like wtf are y'all being so stingy for!? But if this is the problem, then I'm not surprised, I've been complaining about it the whole time.

How many works do you have on AO3?

I have 29 works on AO3. I've been working on a new Lucifer fic for the past 2 years on and off (mostly off) and that'll be my 30th on the site. However, I do have 63 works on ff.net (29 of them are the same) from various fandoms.

What's your total AO3 word count? As of right now, I have a word count of 179,925 words on AO3. I know that total is sometimes some writers' word count for a single fic. ;)

What fandoms do you write for?

Right now, it's mainly Lucifer (and Supernatural). I've been writing fanfics since I was a sophomore in high school. On ff.net I have written for (in no particular order): Bewitched, The Big Bang Theory, Castle, Doctor Who, Forever, Heroes, Jimmy Neutron, Lucifer, Smallville, Supernatural, Timeless, and Will & Grace.

Do you respond to comments?

Yes! I try to respond to every comment if I can... at least on AO3.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't actually write angsty endings. All my fics have happy endings actually. ❤️

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, wow. Since all my fics have happy endings, it's hard to choose just one... for the ones I wrote over a decade ago, honestly, I can't remember... LOL. Read them if you so choose and pick your own. ;)

Do you get hate on fics?

I would get hate on fics on ff.net but thankfully (not so far) on AO3. When I first started writing fanfics, I interpreted some helpful advice AS hate, but it really wasn't. Thankfully the response is mostly positive on my writing. Sometimes I'll still get some "hate" on ff.net, but I still feel an obligation to post there for consistency since I cross-posted since getting an AO3 account.

Do you write smut?

No. (But I read it).

Craziest crossover:

The only crossover I have written was a Castle & Forever crossover that can be found on ff.net and AO3 called Ties That Bind.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I think somebody wanted to translate one of my older Smallville fics back in the day. Honestly, I can't remember which one or if it came to fruition.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not to my memory, but I used to beta all the time for Smallville. And I was a "consultant" on a fanfic on AO3 from a friend for a Forever and Quantum Leap crossover fic. Plus, I bounce ideas off with fandom friends in the Lucifer fanfiction world. ❤️

All time favorite ship?

Uhhhhhhhhhh... I can't say an all-time favorite ship because I love all of my ships equally. But I'll settle for my top two: Clois (Clark Kent and Lois Lane) and Deckerstar (Chloe Decker and Lucifer Morningstar).

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I've had a WIP for Sherlock/Sherlolly in my documents for quite a few years. It's a time travel one where Sherlock from post S4 gets sent back to the time between the end of S1 & beginning of S2. I don't think that one is ever gonna be finished to be honest. I never post fics until they're finished anyway, so at least there won't be anybody disappointed. ;)

What are your writing strengths?

I try to pride myself on the characters being written in-character - where the reader can actually picture the actor's expressions, mannerisms, etc - like they're watching an episode. Dialogue is definitely where I excel.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I really suck at descriptions. I'm not gonna lie. I have tried to work on setting the scene and character movements, etc but I still struggle with those factors.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I'm not really great at it. If the character is known to say words or phrases in another language, I might write it in a few times, but nothing that needs a long translation.

First fandom you wrote in?

Jimmy Neutron (on ff.net) when I was about 16 years old.

Favorite fic you've written?

I have a few, but honestly I'm more proud of my Lucifer stories and my one Supernatural story, so I'd have to go with a tie between my first ever Lucifer fic: The More Things Change... and my Supernatural fic: Been Down This Road Before. And right now the Lucifer fic I've been working on for 2 years is quickly becoming a favorite too. LOL. We'll see if people like it once I've finished it and started posting. ❤️

WOW, I was like “i wonder if they’re going to keep in the ‘vex calls scanlan useless’ bits” a day ago and they literally. just started it I’m insane my intuition

I’m really of two minds about the Pikelan direction they’re going in: I think it aids Scanlan in that it emphasizes his need to deflect sincerity with comedy. However, I think it really detracts from Pike in that campaign-Pike thinks Scanlan is funny. She likes his jokes. A lot of pike’s s1 arc in TLOVM feels inconsistent with her dislike of Scanlan’s crass side- like it’s very in her nature to find this stuff funny. Not that she can’t also like the sincere side, which she does, but just that I think her side of this narrative is making her character seem flatter than it should, especially when you group it with the fact she’s been given a lot of Kiki’s campaign personality traits

the drug trip scene is funny but was it necessary. there’s 8 minutes left where is saundor. or syldor. Where is the Vex focus. Maybe,, they’ll stay in the feywild for e8 while grog and gnomes head to Westruun?

Best Characterization: Grog/Pike

Overall Best Characterization: I’ll say Grog.

Okay so I liked this batch a lot, but I’ve got to come back to the question: Split the party- yay or nay?

And I’m still wavering between yay and nay.

Yay: I think the character beats particularly that came from the Grog + Gnomes side of the story hit harder with them sequestered on their own. This new “Grog finds his strength” taken literally storyline is a huge boon to Grog’s character even though I found it a bit superfluous at first. They were able to emphasize the Pikelan and to a lesser extent Scanlan/Grog dynamic that they haven’t been able to touch on as much before.

Nay: I felt like the episodes had some wasted time. Episode 7 I felt like we didn’t need the Feywild side of the story (the most important part is meeting Garmelie- the fight in that episode is essentially to drive further home that Vax is on a diverging path, something I think 4-6 already firmly established). Episode 8 I felt we didn’t need the Grog/Gnomes side of the story (meeting Wilhand was great, but the B plot of “giving grog an enema” was weak)

Ultimately, I think I come down on the side that I would’ve preferred the party to stick together. The weaker plot lines I outlined above I think could’ve been axed and the whole party could’ve gone to the Feywild, we’re still given significant Grog + Gnomes content, and then we’re given just a bit more time to stew in the concept of Syngorn. The punches, specifically with Perc’ahlia in Syngorn, fell flat to me because I don’t think they were given enough time. Had they cut the original E7 fight to make more context for Syngorn, I think it would’ve gone well in expanding context. Then, E9 could’ve remained totally the same just with the rest of VM along for the ride.

That said, maybe the split was worth it just for the country traveling Pikelan bop.

something that rly stood out to me on the Byler proof doc is how troy’s homophobic bullying towards will always was directed at mike, like we don’t even see them specifically bullying will, just mike about this… like it’s his boyfriend who was hurting ! and then like with el and mike, I saw a gif set of the scene in s1 where el asks what happened to his chin, and he starts to talk about the bullies and is fumbling and el says she understands :-) and it’s very nice and cute (and such a contrast to season 4 ~ wow) but idk man. its like yeah they bully mike but why right after that conversation did they trip him and why does this parallel further into el being different, bullied for it and mike being different, bullied for it, like !! man idk. the subtext is just absolutely incredible tbh. idk. it just makes so much sense for them to be together and it’s in such small detail and it’s so beautiful for that reason and the general audience doesn’t matter to the differs, they are doing what they wanted to do and that just gives me so much confidence, like from a writer’s point of view, like being so subtle about those cues and lead up and hints towards this big romance like that’s the dream? and yeah, some people may miss the point but to those that did see it: it’s so incredibly beautiful and well constructed and appreciated to have your audience notice all of those fine details you put in… like that’s the dream. making art/writing is always about showing and not telling and that’s exactly what they did with Byler and it’s just like… magnificent.

Graduation

⚠️SPOILERS FOR s1 ⚠️

“Smile!” Julian squinted as the camera flashed strained his eyes.

The man behind the camera, Jones laughed as he looked at the picture. “Ah look at you! You look great kid!” Jones smiled as he handed the photo to Julian.

Julian made a fake-smile face as he looked down at the photo. Gabriel and Sofia in the photo looked fine, great even. But himself in the photo was…interesting. In short, he looked like..something he couldn’t describe. But that didn’t really matter to him. ..Well it did a little bit but it didn’t really affect today.

Today we graduation for him.

He’d worked hard in Highschool. Not just Highschool, all his school years he’s worked hard for graduation, especially after Juvie. Ever sense came home from the detention center, he has had a hard time thinking about his future. But today felt special. Maybe he did have a future, maybe he did. He sighed as he took of his graduation cap and looked down at it.

“You good kid?”

Julian looked up to the man next to him, it was just Gabriel who had his hand on his shoulder. “Oh I’m fine.” Gabriel patted Julian back a bit, “well I just wanted to let you know-“ Gabriel was cut off by the sound of sniffing. He turned around to see Sofia,She was holding a handkerchief up to her nose and eyes. “Sofia what’s wrong?” Sofia looked up a bit, wiping the underneath of her eyes. “Oh it’s just,” she sniffed a bit, “I’m just so happy!” She said trying not to cry more then she already was. “Oh Sofia” Gabriel laughed a bit, pulling Sofia into a hug. Julian smiled a bit, he then felt the he felt the feeling of someone hugging him, it was Gabriel and Sofia hugging him.

Julian then felt the feeling of someone or something staring at him, he turned his head around to some people giving him awkward stares. He was used to it even though it made him visibly uncomfortable, which made people more uncomfortable around him. Gabriel noticed this and pulled away from Julian. “As i was saying, Me,Jones and Sofia have a surprise for you at the station!” Gabriel Said excitedly. Sofia quickly took Julian’s hand, she started running to the car with him laughing. “SOFIA-“ Julian yelled trying not to trip as Sofia was basically dragging him.Gabriel and jones started laughing at the sight they where seeing, Julian looked like he was begging for dear life as Sofia was dashing to the car,laughing as Julian was trying to tell her to stop.

Once they all got to the station, Julian had been blindfolded so he couldn’t see the surprise they had planned. “Where are you taking me?” Gabriel laughed, “you’ll see” Sofia giggled a bit. “We’re here!” Julian sighed a bit taking on the blindfold that was he was forced to wear.

“SURPRISE!” Multiple voices yelled.

Julian looked in awe as what was upon him. There they where. The whole entire GPD smiling and laughing. There where balloons and ribbons around the room, along with a banner that said, “Happy Birthday !” With the word “Birthday” crossed out. Julian smiled, “wow uh..” He looked down at his shoes he didn’t know what to say,he’s never had someone do like this for him before. He rubbed his hand behind his back, “We wanted to celebrate your graduation!” Cathy yelled with excitement. Julian laughed a bit as he was quickly dragged out of the doorway by Sofia, he felt happy, he was happy. And he was happy to be with his..family.

Turn Week 2023:

My Origin Story!

Hi! It’s me, tallmadgeandtea, aka Amanda, and happy Turn Week 2023! Sometimes, it’s hard to believe I haven’t always been in this fandom or had this blog, but anyways, to quote my mother’s favorite movie: Let’s start at the very beginning. A very good place to start.

When I was a child, I was a fan of Liberty’s Kids, also known as the gateway drug for becoming interested American history. I was so obsessed I forced my entire class to watch it but THATS IRRELEVANT AND EMBARRASSING, OKAY. That year, I said I wanted to be a historian in my school’s yearbook, which was cute but also a bit…. Weird… of me. Yeah, I liked history before Hamilton, AND before Turn! (Wow, what a cool brag.)

I’ve seen a couple people say the started Turn but gave up during the pilot and, well, I was one of those people. I tried watching it before my very first trip to Colonial Williamsburg, and I don’t even think I got ten minutes in? I definitely don’t remember seeing Benjamin in his blue and gold or covered in dirt and blood, so…

But, a couple years later- late 2019 if we’re being exact- I decided to start a book called Alex and Eliza. I only got a chapter in when I remembered there was a show on Netflix about the revolution, and I was like hey! Why not watch it? And by episode three, I was obsessed. I watched s1 in a week, and I actually started my turn fic- SS&SP- shortly after, which is insane to think about. Then I watched seasons 1 to 3 in a month, (on my phone, like a CRAZY PERSON) and I was like, well, now what? I loved everything about the show, but I didn’t know if there was a fandom or if I was just screaming into a void.

I lurked for a couple months on here before finally deciding to make my own Turn blog. I’d been on tumblr for years, but I never actually posted my own content and after years of being on fandom twitter, I was like, “Wait, how do people talk on here?” But I like to think I’ve figured it out! I decided on tallmadgeandtea because, well, it’s two things I love very much. And of course, 2020 happened, and I spent so much time on here talking about the show and getting to know everyone! It seemed like we were all finding the show and it gave us something to look forward to.

I started posting SS&SP and doing Turn and Teas, and the rest is history! Happy Turn Week 2023!

Watching Lost 20 years later is a trip. I'm still in s1, made it to ep 16 last night. Some thoughts (spoilers obvs):

14 year old me would never have believed how sexy John Locke is now.

Charlie is still poor perfect angel baby who did nothing wrong

Wow Boone and Shannon are SO YOUNG

These early episodes are so good, no wonder this became a TV phenomenon type thing. Even the characters I dislike have good stories so far.

Even though Kate is the one who gave Jack all the guns, he still gives one to Sawyer before her when making the hunting party for Ethan. Then Sawyer is all oh look, good thing I have an extra gun in my pocket and gives it to her. This right here is why Sawyer >>>> Jack.

Speaking of Kate, my husband somehow has never seen lost, and he was very excited to know that the Wasp is here

Same with DDK, tho he knew that before.

Hello, my dear anon! 💗 thank you so much for the sweet ask!! It really means a lot to me. 🥰

I've been okay, with some moments of greatness.

I took a break from this blog for a while, I guess because the fandom was getting me down a bit. I started hanging out on my other blog and got reeeeally into some other fandoms like Our Flag Means Death and, to a lesser degree, Loki (and also just started watching Yellowjackets S1--WOW is it intense).

Byler is still my favorite ship and I need it canonized more than anything, but it's been good to fall in love with some new characters and ships in the long, long wait until S5.

More recently, IRL, I went to an amazing multi-artist show with my friend from out of town, then continued on to a road trip with said friend to a famous national park I'd never visited.

Both of these were bucket list goals of mine, and it was really good to spend time talking to my friend, since we live far apart and if I'm being honest, I've been pretty lonely for a few years now.

Work has been getting me down for a while now also, but I've learned some good news in the past week that may lead to more money in 2024 (thanks, golden luck potato!!)!

Health issues remain mysterious and obscure, but manageable for now. I decided to postpone my last couple appointments in favor of taking the trip with my friend, namely because the doctors never have any answers for me and for once, I wanted to use the money for something fun. I don't regret it at all.

So yeah, I don't know how long I've been away, but that's been a lot of it.

I don't know if it's a fandom problem or a me problem, but after a while I tend to get burnt out on fandom wank and run away.

It happened with Byler and more recently with OFMD, whose fandom I both love and despise. Some of the takes from a certain slice of the fandom are so rancid, I wonder if they get the characters at all. Add to that a very disappointing finale and frankly bizarre interviews with the showrunner, and suddenly I needed a break from that, too.

(Tbis may be a me problem after all since I tend to run from people and friendships/relationships and ghost them, too 😬)

Speaking of which, I'm pretty bad at answering asks most of the time, but yours was so kind and lovely that I felt the need to try.

Sandstorm - Desert Survival: Chapter 6

Location: Hotel Resort

Characters: Hinata, Yuuta, Adonis, Kouga, Kaoru & Rei

TL Note:

Yuuta makes a pun with the word for “normal (普通 / futsuu)” and their unit name “2wink (pronounced tsuuwinku)” which combines to make “Futsuuwink”. I couldn’t come up with a pun using both of these words/meanings so I opted for alliteration instead.

Kouga: (Argh, dammit! I don’t get it! Just what is goin’ on!?)

(I don’t understand! I’m worried about Hakaze-senpai and Hinata since they’ve just been thrown out into the desert.)

(But we don’t even know where we currently are, either!

(This probably isn’t Japan, right? It’s supposed to be the middle of winter right now, but it’s so friggin’ hot! What’re they makin’ us do here…!?)

(The explanation we got from the management on “Hallhands” was the bare minimum and it didn’t mention anythin’ in detail. They didn’t even reply even when we asked them questions.)

(I know we’ve gotten caught up in somethin’ bad, but we don’t know anything important!)

(Normally, Sakuma-senpai would tell us what was goin’ on like a god who was overlookin’ everythin’.)

(He’s busy tryin’ show his personality through that weird mask and seriously hasn’t said a word…)

(Yuuta looks like he knows somethin’ and all he does is tease us.)

Hinata: I’d say the same about you, Oogami-senpai. You seem more hyped up than usual. Are you looking forward to “SS”~?

Kouga: You got a problem with that!? Actually, why aren’t you guys excited at all!? It’s the biggest event in the idol industry.

It’s a battle to see who’s the strongest idol out there!

Last year, we got our rights taken from us by “Trickstar”, but this year, anyone can fight for it!

You gotta aim for the sky if ya a man! Gyahahaha ☆

Hinata: Wow… Oogami-senpai, your bad parts are showing. Has there ever been a time where you thought “If ‘Trickstar’ is doing well, then…” and raised your hand to join in too? Did things actually go well for you?

Kouga: Shut it! It’s true I’m kinda traumatised after “fine” beat us to a pulp after the “S1” in spring last year!

But if Sakuma-senpai and Hakaze-senpai actually showed what they were capable of, then we would’ve definitely won!

Yuuta: What~? You can make whatever excuses afterwards~

Kaoru: Yeah. It’s kinda lame to say things like the fish that got away was too big or the grape was too sour, you know, Kouga-kun~?

Kouga: I ain’t sayin’ I’m a sore loser!

If anythin’, we’ve wasted a lotta chances to show that, so we rolled up our sleeves and faced it head-on!

You better do things properly this time, Hakaze-senpai! Imma kill ya if you don’t put your all into it!

Kaoru: Say what~? I’ve been working pretty seriously recently, haven’t I?

Adonis: Indeed. Good job, Hakaze-senpai.

Kaoru: Huh? Why do you sound like you’re my boss or something?

Adonis: I wanted to give you a compliment but… was the phrase not appropriate?

Rei: …………♪

Kouga: Hm? Sakuma-senpai, did you open your eyes just now? Sorry, you were tryin’ to sleep and we woke you up righ–

Rei: ……… *Ignores Kouga and turns the other way*

Kouga: ……… *Has a look on his face like the world has just ended*

Adonis: Hm? What’s wrong, Oogami? Are you carsick? You look pale.

Kouga: No, uhh… What? Sakuma-senpai, you definitely heard me, right? Why–

Kaoru: Rei-kun has been quiet this entire time. He’s usually energetic during the night, though.

He’s travelled all around the world in the past, so I don’t think he hates travelling. Or is he not feeling well?

Rei: …………

Kaoru: Oh, he closed his eyes again. Maybe he’s just sleepy. It feels like he’s gone back to normal in terms of day and night activities during “SS”.

Kouga: Yeah, we’ve gotta do the same as the others in “SS” and do stuff during the day…

Is that gonna be okay? This guy loses a huge chunk of his energy in the daytime.

Kaoru: Well, he probably will be. He’s Rei Sakuma, after all ♪

Rei: ………♪

Adonis: Hm. He’s moving about. It seems he can hear us.

Kouga: Then, why didn’t he respond to me…? Did I do somethin’ to get on his nerves…?

Yuuta: ………♪

Hinata: ………?

Seonghwa woke up as soon as Mars had licked his face.

"Urgh... Mars, don't do that," Seonghwa wipes his face with his hand and sits up. Mars barks next to him and Seonghwa rubs his eyes, watching Mars stand up against his nightstand, he pushes his phone towards him. Seonghwa picks it up, squinting to read the message on it. "Yangyang? What does he want?" Seonghwa yawns.

Night Bowl. Tonight. 10 p.m.

Seonghwa's brows furrowed, naturally, he knew the location, he'd been to your aunt's restaurant a number of times before, but what could he possibly want? Mars barks next to him, as if to answer him.

"Working as a double agent, are you?" Seonghwa asks. He looks at the time, it was still early in the morning. He had a few schedules to get to beforehand. "How is she?" He asks. Mars tilts his head to the side. "Oh, come on, you know who I mean." Mars seems to smile as he hops onto the bed, resting his head on Seonghwa's lap. Seonghwa moves to pet him, and Mars responds by lightly biting him, not enough to hurt, but enough to keep Seonghwa's hand in place.

"Yup, you definitely deserve that," Hongjoong chuckles from the other side of the room. "Mars, bite him harder." Mars barks and applies more pressure. "Looks like we know which side he's on."

"Mama's boy," Seonghwa glowers. Mars rolls off of the bed and leaves the room. "Do you think he's going to run away again?"

"Probably, just hope he doesn't find a way to snitch on you to (Y/N)," Hongjoong sits up in bed to face Seonghwa. "I'm happy for you, really," he says, "it's not easy to be in a relationship as an idol, let alone with one."

"We're not on shore yet," Seonghwa sighs. He couldn't help but notice the strange foreboding feeling surrounding him. Something is going to go wrong, he knows it will. Nothing ever seems to go right with you two. Your first date, even the second one, meeting his parents and meeting yours, your relationship being exposed, and now this.

"Hey, don't overthink things too much," Hongjoong speaks up. "I have a really good feeling that everything will work out fine."

"I hope so."

"I know so," Hongjoong confirms. "You're tenacious, (Y/N) is stubborn, you're perfect for each other. Whatever is coming your way, I know you'll both get through it," Hongjoong adds. Seonghwa could only glance at him.

Despite their words, Mars trots back with a shirt in his mouth, now spotted with saliva, but it was clear what it was nonetheless. It was a white blouse with an undone ribbon in front.

"Now, where did you get that?" Hongjoong asks. Mars barks, as if to answer.

"I threw it in the laundry, figured I could give it back to (Y/N) next time I saw her," Seonghwa clears his throat. Hongjoong could only laugh.

"Well, well, when was the last time (Y/N) stayed over?"

"Never, it got mixed up with my things when we went to..." Seonghwa's voice trailed off. "When we went to Rome."

"Rome, wow, I still can't believe that the company sponsored that."

"I mean, we did have to make content," Seonghwa shrugs.

"It's still a trip regardless," Hongjoong scoffs. Whatever he said next fell on deaf ears. Seonghwa only picked the blouse up and folded it nicely.

He'll make things right again, he knows he has to. One step at a time.

"What are you going to do in the meantime?" Hongjoong asks. "Plan your strategy? I know your parents already want you and (Y/N) back together, what about hers?"

"I'm meeting an old friend of mine, actually, he recently moved to Seoul so he's been wanting to go out," Seonghwa shrugs. "Besides, I know (Y/N)'s parents will be supportive regardless, or at least I hope so. We'd only met the one time they came over here to visit from the States, but even then, they were just glad that she found someone she really liked," he adds.

"(Y/N) and her parents aren't that close?"

"No, or at least, not as close as I am with my parents." Then, suddenly, his expression grows distant. "I think... I think my real problem would be with her brothers." At this, Hongjoong sits up. Mars' ears also perk up, as if this was the first he'd heard of them too.

"(Y/N) has brothers?!"

"Yeah, she doesn't talk about them much though, but when she does it sounds like they're close," Seonghwa leans against his bed frame. "Either way, it's not important right now. Her younger brother's in the States and her older one's... somewhere, I've never met them, actually. From what I hear from (Y/N) he's a bit of a homebody," Seonghwa frowns and stands up. "I'm going to go get ready now, don't wait up for me," he walks over to the closet and the conversation ends there.

"Yangyang!" Your voice was shrill in the WayV side of the dorms. Kun only stared at you when you walked in after he said the door was unlocked. "Where is he?"

"What did he do?" He spoke with a voice of a thousand tired men.

"I can't find Mars anywhere, have you seen him?" You crossed your arms.

"Mars? No, I can't say that I have, Yangyang's in his room though, if you want to ask him."

"Thanks, Kun, I'll be in and out!" You smiled and walked down the hall. You knocked on the door quickly and opened the door. "Yang, have you seen-" your words got caught in your throat. Yangyang was staring at you with wide eyes and you matched his expression. With a razor pressed to his leg and a can of shaving cream in his other hand, you both stood frozen for a few seconds longer. "Uh..."

"God dammit, woman, can't you knock?!" Yangyang shoves you out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

"I did knock!" You shout back. "Who the hell shaves in their room?!"

"I do!"

"It's disgusting."

"It's practical."

"Oh my god," you hit your head against his door. "Whatever, have you seen Mars?"

"Mars?"

"Yes, Mars."

"No? Why?"

"I can't find him anywhere!"

"I get this is like an emergency," the door opens and Yangyang, now wearing a pink hoodie and orange shorts, a horrid combination no doubt put together just now, leans against the frame. "But could you not have texted me about this?" He asks.

"I was going to text the chat, but my phone died and I can't find my charger- Ooh! Before I forget, can I borrow yours?" You smiled. Yangyang leaned to the side and handed you his. "Thanks! I'm going to check the Dreamies next. Just, let me know if you've seen him."

"Yeah, yeah, I will!" He closed the door and you were on your own again.

"Any luck?" Kun takes small sips of his coffee.

"Not enough," you shook your head. "Mind if I leave my phone here to charge for a bit?"

"Go ahead," he nods his head toward the outlet, not looking up from his phone. "I'll let you know if I see Mars wandering around here."

"Alright, thanks again," you plugged your phone in and stepped out, walking over to the Dream side of the dorms. One knock was all it took before the door swang open.

"Hi, (Y/N)," Jeno took heavy breaths and had a nervous smile on his face.

"Hey, Jen, just came back from the gym?" You asked, looking at the time.

"Yup!"

"That's early, even for you," you hummed.

"Yeah, yeah," Jeno nods his head. "I've been wanting to work on myself lately, you know? You should come with me next time! I'm always more productive at the gym when I go with someone!"

"What about Jaemin?"

"Too early for him! Come on, (Y/N), it'll be fun! So fun, in fact, that I'm going back right now to get more reps in, you should come with me!" He steps out of the door and closes it behind him.

"What are you hiding, Lee Jeno?"

"These massive guns," Jeno rolls his hoodie sleeves up and flexes, earning an eye roll from you.

"Have you seen Mars?"

"Mars? No, but I'm sure he'll turn up after we go to the gym!" Jeno nods.

"Huh?"

"I mean, Xiaojun hyung is over there right now, Mars and Bella usually play a lot, maybe he knows?" Jeno insists.

"That's true! Good thinking, Jen! Alright, I'll go get ready and we can head over there!"

"Yeah, yeah!" Jeno nods his head exaggeratedly just as the door opens behind him.

"Lee Jeno! What do you mean you lost Mars?!" Renjun shouts. At that moment, all the color in Jeno's face drained. You leaned over to the side.

"Mars is missing?" You ask.

"Well, Jisung's been crying about it all morning, so yeah," Renjun sighs.

"Uh... hold on a second, could I borrow one of your phones?" You ask. Renjun hands you his and you type in the first number you thought of.

"You know what, Yeosang? I'm sick of your shit," Wooyoung huffs. Yeosang rolls his eyes.

"Oh yeah? That makes two buddy."

"Wait, that doesn't make sense," Mingi shakes his head. "Yeosang are you also sick of your own shit or Wooyoung's shit?"

"Why would I be sick of my own shit, Mingi?" Yeosang scoffs.

"I was just saying! You're the one who said it wrong!"

"Okay, okay, break it up," Hongjoong steps in. "What are you two arguing about now?" He looks between Yeosang and Wooyoung, who are each holding pet food.

"Yeosang thinks that Mars likes beef but I know that Mars likes chicken more," Wooyoung explains. Yeosang groans.

"That's not true! Mars always has leftovers when you feed him that crap!"

"I just give him a lot so he doesn't starve!"

"Why don't we just scoop each into a bowl and see which one he eats first," Hongjoong sighs. He pauses when his phone starts ringing, seeing an unknown number. "Hello?" The other members of ATEEZ stood in tense silence.

"Hey, Hongjoong! I'm glad you answered! It's (Y/N), I'm using Renjun's phone."

"Oh! Hey, (Y/N), what's up?" Hongjoong immediately relaxes.

"I was going to call Seonghwa but I had a feeling that he wouldn't pick up after the whole fiasco, you know? But, anyway, hey is Mars there? No one's seen him over here."

"Yeah, Mars is here- Hey! Since I have you on the line, let me put you on speaker really quick," Hongjoong moves the phone from his ear and taps on the speaker button. "(Y/N), does Mars prefer chicken or beef?"

"Hm? Neither, Mars likes pork."

"What?!" Wooyoung and Yeosang's voices were overpowering. The group could hear your laughter through the speaker.

"Why didn't you ask Seonghwa? He knows that too, I'm sure."

"Hyung said that he had to step out for a bit!" Wooyoung walks up to Hongjoong and speaks into his phone. "I think he mentioned that he was meeting a friend."

"That's good! He needs a break from you guys every now and then," you chuckled, "well, I have to head out too! I promised Jeno I'd go to the gym with him, so I'll see you guys sometime soon!"

"Bye, (Y/N)!" The group shouted out before Hongjoong hung up. He put one hand on his hip and looked at Yeosang and Wooyoung.

"Well, we know what kind of food to get from now on," Hongjoong says. "Just finish up those two first and then we'll get the right one."

"I can't believe we never considered pork," Yunho frowns.

"He always ate the beef one," Yeosang grumbles. Mars' ears shift downward as if he felt guilty. The look in his eyes were enough to show that he wanted to head back to the NCT dorms, right away, preferably. Maybe if he was lucky, the one they call Johnny would throw him a pork chop. Mars whimpered, his brain filled with thoughts of food.

"Mars! You're drooling!" Yeosang grabbed a paper towel and wiped Mars' face. Mars spots the bag of dog food in Yeosang's hand and a cry slips out of him. If he didn't miss them so much, he'd have ran back to you in a heartbeat. The life of a dog is hard.

Seonghwa adjusted his mask carefully while he waited in front of the café. He stared at the message on his phone, he was slightly surprised that Kyungjae still had his number, considering that they exchanged it so many years ago. They were both in the same club in grade school, and Seonghwa being Seonghwa he did his best to help the younger members out with getting adjusted to club duties and activities. Kyungjae just so happened to be the one of his dongsaengs that he really got along with. They were close up until Seonghwa had graduated, and after that, their interactions were very sparse. They hadn't seen each other in person until that day about a month ago.

"Hyung! Hyung! Hey, I'm over here!" Kyungjae grins. Seonghwa's expression lights up and he waves at him.

"Kyungjae, how have you been?" Seonghwa asks.

"I've been good! Let's head inside," Kyungjae holds the door open for him and Seonghwa steps in. They spot a table near the back and set their things down first. "Hyung, I hear their strawberry tarts here are really good, should I get you one?"

"It's alright, I can-" Seonghwa's hand was on his wallet already but Kyungjae shook his head.

"No way, hyung! I've got this one, I got this great new job and you always spotted me in school, let me get this one!" Kyungjae was off before Seonghwa could argue. Seonghwa sighed instead, watching Kyungjae speak to the worker. He leans back against his chair, letting his mind wander.

You had only mentioned your brother's once to him, and it was after he introduced you to his older brother.

"He's nice! You told me he was scary," you nudged Seonghwa's arm just as his older brother walked off. Seonghwa had told you earlier about how intense his brother could be, a natural response to growing up together, of course, but you'd almost too confidently shook off the fear. You'd told him that he didn't have to worry and, lo and behold, you both hit it off almost too perfectly. "See, I told you that you didn't have to worry. I have brothers too, you know," you laughed.

"You never mentioned it," Seonghwa says. You'd been together for a while now, he was surprised that you'd kept it from him for so long.

"Yeah, well, we're not as close as we used to be, but we still check up on each other. My younger brother's a pro-gamer! That really set my mom off, oh my, that's a hard job, you know? He's in the U.S. right now training or something like that, so I doubt you'll meet him any time soon. Even I can't get him to take a break and come over here," you sighed.

"Gaming? Does he stream?"

"Every now and then, yeah," you nodded. "I haven't had time to check in on those, though, I'm being run to the ground," you sigh. "But, actually, my older brother lives here! Daegu, I think, but uh... he doesn't really go out much. Plus, he's always busy with his job too, he works in Foreign Affairs," you shrugged. "Mostly from home, but yeah. He practically raised me and my younger brother though, I owe him a lot! I'll try to get him out of the house to introduce you one day, promise!"

Needless to say, you never did convince that older brother of yours. But he took your word for it then that he didn't have anything against the relationship. Then, he felt a slight vibration against the table, he flipped his phone over and, well, nothing. He looked over to Kyungjae's instead, seeing an incoming call from a contact titled 'J'. Soon, the vibration stopped, and a simple missed call notification remained. But it wasn't that that caught his attention. It was something that got him to sit up straight. He cleared the notification and, sure enough, he'd recognize you from anywhere.

He knew this picture, it was straight out of the previews for Photograph.

Was he just a fan of NCT? He wouldn't be too surprised, your group had hiked in popularity over the past year, and he knew it was normal to have pictures of your favorite member as your home screen or lock screen, but he was sure that he was justified in feeling a little weird about it. He moved away just as he noticed Kyungjae on his way back with the pastries in hand.

"Sorry that took a while, hyung! They were taking way too long to get our orders out," Kyungjae placed the tart and coffee in front of him before taking his seat. "So, how are things with ATEEZ? Being an idol must be so time-consuming," Kyungjae sighs.

"It is, a little bit, but I find time for the people I love," Seonghwa says. "How about you? You're a stylist now, right?"

"Yeah! I got accepted into my dream company and now I'm working with my favorite group. You know, a lot of my classmates told me to stay away from my favorite group if I wanted to keep them as my faves, but if anything it just made my appreciation for them more," Kyungjae gushes.

"NCT, right?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"I still talk to some people within that group, you know," Seonghwa slides his coffee closer to him. "They told me that there was a new stylist, so I figured it was you," he says. Not really, he just put it together now. All of the pieces had finally been put together, it must have been the man in front of him that you were trying to tell him about before.

But he could hardly believe it, he knew Kyungjae well at some point, and he didn't think that he'd ever do something so uncomfortable to another person, but times really do change people. He felt uncomfortable himself now. There was no doubt in his mind, Kyungjae had to know that he had been in a relationship before, and if he really was your stylist then he was certain that he had some idea that you were talking again. He looked down at his coffee, it was a ridiculous notion but he didn't feel comfortable drinking it anymore. Without another thought, he shot you a text.

'Call me.'

In no time at all, his phone rang.

"Sorry, that's the company," Seonghwa took it before Kyungjae could look at the screen. He holds his phone to his ear, making sure to keep the volume low enough so only he could hear it.

"Hey, is everything alright?" Your voice sounded tired, maybe a little strained. He wanted to ask you that, but he had to keep the charade on. "Sorry, I'm at the gym right now and my arms feel like jelly, but I'm taking a long break so I have time." There you go reading his mind, he didn't think you'd be able to that still.

"Really? Now?" Seonghwa speaks.

"Huh?"

"Just have Hongjoong do it."

"What? Seonghwa, did you mean to have me call you?"

"I really have to go in today, huh? I'll be there in half an hour," Seonghwa continues.

"Here? In the gym? I mean, if you want? I'm with Jeno right now though and I think he's trying to get me to dead lift but forget that! I think my arms are about to fall off!"

"Alright, thank you for letting me know. I'll call later."

"Okay then? Alrighty! Stay safe!" Seonghwa hung up and shook his head.

"Sorry, I'm going to have to head out early, could we raincheck this for later?" He plasters on his idol smile and Kyungjae nods.

"Yeah, that's no problem, hyung! Just let me know."

"Thanks, Kyungjae, I'll talk to you later," Seonghwa slips his jacket on and walks out of the café.

Jersey Shore S1

Episode 1: "A New Family"

Characters introduced: Pauly D (29), Nicole "Snooki" (21), Mike "The Situation" (27), Sam "Sammi Sweetheart" (22), Vinny (21), Jenni "JWoww" (23), Ronnie (23) and Angelina (23).

The first time I watched this season, the original run had already ended but wow. Seeing everyone at the beginning is such a trip, especially knowing how it all plays out over the next like two decades!

They are unbelievably tanned omg.

I still want to spend a summer at a cool shore house tbh BUT with people I know and like. Although, I probably would've enjoyed this set up when I was in my early 20s.

When Danny is describing their duties he said "stocking" but I straight up heard "stalking" 😂 it felt right but kinda weird that he'd just say it out loud.

On first impression, Snooki was and still is the only one that I liked. I think I just felt bad for her and also everyone is just worse in comparison. The best in a bad bunch? Maybe.

So on the first night, everyone agrees Snooki is drama because she gets pretty smashed all on her own. Also because she jump into the hot tub with the guys in her underwear. Jenni is also in the hot tub but everyone is scandalised that Snooki is in there with the guys.

That said, my girl was definitely very sloppy for a first night with a new group. Really big mistake on her part but you live and you learn.

I can sympathise with drinking a lot cause you're anxious in a new situation with new people BUT I suspect this was about Snooki being the center of attention and just falling back on what works.

She does note a lot in the first few episodes that she's used to being the centre of attention and that she likes it that way.

The biggest thing that jumps out to me is how Snooki keeps repeating that she's not used to NOT being the centre of attention. I think that bothers her more than the feeling of being iced out.

The most surprising thing is not that Mike was into Sammie but that she was feeling him back. They even hold hands on the first night out.

Just very very weird.

Also Vinny commenting that she's not the hottest girl and he was expecting hotter - boy bye! He also immediately switched rooms rather than share with Jenni from first sight.

Vinny then says JWoww is a "shady bitch" for not mentioning that she has a boyfriend, which makes me think he was feeling her a little bit.

Over halfway through the episode now and Snooki apologizes to everyone before dinner. It seems to smooth things over with the group. Then Mike and Pauly literally go fishing for girls on the boardwalk- I am appalled that the girls actually came over after being whistled at from a rooftop by strange guys with a camera crew??

Interestingly enough, the boys have zero issues with these strange women jumping into the hot tub in their underwear or nothing at all.

So wtf is up with the double standard? None of them are into Snooki so it's an issue when she does it??

Anyway, JWoww is disgusted that 29 year old Pauly is hooking up with 20 year olds. YES!!

While that's happening, Snooki assumes (from the other room) that everyone is upset about her and decides she's going to leave. It's not clear to me why she thinks that because they're yelling about girls PLURAL so I think she was in her head.

I just noticed they're calling Angelina "Jolie" and like ....PLEASE 😂

I absolutely love everyone's attitude, they each genuinely believe they're god's gift to the Jersey Shore. It's pretty amazing. Mike is the biggest culprit though, it's really delusional.

Also, why do they keep calling her Snickers? Just can't be bothered to call her the right name.
