Stevie does teeny things to help autistic!reader. Always having gum on hand to satiate ur oral stimming. Keeps plasters in his pocket from when u bite ur cuticles so much they bleed. Bitey toys, or just offers his arm for u to gnaw on. Watches the same shows over and over again because you can’t start anything new
content warnings: autistic!reader, autistic!eddie and robin too (i love them okay), reader is overstimulated and accidentally hurts herself, descriptions of blood from injuries, she uses chewy toys and uses steve as a chewy toy lmfao, a little crying, hurt/comfort. pretty sure this covers it all hahaha
note: i wrote a whole essay on this SORRY LOL and it’s kinda sadder than i anticipated
steve knows what you need ninety nine percent of the time. he’s amazing at picking up on your needs when non-verbal and even better when it comes to having everything you might need on hand at all times; gum, fidget toys, chewy toys, plasters. he’ll offer you something to chew when you bite your nails or your fingers or your lips until they bleed, cleaning you up and distracting you with something else to focus on.
today’s not a great day. everything’s been overwhelming and you’ve been permanently overstimulated, biting your nails down to the quick until your cuticles and fingertips started bleeding. still, you haven’t stopped. steve hasn’t been with you for a couple of hours, needing to tend to other pressing matters, but he knows he’ll come back to you tearing yourself apart despite asking the others to keep an eye on you. he’s usually so good at keeping on top of your needs; it’s just unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to supervise today.
he enters eddie’s trailer to raucous shouting and laughter. eddie and robin seem to be engaged in a heated debate, one you would be involved in on some days. but not now. it’s too much, too loud. god, were the lights always this bright? when did their voices become so grating? his eyes scan the vicinity for you quickly and he rushes to the very corner of the room where you’ve practically camouflaged yourself, curled up with your knees to your chest and your fingers in your mouth, blood dripping no matter how much you suck off and lick away.
“hey, bug,” comes steve’s gentle voice; it pulls you from the verge of a meltdown somewhat, his presence alone letting you know that it’s okay, you’re gonna go home now. “let’s head out, alright? we can go home, watch some star wars?” you nod a little, eyes glassy, still gnawing away at your hands. “good girl. want a piggyback?” you nod again, timid, and let him crouch in front of you until you climb onto his back.
his smell, the firmness of him underneath you has you burying your face in the back of his neck and hiccuping little sobs. steve has to nudge robin and eddie to pull their attention away from their bickering. he has to keep from sounding too stern.
“i’m taking y/n home. we’ll see you at the weekend?”
eddie shoots up. they got so far lost in whatever trivial topic they were discussing that they forgot how overstimulated you get.
“y/n,” he murmurs, tapping your shoulder. “i’m sorry we got distracted— fuck, your hands. ‘m sorry, should’ve known better. noise is the worst thing when i get like that, too.” you reach out and squeeze his hand in your own.
“‘s okay…” you mumble, sniffing. eddie’s brows knit together.
“we’ll make it up to you this weekend. do whatever you want. star wars marathon?” that brings a smile to your face.
“‘kay.”
“see you, bug.”
steve carries you to the car and sets you down outside the passenger seat, letting you climb in; as soon as he’s seated too he leans over to root in the glovebox for disinfectant, plasters and a chewy toy.
“come climb in my lap, sweetheart,” he says, patting his thigh invitingly. you do as he says, still crying a little as he begins to wipe and bandage your sore fingers. “good girl. put this in your mouth.” he hands you your pink chewy, smiling as you begin to gnaw on it and visibly relax. “thought you were gonna take chewy with you today? you forget?”
“think it’s gross,” you grumble quietly.
“who thinks it’s gross?”
“dunno. people will think i’m gross. unsanitary.” your answers are garbled around your toy, but steve knows. he always knows.
“have you met those two? eddie chews his own hair so much i’m sure he has a hairball. and robin bites nancy all the time. there’s no way they’ll think you’re gross. they’ll probably want one for themselves, bug.” he kisses the palm of your hand. “all done, sweet thing.”
“thanks. ‘nd i’m sorry. ‘m so embarrassing.”
“you’re not. promise. you just have different needs sometimes and that’s okay. ‘s why i’m here.” you press your head to his chest, still chewing furiously. “let’s go home.”
“can i have jus’ a minute?” you ask. he smiles; you’ve been working on being able to communicate your needs with him and it finally seems like it’s paying off.
“of course, bug. you want my arm for a minute?”
“please.”
you wrap yourself around steve, replacing the chewy toy with his thick forearm. you’re careful, more careful than you are with yourself, teeth pressing gently into the flesh of his muscle and lips sucking softly. when your eyes flutter closed, finally calm, he deems it time to head home for real.

Headcanon (Robin/Ronance):
The first time Robin drank coffee she was around 12yo and she did it behind her parents’ backs (they didn’t want her more nervous than usual). She didn’t like it but it also didn’t affect her (because it was a really light instant coffee).
She grew up thinking caffeine didn’t do sh1t to her until one night while being with Nancy, helping her out with the newspaper, she accepted her offer to have a cup of espresso, and oh boy.
She started feeling her heart rate increase more than usual, her muscles tingled and buzzed and she felt like when she was about to have an anxiety attack.
Nancy noticed her stimming more than usual (wringing her hands and moving her leg) and she asked her if she was ok, to which Robin answered “I think so? I don’t know, I feel weird” with her breathing jagged.
They understood at that moment that concentrated caffeine did affect her, and bad.
To help her calm down they went out to stroll a bit, hand in hand, the cold night air stinging but somehow soothing Robin’s muscles, Nancy talking to her about anything she could think about to distract her, feeling Robin’s thumb rub circles on the back of her hand, soothing both of them.
BONUS:
Luckily for Robin she’s anyway more of a tea kind of girl, unlike Nancy who runs mostly on coffee.
But that also makes Robin almost immune to green o black teas digestive powers, so when she eats too much and needs help, she drinks coffee instead of tea (but she makes sure its instant coffee because she doesn’t have a death wish)

when robin had had a particularly bad day, what always made her feel better were movies.
not even necessarily watching one (though she did love coming up with her own theories and analyzing the plot while watching a movie), simply getting to talk about a movie that interested her at the time sent happy sparks through her whole body.
before she met steve, she didn’t really have anyone who liked listening to her talk about her interests. sure, she could talk to her mom, but she always told her to talk a bit quieter (she did get quite loud when she got excited, steve confirmed once when she asked him about it) and didn’t really pay attention.
but with steve she knew that she could talk his ear off for a while and he wouldn’t mind. he knew how important those talks were to her, he might’ve even felt honored to be the one who got to listen to her talk about her favorite things (he told her this one time after she went down her usual “oh no i talk too much and you must hate me now”-road).
they would have movie nights (with lots of popcorn) together and steve wanted to hear all her theories about the movie they were currently watching, listened to her list off where he just HAD to know the actors from and if he didn’t know them they would add the other movie straight to their watchlist. of course his own theories were also thrown out there, and robin was more than ecstatic when one of their speculations came true throughout the course of the movie.
they would celebrate with even more popcorn.
she felt incredibly lucky to have him in her life.

I just NEED to talk more about autistic/adhd robin.
So, autistic + adhd! robin buckley hcs, here we go!
She feels good music. Like mrs girl is jumping and swaying to any good song she hears, she stomps and dances around if its good.
She listens to her language tapes to calm down on a rough day, it surprisingly helps a lot. Gives her something to focus on.
When overwhelmed, something she does is count backwards in french or russian.
She'll stim by drumming her fingers on flat surfaces. Usually to the rhythm of a song shes done in band, sometimes songs she likes.
If shes really overwhelmed and can't calm down, she has a bad habit of hitting her head with her fists or wrists.
She bounces on her heels or toes when shes in a good mood but needs to move
I think its called echolalia?? she repeats things a lot. Like good words or phrases are a brrr brain thing.
^ this applies to movie quotes a lot!! she'll go around speaking in full film quotes.
She also literally has erased the word 'me' from her vocabulary. She mixes english with the languages shes learned, but she always says 'moi' instead of 'me' because it makes her happy.
She goes from being really touchy with the people she trusts to not wanting touch at all. Shes usually gotta be the one to initiate physical contact or its not okay
She goes between being super talkitive to barely verbal or completely non verbal.
She likes to rub her face, like just feeling her own face
She also likes to rub soft textures against her face
Shes awful at controlling her volume
Tone too
She makes really really obvious faces. Like she'll be obviously uncomfortble and try to be like "oh.. Its okay-" no love it isnt and evrryone else knows too.
Shes usually really honest, especially with people she doesn't like. She doesn't get why its rude to tell someone she doesn't like them, they deserve to know, right? (..no ur projecting)
When she thinks/focuses she makes odd faces. *her focusing* "..robin are you trying to shit urself?" AND POOR GIRL DOESNT KNOW WHY, like she always forgets she makes weird faces.
I do not know if this is an autism/adhd thing or if its jus a me thing but I think she'd have a ton of creative/art journals. they'd revolve around her emotions, interests and the people in her life. - she also has a special like, 10 pages (per journal) for her to write, draw and put pics of cute animals she sees.
does the lil cricket foots thing to go to sleep.
I guess that's enuf for tonight because I have school and I'm tired. Will most likely make a pt2.

sapphic senate when an artist they love drops a new album (but like modern au)
nancy:
pre-album release she’ll read and watch all the interviews for it so she knows what to exepct
she’s a reasonable human being (most of the time). she’ll wait until morning to listen to something that dropped at midnight. she listens to it once through without liking anything or on shuffle, just to get a feel of it.
after that she’ll go through it again and listen to the lyrics and like the songs and then after that she’ll put it on shuffle and memorize the lyrics. after she’s got it down, her FAVORITE thing ever is to blast it in her car and sing along at the top of her lungs (something only robin is privy to seeing)
chrissy:
oh she’d be able to listen to it as soon as it drops because she’s a creature who can exist without sleep. she’s probably told everyone around her at least 15 times (a day).
she plays it full blast, thankfully not out loud in the middle of the night, and dance around and in general vibe to every song and immediately adds her favs to her playlists
she’ll try to memorize the lyrics in the first play through and manages to get most of them. she’ll bring the party into the shower and have a mini concert to all the shampoo and conditioner bottles and acts like she didn’t just play 8 encores when she gets out.
vickie:
if she LOVES the artist then she’ll stay up till 12 am when it drops and listen to it on repeat until she passes out.
if she isn’t a huge huge fan then she’ll wait for morning like nancy, but regardless she’ll blast it out loud and doesn’t care that it could probably wake up everyone who isn’t awake at 6:45.
the first thing she’d pay attention to is the beat and the instruments she can pick out before diving into the lyrics (both of which she memorizes easily)
robin:
she’d carefully mention it a few times before it drops and then wait for someone to bring it up once she’s listened to it (‘hey rob so how was-‘ ‘STEVE ITS SO. GOOD.’)
they would try to stay up for a midnight release but probably fall asleep. but they wake up much earlier than normal so they can listen to it as soon as possible.
she listens to it on repeat for weeks on weeks, sometimes as background noise or they’ll listen carefully and pick out new sounds and has the lyrics down in the second play through. she can’t contain n herself and has to dance around and stim wildly or she’ll combust

i can just imagine Eddie starting the Penis Game somewhere extremely inappropriate to fuck with Steve and Nancy and Robin joining in. like he just gets bored and says it somewhat softly while they're eating lunch at a fast food place, and Robin immediately joins in saying it a bit louder than it needs to be to move the game along and Steve and Nancy are immediately like "oh, for fucks' sake, Eddie." because while they don't mind how quickly the game gets escalated when it's just them, but in public it's a different story. it goes back and forth between Eddie and Robin for a bit until Steve finally just gives in and yells the word penis, getting literally everyone's attention. Nancy follows his lead and eventually they're just four late-teens/early-twenty-somethings screaming "penis" back and forth until they get kicked out of wherever they are. i imagine that if Johnathan was with them he would laugh and would probably he the one to apologize for them, but he would also be the one to scream "penis" the loudest as soon as they get outside.

Autistic!Robin | Stranger Things
Prompt: tears (from @purple-dahlias’ July challenge)
CW: overstimulation, Robin is sad :)
Tumblr media
Something Nancy realized early on was that Robin was easily overwhelmed, whether she showed it or not was the only wildcard, along with how easy it was to calm her back down. When Steve found her in the cafeteria and asked Nancy to follow him, she didn’t hesitate after she saw the tight knit of his eyebrows and worried stare.
He led her to the west wing bathrooms, explaining along the way, “Robin ran out of class when some kids got rowdy, must have spooked her because she won’t come out of the bathroom.”
Nancy nodded and immediately ducked into the bathroom, checking for those familiar beat up sneakers under the stalls, “Robbie?”
A harsh squeak of rubber soles on the ugly linoleum gave away her location, if the tiny sniffles weren’t indicative enough, and Robin mumbled something Nancy could barely understand due to the congestion in her voice.
“C’mon, Robin,” she knocked on the stall gently, “It’s just me, I wanna make sure you’re okay and-”
The door swung open and she was met with watery blue eyes and shaking hands, a sight that almost broke Nancy’s heart as she held out a hand to give Robin the choice of initiating contact. It didn’t take long until the taller girl was cautiously in her arms, a whirlwind of stuttered apologies mumbled into Nancy’s shoulder as she realized she got tears on her pretty blazer, though Nancy insisted it wasn’t a problem.

Autistic Eddie & Robin Headcanons
- Eddie was diagnosed at 5 years old after his teachers at school told Wayne to get him tested
- He always eats the same thing for breakfast, which is Rice Krispies
- He has a select few clothes he wears and has a few Hellfire Shirts because they’re his comfort clothes
- Robin found out he was autistic after she had a meltdown in front of him and he knew exactly what to do.
- He let her use his stim toy (a tangle he always keeps in his jacket pocket) and told her that she was safe with him.
- Eddie and Robin have “special interest nights” where they have sleepovers and engage in their special interests.
- Eddie talks to her about DnD lore and Robin talks about facts about the ocean!
- Eddie and Robin stim freely when they’re in each other’s company.
- They sometimes stim together by humming at the same pitch.
- Lots of happy hands during their special interest nights :)
- Robin helped Eddie to paint his ear defenders!
- Wayne had bought him yellow ear defenders because black were out of stock, so Robin brought black paint during one of their sleepovers and they painted them together :)
- They both have the same safe meal, which is buttered pasta!
- They never mask in front of each other and have communication cards in case either of them go nonverbal
- Love and support each other sm

Headcanon (ronance):
Robin was late diagnosed for her ADHD (she actually went behind her parents backs because to them her traits were only seen as flaws and something “normal”), so the only people to know of her official diagnosis were Steve and Nancy.
Nancy has seen Robin fidget with her fingers/nails, the hem of her shirts, etc, so she got her as a birthday present a couple of fidget toys, and every time they go out she can see Robin with one of the toys always with her

Eddie sometimes went quiet.
Wayne noticed it after Eddie moved in. He didn't do it as much when he was little and Mary would bring him round, but here he was at ten years old completely silent. When Eddie was little Wayne assumed the boy was just shy, but now that he lived with Eddie he knew that sometimes a whole week would pass with not a peep from the young boy. M
The doctor said it might be a trauma response, might just be something he would do from time to time, either way, Eddie Munson, one of the loudest and dramatic kids Wayne had ever met would still be him, just nonverbal. They worked with a notebook but sometimes Eddie would get frustrated he wasn't being answered fast enough and they were running out of paper.
It was Wayne's buddy from work that presented a solution. "Have you tried sign language? My son was born deaf and Susan and I went to night classes so we could talk to the kid." So that's exactly what Wayne did, he moved his shifts to the day and spent his nights at the school learning to talk to his boy. On his days off he'd show Eddie what he'd learnt and slowly they were able to bridge the gap that the silence presented.
The silent days didn't stop as he grew older, his teachers didn't really understand and sometimes he'd end up in detention with a note saying he was being disrespectful. His friends understood though and enthusiastically asked Eddie to teach them sign language, they'd use it even when Eddie was happily chatting with them, they liked that they shared a 'secret' language from the bullies.
He hadn't had any silent days since Vecna, which Eddie thought was a miracle in itself given the circumstances. However, he woke up a couple months after spring break knowing what kind of day it was going to be. He felt frustrated with himself, he was supposed to be hanging out with Steve and Robin today and was worried with how they'd take it, especially Steve. They'd been dancing around each other's feelings lately and he didn't want to ruin everything before it even started. Resigned he grabbed a notebook and pen and headed to Family Video.
He'd spent ten minutes psyching himself up in the parking lot before heading inside, note written and ready explaining that no it wasn't anything Upside Down related, he just wouldn't be speaking today. The door's bell rings in his ear as he stops suddenly staring at the scene before him. Steve and Robin were, quite rapidly, signing at each other. Steve turns at the bell, smiling at Eddie.
"Eddie!"
Still in a bit of shock, Eddie signs on instinct, "You know sign?"
Steve has the same look of shock now, before his face breaks into an even bigger smile and signs back, "You know sign! You know sign, how, why?"
His hands are faster than his brain as he explains how he goes quiet sometimes, and Wayne and night classes and Hellfire before asking Steve how he and Robin know sign.
Steve looks bashful as he signs back, "Um, after Starcourt my hearing started to go, so Robin, ever the linguist, insisted we learn, which was actually very smart of her. I can still kinda hear but I get by mainly on lip reading."
Things started to make sense now to Eddie, how sometimes Steve seemed to just nod and smile at whatever the kids were saying, or would need things repeated to him. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Why didn't you tell me about going nonverbal? Robbie has days like that too."
"Didn't want you to think I was weird."
"I like that you're weird, I like you, Eds."
Eddie blushes at what he interprets is his sign name from Steve, the letter E and the sign for love combined.
"I like you too, Stevie." Eddie signs, the letter S mixed with the sign for heart.
Eddie may still have his silent days, but now he shares them with Steve, and they can sign the things he's not allowed to say out loud, making sure they both know they're loved.
