“You’re in the eighth grade. You know these things. You know how to ride a dirt bike, and you know how to do long division, and you know that a boy who likes boys is a dead boy, unless he keeps his mouth shut.”

A Small Weird Love
You only chase after the ones who will hurt you.
The boys who don’t care,
And never will.
It doesn’t matter.
Noone cares anyway.
And those who do,
You try your hardest to push away.
Why are you so intent on destroying yourself?
Why do you seek out devastation so ardently?
You tried things the easy way.
Things never worked out.
You’ve always had rotten luck, you suppose.
It feels like you’re standing at a precipice,
Toes dangling off the edge.
You didn’t want to be here, at first,
But then you got comfortable.
No longer is the urge to run.
You can see now that the world
Is on fire behind you.
All that’s left to do is take one more step.
