Ferret!Techno (and sbi) au that I wrote out while ao3 was down /⁠ᐠ⁠｡⁠ꞈ⁠｡⁠ᐟ⁠\

Phil is a normal man who comes into possession of a ferret (Technoblade) who was being neglected and could no longer be cared for by an acquaintance.

Initially, Phil tries to find someone to rehome the ferret to, but eventually grows close to him, in no small part due to the fact that Techno will bite people who are over and Phil starts to feel uncomfortable around (and sometimes others too >:3). Decides to keep Techno!

At this point, Phil does research on ferrets and finds out that 1. They need friends to be happy, and 2. They are not supposed to be pink actually.

The second problem can't be remedied, no matter how much he washes and wrings out Techno like a wet dishrag... But he does go buy him two new friends!

Wilbur and Tommy.

Wilbur and Tommy are already bonded brothers and they gang up on Techno at first, especially Tommy. But Techno eventually gets over his shyness and starts biting back. Somehow, this actually makes them gain mutual respect, especially Wilbur, who makes sure Tommy doesn't get too feisty with Techno (and get the chomp). They all become good friends and brothers, making Phil's life a chaotic nightmare as he deals with the three cat worms.

Only, right when Phil starts getting used to being a ferret dad, he wakes up in the middle of the night to a giant racket and finds three children, no ferrets, and their hair is all conveniently color coded.

Obviously, like a normal man, Phil has a little mental breakdown. Because his /ferrets/ just turned into /human/ children.

Neotrio also have a freak out, because they are literally ferrets, but now they have opposable thumbs and consciousness. During the chaos that ensues, several family heirlooms get destroyed and Phil sheds a few tears.

After the dust settles, a certain pink ferret child is missing.

Phil did not think to put child locks on his doors for his /ferrets/ and Techno has a mighty need to elope with his new ability to use doorknobs.

Immediately, they go looking.

Phil is desperately trying to ask people if they have seen a ferret child, and perhaps it is the frantic yelling about ferrets or that Wilbur refuses to not walk like a ferret (Tommy and Techno can walk perfectly normally), but people are avoiding him.

It appears hopeless.

What is a man without his ferret?

Philza sad. (Wilbur and Tommy also sad, but also ferrets).

While Phil is running around town, dragging newly human ferret Wilbur and Tommy along with him on kid leashes, Techno is experiencing the human world for the first time alone. It kind of sucks for a little ferret! Cars keep almost hitting him in the road, humans keep yelling at him, and he has no idea where he is. It is all very overwhelming and scary.

Eventually Techno finds a park and hides inside the tube slide because it reminds him of his cage.

Curled up at the bottom of the playground equipment and sadly eating cheerios that he found on the ground, Techno spends his first night as a human alone and scared.

He misses his ferret family :(

While ferrets do not often turn into human children, it may be even less often that they turn /back/ into ferrets. And yet, when a small child falls down the slide and lands on Techno, there is a poof, a small squeak, and then a peculiarly pink ferret left stunned.

While the frightened child screams up a storm in the slide, Techno immediately runs off, dealing with the existential implications of being a ferret again after knowing morality. And also, he is still alone and outside.

It just so happens that at this time a woman named Kristin is walking by a playground that has a screaming kid and word of a strange pink child. It is really none of her business, but while on her journey home she happens upon a frantic ferret running in circles. She can see hawks and foxes and cats eyeing the strange tube rat hungrily, perhaps only held off by his toxic pink color.

But that doesn't stop Kristin from scooping Techno up, easily dodging his little bites.

"Who the hell lets their ferret outside?"

Philza is a man with no pride.

His previously ferret children have begun to get distracted by the human world. It is inconvenient when Tommy starts eating wild strawberries off of a bush and gets covered in the juice, which causes a lot of confusion considering that Phil is asking after a pink child.The passerbys also do not seem to take kindly when he frantically yells that he means his favorite pink child when they point at Tommy. (Tommy doesn't care, for he is a ferret).

Though, Phil does hear word on the wind about a woman carrying around a bright pink ferret.

On the way to her house, they pass an unfortunate intersection where a car horn blares, causing two poofs and two ferrets to pop back into being. Phil is becoming numb to this circumstance.

Both hands full of ferrets, Phil knocks on Kristin's door and immediately demands his ferret child back. The woman gives him one glance, the ferrets in his hands two glances, and then slams the door in his face with a sharp word about letting ferrets outside.

Immediately, Phil falls to his knees and cries out in anguish.

Kristin obviously hears this through her door, but she's already deep within plotting. Because someone that dyes their ferret pink and lets them run around outside should not own two other ferrets.

Techno, for his part, is curled up in the pillow filled cardboard box she set up for him, missing his brothers and Phil and sad about being ferretnapped.

That night, Kristin hatches her heist. She breaks into Phil's house and steals Wilbur and Tommy out of their cage. It's easy, because Phil is busy loudly crying in the kitchen. (Techno also tries to hatch an escape while she's gone, but his legs are very short and can not escape the box).

When Techno is reunited with Wilbur and Tommy, they all do happy wiggles and run around in circles,before curling up in a cute ferret ball. Kristin thinks it's sweet and sets about researching ferrets (and ferret shampoo to get rid of pink).

Neotrio initially plan to escape back to Phil, but Kristin buys them treats and doesn't mind when they get into gremlin trouble,so they kind of just chill at her house for a couple days. They are ferrets, after all. They can not be blamed.

Only, wouldn't you know, a couple nights later there's a loud clatter and when Kristin runs to check, there is a small pink child standing inside of the ferret box.

And no pink ferret.

Kristin has an appropriate sized freak out over her ferret turning into a human child, and also Tommy and Wilbur (still ferrets) are jumping around like crazy. Somehow, in the chaos, Techno runs away again. (Someone has to buy child locks for this kid).

Now it is Kristin's turn to double clutch ferret Wilbur and Tommy as she runs around looking for human Techno. It's during this that she runs into Phil, who is moping in the streets. Immediately, she starts screaming at Phil. It's only then that Tommy and Wilbur poof into kids.

It gets what she was trying to get across pretty well.

Phil and Kristin team up to find Techno. Nearby, in a shady alley, Techno is poised to grab candy off of the ground underneath of a suspiciously propped up box with a string attached 🪤

As they round the corner, Kristin runs over and kicks the man trying to kidnap Techno in the neck (this is also when Phil falls in love with her).

In a mixture of relief and fear, Phil runs up to Techno and shakes him by the shoulders, yelling about how much he worried him. Experiencing guilt for the first time, Techno's eyes immediately well up as he gives the most pathetic ferret look. Phil picks him up, and alongside Kristin, they bring the ferret children home.

Sleepy ferret boys get tucked into bed as Phil and Kristin go around locking every door and window in sight before they can finally discuss the existence of ferrets turning into children. It's quite the development and they have to swap phone numbers to discuss it more. (And also so Kristin can visit the ferret boys).

Phil wakes up on the couch the next morning to find two ferrets and one pink child splayed out on top of him.

Life is good :)

**OPEN TO CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM**

Wanted to share my rat cage so far for two 1.5 year old male rats. We’ve had them about a week and a half.

Enclosure is a Feisty Ferret. We are planning to upgrade to a Double Critter Nation by the end of the summer (One of my gerbils is getting surgery this month which is costly so it’ll probably be August)

Ideally the critter nation will have a much deeper bedding pan. I’m using modified critter nation units for mice and some of my gerbils and have 12 inch deep substrate bins, I’m hoping for 18 inches for the rats 🙂 Currently in the feisty ferret they have 6-7 inches of aspen in the bottom level.

I have some more stuff coming in the mail, arriving soon. Wooden ramps to replace the plastic ones because they’re kind of slippery for the rats, and also some more ledges and branches.

I replace the fleece on the second level every 2-3 days and spot clean daily. They also come out for out of cage time 4-5x a week so far for about an hour.

I definitely want to add more enrichment and toys to make it more cluttered. It’s a work in progress!

Ok. I was meaning to delve into it for a while, so thank you for the excuse. There are a couple more characters popping up in later books, but the main recurring cast looks something like this:

Description with additional details below the cut:

In the middle we have the main trio: Ianim, Gullin, Lissan. I labelled it as 'OT3 QPR', although their relationship evolves the most throughout the trilogy. Ianim and Gullin start of as close friends and exes through circumstances (difference in rank making a romantic/sexual relationship forbidden, and Ianim being too anxious to want the risk). Lissan meets them at the beginning of Gifts of Fate, and the three of them become very close friends, though I haven't yet decided where they end up, other than still inseparable. Currently thinking that Lissan and Gullin romantically court Ianim, while their own relationship is more like friends with benefits?

Marta is Lissan's younger sister, and they are on very good terms. Lineas is their father. Their mother isn't in the picture (divorced, left them some 14 years ago).

Anthea is Ianim's older sister, and their relationship is very strained. She's the source of most of his anxieties and unintentionally makes him feel not good enough, while in truth is trying to give him space and as much freedom as their roles allow. She's the First Prince, he's the Prince Successor. The White Dragon is their grandfather, and Ianim's primary parental figure. He's also the legendary prince and the oldest person alive in the setting (about... oh, 3 millennia old?).

Anthea and Erya are coworkers (the Chief Strategist and the Army's spymaster respectively), and meet weekly for a game of chess. Their relationship is explored in The Prince's Shadow.

Varré... Their role is a bit more complicated. Their vocation is to find street urchins Gifted by Fate and give them means of improving their lives. They found Erya over a century earlier and pretty much... housetrained the feisty little ferret. Now she's such an integral member of their family that she calls their mother 'Ma'. Gullin was found less than half a century ago, and thanks to their mentorship became known as the resident prodigy, the youngest Brigadier in history. That makes Gullin and Erya sort of... distant relatives in this (quite literally) found family?

Erya is the Captain General of Intelligence and Internal Security Corps, Varré her second, Gullin and Catnip Brigadiers serving under their command.

Gullin, Catnip, Artio, and Nikols are a bunch of drinking buddies who meet almost daily for a drink in a pub in the evening.

One thing that didn't fit on the graph was how far back Nikols, Ianim, and Gullin go. Ianim and Gullin shared a room at the military academy as cadets, while Nikols was an officer cadet. There's a tradition that an officer cadet takes care of a fresher, to show them around and offer them advice when they may not want to go to their instructors or administrative staff. The officer cadet in this role is referred to as 'stork'. Nikols was Ianim's stork, so of course he dragged the Princeling to a pub repeatedly, until Ianim loosened up. Gullin's stork wasn't very outgoing, so he tagged along with them.

Characters not listed on the picture include Mikkel and Claren, two brothers who are tutors and honour guards of Anthea and Ianim, respectively, and Renna of the Sixth Tree, who's a thorn in the First Prince's side.

1. Ferret

The first time Chen Chou ever registers in the periphery of his consciousness, was when he and Zhang Ping rocks up to the case at Banyue Pavilion.

He’d barely been paying attention to the man then. Had no reason to, really, not when he was too busy trying to help Peizhi keep his head.

But the thing that stood out to him, even years later when his hair was more grey than black, about that night and about Chen Chou himself, was how jittery he was.

Always a constant presence flitting around and about Zhang Ping. Always there to assist and aid in whatever brilliance the other man's mind can work out. Always darting quickly in and out like a ferret.

The imagery amuses him.

2. Feisty

"That was stupid of you."

"What? Was I supposed to let Lan-daren be stabbed instead?"

Honestly, it wasn't that bad of a wound. Just a scratch, if Mowen was to say so himself, but these scholarly types are a little more tender than him, so what would he know?

Chen Chou hisses when he presses down a little too hard, throwing him a glare. "Daren, I know you may not think so much of me, but if at all possible, I'd really like to not die under your hands."

"So dramatic," Mowen tuts, easing his touch. The corner of his mouth twitches when he spies the way Chen Chou shudders, skin goosepimpling under Mowen's palm, the tips of his ears turning a little red.

"Dramatic, shmatic," Chen Chou grumbles, lips pursed in a pout. "You try getting hurt and you see how you act. Betcha you'd be just the same."

Mowen pretends to consider the statement, before grinning, all teeth and charm. "Well, why don't we both take our clothes off and we'll see about that?"

Chen Chou's eyes go impossibly wide. Mouth sputtering and choking on a breath.

And then the feisty thing, much to his surprise, slaps Mowen on the chest. Hard too, and it knocks a little of the wind out of his lungs. "Scoundrel!"

Interestingly enough, the sight of Chen Chou's face flushed and panicked only makes him want to tease more. The thought shakes loose a curious pebble that he sets aside to dissect at a later date.

3. Pretty

With a final flourish of his brush, Mowen declares, "Done."

Chen Chou slowly leans back, blinking his eyes open to look right into Mowen's eyes. Dusted with a light shade of pink, his big brown eyes sparkled in the candlelight.

"How do I look?" Chen Chou asks in a whisper. Mowen jumps a little at his voice, realising very quickly that they're still seated too close to sell the illusion that they were nothing more than passing acquaintances because of their friends.

"Like I should kiss you," Mowen admits. Licking his lower lip, he quickly cranes his neck to make sure that Zhang Ping is still very much distracted by whatever planning Peizhi has caught him up in. Leaning in, he slides his hand to Chen Chou's belly, feeling the way his muscles shift when he moves with him.

The press of their mouths has Mowen tasting the rouge on Chen Chou's lips, then as he parts it on a quiet whine, Mowen sighs at the first hits of fragrant tea on his tongue. God, he is going to ruin Chen Chou's makeup if they persist.

"Later," Mowen promises his pretty lover. Smiling a little at the moue of reluctance, he coxes him by patting his hair back into place, helping him right the ribbons of his dress. It's a little too long for Chen Chou, what with the lady that this belongs to being of a taller build, but it's what they could get on such short notice.

Undercover work suits Chen Chou to a degree that should scare him, even if Mowen feels like his heart could give out from the stress of watching his little lover catch the eye of every dangerous man in a five-league radius.

So, if he wilts a little when Peizhi raises an eyebrow at him at the sudden growl that escapes him, he can chalk it up to him being grumpy and not because some man is going to lose his fifth limb for feeling up Chen Chou.

Chen Chou will be the first to say that he is a generous lover. He's not the sort to stick cheek to jowl with their partner at all hours of the day, no. If anything he likes having his own sphere of friends and activities to do that are completely separate from his partner's.

she takes her bag with her going downstairs seeing her parents already waiting at the front door, she huffed.

Fur baby show and tell time!! This is Pixie, she’s one year old as of yesterday. She’s an odd looking little creature, my guess is chiweenie (with a bit of ferret). We took on her very pregnant mom as a foster and a week later, 6 puppies (the vet told us 3-4, so 6 was a big surprise, esp for a small dog!). All the puppies were completely healthy little butterballs..except Pixie. We didn’t even think she was alive when she came out until she moved a few minutes later. We helped mama dog get her out of the sack and cleaned up, which took a while because mama was still delivering two more babies. It was pretty clear something was wrong with Pixie beyond how tiny and skinny she was. She didn’t have the strength to nurse, so we had to make a 3 AM run to Walmart for puppy formula. The first week or so was really touch and go, but after that she got the hang of drinking from a bottle. She was still teeny tiny and not gaining nearly as fast as her siblings, but stable. We started working with her to try to get her walking, but it wasn’t really going anywhere. We took her to the vet before the others to see if they could tell us what was going on with her, and what we could do. They didn’t really (and still don’t) know for sure, their best guess was a severe collagen deficiency, along with a fractured growth plate in one front leg and a dislocated elbow in the other. All of her joints have mobility issues and don’t entirely stay in place, she can’t straighten her front legs, and her skin tears so easily so she’s constantly got little knicks and cuts. But she’s been such a little fighter, and has already outlived what the vets told us to expect. She actually gets around very well most of the time, all things considered. She’s even able to run, in her own way. She’s feisty and spoiled and so sweet, and really doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with her. Sorry for the long submission, just she’s my baby girl and I have a lot of feelings about her journey ☺️ (Pics: top is Pixie yesterday in the silly hat I made her, middle is a few months ago out in the yard, bottom is her with her siblings at about three weeks old. Ok, we don't have motor vehicles yet, but I enjoy picturing my cast in a modern day AU, so:

Lissan, the golden retriever of the cast. Vehicle of choice: 20 yo Mazda RX-8, bright red. He probably maintains it himself, at least the basic stuff. Driving skill: 8/10. Notable shenanigans: whenever someone tailgates him, he drives very much by the book, exactly at the speed limit.

Gullin, the resident prodigy. Vehicle of choice: matte black, newest Ducati Panigale motorbike Driving skill: 11/10 Shenanigans: he's definitely the one to ride too fast to get caught on speed cameras.

Ianim, the Princeling. Vehicle of choice: a silver Jaguar Mk 2, with a chauffer. Driving skill: 3/10 Shenanigans: he loves horses. Horses have this funny quality that if you let them walk, they'll stay on the road without your input. Cars... don't have that. Anyway, Ianim might be the most likely to end up in a ditch.

“We will camp here for the night,” Thorin calls out and you sigh, relieved to finally be resting.

You wait until Bilbo gets off before you follow your brother. You hear Thorin getting into an argument with Gandalf, but you ignore it, opting to tie your pony to the tree.

“Gandalf? Where are you going?” you hear Bilbo ask and that catches your attention. "To seek the company of the only one around here who's got any sense!”

That causes your brows to crease.

“Who’s that?”

"MYSELF, Mr. Baggins! I've had enough of dwarves for one day!” Gandalf replies and you watch him go.

You follow him to see where he’s going.

“Gandalf?” you ask quietly. He stops and sighs. “I will be back Ms. Baggins. Do not worry about me,” he says and you nod, turning back around to go back to the dwarves.

By the time the sunsets, Gandalf is not back. “Y/n, be a dear and take this to the lads,” Bofur tells you, handing you two bowls. Bilbo takes one from you and you smile at him in thanks.

When Gandalf left, you did not want to talk to anyone, but Bilbo. You both leave to find Kili and Fili. You find them easily, but they’re just staring at the ponies.

“Whats wrong?” Bilbo asks and you sigh.

“You lost the ponies didn’t you?” you ask them and Kili turns to you in surprise. “Please don’t tell Uncle,” he pleads. “Well, someone has to tell him,” you reply as Bilbo takes a look around.

“As our official burglar, we thought you two might want to look it,” Fili says and you narrow your eyes at him. Biblo will undoubtedly fall for it.

“Well, it looks like something big was here,” Bilbo says, looking at the fallen tree. “That’s what we were thinking,” Fili says and you roll your eyes. You look around and you see a light.

You move forward, shoving the bowl into Kili’s chest. You jump over the broken trees and move closer to the light.

"Trolls," you mutter. You duck as you see another troll carrying Myrtle and Minty.

"They've got Myrtle and Minty!" Bilbo says, coming to stand next to you. "We've got to do something," Bilbo says and you sigh. The boys were going to tell him to do something and he did.

Needless to say, you were all captured by smelly trolls and luckily for you, you were put in a sack and not tied on the spit.

"I'm going to murder you both as soon as we get out of here," you tell Kili, trying to wiggle yourself out.

"It was your brother's fault for us getting captured!" Kili exclaims. "It was you two dunderheads that didn't notice a fucking troll stole the ponies. What were you even doing to not to notice it?" You ask annoyed and he shuts his mouth.

"Oi. You two quit your griping. We're trying to figure out how to cook ya'," one of the trolls says. "Oh shove off you cotton headed ninny muggin," you retort, opting to just lie there instead of wasting your energy.

"You wot?" The other asks. "None of your business you swine," you reply and you're immediately lifted up by your foot and turned towards the trolls, blood rushing to your head.

"I don't like you," he says. "Get in line big fella! Half of my people don't like me," you say. "What are you then? An oversized squirrel?" He asks and you roll your eyes at the same question the trolls asked your brother.

"I'm a hobbit you twat," you say, trying to get the blood flowing properly but you can't given the fact that he has a tight grip on you.

The troll grabs you by the waist and rights you and you thank valar for that.

"What is a hobbit? The other one was a buglarhobbit. Are you some kind of offspring?” he asks again. “What are you going on about? There’s no such thing as a buglarhobbit you daft bimbo,” you say and that causes him to lift you above his mouth.

That’s it. You were going to die right there. You weren’t even halfway to the mountain yet.

“Wait! You can’t eat her! She’s got worms. In her — tubes,” you hear Bilbo says and suddenly, you are tossed into the other dwarves landing unceremoniously unto Thorin.

“Are you alright?” Thorin asks. “Just Peachy,” you reply, trying to sit up. “Yes. They’re all infected with parasites,” Bilbo says as you see Gandalf running in the background. Ah, so he’s buying for time.

“We don’t have parasites, you’ve got parasites,” Kili shouts and you kick him. He looks at you and you glare at him. He turns back to the trolls. “I’ve got huge parasites! The biggest there is!” he shouts and the company starts agreeing with Bilbo’s words.

“What would have us do then? Let them all go?” the troll spinning the spit asks. “Well,” Bilbo says and you laugh at your brothers silliness.

“I know what you’re trying to do! This little ferret is taking us for fools!” another one says, poking Bilbo in his stomach.

“Ferret?””Fools?”

“The dawn will take you all!” another voice interrupts and suddenly the trolls are turned to stone.

It takes you all a while, but you are all packed and ready to go by midmorning.

You glare at Thorin as he blames Bilbo for getting them into trouble in the first place.

“You are forgetting, Mr. Oakenshield that it was your two nephews that lost the ponies in the first place,” you growl out, poking the king in his chest.

He looks at his chest in surprise. A hobbit would dare poke him?

“I suggest you change your attitude towards Bilbo because he was the only smart one that had the nous to play for time, you cheeky little shit. Now, if there are trolls here there must be a cave nearby,” you say, looking around and leaving the dwarf and wizard behind with stunned expressions. You were such a feisty little hobbit.
