Apparently much-needed reminder that reposting artists' art (by saving the images or screenshotting them and reuploading them yourself) on other platforms without the artists' expressed permission and without credit is theft and an insult to their passion and craft. You are profiting (in views, in attention, in feedback) from someone else's work and ideas, who do not get that feedback for sharing their creation.

If you are an art reposter, you are a thief and I have no respect for you.

Seen a lot of posts about people coming into your notifications out of nothing and liking your entire blog, but here's a shoutout to the people who do Not follow you, who appear out of nowhere, reblog One (1) post that you are Not the op of, and then you never see them again. I've been seeing a lot of posts lately talking about how no one comments/reblogs/replies/etc anymore, and, as someone who comments regularly on a lot of fanworks, it sometimes makes me wonder if my efforts are worth anything. Then I remember how much happiness I get from comments on my own work/posts and how much the community of fandom can matter, and I remember the power that can be found in spreading joy instead of disappointment.

So -- to everyone who comments on fanfiction: thank you. You make the writing process worthwhile and so very rewarding. You make people happy every day.

To all the people who reblog art and gifsets and meta and anything else with enthusiastic tags: thank you. You make people smile and promote interesting conversations and make being on Tumblr so much more fun.

To anyone who sends people asks about their works, whether it's unprompted or part of an ask game: thank you. You give people reasons to talk about things they love and feel like a part of a community.

To the people who makes reclists: thank you. You give us more to read while showing the author how much their work is loved and appreciated, benefitting so many people.

i don’t know if this will be in any way fruitful i am NOT optimistic about it but. if anyone knows of someone who used to have the url jimsrightsactivist who is/was in the homestuck & mob psycho 100 fandoms and goes by (used to go by?) the name zee. PLEASE please please send them my way i just looked through a bunch of old screencaps of our conversations and i got so wistful it hurt. i’m not exactly keen on putting my old name/url out there because i can’t log into my old account to like. purge it of its evils. so instead i’ll just say “hey remember friends or pho and karkat turning into a werewolf in a chipotle bathroom? remember goot roper? remember carptan camch or whatever the fuck awful typo i made that one time? remember snowdin town’s theme?” and hope that works for communicating exactly who i am LOL

tv show reccomendation: Scavengers Reign!

adult animated series on HBO Max about survivors of a spaceship wreck surviving on an alien planet, a pal originally pitched it as "Nausicaa meets Annihilation vibes" in terms of whimsy + body horror elements, and I think that both fits and is a compelling way to describe it. the plot isn't the most in depth but I think that allows the show to wrap everything up nicely in the 12 eps and maximize screen time on the best part which is the alien planet's ecology and worldbuilding.

it was also just very refreshing i feel like theres been a divide in western animation in recent years where a lot of "adult" shows are that way solely because they're crude/sexual/edgy, and meanwhile anything "whimsical" gets slotted into kid genres and is therefore limited in how far it can push anything. so its nice to get a show that balances whimsy with body horror elements without relying on like, sex or fart jokes.

also the last episode has a really gorgeous animation sequence nearish the end, you rarely see animation of earth-biology/geology/evolution done with such care and attention to detail, and it was really wonderful to see how much effort the writers/animators put into that aspect of the show and clearly loved it + wanted the viewer to love it too

i will never understand the hate that some older millennials direct towards younger adults born in the mid to late 90s. i’m a zillennial (january of ‘98) and while i haven’t lived either the FULL millennial or gen z experience, i DO know that shitting on people solely for the year they were born in is fucked up. it’s very disheartening how grown adults will gatekeep entire cultural phenomena. the commodification of media thanks to sites like buzzfeed has convinced us that we did not truly experience something unless we had physical ephemera of that era. if we didn’t have 20 beanie babies or didn’t hear bye bye bye on a hitclip or had to wait 20 minutes to use dial-up internet or used T9 on a flip phone or watched clarissa explains it all live on nickelodeon, we weren’t really #millennials. 30-year-old grown adults are saying shit like ‘oh, you like that? well guess what, i grew up with it and LIVED through it.’ on the flip side of this coin, we can and should ALSO acknowledge the existence of cringe without making people feel excluded from participating in said phenomena. if we shit on zoomers for rediscovering early 2000s fashion trends or listening to music of the late 90s, or shit on 1997 & 1998 adults for having little to no recollections of a time before 9/11, what are we doing? what does that say about our generation? what does that say about how we define ourselves?? it’s a boomer mentality that is tainting the experience for all of us, not to mention dividing us up. we can be nostalgic for a time when life was indeed simpler without being actively harsh to young people also partaking in that innocence. please be kind and let people enjoy things.
