HI ALL!!! back after a hot minute with my work for @transformers-electric-metal!!! it's SUCH a cool zine (it's tf ocs!! hello!!!) and i'm so glad i got to participate!! i did art And a fic for this zine, both about my old lady Bramble here, tho they aren't necessarily connected :3 just the same gorl!!

and also. i swear to god the lights were blue yellow and pink the whole time i worked on this. my horror after hours of shading to realize that my pinks had become purples....... unspeakable.

this is not really important at all lol but i remembered you saying in the post about the new west end alts how hannah had 2 pink glitters and everyone else has only gotten one and inez showed she actually has (at least) 3 pink glitters on her instagram takeover today!
Yeah, they all get additional glitters as time goes on! Particularly true for Howards because there are so many pink options on the market, and particularly true for non-white actors as they try to figure out the right shade. Most of them have wound up having 3-4+, just out of the ones Six has provided them (and many have added more out of their own budget or stipend). They usually get started out with one at the start of tech and then more will be added pretty quickly if needed.
The relevancy of the glitters to alt costumes is specifically that both alts got three in clearly defined principal and alt colors: Naomi green/red/orange, and Hannah hot pink/dark blue/light pink. Hannah also got the three lipsticks including the typical Howard, Parr, and pink alt colors. Those were all in the original start of tech bags. None of that is to say that Hannah couldn't use her light pink glitter for Howard AND pink alt, and I actually expect that that was part of the intent considering her palettes are very easily able to be used for both Howard and pink alt (just like Naomi's can be used for all three). But it's the inclusion of exactly three (as opposed to uniformly 1 for each principal or 2 for each) + one of each actor's three being a clear alt color, particularly noting Naomi having orange since that cannot be explained by either of her principal costumes.

Today’s Lesson: Clothes Make The Characters
Today’s Teacher: Swolemates by LummyPix
Hi, I'm back! And by back I mean I had an idea for a lesson and have returned to impart it to the masses before disappearing back into my cave.
I've been reading Swolemates by LummyPix and generally enjoying it- the jokes are generally pretty funny and the story, a college comedy about a gamer jock and the influencer next door, is genuinely unique for the platform. And of the three main gripes I have with it, two of them are minor nitpicks (the character names are all a few letters off from names an actual person might have, the desaturated color palette makes everyone's skin look slightly gray), but one is, I think, more broadly applicable to other comics as well.
Clothing.
Making a comic is hard because in addition to being a writer and a draftsperson, you have to also be a prop designer, actor, set designer, colorist, cameraman, and costumer all in one. That last role in particular is missing from Swolemates, where all of the characters are first year college students that wear plain T-shirts, tank tops, and sweatpants all the time.
I've been reading a lot of Derek "Menswear Guy' Guy's tweets lately, like many people, and one of the ideas he brings up a lot is that clothing is a language. Your outfit communicates things about you to the people who see you: information about your status, occupation, and personality. A comic that doesn't pay attention to the clothing the characters wear is missing out on an opportunity to tell the reader additional information about their characters, which I feel like is happening here.
The reader is told that Dani is a Popular Girl and Shaye is Alt/Nerdy, and while their hair and makeup reflects those characteristics, their clothing does not. Most of the time, every single character is wearing a plain, solid-color T-shirt. Nobody ever wears a pattern or a shirt with a graphic or text on it.
You don't! You look like a video game avatar someone stopped customizing after they finished the hair and face! Which is worse!
The makeover arc the above screenshot comes from is not used for the traditional makeover arc reason of showing the reader the protag in many cute outfits, but to allow Alex and Shaye to bond more and show how Alex is so fit and buff regular pants don't fit her. Which is a missed opportunity to find Alex clothes she looks good in that fit her personal style and aesthetic, and that would distinguish her from the rest of the cast.
The desaturated color palette doesn't help either.
After this sequence, Alex and Dani both go right back to wearing plain solid-color t-shirts, and occasionally tank tops. The makeover and Dani's interest in fashion are both fleeting and temporary.
A simple change that would increase the realism of everyone's outfits and add personality would be to put graphics on the shirts. Shaye could wear anime merch, Alex could wear video game shirts, Dani could wear college merch. If there's one thing I know about college student fashion, it's that everyone ends up wearing shirts they got for free from their school at random events, and nerdy kids wear shirts about the things they like (as a comics major at art school, I found myself in multiple classes where every single student was wearing a shirt from a comic/movie/game they like.)
A more involved change would be to assign everyone a general color palette they tend to wear and make sure they wear things with patterns, prints, and accessories, at least occasionally. Shaye could wear skinny jeans, Docs, band wristbands. Alex could wear streetwear that is both comfortable for her and reflects her video game interests.
The makeover sequence also serves to communicate to the reader that the creator is not personally interested in fashion or clothes and will not be considering them in this comic, which is a real shame because, like I said, clothing is an opportunity to show readers more about what kind of people these characters are, and is an important part of character design. The clothes people wear are often not even about what's currently fashionable (especially these days, with current trends cycling faster than a washing machine), but out of a desire to signal that you belong to a particular group. Like how finance bros all wear those fleece vests, and fans of musicians wear shirts from their concerts.
It's easy to feel intimidated by the amount of history and possibilities fashion opens up in regards to character design, so creators who aren't personally interested in fashion might try to avoid thinking about it because it's easier that way. But if you take the time to do a bit of research and think a bit about what your characters would actually wear, it will pay off.
Also, as a practical consideration, iconic clothes a character wears could become merchandise for your comic later on!
Exercise: Now it's your turn to give your characters a wardrobe overhaul! Draw your characters in their underwear as a base, copy paste that base several times, and draw a few outfits over it. Try to come up with at least 3 daily wear outfits, what the character wears to sleep, a formal look and a first date look. Think about what your characters value in clothing-- comfort, showing off, expressing their personality, belonging to a subculture? Where do your characters get their clothes- do they go shopping with friends, do their parents pick them out, are they wearing a school or work uniform whenever we see them and if so how do they customize that uniform, if they do customize it? Also consider color schemes and recurring motifs.
Webtoon Recs: I want to recommend Cursed Princess Club again because it's not a comic about fashion in any way, but it uses the characters' clothing to communicate information extremely effectively. Everyone's outfits communicate where they're from and what their position is. Everyone from the Pastel Kingdom wears pastels, everyone from the Plaid Kingdom wears plaid, everyone from the Geometric Kingdom wears shapes. Calpernia's crown has a net attached to it to allude to her spider-themed curse. The major characters are also clearly color coded, making it easy to keep track of them in a busy scene. Gwen is green (and her love interest Frederick is a darker green plaid), Lorena is lavender, Maria is powder blue, Jamie is pink. The way they dress reflects their personalities as well, and when special events like balls happen their outfits for those events also help communicate the characters' personalities.
It's not necessary to focus entirely on fashion and clothes to create outfits for your characters that help tell your story better!
Also Cursed Princess Club is just extremely good all around.
A comic that is about fashion and using clothes to express yourself (but also about teen drama and gender/sexuality) that I enjoy is Acception. The main character is a fashion/sewing youtuber who befriends a goth girl in his class, but not everyone around him is as interested in fashion as he is. The goth girl's brother, for example, dresses much more casually and simply than she does, and the character designs for everyone slowly change over the course of the comic as people get different haircuts or teenage growth spurts, or decide to try something new with their style as they get older. I especially like how Iris's outfits frequently incorporate butterfly shapes as something she likes to wear.
It's cute and funny, and puts a lot of thought into its details despite having a simpler art style than many webtoons.
Clothes are an important part of character design, and too many people neglect to think as much about them as they should.

Okay so before I saw your design for the RAM!AU I’d actually been thinking quite a bit about what Vox would look like in this, so if you don’t mind, I want to write down some of my thoughts about an alt design of sorts for him
I think both his antennae would be bent, like you drew them, since they’re often written to be in some way connected to his thoughts and . Well .
I think his outfit would definitely take after Alastor, maybe even moreso, with a few changes to be more… uh, docile ? Like, his shoulder pads would be horizontal instead of going upwards like Alastor’s do . Alastor’s suit kinda goes into a triangle shape at the bottom, so Vox would have that but it would be shorter . His tie would still be big but it would have the same shape as Alastor’s . I don’t think he’d wear as much blue if he wears blue at all, or at the very least he definitely wouldn’t wear the bright cyan since that’s something he didn’t wear as often back when he was a box-screen . Also, the cross Alastor has on his chest would be replaced with an X because it’s a type of crucifix that’s was specifically requested by someone who didn’t think they deserved to be on the same level as the J-boy himself and, well, we know Alastor doesn’t see Vox as an equal anymore .
Those are the big ones but some others thoughts I had were that Vox probably has like . No edge to him anymore . Because while Alastor sucks at taking responsibility, there are times where even he has to step in and take care of Vox . For example, if Vox ever hurts himself because he, hypothetically, forgets that he’s a demon with super sharp claws that can easily pierce through his screen…. Well, then the easy solution would simply be to file them down, no? Declaw him? (I’ve heard declawing has like pretty bad effects on cats too so . Easy angst for him and maybe indirect angst for Husk who has to deal with like….. phantom limb pains but in reverse ?)
Anyway yeah . Just wanted to say some thoughts I had . Love this AU btw !
Yeah, I thought about incorporating more of Alastor's design elements, but I ended up just kinda not? I did try to make the red in his palette more prominent though.
The similar suits is quite a good idea, but I wanted him in casual clothes– he may want to continue dressing sharp, but he's just not in a headspace where he can wear a suit 24/7 anymore without it being constantly damaged and disheveled. Plus, the design I drew is specifically for the hotel route, so I wanted to keep the outfit more reminiscent of clothes a handyman would wear while still incorporating the 50s aesthetic and keeping it recognizably Vox. I let him keep his little bowtie though, since that's one aspect of his base design that he definitely stole from Alastor, and there's symbolism to be had by leaving it perpetually undone.
But oh man, that declawing idea is deliciously brutal. Heck, Alastor might not have even been the one responsible for it– what if it was Val and Velvette? An act of care gone wrong? I mean, how were they supposed to know that not every part of Vox's body is purely synthetic...

Hello! I learned how long of a period ancient egypt covered recently and just saw your blog and was curious: I assume there were changes in the Pharaoh system across that time? How far back can we go with that royalty, do you know? Was incest always a big deal? I'm fascinated by the notion of a sort of monarchical system that lasted millenia so far in the past, I wonder who the first pharaoh was 🤔
The first King (Pharaoh wasn't used as a proper title for a King until the reign of Merenptah) of a united Upper and Lower Egypt was Narmer, creator of the Narmer palette. Kings existed before this point, but there were two separate kingdoms (Upper and Lower Egypt) and the information we have on this era is spotty at best. We can trace kings back to roughly 3200 BCE, though they likely existed before this point we just don't have documented information on them. Both these questions can be answered by googling 'Who was Egypt's first Pharaoh?' and 'List of Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt'.
Incest, while practiced during earlier periods of Ancient Egypt in royal families, is mostly contained to the Ptolemaic period, where, to consolidate power, they married their siblings. In earlier periods it was more common to be Uncle/Niece marriages, cousins, or brother/sister marriages (most of these were ceremonial rather than done to produce children). The most common one cited is Tutankhamun and Ankhensenamun, which is complicated because ancient dna can really only tell you if they're related just not by how much (I mean Ay, his successor, was his great uncle or grandad in law...we think??). We don't even know that Tutankhamun is Akhenaten's son, despite Hawass claiming him to be so, because it merely shows he is a close male relative but not necessarily his son. Anyway, the reason Tutankhamun was likely married to Ankhensenamun was to try to hold on to the royal line after the Amarna period, and you could do that by marrying two people of royal blood, thus quelling (for a limited time) any challenges to power. I mean a huge deal is made out of 'incest' in Ancient Egypt, when it's more often than not centuries apart in instances, ceremonial, and done to consolidate power. To me it feels deeply othering and frankly, I'll say it, pretty racist (not you, just the idea of it) to focus on the Ancient Egyptians and incest as an overwhelming negative 'eww look at those people doing barbaric things' when you see the same practices across World History in almost all cultures. Look at the Habsburg's for goodness sake! European Royalty in general! That lot have been marrying their cousins for centuries because it was politically convenient. So when we say 'incest happened in Ancient Egypt' we mean 'incest happened between a small group of people mostly for power consolidation and ceremonial reasons, and wasn't considered 'normal' for most people'.
As for changes to the Monarchical system; yes, there were some. Nothing can go 3000 years completely unchanged. The change is incremental, though, and difficult to explain to people since it takes place over such a long period of time. So in very general terms; we start off with the King as a living Horus, a divine being. This is during the Old Kingdom. They're not quite a god, which is a misconception, but we tend to run with it since that's the easiest way to get people to understand the level of power we're looking at. They do, however, have a full council of Viziers, Governors, Overseers, Scribes and the like to do most tasks. Pepi II dies after reigning for 63-94ish years (accounts differ), his son only reigns one year, and things start to go to shit. And just because I can I'm gonna meme it

Anyway, just like the time multiple people declared themselves pope, many powerful men in Egypt declared themselves King and Egypt's Old Kingdom crumbles into the First Intermediate Period and it's chaotic. This is where we lose 'King is Horus, a divine being on Earth' and move towards 'King was sent by the gods' in the Middle Kingdom.
Due to the previous problems, a lot of Middle Kingdom propaganda, and it is propaganda, is all about how the King is listening to his people and looking sad. Google statues of Senwosret II & III (not Senwosret I, he's always smiling because @rudjedet found him and it's kinda weird), and you'll see they have very large ears and Senwosret III in particular has a very sad expression. This is supposed to be a reflection of their care that the country has Been Through Things™ and that their people are Going Through It Rn™. They've still got all the same council people as the Old Kingdom, they just project more of an idea of 'we care about you uwu' than the previous ones did.
At the end of the Middle Kingdom, Queen Sobekneferu dies childless and the two subsequent very short dynasties (13 & 14) cannot control Egypt as a whole. This allows the Hyksos to get in and rule for about 150 years and we call this the Second Intermediate Period. As far as I can tell, aside from moving the Capital city about, their rule is fairly standard in that government continues to function as it always has done. They're ruling over about 3 million people in Egypt in total, which is a 3rd of the population of London now. Things don't have to change that much.
The Hyksos are driven from Egypt, Egyptian Kings are restored to the throne with Ahmose I, and the New Kingdom begins. Ahmose I is later deified at Deir el Medina, and this starts a trend of Kings claiming divine intervention in their birth/parentage, rather than 'the gods sent me'. Most of them will have things like 'Amun worked through my father to divinely impregnate my mother, and thus both he and my kingly father are my fathers'. The one who really drives this home is Hatshepsut, but that's because there's a whole lot of political issues during her reign so she's hammering home her divine parentage. Doesn't make Amenhotep II destroy her monuments any less, though. Again, the ruling elite remain as they ever were, just with more governors as Egypt established itself. Then you get the Amarna period within the New Kingdom, where Akhenaten keeps the same council of men, but says bye bye to the Priesthood. This is a chaotic period to put it mildly and he changes it from 'Amun is my dad' to 'the literal Sun is my dad'. Anyway, the result of this is people not really trusting the King to do his religious job anymore, so they start worshipping the main pantheon at home rather than letting the king and priests do it as it had been before. After this it all gets put back to the way it was, but there's a lot of political infighting, and eventually a general, Horemheb, takes the throne. Things continue to work as they always have done, and then you get Ramesses II.

Ramesses II, like Pepi II, lives a long time. Into his 90s, in fact. He has so many children that we're still excavating the tomb of his sons (KV5) and many of them died before him. This meant that by the time he did die it was his 13th son, Merenptah, that succeeded him and he was already pretty old, as were his children. So you get a scenario wherein kings are dying every 5-10 years. While their mode of government functions essentially the same as it always has, the propagandistic image the king puts out falters heavily. People loose faith in their government, the government struggles to function, chaos and famine happen, and basically everything goes to shit. What you get by the end of the New Kingdom is civil unrest and political chaos. No one believes in the power of the King anymore and it shows on a society level (this is where you get Tomb Robbery and plots against the king).
After this you get the Third Intermediate Period, the Late Period, then the Ptolemaic and Roman Periods. These are periods of significant change, when it is mostly foreign rulers that are in charge of Egypt, thus bringing about massive cultural and social change. I can't speak much for the functioning of Kingship in these time periods as we've moved beyond my secure knowledge base. It's the same, but also very different due to aforementioned changes.

if i wanted to i could make a whole analisys of Setsuna's outfits (because I actually believe they're mostly intentional in how they look and their relation to Setsuna's character). I will not do that but i think her post-redemption aesthetic is actually so interesting
Because the obvious choice of clothing for a character post-redemption is to give them a color palette that is lighter than what it used to be, yet for setsuna Fresh chose to, rather than keep up the fake Setsuna personality that was curated to befriend Love, lean into the Eas side of things a bit more. This makes more sense if you assume that Eas, Wester and Souler had some imput in what they wanted for their outfits to look like (since they're different from the usual Labyrinth uniform).
pre-redemption Setsuna outfits include both white and red, if i remember correctly black (or any darker color) is pretty much nonexistent in them. the opposite for her post-redemption, post-redemption Setsuna is actually more into darker clothes and, dare I say, more of an alt clothing style (the leather jacket adds a lot to that). it sticks out from Love, Miki and Bukki but that's kind of the point. she can be a Cure but she doesn't have to suddenly abandon her identity as Eas.
it's also fun because you can compare Cure Passion's outfit to Eas's outfit and it derives so much from it + it has an inverted color palette (main color red, black accent color, instead of main black, accent red) which
1. this is different from the other Fresh cures since for them it works as main color + same accent color just different shade (making their outfits much lighter in comparison to Passion)
2. accentuates Setsuna's past as Eas instead of ignoring it which makes so much sense considering Setsuna still feels tied to Labyrinth

Despite the fearsome look of his Transmetal 2 Beast Mode, Joltfang is still a young bot who is intent on being liked by the other Maximals, though some are put off by his enthusiasm along with his 'class clown' act.
Don't let his personality fool you though - he's a highly skilled combatant whose expert knowledge of 'practical physics' makes him a very dangerous foe to face on the battlefield, at range and up-close.
Alt-form - Hyena.
Had a lot of wrestling with the color palette on this - the hot pink/red came in relatively early while the copper was one of the last things that came together for Joltfang (who's a Transformers alt-form of another Jumpchain OC, Shumari, I have who hasn't seen a lot of public light beyond a few offhand lines in some of the writing and two rough arts from almost 5 years ago posted on this very blog). He should get to show up more since I've been working on his design lately but it's been a pretty long absence for him.
Also, like Manticon-4, Joltfang also gets a kludged tech spec card (primarily Lockjaw's, given that Joltfang is based on his toy) but with a few unique traits mixed in, like a stronger intelligence + Metallikato proficiency, both suggested by @poisonbat.
And the reason why Joltfang's tech spec card isn't damaged or anything is because...
1) all of the text fit on there comfortably and didn't need obscuring, thus saving me that work.
2) Joltfang is a good contentious conscientious son-boy who doesn't try to eat random objects.

Sense I'm starting to work on the "Space Time Continuum" au as of now(and posting the work on the alt that I reblogged about in my last post), here's what each species' "themes" are supposed to be.
Robloxian: Science themed, with each one being some kind of scientist unless there's something else that dictates otherwise. Like Wiscara being able to teleport giving her a wormhole theme, Artrist using cloud magic which gives him a nebula theme, or Tess Aract with his connections to immortals like Scriptless and Duskkar making making him more of a scholar than a scientist technically and into the opposite of Scriptless.
Torchkins: Meteor and/or shooting star themed, because fire.
Harmonians:Time/clock themed, usually having a clock(like Base Cleph's shattered right eye) or some kind of device that's used for time(like the metronome Sharp and Flat have on their back and chest respectfully), somewhere on their body. Unless they're a fallen harmonian, which they are scientist themed, since the space theme and time theme cancels each I out.
Crevons:Spaced themed. More specifically they can be planets, stars(not dying stars)/consolations/zodiac signs(for example Discord being Aries and Chortus & Lestro being Pisces), galaxies/solar systems (like Tretone and the planets that are in the hole of his core and what orbits around him), and moons.
Cumulus: Nebula/Nebula cloud themed
Eyeclops(/Eyeheads): dimension themed. With the ability to switch between the dimensions 0D to 4D, being pretty much invisible in both 0D and 4D. With some prefering one dimension over the other. Basically inspired by how we as humans with our naked eyes can see from 1D to 3D, and how some people prefer 2D over 3D or 3D over 2D
Pumpkinheads: big bang themed. Having their heads and bodies cracked due to the universes in them constantly expanding and compressing.
Eggheads: dying star/super nova themed. Similar to pumpkinheads, Eggheads are cracked due to them turning from red super giants to super novas randomly. Especially during extreme emotions.
(and since I am using OCs and a fan subspecies of mine for this au[like most aus of mine, because I personally feel like more named characters makes a world feel more full and alive, not to mention funner, to me even if some or most of the named characters aren't used that much] I'll add my fan species)
Paintionians: Dark matter themed. Having dark matter instead of paint on their brush head hair and sporting a mostly grey scale/desaturated color palette similar to a Harmonian. Big dripping-up pure black eyes are a staple in this version of this species.

saki: i really like her from tokyo alt vocal :') it's so cute... and that song is just so Her!!!! i can't really think of any other saki alt vocals i'd like in the future though
honami: TALE OF THE DEEP SEA LILY. GOD. i really love her shinpakusuu#0822 alt vocal too... her voice is soooo pretty. i want a honami lost and found alt vocal. i would tentatively accept an ichihona duet for that but i'd prefer to hear them sing it solo i think.. the WALL is a song that needs multiple people singing for it to have full impact, so i think a honashiho duet for that could be fun!!
shiho: oh my god either voices or pulse of the meteor. both of them make me want to punch holes in my walls like they're So. GOOD. i also like her bokura mada underground and from tokyo alts :) for future alt vocals... see above but also maybe an attract light solo for her too? she like. has the perfect voice for covering *luna's music
minori: i think i like her happy synthesizer duet with haruka a lot :) but her vampire solo is super cute too... either one of those. i can't think of any other alt vocals i'd like with her 💔 a solo for booo! might be fun? or maybe it can be a duet with airi or haruka... the pastabilities. OH WAIT maybe a melty land nightmare solo??? i do like the full mmj cover but because all four of them are singing the original tune is kind of lost because they had to lower the whole song's pitch. but the original pitch is right in minori's range so... so....
haruka: easy. chikyuu saigo no kokuhaku o. it's fucking beautiful. i'm Completely at a loss for any future alt vocals though like they've kind of already added everything i would have wanted djakgnbknbkdfn
airi: icedrop :) i love that song so much just in general.. really like the shizuai karakuri pierrot duet too. an airi alt vocal for melty land nightmare might be nice too!! she has that higher range. also since minoharu got to cover lonely universe i want a shizuai alt vocal. just for fun. i think that song is basically made for minori and haruka to sing together but shizuku and airi might be able to pull it off too......
shizuku: milk crown on sonechka or into the night. i hope i die. best singer in the game. her romeo and cinderella alt vocal is interesting like the contrast between the softness of her voice and the guitar and drums...? it works strangely well. also if she doesn't get a watashi wa, watashitachi wa alt vocal in the future i will. turn into a beast idk
kohane: her awake now alt is fun! uh. idk unfortunately they haven't really given her any solo alts for the vbs songs that i.. actually like... that being said i loooove the akikoha children record duet <3 i want more akikoha duets their voices work really well together and it's not utilized nearly as often as it should be!!!! maybe a hitsuji ga ippiki akikoha duet. that might work. although i would like to hear kohane perform that song by herself 🤔 also while i'm here on vbs something that i really want for them in general is like. each of the akitoya duets to be covered by anhane and vice versa. or give antoya and akikoha more limelight by giving them alt vocals on the akitoya/anhane duets but i think that one's a little unlikely given colorful palette's track record so i'd settle for them swapping. like i want to hear anhane cover doctor=funk beat. come on that would be fun. i don't think toya and akito would do well with like. just be friends or imperial girl. but it'd be funny at least. (i think they could pull off pheles though)
an: MACHI IS MY FAVORITE i love her machi solo so much it makes me want to cry. auhghhhhh an..... she kinda kicked ass with alter ego too though. i would loooooove a pheles alt... also hitsuji ga ippiki again

nene: KAMI NO MANIMANI 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 LIKE. the minute i learned that wxs covered that song i was like "wow i wish there was a nene alt vocal for this" and then THEY ACTUALLY CAME OUT WITH ONE... i lostmy mind that day. anyway i'm fed forever as far as nene alt vocals go that's all i wanted and i got it so agdkjfvbknlvdnfkjnfl
rui: as you like it!!!!! that song is so perfect for him in every way... if i didn't know better i'd assume it was a commission for a rui focus event tbh. nene's kami no manimani alt is superior but i really really really like rui's too <3 we don't talk about emu or tsukasa's. UM future alt vocals... hmm maybe one for what sort of ending are you wishing for?. the ending bit where he's the only one singing makes me emotional it's VERY pretty.. i'd like to hear what the rest of the song sounds like with just him singing
kanade: i will always prefer the kanamafu duet, but kanade's meru solo is lovely. very, very, very lovely... tricologe is nice too! i think i'd like an irony alt vocal for her someday :) samsa is a very punchy song and kanade's singing style is very whisper-y but i think tbh if they give her an alt vocal for it they'll let her seiyuu loose a little bit. just considering the event it was written for.
mafuyu: usseewa without a doubt. that is HIS song it was written for him (not really but it fits him to a very scary T). i really love his meru alt too. i just like meru in general it makes my heart ache (in a good way). i think he should get a non-breath oblige alt. i think he would kill it
ena: nomad or maybe mousou kanshou daishou renmei! not sure about alt vocals for her that don't already exist... maybe gehenna???
mizuki: i think. probably kanadetomosusora. she sounds so lovely there... i do really like her alts for charles, lower, and usseewa too though :) i'd like to hear her sing deichuu ni saku and also gehenna again by herself!!!!

i love pavitr and i wish he got more screen time he was so silly. beloved character. dear to me. i love his entire rant abt chai. that was so good.
and hobie!!!!!! silliest dude. love the anarchist brit. i love how he like kind of does fuck-all in almost every scene he is in yet simultaneously is the most chaotic dude in the room. respect. he is also very dear to me and i look forward to seeing more of his dimension in the next movie <3
gwen is so tgirl btw. like her entire dimension is mostly blue-pink-white and purples???? and in the entire conversation with her dad it's all blue-pink-white in the background??? and her entire "the people i love can only know half of me!" like ?!?!??! ? AND WHEN HE ACCEPTS HER THE ENTIRE SCENE TURNS ONLY WHITE AND PINK?????? i love her dearly. gwen deserves the world btw.
miles was !!! ough i love seeing his growth. going from being all cocky and confident to terrified of what's going to happen like. he's still a child even if he has to act as a grown up !!!! ough.
spot being the most cringefail wet pathetic villain and then going to actually being terrifying was one of the best villains yet btw like. he goes from the most wet and pathetic guy to actually downright terrifying and i love that for him. #growth.
ALSO MIGUEL. Miguel's motif reminds me a lot of Prowler's? like it lacks that sharp synth-y sound that Prowler has in his theme but the underlying sense of unease and danger is so similar. i think miguel is going to be a villain in the next movie tbh. he seems kind of... i dunno. like he's holding on too tightly and believes the only right way is his way?
anyway. loved seeing gwen assemble everyone in the end :) peter and mayday!!!! noir and peni !!!!!!! spiderham !!!!!! hobie and pavitr and spider-byte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's going to be so fun in the next movie i think. and god i look forward to seeing noir and peni again i ADORE them

ANYWAY GWEN. I love her she's my most specialest girl ever. T Gwen is so real I can't believe there are people denying it???? The color palette and the way she talks about herself. There's a fucking TRANS FLAG IN HER ROOM and people are like "um she can have that flag because she's an ally not because she is trans" and I'm like. Amount of cis people I've met with trans flags in their room = 0. There are people saying that it's because Peter was the trans guy which I mean yeah, would make sense, but why not both. both is good.
Anyway Gwen's world is def my favorite, I love the aquarelle texture and how it's the world in which the color affects the environment the most. My favorite scene is the one where she confronts her dad, the way you can see her hair turning pink and blue and how at the end all the colors become warmer and GHHHFRFHR I love her so much.
Anyway I have a lot of thoughts I'm going to scream and cry. I kinda want a spiderverse theme but there are so many good images, I don't know what to use

I don't know if this is okay but what designs did you hate in heroes. To me I agree with lachesis as to me she looks like an actual child. She isn't in her source material. I don't have any complaints on dancer lachesis. She looks smug and young but not a child kinda young more young adult. I dislike base lysithea as she looks too young like an actual child. The worst for me is Loyd as he looks like a drug addict.
It's fine anon ! Don't worry, the real problem with Heroes is that it's a different game from the other. I mean aside from the fact it has SO many character.
That is to say that not only the design differs greately between character but also the artstyle since IS hire diffrent artist to draw different heroes even sometimes from the same game. Hating a design and an artstyle are different tho.
A design is the outfit for the character and how it is designed. A charac design is the basic appeareance of the character such as skin color, hair color, eye color, basic stuff. And those things remains more or less consitent even when a different artist with a different artstyle draw this character.
For example, anon, your complain seems to actually rely more on you disliking the artstyle choosen for those Heroes rather then their design since the differences between them and their OG design is small. It's possible to like a design but dislike an artstyle and from what you say, it seems to be more the case.
In the case of Lachesis here are her sprite.
When you compare her first OG art to her Heroes sprite her outfit aren't that different, however the artstyle does maker her appear youger due to it being a moe artstyle. Moe artstyle like Mika Pikazo's for example, those artist are good at drawing young characters however all character seems younger then their age. For example; Lucky Star anime uses that style, and the character despite being 17, look like they are nine !! It's more evident when you compare the different art she has gotten, with her Resplendant looking like she is 12 whereas her ball alt look closer to her age, 15-16. It seems more like it's an evolution since Miwabe Sakura drew both her base buil and ball build, but they couldn't look more different !!
Lysthea's main artist for the base build also has that style, hence why comparing to Chinatsu Kurahana this Lysithea looks like she is.. ten.
Her artist, Yuichiro Enkyo seems to draw young character that way even though she is around the same age as Soleil and Selkie for whom they provided art as well, and they don't look that young.
As for Lloyd
His design isn't that different, however his artist drew him thinner, his cloack his lighter and the reason why he gives you those vibes as to comes from the coloring and the rendering. His artist Pikomaro didn't use that kind of palette on character like Wrys or Bridal Charloote tho, despite it being the same artist.
That's for it. I agree with you on the artstyle looking weird compared to the OG art, but the design are relatively the same. The artstyle was probably not best appropriate for them. I am fine with Llyod, but I agree that Raquesis and Lysithea looks too young.
When it comes to speak of Heroes though, I choose to speak of OG character because speaking of design, if I choose one specific heroes, this means it's their usual outfit I don't like and therfore it's more on the I dislike said unit outfit in their OG game category.
I can give you an example of a design I like but artstyle I dislike and one design I hate despite liking the artstyle.
For example, Respendlant Lucina's design. I like her outfit. But the artstyle is weird ? She looks like a toodler. Why did IS ask a moe artist to draw her when she is in her 19 in the main game ? Also, I am not a fan of the coloring in general.
And
An example of design I would hate are Loki and Seidr. Because their outfit makes 0 sense.
How does this makes sense ? The palette looks pretty but the composition of the outfit is weird ??? How is there any harmony in the composition because ... her pants reminds me of Olivia's and I didn't like her pants in her default outfit because of how ridiculous it looked. Even though Yoshiku has a pretty cute artstyle.

Please if you want to, do the Amity Arena Summer Beach outfits so we can talk about positive things too, because goddamn the atlas outfits. Jeepers.
Really, Amity Arena has outfits all across the board. Some are great, others are average, and then there’s some that are just trash. The Summer Beach outfits are actually pretty cute for the most part, and I really like them.
ALT
This is honestly really cute. I love the booty shorts, the tied shirt with the crop top underneath, even the sandals are adorable. It’s suitable for a beach outfit, it’s a Yang outfit without a doubt, and even the X octopuses are so adorable.
Even though she has very little of her colour on the outfit, which for a RWBY character is still a negative, it’s not a huge deal for an alternative outfit on a mobile game. The colouring is still nice together, and I like how she looks in red. It really suits her.
ALT
He looks so dumb and I love it. This is what Ironwood wears on the few holidays he allows for himself.
The Hawaiian shirt, the shorts, the little sandals, I love it. The blue of his shirt works with the red and green details, and the overall colour scheme is pretty coherent while still keeping to his established colour. It’s a cool colour palette, and his prosthetics being clear on show is nice to see so normalised. It’s also great for people like me to see how far his prosthetics go on his body.
Also his gun is a water gun and that’s great.
ALT
Nora’s is a bit more average for me. The pufferfish swimming cap is a little dumb for me, and the colours together is kinda gross looking. I really would’ve prepared pink and white together, at least keep to the established colour scheme with some nicer colours.
I love his little floaties. It’s such overkill and great for Neptune with his little fear of water. He’s safe from drowning.
I like that the red lifejacket is similar to his usual red jacket, and these colours work well with his bright blue hair and orange snorkel goggles. The only thing I’m not a fan on is the green on his swimsuit, it might work more with more blue, just to let the colour go through the outfit.
She is so adorable.
I love the swim shirt and shorts together, the red background works with the bright white emblems and white shorts, especially with the small red accents. With the shoes, it helps to keep her red throughout the outfit, especially without the red cape behind her.
I love the goggles on her head. The blue is nice contrast with the red, and works against the colour of her dark hair.
Adorable.
It’s a bit difficult to see with how she’s posed, but the swimsuit with the purple and white works with the black shorts, especially with her long black hair. The bow and it’s design works similarly as well, since the bright colours help the bow stand out against the black hair.
The goggles are a bit much in combination with the bow, either have the goggles or the bow, having both just clutters the top half.
This is such a cute design.
I love the hair changed into a ponytail over the shoulder, and the straw hat is such a cute accent for her. She looks like the type to carry a big bag of everything to the beach, especially sunscreen. Atlas doesn’t get sun.
The blue dress is such a cute design, and the gradient to lighter blue and white is so pretty. It contrasts with her pale skin, and while I’d like some more white to show through, I do think this blue is very pretty.
Sun is the perfect dude for a beach outfit. He looks so cute.
It’s a very casual wear, and the blue looks so good with the yellow of his hair and the white of his hat, it fits with his established colour scheme and fashion. The little waves on his shorts are cute and add a bit of details to the little clothing he has.
Plus, I think his eyes are black like they were originally, which I appreciate. It’s very neutral with his otherwise bright colour scheme.
Her skin is so desaturated. Ashy crocodile.
The skin tone aside, it’s a cute outfit otherwise. The green and black work well together, especially with her desaturated skin. I love the tock on her shorts and little decal on her chest, and the sunglasses on her head are cute.

i have actually received TWO of these, but not entirely sure how i wanted to answer it with. XD but uhm... i'll try! this is in no particular order btw...
1)
the current theme for this blog! i dunno how many ppl bother looking at the web themes anymore. but i'm still very proud of this. i dunno why! it's simpler than what i usually do. but it's so pleasing to look at. it's not as tackled down with PSDs as my older graphics used to be, and it made me realize not every RP graphic has to be deepfried to look good. i also like how the colors look on it, too. it came out rly nice, and sometimes i just like to look at it to admire the work. also jin's TK8 design goes well with DJ's TK7 design because they both have the same color palettes (white, red, and black)

this piece of art is nearly 4 years old, but yet it's still one of my most favorite arts i've ever drawn. it's of an older muse of mine, bill dickey from the eltingville club! (a very obscure comic and a pilot from adult swim that never picked up. i wouldn't be surprised if y'all don't know him sdjfndsfjndsf) for some reason, despite being from a very obscure ip - i had quite a few followers and attention on that blog. from time to time, i do miss him!

another old muse,,, haha,,,,, this one's from 3 years ago! which is a revenant design of sub-zero / kuai for MK11. bc i was kinda let down we never got a revenant alt skin for him in that game. i'm really proud of this design i've made for him! in fact, it may be my favorite fan design i've ever made.

and i guess last i'll this gif set! just 'cos i'm often not happy with my gifs i make - despite the fact i make many, and have been making many for years. i just always feel the colors look off, or their quality sucks. these actually look really nice, not fuzzy, clear and crisp with vibrant colors. the gif set just looks awesome in general.
as a writer, i probs should've put an exerpt of something from my writing. but honestly... surprisingly, my writing is what i'm most insecure about. and really? i'm not too proud of most of it. i always feel my writing is too clunky, and not paced well - also, sometimes i feel it's a bit disinteresting.

It Was Not Juston Time
Hey there, grease traps. Half into our foray through Avengers Arena at this point, eh? I'd say it's gonna get worse before it gets better, but... it's not gonna get better. Trust me on this~
Here's the cover:
At least we're finally getting some decent sorts of covers. You know, ones that are actually symbolic and representative of their contents and story. Stuff that actually says something about the series and issue you're about to read. This is pretty representative of Apex and her manipulations throughout the series. I don't personally care for the minimal colour palette, but it is nonetheless eyecatching. And it's not a reference to something I haven't seen or read, so that's a plus in my book. I feel like that first batch of covers were commissioned when they just had the story concept, before the plot was being written.
So, last time, in the wake of Kid Briton's death, the assembled teens finally started working out their problems and not killing each other. At least until Juston turned out to still be alive and opted to take revenge on Apex and Deathlocket for wrecking his Sentinel pal. Also, Apex turns out to have an alt mode of some guy named Tim, and that's gotta be an interesting story. And Chase goes public as Darkhawk, which is sure to cause some ripples as well. All the problems will surely be resolved in a calm and narratively satisfying way! And if you believe that, I've got nine more issues after this one to sell you~
We start with some narration from Tim, which is nice, because he's the one we're most curious about. He monologues about how he's always been told he's a "peacemaker" or "people pleaser", and Peacemaker isn't even the right comic publisher, so that can't be true. But it's because he hates confrontation, and that much is at least relatable. Makes sense, though, when he has to put up with his sister, Apex. Like, this whole fight scene happening right now? Classic Apex, according to him. She lives for conflict, which only turns out good for her.
Juston blasts Chase back down, and while Nico and Cammi help him up, they also demand to know why he's suddenly Darkhawk now. X-23 tries to stand in the way, but this is, after all, a Sentinel and she's a mutant. It's kinda what they were designed to take out. Fortunately for both of them, Deathlocket puts a reassuring hand on Tim's shoulder, and he reservedly does what he has to do: float over to the group and unleash a burst of blue energy from his body, knocking down all of them and shorting out their powers and/or robots.
But just because powers have been diffused doesn't mean tensions have, and Juston is still gearing for Apex's blood. Chase points out that Apex isn't here right now, and while he might just be speaking on what he can see, I'm still gonna give him credit for open-mindedness. I've met a few folks who have alters, though I don't think any of them can shapeshift like Tim and Apex can. That's basically what it boils down to, once he gets everyone to stop chomping at the bit so he can explain: he and his sister are twins, but they share a body. They even change physical characteristics depending which one is in control.
He explains further than they ended up this way due to genetic experimentation. Their parents had been aiming for superbabies, and didn't quite get what they'd been hoping for. But the kids at least got some technopathic abilities out of it, in addition to their shared living situation. Until about two years ago, they'd swap every 24 hours, and their parents homeschooled them. Apex didn't like this arrangement and began to act out. This lasted for a lot of her childhood, wrecking all the electronics and terrorising the house staff. Because of course they're rich.
Eventually, Apex grew out of it. She became quiet and would study on her own. Everyone felt like this was probably a good thing--until the day of the accident. There was a car wreck, and while Tim had been the one in the wreck, Apex is the one who came out. See, what she'd been studying was practicing banishing her alter. She learned how to surpress Tim and be the only one in control. That's probably not healthy, but everyone else got what they wanted: Apex got her freedom, and her parents got a "normal" child they didn't have to keep at home. For them, Tim was dead.
So that's basically it. Tim's been stuck in silent prison inside his sister's head for the last two years, which is why none of her fellow Braddock Academy mates had any idea about this. The technopathy also explains how she's able to manipulate Deathlocket. But anyway, the recent way they outsmarted Apex and stunned her at her own game, this was enough to shake her control and let Tim out for a bit, and he's thankful. But of course, the big question now is... What do they do with him? What happens if Apex switches back? Should they let him go? Can they?
And so they vote. Chase, Juston, and Nara all are in favour of killing Tim. Nico, Cammi, Cullen, Anachronism, and X-23 are against. (Deathlocket doesn't get a vote, I guess.) And while I'm disappointed Chase would vote that way, he's also not wrong. Tim is basically a ticking time bomb, and Apex is not gonna be so pleasant. But, as the others point out, there are different kinds of "wrong". And while Chase's opinion makes sense strategically, if they play it that way... Well, what really makes them any different than Apex at that point.
Chase continues to argue his point, until Nico finally snaps and uses the Staff of One to banish him from the group. He's been keeping secrets--like the whole Darkhawk thing--and his impulsiveness is just not something the group needs. So he's out. Nico offers to take watch for the group that night, and they leave her to it. Well, comic, you already annoyed me by getting the Runaways involved in this dreck to begin with. Now you've annoyed me further by splitting them up. I'm just glad they're the only two included. Imagine how much worse it'd be if Molly was roped into this story.
Meanwhile, Tim's over with Deathlocket while this is going on. He's coaching her on how to interface with her cybernetic components. While she's able to walk around and stuff, she doesn't really have access to her own weapon systems and the like. But who better to show someone how to work with unfamiliar stuff in their own head than an alter and a technopath? And with some guidance, she's able to "feel" out and use her own arm cannon. She excitedly gives him a hug, and it looks like it's gonna be an almost kiss, but they get shy when Nico spots them.
Nico gives them a go-ahead and turns away to keep watch, kinda smiling at something almost like romance blossoming. Deathlocket wants to try again, and Tim leans against a rock for a moment. Locket asks what to do next, and ...Apex straightens up, instructing her to switch off her brain and give her control. She knocks Nico out from behind, wanders over and snaps Juston's neck, killing him and taking control of the Sentinel. She rockets away with Deathlocket in tow, while Tim returns to monologuing. He admits he's responsible for everything she does, because he's a coward who wants to live, even if behind the eyes of a monster.
Oof. Sheesh. Blah.
I told you it was going to get worse before it got better. I mentioned before, I stopped following this after issue 6, but I did hear about Juston’s death through the grapevine back in the day. And you know what I did? I didn’t go on to hate-read this piece of crap, that’s for sure. Instead, I went out and I bought all three digest volumes of Juston’s Sentinel solo series. I can see them on my shelf right where I’m sitting, between Gold Digger and all the Adventure Time graphic novels. And I think that was the right call. I spent my money to celebrate his life, not wallow in his death. We should strive to do the same in any situation.
Now, actually having read this for the first time, I don’t think this issue is entirely without merit. Oh, I very much dislike it, don’t get me wrong! Even Juston’s death aside, I also hate this direction with Chase, and especially expelling him from the group. But...! While I don’t like that it was Chase that suggested it, I do think the points he brought up were valid ones. It is a difficult topic, and it has often come up in superhero debates (especially with Batman). Personally, I do not like when superheroes kill. For any reason. Superheroes are someone we should look up to. And I think I should especially say teenage superheroes shouldn’t kill. That’s some soul-staining stuff. Note how X-23, a character who has canonically killed, votes on the side of sparing his life. She knows. And I think that is good writing. Tim’s own dilemma is also a topic worthy of exploration. Very existential. But all the rest? Nah. No thanks. I think we could’ve gotten all of this without needing to needlessly murder Juston. Notice how Apex didn’t kill Nico, just knocked her out. But went out of her way to murder Juston. And that is what I hate about this series.
