So a few days ago I had posted my “I’m Gonna Win” spamton drawing illustrating my hc for the Transformation Theory. Since then I talked about the pros and cons in the Acid Theory in depth with mutuals and in discord servers. So when it came time to post it on instagram I created a clarification slide to add a detail I’ld typically leave in tags. Only to write an entire essay in the description anyways pffft.

But anyways here you go

So after chapter 2 came out I was enamored by the idea of Spamton going through a slow and progressive transformation at the hands of Gaster/the Knight to emphasize Spamton figuratively AND literally giving himself for "freedom" But when the Acid Theory gained traction I foolishly assumed it was somehow canon and I scrapped my original idea (which is my own fault I don't blame anyone that would be silly pffft). While there was a lot of cool imagery and concepts that came out of it I felt it was too quickly accepted and wide spread which inadvertently discouraged other interpretations. (I've talked to others about this and they had similar experiences) Alongside that another issue is that the Acid Theory characterized characters such as Queen to seem much more vindictive(?) than necessary. Sure she's a bit reckless with lives and what she did to Berdly and the Plugboys is not okay. But saying that she's okay with torturing and burning someone alive? That's a whole other level of cruel. (Which might tie in to fandom’s tendency to villainize female characters more than male characters which is a whole other but relevant can of worms.) The biggest problem being the misconception of Acid Theory being actual canon which leaked it's ways into debates about certain characters. What I personally enjoy about the Transformation Theory is Delatrune is already a more fantasy and metaphor heavy game and the idea of The Knight transforming his victims into more mechanical and easier to control vessels is much more connected to the themes of the game. (A jack-in-a-box having a crank that you have to rotate to make a clown jump out and a puppet which you manipulate to act out different scenarios) This theory as well keeps the concept of Spamton being shorter than the other Addisons pre-puppetification within the theory which helps to solidify the themes his goal of being a "big shot" and "bigger. Anyways this isn't my way of discouraging others from using the Spamton Acid Theory or judging others who DO utilize the Acid Theory. I'm just pointing out the flaws and inviting more diverse interpretations of how Spamton got to look the way he did ^ ^

You know, I was thinking. Something debated on a lot more than I think it should be is how Spamton was affected by the Acid.

(if you think multiple of these things happened, then pick the one you find more important to his character - or more likely to of happened)

Queen Deltarune is not responsible for Acid Theory.

We know from her the acid shrinks people, right? But what context did we find that out in? When she was showing her tiny houses she made for the people shrunk by the acid. If she found that the acid shrinking hurt people, she wouldn't do it. She doesn't like seeing people in pain.

Think about the one time in game where Queen shouted. It was when Berdly was about to electrocute and seriously harm himself, and we know Berdly is Queen's least favorite Lightner. Yet him getting hurt, especially when indirectly caused by her, is the One Thing that makes her lose her composure.

You could theoretically argue that Queen didn't know the acid was hurting Spamton, but that would not work, as we definitely know from his text breaks that he was shouting and crying out in pain, so very obviously in pain. Queen couldn't have missed that.

So like I know there's a lot of debate on the acid theory, and wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I think he was thrown in the acid, but I don't think he shrunk from it. He's just always been a small lil bean man, and the acid judt gave him more trauma. Cause- I'm sorry- the idea of Spamton even being average, let alone tall, KILLS ME.

anyways i'm glad acid theory is over okay. you have no idea how frustrating it was to see queen get turned into a villain, spamton's trauma get used as pointless torture for shipping, and swatch getting all their character woobyfied into queen's victim or whatever when they're good friends with her in canon. rest in piss acid theory ❤

Frankly the acid theory has just as much credence to the theory of burning his eyes from looking at the sun, don’t put down other peoples interpretations. A lot of people don’t have Swatch or any of the staff do it, it was an accident or of his own volition.

I’m pretty open about not liking the theory that much but I am also open about being fine with it being apart of aus or if it does turn out canon. It’s boring to me and ur literally talking to someone who actively talks about being a magic puppetification truther like I don’t know what you expect from me here.

Like I’m not going into others inboxes and telling them the theory is mid or their aus suck, or rebloggin posts with the theory and shitting on them. Hell I even made a post about finding the theory interesting in like certain situations it’s just like not or ever gonna be MY theory for what happened to him. I think I voice and post my opinion on it pretty respectfully in all honesty.

thats a popular interpretation for the acid theory! a few artists even base their other addison designs around it, headcanoning that they all have those puppet-like insides as an endoskeleton of sorts

but this would seem to suggest his appearance has more to do with the voice on the phone? thats how i interpret it anyway

he does mention the acid pool but he says it in the same line as getting swirlied in the mansions toilets so it seems to be more like typical bullying than a traumatic event. maybe acid is like water to him the way its alcoholic to queen idk

I mean, him looking like a puppet when the other Addison do not is a very weird thing, makes the Acid Pool theory fit here quite well... but it makes me want to dunk the other ones to see what they have underneath. HDJDNS

That comment he does, mh, it may also reference how he dosent really regret getting thrown into an acid pool for trying to get the neo suit in the basement. I personally believe he turned into the puppet after he stopped answering the phone and such.

And for the last thing... I don't think so, personally at least, because if it trully was water to the other darkners... they wouldn't shrink in the acid or we would have seen some of then swimming in it, Queen seems to be the only one that can interact directly to it.

So that comment of being pushed into the pool, might indicate that he didn't fell into the acid but someone put him in there totally on purpose, probably because of entering after being kicked out.

Maybe that's why he is so afraid of entering again that he asked other people to do it.

the acid theory in actual canon is easily disprovable (no offense to those who like it! im just a ut/dr lore nerd)

but in fanon, aus and such it has a lot of angst potential, like when i think of stories with spamton in my head with the acid theory they are VERY far from canon

but the theory is not actually possible within the game itself
