Stray Kids and Cozy Late Night Dates
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥[bang chan] reading books in funny voices …
Laughter echoed in your apartment, contrasting the dark aesthetic of the night. But aesthetic is nothing compared to the joy you feel when Chan puts on his best goblin voice and reads out sentences like “‘It isn't fair, my precious, is it, to ask us what it's got in it's nassty little pocketsess?’”
“I bet it was rice,” Chan suddenly interrupted his own reading thoughtfully. You snorted and slapped his bicep, settling back in your previous comfortable position in his lap before he could even react. He frowned. “Hey! It could be! It could be rice! Rice is small!”
“Why are you so passionate about rice in pockets?” you wondered.
Chan gasped. “I’m not! I’m just saying: Gollum could’ve just answered ‘Rice’”—there was the goblin voice again— “and Frodo or— Wait, what was his name?”
“Bilbo!” You couldn’t help but laugh. The hobbit’s name was surely written several times on the page.
But your boyfriend was stubborn. “Bilbo would’ve been wrong! I bet my last brain cell!”
“Is that where you’ve been losing them? Stop betting brain cells and continue reading, babe,” you helped him lift the book back up.
He pouted at you. “But I’m right.”
“Sure you are, baby.”
❥[lee minho] bad pick-up lines to make each other laugh ...
“The stars shining in the sky are nothing compared to the stars in your eyes,” you flirted as seductively as you could without bursting into laughter.
Minho snorted, barely sparing you a glance as he remained preoccupied with his own phone. “Weak.”
You pointed an accusatory finger. “You almost laughed!”
“Almost doesn’t count,” he decided then and there – you had no recollection of this rule. Before you could word your protest, he looked you in the eyes and bluntly declared, “Well, here I am. What are your other two wishes?”
“Bold of you to assume I wished for you,” you shot right back much to his amusement.
“Eh?!” He sat up straighter. “Are you saying my existence is not a wish come true? The insolence!”
You couldn’t help but laugh at how seriously he was taking it. That as your mistake and you realised that the moment your eyes caught the spark in his. “Wait, wait!”
“I WIN!” he declared and threw his arms up in the air.
You gasped. “That does not count! That wasn’t your pick-up line I was laughing at!”
“When did I ever say that the pick-up line had to make you laugh?” he teased, leaning in closer to brush his nose against yours before leaning back again with a laugh. “I win.”
You rolled your eyes. “One more round: best of three wins.”
❥[seo changbin] painting each other ...
“The longer we do this, the more I doubt this was a good idea,” you spoke through nervous laughter as the brush in your hand seemed to do everything but the one thing you needed it to do. “How do people do this on a daily basis and not cry?”
Changbin snorted. “They’re artists. They cry nevertheless.”
“That’s mean.”
“It’s the reality, baby— Did you steal my green again?” He glared at you.
You smiled at him as cutely as you could, trying to make your cheeks as prominent as possible as he kept his eyes on you. “Just a tiny bit.”
He rolled his eyes. “You’re right. This was a terrible idea.”
“Let’s never take date ideas from Hyunjin again, deal?” you offered, but to your surprise he protested loudly.
“I know you kind of hate this but…” His facial expression went from annoyance to cuteness a bit too quick. “It’s kind of fun though: painting you, in my favourite hoodie. It’s kind of like making a memento.”
“... Sure.”
“Plus, I’m sure my painting will look better than yours,” he added quickly before turning back to his sketchbook.
You wondered if you should even argue as you stared at the painting in your hand.
❥[hwang hyunjin] learning dances through Youtube ...
“This should be easy,” he mumbled as he hit play on the tenth tutorial of the night at 1:34 am. Before you could protest, he was pulling you to his chest, giggles erupting from you both when the force of collapse cost you your balance.
He soon smiled sweetly, holding your hand close to his chest. “Hi.”
“Hi there,” you replied, staring at him. Had his eyes always looked so beautiful? Were they always sparkling? Just when you thought he couldn’t get any more perfect…
“Okay, ladies and gentlemen and everyone in-between! Let’s get this samba class going!” sounded from the tired Bluetooth speaker, forcing the both of you back to reality outside of beautiful chocolate skies and sparkling stars and cherry lips.
Your eyes widened as the instructor began the class. “Wait, samba?!”
“We’ve got this!” Hyunjin assured you, his arms already wrapping around you as per instruction. “Just trust me.”
You tilted your head doubtfully but uttered, “If you insis—Uegh!” He forced you to do a twirl like a tutorial an hour ago had suggested. You couldn’t hold back the squeal and the laugh that ripped through you as the room began spinning around. “Hyunjin! That’s not part of the choreography!”
“Then let’s make our own choreography!”
❥[han jisung] sampling random sounds for a song ...
“Okay, and now snap your fingers really fast!” He watched you intensely, headphones over his ears. “Faster!”
“I can’t do it any faster!”
He frowned before yelling out through laughter, “Are you even trying?”
“Jisung, my thumb hurts,” you took the chance to tell him.
“Well, that’s too bad,” he told you and turned to his computer before rapidly turning back to you with wide eyes. “Wait, but really? Does it hurt a lot?”
You put on your best pout and nodded, theatrically holding holding your hand. He grimaced and took your hand to look at it.
“It does look a little red,” he mumbled and then pressed a kiss to your thumb and pointer finger. “There, that should be better.”
“Only a little.”
He whined at you, as if he was the one that was hurt. “What do we do now?” You promptly found yourself sitting in his lap, his fingers reaching over to tickle your sides. “Does it still hurt, hm? Are you still hurt?”
Through giggles, you barely managed to mumble out a ‘no’. He hummed in question but made no move to stop tickling. “Does it still hurt?”
“N-No!”
Your laughter ceased alongside the tickles. He looked at you for a while – so adorable in his lap – before pushing you off and positioning you back at the mic.
“Let’s try again. With passion this time, please.”
❥[felix lee] watching films ...
“No, no, don’t cry,” you heard your boyfriend softly whisper as Rose let go of Jack’s hand.
Wiping your cheeks to confirm that you were, in fact, not crying, you turned to Felix and gave him a nice long look. “Babe, I’m not crying.”
“Well, I am not crying either,” he spoke as loudly as he could while rapidly blinking his eyes. “Definitely not crying. Not even a little bit.”
“... You can just ask me to hug you, you know?”
“But then… “ He glanced at you with sparkling eyes. “What if you let me go?”
“Felix.”
“I’m serious. If you hug me and I fall on the floor because you let go of me when I fully trust you, I’m telling Changbin,” he announced as he wrapped his arms around you tightly, eyes back on the TV screen. “Don’t let me go, Rose.”
“Just so we’re clear: he was okay with dying for her,” you spoke up after a while.
Felix sighed. “I know… Id die for you too, under any circumstances.”
“... You’re trying to make me cry too?”
“It’s unfair!”
❥[kim seungmin] picnic at midnight ...
You whined habitually when the strawberry bowl turned out to be out of your range. Seungmin paid it no mind at first but soon laughed at your grabby hands and pout.
“Why? You want more cake?” he teased as cutely as he could. Or maybe he wasn’t trying to be cute; it was hard to tell with him. He made a show of reaching for the cake container before changing directions. “Or a sandwich?”
You shook your head. His eyes lit up.
He changed direction towards your desired strawberries and you could almost taste the sweetness on your tongue… when he changed direction again and picked up a water bottle instead, offering it to you. “Do you want some water, my love?”
You let out another whine before softly slapping his shoulder. He howled in laughter, the melodious sound echoing back from the trees of the park. “Why? What do you want, baby? Use your words.”
“... Strawberries.”
“You can’t reach?” he continued teasing, patting your head to annoy you further. “You could’ve just said so, love.”
“I wouldn’t have trouble reaching,” you grumbled and poked his shoulder, “if you weren’t quite literally lying on top of me.”
He clicked his tongue but handed you a strawberry nevertheless. “And here I thought you loved my affectionate side.”
❥[yang jeongin] playing board games ...
“So, just so we’re clear, there are no actual rules to UNO,” Jeongin joked as he dealt the cards for the fifth time that night. At this point, he was past suspecting foul play — you were clearly cheating.
You stuck out your tongue. “It’s not my fault that you keep forgetting to say ‘UNO’.”
“I said ‘one’!” he protested with wide eyes and an even wider smile. The deck of cards was pointed at you in a manner that was clearly meant to be threatening but… Let’s be real: they were UNO cards. There are far more threatening things in this world.
“But that’s not ‘uno’!”
“Why would I say ‘uno’? I’m not Spanish,” he grumbled but dealt the cards anyway. “One more game and then we’re switching to ‘LIFE’.”
“Bet I’ll marry a doctor,” you joked as you picked up the cards, a plan formulating in your head as you saw the three ‘+2’ cards. Momentarily forgetting that your boyfriend had excellent hearing, you mumbled, “Oh, this is gonna be fun.”
Visibly deflating at your words, Jeongin all but slammed his cards down before glaring at you in exasperation. You offered a questioning look before he took the cards from your hands and placed them back in the deck.
He pouted before declaring, “We’re switching to a puzzle. At least you can’t win in a puzzle.”

Traits that make people terrible moderators
These are just some observations I've made being a moderator in multiple settings, in wonderful teams and bad teams, as well as being in communities that have absolutely festered due to poor moderation. Many of these traits are things you can identify before the person is even appointed a moderator in the first place. (Most of this applies to large-scale servers and/or communities, and isn't always applicable to small and/or personal servers. I am not writing some sort rule book absolutely everyone has to follow, these are just traits that would not make the mod-team cut, to me, you don't have to agree with me.)
Having any hesitation with confrontation. (being a moderator requires confrontation, this is not negotiable. if the idea of confronting difficult people gives you anxiety or panic attacks, don't apply to be a moderator)
Being too eager to confront and/or unable to use tact/kindness when confronting. (those that seek confrontation should not be moderators)
Gets personally offended easily. (any mod that is constantly getting into fights with other users because of perceived slights, will make the whole community feel unable to talk to the mod team)
Is incapable of repairative reading. (moderators need to be capable of reading the best out of someone and not jumping to negative conclusions)
Lacking in compassion. (using tact and kindness leads to faster, more permanent, diffusion of conflicts)
Views any confrontation as a personal attack. (being a moderator means getting a lot of questions, suggestions, and well-meaning 'confrontation' and needs to be met without hostility. ps: tact and firmness are not the same as hostility)
Cares more about their own wants than the server. This can manifest in the form of, in the case of a server/community created for a single individual, ignoring comforts/needs of the individual; in the case of a collective community, being unwilling to negotiate or compromise with the rest or the community/team. Just any abuse of power in general.
Likes to control others. (moderation is about cohesive harmony for a shared goal, not control)
Incapable of being objective and applying the same rules appropriately to all users. (those that expect exceptions for their friends or people they want to impress, or express any other bias of application of the rules, should not be moderators)
Incapable of following the rules, themselves. (if someone wasn't following the rules before they became a mod, it won't change when they do become a mod)
Wants to be a mod for the social collateral, not because they want the community to run smoothly. (those that are constantly vying for attention and validation, that then apply for being a mod, should not be made mods)
Lacks humility. (knowing when to admit you're wrong or have overstepped, is important to being a good moderator)
Lacks the self-awareness of knowing when to put something down and walk away. (as a moderator, self-moderation is a vital skill that must be learned to be able to moderate others)
Refuses to communicate directly and clearly in any given circumstance. (vague communication is bad moderation, any user being approached by a mod should know exactly what they did wrong, and what is expected for future change)
Is prone to soap-boxing/lecturing instead of being concise. (this goes back to communicating clearly and directly; being overly verbose and preachy can make it difficult to understand. You need to give room to allow the member you are confronting to talk and ask questions.)
Incapable of deferring to others with grace where appropriate. (knowing when you're not the best mod for the job, when you're lacking in information, when your ideas just won't work, or when you're compromised is important. and knowing how to properly delicate tasks is a Must for an admin)

Are there uhmm honorifics in russian? Like sir or ma'am or Herr? I'd like to know some family related ones, some business toned ones, and like, friendly ones between friendly friends.
Thank you for your time, kind admins
I love this question so much! This is gonna be long, oh my god. I'll start with some general information and then give some specific examples.
"Ты" and "вы"
So, unlike English, Russian allows two ways of addressing people instead of one.
"Ты"/"ty", which I'm going to spell as "T" to save time, is a casual "you", suitable for talking to a friend or colleague, to a family member, to a child, or to a stranger that you are reasonably sure is considerably younger than you.
"Вы"/"vy", which I'm going to spell "V", again to save time, is a polite "you", suitable for addressing a stranger, a person in a position of power such as a teacher, or a higher-ranking colleague, or someone presumably older than you.
This distinction is quite important.
Using T where V is required will make you sound disrespectful. People can actually get offended, especially older people who can very reasonably demand that you "don't T" them.
On the other hand, using V where T would be more suitable can create a very uncomfortable situation. The person might feel distanced, or worse - think you're mocking them, using a polite manner ironically.
Why does this matter?
Because using T or V defines the entire, uh, manner of your communication! Some words won't apply to people you're on V-terms with, and others won't apply to those you use T with!
Basically, I'm going to try and separate various honorifics and forms of address into these two categories and then try to fit various TF2 characters into these categories as well, based on what kind of manner I think Heavy would use with them.
It's also worth noting that using a certain manner with someone doesn't always mean they're gonna be using the same manner for you. For instance, a teenage student would always use V with a teacher, but a teacher would almost always use T.
So what does Heavy use?
Well, we know from the Russian dub of the game that he uses T with Medic.
He also uses V with the Engineer. I find it fascinating because they're about the same age and exactly the same rank - they're both mercenaries on equal rights - which means Heavy uses V out of pure respect and admiration.
He would definitely use V with the Administrator.
And with Miss Pauling too, even though she's younger than him. She's his boss, after all.
He would definitely use T with Scout.
With all the others it could go either way. He would definitely use V when they first met, but would eventually switch to T, as it often happens.
Oh, btw it pretty much never happens the other way. Using T is considered something of a "next step".
If you headcanon Pyro as nonbinary, Heavy might use V to avoid gendered language, but I won't go into details here.
Why is that important? He doesn't speak Russian to them.
Well, no, but he thinks in Russian! And he would think in T/V terms, too. And that would define the language he would use with them.
I promise the specific examples are coming, bear with me.
Let's talk about names.
"But I know all about names" no you don't.
Okay, as it functions in English, a person has a First Name, a Middle Name (or several), and a Last Name, which is their family name - "Tavish Finnegan DeGroot". Or, well, you could go about this even simpler and skip the middle name - "Dell Conagher".
In Russian middle names traditionally do not exist. I say "traditionally" because who knows what the young folks are up to these days, but by the proper naming conventions that would definitely be really important at the time Heavy was born, there are no middle names in the Russian language.
Instead, we have a patronymic. Well, a lot of them. A patronymic is your father's name with a proper ending attached to it. Think last names such as "Johnson" and "Stevenson" - yup, those were patronymics some hundred years ago.
How does that relate to honorifics?
There are a lot of ways to combine a First Name (F), a Last Name (L), and a Patronymic (P)!
L-F-P is the proper official model. It's not really used outside really formal business or legal procedures, such as getting married or getting sued. Or. Well. One of those two things, really.
F-P is the usual polite structure. If a Russian stranger wanted to be polite with Heavy, they would say "Михаил Whatever-you-headcanon-his-dad's-name-to-be-ович". If someone wanted to talk to Zhanna in that same manner, they'd have to say "Жанна Her-father's-name-овна". It's a very Gimli-son-of-Gloin kind of structure.
Some parents also use it mockingly to lightly scold their kids. "Яна Father-овна, what do you think you're doing?"
I just realized you probably need me to translit all that. Oh god, uh.
Mihail Whatever-you-headcanon-his-dad's-name-to-be-ovich.
Zhanna Her-father's-name-ovna.
I'm gonna type in Latin letters from now on. And I promise specific examples are coming!
Calling someone by just their patronymic is considered friendly and very, uh, familiar. Casual-like. Somewhat rude, even. You have to really make sure you're allowed to do that before you make an attempt.
A name typically has a full and a short form, much like in English. James - Jim, Mihail - Misha. Except in Russian, there's an even shorter short version, used only when addressing the person directly. It's used all the time, you should make sure to use that in writing, otherwise it sounds really unnatural.
Okay, great, can we get some SPECIFIC WORDS now?
Yeah!
Let's start with the ones you already know.
Well, it's the Soviet Union. How about "comrade"?
That one's fine, if overdone. It was really in use back then.
Except it doesn't really mean a comrade, as in "friend" of some sort. It's typically all very official, followed by a last name or a rank.
Yeah, a rank. Like a military rank. Soldier would be "Comrade Sargeant" - "товарищ сержант".
"Comrade Medic" would be a thing, too, as long as they're not too well-acquainted.
Pretty much any "Comrade Class" would work, except "Comrade Scout", because we're using T for him, remember? It doesn't go with a T! I told you it was important, ha.
Beware though, nobody says "comrade" these days. Ever. Not a thing.
So it's not like "sir" or "ma'am"?
Ah, no. Afraid not.
The closest to "sir"/"ma'am" I can think of is гражданин/гражданка, which is - don't laugh! - "citizen".
It's almost always followed by a last name, but never by a rank or title, so it wouldn't really work with the mercs. It's only for civilian context, you see?
We also don't pepper it into our regular speech. Where you'd say "yes, sir", we'd just say "yes".
I'm actually having trouble with this at work. I'm so very much not used to saying "sir" and "ma'am". It's not that I'm being disrespectful, but I constantly forget to say it! Argh.
Oh, "citizen" is also not in use anymore. Unless it's some police procedural on TV.
How do you address someone you don't know, then? What if you need to get someone's attention and you don't know their name and patronymic?
Well, just "мужчина"/"man" and "женщина"/"woman" is fine, really.
"Девушка"/"girl" and "девочка"/"girl (child)" if she's young.
"Молодой человек"/"young man" and "мальчик"/"boy" if he's young.
They're fine. They're only rude in English. We say them all the time. "Woman, you dropped something!", "Man, could you hold the door, please?", "Boy, where's your mom?". It's fine. It's polite, I promise.
What about family?
Ah, that depends on the family.
Here's a funny example from my own family. I have a grandma on my father's side. Well, my mother - her daughter-in-law - calls her "mom", but addresses her with a V, as a way of being respectful. I, on the other hand, although way younger, use T with her because she's my grandma and she doesn't mind at all and that's how she taught me to talk to her.
So it all depends on the kind of dynamic you have. The level of respect, the traditionalism of it, how old your folks are and how much they go outside.
Bear in mind you can absolutely cuss a bitch out while still using V.
And friends?
"Bro" migrated into Russian some years ago. We have the whole "брат-братан-братишка" (brother-brother (informal)-brother (small) shtick but it's a little, uh, complicated. It gets mocked a lot. There's a bit of a subculture around the people who say it.
Really, we just call people by their names. I'd love to see more of that in fics. Heavy wouldn't go "sis" @ Zhanna, but he would say "Zhann", as a shorter and more casual form of address. She'd call him "Mish". We love to see it. They're besties.
That's still not very specific though.
Ah, well, here's a few odd examples.
"Мужик"/"muzhik" is something Heavy would say. It means "man", but, like, in a casual and friendly manner. I say that to my friends who are men. He would say that to everyone but ONLY once he's on T-terms with them. I told you it was important. He wouldn't say it to Scout though. Maybe in a moment of transgender affirmation. Once. But never again.
"Чувак" is "dude" but it fucking sucks to say, idk, 0/10, would not say that. Adults never say it tbh. Kids these days don't say it either.
"Madam" (from French) was popular way back in the day. "Madmuazel" aka a bastardization of "Mademoiselle" is also out there but more sarcastic. Both used with V.
"Чел"/"chel", short for "chelovek" ("human") - another version of "man", basically. With T.
"Парень", "приятель" - guy, pal, pally, dude, fella. Can be genuine or sarcastic. Both male and used with T.
"Тётя" or "тёть" - kinda like ma'am but disrespectful. Literally means "aunt", figuratively - any woman who's any amount of years older than you and a bit of unpleasantness to have around. Not to confuse with "тётя [name]" which is literally "aunt [name]", in an affectionate way and not necessarily towards family.
"Дядя" or "дядь" - a male version of that. Also on both cases the second version is less respectful.
"Начальник" - "boss". Goes with T better than with V, ironically.
"Народ" - "people". Can be either really epic or really casual. A way to address multiple people.
"Братва" - "brotherhood" (derogatory). Sounds like. Uh, it's hard to explain. You guys remember Shark Tale? When, in Russian it's called Underwater Brotherhood, with that specific word for brotherhood. It has that kind of energy.
That's about it! There's a good Wiki page about these things, I recommend skimming through it, though some terms are a bit underexplained there in my opinion. Thanks for asking, and sorry if this post reads a bit haphazard. I'm rusty.

avatrice & books
// turning this into a whole post bc it got LONG. ty anon who asked these questions
who prefers audio and/or digital books over physical?
out of necessity they have a LOT of digital books. Cam actually dumps her whole contraband collection in Bea’s inbox while she & Ava are still en-route to Switzerland, so that Bea’s new phone lights up on the seat beside her & it’s the first thing that relaunches her brain like a crashed excel document, because Ava’s drooling onto the leg of her pants with her body curled up across two seats. all the lights in the train are down low, & she gets an email from Cam (on the OCS extranet) with the subject line “don’t tell Mom :)))”.
headcanon is that Cam has been selling literary contraband in cat’s cradle for years (in true Camila style with a barter system where she gives people pages she printed off on the admin office’s old printer & they give her things like ‘interestingly-shaped bullet fragments’ and ‘bags of Haribo starmix with a preferential ratio of love hearts and cola bottles to bears & rings’)
so yeah, Cam has a little online archive hidden away on the OCS servers, & Bea spends the journey to Switzerland reading a digitally dog-eared file of miscellaneous philosophy papers, which Cam has been grabbing for her because it’s like Beatrice catnip. and it becomes a little habit for Cam to walk into Bea’s room at cat’s cradle to find her doing crunches with the lights off. Cam doing the sibling thing where she flicks the light switch on and off five times until Beatrice stops and just lies on the floor with arms akimbo, scowling:
‘leave me alone Camila.’
‘okay, broody bones, guess you don’t want this paper i found called ‘do holes exist?’
cue Bea coming down to breakfast the next morning STILL furious, squinting angrily at the straw in Mary’s smoothie until Mary asks if she needs to put it into protective custody.
she reads it again on the train because she wants to be angry over something stupid. she reads the essay that made Cam spend a week hiding in the apse and saying ‘i’m batman’ whenever Beatrice went inside - Nagel’s ‘what is it like to be a bat?’ and she reads a bit of Beckett because she really does find ‘Waiting for Godot’ funny, & then she reads her old favourites which she has printed and folded in her drawer in cat’s cradle
she LOVES Kepler’s astronomica nova because he has all these asides in it, and Bea chuckles aloud in the train carriage as she always does when she remembers reading first about Kepler writing “ah, what a foolish bird i have been!” & when her head hurts from reading the original Latin she switches to Carl Sagan’s cosmos, reading about Kepler again, feeling it in her chest:
“Kepler was a brilliant thinker and a lucid writer, but he was a disaster as a classroom teacher. He mumbled. He digressed. He was at times utterly incomprehensible… He was distracted by an incessant interior clamor of associations and speculations vying for his attention.”
beatrice & kepler &
“Geometry provided God with a model for the Creation… Geometry is God Himself.”
when Ava wakes up, Bea is reading the Lewis & Lewis holes article for the third time, & Ava jolts a bit because she looks real mad, and kind of devastated, but then Bea smiles at her & Ava says:
“what’s wrong?”
“nothing, nothing.” a pause, “i just… holes are full of the substance they create an absence in.”
“i think i need a croissant before you explain that to me”
Bea prefers physical books. she likes the smell of them, and the feeling of holding the words in her hands, and how you can leave a bookmark inside of a book and feel suddenly and profoundly like you are alive, putting an ellipses straight into the world ‘…. to be continued’.
it’s why she likes Cam’s dumb print-offs even if Camila has long-since convinced the ink cartridge that it is not, in fact empty but it definitely is getting there. even though sometimes the words are shaved off and she has to infer the full shape of sentences - and if she does, well, it’s kind of like sudoku & it’s a bit like learning song lyrics off the radio where, very occasionally, the words you mishear are better than the real ones.
but she does appreciate the search functions on the digital books & papers & the fact that she can screen reader things when her eyes are tired but her brain is not, (& Cam is very good at making sure that the PDFs she sends are screen reader accessible)
she doesn’t like audiobooks because she wants to put the emphasis where her brain thinks it should go, and even with the speed turned up there’s just a difference between her reading speed and the narration. & yeah, the auditory processing sometimes is not cooperating, never mind that her ears ring sometimes from hearing too many gunshots. there’s a reason the OCS has a deal with a hearing specialist bc if you retire, you’re going to have damage to your eardrums. a ringing aftershock of violence.
they both love dog-earing books and leaving little notes in the margins of, underlining things with intention so that the pen breaks through the paper; with mass-market paperbacks there’s no reason not to, though it takes a while for it to happen.
Ava is at first very tender with every object they own. she bawls her eyes out when she drops a glass in the kitchen one night because her fingers are tired and sore from doing finger strikes all day. Bea finds her there sort of curled up on her haunches, and quietly sweeps up the glass from around her, gently leads her around it because she’s in bare feet.
later, on the sofa, Ava tells her through tears that she has never had stuff that she picked out herself, and the glasses with the little bumblebees on them were hers, and now there are three of them instead of four. & Bea is a bit overcome by how sacredly Ava holds everything, for all that she doesn’t believe in any god.
Ava i think really likes audiobooks because you can do other things while you listen to them! so like, i imagine in the Switzerland era Ava is doing a thing where she’s trying to figure out what stuff she likes doing. so she gets painting supplies & some sheets of A3 paper & she puts on audiobooks while she experiments with colours.
she listens to books at night because Beatrice goes to sleep kind of early & she’s always like ‘oh no, you can leave the light on’ but actually she needs the light off and Ava knows it so instead she lies in the dark with one earphone in listening, on the one hand, to Beatrice mumbling in her sleep and also to whatever book she has & sometimes she takes out the fold-up ruler that she found in a charity shop & folds it and unfolds it and folds it again just to keep her hands busy.
but she also likes physical books because (once Beatrice assures her that it’s okay to write in them & damage them because they’re things and they’re hers and they’re meant to be loved in the way that feels best) she likes writing silly little notes in the margins, or things she wants to look up even though her phone is right there because if she google searches she’ll spend an hour not reading her book.
it makes her feel present & good to leave marks on the books even if it’s ‘ava silva was here’ because she thought she would leave only the smallest impression on the world for so long but now she has her own dirty plates to clean up and she has to pick her clothes off the floor and they have a small stack of very carefully-chosen paperbacks with dog ears and yellow highlighter marks and blue pen in the margins.
what do you think their weird book opinions & peeves would be?
Beatrice will go on a ten-minute tirade about how long it takes for mass-market paperbacks to come out these days. she HATES the fact that all books seem to get released in 25 euro hardcovers, because she spent her teenage years getting books from the second-hand store when the students were allowed to visit the nearby village & she kept an ever-expanding stack of old yellowing paperbacks on top of her chest of drawers, and she adores the feeling of the wafer-thin pages, the smell of them, even gross stuff like spots of blood on the pages from where people accidentally pressed an open cut down over a sentence.
the too-white pages of many modern books, and their thick, almost laminate feeling drives her up the wall. she loves second-hand bookstores and the way the books are stacked all haphazardly, to the ceiling, and they are 1 or 2 euros so you can get a stupid stack of them & pay with a crumply note and take them home and feel full for days.
Ava gets impatient with fiction that doesn’t feel real to her. overly-constructed stuff & characters who could never be real people. she likes messy narratives and non-linearity and she wants to know about the characters more than anything, because people fascinate her.
she likes books with plenty of dialogue, but also really appreciates introspective narratives & beautiful language & writers who can make her really feel like she’s there, and communicate alien experiences.
what are genres and/or tropes they absolutely will not read and/or are very picky about? what are genres & tropes they love?
well, obviously Beatrice loves non-fiction. she reads textbooks, she reads academic papers, she reads very old foundational texts in science & biology & philosophy because Beatrice really really likes understanding things.
one of the first books Cam sends her, which gets dumped right into the “broody bones’ library <3” subsection of the server, which Bea has a login for and everything, is Biology of Spiders by Foelix Rainer, & another file that just has about 3000 images of different spiders pulled from an internet search, so that Beatrice can swipe through them at her leisure (she can name-drop a terrifying number of them just by looking at the pic)
she adores Carl Sagan’s Cosmos (& even gets Ava to watch the TV series, which is not hard because Ava gets fully 0 _ 0 when Bea goes on sleepy rants about space). & ofc she has A Brief History of Time, but she gravitates too towards modern books on astronomy, and likes especially The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein because it is doing a lot of things & it makes her cry a few times. she reads a lot of very old astronomy papers too. again drawn to that line from Monsignor Lemaître:
“the believer has perhaps the advantage of knowing that the enigma has a solution, that the underlying writing is, when all is said and done, the work of an intelligent being, therefore that the problem raised by nature has been raised in order to be solved.”
she likes that. the world as a puzzle god put in her hands, though before it felt more like He had put a shovel there & told her to dig a grave (but not who the grave might be for).
with Ava, reading under the awning of the bar on her break, she feels like the puzzle has come back again and it is intricate; that maybe something as simple as a body might unlock it.
on that note, Beatrice also loves loves loves science-fiction. she grew up reading second-hand stuff. very weird, but very thoughtful. Dune and  Solaris and Flowers for Algernon and The Dispossessed. when Cam sends her the more modern stuff she devours things like The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin and Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and also the Murderbot Diaries.
many others, but as a genre she’s drawn to it because it is often very profoundly human. & she still remembers reading the Star Wars Jedi Apprentice books in her room at boarding school, & how fun they were, and how even in the strangest places with the premise that everything is so, so different, there is a humanity that reasserts itself.
it suits the gentle texture of the faith that Beatrice actually has, which is not the faith of hard church benches and prayers before bed and holding her hand too close overtop of a votive candle. her faith is very soft, and it is about marvelling at the world, worrying about it, being tender towards it.
sci-fi does that for her. it says much in the way of ‘even if everything were different, the best and worst parts of us would remain the same. there will never be a point in history where we do not have to deal with what we are.’
i think she also likes poetry, and just weird good books that make you feel things. i think at some point in those two months she reads Autobiography of Red, remembering herself on the train and staring staring staring at the line “sometimes a journey makes itself necessary.”
looking back and thinking that sometimes a girl makes a journey necessary, thinking of being shipped off to boarding school because of a girl and now shipped off to Switzerland again but with a girl. thinking of necessity, and the small ways in which she has managed to alter the meaning of that word.
other lines that strike her
“This would be hard
for you if you were weak
but you’re not weak”
“Well Goodnight Then they said and drove him up/ Those hemorrhaging stairs…Don’t want to go want to stay Downstairs and read.”
she likes Anne Sexton, too
reading “Sylvia’s Death” & knowing that it’s about something else but also thinking about her sisters. about lilith, especially.
“Thief —
how did you crawl into,
crawl down alone
into the death I wanted so badly and for so long”
the only genre she’s not going to read ever probably is crime/ thrillers, because not only does she just constantly have a little voice in her head going
wrong, wrong, wrong.
no it doesn’t work like that.
wrong.
you just broke both your legs.
that is not how you fire a gun
some of it just sits too close to the bone for her & it’s bad enough that she has her own memories of real-world bad things happening without reading about it. possessed people ripping each other to pieces, bodies in the streets.
the OCS visited enough murder scenes on the trail of demons to make Beatrice capable of smelling, all over again, what happens to a room after a person has been dead in it for several hours.
so she just doesn’t want to read any crime or really most mystery novels (she’s too smart for them, sees things choreographed or else dislikes when things aren’t choreographed at all). she has attended too many autopsies to want to read about them either.
i think Ava reads VERY widely. she loves reading plays & acting them out in the apartment. she has her own little library on the OCS extranet too, & she downloads all of Shakespeare’s stuff & puzzles through it and googles stuff but the pentameter makes sense to her & she loves sometimes how initially inaccessible it is to her because it feels good to unearth the meaning.
her favourite plays are Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and sadly Beatrice does persuade her to read Waiting for Godot and she does kind of think it’s good.
Ava is the one who likes reading fantasy books. she adores The Hobbit & this somehow leads to her finding the ‘legless lego legolas’ post & she spends a whole afternoon laughing randomly until Beatrice finally gives in to her curiosity and she is just ‘…. oh, Ava’ when she reads the crappy screenshot version of it that Ava shows her.
my girl Ava obviously loses it a bit over the Frodo/Sam dynamic in lotr (she likes to perform the travelling songs ofc. Ava is like repressed theatre kid energy fr) & Beatrice (happily) listens to her talk about Frodo and Sam for a whole half hour one evening while she chops vegetables.
Ava just really likes adventure stories & stories where characters are thrown together on a quest and become friends.
she’s obviously embarrassingly a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope in fiction, but she also just enjoys stories about friendship because she’s had so few experiences of that in her life. she has  Beatrice and she kind of has Cam & everyone else doesn’t feel like a friend, exactly. Ava reads the Red Sister trilogy by Mark Lawrence and vibes so much with Nona Grey because of her wild and speechless loyalty to her friends (& yeah, the Sister Apple & Sister Kettle romance and the start of book 2 made her extremely giggly).
she also loves The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin bc the thing at the start of the book that goes “for all those who have to fight for the respect that everyone else is given without question” - Ava FELT that. & just the parallels for her in that book were very powerful. plus plate tectonics magic slaps.
& yeah, Ava is really interested in magic systems. she likes what they reveal about the worlds they exist in, and how they shape the narrative, and also just the rlly cool ones & the weird cheeky thrill of being like ‘….welp, i can do that too actually.’
Ava also really loves fiction with interesting characters and great dialogue and she loves description and colour and everything that pours life into art.
i’d say there isn’t much that Ava doesn’t like, but she isn’t huge into non-fiction because she MUCH prefers to just pester Beatrice about it, & have her voice explain things, and add her own little corrections and opinions with her cute smart smirk. and Ava thinks it is good for Beatrice to express her opinions on things.
she likes how Bea looks when she is Thinking and Processing, and also the excitement in her hands when she explains astrophysics or shows Ava a picture of a spider or tells her about obscure bits of architectural history, the banking system in Florence under the Medici, and all the knowledge she has been muffling with prayer.
Ava thinks that it is H O T but also important and Beatrice looks so free to her, and so good, when she is speaking on some subject with her eyes drifting freely around the room, always coming back to Ava, to her eyes, making sure she is still interested because Beatrice has been ignored so often, and stifled so often, but when she looks back Ava is always watching, and always listening.
so yeah! the girlies like to read & are very smart & i love them every day.

ppl will complain for days on days about how the kids who’re posting their first fanfic to AO3 try to circumvent the “algorithm” (nonexistent) by changing post dates and such, treating it like a social media and vying for likes. and I want to look people in the eyes and be like: you know the answer is moderation, right? you know that literal children are never going to stop wanting attention because that’s the nature of being a child, right? you know the only way any social media/archive/anything online is enjoyable to you because it’s through a filter of moderators, right? you know an archive isn’t required to take in everything, right? if you want the site to be more usable to you, you cannot also advocate for it being the wild west when it comes to admins. can’t have your cake and eat it too.
the answer to almost every problem on AO3 is “hire more admins who are stricter” and yet. even the people who think you should be able to put anything you want on that site would benefit from an actual mod team. how curious.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✉️ y/n — 4th year bio major. roommates with hutao and currently vying for high academic honors. up until today, still has absolutely no idea why she chose to take a bio major but is oddly proficient in the course anyway. tends to avoid parties because she is an absolute lightweight and is prone to making seriously terrible decisions when drunk (refer to masterlist synopsis for details lmao). her biggest goal before the academic year ends is to make it to graduation without holding any lingering regrets.
✉️ hu tao — 4th year physics major. similarly vying for high honors, and has connections with plenty of people in the same year. she’s known y/n since kindergarten and has been best friends with her ever since. both of them have stuck with each other through academics, life detours, personal struggles, and even certain romances. is y/n’s constant and number one supporter among their close friends.
✉️ ayaka — 4th year business admin major. one of y/n’s closest friends. currently the president of the student council in teyvat university, and considered as one of the most popular girls among all the students. she and her brother are taking the same course. was neighbors with y/n during the early years of high-school, and still remains as so in the girls’ dormitory. between their little and private group of friends, the majority evaluates her to be the most levelheaded person of them all.
✉️ lumine — 4th year civil engineering major. she is often victim to being indirectly (and unwillingly) lumped together with childe’s playboy antics. met y/n through ayaka during the last year of high-school and have been friends with each other ever since. loves volunteering, and is often seen with thoma doing welfare work. is the most lighthearted and easygoing person out of all their close companions.
✉️ venti — 4th year literature major. at present, he is everyone’s biggest affectionate major pain in the ass. him and y/n met through mutual friends during their freshman year and immediately hit it off. though most people don’t perceive him as a serious guy, he has a secret hobby of writing songs amidst his spare time and enjoys playing a bunch of instruments. is often regarded to be rather impulsive and reckless, albeit his mature wisdom tends to make the rarest appearances when the scarce moment calls for it. also has a childish tendency to push and joke about certain love-lines.

Ok ill bite whats dominion smp?
BOY AM I GLAD YOU ASKED
dominion smp, which some members call DSMP for what's probably seo reasons but i find intensely hilarious because it's technically not wrong to abbreviate it like that, is a small lightly modded server based around the origins mod! basically, each member has a different origin, and in much the same way empires members are loosely the ruler of their respective countries, you can sort of consider each dominion member to be kind of a paragon of their respective origin.
thing is, while dominion is defined in part by its relation to the origins mod, there is also a lot of plot stuff that happens that is only tangentially related to the fact that everyone is creatures -- you've got people beefing over stolen goods, everyone sort of vying for power in a vacuum while trying to not seem obvious about it, taxes of "give me all of your diamonds every two weeks i am no longer asking nicely", and also. whatever the hell is going on with shadowmech.
oh yeah also literally like 75% of these ccs have 2000+ day hardcore worlds so the builds are insane.
here's a masterpost on everyone's povs! it doesn't have their Vibes down rn but i can do that really briefly (EDIT LOL NO IT'S NOT BRIEF THIS IS GOING UNDER A CUT):
starting members:
jamiejoan/jammers, dragonborn: elected queen of the server during s1. has a corruption arc, as one does. not many s1 episodes, but (without spoiling anything) her pov for s2 is unique and worth checking out
grady, enderian: doesn't have many episodes and is mainly a streamer. his character is half wet cat and half "guy that makes that's what she said jokes", but somehow in a different direction from scar?
legundo, piglin: champion of the piglins, sent to the overworld by his people for. well for takeover purposes probably. this mostly involves doing capitalism and having trusting-distrustful dynamics with the besties. actually the main server admin but this never comes up incharacter.
fixxitt, inchling: starts off as a thief, escalates WILDLY until by episode 5 welsknight is telling him "you fucked up, buddy" and then he builds a gigantic house. has 2 musical numbers in the middle of episodes that will absolutely knock you out if you're not prepared. also has very good cinematics.
nukeri, elytrian: democracy lover and guy who really, really just wants everyone to get along. canonically descended from icarus; all my friends have emotions about him and i haven't watched him yet but he's a major blorbo-in-law. i'd make a joke about how he's the resident gay scot of the server since they couldn't get smajor, but he literally does have a voice cameo from scott in his s1 finale.
rnjoy, witch: loves doing mad science, committing tax fraud, and has a mushroom son in s2 now. not a lot of s1 episodes but she loves her ravager gertrude i know that much. currently being hunted by --
shadowmech, witherborn: hitman of the server who is only withered rn because he ate a really bad porkchop. no episodes currently, he's in the process of doing a supercut of all his s1 stuff. is also in the process of uh. being very possessed and possibly being the s2 arc baddie rn. it's. fiiiiine. he's just not speaking to anyone and also attacking them during blood moons! totally chill
sneve, blazeborn: like if keralis was oli orionsound but with less musical numbers. sneve is an experience that cannot be described. just. watch his episodes there's only like 3 of them it'll tell you everything and nothing you need to know
taneesha, goat: lover of domes and also psychological warfare. started an advancement race probably as an excuse to steal people's shit. not a lot of s1 episodes but has some plot stuff anyway since she kind of got invited to join jamie's. void cult. yeaaaahhhh.
started midway thru s1:
vikingpilot, phantom: SOMETHING IS SO VERY WRONG WITH HIM. sweet ghostboy who is also incredibly unhinged. canonically dead and was also intangible and invisible for the beginning half of s1 up until the dragon fight. does dark magic, or is at least planning to do dark magic. pluralcoded and you can fight me on this. honestly my top pick for "if you only get one pov"
started at the beginning of s2:
progamebot/josh, sporeling: one video so far! joy's mushroom son. helping her make potions out of a van in the desert atm, which is. actually a breaking bad reference, not a reference to that other dsmp. canonically like a week old at the most. doing pretty well considering this.
kiply, fairy: no episodes yet, but uh. i've been watching her other stuff on and off and something is seriously wrong with her in the best way possible. plays on i think at least 2 different lifesteal-type smps? she is unhinged. she is not a reliable narrator. i love her.
dalilred (wolf) and itsryan (iron golem) also REALLY recently joined so i haven't gotten a pin on their vibes yet. red seems like she has a little bit of a cottagecore aesthetic and ryan seems to be kind of closer to sneve on the shitposter end of the mcyter spectrum, but that's all i've got

hello! ive been thinking about pursuing an education in library science amd qas wondering about the process and what the types of careers would entail. would u mind talking a bit about it? if not, its no problem, i was just curious. thanks
Bonjour!!! You have activated my trap card: talking about library stuff!!
Tumblr media
Have you had any experience with working in libraries before? If you haven't, try volunteering with your local library for a few months and see if you like it first! One of the things I noticed really early on in library school was that people with a different background, like a background in teaching or in academia, often struggled with concepts that came naturally to people who worked within the system a lot. People think it's the same. It's not. It's close! but there are key differences in when and how you operate and the vocab and concepts utilized. Getting into libraries really lets you understand the rhythms and patterns of library work before you dedicate your life to it!
I went into library school already working in a public library, so I didn't really explore a whole lot of other opportunities, but lots of people like to get their masters with a specialty in other adjacent niches, like archival work, medical librarianship (maintaining a medical library at a medical school, I think it needs a medical degree of some sort?), academic librarianship (library in a college), teacher librarian (kids + kids' schools, requires an teaching degree), law library (ditto #1), and, of course, public! Which is what IIIIIIIIII doooooo and which no one really makes any money doing ❤️❤️❤️
Unless you're admin. They love paying for admin.
A Masters in Librarianship and Informational Sciences (MLS or MLIS) is often referred to as library school by all attendees ever, but it's generally as rigorous as any other masters degree...especially if you're already working full time. Every ALA (American Library Association)-accredited program has its own application requirements, such as your GRE score and letters of recommendation, but they scooted me in based off of a clean GPA during early covid, so I got away without taking harder tests ✨ And if you're in the US, you're going to WANT to go to an ALA accredited program, or else zero people will hire you ever. The ALA has a searchable directory for finding an accredited program that suits your needs, including online, synchronous, by state, so on and so forth. Use it. It's worth it. Once you have a few programs you like, you could see what they ask for application wise, or what the prices look like.
Librarianship, especially public librarianship, is hard to break into! I was rejected from the first part time job I applied for based off of...probably nothing, honestly- because the field is just so over saturated with applicants. You spend months applying to the scant few open positions that pop up. Everyone is vying for the veeeeery few fulltime jobs that are available. Networking is necessary-- join your state library association as soon as you know that this is your forever career, and your union as soon as you know you have a job, and talk to people! Talk to your local librarian now! Get the lay of the land and other great info about local options from your local library!
And no one wants to paaaaaay you unless you're in a really rural place and everyone thinks you just sit around reeeeeaading and meanwhile you're up to your eyeballs in library publications and program development and research and maybe even kids media, but I went into this job as someone already working in a library, so I had a better handle on hauling myself up into a full time position and out of a part-time depression. And I love my work!! Kids are hilarious and I love picture books as an art form and my coworkers are great, which isn't luck everyone has. I decided I liked libraries and the system I was working in before jumping in all the way, which helps so, so, so much.
Have hobbies, find a niche, learn how to maximize your skills in a library setting.
📖 Hey, it may be for you! 📖

Minecraft server where the admin has a little bit of a god-complex and is a bit of a troll and carries out actions based on strawpolls; actions such as blowing up specific buildings, spawn, enacting or revoking certain laws, etc. However this has gone on for so long that it's effected the players of the server to the point that they have weird and extremely formal mannerisms when talking to each other, as well as certain words being spelled in different ways and certain slang being used to the point that to a new outsider it seems unintelligible like a new language. The digi-green realm's world in which The Lord is of a character that exercises trickery and produces divine judgments. The kin of his cast their prayers against his holy sieves. The buildings of Mal must be sanctified - the zeropoint dethroned - the laws made just. Thee legacy of him made manifest in right manner and manner of words. Thee newblood will be purified in the light of him. Vi ghji-gi rhessa ea'lm l'wiz Vy Yaaugh l'v'a kharam vit Echs Jixikze ni Orastl Yaazin-jooruhul. Ni zed v'Yaa kra vy'a Orvu Diam v'Yaa Yaazi-Rvul. Dearest Heichou 🫡
If people of Paradis celebrated Thankgiving, what would you say you are thankful for ?
Also, I 'd like to know more about your relationship with (the amazing 😍) Hange, if it's not too personal, of course 😊
This time I will say thank you Heichou because I impressed you with my poetic quote & I don't feel like a teeny tiny kid in awe this time 🥰
Evening, Val. The Admin is vying for control of the keyboard to rant about how “bullshit” Thanksgiving is. I don’t feel any one way about it since I don’t know what it is, because we don’t celebrate it.
As far as being thankful goes... The time I spent with people who are gone now. I'm still alive, and I got out of the Underground, so.
I'm thankful for my comrades. Things they've done that go beyond just fighting alongside me.
You wanna hear about Hange? Alright… From the moment they first opened their mouth in front of me, I knew they had some screws loose. They told me they were "watching me" and asked a bunch of questions... then gave one of my friends cookies as a bribe to be friends with them. To this day I don’t know how they sneaked cookies onto an expedition.
Not that I hated that first meeting; that's not what I meant. Unsurprisingly, most Scouts weren't too happy with three criminals from the Underground of all places suddenly joining their ranks, so even though I wasn't used to being approached like that, it was nice of them to say. About my fighting giving everyone else hope.
In general, let’s see... They're annoying and have worse hygiene than a pig. They're reckless… but also resourceful. If they weren't strong, they wouldn't still be here, so, that's a good thing. Even though I don't agree with their attachment to those monsters, to say the least, we would still be in the dark without their research.
Somehow they're not jaded like most who've been around for more than a few years. Their past isn't fortunate, either. In fact, they're a clown, but they're scary when something gets them angry, and coming from me that should mean something.
As for more personal feelings, I believe my actions speak more for me than anything I could say, so I'll quit wasting your time by rambling.
Yeah, that poetry, and since I approached Erwin, I’ve gotten curious about that sort of thing—poetry is interesting. It's hard to describe the way I feel about it, which is part of why I like it, I guess. I'll share more if anything catches my eye.

Flask vs Django: Python's Powerhouse Duo - Which is Right for You?
The Python universe brims with web development frameworks, each vying for your attention. Two heavyweights, Flask and Django, often lock horns in heated debates. But choosing the "right" one isn't a gladiator arena match - it's about finding the perfect fit for your project's needs. So, before you don your coding helmet, let's delve into the 10 key battlegrounds of Flask vs Django:
Tumblr media
1. Micro vs Monolith: Picture Flask as a sleek, customizable sports car, and Django as a feature-packed SUV. Flask, the microframework, gives you bare-bones control, letting you handpick components for a truly unique ride. Django, the full-stack framework, comes loaded with features - think admin panels, authentication, and more - out of the box, offering a swift, structured journey.
2. Learning Curve: Like a gentle slope, Flask's simplicity makes it beginner-friendly. Perfect for dipping your toes into web development. Django, with its robust features, demands a steeper climb. But hey, the panoramic view from the top is worth it! Consider hiring Python developers with Django expertise to accelerate your ascent.
3. Project Scope: Is your project a nimble startup website or a sprawling e-commerce platform? Flask excels in smaller, more targeted projects where flexibility reigns supreme. Django shines in complex, feature-rich applications where structure and built-in tools save time and effort.
4. Customization: Craving a one-of-a-kind web experience? Flask grants complete control over every aspect. Think of it as a blank canvas where you paint your masterpiece. Django offers customization within its defined structure, like choosing paint colors from a curated palette.
5. Scalability: As your project grows, will it need to expand like a balloon? Flask necessitates manual scaling with additional libraries. Django boasts built-in scalability features, ensuring your application seamlessly adapts to increasing traffic.
6. Community & Resources: Both frameworks have active communities and extensive documentation. Flask's smaller community fosters closer connections, while Django's vast ecosystem provides a wealth of ready-made solutions.
7. Security: Both prioritize security, but remember, with great flexibility comes great responsibility. In Flask, you're responsible for implementing security measures. Django enforces security best practices by default, making it inherently more secure for complex projects.
8. Development Speed: Need to launch yesterday? Django's pre-built components and admin panel accelerate development. Flask demands more time upfront for setup and customization.
9. Team Expertise: Working with a Python development company well-versed in Django streamlines the process. If your team thrives on customization and control, Flask might be a better fit.
10. Long-Term Maintenance: Flask's modularity simplifies maintenance as you only update chosen components. Django's all-inclusive nature might require updating the entire framework, potentially impacting existing functionalities.
The Verdict? There is no winner. Both Flask and Django are incredible tools, each excelling in its own domain. Carefully consider your project's needs, team expertise, and desired level of control to make the right choice. And remember, if you need expert guidance, hiring Python developers with experience in both frameworks can help you navigate the decision and ensure a successful project outcome.
So, buckle up, Python enthusiasts! With this knowledge, you're ready to choose the perfect framework for your next web development adventure.
Certainly! Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the comparison between Flask and Django, focusing on 10 must-know criteria:
1. What is Flask and Django?
   - Flask and Django are both web frameworks for building web applications using Python. Flask is a micro-framework that provides a minimal set of tools, allowing developers to choose and integrate components as needed. Django, on the other hand, is a high-level web framework that follows the "batteries-included" philosophy, providing a more structured approach with built-in features.
2. Scalability: Which framework is more scalable?
   - Both Flask and Django are scalable, but Django may be considered more scalable out of the box due to its built-in features like ORM, admin interface, and integrated components. Flask's scalability depends on the developer's choices and the components integrated.
3. Learning Curve: Which is easier for beginners?
   - Flask is generally considered more beginner-friendly due to its simplicity and minimalistic design. Django, with its more comprehensive features, may have a steeper learning curve for beginners.
4. Project Size: Which framework is suitable for small or large projects?
   - Flask is often preferred for small to medium-sized projects, while Django is well-suited for large and complex projects, thanks to its built-in features like ORM, admin interface, and conventions that streamline development.
5. Flexibility: Which framework provides more flexibility?
   - Flask is known for its flexibility, allowing developers to choose components and build the application structure according to their preferences. Django, while flexible, follows a more opinionated structure.
6. Community and Ecosystem: Which framework has a larger community?
   - Both Flask and Django have active and vibrant communities, but Django generally has a larger community due to its widespread use in larger projects and organizations.
7. ORM (Object-Relational Mapping): How do Flask and Django handle database interactions?
   - Django comes with a built-in ORM system, providing a higher-level abstraction for database operations. Flask, being a micro-framework, allows developers to choose their preferred ORM or use SQL directly.
8. Template Engine: How do Flask and Django handle templates?
   - Both frameworks have their template engines. Flask uses Jinja2, which is flexible and easy to use. Django comes with its own template engine that is tightly integrated with the framework, providing additional features.
9. RESTful API Development: Which framework is better for building RESTful APIs?
   - Flask is often preferred for building RESTful APIs due to its simplicity and flexibility. Django, while capable of building APIs, may be perceived as having more boilerplate code.
10. Maintenance and Upkeep: Which framework requires less maintenance?
    - Flask may require less maintenance as it is more lightweight, and developers have more control over the components used. Django's built-in features may simplify development but could also require more maintenance in the long run.

AND THEY ALL FALL DOWN.
In this world, you can either take what's yours — or lose it forever.
It is no secret that the Haus of Red and Superbia Magazine have been at each other's throats. This rivalry started between the previous EIC, Constance Ngono, and Frederick Augustin. Some say they vyed for the attention of Vivenne Gerard, which quickly turned into a cold war lasting even after Ngono's retirement. Frederick's death, however, has rocked the boat. Neither the Haus nor the magazine feel safe.
It's never spoken aloud, but suspicions run rampant. That intern feels a little too chipper; that designer asks more questions than they should; that photographer stays a little later than expected. Are they truly here to help or are they for the other team? It has everyone pulling themselves closer, locking their circles a little tighter, hoping that the person getting your coffee order is someone you can trust. After all, you wouldn't want to end up with your own drink laced in this trying time.
This group-wide subplot focuses on acts of sabotage between the Haus of Red and Superbia Magazine. We encourage both Haus- and Magazine-aligned to be involved! Please let the admins ( and the writers involved ) know if you'd like to do a larger act of sabotage such as: theft/burglary, property destruction, small acts of arson, poisoning attempts, and other things of this nature. If you wish for your muse to switch sides, please the admins know!
CURRENTLY INVOLVED:
Sophia Callahan-Ellis ( Haus of Red )
Evrim Cemil ( currently unaffiliated )
Virge Oshita ( Superbia Magazine )
