during that period i bought over 2000 ebooks and 600 steam games. i like to believe that i'll read or play them someday. i probably won't, with most of them. but it was nice to have the option. i paid $10 a year for a domain name that did nothing but show a single image when you went there because i thought that was funny. i bought every sims expansion. i bought a ps4 and pretended i was in debt for a ps4 instead of taco bell gift cards and the sims. i barely ever played anything on the ps4, but it was nice to have the option.

when i got a part-time retail job in 2019 ($12 an hour! 20 hours a week!) i felt RICH. i was getting $200-$300 a week! that's so much fucking money! i was spending most of it on gas, and food that i could eat in a store break room without dying. but it was still so much money!! i paid off all my credit cards and then immediately ran them back up. i bought matching couches for me and my cat at tj maxx. i bought a ferris wheel for mini cupcakes. i bought cute dresses and shoes that i never had a chance to wear because the only time i went anywhere was to work, in my work uniform. i was 29 and that was the most money i had ever had in my life. now i'm 32 with a full-time office job and most of my money goes toward debt but the rest of it ends up being spent on dumb shit. every month i look at my budget and try to figure out where it all went wrong and every month the conclusion is, "spent too much money on dumb shit". you would think that i would try to stop doing that, and yet.

it's like. i was poor and now i'm lurking somewhere near the low end of middle class, and in both cases buying dumb shit was simultaneously proof that i would be rich if i could just stop buying dumb shit, and that i couldn't possibly understand true poverty if i was capable of buying dumb shit. i do not know how to explain to people that i will always waste more time and money than anyone ever should on dumb shit that i think is funny. there is nothing i want more than to spend my last dollar on a laugh and my last minute laughing, and no one's insistence that they would use them better will change this.

ok here is my advice (which I should probably listen to as well omg my bank account is hurtin but we don’t need to talk about that lol):

- $ save save save $ (I know this is like common sense but it’s important and little things like making food at home can save you money and all these little things add up so no more doordash - that last part was specifically for me lmao)

- consider other future expenses (besides rent) like utilities and whatnot (also phone bill, internet; groceries, etc.) those all add up and can cost lots of $$$ so plan for that

- write out all of your expenses ! put it in like an excel sheet and you can see what you’re spending the most amount of $$$ on and maybe cut back in some areas (I’ve done this before and I put like my rent, utilities, phone/internet bills, streaming services, groceries, etc. in and then also put how much $$$ I make monthly)

- maybe picking up shifts at work to make a lil extra $$$ (I’ve been doin that a lot lately tbh and it all adds up)

let’s be honest, this country sucks and I think everyone is really struggling rn so just know there are a lot of people in the same boat, renting is…….not always fun, let me just say but that doesn’t mean you should be deterred, just watch your money and watch for red flags when looking at listings, I wish you all the best of luck <3!!!

hey anon! let me start out by saying we really didn’t have a choice bc my fiancé had 2 evictions and landlords are so god damn picky and my city is dominated by property management companies and none of them would accept him so i just let him live there off the lease and we almost got caught many times bc of a racist maintenance man BUT ANYWAY. so basically the market was just fucking amazing during 2020 apparently and i had like pretty good credit & got a loan through my state or my bank maybe both. i got an amazing mortgage handling lady who really fought for me and made sure i got all the breaks i could get. and i didn’t owe anything and actually got money back at closing. buying a house at least then and where i am, was like…mm 1200? give or take. cause buying a house, like an apartment, you’ve got fees and deposits and shit to make. hiring an inspector blah blah. and it’s wayyy cheaper than rent. but otherwise don’t buy one. don’t do it. unless you’re a millionaire or have decent family who will help or whatever tf just don’t. it was the biggest mistake of my fucking life and i suffer for it every day lmao 😭

but it’s not impossible tbh. not if you’ve got some money saved up and depending on where you’re at in the country.

the day to renew our lease is coming up

june 17th isn’t that far away

and while i wouldn’t mind staying where i am, i’m starting to get stressed about finding somewhere else to live

but most places don’t allow pets, when renting, and the cats are non-negotiable, so finding a house is the only other option

but what’s the point in trying to save money for a down payment on a house? i don’t make enough money to come up with that kind of cash in time for renewal day, and i don’t have anywhere i could go if i chose to move out instead of renewing the lease

and if i do renew the lease, then i keep on not making enough money to save up for anything important. and that’s assuming our landlady doesn’t try to raise rent - if she does, all bets are off, because i’ll just have to move out because i can’t afford, on a one-person minimum wage salary, to pay more than the $475/month i’m already paying when i also have to come up with electric and internet every month.

the only way to manage it, to come up with that kind of money, is literally to commit a crime, like fucking bank robbery or some shit. or, you know, paying only the most important of my bills and never buying anything at all except the essentials, in which case i relapse horrifically (and so does my husband) and there’s no point doing that to ourselves

i’m really starting to understand why people rob banks. and do other shit like that.

like i got it before, i understood, cuz i grew up in a less-than-$20K/year household that often had to feed and clothe 4 people, and crime would have made things so much easier for us, but now that I’m the idiot earning less than $20K/year while trying to juggle all my bills AND find the money for a house, it makes even more sense.

If you could change one thing about your show experience, what would it be? there was this 6’4” guy built like a football player directly in front of us who stood the whole show

Has your perspective or opinion about the band changed since seeing them on this tour? If so, in what way? honestly i feel way more passionately about mcr than i have in years .. my show was mid september and it’s been a month now and i can like ONLY listen to them , i still think of my concert when i hear songs from the set list … if anything i saw that the guys were genuinely doing something they enjoy in a comfortable way again (?) where they can have fun and be silly and express themselves and that just makes me so happy for them , i hope they had a really fun time bc i know they made sure we did :)

oh no it wasn't the moko artist, it was someone else. i've called my bank and got told they'll let me know what's happening in four weeks (not that they'd get it back, just that they might be able to lmao <3) but the issue is i'm moving out of this house in a bit over a week since it went to racist shit here very quickly and my moko is this month so even if they get it back in four weeks i don't really Have four weeks right now. i'm able to borrow money from a few people (already had to so i could pay rent and get out of the negatives since the guy drained my account and then put me nearly a hundred in debt) and i'm getting some help with the physical part of moving out from my dad but it's still a huge fucking financial blow for me and the timing really really sucked with me getting sick on my birthday, there being covid in the house and the guy refusing to self isolate until after the test came back positive, getting outed etc :|

Just gonna go on a quick rant cause life kinda sucks right now lmao. Fucking Biden lowered his $2000 checks to $1400 & tbh I could really use the $2000 not in the least because I’ve had to take like 5k out of my savings thanks to this stupid fucking pandemic AND it cost me at least 2k for the rent and utilities on an apartment I don’t even live at since I got my ass dumped after I moved out there. And also I never got my $1200 check! From Trump. AND from last September-December? I only made $622.74 a month after taxes! 😊 I really need fucking money and our elected officials don’t give a shit!! And of course I’m also lowkey pissed at myself because it’s like “why do you keep buying shit” but since I p much pay all my own bills I HAVE to buy a lot of shit and yeah I occasionally want something for myself so fucking sue me. And you think that’s done? Nope! In late January my bank took almost $400 out of my account for a check that posted twice (it didn’t) and then two overcharge fees which amounted to $70. I called them to fix it but they never did so now I have to call again because I’m short nearly $500 of my OWN money! And now on top of all that fun stuff I have to now come up with $99.52 per month so I can keep vision & dental insurance. I hear you there. lol I’ll try and break it down as easy as I can (since they don’t teach this in schools for some reason...): Long winded home buying info under the cut!

First, go to the bank to get pre-approved. You should have a steady job and income first. You don’t have to be a bank manager to own a house (my husband and I are artists/he works for Walmart). They just want proof that you have steady money and will pay your mortgage on time. The bank will ask for most recent paystubs and bank statements (to see your savings)! If you have a 401k or any savings elsewhere, bring the info for that too. They like seeing that you have money stashed away to pull from if there’s an emergency.

If more than one person is going to own the house, that actually helps a lot. My husband and I alone can’t really afford a home, but with our income combined we can (and the bank will estimate your loan based on your combined income!). You don’t have to be married, either! If you and your three pals want to co-own a house, you can (just make sure they’re really good friends lmao).

You also need to have “ok” or good credit. Pay your credit card bills on time, pay your car payments on time, pay your student loan payments on time, etc. Having other debts (or missing a couple payments) doesn’t mean you can’t get a home loan, they just take it into account when calculating how much of a loan you can be approved for. If you can pay off anything BEFORE you reach out to the bank, even better. They love seeing that you paid something off, and it gives you a credit boost.

Basically, you go into the bank with as much info about your income as possible, and they will calculate everything for you. They will also suggest different types of loans, depending on what your income is. Go to different banks and go with the best offers! Keep in mind, you will also need a down-payment. If you put down less than 20% on your new house, they will make you get loan insurance (added into your monthly mortgage payment, to protect themselves if you don’t pay). But if you can put 20% or more down, it lowers your mortgage payments and interest rate a good amount.

So, for example: if you want a house that costs $160,000, and you want to put down 20% to get a better rate, you will need $32,000. If you have $10,000 or something they will accept that, it just means your interest rate and monthly payments, etc. will be higher because you’re a “higher risk” customer.

First time home buyers typically aren’t approved for a ton of money, just be warned. Obviously, if you have a six figure income, you’ll get approved for a lot more than my husband and I did. lmao A lot of first time buyers end up with fixer-upper houses, or smaller homes. My husband and I got a fixer-upper, busted our butts making it decent again, and then sold it for more money than we originally paid for it (aka: house flipping or increasing the value). We paid off our first home’s loan, then took the extra/leftover money and used it to buy our new house! We were able to put down a larger down payment, etc. so our monthly mortgage is much lower than the first house’s was (or any of the rental apartments we’ve ever had. Seriously, renting is a rip off). Of course, a lot of people just fix up the first house they get and then live there permanently, which is also fine! Whatever floats your boat. Some people flip houses for a job, but I could never do that. Waaaaaay too much work. Reading this probably is overwhelming for some people, and home buying is stressful AF I can’t lie. But as anon already mentioned, renting is a f*cking nightmare, and we have greatly enjoyed owning a home VS renting. And you don’t have to have permission to get a dog, either. :p

I don’t know why I haven’t like “announced” it here yet when I’m always using tumblr to complain about my dad in general and my mom needing me to drive her everywhere, but... I am FINALLY moving out. And yes sorry this is a long ass post lmao. I GOTTA TALK ABOUT IT.

I managed to find an apartment for $825 all inclusive including internet and laundry, and it’s like a minute away from where I work which is AWESOME. It’s a studio and tiny so no bedroom, but it’s all I need for just me and my little bunny. My mom found it on Kijiji and I spent like a literal month going back to the ad and staring at the pictures and I finally just messaged the guy to ask if I could see it. I had already managed to save up enough money for one month’s worth of rent, and he did want first + last but didn’t need first until I actually moved in. So I gave him last month’s as the deposit which I had saved, then that gave me all of March to get first month’s. And if I couldn’t manage to save the $825 in March then I clearly couldn’t afford it, but turns out I actually can.

It’s in the basement of a giant house that’s actually three apartments (one on each floor). The landlord lives on the top floor with his pregnant wife and two other kids, lmao, and there’s apparently a middle aged lady on the first floor. Then me! The landlord seems like a really nice guy too, he’s a younger dude and he was willing to do month-to-month instead of a lease like just in case it ends up being too much for me and I can’t stay. But I’ve figured out all my money shit and I can definitely afford it, I just have to be careful with how much I spend on other crap besides food.

I also ended up calling credit counselling and setting up things with them that will help me pay off all the credit card crap I owe with a much lower monthly payment than what I was paying before. It still seems like a lot (it’s like $270 a month) but I was paying $200 for just ONE credit card before that. So having ONE payment per month that covers FOUR different debts (three credit cards + a loan) helps soooo much. Not even just the fact that it’s a lower payment but that it’s one big payment instead of a bunch of smaller ones I have to keep track of. It’s much less confusing. And they ask about all your expenses and stuff to make sure you have enough to live afterwards so that’s great.

No more freaking credit cards for me EVER. I don’t care if they build credit. No. Unless it’s like a $100 limit that I can literally pay back right away then no, lmao. And I’m not allowed to have any while I’m with them anyway. I even had to change banks because you’re not allowed to bank with a bank you owe money to when you’re doing this. But the lady I talked to did say I’m actually lucky because some people are so far in debt that they owe money to like, ALL the banks and actually have a hard time finding one. So I guess at least I wasn’t that bad off. D:

Also my mom did a “test run” of our taxes and if she did it right I should be getting about $700 back so I can use that to get any furniture I don’t already have. IKEA and Wayfair are surprisingly pretty good with a lot of prices.

SO YEAH I’M EXCITED. Me and my dad are equally as excited to get rid of each other! My mom is less excited but my dad already knows he’s gonna have to start driving her around if he wants me to leave and her to keep her job lmao.

So it’s been what, like, a few months since the last BIG fight I had with my dad. And it was from that day on that I was looking at apartments EVERY SINGLE DAY. For the last few months all I did on Facebook was look at rentals in the Marketplace. And it’s hard to find anywhere less than $1000 around here, and $825 is like the top of my budget, so I was super lucky to find somewhere I can afford where there’s no bills, and it’s REALLY close to work, which also means even LESS gas than I already pay.

I can move in on April 1st, and I have a vacation week in April too so I’ll be able to stay home and get used to it and figure out where I want everything to go and stuff. Gonna be good to finally be by myself, but not so far away that I can’t see my mommy and Pa whenever I want to, lmao. Aw yeaaah.
