Hi! I love your work! Can you do a Mike + alters, Scott, Alejandro (seperate) x reader where the reader has really bad sensory issues, especially with loud noises, and can have panic attacks from them? if your not okay with writing this then that’s totally fine /gen. it’s important to take care of yourself.

Mike

dealing with a traumagenic disorder (DID) I would imagine he's honestly kind of in the same boat.

He's no stranger to panic attacks, and is pretty well versed by now in how to deal with them.

The first time it happens though he's sort of an anxious wreck, he's just nervous that trying to help might make it worse, but he doesn't want to leave your side.

He gives you lot's of words of encouragement, and helps you through breathing exercises, and gets you plenty of water.

"It's okay, breathe with me, I'm right here," he assures you gently.

If you require pressure/physical contact during your panic attacks, he's more than happy to give you that.

He gets good at catching them too, he'll always be able to identify when you're about to spiral because of too much noise or too bright lights, and he'll find a quiet secluded room so he can work through it with you.

"Sorry you have to deal with this too," you said, after a particularly bad one, you still felt dizzy, and tears still stained your face, but you had come out of it now, and felt a little guilty.

"Hey don't apologize, I don't mind. Not at all."

He's just very caring with this kind of stuff in general.

Manitoba

Maintoba is similar to Mike, and I would think he likes to carry around a backpack whenever he is fronting (you never know when you're going to run into treasure). So he always keeps noise canceling headphones and a pair of sunglasses in there just for you.

Honestly I headcanon him as the caretaker of the system, so I imagine he's used to caring for people during panic attacks.

He's very observant, probably even more so than Mike, so he's better at avoiding them all together by identifying what situations you can handle and what you can't.

He always does a little research before the two of you go out in the environment to ensure that it doesn't seem loud/bright/overstimulating.

However sometimes these things are just unavoidable, and inevitable.

He'll provide you with whatever physical comfort you require, if any at all.

Anything you need, he's there to get for you.

"Take all the time in the world treasure, I'll still be here," he said.

He's all around good at keeping you grounded, and just good at being there with you.

Svetlana

I would think Svetlana is probably the protector/gatekeeper, most of her comfort comes from her just being fiercely loyal.

She'll be there no matter what, and you take great comfort in that fact.

She's not as good with being traditionally comforting, since it's a little out of her element.

Not that she doesn't try of course, she really cares about you, and she wants that to come across.

(I would think she would panic a little and ask Manitoba and Mike for help from the inner world).

But she would absolutely stay with you, coaching you through breathing exercises, talking to try and distract you.

Eventually if you let her know what you need (be it space, a distracting, physical comfort, quiet, dark) you name it, she will get it for you.

She's much better at caring for you after the panic attack honestly, when you feel really tired and put out, disoriented and just overwhelmed.

"Svetlana's here now to melt all your worries away," she smiled at you once.

She'll almost always bring you home, or take you to a secluded room, and just hangout with you. She'll turn all the lights off and sit in silence with you so you can have basically zero sensory input for a little while.

She'll absolutely stay with you until you feel yourself again.

Mal

Okay things with Mal are a little tricky.

He's for sure a former prosecutor and after a bit of system healing, definitely prosecutor turned protector.

Don't get me wrong though, he can still be a little nasty and snarky sometimes, but he's working on getting better.

Which is why he feels sort of out of his element when he's with you when you're having a panic attack.

He's not good at being comforting, and he barely knows what to do when he has a panic attack, so the first time it happens he completely freezes up.

He might even let someone else front to help you out instead of him.

After a while he gets better at keeping up with your triggers, and while he remains pretty awful at being comforting, he's good at grounding you.

He's glad sometimes that being there is enough sometimes, he doesn't know what he'd do if it wasn't.

"Sorry I can't do more..." he said one day.

You smile at him "You being here is enough sometimes."

Scott

Scott is also somewhat of a wreck I would imagine.

Growing up fairly isolated on a farm he's understandably really rough with being intune with people's emotions, he's not really all that good at reading you. Or anyone for that matter.

The first few times, he's shocked everytime.

What could be making you feel like this? He had no idea.

He would definitely need a list of all of your triggers, you have to tell him what helps you and what doesn't outright. Scott doesn't really like playing guessing games, especially when it comes to your safety and comfort.

Clear communication becomes pretty important for the two of you in all honesty, and the two of you work at it all the time.

Eventually he gets better at serving you during panic attacks, or meltdowns, he knows what to do after a little while.

Again I would think he's really good at protecting, so I think he's super good at keeping people away when he sees you're overstimulated.

"Don't touch them!" he huffed when someone was trying to tap you to get your attention.

Overall, he's really really trying for you, and knowing that is comfort enough.

Alejandro

It's no secret that Alejandro is very intune with people, just one of his many skills.

So he can tell right away from his very first meeting you, any loud noises, bright lights, things like that just don't mix well with you.

He steers clear of them when around you, always guiding you more towards quieter, much calmer and secluded dates.

When driving he turns the music down, and makes sure that all audio input looks like its helping you and not harming you.

Plus I feel like (and this is totally me projecting btw) he would carry around stim toys for you to distract yourself with, and headphones for when things are a lot.

But again, sometimes things just happen, and try as he might to protect you, it's not always possible.

He can always tell when things are getting to be a lot for you, he's good at reading everyone but you in specific.

He's really good at covering for you, if someone is asking where you are, or needs/wants to talk to you when you need to be alone he'll keep them away from you.

He'll spend as much time as you need helping you.

"Are you feeling better mi amor?" He would ask.

"Almost-" you said, voice a little course and shaky "-sorry," you said softly.

"Don't apologize, I don't mind at all."

Alejandro can be really nurturing when he wants to be.

He might deny it, deny it to the ends of the earth but he's very good at taking care of you.

OKAY my thoughts on the punishments that Mal gave all of the alters in Total Drama All Stars! Because @fraudulent-cheese asked and I've been waiting YEARS for someone to ask me about my theories!

(Disclaimer: I know the writers probably didn't put this much thought into this. I know that I'm being one of Those Total Drama fans and I categorically Don't Care because I have so much fun thinking about this.)

The reason I use the word "punishments" first of all is that 1. I need an easy name to call them to group them all together and 2. I do genuinely believe these are punishments Mal gives the alters as revenge for forcing him into dormancy. Because I ALSO think that Mal scaled them to how much he hated/blamed that particular alter.

(As an aside, there's a LOT to be said about Mal spending a formative period of time in juvie and then modeling his punishment for the alters after a jail, as Manitoba says. I wish we knew more about Mal's time in juvie so I could talk about this more.)

The first person we see is Mike, who's just all alone surrounded by (it seems like) miles and miles of nothingness. And I think his punishment is the worst, but we'll circle back to him.

Chester's punishment is really obvious: he's stuck selling skateboards because it's a symbol of the youth nowadays, which he absolutely hates. There's also something to be said for the fact that Chester's working a retail job, wherein you have to be constantly standing, and we know Mal took away Chester's mobility aid (which he had in the innerworld in Season 4 and did not have in Season 5). He probably didn't think Chester was capable of escape, but also put him in a position where he'd eventually become so physically incapacitated that he COULDN'T escape.

And ALSO, to skip ahead a little (sorry I have a lot of thoughts on this), Mal knew that even if everyone began to escape, Chester's legs would give out long before they reached the tower (which requires five people to enter). Mal was counting on the assumption that the others would leave Chester behind once he became unable to walk (more on this later!)

Second up is Svetlana, and though I don't know why Mal picked fish, I know why he picked butter: simple, because Svetlana's a gymnast. You can't do gymnastics if your hands are covered in butter. Being unable to do gymnastics would not only physically incapacitate her but also completely demoralize her. More than the physical impediment, the hopelessness of the situation would keep her from escape. I also think the reason he kept Svetlana under such close surveillance (the ears everywhere) was because he knew he might need physical control of her in the future (which we see when he forces her to co-front in order to fight off Alejandro).

Third is Vito, and Vito is my FAVORITE of these because his "punishment" isn't a punishment at all. It plays to all of his strengths! We already know that Vito loves attention; he would love to perform. Secondly, it's obvious by his reaction to his own joke that he REALLY enjoys cheesy jokes. Third-- and this is where I go from reaching to REALLY reaching, but bear with me-- in a very literal sense, Mal chose Vito as the mouthpiece through which he can speak to the rest of the system (the puppet is the only way we see Mal communicate with the alters, outside of the mirror he uses to talk to Mike, and only once).

Also, on rewatching the full scene to write this post, I wanna say two things I noticed: first, Vito seems... not all that surprised that the puppet can talk. He does clarify that he "didn't say nothin'" after puppet-Mal starts to talk, but he's mostly startled that it flew into the air and caught on fire. Everyone screams in terror when the puppet starts talking except Vito. Maybe Mal communicated more with Vito than we saw on camera. Mal must sleep, but we never see him sleeping, so it could totally happen then (<- completely delusional). And second, especially compared to everyone else, Vito doesn't seem all that enthusiastic. His exact words are "Woah, uh, sure" (in comparison to Chester's "I'm with ya", Svetlana's "hoorah!", and Manitoba's "took ya long enough"). It seems like he mostly just follows along because that's where his "audience" is going and also because he wants to find the club district.

So finally Manitoba! It seems like, besides Mal, Manitoba's the alter who feels the most animosity towards Mike, so it's understandable that he'd give Manitoba the job of destroying Mike's dreams (besides the fact Manitoba has lasso skills, I also think any other alter would probably refuse.) (Also, I think Manitoba's the gatekeeper/dreamkeeper/etc. of the system, so he'd be the one with easiest access to the dreams, but all the reasons I think THAT is a different essay for a different day.)

Also, like Vito, Manitoba's "punishment" actually plays to his strengths instead of to his dislikes and weaknesses, so like Vito, I think Mal doesn't feel too much hatred towards Manitoba either. Also understandable! Because it seems like Manitoba has a lot of the same criticisms of the system's inner workings as Mal does.

So what ARE the criticisms Mal has? They show through at the very start and very end of the journey-- how Mal punishes Mike, and how Mal sets up the guard tower.

(By the way, just for the record, I HATE the reset button. But for this post, let's accept the reset button as canon fact.)

The system has been Mike's coping mechanism and support system for as long as Mike can remember. And as much as Mike hates to admit it pre-season-5, he DOES need them. In Season 4, he got through situations that would've been impossible for him to navigate without Vito and beat challenges that would've been impossible to surmount without Svetlana and Manitoba (and he loves Chester too, even if he isn't always the most outwardly useful). That's not even to mention the emotional support (as shown by Svetlana's "Mike is the best" pep talk in Season 5) that he probably received from them over the years as well. As much as he hated them, they're so important to him.

The worst possible punishment Mal can inflict is cutting off all of his access to that support system.

To be fair, he did this to all the other alters too. But for Mike, it was the only thing he did. He felt that taking Mike away from the alters on its own would be enough to incapacitate and demoralize him. And he probably knew that it would prove a point-- you need them. You need us. And now it's too late.

But keep this in mind-- when Mal went into dormancy, he left behind a system that was constantly fighting amongst itself for control, that couldn't agree on anything (except for getting rid of him), and was bickering every time they interacted. So this is the lens that Mal constructs his prison with.

He doesn't count on the system working together! What he hopes for is that, even if one of them managed to escape, they 1. wouldn't bother looking for the others and would try to do everything themselves, which would leave them shut out of the tower, and 2. even once they did realize they needed to gather up everyone else, they would be too distracted by infighting to actually do anything to take him down.

And that's probably what season 4 Mike-- the Mike that Mal knew-- would've tried to do. He wasn't counting on the fact that the system would now be working towards functional multiplicity by the time he came out of dormancy! And it caused them to defeat him much sooner than he would've anticipated.

(Quick note: I know integration =/= death in DID, but I used the term "kill" here in some places because I feel like that's how Mal would view it. Literally none of this has anything to do with accurate DID because Total Drama is so so inaccurate and the absolute worst.)

Also, here's a theory I like: I don't think Mal would've just built a self-destruct button on his own life. He wouldn't build a button capable of killing him and then put it in a place where someone else could access it, even if the chances (in his mind) of them accessing it would be really remote. So I think the button was set up in such a way that whoever pressed it would become the core. It wasn't truly intended to be used by anyone except Mal. It was a final failsafe measure. Even if the system managed to work together long enough to free each other, reach the tower, and ascend the stairs, Mal was hoping that-- upon realizing that this button could give any of them the life they so desperately wanted as of pre-Season-4, and that if anyone but them pressed it, it would kill them-- the alters would return to squabbling, fighting for their lives, for long enough for Mal to intercede and ultimately take control. Just like Mal never counted on them working towards functional multiplicity, he also never counted on them being able to agree upon integration.

Why didn't Mal just press the button at the first opportunity? I don't know. Dramatic villainous timing? Lingering feelings of affection for the other alters? Perchance.

Anyway. I know TDAS is a horribly written season in literally every other aspect, and also that the writers probably didn't put THIS level of thought into things, but I read too deep into Total Drama as a hobby so I will be putting this much thought into it forever and ever and ever. :)

Today, according to Clare Foran, Manu Raju, and Morgan Rimmer of CNN, House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told his Republican colleagues that he will not bring forward the bipartisan immigration bill senators have been working on for months, calling it “absolutely dead.”

Although Johnson insisted in November that border security was so crucial that he wouldn’t bring up aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and Gaza until such legislation was attached to it, Trump has made it clear he wants immigration and border security left on the table for him to use as an issue in his run for the presidency.

Instead of addressing border security through legislation, House Republicans instead are moving forward with their plan to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. They wrote articles of impeachment even before holding hearings. Today, members of the House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing to mark up those articles, which claim that Mayorkas committed high crimes and misdemeanors because he allegedly breached the public trust and refused to enforce immigration law.

In all our history, only one cabinet officer has been impeached. William Belknap, whose eight years as secretary of war under President U. S. Grant had been marked by ostentatious displays of wealth and apparent kickbacks from army contracts, was charged with corruption in March 1876 just hours after he tearfully handed Grant his resignation.

The House charged Belknap with “criminally disregarding his duty as Secretary of War and basely prostituting his high office to his lust for private gain.” The Senate agreed that it had jurisdiction to hold an impeachment trial even for a former government official, for an officer should not be able to escape justice simply by resigning. After hearing more than 40 witnesses, a majority of senators voted to convict Belknap on each of five charges, but no vote reached the necessary two-thirds threshold for conviction, and he was therefore acquitted.

Almost 150 years later, the impeachment of Mayorkas would be the second effort to impeach a cabinet member. Yet there is no suggestion that Mayorkas has done anything but try to implement the law, even as the administration has repeatedly asked for more funding to make it possible for him to do his job.

In the hearing today, Representative Seth Magaziner (D-RI) noted that “across the system, we are at and above capacity, and so, what should the secretary do? The secretary, because he has not received the funding to provide adequate detention capacity, has to use his judgment for who to detain and who to release. That is not illegal. It is certainly not impeachable. And it is the exact same kind of discretion that every other director before him has used. In the last two years of the Trump administration, 52% of migrants apprehended at the southern border were released, not detained…. Nearly a million people. I did not hear my Republican colleagues trying to impeach the secretary or acting secretary under the Trump administration during those years. But here they are, trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for doing the exact same thing.”

Rather than passing the laws the country needs, the extremist Republicans appear to be determined to tee up an issue on which Trump can run for president in 2024. House speaker Johnson has demanded “ZERO” illegal crossings into the U.S., but this is a standard that no previous homeland security secretary has met because it is impossible to wall off every single means of entering this country by water, air, or land. And—despite Republicans’ false claims that Biden has established “open borders”—immigrants were more likely to be released into the country during Trump's term than during Biden’s.

What is going on here is an attempt of the extremist Republicans to undercut the administration by attacking a key cabinet officer not for actual misbehavior but on policy grounds.

There is no chance the Senate, dominated by Democrats, will convict Mayorkas even if the House, with its razor-thin Republican majority, impeaches him, but the extremist minority in the House that is going after him is attempting to set a precedent that a minority can stop the government from functioning.

The cost of that obstruction has been clear in domestic politics over government funding, but it has now become a global issue over the question of U.S. support for Ukraine. Johnson had said he would not bring forward a bill to provide supplemental funding for Ukraine unless it included measures for increased border security; now his rejection of a bill to provide that border security threatens Ukraine aid.

Ukraine is defending itself against an invasion by Russia, but the struggle there is larger than one between two countries: it is the question of whether the rules-based international order put in place after World War II will survive, or whether the world will go back to a system in which stronger countries can gobble up less powerful ones.

Military aid for Ukraine is widely popular among Americans and among American lawmakers, who recognize the larger questions at stake. But extremist Republicans are siding with Trump, who has made his preference for Russia and its autocratic leader over Ukraine clear. The realization that a few extremist Republicans are scuttling Ukraine aid has prompted officials from both parties to warn of the consequences if the U.S. stops providing support to Ukraine.

In Foreign Affairs today, Central Intelligence Agency director Wililam Burns noted that the war has weakened Putin’s Russia significantly. Aid to Ukraine has amounted to less than 5% of the U.S. defense budget, “a relatively modest investment with significant geopolitical returns for the United States and notable returns for American industry,” he wrote.

“For the United States to walk away from the conflict at this crucial moment and cut off support to Ukraine would be an own goal of historic proportions,” Burns said. The secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Jens Stoltenberg, has been in Washington, D.C., this week, urging Republicans to back the aid, if only on the grounds that most of the money appropriated goes to support jobs in the U.S.

The man behind the extremists, Trump, was in the news today for the fact that the political action committees that back him spent about $50 million covering his legal bills in 2023. That money came from donors and arrived primarily in the months after the 2020 presidential election, when Trump lied that he had actually won the election and needed financial support to challenge the results.

after owens murder mike has been very stressed which has lead to mal fronting more and more. in idwbf mal isnt "evil" nor are most of the characters, its mostly a story of no ones really a good or bad guy except for sierra because yknow, murder. but anyways after all stars mal starts to regret the decisions hes made during the seasons, because deep down his headmates (is that the correct term hdvsj) are like family to him. however alejandro and duncan are there to reassure him that they will love him no matter what, he goes through somewhat of a redemption arc and while he still has a short temper and can be a little angsty, he tries to be better thanks to the support of the people around him and the other alters in the system so yeah

for zee like ive said this takes place 15 years in the furture while the reboot is airing so hes the way he is in the show

Alejandro’s confessional: “if Eric was in our team I think I could have convinced him to join me in a alliance, despite our past Eric wants the millions as much as I do, and right now Heather and Daniel are both threats!”

Eric: “yeah I do have Sam, Sierras, Mike, Zoey, Cameron and Gwen’s trust. They are friends to me. And I’m trying to get Scott to ally with me too. So yeah”

Alejandro: “then perfect ally with me and we get rid of Jo, Heather, Courtney and Duncan when the time is right what do you say?”

Eric: “we start taking people out depending on how much of a threat they are. I don’t want to double cross anyone, so when the merge comes and it’s just us 7 I’d be honest and say that’s when our alliance breaks and everyone is on their own if they want.”

Sierra: “what if it back fires?”

Eric: “I never thought of that”

Chris: “six points to four! It ain’t over yet!”

Eric: “which villain is left? And which heroes al left?”

Sierra: “if I’m correct, Jo is the only villain left and heroes, is Mike Zoey, and I think Courtney who might have used Sam as human shield.”

Eric: “perfect! If we lose let’s vote Courtney!”

Sierra: “really?you want us to lose?”

Eric: “not at all I love the spa hotel! But if no thanks to Courtney we lose she should be out next”

McCarthy seized Bacon’s threat to strike a deal with Democrats as a way of scaring the far right into backing him; it may be the strongest argument he has. “If we don’t do this right, the Democrats can take the majority,” he told Newsmax. “If we play games on the floor, the Democrats can end up picking who the Speaker is.”

In October, when the prospective majority looked bigger, McCarthy was careful not to oversell an agenda based on vengeance. He was sending a message to congresspeople such as Bacon, who badly wants to legislate. Before the midterms McCarthy said, “I think the country doesn’t like impeachment used for political purposes at all. . . . I think the country wants to heal and . . . start to see the system that actually works.”

Since then, he’s issued threats about investigating Biden and his Cabinet, signalled that he’s willing to oppose raising the country’s debt ceiling, and suggested that he’ll investigate the January 6 Committee. On November 22nd, he travelled to El Paso to deliver a menacing speech about immigration and the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas: “If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action, and every failure to determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiries.” A number of Republicans I interviewed said that impeaching Mayorkas would count as a “moderate” outcome in the 118th Congress.

“The debt limit scares the shit out of me,” Kinzinger told me. “Because here’s the thing. In the past, Boehner or Ryan can eventually cut a deal and rely on fifty of us to vote for it. . . . It’s going to be hard for McCarthy to cut deals. That freaks me out.”

It is an indication of the state of the Republican conference that McCarthy’s most clear-eyed critics still see him as the only rational check left. He may embody a vast range of contradictory identities and principles, but at least one set of them dates to the pre-Trump era. Mike Madrid, who worked with McCarthy in California and went on to co-found the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump group, told me that McCarthy was “the last person I felt comfortable being critical of.” He had trouble believing that “my Kevin” was his Kevin, he said. “Which guy was he all along?”

Recently, McCarthy has been in marathon meetings with members of the Freedom Caucus, trying to reach agreements on changes to the House rules. The one demand he has actively resisted is the “motion to vacate the chair,” the strategy that pressured Boehner: it would allow a single member to force a vote on McCarthy’s ouster. It’s the only deal breaker for McCarthy because it’s the only one that directly threatens his Speakership. He appears to be flexible on nearly everything else.

I know I always call them “the emo band”, but they’re not really one set subculture. I mean, Duncan’s punk, Alejandro’s emo, Mal’s a metalhead, and Zoey’s goth at her core, but if you asked me to list their songs I’d give you an MCR album. Which makes me wonder, if they’re this universe’s MCR, does Twilight exist? Does 50 Shades exist? Does After exist, but as Drama Brothers? Anyway, their #1 rival band is the Drama Brothers. They also all kiss sometimes. They consist of:

Zoey - lead vocalist, can not play an instrument (represented in logo as a pink violet)

Mike (Mal/Svetlana) - guitar and bassist AND stunt artist (Svetlana) (represented in logo as a blue forget me not)

Duncan - drummer (represented in logo as a green button pom)

Heather - manager/keys (represented in logo as a white……..heather)

Alejandro - guitarist and vocalist (represented in logo as a red rose) (added to the band as competition to Justin)

Prime Time Lobotomy

Dark folk band composed of loons (affectionate and serious). Occasionally, they have screamo-like vocals with their fairy folk instrumentals. They’re probably all sapphics but I won’t say who dates who. The women:

Dawn - lead vocalist, but plays the flute when not singing.

Izzy - fiddle player, constantly tries to convince Dawn to let her yodel in the middle of random songs. She says she IS the lobotomy in the band name.

Jo - acoustic guitar. She was a last minute addition, but was convinced by Dawn. She said her soul needed some fun.

Eva - hand drums, or anything she can bang on.

Courtney was a ghostwriter who wrote music for various artists, who after her teenage years put out her own songs on YouTube and became an internet singer. She eventually became a big pop star, and that’s where she’s at now. I’d say she’s like… this universe’s Taylor? But I don’t know if I CAN say that

True goth girl. She writes on her own, but doesn’t really put any music out; she was accepted into the battle of the bands through a random raffle. Princess Charm School style. The first friend she really makes in this whole thing is Courtney. Courtney finds her weird, but… charming.

José

Before Alejandro joined System Flowers, he was in a duo music act with his brother. While their act was extremely successful, it was obvious José was the favorite and he knew it. He’d constantly put Alejandro down and take any spotlight he had. One performance Alejandro has enough of his bullshit and they have a very violent split, and he joins this competition as a way to get back at him.

They’re married :) talk show hosts, a lot easier to talk to than Chris.

Senate Dems Might Seek to Dismiss or Table Mayorkas Charges

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has been mum about how the chamber will handle the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, but multiple media outlets are reporting that Democrats plan to quickly dismiss the charges before any trial commences.

Democrats have several options at their disposal to short-circuit a trial, including tabling the charges or dismissing them, which they need only a simple majority to do.

But Senate Republicans persuaded House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to delay until Monday the delivery of the articles of impeachment to the Senate to buy more time to pressure Democrats to hold a trial, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday. The articles were scheduled to be delivered Wednesday.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., the chamber's No. 3 Democrat, said Tuesday the Senate majority is going to treat Mayorkas' impeachment "with the seriousness it deserves."

"It's completely political. It's not serious," she said, according to Politico. "We will do what we have to do, and we'll work with Republicans to dispose of it, as quickly and appropriately as we can. We'll see how it goes. But we will do what is necessary and legal and appropriate. And dispose of it as soon as possible."

Mayorkas is the 22nd government official, and second Cabinet member, to be impeached. The House approved two articles of impeachment over his handling of the crisis at the southern border: willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law; and breach of public trust.

The Senate has held a trial in all but one case of impeachment. In 1873, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Delahay of Kansas, appointed by Abraham Lincoln, was impeached on charges of being intoxicated on the bench. But Delahay resigned before the House drew up articles of impeachment, so no trial was held.

"The Senate has never in its history tabled an impeachment. Never," Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., said in a news release. "In the more than 200 years that this body has existed, the House of Representatives has impeached an official 21 times, and we have never once tabled the impeachment. Not once.

"Now, Sen. Schumer may also try to dismiss these charges instead of tabling them, but that's never been done before either. If the Senate dismisses these charges without a trial, it will be the first time in the Senate's long history that it has dismissed impeachment charges against an official it has jurisdiction over without that official first resigning — and that's a fact."

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., also has called for Schumer to hold a "full and fair" impeachment trial.

"Secretary Mayorkas has intentionally failed to secure the border in the three years since his swearing in," Tuberville said in a news release obtained by Newsmax. "I will be voting to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. … I expect Senate Democrats will try to table the articles of impeachment and sweep Biden's border bloodbath under the rug.

"Every Democrat in the House already voted to save Mayorkas' job, effectively endorsing the crisis at the border. How many more Americans have to die before the Democratic Party takes seriously the drugs, human traffickers, murderers, and terrorists flooding across the border?"

YESSSSSS MIKE REMEMBERS ALL OF ZOEYS PLUSHIE LORE he may have trouble with remembering things due to dissociation but he always remembers the tiniest details regarding zoeys special interests the rest of the system is actually surprised. mal makes fun of him for being a lovey dovey loser (as if mal doesnt also pick up on small details when it comes to whoever you ship him with hes just not vocal about it cuz hes EVIL /affectionate)

I think Mike would do what I do and keep a little notebook with him at all times to write down anything and everything that he doesn’t want to forget (the notebook’s just a scattered array of bulleted lists and paragraphs and random numbers with the occasional doodle here and there and random post it notes shoved in). And he thinks every single thing Zoey tells him is of The Utmost Importance so whenever she’s talking he’s just scribbling away in that thing like a news reporter

also re: Mal noticing little details. now anon, I am. a Malejandro. and I think that even post-TDAS, Alejandro still sleeps in a sleeping bag, and even just sometimes just chills in one of being in an open space gets too overwhelming, and Mal sees him do that and is like “huh. well that IS weird, but I don’t want him to FEEL weird” so Mal comes to their next hangout prepared and when Alejandro gets in his sleeping bag Mal just. Rolls out a sleeping bag of his own and gets in like it’s no big deal. and neither of them acknowledge it or bring it up later. In Mal’s mind this is the nicest thing he’s ever done for anyone

..."A House GOP effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas failed in an embarrassing fashion Tuesday as three Republicans joined Democrats in voting against what would have been the second-ever impeachment of a Cabinet official.

The 214-216 vote is a stunning loss for a GOP that has faced continual pressure from its right flank to impeach a Biden official, even as the party has waffled over which one to focus on.

The failure came about because of the surprise appearance in the chamber of Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who showed up unexpected to vote against the bill.

Republicans entered the vote with two expected “no” votes, but then a third House GOP lawmaker, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), also voted against impeachment.

A fourth Republican, Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah), the vice chair of the GOP conference, then flipped his vote to “no” seconds before the vote closed, a procedural move that allows the conference to bring the legislation back to the floor at a later date.

Republicans had accused Mayorkas of “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law,” claiming he violated immigration laws by failing to detain a sufficient number of migrants.

No administration has ever detained all illegal migrants, and immigration law experts who have weighed the claim determined Mayorkas did not violate any laws.

Republicans also accused him of “breach of public trust.”

(The Center Square) – Border security is a top priority for Republicans in Congress in 2024, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, said ahead of another congressional delegation trip scheduled Wednesday in Eagle Pass, Texas.

The area has been hard hit by illegal border crossers and is at the center of several lawsuits between the federal government and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott over border barriers.

The congressional delegation will be briefed by law enforcement and local officials about current conditions and hear concerns raised by residents living along the Texas-Mexico border.

Lawmakers also will discuss their plans for this year after Congress adjourned in December without agreeing on funding packages for Israel and Ukraine, which were tied to funding for border operations. Opponents of the funding packages have argued no more taxpayer dollars should be sent overseas. Instead, funding should be prioritized on helping Americans struggling with high inflation and securing the border.

Before the Christmas holiday, Johnson sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling on him to secure the border while also blaming him for the crisis.

“The southern border of our nation is being overrun and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is at a breaking point. This catastrophe requires your administration’s full attention and commitment,” he wrote.

Johnson also cited record numbers of illegal entries, record fentanyl seizures, “countless children and adults” who’ve been trafficked into the U.S., the impact on local communities by violent criminals and Americans being “more vulnerable to a terrorist attack” after Biden took office.

He reiterated claims made by Abbott and others that the border crisis “is the direct result of your administration’s policies.” He said the president has “clearly undermined America’s sovereignty and security by ending the Remain in Mexico policy, reinstating catch-and-release, suspending asylum cooperative agreements with other nations, ignoring existing restraints on the abuse of parole, and halting border wall construction.”

The solution, Johnson said, includes implementing “statutory reforms designed to restore operational control at our southern border,” which “must start now, and it must start with you.”

The letter urges Biden to “immediately take executive actions … to stem the record tide of illegal immigration.” The administration argues the executive actions that have been taken are providing an orderly, humane process to allow more people to enter the U.S.

Johnson called on the president to end the Obama-era catch-and-release policy it reinstated after the Trump administration abolished it, and to turn back or detain all illegal foreign nationals apprehended between ports of entry. The administration has argued in several lawsuits filed over its policies that it does not have enough space to detain everyone illegally entering, which is why they are being released into the country. Plaintiffs argue this policy violates laws established by Congress and that releasing people en masse into the country, instead of processing them for removal, is illegal.

Johnson also called on the president to “stop exploiting” the parole system, when the administration created more parole programs than previous administrations and has said it doesn’t plan on stopping them. He also called on the president to negotiate with Mexico to reinstitute the Remain in Mexico program after both presidents met roughly one year ago and expressed no plans on doing so.

He called on the president to “immediately renew construction of the border wall” after the administration already announced it was doing so in certain areas.

While Johnson urged the president “to regain operational control of the border,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas argues operational control exists. And when announcing record high illegal border crossing data for November, CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller said the agency needed more funding from Congress to process more people into the U.S.

U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., has scheduled hearings this month to address the border crisis. The committee released a series of reports after a nearly year-long investigation into "the causes, costs, and consequences of the crisis at the Southwest border and how the reckless decision-making and legally dubious policies” of the president and Mayorkas “have precipitated the worst border crisis in American history."

The fifth report was released last month, as well as interview transcripts with Border Patrol chiefs who explained how “illegal aliens are spreading the word the border is open;” and agents being reassigned to process and release “illegal aliens into the country rather than patrolling the border between ports of entry” has increased security risks.

The border trip in Eagle Pass comes as a record number of known, suspected terrorists are being apprehended by CBP agents—including an Iranian national with terrorist ties who was arrested on Dec. 21 near Niagara Falls, New York.

In the first three months of fiscal 2024, 80 KSTs were apprehended, with the majority, 46, at the northern border.

These apprehensions are on track to exceed fiscal 2023 apprehensions of 736. The majority of them, 487, or 66%, were apprehended at the northern border.
