Wake up babe, new tournament just dropped!

What's this one about? The best ship? NO!! This one is the best shipname and submissions are open! They go in the form linked at the bottom of this post. Submissions via asks or using the tumblr submit function will be ignored.

Rules

No Harry P*tter because I am trans and love pissing off terfs. No other banned media tho because it's not about the ships themselves, just their names.

I'd like to focus on portmanteau style names but if it isn't too far fetched I will accept other styles as well.

For me personally, the primary factor by which I will cast my vote will the humour but you're free to submit and vote by other factors.

Please only submit names that are bearable to a tumblr audience. Which I consider wider parameters than a mainstream audience tbh. E.g. a shipname with "faggot" in it is acceptable. However, one containing the name of a violent crime isn't. Unless it's funny. But no sex crimes under any circumstances.

On that note, even though we're not judging the ships themselves, use reason when submitting. Nobody wants to be reminded about minor x adult ships. Most other things are allowed but only if the name is funny enough and I reserve the right to change this rule.

The shipname doesn't have to be the most used one for that ship but it should be reasonably well known within the community of its shippers unless it's a portmanteau style one. Am I writing this exception in so I can submit Mennis for Macdennis? Perhaps.

READY FOR TAKE-OFF!

The Top Gun Advent Calendar Date Claims (+ship claims) is now live to the public! We've had an excellent turn out from the interest gauge, but still have room for more.

While we've got enough sign-ups to run through December 24th, we're a little short of being able to fill out all of December. If there are enough sign-ups, we may extend the event into January 2024 as well!

This form will remain open until the end of September or until we hit an amount of sign-ups that seems sufficient. An announcement will be made 24 hours prior to the form closing, so if you're on the fence you'll want to keep an eye out for that post.

Hey guess what

Did you guess "new blog in the smash or pass ecosystem but this one specialises in trek characters"? I fucking hope so. Because that's all I've got here!

I was inspired of course by @charactersmashorpass / @charactersmashorpass-2 but also @smashingorpassing and especially @ace-attorney-smash-or-pass who put the fandom specificity idea in my head.

Please only interact (this includes submitting characters) if you are 18 or older. If you're part of a system, this has to be true both for all fronters at the time of any given interaction and for the body. All polls will run for a week, if one doesn't I posted it wrong and you're free to point it out.

Rules for character submissions:

Has to be from a licensed Star Trek medium. Beta canon is fine, OCs are not. Unless it's very funny, then I might make a (rare!) exception.

They don't have to be a major character or even appear more than once but it'd be good if there was enough canon information for people to make an informed decision. Having a canon appearance (that isn't super blurry) would almost always fulfil this requirement but you may have to provide an image yourself.

It is not a requirement for it to be feasible to have sex with them. If you wanna fuck a non-corporeal character, we'll assume you'd figure out a way. It will be assumed they also really wanna try to have sex with you if you choose smash.

Controversially, I will not have a universal minimum age but they do have to pass the Harkness test which includes being of sexual maturity for their species (tho I'll rule they also have to be of more general maturity for their species, some real life humans become "sexually mature" before their teens but that doesn't mean you should fuck them; characters from asexually reproducing species will ofc only be judged on overall maturity). If their age is unknown or it's unknown when their species would be considered mature, I will consider the way the narrative treats them. So TL;DR: Kes is fine, Zero is not.

(As an extension of this, artificial life forms designed to function like adults will not be disqualified based on how long they've been active while artificial life forms designed to emulate children/minors will never qualify. Where this line is drawn in unclear cases will be decided by me on a case by case basis. So the EMH is fine, Lal is not.)

If the character is shown at different life stages, I will judge based on the one people are most likely to think of when they think of that character. So Spock is fine, Wes is not. This rule will not change if you submit a picture of them as an adult.

That said, you are allowed to submit specific versions of a character, including alternate timeline versions, if they pass all other requirements, eg you can submit specifically Solid Odo or Dilf Harry from the episode Timeless, but you still can't submit adult Naomi from Shattered.

I reserve the right to reject any submission, especially if I have reason to believe it was made in bad faith, but other than that scenario I don't think this is likely to happen.

ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATE (aka spoiler-tagging update)

we are very very close to a big big day for pjo!!!! you know what that means!!! updates on spoiler tagging!! (plus some non-pjo stuff at the end!)

from here on out:

i will tag all tv show content with 'pjotv'

once i've seen the first two episodes, i will begin tagging all references to anything that has not been in trailers with 'pjotv spoilers'. haven't decided yet how long i'll tag spoilers, but i'll definitely make an announcement before i stop.

once the first episode of the show is released, i'm thinking about tagging all pjo/hoo spoilers beyond however far the show has caught up to as 'pjo book spoilers' for people who are watching the show and haven't read the books (e.g. for posts discussing later books and whatnot). i do already and plan to continue tagging discussion of specific books with the acronym for the title (tlt, som, ttc, botl, tlo, tlh, son, moa, hoh, boo, cotg; plus pjo for the first series and hoo for the second series; toa if i ever post anything trials of apollo, but i've only read book one, so that's mostly moot), but some things are more general, like character arcs. would anyone who follows me be interested in a broader pjo book spoilers tag like this? if so, lmk--drop me a reply here, a dm, an anon ask, whatever :)

in the future, assuming more seasons, i'll probably come up with special tags for pjotv s2 and pjotv s2 spoilers and whatnot, but for now we're going to keep it more general.

in non-show-related news, i finally read cotg yesterday!! haven't gone interacting with content on that yet, but i probably will soon, so i'll be tagging that with 'cotg spoilers' (along with cotg and pjo)

for people who don't want to see any percy jackson stuff at all (though i really do encourage you to give the show a try!!), i tag everything related to the show, the books, the spin-off series, the musical ('tlt musical'), you name it, with 'riordanverse'

NON-PERCY JACKSON:

i finally finished miraculous ladybug season 5! i haven't seen the paris special or the movie yet though. when things i post/reblog come from specific episodes, i'll try to tag 'ml [name of episode]', but my memory is pretty shaky and it's easy to get things mixed up, so i'll make sure to generally tag 'ml s5 spoilers' and maybe also 'ml spoilers'.

ummm other things i've read/watched lately:

read the hunger games prequel and saw the movie! enjoyed both! haven't posted about it much but if i do i'll tag it 'tbosas' and probably also 'tbosas spoilers', along with 'thg'

read they both die at the end. don't anticipate a lot of posting on that, but if i do, i'll tag it 'tbdate'

been watching gravity falls! most of the way through season one. probably won't look at anything for fear of spoilers til i'm done done, but i'll tag it 'gf'

in general i try to be thorough in my tagging! i usually tag things with at least the acronym for the fandom/main media source. always feel free to lmk if you'd like me to tag for something specific, especially when it comes to spoilers, and stay safe out there!! <3

I know Lyn added in a reblog that "personal notes" were a thing of the past with regards to tags, but I want to clarify that I don't mind "personal notes" or commentary in tags at all. I do it myself, and actually get a huge kick out of reading them most of the time.

What I DO mind are creepy sexual comments, character hate, tagging my ocs or ship as your own, blatant spoilers right after a patch... Just please be courteous and aware that everyone can see what you're saying, especially OP.

Just to clarify! Enough of this, back to regularly scheduled programming.

Hey just a head's up: Please, please make sure to spell check the shipname before you submit it. I've received at least two misspelled ones so far out of 15* submissions and I only noticed those by chance. I have no way to verify every single spelling so you have to either submit it correctly right away or (if you've sent it already) issue a correction to me.

If you struggle with spelling for any reason, please copy paste either the shipname into the form or your form reply into the search bar of either tumblr (or other fandom site) or a general search engine to confirm you have it right. It's literally about the shipnames, in many cases including their exact spelling, so this is very important. Please, please do this for me. That's the one thing that needs to be spelled correctly, at least in the first field. Please
