1. Roadtrip - Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen x Reader - Into the Spider-Verse
@purple-dahlias' Seven sentence fic July day 1 prompt: roadtrip
Your fingers tapped rhythmically on the steering wheel, one foot lingering over the clutch as you glanced around, eventually focusing on the blueness of the sky.
You heard her before you saw her, specifically her cussing and apologising as she weaved through the crowded street, haphazardly swinging around the bag of snacks from the bodega around in the process.
"Sorry, sorry, had to stop a bank robbery in Midtown, but I got your snacks, and mine too!" Gwen grinned, passing you the bag of snacks as she tugged her hoodie sleeves down to cover her Spider-Woman suit sleeves.
"Thanks, Gwen, now, shall we get our roadtrip on the road?" You proposed, slipping the snacks into the middle compartment before your fingers lingered over the keys, waiting as Gwen nodded.
"It's weird to be leaving New York... you think they'll be okay without Spider-Woman?" Gwen's gaze lingered on the city as you pulled away from the curb to drive.
"New York will be okay, trust me." You smiled, your eyes locked on the road, cheeks warm as Gwen's gaze shifted to the side of your face.
"Trust you? Of course, trust your driving though?" Gwen teased, grinning as you faked being offended, giggles leaving your lips as Gwen burst into laughter.

Autistic!Robin | Stranger Things
Prompt: tears (from @purple-dahlias’ July challenge)
CW: overstimulation, Robin is sad :)
Tumblr media
Something Nancy realized early on was that Robin was easily overwhelmed, whether she showed it or not was the only wildcard, along with how easy it was to calm her back down. When Steve found her in the cafeteria and asked Nancy to follow him, she didn’t hesitate after she saw the tight knit of his eyebrows and worried stare.
He led her to the west wing bathrooms, explaining along the way, “Robin ran out of class when some kids got rowdy, must have spooked her because she won’t come out of the bathroom.”
Nancy nodded and immediately ducked into the bathroom, checking for those familiar beat up sneakers under the stalls, “Robbie?”
A harsh squeak of rubber soles on the ugly linoleum gave away her location, if the tiny sniffles weren’t indicative enough, and Robin mumbled something Nancy could barely understand due to the congestion in her voice.
“C’mon, Robin,” she knocked on the stall gently, “It’s just me, I wanna make sure you’re okay and-”
The door swung open and she was met with watery blue eyes and shaking hands, a sight that almost broke Nancy’s heart as she held out a hand to give Robin the choice of initiating contact. It didn’t take long until the taller girl was cautiously in her arms, a whirlwind of stuttered apologies mumbled into Nancy’s shoulder as she realized she got tears on her pretty blazer, though Nancy insisted it wasn’t a problem.

I'm a day behind, but I had a ton of brainstorming to do! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :P
Here's my challenge version: I'm trying to do both 7 sentence challenges at the same time. That will probably mean being a little loose with the prompts, but I think it's honestly kind of easier to have more than one prompt to think about at a time!
This is effectively a totally original fic, but the characters are (I guess?) slight AU versions of the characters from... a different one of my original works (see the thorn twist in your side). That one's not finished yet, though, so I guess that won't mean anything to you yet!
(also they're probably like 13 here. I couldn't figure out a way to get that very specifically into the exposition because, you know, 7 sentence original fic is kind of limiting :P)

1. road trip + salt
"I think this is sleet, actually," Carter says, cheerfully launching into a lengthy explanation of the differences between winter precipitation types and exactly how dangerous she thinks each ought to make a drive over a twisty mountain pass in a beat-up old station wagon. In the back seat, Shae folds her arms across her unsettled stomach, feet tucked underneath her, lulled by the rhythm of Carter's chatter-chatter-chatter interspersed with her dad's dutiful sounds of vague acknowledgement as he drives: "mhmm," "right," "'course, hun."
It doesn't seem to her like it matters what this is, really—sleet, hail, freezing rain—because no matter what words you use to describe it, the result seems like it'll be the same: they're going to be crawling up and down the narrow lanes of state highway whatever-the-heck at what feels like fifteen miles an hour, the car's motor wheezing like an asthmatic, until they break down and freeze to death, or slide off the road and freeze to death, or... something else involving freezing to death (the possibilities really seem endless).
Shae had been nervous about her first ski trip—maybe she'd be terrible at it; maybe her friends would all leave her behind on the training slopes, laughing at her, and she'd have to just sit in the lodge and drink hot cocoa and sulk—but at this point a comfortable, stationary place to sit and not be carsick sounds like heaven, and she says a little thanks to whatever god might be listening when Carter finally gets a momentary bar of cell service and finds them a little log-cabin-hotel-thing just off the highway.
As they enter their room and knock the snow off their boots, Carter's dad says something about waking up and setting off as soon the trucks come through with with salt for the roads, but Shae has other things on her mind: insulation is not a strong point of rustic cabin construction, she discovers with growing horror, and she's soon tangling herself in the too-thin blanket of her double bed with all of her clothes on, trying not to shiver, insisting that she's—fine, really, honest—
"...Shae, silly, c'mere," Carter whispers, though, only a few moments after they turn out the lights, raising up a corner of her blanket.
And... god, is it ever so warm to curl up next to her, not touching but almost, just listening to the sleet-or-hail-or-freezing-rain-or-whatever drumming quietly on the roof.

Seven sentence fic July day 19 - Stay. More than seven sentences but they’re short so we’ll leave it at that.
“Mom, they have to stay! Dad said he’s gonna build a house for them!” Kim stared at her daughter in bright pink pjs, foot stomping and purple, pink, and blue beads clattering in her hair.
“Mack, they’re raccoons. We’ll talk about this tomorrow, but they’re vermin.” She watched Makayla go up the stairs to her bedroom - Adam’s childhood room - and then turned to look at her boyfriend.
“They’re named Rebecca - never Becca, just Rebecca - Rodney, Ramona, and Robert. She named one after my dad, who was I to tell her no?” Adam attempted to smile to disarm her, but Kim’s face didn’t change. “Kim you need to see it. Our daughter has trained four raccoons to sit and wait for food. She’s a genius.”

day 27: sunlight established Rhodestead, unspecified timeline warnings: none
Weekends were nice, especially when their days off actually lined up and they got to spend time together, settled against each other’s side on the couch.
Connor was doing his best to ignore the sound of rain against the windows while he scrolled through his phone, occasionally shifting enough to keep red hair from tickling his cheek. It didn’t do much, not when Will was scooting closer again each time, his gaze on the small screen in his own hand. And then their positions shifted again, and Connor turned his attention away from the article he’d been reading when a head landed in his lap.
“You look comfy.”
“Oh, I’m very comfortable. I might even take a nap here. We still have a couple hours until we have to start making dinner, right? Pass me the blanket.”
With a small smile, Connor did as he asked and tugged the blanket off its perch on the back of the couch, and ignoring the rain got a lot easier when he had his own private source of sunlight to focus on, instead.

day twelve: smile | r.b. & n.w.
pairing: nancy wheeler x robin buckley
word count: 220
Tumblr media
If pressed on what she adores most about her girlfriend, Nancy would say her smile every time.
Not the one she slaps onto her face whenever her brain tells her this social situation right here needs a smile, that just looks like a pained grimace that cuts deep. Nor is it the one she wears whenever they have dinner with her parents and they start asking Nancy about Johnathan, or berating Robin for not amounting to anything - their words, certainly not Nancy’s.
No, it’s the one when she finds out something new about Nancy, collecting little tidbits of information and stashing them in the back of her mind like a squirrel and their nuts. It’s the one where she truly gets into talking about her special interests and the newest hobby that’s grabbed her attention that month, always with the same level of enthusiasm and joy.
Every time she’s on the receiving end of that smile, it’s as though she’s truly won the lottery, because no amount of money in the world could compare to the joy she feels when Robin expresses her own. Nancy would fight tooth and nail, go to the ends of the Earth to see that smile one last time, and the best part of it is, she knows Robin would do the same for her.

@purple-dahlias started a thing : day nine (clouds) : Ship: SuperCorp (buddings of it) WORD COUNT: 180 Thank you @haeva for helping me with this one! Thank you @greystreaker13 for existing :P
It was a cloudy day. The rain was bound to start any minute now. Lena rushed inside the Tower, cradling a soft, purring mess of fur. She had her hand under the cat’s chin, gently scratching. “This is Greystripe.” she introduced the SuperFriends to her new cat. “I found him on the way here.”
“And you named him Gaystreak?” Kara chortled. “I love it. You’ve definitely got a sense of humour.”
Alex started to correct Kara when Esme walked in and shouted about a kitten being in the Tower. “Hey Esme! Look what your aunt Lena brought in!” Lena softened at the title given to her. “This is Greystripe, he’s named after one of my favourite warriors.” Kara looked puzzled for a minute.
“Can I go play with him? I’ll be careful.” Esme requested. Lena nodded and shifted the cat into the kid’s arms. “Be careful with him, he’s still scared of humans I think.” she warned.
“I’m the gay one, Kara. Not Greystripe.” Lena floundered for a second after she spoke. “I mean, I.... Uh....”
Kara's mouth fell open.

fairy lights | missing
wc: 274
prompt: seven sentence fic july, day three, fairy lights
warnings: references to kidnapping/captivity and forced undressing
It goes against all of Elizabeth’s instincts to leave Sarah to her own devices when they finally get to the apartment. She does as much as Dr Andersen recommended — shows Sarah where everything is, explains that there are no locks anywhere except the front door, and that she can take as much food as she or the girls want — but after that, it’s down to Sarah to make herself comfortable and get used to her new home, and the freedom that comes with it.
Once Sarah’s finished looking around the apartment, she takes Harper and Lolly with her to their bedroom and shuts the door behind them, desperate to finally be alone with her daughters after over a week of being constantly surrounded by doctors, nurses, and cops.
There’s a proper bed here instead of just a mattress, with clean sheets, more pillows than Sarah knows what to do with, and star-shaped fairy lights wrapped around the end, and she helps Harper and Lolly onto it, making sure they’re far enough away from the edge that they won’t fall off, before stepping away to undress. She’s still not used to wearing clothes, and even the loose fitting t-shirts and sweatpants her mom bought her still feel too restrictive after years of being almost entirely uncovered.
When she’s stripped down to just her underwear and a tank top, she turns the fairy lights on and ceiling light off, then climbs into the bed and lets Harper and Lolly nestle against her. They’re asleep within minutes, and Sarah follows not long after, exhausted from the stress of the last week, and the four years before it.

Day 28 - Tears | For @purple-dahlias' Seven Sentence Fic July
"Makayla Ward Burgess Ruzek."
Adam broke the no cheering until the end rule and erupted into applause as she walked across the stage accepting her diploma. Kim stood next to her husband, holding onto his arm, filming every moment as tears fell from her eyes. The younger twins followed in their father's footsteps and started jumping up and down, screaming for their big sister. Makayla spotted them in the crowd and rolled her eyes in response, but then also blew a kiss their way in appreciation as she wouldn't have made it to this day without all of their support.
"Mom, Dad, are you crying?" AJ and Olivia asked in unison. "Yes, we are and thank goodness we have another ten years to prepare ourselves before the two of you graduate," Kim answered.

@purple-dahlias seven sentence fic for july #5: picnic
Well, eight sentences. I’ll work on it. Could be from a WIP. Haven’t decided…
Jamie watches as Nina moves away from him, out of the cemetery. He turns and walks out himself, continuing along a gravel path, until he comes to a city park. He sits on the bench and pulls out a sandwich and his phone. He waits for the FaceTime to connect.
Nell Van Dieman sits on what looks likes a picnic bench outside of a standard government prefab, her pilot’s gear donned, with the helmet and oxygen mask next to her. She grins at him, then opens the MRE. “Helluva idea for a picnic, babe,” she says. “You in Chicago and me in Guam with the lights on. Just glad it’s not me sitting out on the tarmac next to the BUFF.”

4. Postcard - Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen x Reader - Into the Spider-Verse
@purple-dahlias' Seven sentence fic July day 4 prompt: postcard
"Hey... I'll send you a postcard or two from Earth-1610, okay? directly to Earth-65, I promise," lingering with her foot on the window pane, Gwen frowned at the worry in your eyes.
"How?" Tilting your head to the side in question.
"I'll find a way, babe," Gwen answered, pulling her hood over her face as she slipped her Spider-Woman mask back on.
You didn't see her again after that evening, Gwen had left for Earth-1610, Miles' earth, months ago.
Only one postcard came, slightly singed, the 'Welcome to New York' slogan left you with a bittersweet smile, as you waited for Gwen to come back.
Except there was one problem.
She never did.

day three: fairy lights
Tumblr media
warnings: none
It’s one of the first things Sarah does when she arrives. Maybe a little silly because she is, after all, a grown adult. But she does it all the same.
They happen to be in one of the first boxes she could bring herself to unpack— most of those containing clothes and books and all manner of her other possessions remain stacked against a wall in what should be her living room. Her bed frame is still unassembled, propped up in a corner of the room; for now her bed is a mattress, a faded green throw cushion that’s not really meant for sleeping on, and a knitted maroon blanket. But it serves its purpose, Sarah finds, carefully taking the string of star-shaped fairy lights and hanging them over the little hooks she had put up, purchased from the hardware store in town earlier that day, when she’d ventured out for some essentials.
Eventually she’s finished, and Sarah flips the little switch, standing back to admire her handy work: now almost dark, the lights draped across her new bedroom wall cast a warm, inviting glow about the room, and it’s in that moment that Sarah decides that yes, things will work out.

Autistic!Eddie Munson | Stranger things
Prompt: Startle (from @purple-dahlias’ July challenge)
CW: sensory overstimulation mention
Tumblr media
Eddie had always been quick to anger, it was the first thing teachers noted on his report cards growing up. Being diagnosed autistic at age 12 made a lot of things make sense for him, though it also led to his treatment from others being less than desirable. If there was anything worse than being in Hawkins, it was being gay and autistic in Hawkins; which he had quickly learned when he was held back another year.
He never told people about his autism, letting them treat him like just a weird kid who should have left high school years before; Eddie “the freak” Munson didn’t need another reason for people to hate him. The first person he ever told ended up being Robin Buckley of all people, who stood with him in the empty kitchen of Victor Creel’s home waiting for the others to reappear, and watched him shake out his hands aggressively after dropping an old bottle back into the sink with a crash.
“Jesus H. Christ,” he spat as the glass shattered but the slimy feeling of old whatever still lingered on his skin, “This house is fucking gross!”
Robin jumped a little, startled by his sudden outburst and the loud crash of broken glass, curious eyes focused on his frustrated movements and he knew what her next question would be; though he didn’t expect her to know exactly how he felt.

Seven sentence fic July: Startle.
From a Kim was never rescued fic TWs for drugging, abductions, threats to the lives of children, beatings
One more turn. One more turn and the window would open and she could get out. Kim didn’t know how many days she’d been there but she needed out. She needed to see her daughter again, needed to see Adam. Needed to tell them everything she hadn’t said.
“She’s getting away!” The voice startled her, losing her surprise advantage and as she was pulled to the ground she could feel her shoulder crunch, a yell of pain her only words before the needle entered her again.
She was back floating, the medication tamping down her worry. She was so close. So so close.
The routine continued, being pulled out of the medication and tied up with a paper in her hands - the Peoria Journal Star this time, she thought. The flashes went again, and she was brought back to the basement she’d been put in this time.
Instead of food and medication like they’d been doing she was tied there like an animal, her wrists and ankles cuffed together. Walton came down and she forced herself not to cower away from the older man, staring at him with hatred.
“I heard you tried escaping,” he said as he spread photos out in front of her. The part of her brain still functioning could tell they were good quality surveillance ones, but she didn’t want to recognise the people in it. “If you ever try that again, I’ll kill him and take her. A girl like her would go for a pretty penny in my line of work.”
It was an injection and he undid her bonds, leaving Kim with the photos of her love and her daughter. She stared at them as the fuzziness filled her brain, her defences gone. She couldn’t let Makayla be hurt anymore. Adam could protect her. And Kim would take whatever they gave so she could do her part to protect her too.

day 24: startle Magic AU, after Mouse starts working with Intelligence warnings: weapon (a knife is present)
The job was easy enough, especially when he had the cover of using a whole set up of computers and databases to cover his tracks. Mouse liked the safety in it, the ability to pretend he was as normal as almost everyone upstairs assumed he was, even while he used the powers he had almost every second of the day. And that was what he was doing, then, his eyes unfocused while he guided the program on the screens, following the magical threads closer and closer to the address he needed to find.
That was how he spent most of his afternoons, doing magic - sometimes he had a snack, or something to fidget with, or a tall can of something that contained too much caffeine, but he was always alone. At least on that afternoon in particular, he thought he was alone, until a hand came to his shoulder and startled him out of his magical task in an instant. and then it was instinct, responding to touch, something that even most strangers understood wasn’t allowed, pulling at a different universal thread until he felt the weight of the item in his hand.
When Mouse twisted and got to his feet, he slid into offensive action instead of defense and brought the knife up in a smooth motion, stopping at the intruder’s neck as a warning just as he locked eyes with... Jay.
