I hate Ajax the Lesser, but it is hilarious how he got smited by so many gods so many times, only to ultimately brag that no god seems able to smite him, and then getting smited by a god for saying it.

Do you think that after Telamonian Ajax's death Lokrian Ajax became "Ajax the greater by default" or did the Achaeans keep referring to him as Ajax the lesser just cause?

I am surprised many straight up misjudge Agamemnon
I am Greek and i was intrigued by his character and it was sad that he had to sacrifice Iphigenia but i didn't judge him or anything. Later with Cassandra as well he had a tragic end but no one would say bad things about him
It was more like "oh well that's sad.. anyway onto the next thing" no need for drama or anything just read the story and appreciate it 🤣
Hi! 💖✨ Yes, is very sad that he gets so much gratuitous hatred. 😪Unfortunately, as it happens in the Greek mythology "fandom" most people don't even read the sources and have stereotyped ideas of what the characters are (like people woobifying Hades and turning Persephone into some scary evil goddess).
The fact that people dare to claim that "he is the worst character from Greek mythology" says a lot, because i) they are either ignorant about all the other characters in Greek mythology who did horrible things, ii) or it speaks of their own morality. That people can easily ignore characters like Ajax the Lesser who raped Cassandra in Athena's temple, Heracles who raped Auge -priestess of Athena- in her temple and other women, Thyestes (Agamemnon's uncle) who raped his own daughter and drove her to suicide, Atreus (Agamemnon's father) who killed his nephews and cooked them, etc... etc... In years, I have NEVER seen ANYONE saying "Ajax the Lesser got what he deserved" or that Ajax the Lesser "is the worst character of mythology". I mean, through centuries, for the ancient Greeks Agamemnon was seen as a king in love with Cassandra, while Ajax was shown as an example of hybris and his actions condemned. People erase characters like Ajax the Lessers from their retellings while villainizing Agamemnon (like... every single feminist retelling has Agamemnon raping and mistreating Cassandra while for the ancients his love was of public connotation and he was always willing to protect her, he died trying to do so!! 😭)
And yes, even the ancients understood that Agamemnon's sacrifice of Iphigenia was tragic and he was always depicted as a suffering father reluctant to compelling to what the goddess commanded. And there is no source approving Agamemnon's death. He was admired by the ancients and even Euripides (who portrayed a lot of Homeric characters in bad light) depicted him as being compassionate towards Cassandra (and her mom and sister).
I think that a factor that aggravates the situation is that a lot of people fall into the cheap feminism of "girl-bossing" characters who murder men as if it was some kind of triumph for gender equality, so they idolize Clytemnestra -erasing all of her misogyny- and villainize Agamemnon.
😪 I really love him and I will do my best to share information to highlight his positive traits <3 !!
