Why isn't Guardian more popular?
Is it because it's in a "modern" setting? Someone did recommend it to me a while ago but I never got around to watching it. Now was the time to watch it to get my mind off everything (or else I would go insane from depression)
All in all it was a really comfortable watch. I loved Bai Yu's acting and I think it was the reason I continued watching through the first few episodes.
I really liked Shen Wei's and Yunlan's romance so much not only because they're "equals": Very smart and established individually in their respective careers, but maybe also because the actors were in their late 20's-early 30's and that made my mind go "domestic bliss" "husbands". They liked each other from the get go and it was so obvious I didn't even mind the yearning part (normally it would make me very anxious)
Big fan of reincarnation plot devices no matter how cliché. So that checks out too.
I was disappointed at the lack of fan work and videos on Youtube I honesty could not think of a single reason why it doesn't get the love dramas like The Untamed get.

dear miss himekaidou,
i unfortunately have not been employed. so, i’ve been working on a few journalist articles, mostly as practice for my skills in case i ever decide to go into the practice and im worried that the articles i’ve been making aren’t of high quality.
how do you manage? i know such insecurities might be common in a profession such as yours, so…. any advice?
yours, eientei’s favorite kon-consultant
"Trust me, to start off- a great journalist is one that already is thinking about the quality of their work and doesn't shut their brain off for ideas. So I think you're off to a good start! It's hard, because while it's a job- you aren't gonna like, be able to push for the great caste system revolution-  I mean hard-hitting journalism all of the time. Sometimes you're gonna get stuck with 'Pick your favourite wagashi and we'll tell you your personality!'" "Buuut, I think there's something to learn from each article you write- even if you scrap them, you need only look. For example, I- loathe as I am to say it- did do such pitiful writing as that article- but the person that requested it also offered a coupon for a senbei stand… 'Dorayaki lovers are hot headed and there's more to them that meets the eye- but they can get caught up in their own world, so they should try some senbei!' 'Senbei lovers go with the flow, but don't pursue their own wants, so they should buy some more senbei!' I'm kinda curious, if I ran that article a week later, would I get a different result? There's a buncha conclusions and thoughts you could ask about the journalism even in such a 'low-quality' article."
Tumblr media
"I've been talking with that outside world human, and everything down to 'memes' and 'tagging systems' can show different sides of a story and the intentions of an article. Liiiike, there was this one time this crazy village man, Yoshimoto- he started raving about 'how there was some chemical the yamawaro were putting to turn the frogs into youkai'- and some newbie that wanted a week off just handed him a typewriter for him to start his rantings. But then when I actually used my thoughtography to check that river…well, he wasn't wrong? Sorta. The frogs were having extra legs- but when I wanted to write about it, up top said 'It's already been covered'. But it hadn't been. Not properly." "So how could I word it? I mean, 'Yamawaro machinery production found to have linkage in extra limbage of amphibian population'- bo~ring! What about '3 ramblings of Yoshimoto- Number 3 is suprisingly true!' and I slap a couple memes on it? Would that draw eyes? Is Yoshimoto actually concerned, or was this coverage intentionally from a crazy old geezer to discredit a potential problem?"
Tumblr media
"These are like, the hard stuff that comes with our industry- especially if you don't get the freedom to go independent. But I know that by asking, you're off to a great start. You have to be asking questions, every time- how can I see this differently? How can I write this differently? How are -other- people writing stuff differently? What's language that's 'hip', what language is alienating? Seriously, can Aya stop using red circles and arrows in her articles like [Mii]Tube thumbnails?!"
Tumblr media
"Not everything is gonna be a magnum opus, and not every wagashi listicle is gonna be the lynchpin into your socialist uprising theory deprogramming toolkit- and that's okay. As long as you put questioning and engagement- actual encouragement of media literacy- at the forefront of your own work and viewership, I think that's more work than a lot of other grifter sheeple are doing. There's more than meets a camera's eye, and as long as you keep collecting, I know you'll become someone that will paint a better landscape for Gensokyou- so get your brush, and crow all you want, mmkay?"

no golden core transfer au but also wangxian getting together way earlier where they arrive to the war meeting all proper and bathed, looking like the young masters that they are, buy the silence in the tent is really uncomfortable and everyone are looking at them - actually, they're looking at their waist and wei wuxian is kinda afraid to look down, while lan wangji is just pretending to not noticing anything at all.
jiang cheng turns back, failing to hold back a snort and chifeng-zun looks like he's biting his lips to hold back a laugh, and lan xichen..... ah, lan wangji is feeling rather afraid now, his brother is smiling brightly and his eyes have this kind of twinkle he knows too well.
"wangji, wei-gongzi." the lan sect leader called, taking a step further "it's good to see you. although..." he looked down to his brother's waist with a chuckle "i don't think that's your sword, wangji."
panicking, wei wuxian looked down and saw that at his side it was suibian, but actually bichen, then he looked at lan wangji and saw suibian where bichen was supposed to be.
oh, no.
in their haste to get dressed again as quick and neat as possible as they were almost late to the important meet, they didn't realize that they grabbed the wrong sword before leaving wei wuxian's tent.
fumbling around, they changed the swords back to their rightfully owner before lan wangji coughed embarrassedly.
with a fake cough barely masking his laugh, nie mingjue caught their attention, "if we can start?"
"yES! of course!" exclaimed wei wuxian, his face pink with embarrassment, wincing when his voice came out louder than he expected.
lan xichen chuckled again and waved them closer to the table.

Guardian really set my expectations of "censored bl cdramas" and man that was a high bar and probably not fair of me to expect.
Guardian really opens with Zhao Yunlan asking Shen Wei "are you married? You're such a catch. Can I take you out to eat? Here's my number A-Lan call me" which like even on face value id say thats called flirting (unless I guess ur so straight Straight blinders on that 2 men have to physically fuck in front of u to consider something gay)
Then of course there's shen weis pining shit but like, that's not Hammer down obvious to I guess the most oblivious person in denial
But Zhu Hong saying she likes Zhao Yunlan, Zhao Yunlan repeatedly refusing her and feeling bad about it, Zhu Hong repeatedly acknowledging he picked SHEN WEI over her (making it fairly clear it was a romantic pick and she Lost it to a guy) and shen Wei, brick that he can be at times, tells her it will only take a few years for the feelings to fade when she'll get over Zhao yunlan. The guy in love with him, instead of her. Yeah shen wei, she's definitely not wishing she could stab you for that insensitive remark. But she's too good of a person to.
Which. I'd say the above two points establish fairly overtly that: Zhao Yunlan is into men, that his colleagues assume he's also into women (if Zhu Hong thinks she has a chance), and that Shen Wei is Zhao Yunlans romantic pick. So Shen Weis sexuality? Well he doesn't dispute being Zhao Yunlans romantic pick, and Lin Jing assumes they're lovers with dialogue (yes he's saying opposite day stuff but his opposite day is just not being a liar and spy). So Shen Weis sexuality includes Zhao Yunlan.
And so like that's just. Fairly overt explicit stuff about their relationship. There's also the "a very oblivious person could argue its only implied" flirting. (And everything going on with Lao Chu and Xiao Guo, the side couple... oh my heart ;-; when they almost froze... the family dinner at Xiao guos... Lao chu admiring how kind Xiao Guo is, scaring him trying to say he's a cannibal and Xiao Guo not running away)
There's the coat sharing macho trying to be the man helping the damsel both of those fuckers do galore, shen wei moving in across the hall (which is either stalker or deeply in love or - as is true, both), shen wei implicitly moving in (this one's vague ill admit to be fair), the fucking "You're good with your hands" line from Zhao yunlan which is absolutely a porn line, every villain in the show viscerally aware Zhao Yunlan is who Shen Wei wants to protect, Ye Zun pretending to be Shen Wei by calling Zhao Yunlan cute names and asking if his outfit looks nice (and all of That), Zhao yunlans romantic ass hit me through the heart line of "if you're trouble I want a lifetime of you" at the wedding (not ever over it), the fucking lollipop scene in ye old haixing. Just a bunch of flirty type scenes, romantic tropes galore. And that's not even covering the actual genuine subtext of ALL the cases paralleling how shen wei and/or how Zhao yunlan feel implicitly (which are just subtext to be fair... how shen wei thinks he lost kunlun, how Zhao yunlan ISNT him so it hurts he's a stranger or he IS in which case he's a liar and shen weis grieving, the case where a dixingren and human love each other and Zhao yunlan notices he wants to be close to shen wei even though shen weis lying etc).
Like. They felt as canon as Tara X Willow in Buffy. Or at least as much as Xena x Gabrielle, the center relationship of the show where all stories of the episodes are always at least in some way about them.

If it’s not too late/you feel like it, maybe “shh, c’mere” for zukka? Because the only thing Zuko’s worse at than showing emotions (other than anger) is being comforted because of said emotions (at least in my brain haha) also ik I said this in tags but I absolutely adored your Ty Lee suki ficlet with the crystals it hugs my heart ;-; she’s protecting her friends
。゜゜(´O`) ゜゜。
For this prompt game!
“—and the utter gall of them to suggest—”
“Uh huh,” Sokka says, tugging Zuko by the wrist around a clump of slow-moving market shoppers.
“—like I haven’t spent months on the proposal—”
“So much time,” Sokka assures him, taking a moment in the next intersection to orient himself against Caldera’s cratered rim before pulling Zuko left.
“—to just come in and in one meeting—”
“Ridiculous,” Sokka agrees, shooting a quick, apologetic smile to the person who gives him started, half-offended look.
“—think they know more than me—”
“You researched a lot,” Sokka sympathizes, dragging Zuko clear of the line at his favorite food stall, which he's regretfully going to have to come back to later when Zuko—
“I researched—Sei Zun research—we researched—"
—isn’t at risk of popping a vein. Or starting to spit rainbow sparks in public, which would really give them away. Going incognito and relying on people’s expectations of where a Fire Lord won’t be only goes so far.
“And you did a really good job of it,” Sokka soothes, picking up the pace a little as Zuko hisses out a curl of smoke through his teeth.
“To just eel swan in—”
Sokka lets out an audible sigh of relief as he sees the sign for their destination, hand-painted and cheerful, before clearing his throat and quickly offering, “So rude."
“—and imply that I don’t care enough about—”
“Sh, c’mere,” Sokka interrupts as he pushes into the curious crowd thronging the square, Zuko spitting himself to a stop and making a low, seething noise of outrage. “Don’t be like that,” Sokka huffs, rolling his eyes and tugging on his wrist again. “C’mere.”
Zuko gives him a sideways, nettled look, clearly annoyed at being managed. “What are you—” he cuts off as he finally swings his glare up to actually take in their surroundings. Sokka can see the moment he realizes where they are, his face going suddenly slack with shock, mouth working silently a moment before he finally whispers, disbelieving, “…The baby animal adoption drive?”
“Mhm,” Sokka says, breaking free of the crowd and turning to walk backward so he can get a nice, good look at Zuko taking it all in.
“The one we couldn’t make last year?” Zuko asks, dazed, stumbling along after Sokka.
“Mhm,” Sokka grins.
“And couldn’t make this year?”
“It rained last week,” Sokka reminds him. “They had to move it.”
“Oh,” Zuko says, with feeling, and Sokka doesn’t resist the urge to plant his feet and keep pulling, tugging him into his body so he can enjoy Zuko's closeness and also the dumbstruck look on his face.
“Yeah,” Sokka hums, dropping a light kiss onto Zuko’s lips and murmuring against his mouth, “Want to pet your feelings out?”
“Yes,” Zuko says, plowing forward through Sokka like that was all the permission he needed, face somewhere between determined and transfixed, and Sokka can't help but laugh before spinning to follow.
Sokka trails after at a more normal pace, grinning to see the tension melting out of Zuko’s body one kitten fawn and goat puppy—and inexplicably, a baby puma goat—at a time, until Zuko’s practically a boneless pile on the ground, baby animals crawling over him, head pillowed in Sokka’s lap.
“This was the best idea Aang’s ever had in his entire life,” Zuko mumbles into the side of the tiny kitten owl determinedly navigating his face.
“It was a pretty good one,” Sokka agrees, unable to do anything except smile at the sight. Spirits, he must look stupidly fond and sappy right now, but he can't seem to find it in himself to care about who might be seeing it.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me this was happening,” Zuko slurs, both hands focused on giving ear scritches, and Sokka pauses on the braid he’s working into Zuko’s hair.
“It worked out, though, right?” he checks, relaxing again when Zuko lets out a deep sound of contented agreement and after a long moment adding slow, like he’s drunk,
“You have work to do.”
“Eventually,” Sokka hums, perfectly content to be where he is for now.
“Poak and Sun Chen are waiting for a reply?”
“Hawks only go so fast, and they need to rest, too, love,” Sokka shrugs, searching around a moment before plopping another kitten fawn onto Zuko's chest. “It’s nothing that can’t wait a few hours,” he assures him.
And nothing worth missing the sight of this, for, of Zuko’s small, delighted smile up at him before he turns to coo at the new creature, everything else happily forgotten.

A ridiculously extensive critique and analysis of Sannyo Komakusa Touhou Lost Word art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the time has come to analyze and critique the Lost Word art for Sannyo Komakusa.
[This also gives me an excuse to show select angles from Lotus Eaters, her Alphes style art by Dairi, stuff like that ]
Love it or hate it, the Touhou lost word gacha game could potentially be someone's first introduction to a given touhou character, so it's important that character portraits leave a good first impression. So with that in mind, I'm gonna critique their art for the booker Touhou cutie that, honestly, just from her profession alone she deserves their utmost respect.
(I can only hope she pokes fun at gacha within a gacha game in the same way she pokes fun at gamblers within her gambling den)
I'm gonna be zooming in to each part of the outfit to discuss the benefits and downsides of each design choice. I'm gonna be comparing pieces to the Zun art or Lotus Eaters for references and also generally to showcase things for comparison.
Since it surrounds the whole design I think I'll need to mention the smoke dragon and pipe first. On the whole, it's cool, and her pipe does match her zun art. Unfortunately it covers up a lot of her outfit and pose. And lastly regarding this there is definitely one detail that's remarkably annoying.
The smoke isn't coming from the pipe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its just coming from around her feet
Tumblr media
but you will notice an important detail while looking her feet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she's got painted toenails like in Lotus Eaters.
Next, I will move up to her skirt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, it's a pretty good version of her skirt, it has a crease on the side thats catching a little too much light though. it's got the pretty pattern she has in her zun art, but they lowered her coat so it's all an even line of pattern. It even ends up lining up with her sleeve for some reason. It's pretty, but I think it makes the transition from her skirt to her top look a little more drastic, since there isn't a fresh line of coat pattern to break it up. Frankly, it just looks really cool as a long or mid length jacket like in Lotus Eaters and the Zun art instead of a big skirt length coat like they did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes, I realize Lotus Eaters doesn't feature color or her intricate coat pattern, [presumably since it'd be a nightmare to keep track of. Though I like to imagine it's just yet another outfit of hers]
but anyway, it at least demonstrates my point about a coat with a different length then her skirt creating a cool contrast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is the chest, first I must say her buttons and clothes look perfectly fine. Though they generally pin to the side in Lotus Eaters as well as in her Alphes style art by Dairi (Though these buttons do look like they are struggling)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are many different different ways people draw Sannyo's chest, but eventually they can be categorized a bit, because at some point there is a tempting result to what the size can make you want to do with her outfit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally, if someone wants to draw her breasts in a larger size, like in Lost Word, it makes it more difficult to draw her coat over her shoulders. The reason being that when you get into the much larger anime sizes, the cloth from a coat would start to just drape over the lower sections of her body from her breasts. So I think people try to avoid that in different ways, often she often ends up with her coat lowered and hanging loosely above her elbows, which can actually serve a double purpose and give her a ton of personality.
As an example here is some gorgeous art by "syuri22" I found here
Syuri22 even extended the line of her skirt up into a bow to make her breasts pop out a bit more, which was really clever.
sometimes fan artists part her coat around her breasts which is a clever way to have her coat over her shoulders without hanging over her breasts too, sometimes she tucks the coat under with her arms in a pose. Sometimes they have it drape a bit but ultimately return to her waist. My point is there are a lot of creative ways artist do it. To lostword's credit the way they did it does kinda accentuate her smug energy. Though adding it together with how thick and soft they made the hem of her coat does kinda make it look like she has a comfortable blanket draped over her.
Tumblr media
As for her face. It's good, of course. I mean it's Sannyo's face, hard to go wrong with that. It's got her cute bow. She's got a good expression mixing cute and smug energy. Her ponytail is looking good. No complaints there.
Tumblr media
looking at the art as a whole, it's fine. Sure, it looks more like she's wearing a blanket than a coat, but I guess it does make her look kinda soft and huggable. Oh, and I completely forgot to mention her fan is freaking massive. But She's ultimately got the right energy. Though I honestly think it would be better if she had her coat line up a bit less. The way her sleeves and coat and skirt all make an even arc along the design sound like a interesting idea, but it kinda makes her design have less interesting stuff going on.
I do prefer her Alphes style art by Dairi by quite a bit tbh
Tumblr media
Even still i hope some day they do her winter outfit, I'm curious what that would look like. it's actually got the fuzzy energy they were going for.

Why YOU should watch Legend of Lin Ye
If you're a SVSSS fan, here's a run-down:
Is Xian Zun Whitewashed Today? / Legend of Lin Ye is basically a Scum Villain's Self Saving System drama adaptation. A guy reads a webnovel, hates the ending and gets transported into the story to "fix" said ending. He becomes the story's "villain", aka an immortal master, who is also the main character's teacher. Oh, the main character is also a demon-thing. The guy gets points each time the MC falls more in love with him. LoLY (both seasons) is around 2.5 hours long in total.
Now that you've seen the summary, here are VISUALS where you can see the similarities:
(spoilers for both SVSSS and Legend of Lin Ye ahead)
I seem to have stumbled, half-naked, into your bed, oops!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Admiring him at the table.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Defending his student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Protecting his fellow sect leaders from his student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Binghe and A-Ye, that's it, that's the post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Getting lost in a new city and following someone around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hand-holding as they run away together <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS. ENOUGH SAID.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nooo Shizun, your hand is bleeding!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holding him as he (fake) dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Killing your own student! (real)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and MANY more! Yes, even the System is there, and she talks a lot more! Original A-Ye and Bingge both torture and kill their original teachers. A very weird attempt harem is also there, and, just like Binghe, A-Ye doesn't want it, either. The 5 (actually 2) year gap between Binghe falling into the abyss and meeting SQQ again is actually 10 YEARS! in Legend of Lin Ye (yes, A-Ye also falls into the abyss). A-Ye doesn't give Xian Zun his blood, but he does give him a BUNNY! S.A. is not a topic in LoLY. A-Ye is just as jealous as Binghe. Xian Zun is allowed to be a lot more OOC (there's also like a points shop). Xian Zun is not scared of A-Ye (A-Ye wishes he was, bc he annoys him lol). XZ & A-Ye don't get stuffed in a coffin, but they do get stuffed in a human-sized bird cage. XZ does, at one point, have a nightmare about original Wu Ye killing him. Xian Zun is pretty good at not self-destructing. Xian Zun and SQQ both have fans, yes.
That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to add more in the reblogs/tags/replies. I'll also reblog if I remember more things.
Hoping for season 3 ❤️

Ok managed to catch up on Cheating Detective Satori... surprisingly quickly! Was it as bad as I thought?
....I mean, not really but it's still not... the best. Full review under the keep reading tag. Huge spoilers for the manga, of course.
Ok so, for the first bit before Mizuchi's reveal was... honestly kinda bad, like, Satori could've just... solved the case at the mansion quicker if she just read Sakuya's mind and went "ah yes she had no motive but did it anyway she was possessed" because like, if Mizuchi had been pulling shit like that before in former Hell, shouldn't she have said something? That's kind of a problem in this manga, the characters who should be telling us something are just so "vaguey no explainey". And also, why the fuck wasn't she at the scene more often? Like, why wasn't she the one who interviewed Sakuya? Why Orin? Why does Satori barely show up in a manga called Cheating Detective Satori? I mean, I don't mind it as a narrative choice but with the title it just feels like false advertising at this point.
Overall, the first portion of the manga with the endless "but who's being possessed next?" is honesly kinda frustrating. Also, Reimu, you are literally a shrine maiden and you have experience with ghosts and the like, what's stopping you from using some kind of spiritual techniques to try and track Mizuchi down? Like, why?
And now for the somewhat controversial reveal of Mizuchi...and honestly? I'm fine with it not being Mima. Like, it would have contradicted with her character from the PC-98 games anyways, and also because MORE MIZUCHI PLEASE HOLY FUCKING SHIT HAVE I BEEN CONVERTED TO THE MIZUCHI ENJOYERS CLUB OH MY FUCKING GOD-
Yeah so Mizuchi is my diamond in the rough that is Cheating Detective Satori. I like her character a lot and the parts where she's in it are some of my favourite parts in the manga. However, I think her sudden escalations in power are... well a bit much to say the least? Like, in the Eientei arc they mention how "we don't really know how the jailbreak king posses people" and my first reaction was, "REIMU YOU HAVE SEEN NOT ONE, NOT TWO, BUT 4 PEOPLE GET PASS OUT AFTER DRINKING SOMETHING, MAYBE YOU COULD INFER THAT THIS JAILBREAK KING CAN ONLY GET TO YOU IF YOU DRINK SOMETHING AND SO YOU MAKE SURE NO ONE DRINKS ANYTHING EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE EXACT CAUSE OF IT-" which, I guess it was never really properly established but fine, it leads to a cool moment where Mokou gets possesed and all but still. Mizuchi doesn't really have any weaknesses and kinda gets more and more powerful as the manga goes on.
However, if ZUN plays his cards right this could turn into a good thing JUST HEAR ME OUT, PLEASE-
Ok so, before I read the manga I saw the idea that Okina had something to do with Mizuchi getting loose and I fucking love that idea. Mizuchi's rampage in Gensokyo being enabled by Okina (albeit unknowingly) could also help explain the sudden power ups she gets.
[EDIT]: Ok as I was still organizing my thoughts on the manga after this, I realized that the limitation of Mizuchi only being able to posses people who have a grudge on the Hakurei shrine is pretty smart and could be used for some good character conflicts. But I think this is something that's kind of underutilized in the actual manga, despite the fact that it maybe limits who Mizuchi can posses in Gensokyo.
Anyways, the manga is kind of just wallowing with the story, like, why did the protagonists just let Mizuchi get away into former Hell when they could've just... exterminated her then and there. Like, if you still wanted Mizuchi to get away somehow, you could just extend the fight to where Mizuchi swaps from body to body as she makes everyone fight each other for her, so that by the end, everyone is too exhausted to go after her. Other than that, I actually liked the Myouren Temple arc a lot. Like, it isn't perfect per say but I liked it the most. I also liked how in the most recent chapter, we (kind of) learn what Mizuchi's deal is, mainly that something about Gensokyo's creation royally screwed her over. I also think that the twist with her being a member of a family that served the Hakurei shrine was really cool too. I have always liked the idea of there being something darker going on behind Gensokyo's creation. I honest to god don't know how the fuck ZUN is gonna end the manga though. Like, I just wanna know how the hell things are gonna go now, especially with the sealing off of former Hell. Which, side note, but I love how pissed off Yuugi is in the most recent chapter, like, this is the second time now that someone who was meant to take care of the place just ended up ditching it. Of course she's gonna be mad. I'm not against the idea of Former Hell needing to be sealed up, it's just how it gets there that's kind of messy. Like, it's such a drastic decision that just feels to rash for Satori to make, especially considering the fact that Mizuchi was RIGHT FUCKING THERE I'M STILL PISSED OFF THAT THEY JUST LET HER GET AWAY LIKE THAT LIKE WHY?! I feel like that's where a lot of problems with this manga lie, a lot of really interesting plot points and events that are very messily connected.
[EDIT]: Ok so about that last point I missed something with the latest chapter and yeah, Satori planning on getting Reimu to confront Mizuchi personally is a good way narratively to recover from what would normally be something out of character for Satori (This whole post was made in a bit of a hurry after I finished the most recent chapter so the information still needs to set in my brain a little).
Now for my thoughts on the artstyle. I'll be honest, the early artstyle for the manga was really pretty, but didn't really work for a manga style story. It's really nice looking for illustrations, but other than that it's just kinda eh. The page layouts were kind of boring and I think that's what made the earlier chapters feel boring. It also somehow fucked up the way each character talked if that makes any sense??? Like, since there wasn't really much expression in the character's faces, they all kind of started to blend together, even with the dialogue they all felt like they thought and reacted in the exact same way. Not to mention Sakuya's STUPID RINKY DINK LITTLE MAID CROWN WHY IS IT VERTICAL- sorry had to go off on that tangent there, that's always bothered me.
However, the manga's new style is so much better oh my god. Like, everyone translated pretty well into the style, even if it is a teensy bit inconsistent. The page layouts were also really creative and made things a lot easier to read. It only got better as the manga went on too. Can I talk about how beautiful Yuugi looks? Ok so Yuugi looks fucking gorgeous in this manga, like, the artist clearly liked her the most because she just looks *muah* chef's kiss. Also, the fights in this manga are so well done, like, this is EXACTLY what I was missing in Lotus Eaters. Like, all the hits feel weighty and impactful, and not to mention how expressive the characters are. The newer style isn't afraid to give us some really fucking unhinged expressions and I LOVE THAT. It helped make the manga more tolerable.
I said in my review of Lotus Eaters that I would compare the two mangas in terms of writing styles so I'm gonna do that. Lotus Eaters represents a lot of ZUN's strengths in writing, i.e. shorter more character driven stories that wrap themselves up nicely in the end. I think this is probably because ZUN is more experienced with this style of writing, since from what I've gathered, a lot of the other mangas and literary works follow this similar principal. I feel like ZUN doesn't have trouble with writing good characters, but instead struggles with finding ways to make them act consistently throughout a longer narrative. Like, I feel like that's the best way to put it. I feel like a good way to rectify this issue for ZUN is if he tried writing more longer printed works (mainly just to get experience with the format) take what he learned from CDS and apply that.
IDK if I gave Lotus Eaters a rating but I'll do so for CDS. I'd say it's a 4.5/10 if we're being generous. It frustrated me to no end because of how many missed opportunities it had, and it had so much potential to be amazing, even though it has some good qualities that made the experience a bit less painful than what I was expecting. I mean, it's still ongoing so it could get better, but now I'm just more curious to see how it sticks the landing. My math question comparison that I made in my Lotus Eaters review still holds up tho lol.
I remember a post on here saying that JoJo Part 4 is basically just CDS but good. And honestly, now that I've actually read the manga I see what that person meant now lol.

So! Here's the plan. There are eight Zhu Yilong figures and nine boxes, each with some stickers and washi tape. The ninth box is just Nendoll accessories, but there's far more that will go to that buyer than is pictured--most of the accessories are at my mom's place, and I have to go get them. There's also the little catboy figure, which will be put in a box at random. Each box is $50 USD.
Shen Wei (The Guardian)
Ye Zun (The Guardian)
The Shaw Eleven Lang (?) sorry I'm not sure who this guy is!
Gongzi Jing (A Chinese Ghost Story)
Fu Hongxue (Border Town Prodigal)
Lian Chengbi (Treasure Riders)
Luo Fusheng (Granting You a Dreamlike Life)
Hua Wuxie (As Flowers Fade and Fly Across the Sky)
Msc. Nendoll Accessories box
At noon (Eastern daylight time, October 29 2022) I'm going to reblog this post with a link to a google form. The form has a spot for your username, a place to list where I can email a paypal invoice, and a spot to tell me which figures you are interested in. It also has a place to list a shipping address, which will make my life easier, but is not required to submit the form. ( I will, of course, eventually need that info if you do get one, but I understand that makes some people nervous.) It will be first-come first-serve; the first eight people will get the figures. I will keep the form open for a week or for however long it takes for all of them to sell. I'll let you know via email or tumblr messenger if you got one. If the paypal invoice isn't paid within a week of that, I'll just offer it to the next person in line. Any profit beyond costs of shipping is being donated to relief in Ukraine. I am willing to ship internationally, and cost of shipping is included in the $50. All boxes will go out at once.
Also, I should warn you: Ye Zun has a slightly flattened back of his head. I dunno what happened but it's not super noticeable.

Guardian (and adjacent) WIPs
These are literally the titles of the documents, and yes, I am definitely embarrassed about some of them.
To be edited
These are technically WIPs since they're not posted yet, but they just need a round of editing and podficcing and they're ready to post.

Luo Qingeng/Zhang Yuan sequel
WIPs
Guardian
<1k words
deaged SW, <1k, probably weilan and idk maybe twincest (we'll see)
Instead of trying Shen Wei to a pillar Ye Zun decides to turn him the same age(ish) they were when Ye Zun was taken by the rebel leader (see how SW likes being young and helpless and at someone else's mercy). Except then Ye Zun just can't resist tiny, worried gege with his big eyes and needs to protect him (also probably finds out what actually happened in the past, because to de-aged SW it happened recently).
arranged marriage yohe, <1k, weilan, lanzun
Zhao Yunlan ends up in YOHE and stumbles into an existing marriage agreement with the Black Cloaked Envoy… that then instead ends up in a marriage agreement with the Rebel Chief (Ye Zun at that point but they don't know that of course). Everyone is upset, but I guess Zhao Yunlan is doing it for peace and whatnot.
cuddle the enemy, <1k, weilan
AU where Dixing and Haixing are at war. There's peace talks and diplomatic teams and whatnot and Zhao Yunlan is very bored. He might want to cuddle Heipaoshi.
SW stalker, <1k, weilan,
Shen Wei somehow stumbles into Zhao Yunlan's existence years before he did in canon. And then starts stalkins Zhao Yunlan, of course Zhao Yunlan catches onto something at some point.
ZYL memory loss, <1k, weilan
Instead of time travel Zhao Yunlan is immortal and has amnesia. There are some issues here with some of the details, but lots of handwaving will make it work.
I just had a dream, <1k, weilan
Literally a dream I had where Shen Wei is some kind of god that happens to rescue Zhao Yunlan for some reason. And then keeps rescuing him. And Zhao Yunlan figures out that Shen Wei will show up if he's in danger so then he starts deliberately putting himself in danger. Shen Wei is not happy about it, but of course still keeps saving him.
Mass Effect xover?, <1k, weilan(zun?)
The Hallows throw the three of them off somewhere else somewhere around the show ending, because they somehow know the reapers are coming and someone needs to do something. Set somewhere around ME2.
amnesia au, <1k, weilan
Shen Wei doesn't remember being the Black Cloaked Envoy. He meets Zhao Yunlan earlier than canon, they get married, everyone's happy. The SID is pretty busy with no BCE around. And then something happens and Shen Wei starts remembering, slowly in bits and pieces that don't make any sense (alright, I admit I might have rewatched the Long Kiss Goodnight).
monster!ZYL... prequel? <1k, no weilan because it's before they meet
Musings on little monster Zhao Yunlan's life before he meets Shen Wei in a night club.
android au, <1k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan used to be Kunlun during a war or something, got deactivated, but somehow Shen Wei managed to save him, but he got sent off somewhere to be reprogrammed/memory wiped instead and Shen Wei has been trying to find him ever since.
AC crossover, <1k, weilan
Post-death Desmond meets Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan post-death. And then once Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan drag themselves back to the living (because post-canon fix-it of course) they take Desmond with them.
soulmate au writing, <1k, weilan
Soulmates can write on their own skin and it appears on the other one. Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are soulmates separated by time, but they can still write to each other (because of the Hallows somehow).
another soulmate thing, <1k, weilan(zun?)
Soulmate bonding between Dixingren and Haixingren always skews in favour of Dixingren because something about dark energy making the bond and it ends up with the Haixingren sort of subservient. It is somewhat public knowledge that Zhao Yunlan has the Black Cloaked Envoy's mark. He's sixteen when they bond and he… has expectations. Things turn out quite different.
serum time travel, <1k, weilan
The serum at the end of the show makes Zhao Yunlan travel in time, but he can't control it. Just jumping from one moment to another, never there long enough to do much. Eventually, should somehow end up in a fix-it.
wish, <1k, weilan
Someone makes a wish to change one thing and the world is suddenly entirely different. Things go very bad. But possibly a somewhat hopeful ending anyway.
android sci fi au, <1k, weilan
Really just an excuse to write a scene with Zhao Yunlan flirting with android!Shen Wei and some outsider being horrified/disapproving. Because androids, you know.
Shen Xi and Shen Wei, <1k, weilan
AU where Shen Wei and Shen Xi learn to know each other because the treaty says that her son and the Black Cloaked Envoy will be married and Shen Xi wants to meet this man. Zhao Xinci will just have to indulge her.
Parallel, <1k, weilan
Somehow post canon (fix-it) Zhao Yunlan ends up seeing a parallel timeline in glimpses. His mom is still alive there. Somehow the two timelines seem to be converging and Zhao Yunlan doesn't know which one he wants to be real, because he's never seen Shen Wei in those moments when he sees the other world.
this nice AU, <1k, weilan(zun?)
More or less canon setting, except nothing bad is going on and everyone is doing well and Shen Wei and Ye Zun get along just fine. And Ye Zun decides to pretend to be Shen Wei and go flirt with Zhao Yunlan because he wants to know more about this human that Shen Wei has been hung up on for ten thousand years.
amnesia, <1k, lanzun, weilan
Zhao Yunlan loses his memory when he's in Dixing to free Shen Wei from the pillar. And then Ye Zun finds him, and well, takes advantage.
time travel fix it - ye zun, <1k
post-canon Ye Zun ends up travelling back in time to fix thing, but it means he initially ends up back in the pillar.
Dance, dance, <1k, weilan
Alright this is novel verse and entirely ridiculous. There are videos somewhere on the internet about the 'dance' stoats do to confuse prey (or something, it's weird) and what if that's what Little Ghost King did when hunting?
so what happened in YOHE, <1k, weilanzun
Zhao Yunlan manages some last minute rescuing of Ye Zun while back in time and things go differently.
sequel - he had a name, <1k, weilanzun
Sequel to https://archiveofourown.org/works/26892040/chapters/65617987. Zhao Yunlan is in Dixing and they try to work things out.
cohabitation, <1k, weilanzun in some form
Ye Zun is stuck in the pillar and his body is gone, and he can't just make a new one. Wanting to help Ye Zun, and make up with him, Shen Wei offers to share his own body with Ye Zun.
surviving, <1k, weilan
Both Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei somehow live through the show end, but Shen Wei doesn't survive it well.
chronic pain, <1k, weilan
Post-canon fix-it, but Shen Wei is left with chronic pain and needs to learn to live with that.
arranged marriage, <1k, weilan
The Black Cloaked Envoy and Kunlun got married back in the day, and now with the anniversary of the Treaty signing coming up, they need to do a whole Black Cloaked Envoy getting married to a Haixingren thing again.
blind? <1k, weilan
A lot of Dixingren are born blind, Shen Wei happens to be one of them. Because of the whole living in darkness thing, which doesn't make as much sense for Shen Wei, but I'm going with that anyway.
tiny dragon, <1k, weilan, damian
One tiny dragon ficlet in the series that I started and haven't finished.
sequel? yohe, <1k, weilan
Another instalment in the time travel fix-it series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/2182137). This one deals with the YOHE issue.
sequel seeing shadows, <1k, weilan
(https://archiveofourown.org/works/42466083/chapters/106652535) Zhao Yunlan wakes up with amnesia, so the monster boyfriend is a bit surprising.
wants, <1k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan tries to get Shen Wei to express his wants, but Shen Wei doesn't actually know what they are
Hell, <1k, weilan
Masturbating creates a portal to hell. Shen Wei is a demon…
Shen Xi and Shen Wei, <1k, gen
The treaty says that Shen Xi's son and the Black Cloaked Envoy will be married and Shen Xi is going to meet this man no matter what.
1k-5k words
but winter, ~4k, weilan
Literally just "what if Guardian, but it's winter?" Things did start deviating from canon pretty fast though, so who knows where it's going.
Fringe AU, ~1k, weilan
Tries to fit the whole concept of Fringe (two universes, if they eventually smash together badness follows) with Guardian somehow. The Hallows have something to do with crossing universes, there's only one Zhao Yunlan and somehow he falls for the Shen Wei in both universes.
Somekind of eldritch AU? ~1k, weilan
Shen Wei is some kind of eldritch thing faking humanity for some reason, he went to jail a decade or so ago for a series of murders (actually committed by Ye Zun probably) and now Zhao Yunlan is investigating murders that are exactly like those ones…
AC fusion thing, ~1k, weilan
Assassin's Creed fusion with Zhao Yunlan stuck in the animus. He meets Shen Wei in his memories and then I just handwave everything AC tells us about how the animus works so I can make this weilan anyway. By Hallows magic somehow.
undercover cop au, ~1.3k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan is an undercover cop, Shen Wei is a lawyer for a criminal organisation. They end up fake dating because Shen Wei finds out about Zhao Yunlan and wants to help him for reasons he's not telling Zhao Yunlan.
dragon au, ~3.8k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan accidentally wakes up a sleeping dragon when he's a kid. And then at some point when he's all grown up he meets Shen Wei.
So like, SW and HPS different people, ~1.3k, okay probably some weird ot4
There's three brothers instead of two. Shen Wei is the normal brother. I'm pretty sure Zhao Yunlan falls for everyone.
DA fusion thing, ~1.1k, weilanzun
Dragon Age Inquisition-ish setting plot wise. Shen Wei and Ye Zun share a body (like an Anders-Justice type situation). I just wanted something where if they're in the Fade Shen Wei is suddenly Ye Zun instead. There's some plot and backstory, and trying to mash Hallows and other Guardian things into this setting. But the Shen Wei and Ye Zun situation is the most important thing.
da xover, ~1.4k, weilan
Portal accident somehow takes post-canon Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan physically into the Fade. And then… they get involved in the plot of DA:Inquisition.
Monsters in the jungle, ~2.8k, weilan
AU, explorer!ZYL gets dumped into the jungle to die, and gets found by Shen Wei, who is half snake apparently.
yohe sex injury, ~1k, weilan
Their first time having sex turns out a bit… much and Zhao Yunlan gets slightly injured. It's not really the first time that's happened (from Zhao Yunlan's perspective) and he doesn't think it's a big deal, Shen Wei can heal him and no harm done. Except Shen Wei hasn't learned healing yet, and he's a lot more horrified at hurting Kunlun.
fake dating, ~1.1k, weilan
Everyone keeps assuming Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing are dating, for some reason, Zhao Yunlan can't be bothered to correct them. When he meets a very attractive Professor Shen, Zhao Yunlan is suddenly worried that he'll think that too.
Untitled document, ~1k, weilan
AU, this is a bit confusing because I forgot the specifics of what this is about (learn to make notes, self). It starts out with Shen Wei and Ye Zun being separated because Shen Wei gets banished from Dixing because he disagrees with certain official policy. Haixingren are the result of Dixingren doing some kind of experimenting to make people better suited to life on the surface. Except things get out of hand and there's a rebellion and war. After he gets exiled to Haixing, Shen Wei meets Kunlun.
sw/zyl/hps, ~1.8k, weilan (I guess, what else would I call it?)
Shen Wei, despite seeming all kinds of suspicious and being in the wrong place at the wrong time actually is entirely normal human man. The Black Cloaked Envoy is the Black Cloaked Envoy (I might need to figure out if he still looks just like Shen Wei). Somehow, Zhao Yunlan manages to start a relationship with both.
marriage proposal celbrity au, ~2.6k, weilan
AU based on the trailer of some movie. Zhao yunlan is a celebrity of some kind, Shen Wei is University Professor that ends up entirely accidentally proposing to him during some public event (it was Cheng Xinyan's sign, he was just holding onto it, and it was a joke anyway) and Zhao Yunlan accepts for reasons, in public.
knitting, ~1.6k, background weilan probably
Post-canon fix-it and Ye Zun is supposed to find a nice calming hobby to keep himself occupied. Knitting is it. He forces gifts on people.
kidnapping, ~1.3k, weilan
After meeting Zhao Yunlan for the first time, Shen Wei gets his file, learns some things about Zhao Yunlan and decides the most sensible thing to do to keep him safe is to kidnap him.
bear, ~2.7k, weilan
At some point is the past Shen Wei somehow got stuck as a bear (a curse or something, a Dixing power?). Zhao Yunlan meets a bear, and is rightfully terrified. He doesn't know the bear is anything but a bear.
dragons. for fucks sake. I cry, ~2.7k, weilan
Shen Wei is a dragon and when he meets Zhao Yunlan for the first time in modern times he more or less drags Zhao Yunlan to watch some baby dragons hatch. Look, Kunlun had told him he'd be there for it, so Shen Wei just goes with it. He just forgets to actually tell Zhao Yunlan that they're actually also Zhao Yunlan's babies. Or, Zhao Yunlan acquires an instant dragon family.
mermaid love triangle in the forest, ~1.2k, weilanzun
Very random fantasy AU. Zhao Yunlan is some kind of errant hero, and there's monsters in the forest. Well, mermaids. In a forest. Thank you random prompt.
enemies to lovers, ~3k, weilan
An AU where the Dixing-Haixing relations are worse. Well, Zhao Yunlan assumes they're enemies, Shen Wei (who hasn't been able to move to Haixing in this AU) has never actually met the Chief of the SID and has no specific feelings about him, but this one seems… better from what he's heard. So, when Shen Wei sneaks his brother out of the pillar, he needs to take him somewhere, and the Chief of the SID seems like a very bad choice, but it's possibly also literally the only Haixingren Shen Wei knows about. If he won't help, Shen Wei will just make him help. He really just needs somewhere to hide for a while.
what do you mean by expected? ~2.6k, weilan
Some mpreg happens due to the whole Sundial healing thing.
space farming, ~2.6k, weilanzun
Scifi AU, Zhao Yunlan crashlands on what seems like an empty planet and then finds the twins just sitting there, leaning against each other and not moving in the middle of a field of oats.
Shen Wei is not a disney princess, ~3.3k, weilan
Shen Wei woke up from the nap and decided to go live alone in a cottage in the woods for reasons. There are animal friends.
daemon au, ~3.6k, weilan
Basically canon but with some daemon wordlbuilding.
another au, ~3k, weilan
Relatively close to show canon, but there's no Black Cloaked Envoy. The SID occasionally gets messages from Dixing telling them about some escapee. One day the rogue Dixingren they get information about is Shen Wei.
teaching cat, ~4.2k, weilan
Post-canon Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan (and Ye Zun) go on vacation. But Shen Wei has to do some remote teaching for a few days (Zhao Yunlan promises to set it up). During everything, Shen Wei gets turned into a cat and insists on teaching anyway, as long as the students don't see him, it'll be fine or something, and Ye Zun steals a child (it's not stealing if the parents don't want her anyway, Ye Zun insists).
wolf cubs, ~1.8k, weilan(zun?)
Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing go hiking and run into a couple of wolf cubs. Well, the wolf cub finds them and takes them to its injured sibling, really. Somehow, Shen Wei got Ye Zun out of the pillar but things went a bit wrong and now they're in Haixing and stuck as tiny wolves.
hostile alien race? ~1.9k, weilan
Dixing is some semi-evil alien empire and Shen Wei's spaceship ends up boarding Haixing's first exploratory spaceship, captained by Zhao Yunlan.
chatfic, ~2.3k, weilan
AU where Dixing and Haixing are at war. Shen Wei gets captured, and tortured by Zhao Yunlan who doesn't know who he is yet, because time travel.
cyberpunk(ish) au, ~1.9k, weilan
Roughly canon adjacent, but Dixingren come with various cybernetic enhancements.
broken time, ~1.8k, weilanzun
At some point post-canon while Zhao Yunlan is hanging around not being alive, he somehow manages to time travel back to YOHE, and then decides fuck timelines and changes things. And the future, his own time, turns out very different.
neigbours, ~1k, weilan
Monster AU, Zhao Yunlan gets a new neighbour, and he seems a bit… off.
shen wei/zhao yunlan/ye zun???? ~1.4k, weilanzun
Post-canon. An ace Ye Zun tries to somehow fit into Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan's life, while being in turns jealous and angry at the other two.
the world never touched me, ~1.1k, weilan
An AU where Shen Wei is the murderer the SID is after.
assassin!au, I guess, ~4.4k, weilan
Assassin!Shen Wei gets hired to take out cop!Zhao Yunlan.
dark fic? ~1.2k, weilan
Basically just Shen Wei a little less worried about doing the right thing.
 hps dream thing, ~4.4k, weilan
Mostly canon-ish, but something where Shen Wei looks more alien/inhuman.
haunted house sequel, ~3.8k, background weilan, maybe Wang Zheng/Sang Zan
Wang Zheng gets murdered and then she's busy trying to solve her murder and trying to make the only colleague who might have any idea she's still around actually pay enough attention to actually notice her.
guo changcheng, ~3.3k, Guo Changcheng/Chu Nianzhi(/Chu Shuzhi)
A sidestory to Modern Times (https://archiveofourown.org/works/39748716). Guo Changcheng somehow is assigned as an aid to Haixing's ambassador to Dixing.
hive of two, ~2.2k, weilanzun
Scifi AU, Zhao Yunlan goes to check up on some reported anomaly that turns out to be a spaceship. The twins have at some point separated from a larger hive mind (something between Star Trek's Borg, and Marvel's Phalanx but with less malicious intent and more just… trying to learn the universe by assimilating it or something), and they're injured and not dealing all that well with being alone. Zhao Yunlan gets added to mini hive mind.
ye zun? ~1.2k, weilan
Another instalment in the time travel fix-it series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/2182137). Zhao Yunlan dealing with Ye Zun not being who he remembers from the other timeline.
Sequel - in the shadows, ~2k, weilan
Eventually Ye Zun/Zhao Xinci, navigating child care and trying to figure out family relationships when most of the family are eldritch beings and Zhao Yunlan is very human.
wind is cold, ~4.8k, weilan
Trying to figure out canon with a much darker Shen Wei.
the future, ~1.4k, weilan
Another part of teenage!Zhao Yunlan meets Shen Wei series (https://archiveofourown.org/series/1810891). Just weilan being weilan really, and maybe trying to save Dixing.
ot3 kissing, ~2.2k, weilanzun
Zhao Yunlan walks in on Ye Zun kissing Shen Wei (it's never happened before) and expects some kind of explanation
possession ZYL-KL, ~1k, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan+Kunlun(?)
Zhao Yunlan gets possessed by Kunlun
grooming, ~1.8k, weilan
The hair kind of grooming in YOHE
AC reincarnation ~2.5k, weilan
Assasin's Creed crossover. Zhao Yunlan gets reincarnated as Desmond. And then ends up seeing Shen Wei somewhere in those ancestral memories while he's in the Animus.
same, ~1.5k, weilanzun(?)
Shen Wei and Ye Zun are the same person, sort of. Except Ye Zun was the original personality that somehow (trauma and dark energy) got replaced by Shen Wei. Shen Wei doesn't know this and thinks all his memories of his didi are real. And then Ye Zun comes back
SW and HPS different, ~3.6k, weilan (except with two Shen Weis)
The Hallows do something screwy while Shen Wei is napping and now he's two individual people: Professor Shen and Heipaoshi.
imperial au, ~1.2k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan is a crown prince. He's forced to marry Shen Wei, the prince of another rival nation
yet another soulmate au, ~1.2k, weilan
Soulmate marks that grow when something significant happens in their lives. Idk, baby Zhao Yunlan is born with a lot of soulmark then?
FFVII xover, ~4.7k, weilan (no idea what I'm doing with Ye Zun though)
Post-canon Guardian Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan and Ye Zun end up in pre-canon FFVII (pre-canon for the game that is). Apparently they meet Angeal at some point.
naruto xover, ~3.1k, I think I might seriously have been considering Hatake Sakumo/Ye Zun so who even knows
Okay, this is hilariously both a time travel fix-it for naruto (Kakashi goes back in time) and a crossover where Ye Zun just happens to run into Kakashi. It doesn't make sense, but whatever.
another ac crossover I guess, ~1.5k, weilan (other than that I have no idea at this point)
Desmond meets Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan and Ye Zun in the Grey.
Zhu Hong time travel, ~3.9k, weilan
Zhu Hong gets to do the time travel fix-it
voyager vorik/ye zun, ~1.8k, Vorik/Ye Zun (but probably very one sided)
They happen to be on Haixing when Vorik has his Pon Farr and he proposes to Ye Zun isntead
voices, ~2.1k, weilan
Soulmate!AU, kid!Zhao Yunlan hears Shen Wei's voice in his head, except it speaks in a language he doesn't understand.
goth!ZYL :D, ~1.8k, weilan
Sequel to At First Glance (https://archiveofourown.org/works/55003546)
AI, ~1.4k, weilan
This is literally a fever dream. Shen Wei is an AI in charge of Zhao Yunlan's life. And then there's… some kind of android rebellion going on.
tiny soulmate, ~2.6k, weilan

YZ/DQ, ~1.4k, Ye Zun/Da Qing, weilan
Da Qing is lying in the sun when suddenly a very young time travelling Ye Zun appears out of nowhere.
somnophilia, ~1.7k, weilan
Supernatural AU of some kind. Zhao Yunlan accidentally summons Shen Wei, doesn't realise it and then Shen Wei just hangs around without Zhao Yunlan ever realising he's there and kind of… worries about Zhao Yunlan. And maybe takes advantage while Zhao Yunlan is sleeping.
Planet drop, ~3.1k, weilan
Apparently this is the idea: Random idea. Something happened, Haixing evacuated. And then a lot of years later ZYL and a bunch of others go down to… investigate. Make that work somehow.
Weilan Jurassic park, ~2k, weilan
Weilan end up on Isla Sorna (portal accident or something) around Jurassic Park 2, with that kid Eric
5k-10k words
soulmate au, 8.9k, weilan(zun?)
A soulmate AU that is relatively close to canon, but things aren't going so badly, Ye Zun is un-pillared and living with Shen Wei when weilan meet. Ye Zun doesn't have a soulmark and at some point when they were kids Shen Wei promised that Ye Zun would of course share his soulmate. Ye Zun intends to keep Shen Wei to that promise. (I'm not entirely sure what kind of relationship Ye Zun and Zhao Yunlan will have yet, though.)
Sword!YZ, ~4.6, weilanzun
Ye Zun is somehow actually Shen Wei's sword/glaive turned sentient and, you know, human shaped. Shen Wei still sees him as his brother though. Also no one is stuck in a pillar. Having Ye Zun around makes the first meeting with Zhao Yunlan happen differently.
baby animals, ~5.5k, weilan
The Black Cloaked Envoy keeps showing up with baby animals all over him, like that's normal. Zhao Yunlan is charmed, everyone else is confused or vaguely horrified. No one ever says anything about it.
sequel life's a little weird, ~7.1k, weilan
The next part in this AU: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2649130. Zhao Yunlan gets offered the job as Chief of SID.
other soulmate AU, ~6.6k, weilan
Dixingren soulbonding is a bit more intense, requiring that they basically keep touching each other for however long (days, weeks, it depends) until the bond is stable. So, Zhao Yunlan's first meeting with the Black Cloaked Envoy goes in a very surprising direction.
more au, ~9.7k, weilan
Canon adjacent AU, Shen Wei is in prison in Haixing, he stays there for reasons that are his own, then suddenly escapes. He goes after among other people Zhao Xinci (because he was involved in whatever happened in the past). The team sent to capture him includes Zhao Yunlan, who's still a relatively young cop. There's a stand off sort of thing where Shen Wei holds Zhao Xinci hostage, and Zhao Yunlan suddenly offers himself up instead.
sequel k15 - it's complicated, ~6k, weilan
Shen Wei tries to navigate being an accidental sugar daddy to teen prostitute Zhao Yunlan (https://archiveofourown.org/works/26986951)
vampire, ~7.6k, weilan
Mostly casefic and Shen Wei just happens to be a vampire
Gifts, ~8.2k, weilan
Vaguely supernatural AU where Shen Wei has been stalking Zhao Yunlan for a while and leaves him weaponry (mostly knives) as gifts for reasons.
Star Wars xover, ~8.7k, weilan
Post canon everyone is magically alive and some Mandalorians happen to make a quick stop on Haixing and Zhao Yunlan thinks it's a good idea if he and Shen Wei take Ye Zun and leave with them because apparently no one is that happy with Ye Zun being around. Oh, Da Qing goes with them too.
monster, ~8.5k, weilan
Some kind of AU where apparently Heipaoshi and the Guardian traditionally work together by Heipaoshi possessing the Guardian
ZYL time travel, ~5.3k, weilan
Post canon (I think) Zhao Yunlan time travels and finds himself an outsider to that scene where kid!Zhao Yunlan lost his dog. He decides to interfere
memory, ~8.1k, weilan
Shen Wei has a power (can't turn it off) that makes people forget about him once they haven't seen him for a day or something. It makes relationships hard. Zhao Yunlan makes notes, he's not going to be stopped by some memory issues.
acquiring ZYL, 8k, weilan
Zhao Yunlan was kidnapped at some point when he was younger and taken to Dixing and sold into some kind of sexual slavery. A lot later Shen Wei finds him and kills everyone and takes Zhao Yunlan with him. Except Zhao Yunlan now thinks Shen Wei is his new master.
lake dragon, ~6.9k, weilanzun(?)
Totally a dream I had. Zhao Yunlan wakes up in a strange place with temporary amnesia. He finds some weird town, and some weird people. And then there's a lake, with a dragon, that people warn him not to go close to. There's a portal at the bottom of the lake somewhere.
tiniest dragon sequel, ~7.4k, weilan
Sequel to Too Small (https://archiveofourown.org/works/46538785/chapters/117189478). Shen Wei keeps growing.
space pirate AU, ~6.1k, weilan
Shen Wei is a space pirate (really, some kind of freedom fighter) and Zhao Yunlan is stuck policing some backwater planet that Shen Wei is supposed to meet someone on. It's a trap, there's fighting, Zhao Yunlan ends up in the middle. Shen Wei kidnaps him, as you do.
he-man x-over, ~8.6k, weilan
Crossover with the newish netflix he-man. Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan and Ye Zun are hanging around in the void post-canon and then Eldress ends up there and she ends up wishing them all back to Eternia with the wishstone.
>10k words
ot3 arranged marriage AU, ~12.3k, weilanzun
It's the old the Treaty says they need to get married thing, but instead of just marrying the Black Cloaked Envoy, Zhao Yunlan needs to marry both of the twins.
alone, ~26.1k, weilan, Chu Shuzhi/Shen Wei, Shen Wei/OCs, Zhao Yunlan/Da Qing
Shen Wei wakes up in Haixing after his long nap and the portal to Dixing is closed. He has to learn all about modern Haixing on his own, and somehow through some odd developments there's prostitution (hey, he needs money) and then he slowly and accidentally takes over the whole business, and starts studying in uni. Eventually, he meets Zhao Yunlan.
in this thing together, ~33.5k, weilan (optionally weilanzun)
A choose your own story that's gotten very out of hand and has too many storylines. Shen Wei holds Ye Zun's hand in that last scene in YOHE and lets go or doesn't let go, Zhao Yunlan manages to intervene or he doesn't… and then the Hallows have opinions too.
weizun I suppose, ~14.1k, weizun
Third part of a genderbent series, mostly a prequel about the twins learning to get along and some twincest, https://archiveofourown.org/series/2613379

A time travel/time loop story that fixes nothing, just makes things differently sad.
tradition, ~22.2k, weilan
A kind of collar AU, where that's a Dixing tradition or something. Not sure I'm entirely happy with how close to slave!AU this one got, so I don't know if I should rework things or not.
voyager xover, ~11.2k, weilanzun
Star Trek Voyager that is. They find dilithium or something on Haixing, and then accidentally end up kidnapping everyone during that whole confrontation with Ye Zun at the end, and there's a transporter accident… there's a lot going on here.
marriage, ~14k, weilan
A younger Zhao Yunlan digs Shen Wei out of the ground and accidentally proposes marriage. Shen Wei of course thinks it's the best idea, even once he finds out Zhao Yunlan has no idea who he is.
Weilan derivatives
These are mostly not getting summaries, because the title is the pairing and that basically is the summary. Just throw the characters together and see what happens.

Shipper tag game
I was tagged by @dual-domination :DDD thanks!
What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?
Okay so this whole tag game is gonna be interesting, bc i'm not actually that much of a shipper. I don't really care about shipping for the shipping itself, if that makes sense. I care about the characters and their dynamic, and ships can be interesting for what the characters may or may not bring to each other. Anyway, that was all meant to preface that I don't remember if I really strongly shipped anything when I was a teenager... At the very least I don't think there's one I don't care about anymore. Most of the things I shipped as a teen would have been tolkien ships, and I still carry a great fondness for those even if I'm not an active creator in that fandom atm.
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
As said above, likely something Tolkien-related?? Maybe Glorestor? I remember reading fics about them but I don't remember actively shipping them. Perhaps Finarfin/Eärwen, that is the earliest ship I remember caring about in a way that I might consider shippy??
3. Your first fanfic was about which couple?
Neither the first fanfic I ever attempted to write (sth about Legolas that I wrote with pen on paper when I was like 10) nor the first serious unfinished attempt (about Thranduil taking up the crown in the aftermath of his father's death) nor the first one I ever published (The Last Son, a character study about Finarfin) are about couples at all... My first one that is about a couple though is Broken, about Turgon and Elenwë, but that is not 'shippy' at all.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of?
In Tolkien fandom circles, that will probably have been sth like Gigolas or maybe Glorestor, but I don't remember. The first I have active memory of is Angbang :D
5. Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?
No. I try to stay far away from that...
6. Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?
Maybe? There's definitely ships I don't care about, even ones that the rest of the fandom is all about, but there's very few ships I actively avoid. The only thing I actively filter out of my AO3 searches atm is anything that ships Ye Zun and Shen Wei together. That's just not for me... But that is what we have the exclude tags button for, so others can enjoy what they enjoy and you can too :) I also avoid the Pingxie tag like the plague, bc I've seen one too many people in the fandom have bad opinions, but I wouldn't call them a NOTP. It's more a 'missing a third party (namely Pangzi)' kinda deal for me xD
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
My mind immediately went to Weilan, but then I remembered that actually it's Zhubai <3 Both are a very likely answer to this question at any given moment.
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
See above! Weilan for sure, and definitely also Zhubai (and the extended polycule in the whole of and i will make a silence for you, for which I am eternally grateful to mumble and Sam) <333
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
No. As I said before, I'm not really a shipper. I don't consume media in that way. The story is the story, I don't see a reason to get mad about it. If you're unhappy with canon, you throw it in the trash and start writing AU fanfiction. It's not that deep.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Nah.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
Idk, I suppose some people these days would cancel me over my RPF ships? I've also read a lot of Tolkien fanfic back in the day with ships that the modern purity-police would probably like to put me on a stake over (Celegorm/Curufin(/Finrod), maybe Silverfisting (when we still had the collective guts to call it that) and such.) Look, I was there for all the Yuri On Ice ship wars (that I didn't participate in, mind you), don't @ me with your anti bullshit. Fiction is fiction. Reality is reality. Go touch some grass.
12. What is your favorite crack ship?
I don't think I have one. Crack is not my fanfic genre.
13. What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?
Weilan probably ranks high by now, as does Zhubai. I've read a lot of Silverfisting and Curufin/Finrod in my day. I've read everything that was in the Finarfin/Eärwen tag up until a couple years ago, but that is a rarepair (even though it's canon... that's what you get when your OTP are only mentioned by name 3 times in the whole entire book). Xiyao and Nielan and 3zun are probably high on the list as well. I don't know who wins it, bc I only started keeping track of my reading habits with bookmarks in the past couple years so I have almost no data about the amount of fic I read before my Guardian days.
14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?
Uuhm, often there's something potentially fucked up about the dynamic. Some friction. A certain level of codependency or otherwise unhealthy attachment is interesting to me (how do they work through that? can they?). Most important though is just the deep affection they have for each other. I'm really big on like, choice and consent and free will. When characters could've chosen to part, and it might have even been easier for them to try and let go, but they decide the pain is worth it and they want to work on themselves and the relationship to make it work? When they love each other so much it dwarfs all else, but they still make the active choice to be vulnerable and share that love? That's my jam :)
15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?
Why do we have to end on a negative :(((( hhhm, okay i guess the lack of the above. I hate the soulmate trope with a passion, because so often it erases the element of choice from a relationship. "These characters were meant to be together" okay that's cute but do they want to be? I dislike it when a ship is written in such a way (either by the canon author or by fans) that it takes away the agency from the characters. I'm all for characters living for each other, but there must be meaning behind it. It can't just be fate. It has to be choice. For that matter, when a fandom collectively decides one ship is the way to go and all else is wrong and sucks, that is when I jump ship, because that ship is sinking.
Thanks again for tagging me, this was fun!

So. While the oil fire still burns, let me note that Hisami is another ZUNart design with defined breasts. There have been, increasingly, boobs defined by shading, and Megumu has a slight zigzag out to one side, but Urumi and Hisami kind of stick out here as far as having rounded curves. What's going on here, semiotically? When ZUN is overseeing something but not doing the art himself, bust sizes are clearly not directly taken from his artwork, so should we understand these as proportionally representational? (i.e. Urumi and Hisami are noticeably larger than average?) Or perhaps is it just that these are the only girlthings we've met so far who wear a bra that offers lift and separation? Maybe every artist has bullied ZUN into allowing them to draw Reimu with titties, and these two really are the only Touhou characters on which the "I have no tits" tank would be ironic.
Now, there's a serious thought behind all of this, which is that Hisami's outfit is a tight sheath dress like a qipao, and Urumi wears a midriff-baring tank top-like thing, and both of these are outfits where the breasts would be pretty evident, and many Touhou characters don't wear outfits that would show off their racks to the same degree (and Hecatia could just be petite, etc.) Zanmu's open top would show quite a bit in person, but it wouldn't cling to her breasts like Hisami constantly thinks about doing. And so on.
Coupled with this is that ZUN's style keeps developing, and he seems more comfortable with depicting some forms of sexuality (Tsukasa) on designs. So it may also be he's more comfortable with putting the boobage in there, or... perhaps he saw the "many touhou characters have the big bap" article and it shook him to his core. Whomst can say?
Regardless, what matters is that Touhou artists will continue to use archetypal thinking and raw horniness to determine how big to draw the titties, so ironically, Hisami's probably not going to get up to bazongazonklaronga levels, she's telling Zanmu "yes, mommy" rather than being mommy. Also, Tsukasa has no tits whatsoever.

On Guardian and Creativity (we could all use to be a little more handwavy sometimes)
I’ve been ruminating for some time on why I find the Guardian fandom one of the most creative ones I’ve been in during my long tenure on Tumblr and other fandom spaces. After much thought (and some encouragement on Discord *waves to everyone there*) I decided to write out my feelings in a little bit of an analytical essay meta. So, I will begin this reflection under the cut
But the TL;DR of it can be summarized in this meme:
Tumblr media
So, Guardian. A fairly small fandom with  just over 4,000 English-language fics in the general tag on AO3 (as of October 2022). Although the show aired in 2018, I only started watching earlier this year and quickly fell into a deep hyperfixation. I devoured every fic I could get my hands on like Ye Zun devours his enemies (I know, bad joke, sorry). I can wholeheartedly say I have encountered some of the most creative fics I have ever had the honor of reading--fics I return to over and over and over again and new ones that completely blow me away. So, just how does one small fandom manage to contain so much creativity? I would like to point to some reoccurring fandom AO3 tags to explain why.
1) Handwavy-ness 👋
Let’s be honest here, the ending of the Guardian drama is painful, agonizing, brutal, all of the above. If anyone walked away from it without tears falling down their face they’re a stronger person than me. So, what can one do when canon throws you into the pit of despair and kicks you while you’re down? Look for fix-it fics of course! And oh boy does Guardian have plenty. The generic Fix-It tag has 308 fics in it, and the Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies tag has 137, undoubtedly with some overlap. But this is not what I want to focus on; I would like to draw your attention to some of the tags I have collected below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: a series of screenshots of AO3 tags that read in order, handwavy post-canon, (handwavy everybody lives), hand-wavey fixit, Handwavey Post Canon, assume a handwavy fix, But Hand-Wavy Fixed, (the handwavey fix-it version), (of the handwavy everybody lives kind), Hand wavy post canon happy ending, handwave-y post-canon, (just a bit of handwaving), handwaving the canon timeline, and handwaving canon events. End ID]
These are all just from the first 21 pages (aka 10%) when sorted by kudos, and some repeat multiple times within that. Sometimes you don’t want to have to do the work to fix the tangled mess of the ending, it is a lot of work! I have seen it done and it is insanely admirable, but it no doubt takes a lot of brain power that my two brain cells just cannot keep up with. So herein lies the Guardian fandom’s alternative--just handwave it! Nothing is stopping you from writing a post canon fic and just never explaining how we got here. All you need to know is that everyone is alive and happy. I have been in other fandoms where this technique would be questionable at best, but not here. There is such an overarching acceptance for this attitude of handwavy-ness and I think this is a large part of where the abundance of creativity comes from. But let’s also look at some more tags.
2) Dixing powers can do what they want
Although we can all laugh at how the show turned ghosts into mutant aliens with dark energy powers, I for one love this choice, the dark energy powers especially! They add a completely new avenue for creative freedom. The Dixingren powers in the show that come up during various cases are so random and contrived, there is no judgement whatsoever for making a character in a fic have the most random and contrived dark energy power either. We have a guy in canon whose power is literally “hardening the lower body” for goodness sake! On top of that, we have a main character who can learn any power he sees. ANY. Including the lower body hardening one if he so chooses to. The amount of options this gives fic writers? Unparalleled I tell you! You can give a Dixingren OC any power you want and make Shen Wei learn any power you want. Fic authors in this fandom have already taken full advantage of this! Cue part two of tags in the top 21 pages by kudos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: a series of screenshots of AO3 tags that read in order, Dixing powers do whatever I want them to, Dixing powers work how I want them to, Handwavy Dixing plot device, Dark energy does what I want it to, completely contrived Dixing plot devices, Dixing powers do what I want them to, dixing artifacts do what I want them to do, and weird dark energy powers. End ID]
I have seen similar handwavy logic applied to the Hallows in fics too, because they are also the most random and contrived things in existence, but I wasn’t able to encounter any tags for those, so I will not get into it here as much.
In any case, already with just the freedom of handwavy-ness and Dixing powers, the Guardian fandom already has such a big playground to mess around in! It is absolutely no wonder why Guardian fandom creators are some of the most creative people out there. I am so happy to be a part of this amazing fandom and I hope it stays active for many more years to come. Current and future Guardian fandom friends, go forth and be as handwavy as you want! You have a permit to do so!
Thanks for reading

I've got this concept stuck in my head where, on that cliff, the boy who might become ye zun doesn't quite pass out. He coughs and coughs and coughs until he's too weak to move or talk, but he's still conscious, and can just barely hold his eyelids open enough to watch what's going on. Because his gege sounds scared, because they are traveling alone for a reason. And so when that man throws his gege off a cliff, the boy who might become ye zun thinks his brother is dead. He thinks his big brother, his twin, only minutes older, who has always looked after him, has died trying to defend him. And when he gathers the strength to speak, the man has the audacity to lie to him. To claim his gege sold him, left him there. When his brother died trying to stop this man.
We see in canon what ye zun is capable of for revenge. What if that was pointed at the deserving party. What if the 'rebel dixingren' gathered with someone in its heart who doesn't care at all about either cause, only that the man playing warlord and everything he values is going to suffer before they die.
What if a masked spy from within the 'rebels' (and I have opinions about them being called rebels, but this is not the place) meets the Dixing symbol of the alliance. And it's not an instant reunion, because 'ye zun' (probably a self chosen codename either way, because it doesn't make sense as a thing they would have called a slave) thinks his gege is dead and Hei Pao Shi (a mask that took on a life of its own) has had so little hope to hold on to, and has never seen his own masked face in the mirror, to compare it to this spy.
Anyway, my idea is generally a softer AU where everything works out. Kunlun facilitates a reveal, helps the twins end the war, and legends say Hei Pao Shi gained the ability to be in two places at once. The twins get Sleeping Beautied together in a Hallow-facilitated dirt-nap, no one ends up in the pillar, and they end up terrorizing different portions of academia and both governments taking shifts as Hei Pao Shi. Not!Ye Zun (because the name doesn't make sense in this AU) is having the time of his life watching his brother fall over himself for Zhao Yunlan. They probably meet slightly earlier than in canon. That dude with the purple hair can be the main evil villain, with some Regent political assholery.
Also, does anyone else think the most unbelievable part of the drama is the Treaty existing, unedited, for 10,000 years?!
Magic aliens? sure I can vibe with that. Ancient war with magic item time loop? Awesome love that. Doctor Who-esque out of order love story? Hell yeah. Bad CGI? I can deal. A treaty being upheld by both parties for ten thousand years? What the fuck are they smoking and can i have some?
for tagging purposes i'm calling this the celestial events AU in my head, because america just lost it's mind about the eclipse, and twins with sun/moon symbolism (light hair v dark hair, powerful abilities that are related but function differently, on opposing sides because of things beyond their control, so powerful they can be compared to forces of nature), and also because they involve a series of events aligning in just the right way, and also because of how there can be years separating occurrences. I can keep BSing but i'm not good at titles and this is as good as its going to get from me.
I may update if I actually translate ideas into words, feel free to do what you want, I like reading more than writing.

My fill for my @guardianbingo prompt of 'spaceship'.
Look, give me a show with aliens and special powers and time travel and heartbreak and watch me make it relevant to Doctor Who. If there's one thing I can do, it's make everything about Who. I've thought way too much about this so I'm gonna make it everyone's problem. (behind a read more though because wow I ramble)
I hear spaceship and I think TARDIS, because it's been almost twenty years and I am not getting over DW ever at this point. So my brain decided hey what if Zhao Yunlan got thrown back in time in a more comfortable and stylish way? And thus this image came to mind.
But my mind is not one for shutting up, so while this came to be I had a lot of thoughts about if anyone in the show would pull off being the Doctor particularly well.
The obvious choice is of course Zhao Yunlan; canonically time travels, regeneration could be a sci-fi equivalent to reincarnation, general chaos gremlin vibes, likes sticking things in his mouth yes I'm imagining 13 eating soil rn, quick thinking and loves a puzzle. Kunlun could be his version of 'Doctor' and Zhao Yunlan his version of 'John Smith' when he tries to go undercover.
However, I then got to thinking about Shen Wei. His wardrobe is definitely a much better match for the Doctor but he's not so obviously chaotic. But he is an alien, he's at least 10000 years old, his Dixing power is learning which is perfect, he's literally a professor (like the Doctor) and enjoys teaching (twelve comes to mind), he's into science and has accumulated random detailed knowledge about other things (eg. Bears) whilst remaining somewhat awkward socially, doesn't necessarily entirely vibe with others of his kind, has lots of secrets and is not always very good at lying. Likes to suffer in silence and not fcking tell anyone. He may not be full of chaos like thirteen but he has the vibes of nine or twelve where there's something not entirely human about him.
Another thing I found very interesting though is the potential for Ye Zun to be the Master to Shen Wei's Doctor. Because I like pain. The relationship between them two in DW canon is fascinating, just imagine if they were actually siblings.* The intense 'I want to kill you' vs 'I want to be you' vs 'I want you to like me' desire that's constantly warring away inside the Master. The Master loves the Doctor but feels like they've been abandoned by them, is that not Ye Zun? The desire for power and mayhem but also maybe just wanting attention from a certain person.
Also, if Shen Wei is the Doctor then Zhao Yunlan gets to be the companion and depending which level of angst I can cope with on the day, I've decided on two options.
Novel vibes: Zhao Yunlan as Donna Noble, something happens during their travels together that results in Shen Wei having to remove all of Zhao Yunlan's memories of him and their adventures together and Shen Wei has to stay away and never return or run the risk of Zhao Yunlan's brain permanently breaking. An even more extreme version of Shen Wei having to stay away from Kunlun's reincarnations because there's no chance of Zhao Yunlan coming back in this world. I'm not being entirely evil though because the 60th anniversary clips we've seen imply there is hopefully a way to fix this problem so there could still be a happy ending!
Show vibes: instead of sacrificing his soul to a lantern how about Zhao Yunlan does a Rose and stares into the TARDIS and only almost dies. If there's a way to somehow combine this with Rose using the power to bring Jack back to life and accidentally making him immortal then ta da! a never dying Zhao Yunlan to go with Shen Wei the time lord! Winners all around!
Final point i promise:
The TARDIS is called the ghost monument at one point, is that not a fitting name for a ghost king's spaceship?

The Perfect Spiritual Pet
Just a funny little thing that popped into my head to cheer myself up. Also can be found on AO3
~*~*~*~
Nie Huaisang uses an array to attract the perfect spritual pet - the problem is, neither he nor Wei Wuxian nor Jiang Cheng have any clue what it is.
(Spoiler: It's a three-toed sloth)
~*~*~*~
“Well... this wasn't supposed to happen.”
Nie Huaisang stared at the middle of the floor of his dorm room where he'd painted the array just as Wei Wuxian had instructed.
“What is it?” Jiang Cheng asked, hand on his sword and ready to pull it at a moment's notice if the strange beast tried to attack one of them.
“I... really don't know,” Nie Huaisang replied with a shrug. “Though it's rather cute, isn't it?”
“It looks ridiculous – I love it!” Wei Wuxian approached the creature lying in the middle of the array. It blinked slowly at him and moved its head as if it were in a daze. “It's so slow! Slower than a tortoise.”
Nie Huaisang crouched down next to Wei Wuxian and held his hand out to the creature. The beast, whose head looked like it had been painted with a permanent smile, began stretching its paw out towards him. “It only has three toes, but its nails are so long. You're just a cute little three-toed baby, yes you are,” he cooed as the fingers wrapped around his hand.
“Be careful,” Jiang Cheng hissed. “You don't know what it is. It could be some sort of yao trying to lure you into a false sense of security. If you get your head eaten off by some strange animal, I'm telling Chifeng-zun it was your own fault.”
Nie Huaisang picked it up and held it in his arms, fascinated when it slowly wrapped its limbs around him in a gentle but secure hold. “I didn't think your array made up new animals, Wei-xiong.”
“It's not supposed to.” Wei Wuxian shrugged. “You said you wanted a spiritual animal because you thought it would get your brother off your back about your cultivation, so the array is supposed to find you a spiritual pet that best matches your personality. Seriously, I just expected it to give you a tortoise or something.”
Jiang Cheng snorted. “With your luck, just be glad it didn't try to give him a xuanwu.”
“What should we call you?” Nie Huaisang rubbed his nose against the animal's. The array was indeed an amazing thing if it could create a new breed of animal out of thin air. “I know! Yidi. You look like a Yidi to me.”
“You're naming him after the god of wine?” Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. “Please don't tell me you're going to feed him Emperor's Smile.”
“Well, he already looks kind of drunk,” Wei Wuxian offered with a chuckle. “I think Yidi's a fine name.”
“Maybe we should take it to Lan Qiren.” Jiang Cheng still hadn't let go of his wariness of the creature.
“No, we should take it outside to show the rest of the students! Everyone would get a kick out of it!”
“It might still be dangerous!” Jiang Cheng argued.
“No it isn't, it's friendly!” Wei Wuxian countered. “And with the number of disciples around here, even if it did try anything, we'd all be able to stop it.”
The two argued for a few more moments before realizing that they hadn't heard any more from Nie Huaisang. They stopped simultaneously and began looking around the room, both pausing when they spotted Nie Huaisang's bed.
The boy had curled up in his blankets and fallen asleep, the creature in his arms sleeping just as deeply as he did.
Jiang Cheng snorted. “Maybe your array did work as intended after all.”
There was a chorus of snoring from the two sleeping in the bed.
“Only your array could find a creature as lazy as Nie Huaisang.”
