In a dimly lit room, you sat at a shabby old desk belonging to your predecessor. The room seemed cramped and suffocating, as if the bare walls were getting closer and closer the longer you stayed there in your chair. You stared at the screen of an overloaded old computer, your eyes wide open and your forehead furrowed thoughtfull, the table littered with all the papers from a new case, scattered in a chaotic arrangement while the coffee in the cup next to it has long since become cold, ignored and forgotten.
Your hands clinging to the mouse, sweaty and shaking, the cursor on the screen frantically darting over various tabs and icons as you desperately tried to get anything done amid the pressure, stress and sleepless nights of the last few weeks. Your breathing was heavy and shallow, but your chest was still falling quickly and in an irregular rhythm. The air around you thick and the pressure within it palpable, as if invisible hands were constricting your throat.
"Hey, y/n. Are you okay?" A bright, feminine voice asked, her fitting figure standing in front of your desk. Your eyelids flickered as you lifted your head, the thoughts in your head swirling wildly as you tried to keep control of them and yourself. But the only thing you wanted at that moment was to go back to the blade and relieve yourself, even though you had already been clean for three months and had promised yourself never to fall back into this addiction.
"Y-yeah, everything is fine," you lied in a broken and raspy voice, the desk lamp next to you flickering dimly as the room filled with a muffled, monotone sound that seemed to penetrate through your ears and lodge in your head. "Are you sure? You look pale and you are sweating. Do you have a fever?"
The pressure inside you grew with your colleague's questioning, heavy like an unbearable weight that rested on your shoulders and pulled you further and further to the ground. Every second that the blonde's eyes were on you seemed like an eternity, and the pressure inside, mixed with a deep panic, felt like a bubbling volcano, ready to erupt and consume everything around you. "You know what? I feel sick. I am going to go home and rest."
ᕚ---ᕘ
As soon as you got home, you quickly ran to the bathroom and looked for a brand new disposable razor, which you had disassembled in seconds. The world around you blurred into a diffuse mist of colors and shadows as you sat down on the bed and violently tore your jacket down. Your heartbeat was pounding in your ears and your gaze was blank, fixated on the cold silver between your fingers. Your hands shook as you placed the blade spasmodically against your thin skin, fighting the inner storm to hurt yourself and destroy the promise you gave Amelia.
There was an ominous silence around you, broken only by the dull thumping of your own pulse. Your body was heavy, bound by an invisible chain, your legs rooted to the ground. Your face marked by fear and desperation, but also relief as you pulled the blade through and a thin line of blood appeared on the cut. It helped you release the pressure you were holding inside, pouring out the stress of the days.
It was a moment of liberation that no one understood. Another cut brought you repeated relief and at the feeling of burning and escaping emotions, you closed your eyes as you tilted your head back and took a deep breath. In your trance, you didn't even hear how the front door closed and your girlfriend checked on you in every room. "Y/n? My love, where are you?" Amelia called but you did not hear her, the environment around you seemed unreal and vague.
Amelia had come home after your colleague called her and told her about the incident that had happened at work. She was worried that you really were not feeling well, leaving you go home alone in case something happened to you, so to be on the safe side she had called the emergency contact number listed in your file to make sure you were not alone and someone could look after you when you got home. "Elizabeth called me and said that you-" she stopped perplexed in her tracks, her jaw hanging low as she spotted you, bloody razor just inches away from your wrist.
Close to it, there were cuts, angry red blood dripping down onto your thigh. "Hey, what are you doing there? Put that down, please" she demanded softly, mostly out of fright and shock. You looked down at the ground, refusing to meet her gaze as she dropped her bag on the floor and immediately made her way to the bathroom to grab some bandages. Amelia returned with a small, wet rag, which she gently placed over your wrist and pressed firmly onto it. There was not much bleeding, she did not have to worry about serious injuries, however tears threatened to fall. The brunette was scared- terrified for you.
"Why?" she asked sniffling, not showing the slightest bit of anger in her voice. You looked up nervously, your shiny and relieved eyes meeting her sad hazel brown ones. She ran her fingers delicately through your strands of hair before her hand came to rest on your cheek, her thumb lightly stroking your cheekbone. "You were clean. Why did you do that, darling?"
„I just needed to escape the harsh and bleak reality. Life recently got so rough and I felt like I may burst,“ you began to speak and she pulled you into her chest by the back of your head. Amelia kissed your hair, ran her hand through it and gently rocked you from left to right. Her chin rested on your skull, her eyes closed to calm her racing heart. She was not mad at you, never could be. She herself knew what it was like to fight an addiction; it took her several attempts to be sober for a good three years. "I am sorry, Am."
"It is okay. Please only answer one question," you nodded your head, still hidden in her chest and held by her. "If you could kill yourself right now, would you?" You quickly jumped and tore yourself away from her, your eyes wide at the shocking question. Placing your hands on her thighs, you gently rubbed her knees and looked deep into her eyes. "No, because suicide means that you have given up on yourself. And I am not going to do that. I just had to let the pressure go because I did not see any other option."

The Meeting | Amelia Shepherd x Teen!Reader
Requested by anonymous
Amelia held her coffee in one hand as she used the other to throw her purse on her shoulder. She stepped out of her car and slammed the car door shut. She double clicked the lock button on her key and walked across the parking lot. She neared the door with the paper sign taped onto it, bold black letters written in sharpie "NA MEETING"
Amelia finished her coffee and tossed the cup into the trash. She grabbed the door handle, pulling it open, but she froze when she noticed an unconscious body on the ground in front of the bench pushed up against the wall.
"Hey," Amelia nudged the unconscious body with her foot. "You alive there, buddy?"
"Sadly." The person spoke making Amelia scoot back a little.
"I'm hoping you're here for the meeting." Amelia said as they pushed themselves up and off the ground. She scanned their face finally able to see more than their back. She frowned noticing it was a young girl, no older a teenager. "Wow, you're a baby." Amelia blurted out.
"And you're ancient." The girl snapped back with a look of disgust.
"Ouch." Amelia lightly chuckled. "I'm sorry. I just didn't expect you to be so young."
"Yeah, well." The girl shrugged laying down on the bench.
"Are you here for the NA meeting?" Amelia asked.
The girl looked up at her for a second before letting out a sigh and closing her eye, "I don't know."
"You new to these things?" Amelia asked pushing her legs off the bench to make room for herself.
"I saw the sigh a few days ago. Been trying to find the courage to go in there." The girl explained leaning back. "I almost made it to the room yesterday, but then this old guy saw me before I could go in and he just looked at me like, like I was this sad little beat up puppy."
"You do look like one." Amelia said making the girl glare at her. "I'm kidding." She laughed. "But that's how people are always gonna look at you. You have to ignore it or you'll never make it to a meeting."
"It's annoying." The girl rolled her eyes.
"Well, it's how it is. It's kinda like a punishment for being an addict." Amelia shrugged. The girl sighed and fidgeted with her fingers. "What's your name?"
"y/n." She answered.
"I'm Amelia." Amelia told her. "Would you like to walk in with me?"
"I don't know." y/n shrugged with a frown.
"How old are you?" Amelia asked.
"Sixteen." y/n said.
"You live with your parents?" Amelia questioned.
"Not anymore." y/n said. "They kicked me out almost a year ago."
"I'm sorry." Amelia sighed.
"It's fine. I'm not missing much other than her boyfriends she brings home, and the cold food she'd bring home from her job." y/n shrugged.
"You're a bitter one aren't you?" Amelia chuckled. "How about you come to this meeting with me and then we can go grab some food? My treat." Amelia offered.
"I could use some food, so deal." y/n said standing up and walking to the door. "Can we go somewhere with pancakes? I can never afford them."
"I could go for pancakes." Amelia nodded following her into the building.

Greys anatomy request- so 20x04 got me hooked on there little family banter of Lucas and Amelia and also showed perfect chance for whump of sick because Lucas look so tired sickly( Anyway sorry rambling) can you do one please where Lucas gets sick with flu or something and he tries push himself to go be interesting work but Amelia stops him and takes care of him please (maybe with little push from Scout cuteness and Link who I think would make great like big brother to Lucas that he needs)
The One Where Lucas Adams is Sick
Age Rating: 12+
Chapters: One of One
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy
AN: Here’s another one shot request I hope this satisfies you Shepherd and whump fans out there.
Canon Episode: Grey’s Anatomy in between Season 20 episode 3 and 4
Summary: Lucas Adams is sick with the flu but tries to work until Amelia, Link and Amber tell him to rest.
Words: 2422
Lucas Adams takes a deep breath outside the elevator doors trying to regain his energy. He woke up this morning feeling like he crawled out of a carnival port a potty. His head feels stuffed with cotton, his nose is clogged and even moving his arm feels like he’s lifting a ton. He knew this was the beginning stages of the flu symptoms and he knows this because his chief resident Amber DeLuca gave a big speech about working during flu season including how doctors have an unspoken rule that when the surgeon stays home a patient suffers as well as the doctors who have to cover for them so with all your might you push through.
He decided to do exactly that and push through the illness that came at the worst possible time. His personal and professional life is a mess right now and he has to crash with his aunt Amelia and cousin Scout. It was difficult at first but eventually they found their rhythm. Now he just has to survive intern year after botching it up so bad. He sniffles when the elevator doors open revealing Amber DeLuca and Amelia Shepherd inside talking as they hold their babies. He quickly goes inside standing a respectable distance from Amber who is holding her 1-year-old daughter Lucy who is in a Winnie the Pooh shortall set with her short dark brown hair in pigtails. Amelia is holding his 3-year-old cousin Scout who is sporting a yellow hoodie and jeans.
“Adams.” He grunts back at his chief resident who looks him over, “You look like hell.”
He chuckles lightly at that blunt comment, “Yeah well, I just got back. It’s the flu but don’t worry I’m pushing through it Dr. DeLuca.” He stops and sneezes into his elbow causing Amber to groan in disgust covering her baby away from his direction, “Sorry.”
Amelia looks at him concerned, “Maybe you should go home and rest. I’m sure we can survive without you here there are plenty of interns.”
Amber shakes her head at that, “Over a third of them called in sick this week.” Amelia glares at Amber for encouraging Lucas to stay here, “What? It’s not my fault.”
Lucas clears his throat, “I’ll be fine I’m pushing through it.”
“Well, I put you on the pit today so you should be in your element in the flu warzone.”
Adams groans at that and tries to change it, “Dr. DeLuca if you wouldn’t mind putting me on your service in peds I could really use the hours up there.”
Amber chuckles at that, “If you think I’m gonna let you anywhere around my young and vulnerable patients maybe you should go home because the flu is making you foggy in the head. The pit is where you’re going and if you have a problem with how it interferes with your little checklist you got because you screwed the pooch take it to someone who cares.”
“This is exactly why we call you The Kraken.” Amber glares at Adams comment with her baby in arms that doesn’t diminish her wrath. Amelia purses her lips at this awkward moment and Lucas looks terrified, “I said that out loud, didn’t I?”
“Yep.” Amelia tells him.
“Adams, I know you and your class call me The Kraken because I remind you of the mythical creature that destroys ships and drowns sailors. I take no insults in that because kind words for bosses show weakness in their work structure do I come off as weak to you Adams?”
He clears his throat, “No ma’am your as strong as a diamond.” Amelia narrows her eyes at him confused, “I-It’s the hardest rock in the world and even though it gives off a shiny and pretty appearance it can crush your skull with a hard enough whack to the head. Y-You give off that vibe Dr. DeLuca.”
“…Your safe.” Adams exhales relieved, “But your still in the pit and if you feel any worse do your patients a favor and go home.”
“I agree with her, Scout what about you? Do you agree with the mean chief resident about your cousin?” Scout nods at that in an adorable way causing Amelia and Amber to aww at that while Lucas rolls his eyes before sneezing again. The elevator doors open to their relief and they exit with Adams a little worse for wear as he walks to the lockers with Amelia looking on in worry.
4 Hours Later
After countless sutures and prescriptions for antibiotics Adams leans forward against the station on his elbows to close his eyes for a quick moment. He feels like crawling into one of the empty beds in the pit and sleeping for a week but he knows he can’t do that. He was a teenager when his uncle Derek died but the one piece of advice from him he committed to memory was the unspoken rule that surgeons push through. It’s ironic a rule that is supposed to be unspoken has been spoken all over this hospital.
He stands up straight and walks over to his next patient but fumbles on the way causing Link to catch him before he falls to the ground.
“Whoa Adams are you okay?” Link asks as he helps him up, “Did you catch the flu bug too?”
Lucas groans and answers in a nasally voice, “Unfortunately. I’ll be fine though don’t worry you’re not gonna lose another intern.”
“I’m actually more concerned about you dropping dead when you should be resting.” Adams rolls his eyes at Link who chuckles, “Hey I get it man intern year is a beast and with everything that’s going on in your class I get the need to keep going. At least make it until you feel like vomiting because God knows our patients don’t want to be in the crossfire.”
Yasuda walks up to Link wearing a mask, “Dr. Lincoln I already discharged four of the patients with antibiotics and I popped your sprained ankle in bed 7 is there anything else I can do?”
“Just keep doing what your doing Yasuda coordinate with Adams so we can discharge patients faster and leave the pit open for emergencies.” Yasuda rolls her eyes at that command clearly still peeved at Adams for what happened with Bailey’s patient. She turns around scoffing with Link catching whiff and turns to Adams, “What was that about?”
“I kind of snaked a procedure from her after I left her with a patient so I could fill in my hours.” Link raises an eyebrow at that accusingly causing Adams to be defensive, “The patient was coding I was in the room there wasn’t enough time to explain to Dr. Bailey about Yasuda diagnosing the patient I had to act first or the patient would be dead.”
“And after you saved the patient did you explain to Dr. Bailey about how Yasuda did the grunt work while you were off on your procedure hunt?” Adams is silent for a moment confirming his answer, “That’s what I thought. Lucas, I know I’m not technically your uncle since your aunt and I aren’t together anymore but I feel the need to give you tough love like one. If you want to get back in the O.R. then do it the honest way otherwise you’re never gonna be the surgeon you want to be. Besides the way you’re going you really don’t want to piss off your friends right now.”
Lucas sighs, “Do you think this is why Amber DeLuca hates me?”
“She hates anybody she perceives as a spoiled brat who didn’t work as hard as she did. And you screwing up a lot in the beginning doesn’t help your case.”
Lucas shakes head at his misfortune, “So basically I’m screwed.”
“Your only screwed if you let yourself get screwed. And the way to do that is to keep pushing through and doing your job until you feel like passing out.”
“Okay.” Lucas walks a few feet away from Link until he stumbles a little as his stomach takes an even worse turn. He catches himself on the bed that feels so good against his hands. He crawls up to the bed and lies on his side in a fetal position holding his stomach and groaning in agony. He closes his eyes for a minute until the sweet sensation of slumber takes him. While he is sleeping Link watches from a distance in amusement as well as Amber who sighs.
“He lasted longer than I thought he would.”
Link nods, “Yasuda set up a patient room for him with an iv of LR and 4 milligrams of Zofran.”
Mika snaps her gloves off frustrated, “Do you want me to give him the deluxe treatment package as well?”
Amber glares at Yasuda, “Yasuda.” Mika walks away after that stern tone of voice.
ONE HOUR LATER
Lucas slowly opens his eyes that feel like their glued shut. His sight slowly returns to normal making him see that instead of the pit he’s in a patient room but the view tells him he’s in the bed. He sits up groaning at the muscle aches and feels a small hand touch his shoulder.
“Try not to overexert yourself.” He turns his head to find Amelia by his side. He sighs at his continued misfortune but slumps back into bed, “How are you feeling?”
“Like I got run over by an 18-wheeler.”
“Yeah, the flu will do that to you.” He looks to his right and is surprised to see Amber DeLuca here as well checking on his monitor and IV, “You were dehydrated so Link and I had Yasuda set up an IV for you.”
Lucas tries to sit up, “Great I can get back to the pit while carrying this IV around.”
“Stay!” Amelia’s stern voice startles him but he does what she says, “Now Lucas, you toughed it out for four hours but at some point, you reach your limit. I did when I got sick intern year and I’m sure your chief resident has too.”
Lucas scoffs at that thinking she is just trying to soften the blow, “Yeah? Did you crawl into a bed at the pit and get in a fetal position?”
“I threw up on my mentor’s new shoes that he bragged about and spent that night facedown in the toilet in shame and pain.” Lucas looks surprised by his aunt’s story causing her to grin, “It felt like when I was in withdrawal only more humiliating.”
“That is bad.” He turns to Amber, “What about you? Did you get sick intern year?”
“Karev’s don’t get sick.” Amelia chuckles at Amber’s tough attitude, “It’s a prideful trait of ours, what we lack in sunny dispositions we make up for in strong immune systems. But that doesn’t mean you should work today after you passed out, you hung tough Adams take pride in that while you rehydrate and eat awful chicken soup from a can. Yasuda will be back to check on you later.” The mention of Yasuda brings him back to the subject he and Link talked about. Amber is by the door when his conscience catches up to him.
“Dr. DeLuca?” Amber turns back to Lucas who clears his throat before starting, “Last week before me and Dr. Bailey operated on Dorian Cardenas…it was Yasuda who made the abdominal compartment syndrome diagnosis not me.” Amber looks at him in surprise as well as Amelia, “I was busy trying to get more hours for my procedure logs and Yasuda was by his bedside all day. She was getting a cutdown tray while I was in the room when Dr. Bailey came in and told me to assist her in the ex-lap. I didn’t have time to explain while our patient was coding but I have time now to tell you and make sure she gets credit where credit is due. I’m sorry.”
Amber looks disappointed at first but it diminishes a second later, “When your attending gives you an assignment to monitor a patient you monitor him. Your lucky as hell that Yasuda was there or you would have left him alone for a treasure hunt and you’d be under a mountain of litigations. Again.” Lucas nods taking the scorn with Amelia standing by also disappointed in him, “Now if you weren’t sick, I would give you such a painful ass kicking that your grandkids would feel it. What I can do is tell you to do better. Your already at rock bottom Adams you have nowhere to go but up.” He sighs at that, “Now thank you for telling me and I will be sure to tell Bailey about this. As well as taking back the credit you got from that ex lap and giving it to Yasuda instead.” He groans at that step back, “It was your choice to tell me.”
“I didn’t want to rick Yasuda poisoning my IV.” Amber nods at that, “Plus I can’t afford to have all of my peers hate me.”
“They already hate you.” Lucas chuckles lightly at that, “Nowhere to go but up Adams and I respect a guy who admitted his dumbass mistake and ask for forgiveness than a soulless jackass who sharked a friend.”
Lucas raises an eyebrow at that statement and turns to Amelia, “Did she give me a compliment? It’s really hard to tell with her.”
Amelia shrugs, “I honestly can’t tell with her either.”
“I’m not the warm and fuzzy type, blame it on my brothers.” Amber exits the room leaving Adams stumped on his enigmatic chief resident.
“Was your chief resident that…complex?” Amelia chuckles at that question.
“No but then again I didn’t have a hot woman in charge who could rip my head off with her bare hands.” Amelia looks at the clock and realizes she’s off work, “Do you want me to pick you up some soup from that Chinese restaurant you like so much? It’s better than that canned crap.”
Lucas sighs and wants to tell his aunt he’s not a child but his hunger calls to him and the soup is the best in all of Seattle, “Can you add some fried dumplings too?”
“I was gonna get that for myself but I guess I can share. I’ll be right back.” Amelia covers his upper torso with a blanket and squeezes his shoulder in comfort before leaving him to get him that chicken soup he so clearly wants and needs.

day fifteen: silence | k.b. & a.s.
pairing: amelia shepherd x kai bartley
cw: canon child death, past child loss
word count: 282
Tumblr media
Amelia was not a quiet person, and most certainly wasn’t a silent person, and yet, once a year it would be as though the Amelia Shepherd everyone knows and loves becomes a shell of herself.
During work she was her usual self, positive, upbeat, performing instance medical miracles without batting an eyelid, but the moment she was off shift, when there was no longer the obligation to act okay, she was gone all over again. Having Scout in her life had certainly reduced how severe her inward retreat would be, but no child could save their mother from the grief of losing another in such a cruel way.
When her and Kai get back together, for good this time, no crises induced by children and families as intense as Amelia’s can be, everyone warns them about this, Amelia included. She insists that they don’t need to be with her during this time, that she would understand if they didn’t want to or couldn’t handle the changes in her behaviour and outlook, but Kai refuses to listen to her.
And so when Christopher’s birthday approaches, and Amelia slowly closes herself off in the same way she does every year, Kai clings to her that little longer, that little tighter, just letting her know that they aren’t going anywhere. As the clock strikes midnight, welcoming the best yet worst day of Amelia’s life, Kai rocks the two of them at the edge of Amelia’s King sized bed, Scout sprawled out two-thirds across the mattress despite not even being three years old, sitting uncomfortably in the silence that follows them through the day as Amelia mourns her firstborn’s forty three minutes of existence once more.

Behind The Curtain - Amelia Shepherd/Reader (Grey’s Anatomy)
request: Could you do a oneshot with Amelia Shepard where they both work at the hospital and are secretly dating. One day Arizona or Meredith or somebody catches them making out and then teases them about it the rest of the day. You're writing is fantastic! Thanks for reading this :) - anon
a/n: these are from my old tumblr thefandomwritings from back in 2018 ! re-vamped and re-purposed!! hope u enjoy and forgive the 2018 me style writing
Tumblr media
Keeping your relationship with Amelia secret had been pretty easy for the two of you.
Whilst you were rarely seen venturing further than paediatrics ward, Amelia was similarly tied down to Neuro, being a neurosurgeon, and to whatever various tasks kept her occupied elsewhere in the hospital. Therefore there was never any need to cover anything up about your long-term relationship.
It had begun as a late night fling, early on in your careers at Seattle Grace - you had both finished a shift at the same time and walked into each other as you were buying a coffee.
She smiled sleepily, her eyes bleary as she gripped the coffee cup, “Y/L/N, right?”
You nodded at the correct name, and also in recognition of the woman in front of you, “Amelia.”
“Coffee? At this late hour?” She smirked, a twinkle growing in her eyes.
You couldn’t help but let out a laugh, “I could say the same for you.”
Amelia shrugged and started walking at your side, “I won’t get any sleep any time soon anway, what’s your excuse?” She raised an eyebrow as the two of your left the cafeteria.
“Same.” You shrugged, before turning back to face her and fully reigstering the look in her eyes. You took a slight risk, hoping it was the correct one, “Want to come back to mine? We can talk about how shit life is and commiserate together?”
“I’m less of a talker, more of a do-er.” She caught your expression of a raised eyebrow and shook her head, “Not like that!”
“Hey, we can do whatever you want to do.” You laughed, “I can make us more coffee at home? Stronger coffee.”
“Okay. I’d like that.”
You were fortunate really because whenever you were around one another your love was probably too obvious and your relationship was something that you felt didn't need to be known by everyone yet. So, the longer it could be kept a secret, the better. There would be no complaints of favouritism in surgery and no teasing during late night shifts, it was just straight up easier.
And while normally the distance between your areas of expertise was in your favour, sometimes, on the rare occasion, the paediatrics and brain surgery teams would collaborate. It was at time like these that it was much more difficult to keep your hands off each other.
The day had started with Arizona rushing towards you, a stressed look on her face reserved for only the worst cases. "We have a nine year old girl coming in with serious unspecified head injuries. I've paged Lady Shepherd so she is on her way up, you'll be following the case with me." She rushed out, no time to pause.
"Wait, I... Lady Sheph- Amelia is being given the case?" You asked, your heart hammering slightly once you heard the name.
"She is our in-house neurosurgeon so, yes. She is. Do you have a problem with that Y/L/N?" The woman quirked an eyebrow up at you, giving you one of her looks that you could hardly ever interpret so you just stuttered away.
"N-no, not at all. That's fine, it's great. Good for her." You stumbled through some random words that didn't even really make sense in the situation before you were interrupted by your girlfriend walking through the doors.
There was just something about her in authority and her scrubs that turned you on and that was why you were better off separated. So you found yourself relatively lucky to not be included in the team that went into surgery.
You avoided the viewing platform. But even when you were stuck outside doing paperwork you still found yourself too distracted, your mind wandering off too many times, thinking of what you would do to the woman once you were in the safety of your own apartment.
It was going to be a long day.
You had waited until the surgery was finished until you snuck into a call room. Amelia had been walking past when you attempted to (subtly) pull her into the  room with you. You immediately closed the door and pinned her up against it, making an attempt to lock the door before Amelia flipped the tables and pushed you against the wall. The look in her eyes immediately brought back memories of how your relationship had initially begun.
"What are you smiling about?" She asked, pulling back with a confused look on her face.
Leaning forward, you kissed her nose and hummed slightly, "I love you, is all."
The smile remained on your face as you leant slowly in. Your lips connected and the kiss only became more passionate as the pent up frustration of long, hard days and not seeing each other as much as you needed to built up. You weren't even in there to hook up like you always used to, you just need to be close and be together.(Although, shirts were beginning to be unbuttoned...)
You were vaguely aware of footsteps approaching but you were too caught up with Amelia and had just assumed they had passed. That was until you heard a small gasp coming from the doorway.
Amelia and you pulled away from each other as quickly as you could, your girlfriend stumbling back and almost falling over had it not been for you grabbing her waist and wrapping your arms around her to prevent the fall.
Once she was secure you turned your head back to whoever had interrupted with a smile that was as innocent as you could make it before clearing your throat, "Arizona... Hey."
"Well, I was not expecting this...” A small grin spread across her lips and she let out a gleeful laugh, “Actually, you know what I kind of was. Y/N's been acting strange." Arizona smiled with an evil twinkle in her eye, "I can't believe you guys haven't told me!" You quickly shushed her before pulling her into the call room and closing the door behind her. "I love you guys but at least buy me dinner first..." She joked, earning a light slap on the arm from you.
"What are you doing?" You asked, running your hand through your hair and starting to fidget.
Arizona paused, "I was going to take a nap... in the call room. Because that's what-"
Your girlfriend looked at her watch and shrugged at you, "Look at the time, I've got to go." Amelia, spoke up from the corner, sliding out the door without another word.
You went to walk after her but turned to Arizona who was still standing there with a smile on her face, "You scared my girlfriend away." You pouted.
Arizona just wrapped her arms around you and rocked you side to side, "I'm so proud of you!"
"Shut up."
"But you're both so cute."
"Shut up!" You pushed her slightly, laughing.
"And you've finally found someo-"
You gave her one last look before opening the door, "Okay, I'm leaving now!" You said, walking out.
"Love you." She yelled after your disappearing body.
"Love you too." You yelled back before adding on, "And don't you dare tell anyone!”
--------------------------------
"Y/N," You jokingly rolled your eyes when confronted with Arizona leaning on the nurse desk with a big smile on her face. You prepared yourself for the teasing that was inevitably about to come and pretended to be more interested in the paperwork in front of you. The teasing over the past week had been neverending, "Listen, I know I've been making fun of you and your girlfriend all day and I just wanted to let you know that I support you 100%. I promise that I won't let anyone know of your little secret, okay?" You visibly relaxed and looked back up at her.
You smiled, putting your hand over hers, "You know, you didn't need to tell me that. I trusted you from the beginning but thank you all the same."
She nodded and went to leave before turning back to you, "By the way, I've given your girlfriend a little gift - you may want to go up and say hi. She's in the nursery."
Confused, you frowned slightly but didn't question it as you nodded and made your way to the other side of the ward, where all the newborns are kept.
You stepped in front of the window looking into the nursery and felt your heart skip a beat to see Amelia cradling one of the babies. She caught your eye and her eyes twinkled slightly as she looked down at the baby in her arms. You sighed blissfully and stepped into the room.
"Are you terrorizing the children?" You asked, looking around at the other 3 cribs, each holding a tiny, delicate baby. You stepped closer to Amelia, putting an arm around her lower back and looking down at the baby.
"They're our kids without any home, or parents." Amelia whispered, rocking the baby slightly before shifting the pink blanket to cover her head and little waving hand that had fallen out when she was trying to reach up to your girlfriend. "I kind of thought you were just going to end the sentence at, 'they're our kids' and then you would have a lot of explaining to do."
"Surprise!" She sarcastically cheered before one last rock of the baby. Between the two of you, you managed to safely get her back into her cot and tucked up in her blanket before sneaking out the door.
You both stood in each other's embrace for a while, just soaking in each other's love and company.
"Y'know, maybe it's good that people know about us - especially Arizona." You mumble, longingly staring at the bundles left in the nursery, "if it gets us perks like getting to cuddle cute babies during work then I'm so up for coming out to everyone." You joked.
Amelia just nodded, "Me too." You looked up, slightly surprised as it hadn't really been something you had discussed yet. "Hey, you want to stay at mine and get chinese tonight?"
"Do you have the house to yourself?" You asked with surprise, since these are the only times you get to stay round and even then it is like a military mission. "No, it's a full house tonight. I'm introducing you to them."
"Babe, you realise I know your friends and they know me. We're part of the same friendship group."
"I know, but I get to introduce you as my girlfriend." She grinned and began walking back down the corridor, back to work before yelling over her shoulder, "Plus I get to show them pictures of our children!"

The name of Amelia‘s baby is supposed to have a meaning but I have no idea what it‘ll be so @owenandameliaforever chose one for me. (You remember the misterious voting?😌) It’s my last One shot because Omelia is kind of over for me. It’s for you Leeni. Please enjoy, you all! Love you, guys!
“Why are you awake?”
“I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re beautiful.”
If We Had The Power
I am sitting on the bench, savouring the moment. The sun is reflected on the water and my hand is slightly stroking Milo´s hair.
It´s been two years since I was in Seattle the last time. I remember us deciding to move away, leave Seattle behind us. Acutally it was Link´s idea. But it was a good one. It feels different. Kind of weird. I have a real family now.
Unfortunately without Maggie and Meredith and everyone else who became my family the last couple of years. But I feel like a different person. I have a boyfriend who proposed recently. And I am a freaking mom. I never expected to be so proud about it. My son is literally a copy of myself. And I know Link is little upset about it but secretly I am the happiest person in the world.
Milo is so beautiful and so smart, even though he´s only two years old. He might be a quiet kid but he knows so much that sometimes it´s almost terrifying. So let´s say I am the happiest person in the world. Or at least I am supposed to be but sometimes I miss my old life, my old me… So I decided to visit my old home.
I´m currenly waiting for Maggie to pick me up. But I wanted to come without Link, because he´s not a part of my old life. He´s my future and I´m glad about it but right now I just want to spend time with my sister, my nieces and my nephew.
And also I am kind of excited to see Owen. I haven’t talked to him since I´ve left. I don´t even know if he married Teddy. I´m insecure about our reunion because I feel awful but I have that urge to see him. I want to make sure he is doing okay.
Lost in my thoughts I don´t even recognize Maggie, who´s walking straight towards me, waving and shouting. “Huh?” I look up, totally confused when something is touching my shoulder. But when I realzie who´s standing there right in front of me, a big smile forms on my lips immediatly.
“Oh my god!”, I squeal and embrace her in a big, tight hug. Maggie kisses my cheek then bends over to my little boy who is patiently sitting on the bench, starring at us with his big blue eyes.
“Look at you!” Maggie rubs his hair and I can´t help but smile while watching her talking to my baby.
I think Milo is not sure what to think about this situation because he definitely doesn´t remember her but he understands very fast that I´m unbelievable happy to see this person, because he’s the smartest toddler I´ve ever see, so he starts smiling after a while and Maggie freaks out even more.
“He´s so beautiful.” Maggie turns around to me after she tickled my son for a few minutes.
“I know.” I grin at my sister and she takes my hand.
“I missed you so much”, she sniffles and I feel tears forming in my eyes. I take a deep breath because this is not the right moment for collapsing into tears. I really don´t want to confuse Milo even more. Everything must aleady be so overwhelming for him.
I pick him up and together we walk to Maggie´s car.
I sigh deeply when I lay down on my old bed. Milo is already fast asleep in that old crib we brought up from the basement. I´m completely exhausted but I can´t stop smiling.
We spent the whole afternoon together in the park, Maggie, Meredith, Zola, Bailey, Ellis, Milo and me, eating ice cream, playing hide and seek, talking and laughing. I can´t remember the last time I laughed that much in one day. God, I missed those guys.
Tomorrow I will go to the hospital, togther with my sisters. I feel my heart pounding very fast, almost painful. I´m so excited. I know there´s to reason to be scared just because I will meet Owen, but I am. I am scared. I know he will be happy for me but I am scared he isn´t. I don´t know if I should tell him about my engagement. But he will recognize the ring anyway. I feel my eyelids getting heavier and after a few minutes I am also fast asleep.
I open my eyes, blended by the sunlight that is shining through the curtains. My gaze wanders through the room and I almost have a heart attack when I see the empty crib next to my bed.
After a moment of shock I decide that Maggie probably brought him downstairs so I could sleep a little longer. That´s what she does, because she is the most caring person I know.
I crack the door a little bit open and peek downstairs. I hear a lot of people, a lot more than I am supposed to hear but I can´t assign the voices. It´s to far away.
So I sneak downstairs always watching out that no one´s gonna see or hear me.
I look into the living room and froze for a moment. Milo and the other kids are playing in front oft he TV and Maggie and Mer are sitting on the sofa talking with Owen, Richard and Cormac Hayes.
I absolutely don´t feel ready to join them, though. I must look like crap.
„Ahh, you´re finally awake, sleepy head. It´s almost 11.“ My eyes snap open. I didn´t even realize I closed them. Apparently I´m still a little tired.
Everyone´s looking at me now. ‘Great.’ My eyes go straight to Owen but I regret it immediatly because he smirks at me and I feel myself blushing.
“Nice to see you”, Hayes finally breaks the super embarassing silence. “How are you doing?” The peds surgeon has such a kind smile.
“I´m go- good”, I hear myself stuttering. ‘Damn it, Amelia! Stay focused. You know these guys.’ I take a deep breath.
“How are you guys doing?” I walk over to the fridge to look for some food.
“We´re good”, the redhead answers first. “Buuuut, what are you looking for? Breakfast´s in the kitchen. Maggie spent the whole morning making pancakes, right?”
Maggie just nods, smiling and when I turn around I look right into Owen´s smirking face, again. This is not getting better.
“Right, thanks.” I just grab a cup of coffee and disappear in the kitchen. ‘This is so embarrassing.”
I just sit there, stirring my coffee. I don´t recognize Owen entering the room.
“You okay?”
“Ha!” I startle up and drop the spoon.
“Got it.” Owen grabs it and picks it up from the floor.
“Thank you.” ‘What is wrong with me?’
“So?” the trauma surgeon looks at me, questioning.
“What..?” I´m confused.
‘Gosh, I love his smile.’ It´s always so heartwarming. I feel myself becoming calmer. It´s just Owen. There’s no reason to be excited. I should be happy to see him and finally ask him how he´s doing.
“Um… yes, I guess…?”
“You guess?” He lifts an eyebrow.
“I am sorry.” I finally look up.. “I’m still a little exhausted from the long flight. But how are you doing?” I bite my lower lip.
The trauma surgeon clears his throat and sits on the chair in front of me.. “I´m actually pretty fine.” He stops for a minute. And just now I recognize how tired he looks like.
“I married Teddy.”
I feel a slight rush of disappointment run through my body.
“You know, it´s not perfect but it´s a family. We have Allison and Leo. Well, Leo and Teddy aren´t best friends but we´re all doing okay.” He rubs his face.
“I´m happy to see you again. When is your wedding?” His eyes have moved to my hand with the ring on it.
Suddenly I don´t feel so proud it anymore. “We haven´t decided yet”, I say quietly, definitely wanting to change the subject.
“I´m happy to see you, too”, I say a little insecure and smile a bit.
“Can I hug you?”, he asks all at once.
“Sure”, I answer without thinking about it. He walks around the table and I get up so he can plung his arms around my neck.
We´re standing there, silently hugging each other and it feels so good, so relieving. He doesn´t hate me. He is happy to see me and I don´t want this hug to end.
“Your son is gorgeous. He looks like his mommy”, he whispers and smile while tears run down my cheeks. I can´t hold back any longer. I missed him so much.
When Owen hears my sobs he holds me even closer. “It´s okay”, he tries to calm me down. “I missed you too.”
I lie down on the old, fragile bed in the on-call room. It´s so uncomfortable but I needed to come down here once more. And Maggie is happy to spend some more time with Milo. We just had little party at the hospital and I´m still so overwhelmed. I missed those guys, gosh.
All of sudden someone knocks at the door.
“Come in”, I croak.
“Why are you still awake? It´s already past 12”, I hear Owen asking and blink in his direction.
“Then why are you awake?” I tease him.
“I wanted to make sure you´re fine and let you know that I think you´re beautiful tonight.” He smirks.
I don´t say anything, I just savour his kind eyes, his kind smile. And suddenly I feel some sadness spreading around in my body. I´ll be back at home in two days and I have no idea when I will see Owen again. Will I ever?
Owen seems to recognize it and sits down on the bed, next to me. I make space for him without having any control over what I´m doing right now. He lies next do me and there´s nothing but the sound of our slow breathing.
I want to kiss him, but I can´t. I look at him and he stares at my lips. I close my eyes and suddenly there´s this feeling I haven´t felt in years.
The kiss is slow and passionate. Tears come out of my eyes.
After a moment, that felt like eternity, we stop. “Owen…”, I whisper, too afraid to open my eyes.
“Look at me.” I feel his hand caressing my cheek. I look into his eyes and immediatly feel the urge to cry again.
“I´m sorry…”, I say.
“No”, he interrupts me. “It´s not our fault.” Now I see tears in his eyes.
“We´re not the author of this book. We´re just in it. We don´t have the power. But maybe in another universe we will…”
“…end up together”, I finish the sentence.
“We´re gonna be happy”, he says, almost whispering.
“You will always be the one.” He smiles at me with tears in his eyes. There is a big lump in my throat. “But we just don´t have the power.”

I would love some Amelia x reader as a supplement :)
Of course, who doesn't love Amelia? I have some Amelia x reader in my drafts, but it'll be a while since I don't know if one is a series or a oneshot yet, since I have Doctor Y/n complete up to season 17 and queued, and Baby Shepherd has part 5 queued and that's a 7 part series... one is called Plastics Fellow and will be Amelia x reader, then I have a request for one I've dubbed, The Third DeLuca which is also Amelia x reader...

do you write for greys? if so, could you do something with Amelia Shepherd and teen reader? Whether it's her daughter or a patient, i don't mind. and could the story be suuuper cute and fluffy? or whatever you feel up to writing is fine. Thx! 🥰

Summary: Amelia Shepherd meets a talented young medical student who wants to learn from her. A close relationship develops between the two of you, with Amelia not only sharing her medical expertise, but also acting as a mentor and friend while you help Amelia regain confidence in herself after botching a surgery that she actually knows by heart.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Amelia Shepherd hurried through the busy hallways of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, her gown flapping behind her as she was summoned to a consultation. Her mind was whirling as she prepared to tend to a new patient when suddenly a gentle voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Excuse me, Dr. Shepherd? Would you have a moment for me?" you asked and Amelia turned around, a young woman with a backpack over her shoulder and a stack of books under her arm catching her eye. Your eyes sparkled at her, and the neurosurgeon could immediately see the glint of curiosity in them.
"Of course," Amelia spoke and smiled. She tilted her head to the side and slipped her hands into her coat pockets before continuing. "How can I help you? Are you hurt?"
You stepped closer and held out your hand. "No. My name is y/n y/l/n. I am a medical student interning and I heard that you are one of the best surgeons here. I would really like to learn from you."
Amelia's smile deepened as she saw the determination in your expression. "It's nice to meet you, y/n. And of course I'm happy to help you. What exactly do you want to learn?" she asked and you beamed with joy, keeping pace with her as she continued walking, signaling you with a hand signal to follow her. "Anything you can teach me! I admire your work and want to learn as much as I can from you."
The brunette felt a wave of warmth in her heart. It had been a long time since someone had so enthusiastically asked to be her mentor. Far too long. "Well then let's get started." she said, leading you through the corridors of the hospital to the consultation she was needed for.
In the following days, Amelia and you spent a lot of time together. She showed you the different departments of the hospital, explained complex medical cases and even let you watch some operations. As you worked together, you began to get to know each other better, and Amelia became more and more impressed by your intelligence, ambition, quick wit, and kindness.
One day, while you were taking a break together in the cafeteria, you turned to Amelia with a shy smile. "Could I perhaps ask you for a favor, Dr. Shepherd?"
Amelia nodded and placed a hand on your shoulder while fishing for her fork with the other hand. "Of course, y/n. What's wrong?"
You hesitated for a moment before continuing nervously. "Well, I recently heard about a scholarship available for promising young doctors like myself, but the application process is quite demanding. I was wondering if you could perhaps write me a recommendation?"
Amelia smiled softly and nodded. "Of course I will, y/n. I'm sure you're an excellent candidate. I'm happy to support you and hope to see you here permanently as a medical student." She answered and you beamed with gratitude and relief, barely able to contain your joy. "Thank you, Dr. Shepherd. You have no idea how much this means to me."
"From now on it's Amelia, not Dr. Shepherd." She interrupted and as she continued to smile at you, she couldn't help but feel warm and fulfilled. In you she saw not only a talented young medical student, but also a friend and a possible successor. And she looked forward to supporting you on your journey, just as so many others had supported her when she was an aspiring doctor herself.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The news of your successful acceptance into the prestigious Grey Sloan scholarship spread like wildfire through the hospital, and Amelia couldn't help but beam with pride as she prepared to teach you everything she knew.
When you came to see her in person the next day, Amelia could hardly contain her excitement. “Congratulations, y/n!” she shouted, walking the last few centimeters towards you to pull you into a strong hug.
You grinned widely with joy and returned the hug as you laid your head on her chest and she planted a kiss on the top of your head. "Thank you, Amelia! I couldn't be happier!"
Amelia stepped back and regarded you with a beaming gaze as she wrapped an arm around your shoulder, leading you with her. "You deserve it, y/n. I knew from the beginning that you would make it."
The two of you walked up to a meeting room before you started talking about the future and how you would work together. You were excited to finally have the opportunity to develop the full extent of your knowledge and skills, and the neurosurgeon promised to support you every step of the way.
In the weeks and months that followed, an even closer friendship developed between the two of you. You continued to spend a lot of time together, both in and out of the hospital, sharing your thoughts, fears, and dreams.
Amelia was impressed by your eagerness and insatiable desire to learn and grow. She recognized that you were not only a talented aspiring doctor, but also a remarkable young woman with a strong moral compass and a warm heart.
As a mentor and friend, she stood by you when you needed support, be it with difficult medical cases that she assigned to you or with personal challenges. She encouraged you to do your best and never give up, no matter how big the obstacles might be.
And while Amelia helped you grow professionally and personally, she also found comfort and inspiration in your close friendship and enthusiasm. Together you went through ups and downs, but through your mutual support and affection, you grew stronger and closer together.
For Amelia, you were not just a student or a colleague, but an important companion on her own path, and she was grateful for the chance to have you on her path. Because in you she not only found a mental heir, but also a friend for life. She was able to lean on you especially in the difficult times, like during the time of her brother's death.
She had thrown herself back into work immediately after the funeral without taking a few days off, and now she was standing in front of the mirror in the relaxation room at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, staring at hersel. Her eyes shone uncertainty and self-doubt as she reflected on the events of the last few weeks.
An operation gone wrong. A patient who had suffered. And above all, the agonizing realization that she, an experienced surgeon, had made a mistake. A mistake that could have been avoided. A mistake that haunted her and shook her confidence in her own abilities.
Since her brother's tragic death, Amelia had struggled with grief. She had thrown herself into work to distract herself and numb the pain, but somewhere deep inside her doubt continued to gnaw at her. You had been a constant source of support and comfort during this dark time. As her young student and friend, you had not only supported Amelia with medical matters, but also served as an emotional support, encouraging her and reminding her that she was not alone.
There was a knock on the door that took her out of her thoughts and you walked in, a worried look on your face. "Amelia, how are you?" You asked softly, stepping closer. The brunette sighed and turned to you, her eyes dark with pain. "I'm sorry, y/n. I failed. I should have been more careful, I should have been better."
You moved closer to her and put a hand on her shoulder from behind, giving it a tight squeeze. "Am, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You're only human." You spoke but she shook her head at your statement, unable to overcome the self-blame that tormented her. "But I should have known, y/n. I should have known better."
You looked at Amelia seriously and then lowered your voice to a very soft, quiet whisper. "Amelia, I know you are going through a difficult time. But I want you to remember who you are. You are an incredibly talented and passionate neurosurgeon. You have helped so many people and saved so many lives. Mistakes don't define your entire career."
Your words slowly penetrated Amelia's veil of self-doubt. She raised her eyes to meet yours, but you nudged her to look back in the mirror. When she had done this, you spread her legs with a light kick of your foot and placed one arm after the other on her hips. "Say it, Amelia."
"I am a superhero, let me fly." She whispered and you made the gesture with your hand that warned her to repeat the sentence. You had her repeat it several times until she realized which reflection she was looking into. "Just one strong and combative personality can make mistakes and still shine as much as you do in your Superman pose."
"Thank you, y/n. It means a lot to me." She spoke much stronger and you smiled softly. "We all need a reminder of who we really are sometimes. You are not alone, and I am here to help you remember."
Amelia threw her arms around you before getting back to work with you. Slowly but surely, Amelia began to regain her confidence in herself. With your support and your regular forcing to pose as Superman whenever she had self-doubts again, she overcame them and returned to her true passion: healing and helping people.
Amelia's journey has not been easy, and there have been many challenges and setbacks along the way. But with your continued support, she found herself back, strengthened by your friendship and unwavering confidence in her.

My Son the Unicorn: A Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice Fanfic Part 2
Tumblr media
Notes: This is a fanfiction based on characters from the TV shows, Grey’s Anatomy, and Private Practice. This rewrites parts of the latter half of Private Practice season five when Amelia’s pregnant and Addison has baby Henry. This fanfiction tells a different story where Derek comes to LA for Addison’s help with a patient and discovers Amelia’s pregnancy. This is the second part of a two-part story, so this will feature how it ends. If you haven’t read part one, please do because you’ll need the context to understand this story. It will all eventually go up on Archive of Our Own as a oneshot after it’s posted here. But it’s edited to include headings and images to improve readability. Thank you to @tivashepherd on Twitter for requesting this prompt and for naming this fanfiction as well.
My Son the Unicorn: Part 2
Tumblr media
Later that day, Addison caught Derek finishing up on some patient notes at the nurse’s station.
“So, I guess this means you’re leaving now,” Addison said as she peered over at his notes. He still had the same scrawly handwriting he always had.
“Yeah,” Derek sighed. He wasn’t ready to leave yet. He couldn’t bear the idea of Amelia going through this tragedy alone. He knew she wasn’t really alone. Over the past three weeks that he’d been in LA, he could tell that she had people here. That all the doctors at the practice cared about each other, and that included Amelia. Unfortunately, Amelia didn’t seem to be letting anyone in. Well, other than Jake.
He saw how the other doctors would try to get her to open up, even if it was just to talk about their patients. But she’d just shut them out. Or when anyone tried to talk to her about the baby, namely Addison, Sheldon, or Derek, Amelia would snap back at them. He didn’t blame her for being angry. For being devastated and for needing someone to blame, even if it was unfair to Addison. But if that’s what she needed to cope right now, then fine. They weren’t happy being shut out, but they also knew she had to deal with this her own way. Even if it meant getting pushed out.
“You’re not ready to go yet, are you?” Addison sensed the frustration in his voice. She knew it’d been a tough couple of weeks. He missed Meredith and most of all, Zola, back in Seattle. He’d FaceTime them twice a day whenever he got the chance. But she also know he wanted to be here for Amelia.
Derek Reminisces
Tumblr media
After Amelia crashed his car, he cut her off. Addison tried to sympathize with Amelia, became the person she could count on when the rest of her family couldn’t help but just be angry with her. But she knew that her family, especially Derek, felt guilty about practically cutting her out. Amelia’s sisters and her mother were still there for her in a large way after the accident. But Derek cleanly cut ties afterward. He couldn’t fathom how his teenage little sister could be so reckless.
Even though Addison had never experimented with drugs (other than the one time she tried pot with Archer and immediately regretted it), she could empathize with Amelia and her coping mechanism. It was a miracle Addison turned out to be so sane with everything messed up about her own family. It was part of why she fell in love with Derek and his family in the first place. They were so simple, so loving, and most of all, so drastically different from her own family. When she met the Shepherd’s, she fell more in love with Derek because being married to him meant that she’d get the family he grew up with.
When they got divorced, losing his family was the hard part. Granted, her now ex-husband being in love with an intern and pretending to love her for months didn’t feel all that great either. But when Nancy showed up in Seattle, it sunk in how much she’d really lost. And then when Amelia showed up in LA, she was thrilled. She wasn’t super happy about the fact that Derek still wasn’t speaking to her, but she loved that Amelia was excited to see her. Even more so when Amelia decided to stay in LA.
Derek Talks to Meredith
Tumblr media
“No, I’m not,” Derek said, sadly. Addison always did know how to read his mind.
“So, what are you gonna do?” Addison asked.
“I don’t know,” Derek sighed. “But I know I can’t leave yet,”
Later that evening, Addison fed Henry as Derek got on a video call with Meredith and Zola, as he had every night prior.
“Daddy!” Zola exclaimed upon seeing Derek on the screen. Addison looked over and smiled hearing her. She’d never met Zola but had seen plenty of pictures. Plus, she caught glimpses whenever Derek video called them.
“Hi, baby!” Derek said back, his smile widening.
“So, how’s Courtney and the baby?” Meredith got straight to the point as she always did. Derek kept her updated on his patient’s progress for the past few weeks and she knew the baby’s surgery was today.
“Good,” Derek said, plainly. “Addie did great and the baby’s recovering. They’ll probably get to go home in a few days,”
“So, you’ll be back in a few days then,” Meredith said as she struggled to keep Zola still in her arms.
“Actually, I think I’m gonna stay in LA for a little longer,” Derek said, hesitantly. He knew Meredith wouldn’t be happy that he wasn’t coming home yet. Even more so that he was still staying with his ex-wife.
“Why? You just said that everything was fine,” Meredith said, slightly confused.
“I know but I can’t leave yet,” Derek said. “I have to be here for Amy,”
“I thought you said she wasn’t speaking to you,’ Meredith said back, slightly irritated.
“She isn’t,” Derek said. “But I can’t let her do this alone,”

Hey guys, this is a continuation of ‘Elevator Hug parts 1 and 2, but this can also be read separately as a oneshot. Enjoy! ;)
This is based on on the promo and synopsis of 13x23, about Owen receiving some life changing news and Amelia being there to support him. This is also based on a prompt I received, with some modifications made.
Prompt : You're an amazing writer! Do you think you'd be interested in writing a fanfic based off the synopsis for ep 13x23 where "Amelia supports Owen." She hears from another doctor that some bodies were found(including Megan's) and has a bad feeling & runs thru the hospital and eventually finds Owen in an on call room and she holds and talks to him?
P.s  I know in the show and based on the promo Amelia hasn’t returned back home and Owen would go to Meredith’s to probably meet her. But for the sake of my ‘Elevator Hug’ series- Amelia is already back home in this fic. However the main point remains- it’s Amelia’s time to support Owen :)
P.p.s  In this fic, Amelia finds Owen at home, not in an on call room
p.p.p.s  New note: I know on the show Megan didn’t die. This was written before we found out that Megan was still alive :p
It had been a very busy day so far for Owen Hunt. There was an influx of patients in the ER due to a huge pile up involving a bus, a van and several cars. He and April Kepner had been kept occupied.
It didn’t dampen his spirits though. It had been 2 weeks since his wife, Amelia Shepherd had returned home, and almost 2 weeks since he had the first glimpse of their baby. All was well in the world again.
He was humming to himself, discharging a patient who was under observation for a syncopal attack when he heard his name being called.
‘ Hunt.’ April approached him. ‘ I’m attending to the patient in bed 6 who has upper GI bleed. Can you attend to the patient in bed 3 who was just brought in? The paramedics said that she was in a car accident and suffered head trauma.’
‘ Ok,’ Owen answered. ‘ I’m just about done discharging this patient.’
As he walked towards bed 3- he stopped in his tracks. It couldn’t be her. He knew his mind was playing tricks on him, but from a far this patient looked rather similar to him. The red wavy hair, the slim body.
As he approached the patient, his heart sank. So much for getting his hopes up. Of course it wasn’t Megan. It was just another patient who looked like her. Today he had been thinking about Megan a lot.
‘ Hello. I’m Dr. Hunt. May I know your name?’ he asked the patient, who seemed fine at a glance, except for the laceration wound on her forehead.
‘ Michelle.’ she answered. ‘ My head hurts.’
‘ I was driving when another car switched lanes right in front of us without signalling . I couldn’t manage to brake and we collided with the car. I’m fine, but she hit her head.’  a red haired man sitting next to her explained. ‘ I’m Michael, by the way. I’m her brother. We were on the way to our parents’ place for dinner.’
‘ Do your parents know that you’re here?’ Owen asked.
‘ Yes, they’re coming over in a short while.’ Michael answered.
‘ Alright, Michelle, can you look right at me? I need to check your pupils .’ said Owen as she obeyed.
‘ Do you have any dizziness, vomitting or blurring of vision?’ Owen asked once he ascertained that her pupils were equal and reactive.
‘ No.’ Michelle shook her head.
‘ She’ll be ok right?’ Michael asked, concerned. ‘ She’s my only sister- I don’t want anything to happen to her.’
She’s my only sister. I don’t want anything to happen to her.
Owen found his mind drifting again to his only sister, Megan.
He shook the thought of Megan off his mind as he answered, ‘ Yes, she seems fine at the moment. But I want to page Neuro to do a full examination on you just to be sure. And I’m gonna stitch this wound on your forehead ok?’
He began working on Michelle’s wound as he ordered a nurse to page Amelia.
 _____________________________________________________________
‘ You ok?’ Amelia asked as she approached Owen at the nurses’ station half an hour later. She had done a thorough examination on Michelle and reviewed Michelle’s Brain CT which turned out normal. Being cleared by Neuro, Michelle would be discharged after another 6 hours of observation in the ER.
Owen had a distant look on his face, and she knew that something was preoccupying his mind.
‘ Huh? Yeah I’m fine.’ Owen answered distractedly.
‘ Owen….’
‘ I said I’m fine!’ he repeated, louder than he intended to.
However Amelia didn’t flinch this time. No- Owen had always supported her all this while,   she wanted to be the one to offer him support this time.
‘ You can always talk to me you know.’ Amelia said softly as she rubbed his arm soothingly. ‘ You have always supported me, and now I’m here to support you as well.’
Owen nodded as he looked at Amelia. He appreciated her support, he really did. But this wasn’t the time to be talking to her about it.
‘ Thank you, Amelia, I really appreciate it.’ he said earnestly. ‘ But I’m rather busy now. I’ll talk to you about it later ok?’
‘ Ok.’ she nodded. ‘ Just know that you can tell me anything.’ she offered, as she patted his shoulder before she left.
________________________________________________________________
It was quiet in the house as Owen sat on the couch of their living room that night. He could hear the sound of crickets and the occasional car driving by.  Amelia was on call- so he sat alone on the couch, just like he always did during the 3 months before her return.
He was exhausted after an entire day of attending to motor vehicle accident victims. Now all he wanted was to sit back and relax with a drink.
He poured himself a glass of Scotch as he leaned back on the couch. He savored the feel of the drink going down his throat.
The truth be told, he had been drinking every night since Amelia left with a simple note. Without Amelia around , there was no reason for him to stop drinking. If before, he always tried not to drink in front of her, now he binge drank. He drank to drown all the sorrows he felt deep down inside. He drank to fill the hole in his heart and the loneliness and emptiness he felt. He missed her laughter, her dimpled smile, the vanilla scent of her hair. He even missed their petty squabbles over the remote and the dishes.
Now that Amelia was back home, he had another reason to drown his sorrows with a drink today.
Although he didn’t want to admit it, he really missed his sister Megan.
Today was supposed to be Megan’s 35th birthday had she still been around. He stood up from the couch and walked over to the collection of old photo albums he and Amelia kept in one of the drawers below the TV.
He took out one of the photo albums and sat back down on the couch, flipping through the album. It contained photos of him and Megan from birth to adulthood. There were many photos of them both as babies, then as children, and subsequently as teenagers and young adults. He stared at a photo of him and Megan building sandcastles together at the beach. Their parents would make it a point to bring them to the beach every summer for vacation, and it was something they looked forward to the entire year. Then there were photos of him and Megan smiling widely during her 2nd birthday party, cakes smeared all over their faces. Another page of the album contained photos of them during their teenage years- him dressed smartly in a suit, going to prom with a girl whose name he had forgotten, and her looking so beautiful in a red dress during her prom day, being escorted by a boy who Owen disliked. Owen had always shown an interest in Megan’s love life, much to her dismay. But the actual fact was, and they both knew it- he had her best interest in mind and just wanted to protect his little sister from getting hurt. As he turned to the last page of the album, a photo caught his eye. It was the last photo they had taken together, right before they were both posted to Iraq. They were both wearing similar army uniforms and smiling widely at the camera. Both Hunt siblings shared a similar passion for serving in the army.
He let his mind drift off again to Megan. He missed her so much. He missed her cheeky smile, her cheerful laughter, he missed the way she loved to tease and provoke him to make him mad. But he could never stay mad at her for long. He missed their happy childhood memories, cycling to the park and chasing around the neighbourhood with the neighbours’ kids. He missed her interrogating him on every girl he brought home during his teenage years. Later as she grew older, he would do the same to her, scaring away every boy she brought home. He missed her provoking him by calling him sausage fingers while he operated on a patient in the battlefield.
He could recall the last conversation he had with her. She had been upset about Riggs cheating on her, but still managed to squeeze in a word of wisdom for him.
‘ Owen, I hope you find someone who would be your soulmate and companion for life. I hope you can build a happy family and future with her. Because you deserve it.’ she had said as she hugged him tight before getting on the helicopter.
‘ Oh Megan - if only you got to meet Amelia.’ he thought to himself. He was sure they would both get along great.
He took another sip of his Scotch as he wondered where she was now. Was she in hiding somewhere? Was she kidnapped and being held captive by the enemies all these years? If so, were they torturing her? Or…was she….he couldn’t bring himself to think of the word ‘dead.’
But if she was dead, wouldn’t they have found her body? He didn’t know. No one knew.
There was a knock at his front door.
Owen frowned, puzzled. Who could be visiting him and Amelia at this hour? Was it Meredith, Maggie or one of their colleagues?
He opened the door to come face to face with a buff man dressed in an army uniform.
‘ Hello, is this Dr. Owen Hunt?’ he asked.
‘ Yes, it’s me.’ Owen answered, feeling a sense of trepidation. Surely this isn’t good news, he could feel it.
‘ I’m Major William Allen.’ the man introduced himself in a booming voice as he stiffly shook hands with Owen.
‘ Are you the elder brother of Dr. Megan Hunt?’ he asked.
‘ Yes.’ Owen answered in a small voice as he could feel his heart sinking. He had a very bad feeling about this- and he didn’t want to hear what was coming next.
‘ I’m so sorry to inform you that we have found your sister’s body today. The helicopter she was on was shot down in Iraq several years ago, but due to it being hostile territory, we could only manage to recover it now.’
At the Major’s words- Owen’s entire world collapsed. Even though he had tried to prepare himself for this possibility, now that her death was confirmed, he wasn’t prepared for this moment. He had always clung on to the small possibility that she might be still alive and might return to him someday. And now- that hope was crushed just like that.
Owen remained silent as he stood there in a daze, a shocked and devastated expression on his face. He could barely register the Major’s subsequent words.
‘ Her body was badly decomposed and beyond identification- we had to perform DNA testing.’ Major William added. ‘ We guess the body had been there for a long time- probably many years. It was found near the helicopter wreckage, which leads us to believe that she might have died from the crash itself - if that’s any consolation.’
‘ If that’s any consolation.’
He wondered how could anything give him consolation upon receiving this devastating news about the confirmation of his sister’s death. Maybe, the Major meant well. He understood, it would have been better for Megan to die from the crash itself than to die from being kept a Prisoner of War after all these years. He could never bring himself to imagine Megan having to go through all the torture had she still been alive. But still, the Major’s words pierced through his heart like a double edged sword. His little sister, his only sister was gone. She was never coming back. He would never see her smile, hear her laughter or be provoked by her anymore.
‘ We’ll help you to make her funeral arrangements.’ the Major added in a serious tone.
Owen thanked the Major solemnly as he shook hands with him and closed the door behind him.

As soon as the front door was closed and locked, Owen sat on the couch with his head in his hands, silently mourning for his sister.
He wondered how the last minutes of her life were, and whether she died a slow, painless death. Did she think of him? Or of Riggs?
He lifted his head up from his hands and stared at the photo album full of photos and him and Megan, still placed on the couch. Now all that’s left of her were just memories.
He knew that the first stage of grief was denial. Which was exactly what he felt at the moment. Maybe, just maybe he was dreaming and it was all just a nightmare. Maybe if he pinched himself, he would wake up from this nightmare, and Megan would appear to him alive and well the next day. Maybe he was just hallucinating, the Major was just a visual hallucination and the Major’s words were just an auditory hallucination.
He progressed on quickly to the next stage of grief - anger. As if on reflex- his wrist slammed against the coffee table, knocking down his half empty glass of Scotch. Scotch spilled on the coffee table, but he didn’t care. He was angry at the universe, angry at the God above for taking away his beloved sister from him. He was angry he didn’t get a chance to say a final goodbye to her, angry at himself for letting her go on the helicopter in the first place. If only he had stopped her from getting on the helicopter- she would still be alive.
He threw the photo album across the living room and plunked back down on the couch, burying his head in his hands again, wrecked in silent sobs.
________________________________________________________________
He didn’t know how long he sat in that position. It might have been just minutes, or hours. Time seemed to stand still for him.
He jumped as he felt a warm comforting hand on his shoulder.
He looked up to see Amelia looking sympathetically at him.
‘ I heard.’ she whispered, as she rubbed his arm soothingly. ‘ I rushed back right after April told me. ‘I’m so sorry, Owen.’ she added in a soft voice.
She had just finished reviewing a patient in the ER when she overhead April and a few residents talking about an army helicopter wreckage being discovered after so many years and several bodies being found. As she approached the group to learn more details, one name stood out for her, Megan Hunt. Upon hearing the name, she immediately rushed back home, asking April to page her if there were any incoming patients that needed Neuro consults. She knew that Owen needed her at that moment.
Owen looked up at her as their eyes met. His eyes were forlorn and filled with sadness, while hers were filled with sympathy and love.
He shook his head wordlessly, at loss of words to say to her. How could he tell her how receiving the news of a sibling’s death felt like?
She pulled his body closer to her chest and hugged him tight as he finally broke down in her arms. The warmth of her touch and the feel of her heart beating broke down his defenses. He sobbed and sobbed, mourning for his sister. She rubbed his back soothingly in circular motions, knowing that the gesture would calm him down. She knew because he always performed the same gesture on her to calm her down, and now it was time for her to reciprocate.
‘ It’s ok Owen.’ she whispered as she continued rubbing his back in soothing circles. ‘ Just cry, let it all out. I know you miss her. I’m here for you.’
Amelia’s comforting voice only made him sob harder in her arms. He sobbed, letting out all the emotions he had kept buried inside for so long. He had never told anyone else besides Amelia about Megan. He couldn’t possibly talk to Riggs about her- it would be too awkward. He never told anyone this, but he would often dream of her being shot in the battlefield and would wake up screaming and sweaty. Only Amelia and Cristina knew about his condition. He had been to the psychiatrist and was diagnosed with PTSD. However, there was little that the psychiatrist could do to treat it. When Amelia left for a few months- those few months when he would wake up alone, screaming after having a nightmare were the loneliest months of his life.
‘ I know- you didn’t manage to say goodbye to her.’ she said softly, as she rubbed his arm. ‘ I didn’t manage to say goodbye to Derek as well. I miss him so much too.’
Owen finally looked up at Amelia, as the realization dawned upon him that they both had something in common, they had both lost a sibling.
‘ How do you get over the loss of a sibling?’ Owen asked, as he looked up at her with teary eyes.
‘ You don’t get over it, the pain will remain with you for the rest of your life.’ she answered sadly. ‘ It would dull over time, but there is this ache that remains. I miss Derek too and think of him all the time.’
‘ For years I was clinging on to the tiny bit of hope that she might still be alive.’ Owen admitted, a downcast and crestfallen look on his face. ‘ And tonight that tiny glimpse of hope I had was crushed. I miss her so much. We had so many wonderful memories together. She’s my only sister, my only sibling.’ he shook his head sadly.
‘ I know.’ Amelia whispered softly, nodding her head in an understanding manner.
‘ I shouldn’t have let her get on the helicopter.’ he said angrily. ‘ Had I prevented her from doing so, she would still be alive right now. It’s my fault.’
‘ It’s not your fault, Owen.’ said Amelia earnestly as she held his hands in hers.
‘ It IS my fault.’ Owen insisted, frowning.
‘ Owen, look here.’ said Amelia as she cupped his face in her hands, tilting his head upwards so their eyes met.
‘ It’s not your fault, Owen. You wouldn’t have known that the helicopter would crash.  I’m sure if you knew, you wouldn’t have let her get on it.’ said Amelia as she continued looking into his eyes.
‘ They said that they found her body near the wreckage site. I really hope that she didn’t suffer too much before she…died..’ said Owen sadly, a distant look in his eyes.
‘ I hope so too.’ said Amelia softly, taking his hands in hers and using her thumb to rub soothing motions on the palm of his hands. ‘ I’m not religious, but I would like to think that she’s in a better place. That’s what I do to cheer myself up- I tell myself that my dad, Ryan, my first baby and Derek are all up in heaven, watching and smiling down at us.’
Owen closed his eyes for a moment as he tried to imagine Megan smiling down at him from heaven with her beautiful smile. He wasn’t by any means religious, but he had to admit, it was a comforting thought indeed. And maybe, his and Cristina’s aborted child was also with her, smiling down at him. Maybe Megan was taking care of his child in heaven.
They both sat in silence on the couch, thinking about their loved ones in heaven. Amelia’s head was leaned against Owen’s chest as she cuddled up close to him.
Amelia’s hand covered Owen’s as she slowly guided his hand until it rested on her growing baby bump. Over the past two weeks, the bump had grown significantly, and now more than half the hospital knew her secret.
She placed her hand over his, as both of them savored the feel of their baby under their touch.
It was then that Owen realized he had to let go of his sister, she was never coming back. It saddened him deeply, but he knew that Megan would always be with him- in his heart, and smiling down at him and his family. He loved her so much, she was his only sister and she occupied a special place in his heart. However, he knew that she was never returning to him and he had to move on. At least this was the sense of closure he needed, as sad as it was. Megan was his past, but Amelia and their baby are his future.
It was Amelia whom he would lean to for support during Megan’s funeral, and throughout the subsequent years when he would think of her. Life went on though, and he knew that Megan was smiling down at him, watching him build his family as Charlotte, Noah and Olivia arrived. Megan would live through his youngest daughter, Olivia, whose middle name was Megan after her aunt Megan. As she grew, he would notice more and more of her aunt Megan’s characteristics in her, not only in terms of appearance, but also personality. He knew that It was Megan’s way of telling him that she was never truly gone.
