three dates to fall in love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part one. part two. part three. part four. part five (here). part six (coming soon).
pairing : hyunjin x gn!reader
summary : after a two year long unspoken hatred, hyunjin and you are forced to be costars in a romantic series, but when it comes to filming any of the romance scenes, you both utterly fail and are unable to get through your lines. the director threatens to take your roles away if you two aren't able to get past this within the next week, which spawns the genius idea from both your managers: can you learn to (fake) fall in love in seven dates and save your careers?
wc : 2.5k
cw : actor!au, enemies to lovers ?!, slowburn , not proofread, nothing crazy :)
a/n : im back from my hiatus and omggg i graduated from my masters program wahoooo! here's part five. let me know what you think! theres not much going on here to be honest........ its pretty chill

“Yo,” Changbin answers from the other end of the line, his heavy breaths echoing through the call.
“Are you still working out?” Hyunjin asks incredulously, pulling the phone back to check the time, “You said you were going to the gym two hours ago and you’re still there?”
“Gotta keep these bad boys in shape, ya know?” Changbin teases, a giggle ringing through as he is most, (and he is), checking himself out in the mirror, “What’s up though? Did you just get home?”
“At this point, you look more like a bodyguard than my manager.”
“I take that as a compliment! Thank you very much, but I believe you have something to discuss with me, hm?”
“I mean, it went well?” Hyunjin responds with uncertainty in his voice, causing Changbin to sigh from the other end of the line.
“Is that all..? Are you just going to call me every time to tell me only that?” Changbin asks with annoyance, unable to understand the actor’s unwillingness to share anything more about the arrangement he found himself in. “You know, I’ll just end up calling Chan and hearing it from him instead…”
“Huh?”
Changbin smirks to himself, knowing that would capture the younger’s attention, “Yeah, you know, Y/N has a lot to say. I know all about it. It’s the only way I know how things are going.”
“What do they say?”
“Why do you care?”
“I just do.”
“And I should tell you because…?”
Hyunjin frowns at the back-and-forth, feeling peeved Changbin, his manager, wasn’t divulging any information upfront, “Because I’m the one going on dates with them and I should probably know…?”
“I’ll tell you if you tell me how today went.”
“It went well, I already told you that.”
“Tough luck, buddy, that won’t do. How unfair, especially when Y/N has sooo much to say,” Changbin dramatically mocks a sob, “Yet you, oh, you have so little to offer. It’s like you’re not enjoying any of it.”
Hyunjin rolls his eyes at his antics, frustration bubbling within him, “I am enjoying it and it is going well. Is that good enough for you?”
“Nope.”
“Okay.”
“Okay… So, can I hang up now?”
“No.”
“So you want me to stay on the phone in silence with you?” Changbin asks, a smirk still plastered on his face because he knew, eventually, Hyunjin would relent to Changbin’s teasing. It was always like this, Hyunjin was hard to read and never shared much with Changbin, which honestly makes his job as his manager a lot more difficult than he’d like. The only times Hyunjin would be transparent with him about his emotions was when he was complaining about something, or the time he panickedly called him after his very unfortunate date with you, and how he realized what a big mistake he had made. Other than that, Hyunjin lips were always sealed tight. Either because he was a private person or was bad at vocalizing his feelings, Channgbin didn’t know, but he was getting annoyed at Hyunjin calling him after every day with the same three words every time. ‘It went well.’ God, those words were pissing him off and he felt like his time was being wasted because now, he had to call Chan and find out from him what was going on. After another few moments of silence, Changbin sighs once more, “Okay, I’m hanging up now —”
“N-no, wait!” Hyunjin interrupts him, a slight tremor in his voice.
“Okay, now I’m waiting.”
“Today went well, and I know I already said that, let me finish,” rambles Hyunjin, the words slowly clawing their wait up his throat, “It’s just… it’s a lot nicer than I thought it would have been. They’re super kind and welcoming to me even though I was a complete asshole to them.”
Changbin smiles victoriously to himself, ecstatic to finally hear this simple, yet salient confession out of the younger boy, “Oh, that’s good then. Sounds like they’re doing their best to make it work.”
“Yes, but I also… feel really bad about it too,” Hyunjin grimaces at the guilt he had been trying to ignore, it sneaking up to the forefront of his mouth as he speaks, “I really don’t think I deserve any of this from them, but they’re treating me sorta like nothing ever happened before and it’s a little weird to get use to this side of them. The more I realize how wrong I was about them, the shittier I feel.”
“Man, I don’t blame you, but I think you gotta give yourself some credit. It sounds like you both are handling this weird situation the best you can. Have you told them this?”
“Yeah, and that’s what makes this feel worse. They were so sweet about it, they comforted me when I was the one who hurt them,” groans Hyunjin, pinching the bridge of his nose as he squeezes his eyes shut, “And they… they said they need time to forgive me, which is fine! I get that entirely, but… I don’t think I’ll be able to forgive myself until they do?”
“Mhm, I understand what you’re feeling isn’t easy, but don’t you think you should at least try to be nicer to yourself? I mean… It sounds like Y/N cares about you enough, and if they want you to feel better about the situation, shouldn’t you try for their sake?”
“I guess, but it’s not that easy, Changbin –”
“I never said it was easy,” Changbin responds pointedly, “But wallowing up in guilt is no way to be living either, I’m sure Y/N knows that too and doesn’t want you beating yourself up this much about it when you’re both trying to move forward.”
“I don’t know…”
“Just give it a try, it won’t hurt. You can hold yourself accountable and still be nice to yourself. Alright, but I have to go now, so byeee!”
Hyunjin frowns, “Wait, no, you’re supposed to tell me–” only for him to be cut off by the sound of the call ending, “... what Y/N said…”
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Hyunjin decided to take both yours and Changbin’s advice to heart and do his very best to practice compassion, yet he forgot how terribly difficult that was until the next day arrived. In theory, it should be simple to just be nicer to himself, but his heart kept contorting and aching with guilt throughout the day, it becoming too much to bear as he tried to figure out how to control that emotion. He had to eventually learn to be in your presence without that harrowing, bottomless pit that would form in his stomach, especially if you two were going to be costars for the rest of filming.
So here he was, his face and ears tinged with red as he sat across you on a picnic blanket, an assortment of foods between you two, and a gentle breeze causing locks of your hair to dance. Despite the chilly weather, Hyunjin could feel himself being covered in what he can only describe as a cold sweat while his stomach flipped onto himself. He was nervous, anxious even, and he had zero clue on how to deal with what he called guilt, shame, humiliation. He wasn’t sure which word was the best descriptor for this very moment, but he could barely sit still, constantly fidgeting as he tried to turn his gaze away from you, hoping the blues of the lake would ease his nerves that had not stopped rapid firing since noon.
“You okay?” You ask, lifting a sushi piece to your mouth as you eyed Hyunjin with a cocked up eyebrow.
He freezes up for a moment, before forcing a nervous smile with a nod, “Oh, yeah, I’m fine!” He tries to force his voice into a more cheery tone, but he can tell you could see right through him. Somehow, you could read the faintest microexpressions from him, but he’s thankful to see you shrug your shoulders and not press on any further. It was almost as if you had the ability to read his mind, knowing when it was right to question his behavior or just let him revel in his own thoughts.
“Well, you should eat some more! I need some help finishing all this food Changbin ordered for us,” you laugh, picking up a piece of sushi between your chopsticks and lifting it towards him, “Here, open up!” you say in a teasing tone.
He rolls his eyes, “You know, I can feed myself,” but he felt his stomach bubble up with inexorable nerves, his words almost getting caught in his throat. You playfully pout at his words, “Oh, c’mon, just eat it! I know you want to.” You wiggle the sushi in front of his face in some poor attempt to entice him, but it was only causing him to become uncomfortably warm as he did his best to look anywhere that wasn’t your face. “Fine, fine,” he responds, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible as he opens his mouth as you plop the sushi into it, the beating of his heart thumping loudly in his ears.
“Good, right?” You smile.
He nods his head, his eyes crinkling at the overwhelming flavor as hums in agreement, “Wow, yeah, which one was that?”
“Mmm, I think that one is toro salmon? I’m not sure,” you giggle at his reaction, feeling pleased with yourself that you managed to whittle away at the awkwardness he wore around you. Hyunjin was constantly on edge around you, the nerves obvious in the frown lines of his forehead, and while you could understand why, you were hoping he would start to loosen up around you as time went on. Despite everything that has occurred over the past two years, you were starting to yearn for the friendship you and Hyunjin once had and wished to be able to return to that comforting time.
However, it was never that simple, as your desire for his friendship was often overshadowed with memories of his cruel words, how easily he spat them out to you without a moment of hesitation. A moment of innocent banter could just take you back to that time because somehow, his banter and cruelty shared a similar inflection, just enough to cause your eyes to prick with tears if you noticed it. The lasting impact his words had on you was a stark reminder for you to not so easily forgive him, to not forget what he was once capable of. But no matter how hard you tried to look past it and solely focus on your friendship with him, there was this inexplicable rift between you two, a hurdle neither you could just quite jump over, though perhaps it was this mutual understanding that allowed you both to understand each others’ quietness. It was strange, you two had become strangers that understood the language your souls’ whispered, but neither retained that fluency and were struggling to recall the words you once spoke.
The silence returns, enveloping you both as the wind hushedly howls, the sounds of birds chirping filling in the empty pages of dialogue as you each continue to eat. Every now and then someone would comment on the food, how good it tasted and thanking God for letting Changbin set up such a delicious day, finishing the last bits of sashimi that was left on the plate.
“Oh jeez, I’m so full,” you mutter, sleepiness slowly creeping its way into your body, “Ah, but we gotta take pictures, I don’t wanna deal with a whiny Changbin.”
Hyunjin snorts, knowing all too well the fit his manager would throw if his date plans were not followed through, especially when he made it clear to the both of you that he wanted proof that you two actually did take those pictures. All he wanted was for each of you to take photos of the other, a mini photoshoot by the lake, while also insisting it would be a great post for either of your instagrams. “Yeah, let's not do that to ourselves.” He lifts himself up from the floor, anxiously offering a hand to help you up, quickly retracting after you stood while ignoring the electric nerves bouncing at the palm of his hands.
“I’ll take your pictures first, okay?” You say, your phone already in hand as you gesture to him to stand in front of the lake, “Luckily, the sun is out, so maybe we will get some nice photos to post,” you add on. Meanwhile, Hyunjin, very stiffly, stood ahead of you, unsure what to do with his body and how to pose. Normally, he is good at this kind of stuff, he has done plenty of photoshoots in the past, but he was terrified at the thought of embarrassing himself in front of you. Before, he had never once had this concern, this worry, he didn’t know why these thoughts kept forming each time he thought of you. It clouded his mind, preventing him from seeing any logic or reason. “Alright, model boy, do your thing, I know you know how to work the camera,” you call out, snapping Hyunjin out of his trance.
If he wasn’t sweating before, he most definitely was now as he body overheated under the sudden pressure he put onto himself as he robotically posed, and you, as always, couldn’t help but notice the lack of elegance he usually carried himself with. “Oh, c’mon, what’s up with you today?”
“I… I don’t know, I’m just nervous… I think?”
“Well, I can see that,” you sigh, placing a hand on your hip, “But, you got no reason to be! It’s just me!”
“I think it being you is the issue,” he murmurs out, not really meaning for the words to slip out his mouth.
You press your lips into a straight line, “Right, I get that. Sooo, how about you pretend it’s not me taking the pictures, but Changbin?”
Hyunjin breathes out a sarcastic laugh, “Oh, yea, that will totally work, you make a very convincing Changbin.”
“Oh, right, let me just-” you roll up the sleeves of your shirt, exposing your biceps as you make a poor attempt to flex them, “How about now, is this working?”
Hyunjin found himself laughing loudly at your very sudden and unexpected antics, his stomach flipping onto itself as a flurry of affection rushed over him. You looked absolutely ridiculous, yet something about it was incredibly endearing despite the goofiness that radiated off of you. However, the sound of the camera shuttering from your phone quickly made him pause his laughter. “Hm, I think you look pretty cute in this,” you smile, turning the screen towards him to see you had captured a photo of him in the midst of his giddiness. He felt his cheek flush at your words, the shyness that had temporarily disappeared made its presence known. “I guess it’s not bad, just… a little different from what I usually post online.”
“Good different, right?” You ask, a smile still gracing features as the sun kisses your features, the wind gently brushing through your hair.
“Definitely a good different.”

no but like the writers were SO careless with the throuple???? like the s1 finale had aki and audrey going thru all of that to show max how much he meant to them, and given their persistence in making their case that the three of them should try this, I was expecting s2 to like actually let us see them navigate this new dynamic. show us the domesticity, the fluff, and yes of course the challenges as well, but give us some fun! but we didn’t get that!
the writers only cared about what drama they could wring out of the dynamic. suddenly they can’t communicate at all and are constantly withholding their feelings from each other -- aki and audrey sabotaging max’s attempts to go public instead of telling him that it’s scary to be out; aki being nervous about bottoming (pls don’t get me started on how much I hate that the show was obsessed w the trio’s sex life........ I do not have the time for that on this post) and going to another student for tips, instead of being upfront w his partners; audrey assuming aki and max are going to abandon her and causing that whole scene before admitting her fears instead of just admitting how her issues with her parents are causing insecurity in their rship.
and then in episode 8 -- EPISODE 8 OF 10!!!! -- these writers decided to have audrey and max completely ignore aki’s film festival bc they were too busy with this stupid feud with julien. and then when aki is lamenting about feeling ignored, ingrid kissed him -- WHICH WHY THE HELL IS EVERYONE ON THE SHOW CALLING THAT CHEATING???? AKI DID NOT INITIATE AND HAD NO INTEREST IN INGRID MY GOD!! THAT’S NOT CHEATING!!!
but anyway aki is rightfully upset over the way audrey and max minimized this event for him and the narrative focuses on the fucking “cheating” aspect????? aki is never allowed to vocalize this feeling of being dismissed and sidelined??? and like my god the way these last three episodes made audrey look so bad, like her decision when learning about aki’s “indiscretion” is that she and aki should hide it from max?????? LIKE HAVE YOU LEARNED NOTHING FROM YOUR RELATIONSHIP WOES SO FAR??????
and all the stress about saying “I love you” was dumb bc -- AGAIN!! -- after everything aki and audrey did in 1x12, idg why they are having these issues. like yeah being startled by the abruptness is fair, but other than that it felt utterly nonsensical.
and then when max hears about aki cheating and audrey knowing and gets mad at them for always being a team and him being solo, he’s so right!!! like we even see it w the premiere w the two of them talking about stopping max’s plan for going public, like aki and audrey are constantly consulting each other w/o max’s input and it’s! so! shitty!
and like......... it’s just so fucked up that the season 2 finale’s thesis was literally the exact opposite of the season 1 finale thesis. in s1, aki and audrey were adamant that they don’t work as a couple anymore and their feelings for max are so strong and important to them. the season 2 thesis is that aki and audrey are an inseparable unit. like????????? aki and audrey were literally the ones that proposed “all for all or none for none” and then when max takes that seriously, aki and audrey are like “lol nah we still wanna be together”
like I do believe joshua when he says the throuple was meant to be endgame but with this utterly careless handling, it truly does not feel like it was worth it for the writers to go there at all. like god we got NOTHING in terms of them being domestic and having fun bc it was just nonstop drama and that’s when we actually got content of the three of them together.
also wow im sorry I hope this was coherent, I took medicine to soothe my very sore throat and it kicked in like halfway thru typing this up I feel v drowsy and my limbs are heavy I need to lie down bye

What's the point of this post? Raph and his mental heath uwu have fun! :D
Raphael across the franchise is often shown to have anextiy and I argue many also do have depression as well. Having a lot todo with why he carries himself the way he doss why he buckles under pressure. Why he is so quick to get angry and most importantly way many of the takes seem to have these low energy moments time to time. Ill get more in depth for each of my red boys. under read more cause it'll be a tad long
so 87 raph show and bits taken from the merag comics
03/07 raph the 03 show and 07 movie and any comics that tie into these I also take stuff from the dark horse comics as well for this raph. And a bit of the IDW ones 12 show/comics/some shorts I also take a bit of the idw comics for this raph more so cause they sort of share some common things rise is mostly the show and any stuff i’ve seen from crew and what not.
Over all though you do see Raphael display traits as just part of who he is. This is more for Raph over all under the cut well dive a bit deeper. No I get most this from shows and comics.
- Raph is one of the night owls out of the family (funny considering their life style) he has trouble sleeping mostly why he sneaks out so often to go to the surface once they have that freedom. - Raph displays anxiety symptom in many adaptions especially 2012 and rise
- Feeling numb or isolated, Raph himself even calls himself a lone wolf despite the family dynamic. And often sets himself off on his own.
- Chronic feeling of unhappiness usually cover by the whole always being mad one.
- Feelings of hopelessness or emptiness
-Mood swings raph can be fine one second then losing it the next

What this happy Jellybean? yes uwu
I would say he has just general Anxiety from watching a bit here and there lately. When things get a bit too stressful or something causes worry Raph kind of is often more vocal about it all. Even down to like Mikey getting hurt he was the most panicked. High stress situations tend to bring it out with him snapping as well. For 87 though I feel he has more recurrent depression. He just gets a few episodes of major depression. Its something that is a bit reoccurring for Raphael. And sure can be notable he’s far more aggressive and becomes a tad closed off. Seeing how 87 is a bit more open with even physical touching this should be noticeable. he is also a bit more prone to breaking down. Raph isn’t a stranger to crying but when hes dealing with a depression episode? he a tad more likely to lash out and get worked up. Hes not really aware he has depression. Often just says he’s in a mood sometimes they are short and sometimes long and he will be upfront about it. “hmm sorry just in a mood I haven’t slept maybe i’m tried guys.” kind of logic to his who deal. Considering the time mental health wasn’t talked as much so I can see others taking it at face vaule outside his brothers and close friends i wager cause they tend to be a bit more keyed into Raph’s emotional state. He deff seeks to fight more as well so spends a good more time with Casey cause he needs to vent it out. So Casey growing over protective of him? yeah hits him during those episodes.
2003 Raphael
Tumblr media
Oh the one who started this headcannon of mine so long ago uwu
This boy has clear anxiety personal I feel all the turtles have forms of PTSD cause they go through shit. Which is what I say Raph has, it gets worse when he and his brothers are in some pretty bad spots. He tends to fine when Leo’s around however I know its slightly stated as a joke but the fact Raph didn’t snap back or hit Mikey says a lot. In Samurai tourist Mikey goes on about all Leo dose for the family and how him being Leo allows them all freedom. Like Raph not having to worry about thinking because Leo thinks for him. Despite himself he relies on Leo to make the hard choices even if he sometimes dissagress with them when he dosen’t though? Raph is a great at what hes asked todo steal them a ride, sneak into places. When Raph is left to think himself? he tends to make poor choices and his anxiety gets the better of him I say city at war shows they since he and Leo are on different sides nearly the whole time. Often this is why he is free to be reckless.
Depression oh this boy has Bipolar Disorder. Its the main reason for his reckless behvior. His mood swings, elevated mood, Anger*, guilt, hopelessness restlessness, self harm, dis organized behavior, excess desire for sex impulsivity and so on and so forth I could go on for Raph with this in truth.
A lot of why he is is because he is dealing with this it’s why when he gose to far into anger it’s like he is a different person in his blind rage. When Raph turly snaps he losses sense of himself. And needs to be grounded back again. Unlike 87 Raph though he dose learn he has depression but he don’t learn that for a good while. He just often is left to think something is wrong with him, and he dosen’t know what it is. He feels what ever it is will hurt those he loves and that how we get into
-2007 im obessed with this movie u-u
Since I write 2007 as a continuation of 03. So In the Raphael prequel comic we see how he got the Nightwatch name and such he took over the mantel from the previous Nightwatcher (I wont spoil this in case people wanna read that comic or whatever this video dose a good job covering it however) This takes place just before Leo leaves however. But they are told he will be so Raph already sulking during this. But this meeting with the previous Nightwatcher happens at the right time for Raphael in a way. Now as I mentioned before Leo is someone Raph look towards for guidance. Despite how they are and how he will fight Leo he respects his brother and will often listen to him and value what he says and thinks. So when leo was sent away? Raphael felt lost. But then he had this as something to latch on to. As the Nightwatcher he could still do good. However his depression got worse Once Leo left thier home slowly became undone, it was a slow change over time and Raph started to feel like it was him who did it. “Home been awful here is awful. Is it me?” He feels this thing that is wrong with him is doing it and wherever he gose it gets worse. He was fine at the start but as leo sort of distance during his trip Raph took it personal like Leo was happier away from them. When he is at home he feels he’s bring eveyone else down Don seems to find a girl who make him happy, Mikey seems to love his job and keeps busy. Splinter seems content. All Raph is doing is bring them all down with him. Slowly he become distinct himself the only thing that he seems to be doing right? is being the nigthwatcher cause all he is doing to everyone else is hurting them. Im sure he lashed out to all his loved one before he fully pushed all away. Small thing being a bit more testy and such and since he isn’t aware of his bi polar disorder just yet? He feels something is just wrong with him u-u One night wehn hes playing Nightwatcher he sees an accident at the docks. And it what kind of made him see his awful solution. He was just going to drag them all down with him Leo was safe and free good for him. But everyone else? Idk when or how he dose get confirmation on his depression likely when he starts trying to patch things up with everyone he dosen’t expect any of them to forgive him. But knowing in part why he got so bad? it helps.And I say after the event sof the movie since by then everyone is sort of recovering from everything is when Raph finally tells people about it not to excuse his behavior no he tells them because he wants them to know hes gonna get better. Its a miracle to him that Donnie forgives him and that hell him and casey even mange to get back together ;3;
2012 Raphael
Tumblr media
THIS BOY’S ANEXITY IS BASICALLY CANON IN THIS SHOW! Once more Im saying PTSD hes got some clear truama and truama bait and fuel uwu Raph Dose have an extream fear of bugs which dose count as a type of anxiety primarily though I would say 2012 Raph deals with Panic Disorder, he’s been shown to have panic attack before and they can get so bad he even hallucinates. I feel Raphael in 2012 dose also have Bipolar Disorder much like his 2003 counter part dose. Because he dose match many similar story beats when it comes to his anger issues. And he dose share similar symptoms the recklessness, impulsive, mood swings. His own anger often been seen worse by the team though Leo even pointing out they can’t trust him till he gets his anger under control. And he truly uses his anger as a defense and shield often needs to be snapped out of it because he too can go into blind rage when hes upset enough. He is far more emotionally connected compared to the 03 Raphael being referred to as being sensitive often even it’s because of those mood swings of his. He often has a lot of days where he feels low, he just dosen’t have energy to do anything. He tends to lounge around a lot on those days, he dosen’t mind being around others when he is but it’s kind of easy to notice because he won’t even get mad when having those episodes. Often its why he can be found brooding in the pool of water in the lair. He dosen’t mean to go ‘dark’ as in not as commutative but it happens. He even dose it to his family hell go to trianing but soon as its over hes just back in the water. No he dose know he has these issues, he might not know the exact depression and anxiety but he knows he has these issues. Thing is Raph is very in the mind set of “it’s all in my head, so it’s nothing to worry about.” in other words if I ignore it it never happened uwu. In other words he mentions it but down plays it as being no big deal. Im sure he’s done so with Casey on the days hes down and just wants to like lie around instead of get into trouble. If casey asks hell just says he just not up for it. He not avoiding it persay more feels it not  abig deal and so it shouldn’t be a big deal. His family are likely more aware he has it so he just assume they will know what up so he dosen’t always voice it to them. Dose being a tad clingy to them. Hang around Leo suddenly, may talk to Donnie about whatever they are working on, chills out with mikey willing letting them paint his nails/shell he just wants company more and tend to be needy for attetion those days.
Rise
Tumblr media
Now again his anxiety is very clearly shown he has separation anxiety for one. Raph didn’t have enough support or guidance growing up he had to grow up fast for his brothers so they kind of had it but he didn’t. THis has left him to feel insecure and even fearful usualy about if he is doing the right thing for his brothers and by them. HE has a more parental air around him when it comes to them. Hes hard on Leo cause he knows they are holding back and just cruising by. He coddles Donnie a bit because he knows they are bit more sensitive then he lets on and sort of babies Mikey cause he is the youngest and isn’t ready for them to grow up. Its why he freaks out when he is suddenly apart from them. It different when hes aware of it but when he suddenly finds himself lost? he panics. Depression can be hereditary and Splinter clearly has it himself. I feel Raph in rise however more has Atypical Depression, it can increase ones appetite and Raph eats like anything and everything at times. And adds to weight gain (been mentioned at times hes gained weight) He tends to sleep more but keeping to his schedule helps. He also is aware he has depression once more he might not know the type may down play it compared to his fathers own even. He likely told Yvoone he dose get depressed sometimes when she first is around to see that side of him.

OK HERE WE GO-
So, this train of thought was spurred on by one small realization: "Huh. MX Never says the "Innocence Doesn't Get You Far" line in the recent demos." And that may seem really unimportant at first but oh boy did it lead me down a rabbit hole.
So, MX's recent characterization has been rather... Befuddling to me. Not something explicitly bad, but rather something I'm simply a bit confused by. So, let's get some bullet points.
Current MX doesn't threaten or do anything scary to Lucas until sort of tricking him to starting the chase.
The way he talks feels very... condescending? Fake? It's hard to describe, but it just feels put on. "Hey there Champ! I left ya a lil something at the beginning of the level. It's a big surprise!" It's just odd to me, in a good way.
He screams more. Quite a lot more. "Lucas!" At the start of the chase, "You aren't gettin' far, Kid!" midway though, he's more vocal overall.
Now, let's compare this to Old MX...
Instead of calling out to Lucas to "Find Him" in his faker form, MX simply calls out his name, in a tone that sounds like he's trying to get his attention.
Instead of getting Lucas to have a head start with a sort of trick, Old MX just transforms completely and brutally and effortlessly murders a toad in his line of sight, before the game warns you to run.
His only lines are "Innocence Doesn't Get You Far", "WAHOOO!", "Get back here!", him calling out for Lucas, and his Lil Monologue at the end.
I could go into more detail, but, from all of this, it seems a bit clear that the character has changed a lot over time, right?
...Right?
...Well, apparently not. Because current MX still has old MX's ending Monologue, but without any of the character to back it up. It's something I've noticed where people don't realize that every single thing a character does is important for their identity and tells you who they are, not just the big speeches or moments dedicated to them. That fact is something I think EYX and OMT both understand, which is part of why I love them so much.
It's so odd, seeing this very vocal and upfront entity of Current MX get very clearly angry after getting out ran by Lucas, especially after yelling at the top of his lungs, only to suddenly start waxing poetic about the game, compared to the Quiet, imposing, brutal entity that was Old MX clearly still wanting to catch Lucas, but being much less personally invested in the matter. (And this is small but old MX's more eloquent than New MX most of the time so them sharing the ending monologue makes that tiny bit of less but that's not as important)
Just some thoughts that were in my head.
TL;DR - Innocence Doesn't Get You Far is a sick ass line.
I understand what you’re saying. It seems like the original version of MX was a bit more subtle (if that’s the right term) with his horror. Not as loud and giving Lucas a sense of false hope by giving him a head start before starting the chase.
The new version seems to be more of a brute by being more loud and showing off how dangerous he is by brutally murdering a Toad in front of Lucas.

Final Thoughts on You’re My Sky
“Point the biggest skeptics out” points at myself.
Fah and Torn:
Starting the series out I wasn’t a huge fan, not gonna lie, I really wanted to fight Fah up until ep 6. I was screaming Torn deserves better. (Torn? or Thorn?) But once they KISSED I was vibing with the pairing. They turned out to be very sweet. Fah was WHIPPED for that lil freshy. I think Torn did a ton of growing up in the one year we were shown. He dealt with a lot of ups and downs and had to learn to balance out his dependency on Fah and his actual love for the game.
Saen and Aii:
MY FAVES. I was shipping them since ep 1. Saen was so upfront and vocal about everything he was feeling, but also so kind and patient when it came to Aii’s fears and worries. They were the most communicative couple and I loved that about them. Aii opened up a lot for Saen and I liked to see his growth. Also I love that Aii didn’t find it too difficult to apologize? They were just perfection for me. Everything I love in a couple. The whole LDR part of their story really brought out Saen’s line of patience with Aii which I enjoyed seeing too.
Dome and Vee:
Turbulence on legs. I can’t lie, I didn’t like DomeVee’s concept at first. I was like “Dome how are you catching feelings for your girlfriend’s brother? And Vee HOW ARE YOU RECIPROCATING??” I was so worried that DomeVee would begin a relationship while Dome was still dating Pan because that’s how these dramas are, but Dome did break up with Pan before he and Vee kissed. Vee’s guilt was very real and that whole panic attack part was scarily realistic. I didn’t expect for things to get easier for DomeVee once Pan was out of the picture and it wasn’t depicted that way. Their situation was extremely delicate and I really get why they didn’t get together in the end but I was hoping for a less neutral reconciliation.
Also I enjoyed the actual sports? Like the basketball games were INTENSE! Loved the whole team ESPECIALLY FLUKE?? Vee’s struggle with his love of Track clashing with his forbidden romance was interesting. Wish we got to see Saen play soccer tho lol.
@placetneplacet go ahead and watch it! It is really great.

A Favor
Tumblr media
Summary: Being Roman’s babygirl comes with it’s own set of things for you to do, bookkeeping and knowing some of the people Roman meets was one of this things. But this new meeting with a certain Scottish businessman provides something, new. Drew McIntyre is a little bit of a mystery to your knowledge but he comes seeking a favor from Roman; a debt to be repaid. But, his suaveness and looks enraptured your own attention. Must to the behest of your man.
Warnings: A part to the Mafia Boss Roman series. Something a little later down the timeline. This was an idea I couldn’t get rid of which is why I wrote it now. I mean....their interaction on Friday was 🔥. And like I said in the previous one....this isn’t to be accurate...as much as it’s self indulgent.....just fyi
It’s been a while since Roman had asked you to sit in on a meeting. The very first one you’ve attended with a businessman who was very less than kind to the fact you were at Roman’s side, listening in on their business. Roman, on the other hand, loved having you at his side. And, in all honesty, you loved it as well. It meant the man was trusting you, allowing you to get a taste of the way he conducted his business.
At that very first meeting, he filled you in on your role in those meetings. You were allowed to speak and have your own mind. You were not meek, only their to listen. You weren’t “Roman’s bitch” as you thought you were in the eyes of the businessman. You had a critical role. Be Roman’s witness. Be a second pair of eyes and ears. It was later, after the meeting had ended that Roman entrusted you with the knowledge that, if you wanted to, you could have a more critical role in his meetings. He wanted you to be a little birdy; rounding up rumors and knowing the truth on those who he conducted business with.
Technically, it was Heyman’s job to be on tabs with everyone Roman conducted business, but the little stubby man could only know and keep tabs on so much information. Roman just wanted you to round up rumors. When you were not in Roman’s presence, or even around him, no one knew who you were. It was, almost, ingenious that it happened that way. Being the outsider to all of this had it’s perks in that way. If Roman gave you a name, you had the looks and intuition to figure this person for who they were, knowing their rumors in the interwoven webs of this life....and it wasn’t that hard.
Some men loved having...intimate, interpersonal relations with their staff. Some loved to blab to the right ear or just in general. You were able to slip into their circles, get the information you needed and report to Roman. And when he conducted the necessary meetings, you were at his side, whispering into his ear of the rumors you heard while the people would drone on about things. Often lying in the face of Roman, which you were not afraid to correct with a purr into your man’s ear. It was fun; having Roman’s hand around you, his large fingers stroking your side as he listened to you in his ear when necessary, and even watching the color leave people’s faces as Roman corrected them on the information they tried to spout, being figured out for their truths. Your role was, indeed, fun.
It wasn’t really a daily thing or an occupational thing. It was only necessary when Roman needed to talk with these people. And, that wasn’t often. People tried their best to ensure that the Samoan man didn’t need to speak with them. Because, usually, a meeting meant a warning.
Or, in some cases, some business partners wanted to speak with Roman. In that channel, things were different. You still, usually, did your best to learn what you can, but....the reasons for those kinds of meetings varied. Whether it be asking for assistance, checking in with Roman, cashing in a debt, catching up as if Roman was an old friend, or...in the dangerous case....threatening Roman.
The latter reason was dangerous. Not only to witness but for the person in question. And you’ve only witness it twice. One instance was with a man who was desperate, spouting about how he was going to get the FBI involved. The notion made Roman smile, before Jimmy and Jey gave the man a reason to keep his mouth shut, and Roman reminded the man of who he was and reminded him that he had eyes and ears everywhere, connections like no one else. There would be no way for Roman to get into the trouble the man thought he would, but....there was every reason that the man could lose a loved one, or even his own life for the threat at hand. That definitely made the man quell on his threat.  The other instance, was a threat the Seth Rollins had made to Roman. That one was different. Seth was almost as dangerous as Reigns. Seth has influences and just as many eyes in places as his counterpart. So when he felt as though Roman was stepping into areas that “did not belong” to Roman, Seth was vocal about it and had said so in a meeting. With a look of indifference to the other man, Roman agreed to stick to his own turf. With a smile, Seth left happy to hear that.
And those two instances answered a question for you; For what reason would a sheep threaten a lion in his den?
Well...if the sheep was a lion just the same, they would have no fear fighting.
That question and answered always set you on edge when Roman was contacted to meet with someone, instead of Jimmy and Jey picking up the person.
And it was that small fear you had as yet another businessman had contacted Roman to meet with him. But curiosity drove you more than your own fear. You didn’t know what terms this meeting was coming about. But there was an issue on your end, you couldn’t find a lot of personal information about this guy.
Drew McIntyre.
Heyman grumbles about hos this man embarrassed his last client; taking all that he had, leaving Paul to find new work....which is how he came about working for Roman, apparently. That notion was intriguing to say the least, and you tried to get more information on him, but.....he didn’t mingle with his own staff, or enough to cause rumors or anything. He wasn’t in any bad deals or anything, as far as you were aware. And....it seemed, he and Roman went a ways back. You tried to get Paul to spill but the man wouldn’t say much except for what he already told you. Jimmy and Jey also confirmed they had no dirty or anything on this guy. He was clean in that regard. And, he didn’t mingle in public affairs, so you weren’t able to find a clear picture of this man. Drew McIntyre left you curious as to who he was dealing with Roman. And, as such, that curiosity would get the better of you. Especially the night of the meeting.
As you and Roman waited for this man to be arrive, you took it upon yourself to ask from Roman directly. He was very honest with you anyways and wouldn’t spare you any details.
You were on the couch, plucking invisible fuzz from your cocktail dress while Roman was at his desk, Heyman not too far away from his boss. Both were looking over documents. Whether or not they pertained to this Drew guy, you didn’t know. But now was an opportune time to ask.
“So, who’s Drew McIntyre to you, babe?” you asked Roman, your eyes peering over to him. He looked up at your curiously, a document in his hand. Heyman gave you a small look that read he was displeased that you were so upfront about asking Roman about this matter. You gave both men a look of nonchalance and curiosity. “I couldn’t find many rumors about him. He leaves me feeling very curious.” Roman’s lip quirked at that notion.
“We’ve known each other for a bit,” Roman said. “A couple years ago, the man helped me when I needed it. Now, it seems he wants to cash in on a favor.” A favor? Now that was very interesting.
“Any particular favor?” you asked. Heyman’s frowned deepened as Roman chuckled.
“Babygirl, that’s what this meeting is about,” he answered. “So I wouldn’t know. I could guess, however.” You gave a slow nod before you stood up.
“Curiouser and curiouser,” you murmured, moving over to Roman’s desk. The Samoan’s brown eyes watched you approach. The sparkle of playfulness behind them as he started to collect his documents and hand them to Heyman.
“Take care of these for me, Paul,” Roman murmured. The small man collected the documents in his hands before leaving the room, to do whatever needed to be done with those documents. You smirked at Paul as he left before you moved around Roman’s desk and to where he sat at the grand chair behind it.
Roman had moved out from under his desk a little, allowing enough space on his lap for you to sit there, and sit there you did; one leg over the other and your arms wrapped around Roman’s neck.
“I can tell you’re very curious about him, babygirl,” he said to you. You gave a quiet sigh.
“Not being able to find much has left me feeling like I won’t be helpful to you,” you said back. One of your hands lowered to scratch under Roman’s beard. The action made him smirk.
“Having you by my side is way more helpful than you know,” he murmured before leaning down to give you a quick kiss. Roman’s phone buzzing on the desk had you turning towards it. Your man reached for it, looking at the message on the screen before putting it back down. “Drew’s here.” Your heart rate started to pick up with the small thrill that was sure to come by this meeting. Roman say the nerves on your face with his inquisitive, dark eyes. “This meeting should run without a problem, babygirl. I don’t think Drew is here to be a pain in my ass....this time,” You giggled at that.
“Alright, if you say so,” you murmured before giving Roman one last kiss before hopping off his lap. “I’m just....excited to meet someone knew that runs in your circle.” Roman hummed.
“I bet you are,” he said to you, standing to his feet with a small groan. You looked back to Roman, peeking at the outfit he decided to wear for tonight with a small bite of your lip. The same textured, navy shirt he wore when you two first met, dark dress pants and dress shoes. He looked good but, then again, he always did.
“Anything I should know about our guest before he’s actually up here?” you asked Roman. The man’s brow quirked in thought.
“He’s...a very large man,” Roman said.
“Large....large how?” you questioned.
“He’s a little taller than me, some would find it imposing,” he answered. “It will be a lot more apparent the closer you are to him. He also loves his wife more than he cares to be around people. Which is probably why you didn’t find a lot on him. He saves interactions for when he needs to. He’s a very reserved individual, which is more than I can say from when he was younger.”
“Really? you asked. “How come I didn’t find any news on that?”
“He got a favor from a man in Hollywood named Dolph Ziggler, had some things wiped for Drew,” Roman answered, checking his phone one last time. You gave a nod. No wonder you couldn’t find things on him. But....you’d probably learn a few things about this man from this meeting.
A knock sounded from the door, drawing your attention.
“Come in,” Roman called while moving closer to you. His hand settled on your waist and he drew you into his side.
Heyman opened the door, leading in a man who’s size had you frozen in place. Roman wasn’t kidding when he said he was ‘large.’ He didn’t look like a businessman though for the way he was dressed. He had on a deep maroon shirt under a leather jacket. He was clad in dark jeans and a pair of dress shoes that, surprisingly, fit the look. His long dark hair was neatly pulled back and his own, dark beard was trimmed to perfection. He was just another definition for gorgeous. Something alike Roman’s own looks, but yet...unique and intriguing to you. He had your full attention.
Jimmy and Jey followed Paul and Drew in, closing the door behind themselves before taking their usual place behind the couch reserved for the guest. Both made sure to have their hands clasped in front of them, standing with respect and discipline.
“Roman,” the guest greeted brightly in a thick Scottish accent with a voice just as deep as Roman’s. His smile gleamed in the lighting of the office and, you couldn’t help but watch as he reached for Roman’s outstretched hand.
“Drew,” Roman greeted with politeness. Drew’s bright blue eyes panned to you. He wore a pleasant smile on his face and....you did your best to ensure you knees didn’t buckle under his soft stare.
“And who is this?” Drew asked reaching for your hand to place a kiss on your knuckles like a gentleman. His accent was so nice to listen to, something deep and mellow but nothing that would make it hard to understand him. And you were so caught up in how the Scotsman talked that it barely registered you didn’t answer his question until Roman answered it for you, giving Drew your name. The man couldn’t help the smile on his face at your lack of answered, but he allowed your hand to fall back at your side. “I heard you found yourself someone new after all this time but I didn’t expect her to be a such a lovely sight.” The compliment from a man like Drew had your face feeling hot.
“Yes, indeed. I lucked out in that department,” Roman said, motioning towards the set of couches to your left. “Shall we get on to business?” Drew gave a nod.
“We shall,” the Scotsman answered with a tone of playfulness as he sat his large form on the couch opposite of the one you and Roman found yourselves in. Heyman made it his mission to stand right behind Heyman, watching in on this meeting. The man in front of you got comfortable where he sat, sitting all the way back, arms across the back of the couch and one of his legs crossed over the other. “The drive over here was awful,” Drew commented. “After work traffic and I see they’re building a new bridge on 27th street.” The man’s eyes looked between you and Roman before landing on you. “It’s just awful. Nearly got out of my own car because someone wasn’t paying attention to the road. Would’ve knocked their teeth in.” He was smiling at you, observing the way you gave him a small polite smile in turn.
“What do you do for work, Mr. McIntyre?” you asked politely, in part to get to know Drew but get information you needed for later. Drew smirked at you, lip quirked in a way that made your heart flutter.
“Please...call me Drew,” he said off the bat. “Mr. McIntyre is a little...too formal for me. Just call me Drew.” You did your best to not smile outwardly at that.
“Ok then, Drew....what do you do for work?” you corrected with a small, intrigued smile to the guest before you.
“I run a firm that deals in business consulting,” Drew answered. “Basically help others get to where they need to be in life by giving them honest truths about certain aspects of business.”
“So like....the hard knocks of business....the economy, business deals, branding and things like that?” Drew’s blue eyes held a level of pride and amusement to your question.
“Pretty much,” he answered, “My own business has been knocked down in the past and I took that as a learning opportunity, show, I’m just helping others so they don’t go down a self destructiveness my own business did years ago. And I’d rather be blunt about that information than sugar coat things.” You nodded along to his information. You were going to look into it later....just in case.
“Sounds like an interesting niche of work,” you said to Drew. He smiled.
“I like it,” he said, happily. “Lately it’s been better after I’ve taken care of Lesnar’s business. Huh Paul?” Drew’s eyes looked to Paul who was standing behind Roman. “His company’s management could’ve been better....or at least....on his own part. I see you found it good here with Reigns. I’m impressed with you Paul. This seems like a better fit and better line of work than what you had with the old brickhead.” Heyman stayed silent at Drew’s teasing but the Scotsman paid that no mind as he looked back at you. “Lesnar wasn’t a very great boss in his own right. Not showing up when his employees needed him, skimping them of their own hard work and money. It was no wonder why it went to shit under him. When I got involved with his business, things improved and we figured the only issue was with the boss and not the employees. But, I figured he couldn’t handle that hard truth and left then I took it upon myself to appoint someone who was better fit for the job. I didn’t think they’d let you go following that incident, Paul. In all honesty.”
“I also left on my own cogeneses, thanks for asking,” Paul mumbled.
“That’s good on you Paul. I hear Kofi and his partners have transformed that business into something fun and unique,” Drew said absentmindedly. “Good for them.”
“And what is Lesnar doing now?” you asked in curiosity. The man would probably still hold a grudge on Drew for him interfering.
“Probably on a farm somewhere away from people,” Drew answered. “Paul would know more about that though, I’m afraid.” Drew couldn’t help the teasing bits at Paul and, you couldn’t help but smile that he was trying to annoy Roman’s own little consultant. “I kinda want to know a little about you. What do you do?”
The question made you freeze. No one had asked about your own occupation. And....you weren’t sure if you were allowed to answer it.
“Currently I’m a student,” you answered Drew’s question. His eyebrow raised and he looked a little curious himself.
“What do you study?” he asked. “Besides the people Roman hangs around.” You smiled at that. The little bite of playfulness from Drew’s part almost made you forget about the Samoan beside you.
Almost.
“We’re off topic,” Roman said, his arms tightening around you. Drew’s eyes casted to Roman, trying to decipher the tone you could hear as well; the smallest zest of jealousy from your man. “It’s late, Drew. I have things to take care of tomorrow.” That was a lie but you didn’t want to say that in front of your guest.
The man looked to you, a little smile on his face because he probably knew the tone in Roman’s voice as well.
“What made you want to cash in your favor from a couple years ago?” Roman asked. The blue of Drew’s eyes went to Roman a the question. The playful and happy nature of his seemed to wash away. A neutral look replaced the smile and he sat up straighter on the couch, choosing to lean forward. He rested his thick forearms on his thighs while looking to Roman.
“I’ve been having a problem with a certain viper as of late,” Drew answered, lowly.
The “viper” Drew was referring to could only mean one person; Randy Orton. You figured out after a while of being around them that the boys had their own nicknames for certain people. For Seth, he was called “The Messiah” sometimes. The CEO of LEGIT BO$$ fashion company was none other than called “The Boss” when talked about by the men. Everyone that Roman knew or had been in contact with in his circles had a nickname. “The Viper” was just the chosen nickname of a guy who ran a company that was infamous in keeping people hidden.
Why would a guy like Drew be having problems with a guy like Orton?
You looked to Roman who nodded.
“Has he been causing problems of merit for you?” Roman inquired. Drew snorted.
“Understatement of the century,” the Scotsman muttered. You looked back at Drew who crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back in his chair. “He’s been threatening to take something I care about away. Make...” Drew paused to look over at you. “Make them ‘disappear’ like he tried to do to Wyatt all those years ago. Just, poking his nose into my business. Figured I could use the favor to look into this matter for me.”
“I see,” Roman murmured. “Are you asking me to take him out....or ensure he stays away from what’s yours?” Drew sighed, deeply through his nose.
“I won’t be sure until Monday,” Drew answered. “I wanted to be sure he isn’t a threat. Especially after. So....I am asking for your men to look into seeing what his plan maybe....and who he has in his corner.”
“Orton usually works alone,” Roman commented.
“I meant in terms of bringing his own troubles with him,” Drew said. “I hear Wyatt may be trying to get back at him for the incident from a few years ago.” Roman nodded.
“Makes sense,” he said to Drew. “Wouldn’t want Wyatt to be your problem as well.”
“Precisely,” Drew murmured. “So....is this a favor you can provide for me?” You looked to the man at your side, seeing him think.
“To cash in the debt you provided me a couple years ago...yes, I can look into Orton and his matters, and make sure he won’t be your problem....or Wyatt,” Roman said with finality. Drew let out a small breath of relief.
“Thank you, Roman,” Drew murmured. “I’ll consider that debt to be repaid when you can say, without a doubt, Orton or Wyatt won’t cause me anymore trouble after Monday.”
“You know I’ll try my best,” Roman agreed. “If that is all you wanted to inquire about, then I think this meeting is over.” With that, Roman’s arm left you and he went to stand, followed by Drew. Both men reached out for each other, shaking hands in finality to the favor Drew wanted.
“Again, thank you,” Drew said to Roman.
“You’re welcome, McIntyre.” The Scotsman gave Roman a small smile before his blue eyes flickered to you. Standing to your feet, recalling the difference in height as the man towered over you. However, you reached out your hand to shake Drew’s nonetheless.
“It was a pleasure to meet you,” you said to the man. Drew smiled, his hand accepting yours to shake a couple of times.
“The pleasure was all mine,” he murmured, leaning down to kiss your knuckles one last time before dropping your hand. The way your face felt hot at the small act. Your hand moved to fiddle with the fingers of your other hand as Roman’s hand draped along your shoulder. It was an act of Roman being a sweet kind of possessive. He obviously jealous by the large, imposing man, but not in the way you would’ve expected.
The way Drew smirked at that, made your heart skip a beat. Why did that look good on him?
“The boys will see you out,” Roman said. Drew gave a nod.
“Until next time, little one,” the Scotsman murmured before he followed the twins out of the room while saying, “I’ll keep in touch, Reigns.” Roman said nothing back but watched as Drew left the room just the same.
“That man can be such an arrogant jackass,” Heyman commented behind Roman who hummed his agreement.
“He can be,” Roman muttered. You looked up at Roman, seeing his eyes casted tot he door still.
“Aww, are you jealous?” you teased Roman. The man looked down at you. He was frowning.
“No, I just didn’t approve of the way he was looking at you and how you were looking at him,” he answered quietly.
“Baby, that’s jealousy,” you teased, turning to Roman fully.
“This isn’t funny, babygirl,” he mumbled. You couldn’t help the smile and giggle that escaped you.
“And what are you going to do about it, huh?” you asked Roman, encircling your arms around his neck, drawing him down just a bit.
“I think, I’m going to make sure you remember who’s babygirl you are,” Roman said, lowly. You giggled because the notion sounded delicious.
“I look forward to it,” you teased before kissing Roman. The Samoan made a noise as his arms encircled your waist.
“I’ll take this as my que to leave,” Paul muttered as he went to leave the room. Roman pulled away from your lips.
“You and the boys can go home and lock up, I don’t need anything else tonight,” he was quick to say to Paul before his lips moved back to capture yours, enthralling your heart into a quicken pace because you knew where this was going to lead off to.
You already know that your his babygirl.
And no one else’s.

In all honesty I got a little sleepy close to the end so I don’t think the ending is all that great...but I hope that this kinda was the expectation of the reader meeting Drew and Roman getting a tad bit jealous....idk lol ~Bri

KWAK AHYOUNG’S ROYAL REPORT
who is this clover fourth tier royal? what is she about? what is she hiding? and who is she paying attention to?
though she is not one to abide by orders and do what she is instructed to do to make her be ranked up to higher tiers, she didn’t think that filling out a report would be much of a big deal. a part of her wonders as to why the queen would want her to do this in the first place, considering she expected to do something more… verbal rather than something written. but she’d rather be writing about her experience so far as a “princess in training” in her room rather than going out and making sure she’s drinking tea the right way at a garden party.
as she reads the prompts of which she should answer in her report, her brows furrowed. why was there so many questions? surely, she isn’t expected to answer all of them, is she? no. she is only expected to answer three at least… but perhaps she could get on their royal highnesses nerves as a way to continue with being at the fourth tier. she was comfortable here, even if she could be possibly be kicked out of this life if she continued with her fooling around any longer. she’ll give them what they want… she’ll give them way more than what they want from her.
what would you say is your biggest fears? how would you cope if you were to face them in your life as a princess?
what a loaded question! she already knew the answer to this question, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to let it be known to them of all people what it was. then again… perhaps if she went on about her answer, they’ll grow tired and end up not reading it all. perhaps she should do that with all of her answers from here on out! that wouldn’t be much of an issue, would it?
she decides to save that particular question for later because obviously, she wants the least vulnerable answer to be the one the royals will be less likely to read.
in fact, she finds herself looking through past a lot of the prompts. of course, she plans on answering all of them, but she wants to make sure she doesn’t immediately make the queen think she’s putting her heart on her sleeve. she’d rather die than let anyone be aware of that.
TRIGGER WARNING FOR DEATH, DEPRESSION, EMOTIONAL ABUSE
in the case you were not in your position in your kingdom right now, what else would you be doing in this moment?
an easy question, really. she feels like she’s made it obvious to everyone about how she really didn’t want to be here. she did not wish to be living this life of luxury and power like her mother forced her to. she’s pretty sure she made some people question why she was here in the first place. even now, her heart still yearns for a certain path that grows distant from her every second she spends in the clover kingdom—or any of the kingdoms, for that matter. the most she can do is daydream… that, or have this whole competition for the throne to be over so she can go back to her normal life like she wanted to.
she writes the following:
“i wish to be a performer like my father. it has been my dream since i was merely a child. i have grown up loving music ever since the day i was born. had it not been for certain circumstances, i would try to pursue my music journey in another country far away from where the kingdoms are. perhaps, even farther away than where my family are. i’d like to believe my father would be happy for now, had i gone for that path rather than the current one i’m in now. as of now, his opinion doesn’t really affect my future anymore… unfortunately.”
what would you do if your title was suddenly stripped and you were banished from the palace?
an interesting question to consider and most definitely something the girl wouldn’t really seem to mind that much. though she’s found some company that’s made her stay at the clover kingdom, let alone the other kingdoms that surround the center of diamonds, she still would rather be anywhere else but in the position she was in right now. royal life was simply not ahyoung’s calling, no matter who or what tries to convince her otherwise. so, even though many people would consider banishment to be an awful punishment, she mainly saw it as an escape. a ticket to freedom provided by whatever action she has done. of course, she doesn’t have the balls to actually do something scandalous enough to get her banished, but if the opportunity was easier than it sounded… who was she to reject it?
she writes down:
“perhaps, i’d continue to live my life as it was before i arrived at the palace. even if my father is not here with me, meaning my journey to having a music career will be more difficult than it was before, i will continue to try and pursue that career path, as i believe it is my destiny. will it be even more complicated, as i’ll be known for my banishment? perhaps, but i could also use that as an opportunity to gain attention for what i wish to do in the future. the more people who will pay attention to me, the more likely i am to be successful in the music industry… right? that’s how it works, nowadays!”
onto the next question that wasn’t anything too uncomfortable for her.
if you could do something that would normally cost you your  title but without receiving those repercussions, what would it be?
an interesting question, as ahyoung couldn’t really see herself really breaking any rules just because she felt like it. if she wouldn’t have to get a bunch of scary punishments for it, she might’ve considered. but with how over-the-top the kingdoms were, especially the queen of clovers herself, ahyoung wouldn’t risk to do anything… however, if she were to not receive any kind of repercussions, her mind begins to delve into thoughts of what she could do. when she thinks of some ideas, she immediately writes them down on the paper so that she doesn’t forget.
“i’d slap the queen of clovers in the face. i know that sounds very bold of me and i would never do that intentionally to hurt her majesty. but i feel like if i did that, i’d prove a point to let everyone know how much this entire process means so little to me. not only that, but if i took the opportunity to disrespect her majesty while also getting away with it, i can already imagine how my beloved mother would behave. and i love nothing more than to see her be embarrassed because it’s what she deserves for being so kind and lovely to me.”
which other royal do you think is your biggest competition and why? would you eliminate them if given the chance? why why not?
she wasn’t really sure if she had an answer for this. because if she had to be truthfully honest, she really didn’t care much about the throne. she was only here because her mother forced her to and she was willing to not try at all until the day she eventually finds herself kicked out of the palace for wasting the queen’s time. but of course, stubborn to make sure that the queen plans to not read through all of her answers, she decides to come up with a random answer to this question, based on how she interacts with others.
“if i had to be honest, i think that baek dabin would be my biggest competition, considering we are both on the fourth tier in the clover kingdom. she likes to think of me as her main rival and while i don’t really see much point in the throne, i like poking fun into the rival concept every now and then because i think it’s entertaining how she thinks i’m actually trying when it comes to this whole entire ‘royalty turns to princess’ thing. and though i wouldn’t really consider him my biggest competition, i do want to be able to see if i can try and take choi jaejin down. i’m not particular fond of him. i feel like he patronizes me because of my low tier, but not in the way that han hyunsu does. while hyunsu is vocally arrogant and likes being upfront about his dislike for me, jaejin does it in a way that makes me feel uneasy rather than annoyed. really, i feel like i want the hearts prince to actually leave me alone rather than the other… who i don’t really mind much. that being said, though those are the people who i’d see as competition, i don’t think i’d try to eliminate them. i think that’s reaching a little too far, not to mention i think they have a better chance at getting the throne than me anyways. at least they want it.”
if had had the choice to either a) gain the crown but your best friend is killed, or b) save your best friend but lose the crown, what would you do?
when she reads the word “best friend”, her mind automatically jumps to the thought of him: son junyoung. she’s known the prince since he was practically a baby and the two have been through a lot together, even spending a few years away from each other before rekindling their friendship when ahyoung arrived at the clover kingdom. he’s the person that made her feel comfortable in this new life of hers, considering he’s had more experience with it and he, being the kind hearted gentleman that he is, was willing to help her along the way. to think of a reality in which she was able to get the crown rather than him… that sounded unreal, especially given the fact that she feels he deserves it more than she does. it’s not only the fact that she saw no purpose in being official royalty, but it’s more on the fact that jun needed that crown. he needed it for the most selfless reasons, meanwhile ahyoung’s mother wanted her to get it for selfish reasons.
besides… if she had to witness another death of a loved one that she could be able to prevent from happening, she could never forgive herself. she’s already lost her father. with the fact that she just got jjuni back in her life, she didn’t want to lose her precious friend yet again… but forever, this time.
“i’d easily choose option b, in which i save my best friend but lose the crown. to me, the crown is not that much of a big deal. it is not the reason why i’ve decided to stay a little longer in the kingdom rather than up and quit. my friendships with everyone here is what keeps me going and what makes me try even a little at staying in the palace for longer than i want to. not to mention, i had just reunited with my best friend. to lose him all because i’ve decided to be selfish… that’d be a grave sin that i’d never ever be able to recover from.”
what is your biggest desire?
easily a question ahyoung could answer. she feels as if most of her answers from before were already indicating it. at the end of the day, what else could she want in life? her true dream life was answered in the first question she answered and though her path to getting to that dream career seems more impossible than it did before, kwak ahyoung still found herself holding onto a little bit of hope.
even now, as a royal, she finds herself trying her best to surround herself with whatever she can get of that desire. she’d play the piano in one of the rooms in the palace and sing to random songs by herself so that she could be able to relieve her stress or anger or whatever upset emotion she felt in that present moment. no matter where she is, that desire always finds a way to reach out to her in the times she needs it, whether it be as solace or even as a friend.
“music is my desire. it always has been and probably always will be. i still wish to be a musician, but i get enough joy playing the piano and singing songs to myself. i also enjoy going to opera shows in the hearts kingdom whenever i can, even if that’s not the style of singing i’m totally experienced in. in general, music is my remedy. it is my comfort. it is my love. i would die without it.”
and it’s after this question that she returns to the question that threw her off in the first place.
what is your biggest fear?
“disappointing my father.”
she wonders if it’s appropriate for her to write more. after all, she wants to ramble as much as she can so that no one would have the energy to read it… but at the same time, it’s hard to talk about. after all, it’s the reason why she’s here to begin with. her mother told her that the least she could do in honor of her dad is do the one thing he’s worked so hard to keep her from being, making it sound as if ahyoung’s wish to not be a princess was a burden to the whole family. and even if she hasn’t said it, a part of her wonders if her mom thinks the same as her. that if it hadn’t been for her, he’d still be here right now.
it’s all ahyoung’s fault as to why she’s here. she just refuses to admit it because she wants to still find herself likeable.
she doesn’t want to believe her mother’s words, no matter how much they apply to her.
what is your biggest secret? (when answering this question, know that this answer is confidential and only the highness of your kingdom will read it.)
“fuck off.”
they did not need to know about her guilt over the accident. no one needed to know that she was the one who was driving the car. that had she been more careful, this whole entire situation could’ve been avoided. sure she didn’t mean to do it. the accident was simply an accident! but even then, the girl wakes up in the middle of some nights drenched in sweat, haunted by the nightmares in which she sees the car crashing right into them, the car flipping over on its side and how she screams for her dad’s name before she sees black.
she doesn’t trust herself to get behind the wheel. hell, she can’t even trust herself to be at the front seats. she knows it’s not her fault. she knows that it’s not her fault that the car came at her. their light was green, after all. it was the other driver’s fault. but even so, she remembers waking up in that hospital room and crying when she heard of the news. because at the end of the day, she was the one near him. she could’ve saved him at that moment.
but she didn’t.
what is your biggest regret?
kwak ahyoung is a flawed human being.
regardless if it was against her wishes, she could have complied with her mother’s pleas of getting her into the royal life earlier on. that way, she wouldn’t be as much of a burden in the family.
she wouldn’t have burdened her father with a wish that he’d have to fight with the hopes of it coming true and seeing her smile. so that way, on the day after his funeral, she wouldn’t have been told by her mother about how she had to make it up to him for burdening him so long until the day that he died.
that way, she wouldn’t have yelled at jun for leaving her for the royal life, seeing him doing it for his family as an “act of betrayal” because he told her a completely different reason. she wouldn’t have cursed at him and told him that she hope she’d never see him again.
she wouldn’t be here in this palace, despite her wishes against it, because of the accident that was caused by her. because of her father’s sacrifice for her.
with a sigh, she writes down her last answer before completing her report.
“surviving.”

NCT 2020 Reaction to: What To Do With Loving You
Tumblr media
A look at how the members would do for the one they love or how they might change from loving that special someone.
Taeil (The Manly Man, Yet Power Vocal, Sheesh~)
Tumblr media
When Taeil finally admits to his feelings, I feel like there may be some insecurity there. Being around you in the beginning he would never know what to say or how to start a conversation and he would fear that you’d find him not entertaining to converse with. As he gets more familiar with you and talks with you more, he would become more comfortable and you may find that he initiates a lot of the conversations. So by liking you and getting to know you, Taeil would be more comfortable with talking to others and initiating interactions.
Taeyong (Artistic, Passionate Rapper and Caring Leader)
Tumblr media
So long as Taeyong didn’t realize there were romantic feelings there, he wouldn’t have too much trouble talking to you. But once he did realize he may feel more for you, he would have these lingering glances and become more hesitant to be touchy with you (like hugs or playful pushing, so on and yada yada). This shift in behavior would probably be the biggest give away to his true feelings. Basically the opposite of Taeil, where liking you would make him act far more careful than he was around you before.
Johnny (The Mood Making, Yet Calm Sir)
Tumblr media
Very thoughtful towards you. Not so much in doing things for you or acts of service, rather he would be one to ask how you were doing and take an actual interest in the things you were doing. He would want to actually get to know you if he had an interest in you and would somewhat expect the same of you. A relationship takes two so of course he wouldn’t want the interest to be one sided and would want you trying to get to know him too.
Yuta (The Takoyaki Master, and Politely Keepin It Real, Osaka Man)
Tumblr media
I feel like Yuta would make it pretty clear how he feels about you. Yuta does not strike me as the type to give time to those who don’t interest him and he would be the one to initiate a lot of interactions or hanging out between himself and his interest. At the same token, he wouldn’t lie around his crush and he would be very upfront with his opinions. Probably wouldn’t mind a good debate if you are good friends and would enjoy conversation that goes both ways (not just one person talking at another).
Kun (The King of Magic and of Food)
Tumblr media
Hobbies are something I feel Kun and his crush would bond most. Even if they weren’t the same interests he would display interest in what you like to do and if he didn’t understand it he would try to. Kun would also be more than happy to explain his hobbies to you and tell you everything he knew about it. May even feel so inclined to look more into things just to have the chance to explain it to you. So in a way, it’s a light form of flexing and showing off the knowledge that he has.
Doyoung (Vroom Vroom; The MC Vocal)
Tumblr media
Doyoung would put his crush through the pits. This means that he would do the same wild and weird things he normally does, still have the same wit and sarcasm per usual, but triple that around you. This behavior is Doyoung’s way of testing your limits and getting to know whether you could handle him in his prime trouble making condition. Doyoung strikes me as the type to not shy away from someone or change how he is around his crush (while a good portion of the members do, Doyoung gets smacked pretty much at the top of them all). A big thing for him is having your support for all of his dreams and goals, and so making sure he has that is crucial for him.
Ten (Dancing Devil and Whimsically Cute)
Tumblr media
Remember Kun’s reaction? How he was soft flexing and showing off? Well there is nothing subtle about how Ten acts in front of his interest. He knows he is an exceptional performer and he knows where his talents lie. So anytime he intends to put on a show, best believe that he makes sure you are around to see it. This is meant of course in the best way. Ten wants to show the best side of himself to his crush in the beginning, and once you become better friends he would be a little more willing to show the different sides of himself. Ten values the first impression and since he likes you he wants to give you an unforgettable first impression of himself. So really, Ten would be pretty stiff and straight faced around you at first and only later on would he allow you to see his more bubbly and different sides of him.
Jaehyun (Sensitive, Springtime Lover, Mr. Valentine)
Tumblr media
Jaehyun would take the time to ask quite a few questions when getting to know you. It’s not so much whether you two would agree or not rather he’s making sure you don’t have too many views that skew drastically far from his own on things that matter (something like you hate plastic beetles and he loves real flies, something like that). Seeing how you talk about your views on things and how you go about disagreement is pretty crucial because he wants to be able to have conversations and healthy discussion with his potential significant other. Once he knows you and gets long with you, he would be very talkative and goofy around you.
Winwin (The Dancer of Grace, The Tough Cutey)
Tumblr media
I feel like Winwin would be like some cats. Where the less attention you give it, the more it wants your attention. Winwin wouldn’t want to be smothered or constantly cuddled by a potential crush right away, and would appreciate someone who gives him his space and someone who allows for there to be a comfortable silence. Being comfortable and being able to relax around someone is something that screams Winwin to me. If his crush can read him well and learn to understand him, then Winwin would be pretty happy around them. If Winwin was around someone like that then I think it’s possible he would become clingy to them or ask for more attention from them (AKA a decent fraction of cats).
Jungwoo (Stomach=Abyss, The Pure Vocal)
Tumblr media
A big sign of whether he could get along with you or not is how you two would get along over a meal. If you’re picky and don’t like to try new foods or things, then I think it would be a huge damper for Jungwoo. Being able to be open to not just food but experiences would be something Jungwoo would admire in a person and so if his crush had that he would be pretty smitten with them.
Lucas (That Low Low Rap, The Charming Wit)
Tumblr media
At first I thought Lucas may be showing off and flirting version 2.0. BUT, thinking on it more, I don’t think Lucas would be that way at first. More than likely, Lucas would be a bit funny and show signs of humor here and there, but save most of his charisma till after he observes you for a little bit. Seeing how you act and behave and take to humor would be a big indicator to Lucas on how to act around you.  So as odd as this turned out, Lucas would be an observer and with time and comfort he would be a lot more joking and playful around you.
Mark (The Hardworking Rapper, With An Adorable Sneeze)
Tumblr media
If Mark had a crush, it would only become relevant after talking to the person a couple of times and getting to know them. Sure he could look at someone and think “Wow they’re really pretty or they’re really cute or they’re really awesome looking and I wanna get to know them”, but it isn’t exactly the same as liking a person for the person. So only once Mark had gotten to talking to you and hearing a bit of your views on things would he be able to establish whether he actually likes you for you. The only true indicator I can think of that would show change in Mark is devotion of time. If he is putting in time to hang out with you, text you, call you, then he LIKES YOU.
Xiao Jun ( Humble Songwriter Agent Eight )
Tumblr media
Xiao Jun would joke around you all the time and be friendly for the most part, but he would be reserved on his interests and what he liked to do. He wouldn’t shove it in your face like other members might be inclined to do, and would hold back on showing you his talents and hobbies out of bashfulness and shyness. It’s not that he was ashamed of them, rather he was nervous to show you that side of him especially since he had only shown you his playful side up until now.
Hendery ( Music On The Go, Cucumber Inventor )
Tumblr media
Bonding over music would be so huge for Hendery and his crush. To be able to swap artists and talk about why he liked a song would be something he would enjoy doing and it would be a great way of getting to know you. Now if you weren’t the biggest fan of music (I wouldn’t believe you at first, but if you aren’t jam out to sound of nature my friend) it wouldn’t be a no go, it’s rather that music would be a massive BOOST to the whole crush process.
Renjun (The Loving and Smart Artist, The Virtuous Vocal )
Tumblr media
The biggest sign that Renjun likes you would come from him being the one to text you or him spending time with you. If Renjun is the one pushing for you two to spend time together, then that means he enjoys something about your company which means he enjoys you as a person. Renjun would think of you sometimes when you were apart and that would be when he realizes that he has feelings for you. Now he wouldn’t change much behavior wise, but if you are zooming in and paying enough attention you will find a tiny grin gracing his face when you aren’t looking (because life is a movie and the protagonist never realizes the crush people have on them).
Jeno (The Mature, Car Loving Violinist)
Tumblr media
I get the impression that Jeno is very much the “I didn’t tell you because you didn’t ask” type of crush holder. Would be the nicest to you and had no problem with coming across as super sweet. But Jeno comes across as sweet in general, so I don’t see it being why he gets away with hiding his feelings as long as he does. When you both are hanging out, pretty big on politeness and manners so he would do things that are polite. Acts of service are something I see as big for Jeno. As well as giving them, he would like to receive them. However he’s not vocal on what he wants, so you would just have to be able to understand after however long you’ve been friends.
Haechan (Sarcastic and Soft, The Lover and The Vocal)
Tumblr media
The opposite of Doyoung. ONCE Haechan realized he had feelings for you, he would be the sweetest human on Earth~. But BEFORE? He was an absolute tyrant who would take any chance he could to question everything you do because he could. I think Haechan would have this mentality: he knows he likes you but he has treated you pretty harshly and you were still there. SO, why not be nicer to you? Since he wanted you to like him too, he would hold down his urge to tear apart your silly decisions and become nicer. Now if you did something really really questionable-- then he’s not holding back. Haechan would be nicer to his crush than he was before not only to gain their favor, but also because he appreciated you and wanted to treat you better. This isn’t to say he treated you like trash before, rather he was sarcastic and sassy with you almost to a fault. He didn’t aim to hurt your feelings, and if he ever did (even before he liked you) he would be sure to apologize and make it right. All of this just means Haechan is extra nice to his crush.
Jaemin (Affectionate Nana, Dancing Pianist)
Tumblr media
A hundred percent would get as close as possible without crossing a line too far that would make him a flirt. He would have you constantly questioning whether he was just that friendly with everyone or if you were actually something special. And that is a hundred on purpose. He doesn’t want you to know how he feels just yet and this is where it would show. The ultimate way of saying I care, but I’m not ready to tell you everything just yet so I will keep you at a distance.
Yang Yang ( Little Sheep Racer, Mysterious Rose Zero )
Tumblr media
Has no trouble telling you and anyone around you that he has a thing for you. The caveat is that he would do it in such a nonchalant and casual setting that no one would ever take him seriously. Honest almost to a fault about his feelings. He’d be such a good friend that I’m certain at some point his crush would tell him, “You’re a really good friend”, something like the ultimate friendzone statement (aside from being told you’re like a sibling to them-- ouch). Honestly, not being taken seriously would really hurt him in the end, and I see Yang Yang eventually becoming less vocal about his feelings because the next time he says it he wants you to believe him.
Chenle (Sweet and Soft, High Vocal)
Tumblr media
When they go on tours or are out and about and he sees something that reminds him of his crush more than likely he would buy it. Showers his crush with gifts now and again, and because he invests so much time and thought in them I think Chenle would be the type to go ALL IN and fall for his crush hard. Now yes you are all wonderful people and lovely, but I think it would take Chenle a long time before he commits to a relationship. This is because while he falls hard he’d more than likely fall in love with the idea of being with you rather than you as a person. Thus yes, eventually your shining heart would win through and he’d actually start to see you for you. But the most important part of this is that establishment of a friendship first and foremost.
Jisung (Killer Dancer, The Shy Temporary Maknae)
Tumblr media
Saying it now and proud, you’d have to be friends for a while. I see it playing out two ways. One, you are friends for a long time and he develops feelings for you with time. Or two, he has a small crush on you BEFORE you are friends, and he hides it until he realizes he is in love. Just what I picture in me mind. Jisung if anything would just be more shy around you, but he’d still have the same level of sass and hang out and all that. I feel Jisung would probably think too hard about it and overthink the situation, thus it would take quite some time before anything more develops of this crush (like him actually asking them out).
Disclaimer: An important thing to note in regards to these reactions/scenarios is that none of them are based on how the members are in real life and are merely a depiction that fits the fiction (as I don’t know the members personally). These are meant to be lighthearted (aside from the angst that continues to rise on this blog) and I hope they are not being taken as pure fact or reality.
If you took the time to read this reaction, thank you so much for your time. Stay happy and healthy! Make yourself a magnificent morning/afternoon/evening/night whenever in time or whenever in the world you may be and I hope to see you all again soon. Bye bye~

answered May 2, 2020
Q: (Yoongi anon) ah thank you for giving such a long and thought out answer! Irl I’m usually good at analyzing ppl, but since I obviously don’t know the boys I do like discussing these things with other ppl, as it’s super easy for me to forget and overlook things (such as how you mentioned, Yoongs definitely stepped into the stern hyung shoes and has less qualms about taking a more leading role in bangtan etc.), which I do think all make sense! Also loved that yoonkook cc! It’s also fascinating to me how yoongs as a quiet person I think is able to vocalize his thoughts and stuff better than jk (though maybe that also has something to do with age hierarchy? But it could go both ways), but how Jimin once said Yoongi actually loves bts more than anyone else (I forgot from which interview or something TT), which kinda tells me that he doesn’t necessarily voice all those things out? Which is also different from namkook. Ahhh sorry you don’t have to answer this, sorry it’s super long TT (in response to)
A: yeah i think yoongi is super empathetic too, which is a thing he and jk have in common! he talks a lot about how sensitive he is etc, so i think it was probably unnatural for him in a lot of ways to take on that sterner role around debut! i think yoongi is very concerned with communicating honestly with people, so he's learned to express his thoughts and feelings in a way that's very upfront!
in my experience, there are some people for whom verbalizing things comes a lot easier than others. i think it's a particular talent, and while it is a skill that can be acquired to a certain extent, i think some people's brains just seem to do it more naturally than others' (for the record, i think this is why the way we think of "intelligence" is flawed, because it frequently just measures your ability to put into words what you understand about a topic rather than how much you actually understand about it. being able to understand how, say, a piece of machinery works and how to fix it is, in my opinion, a very different skill from being able to clearly explain verbally what you are doing and why.) yoongi has this talent of distilling his thoughts and feelings (and those of others) into words, so i think his empathy combined with this ability means that he ends up acting as kind of a translator for some of the others who don't do that verbalizing part as well as him (particularly taehyung and jungkook), and so he'll kind of stick up for them or try to clarify what they're trying to say when the others will often jump to teasing them about it! he's a very sweet boy!
also i think your original analysis of yoongi was very good! it's always fun to me to talk to other people about them too because it lets me see them from a different perspective. ultimately i think since what we see of them is so filtered and so performative, there are never any Right Answers to what they're actually like as people, and we're all just speculating! there are a million different versions of yoongi, or any of the rest of them, based on what the individual person chooses to take away from canon, and every one of those is equally valid!

Yeah the whole coloniser thing is just one of the reasons I do NOT want to see Anthony in parliament or even doing his viscount duties. Whenever the books would go on about how much the men cared about their tenants or even when they tried to make Simon some duke who gave a shit about his tenants I rolled my eyes. let’s be real every action these characters took they only really cared about themselves and their inner circle. Same goes for Anthony, he cared deeply about his family but it was clear he does not care too much about anyone outside his inner circle. I mean he roughly shoved on off the servants aside during S1. I get this is all escapism but books need to atleast put in a bit of effort for me to believe it.
In the Bridgerton books atleast there tends to be some musings abt places like India & Africa (by the men) and they tend to echo the colonial mindset of the time. But the rest of the books mostly ignore historical accuracy. HR as a genre doesn’t really care about historical accuracy. I mean I once read an HR where the heroine talked abt the need to wash hands to get rid of germs in a book set decades before germ theory. If they can do all these things then why do these books only care about historical accuracy when it comes to things like racism and consent.
I think accuracy with regards to historical romance is such a big can of worms that the genre just isn't fully ready to deal with. Because the reality is, imo, that these books don't exist in a historical world. They exist in something of a fantasy world that is influenced by history, but should not be held by its restrictions. I mean, a lot of authors are fairly upfront these days about how they may research history, but it's not (and can't be) their highest priority because they know that the MAJORITY of readers do not give a fuck about accuracy and just want a good story--a story that adheres, in terms of how things like gender, sexuality, and race are concerned, more to modern mores than Regency-era ones. But they'll still get the hate mail from the small but vocal minority of people that care about accuracy to the nth degree.
People who read historical romance? Imo, don't even know what historical accuracy is. If you go onto r/romancebooks, you'll see comments every few months ago from people that sniff that if it's not Georgette Heyer, it's not accurate, and they don't want it if it's not accurate. Usually, they're referring to the way sex and vulgarity is depicted in historical romance--and usually, they're pretty off in terms of their perception of historical accuracy. People were fucking, in and out of wedlock, and people could be preeeeeeetty fucking vulgar. It reminds me a bit of the Bridgerton fandom acting like Granville must be the one gay person on the show, because didn't you know, gay people didn't exist in the Regency. Sure, Jan!
These same people are willing to bury their heads in the hand about colonialism and exploitation and how that benefited the upper classes in the Regency, because that's just not fun, is it? I would actually argue, though, that for all that the Bridgerton books might mention colonialism every now and then, they're actually some of the worst I've read in terms of owning up to the problematic nature of the upper classes. Julia Quinn went on the record saying that she wasn't comfortable writing outside of the upper classes (or.... outside of white people, ironically enough considering the show's notoriety for its diverse cast) because she didn't want to break "the fantasy". She actually got into pretty hot water for that. It's actually interesting to see historical romance authors discuss Bridgerton online, because there's a much more mixed reaction to JQ's books being adapted because they are so insularly focused on this frothy "unproblematic" upper class--and I think a lot of people are still not sure of how to handle JQ because of those comments.
Obviously, I don't want to imply that she's some horrible person for making a gaffe or perhaps not thinking super critically in the moment, but it's just an interesting issue to consider against the backdrop of the show.
The reality is that there are a lot of historical romance novels that exist to serve a kind of fantasy--and it's an extremely white, straight, cis, extremely privileged fantasy. It's a world in which people can shut their eyes and pretend that nothing bad is happening to the people the dukes and viscounts etc. are relying on for an income. And we have to ask ourselves, why is THAT the fantasy?

Who Was the Center in Each BTS Era? (Up to Permission to Dance)
As an opening statement, I’m gonna advise anyone reading this to look at my blog to see if I’ve done this with the B-sides yet because I plan to in the future, which should be a pretty interesting post.
So, this post is exactly what it sounds like. As if I haven’t gone through the BTS eras enough on this blog (and I will continue to do so), we’re going through them again because sometimes I just wanna binge all the BTS music videos. What we’re gonna do is look at a few different options for who ended up being the center--if their was one--for all the BTS eras.
Those options will be: no center, center, co-centers, secondary center(s), and MV center(s).
Before anyone else says it: I know Jungkook is the center of BTS, but BTS have always been really flexible with their positions, and believe it or not, Jungkook isn’t the sole center most of the time. So, that’s why this post can even be a thing.
A couple things to bear in mind here: this is not based on line distribution. This will apply to the B-sides more than the singles, but there are times--even with BTS singles--where one member may not be the most represented within the song, but they were clearly chosen to center or co-center the song. Of course, more times than not, the center or centers are the most represented, but not always. There’s one high-profile one toward the end in which that is the case. Obviously, when I say “secondary centers,” that means that the member isn’t as prominent in the era as they would be if they were a co-center, as this would mean they and one or more of the other members are equally sharing the load.
This list also has zero to do with biases. I bias Taehyung like nobody’s business, but--and I’ll say it upfront now--he’s not been the center in very many instances (at least, not in the BTS singles; if you’d like to know about his time being the center in the B-sides, check that post out). Also, I’m considering almost all aspects of BTS’s eras when making these decisions. I’m thinking about the MV, I’m thinking about the choreo, I’m thinking about the vocal; the only thing I’d say I’m only considering sometimes is the marketing. I’m not going out to do a bunch of research on how BigHit advertised these songs to people for this post, so there won’t be a lot of talk about photoshoots or interviews or anything like that. That being said, I’ll probably talk about it when we get to Dynamite because the marketing for that was everywhere, and it’d be difficult not to know which member(s) they were pushing the most to sell that song.
Finally, as you can see by the above list, I’m going to be mentioning a MV center or centers--if it applies--for each MV. This is, obviously, something that can’t be done in the B-sides version of this post. The reason I’m adding it here is because there are quite a few examples of BTS MVs that really heavily feature a certain member when they aren’t that prominent in the vocal or the choreo. However, as the MV is also a part of marketing for the song, whichever member(s) were chosen to be the face of the MV have an important, central role to play. In fact, in many ways, the members that end up being MV centers without being a center in any other way often become one of, if not the, face of the era for a lot of fans. So, clearly, the MVs hold a lot of weight, and can sometimes overshadow the actual track for many people.
DISCLAIMER: Most of this is based on how I perceive the face(s) of these eras. Some of my conclusions are weird, and I can’t explain them, but it’s what I feel is true about these songs. Ergo, yes, there’s gonna be songs where two members have the same part, but only one feels like a center. Sue me. All the members have their different ways to shine, and that’s what makes BTS the best.
Tumblr media
Center: Namjoon
Namjoon just feels like the center of No More Dream. If you’re listen closely to the vocal, he’s obviously a big foundation for the song to stand on since he’s got all these supporting parts. Those parts add up to make him the member--no questions asked--with the most airtime in No More Dream. That’s not really why I chose Namjoon for this position, though. No More Dream really felt like an introduction to BTS with Namjoon as the MC. I guess a better way of saying that is that Namjoon really came off as the leader of BTS in this era. So, I didn’t really have to think much about who I was giving this position to because it seems obvious.
Secondary Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
So, I feel like some people would say Jungkook’s the center of this era, and that’s fair. The reason he’s listed as a secondary center here is because he didn’t feel like he had much in-your-face presence; it was more like, if you were looking for Jungkook, you could find him within the song and the choreo easily. I don’t know if that makes sense. It’s not like the chorus is a background piece or Jungkook’s rap verse isn’t fire, but he just isn’t as prominent as Namjoon is.
Jimin is much less of a secondary center than Jungkook in the No More Dream era, but if you consider the choreo, Jimin is extremely prominent. It’s one of those situations--which happen more often than you might think--where a member doesn’t actually feel that present in the track itself, but if you are visually consuming it in any way at all, that same member sticks out the most. That’s how Jimin is here.
No MV Center
I thought hard about whether Jimin and Namjoon should be in this category because of the insert shots, voiceovers, and the choreo, but I think that has more to do with the entire package of the era than it does with the MV alone. The conclusion I came to was the MV doesn’t have a center. This section probably seems redundant, but it’ll make more sense once we get to an era that actually has an MV center or two.
Tumblr media
Center: Jimin
This one’s probably pretty obvious to most people. I mean, this is a Jimin era. Usually, eras that are so heavily weighted to one member are Jungkook eras, so it’s interesting that the We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 era was such a Jimin era. I don’t know how to go into this further, but Jimin’s got the most parts--parts in the chorus, namely--so Jimin’s also the center in the choreo the most. I mean, I know this isn’t about taking the person who has the most airtime and giving them this position, but sometimes the eras do translate literally like that, and thus is this one.
Secondary Center: Namjoon
I was surprised, going through the MV, how much Namjoon appeared like a secondary center. I’m realizing that, for most of BTS’s early career, Namjoon was an important anchor for BTS’s music. That’s how it was in We Are Bulletproof Pt.2. It’s because all these parts that seem more like part of the beat than actual, singable parts go to Namjoon, so his presence runs underneath the entirety of the mix.
No MV Center
I know it seems dumb to talk about this when I say there isn’t a center in the MV, but this is kind of where I get to talk about the other members and how they fit into the era like, for instance, if any of them were close to being considered a center. Surprisingly, We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 is kind of the exact opposite; it didn’t seem like the MV really tried to enunciate any member specifically. Like, even in No More Dream, you could tell Namjoon was featured a lot, but this era didn’t do that. I found that interesting. I guess it’s probably because they were all just dancing on a chess board, but ya know.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
I couldn’t tell you why I don’t co-center Jimin with Jungkook, but Jungkook really feels like the face of this era. I don’t know if it’s the fact that he starts off the song--after Namjoon’s intro--or because he starts the choruses or what. I guess it might be because it’s a chorus that repeats during its two halves, so Jungkook’s voice is the one you’re going to pay attention to, since it comes first. Plus, this song was obviously produced to compliment his vocal tone because his voice is, not only layered under the other members’, but has more punch to it than the other vocalists’, as well. By that logic, clearly Jungkook was supposed to be the center for this era.
Secondary Centers: Namjoon & Jimin
So, as far as Namjoon goes, it’s the same thing I’ve said already: he’s working as the foundation for this song by filling in all the extra bits that support the track. Jimin, though, I wasn’t planning on adding--and I’m not really adding him because of the choruses. By the end of the N.O choreo, you’ve got Jimin in a central spot to finish off the performance as the instrumental closes out. As that part is so long and so clearly focused on Jimin, I couldn’t not put him down as a secondary center.
MV Center: Jungkook
Here we have our first MV center. Now, I will say there are stronger examples of an MV center, but Jungkook was obviously the main character in the school scenes of this MV. Of course, the school setting didn’t last the whole MV--and it’s not like the MV stopped and turned into a short film for a quick second like we’ll see later--but Jungkook still stuck out.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
So, I really struggled trying to pick out which members were the most prominent in this song, but we’ll talk about why with the next member. Jungkook and Jimin are the centers of this era for basically the same reasons. Both of them are on the chorus, and--more importantly--both of them stick out in the chorus. Both of them have these opportunities to be charismatic that they use really well, and both of them are out front during the choreo most of the time. It all adds up to them giving off “center energy.”
Secondary Center: Taehyung
I really thought Taehyung would be a co-center, as well, but he disappears halfway through the song. To be clear here: if we’re talking about the parts that Taehyung had in this song, and if those parts had ranged the entire song, Taehyung would be the sole center of this era. Like, watch any performance of this song, let alone the MV and dance practices, and tell me he doesn’t give off center energy. Anyway, after his parts are over, Taehyung falls to back of the dance formation and effectively vanishes--which is a real shame because he makes this era for me. Enough of my biased rambling--long story short, the first half of Boy in Luv has Taehyung as a center, and the last half doesn’t. A secondary center is the option that meets in the middle.
MV Centers: Jin & Yoongi
Straight off the bat, because of the scene during the bridge, Jimin and Jungkook are also kind of MV centers, but I’m not looking for “kind of’s” here. Jin and Yoongi were the ones who had the flirty scenes with the actress in the MV, so they stuck out a whole lot. It created a bit of a story around each of them and their characters in the MV, and the other members didn’t really have that.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
Who was jumping out their skin being surprised by this one, am I right? I mean, if we even talk about the choreography alone, this would be super obvious. When I first started learning about idol groups, this song is what I thought a “center” meant. This is obviously no shade to Jungkook himself because the members probably didn’t really have a hand in who was getting the most airtime or how much airtime that would be in comparison to everyone else, but BigHit really wanted to push Jungkook for this song.
I guess it was probably because he’s the youngest, he has a clear and soothing voice, and he’s the exact type of boyfriend material that’s easy to sell to young fans. I know this song has deep meaning that came from Yoongi, but the way this song was presented was so fluffy and soft, and my guess is that Jungkook fit the bill to be the face of it.
No MV Center
I mean, yeah, Jungkook stuck out the most, but that was because of the choreo, which is already covered by the center position. As far as the MV itself, no member stuck out more than another beyond the choreography. Jin, of course, does have his moment with the rose, but a.) that’s a part of the choreo, b.) it wasn’t long enough for him to be considered an MV center anyway, and c.) that piece of choreo can’t even make him a secondary center because the vocal line distribution was so heavily tipped in Jungkook’s favor--again, not throwing shade at Jungkook; just stating how the song is divided up. The long and short of it is that, while the choreo had central-ish parts for Jin and definite central parts for Jungkook, the MV didn’t do anything more with them than with the other members. No MV center this time.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin, Taehyung, & Jungkook
Just to give myself a backdoor here in case I change my mind on this later, I’m gonna say that I was sure the 95s would be secondary centers here, but after watching the MV and really paying attention to the choreo and line distributions, I think all three members of the maknae line stood out equally during their parts. Actually, the 95s do have a stronger vocal presence than Jungkook does, but Jungkook owns the choreography, so it more or less balances out.
I will say that Taehyung doesn’t feel as prominent as Jungkook does on the chorus, so that’s what made me want to put him down as a secondary center. However, the post-chorus is absolutely enough to make Taehyung stick out like Jimin and Jungkook. Jimin--dare I say--is the most center-like out of all three of them as far as general feeling goes. Again, considering everything, they’re all equal, but Jimin really reads like a center in Danger.
MV Center: Taehyung
All the members have got their individual scenes in the MV that are used for the inserts, but Taehyung’s scenes were clearly supposed to be the central ones since they, you know, ended the MV with him cutting his hair off. Even besides that, though, Taehyung’s parts in Danger came along with the best camera work and set design. I mean, there’s a better way of saying that, but I don’t know what it is. Like, go the MV and look at the first post-chorus so you can see how they framed Taehyung during that part. That really made him feel like the central member in the MV.
Tumblr media
Center: Taehyung
This is one of two (or few, depending on when you’re reading this because new music is always coming out) eras in which I can 100% say for certain that Taehyung is the sole center. If we’re talking B-sides, that number might increase a bit, but as far as singles go, Taehyung really does not get the opportunity to be the sole center that often. Anyway, explaining this would be like explaining the obvious. The brief for this era was “impish bad boys that look like they’re thirsty as fuck.” And Taehyung fit the brief.
No, but seriously, BigHit clearly wanted to sell War of Hormone as a song by a bunch of punk kids that have just a little bit too much fun, and if 2014 Kim Taehyung wasn’t a little punk, I don’t know who would be. Not because Taehyung’s actually a womanizing asshole--Taehyung’s clearly the softest and kindest person ever to exist--but because he can tap into that sensual and mischievous type of character really easily. He’s an actor after all. Plus, there’s the whole “sexy growling thing” they obviously wanted in the vocal, and Taehyung’s the go-to member for that.
Secondary Center: Jungkook
Here’s why Jungkook is the War of Hormone era’s secondary center: they needed a cute member to calm the whole thing down. I’m now going to put myself in the mind of BigHit as they were producing this track.
“We can’t have Taehyung out here killing everyone with his growls and his expressions and that tongue thing he does. We’ve clearly gotta put a soft bad boy character in there so this song doesn’t entirely decimate our fanbase. Put Jungkook in.”
In the same way Taehyung fit the super-duper bad boy brief, Jungkook fit the cutie pie bad boy brief, and that was needed to balance out Taehyung’s parts in this era. All vague descriptions aside, Jungkook was used as a support for Taehyung in the War of Hormone era, or that’s what it felt like, at least--despite Jungkook having more airtime. If, in any universe, Taehyung ever went easy on us, this era could’ve been a co-center era for the two babies of BTS. However, Taehyung chose violence, so Jungkook didn’t get a chance to pop out as much. Considering their overall discography, though, I’d say that’s fair enough.
MV Center: Taehyung
I’m mostly saying this because of the end of the MV where the actress--or her character--picks him, but also, Taehyung’s stage presence in this song kind of makes him the MV center anyway. Not the choreo--even though he’s the center of that for a lot of the time, too. I’m talking about his attitude, his expressions, his gestures, and on and on. That kind of made him the central figure, for me. Plus, you know, Taehyung got the girl or whatever.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
This song is so freakin’ weird because Jungkook has exorbitantly more airtime in the studio version of I Need U, but Jimin features really heavily in the choreo because they give him most of Jungkook’s final chorus when they do it live--which obviously means that Jimin centers in the choreo the most. So, it’s like: listen to the song, and Jungkook’s the center, but watch it live or in the dance practice video, and it’s Jimin. Either way, both of them read like centers to me. Even though Jungkook is in the song a lot, and therefore, has a big presence, Jimin’s vocal is the one I associate with this song because it fits so well while sticking out just a skosh.
MV Center: Taehyung
Most of me was thinking that there wouldn’t be an MV center for this era because every member had a story that ends up getting carried into the Wings album era, but then I remembered that the original MV for I Need U literally stopped everything dead so Taehyung could hit his in-verse father in the head with a bottle. And then, after that and a couple seconds of showing a few of the other members, the MV cuts back and forth between hardcore violence and Taehyung laughing with the other members.
The MV goes, “Wow, look at this. Taehyung’s so happy. Oop, now he’s stabbing his father with a broken bottle--oh, he’s happy again, that’s nic--oh. Oh, no he’s back to stabbing his father--no, look, he’s happy, so... Damn, that’s a lot of blood.” I mean. I don’t know if they knew already that Taehyung was good actor or what, but BigHit nearly gave him a short film all to himself. So, yeah, I’d say Taehyung takes the center position for the I Need U MV.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
I’m kind of naming Jungkook here because I feel like I have to, but I want you to know that the For You era is really close to not having a center, in my opinion. It’s more so the parts they gave Jungkook that made me put him down as a center. He starts the song, he ends the song, he’s got the first chorus, and there are parts where you go, “Oh, they’ll probably let that member sing here,” and then you get to the next line, and you’re like, “Ah, no; they went with Jungkook.” That’s not a bad thing, mind you, because Jungkook’s vocal is perfect for this song; it’s just that Jungkook had more airtime than the other members by a good bit. Again, I’m not making this list according to that, but it’s gonna be a factor in a song where every member sings on the choruses.
MV Center: Jungkook
Do I need to go into this a whole lot? Jungkook’s trying to get money to see this girl he likes, so the whole MV is about how the other BTS members are struggling alongside Jungkook but put together the means for him to go see the mystery girl. That’s the K-drama, and Jungkook is the lead. I mean, fair enough; Jungkook could definitely be the lead in a K-drama.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
I know this is a hardcore Jungkook era, but Jimin sticks out, like, a lot. At the very least, you’ve got to credit the choreo to Jimin in the same way you would for Jungkook. I mean, yeah, Jungkook’s vocal pierces the entire song, so he’s obviously going to center for this era. He’s a forefront figure in the choreography, as well, and putting him in that costume for the MV is essentially assault. However, I think Jimin managed to make his presence just as big through the choreo and his unique vocal tone. So, I’ve got to give the Dope era’s center position to both of them.
No MV Center
Since this MV is basically just the choreography, I can’t say Jimin and Jungkook were centers just because they were the choreography leaders for Dope. Actually, I thought the overall MV was almost equally representative of each member since they all had a different concept with their wardrobes.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
I mean, Jungkook just permeates every single cell of RUN. The choreo, the vocal, and nearly everything else are extremely centered around him. There’s not really a whole lot else to say. When there’s such a large difference between line distribution for the members, it makes it obvious that that member will be in the center of the choreo most of the time, as well. That’s the case for Jungkook in the RUN era.
Secondary Center: Jimin
This era is a little bit like the I Need U era, but Jimin doesn’t stick out quite as much. He does stick out enough to be considered a secondary center, though, because he’s also highly represented in the vocal, so he’s got mirroring parts in the choreo. Jimin doesn’t have as much of a focus in this era as Jungkook does, but it’s close.
No MV Center
I thought this would be like the I Need U MV, but it really wasn’t. You’d think Jungkook’s the center because of the bit where the camera zooms in on him while everyone is partying, and then the rest of them are gone, but there’s also several bits where Jin has close-ups while he spaces out. Or maybe Jungkook could’ve been the center because, after the music stopped, he looked back at the camera. But that can’t be it either because Taehyung had bits like that of him falling into and coming out of the water at the beginning and end of the video. Maybe it was Jimin because he got pulled into the room toward the end of the MV, but it was Namjoon who was pulled in at the beginning. Basically, they were all well represented, so there’s no center to speak of.
Tumblr media
No Center
This song isn’t really supposed to have a center, is it? I mean, we can talk about who had the most airtime, but that’s not what this is about. I think this song was supposed to be a message from all the members, so one member wasn’t going to stick out more than others. That’s just how it goes sometimes.
MV Center: Taehyung
Taehyung being the MV center is stretch, and I know that, but he does have bit of a role that makes him stick out at the end. It’s kind of like Jungkook being the center in the For You era--it doesn’t feel totally accurate to give it to him, but it also feels inaccurate to not give it to him. There’s that little bit at the end of the MV where Taehyung steps out of the maze at last and the other guys are waiting for him on the other side. Taehyung’s also the one to look back at the plane or camera or whatever at the very end; basically, Taehyung gets more solo shots in this MV than any other member, as far as I can tell without actually counting, so he takes the center position.
Tumblr media
Center: Taehyung
I wasn’t actually planning for Taehyung being the sole center for this era, but I feel like I can’t really justify anyone else co-centering with him. Taehyung does feature fairly heavily in the choreography, but a lot of the reason he ended up the solo center for the FIRE era is because of the part he was given. As someone who had heard “bow wow wow” everywhere before even knowing what K-pop was, I’d say it’s safe to call Taehyung’s part the most globally iconic--though Yoongi’s part is obviously the most iconic within ARMY. Plus, the end of FIRE is almost a full minute of just Taehyung’s solo with group vocals around it, so. I mean, he’s got hella presence in this era, no doubt.
Secondary Centers: Yoongi & Jungkook
Initially, I thought Jungkook was going to co-center with Taehyung because Jungkook is extremely centered within the choreography, but the “eh eh oh eh oh” part feels more like a supporting piece--which is absolutely fine, by the way. However, Jungkook is pretty damn close to being a center for the FIRE era because his vocal is absolutely everywhere, and he’s the center for most of the choreo. As an aside, I kinda wanted to add Jimin in this category because of the 333, but ultimately, that wasn’t enough to support him being a secondary center, for me.
Yoongi, I’ll be honest, I’m kind of putting in here because he feels like a center for the era after all the attention his opening line got. If I’m looking at the choreo or even the vocal, Yoongi doesn’t stand out as much as it seems (though his verse in FIRE is one of the best rap verses in BTS’s discography; fight me about it), but the fact that he opens and closes the song has a large overall impact on my perception of the FIRE era. Yoongi is definitely one of the faces of FIRE, at the very least.
MV Centers: Jin & Yoongi
So, though Yoongi wasn’t the main center for this era, in my opinion, the MV does make it seem like he is. Which, I guess, is mostly because of the opening scene before the music actually starts. But whatever; Yoongi still sticks out regardless. For Jin, I don’t know if it was because he doesn’t have that much airtime or what, but the scenes in the MV that focused on Jin were really focused on Jin. No other member got that kind of solo within the MV, so Jin’s parts seemed like they were meant to be special.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
I don’t know how to explain why this is how it is, but this is how it is. It’s one of those eras where the amount of airtime does predict the centers because of how much more airtime Jimin and Jungkook have compared to the other members. I mean, that’s what a main and lead vocalist are for, I suppose, but it ends up with these two being pushed so far forward in the Save ME era that you can’t really make room for another co-center. They’re also the two with the most central pieces in the choreography, but that’s obvious with how much airtime they have. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, either, because BTS’s discography celebrates all the members at one point or another. It’s just that Save ME was a song that suited Jikook the best, so they’re the obvious centers.
No MV Center
Since this is an MV that’s literally just choreography, there’s obviously not going to be an MV center. I mean, if you wanna say that Jimin and Jungkook’s parts meant they had more close-ups, and so they’re the MV centers, then fine, but that’s a bit of a cop out.
Tumblr media
Center: Jimin
This is one of the few--maybe even less than that--clear Jimin eras where Jimin is the only center. It’s not really that he has so much more airtime than the other members, but Blood Sweat & Tears is a song that just fits Jimin. He actually doesn’t have much central time in the choreo until the end and at the beginning, but it’s another one of those feelings I’ve got. I’m not saying this to alienate the other members because I actually do have my own opinions on who owned this era (check that post out on my blog, by the way), but this song makes Jimin shine the brightest. Every member has a song that does that for them, and this is Jimin’s.
Secondary Centers: Hoseok & Jungkook
Are you screaming at me for not considering Hobi a co-center? In the studio version of Blood Sweat & Tears, I’d probably put Hobi in as a co-center, but considering everything from the track to the choreo to the live performance, Hobi’s presence is just a touch smaller than Jimin’s. Just a touch. Like, they split his post-chorus with Jungkook live, and Hobi isn’t really a center in the choreo after a certain point, so it’s a bit like Taehyung in Boy in Luv.
As far as Jungkook goes, he’s not really a strong secondary center for this era, but he’s enough of one that he has to make this list. Part of it is because of his additional parts in the live performance and the choreo, but it also feels like Jungkook was meant to act as a visual and performative support for Jimin. I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone else, but it does it me.
MV Centers: Jin & Taehyung
I was gonna put Jimin here, too, but he only got that one shot at the beginning where Yoongi covered up his eyes that felt like it was really Jimin-focused. Taejin, though, had their own little mythology film going on. The Blood Sweat & Tears MV is the prime example of “this member doesn’t actually have much going on in the song, but the MV is all them, baby.” That’s how it is for Jin in this era. A lot of people say Jin is one of the ones who owned this era, and a lot of that has to do with the MV, what with the statue-kissing and all.
Tell me why I don’t feel like Taehyung was as big of an MV center as Jin even though Taehyung had a shirtless scene with slits on his back where his wings apparently used to be. I don’t understand, either. But I’d say a shirtless scene with wing slits is a pretty good reason to be included as an MV center.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jin, Taehyung, & Jungkook
After consulting the choreo because, you know, the MV doesn’t have it, I came to the conclusion that, both vocally and choreographically, these three are the centers for this era. Spring Day was initially an era that I thought didn’t have a center, and I don’t think it does have a super defined center, but I do see Jin, Taehyung, and Jungkook as the more prominent members. For one, the choreo really clearly centers around Taekook more than the other members, but there’s also the fact that all three of these members really stick out in the vocal itself. I landed on these three for my co-centers, but Spring Day is really close to not having a center at all.
No MV Center
I thought this was going to go to Jin because I thought I remembered him featuring in the MV a lot more, but he didn’t really. Actually, I’d say Taehyung and Jungkook are closer to being MV centers since the beginning has a little scene with Taehyung before the music starts, and there’s a bit around the bridge in which Jungkook has some solo-ish focus, but those things still aren’t quite enough for this position. All the members had their own inserts and settings, so it felt fairly equal all around.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
This was another era I was sure didn’t have a center, but Jungkook’s extremely prominent. Actually, I thought, if anything, the rap line would center in this era, but even they don’t seem nearly as prominent as Jungkook. It’s just that the lyrics are really repetitive for the vocalists, and Jungkook bleeds through all the vocal line parts. At least, it really feels like he does. As far as the vocalists go for this era, Taehyung’s vocal is the only one that sticks out, aside from Jungkook’s. But Jungkook’s vocal sticks out above all the other members--in terms of prevalence, mind you; the best parts of this song are obviously the rap verses. As such, he’s really active in the choreography, as well. It felt like I, more or less, had to give Jungkook this era.
Secondary Center: Taehyung
I can’t tell you why I’m putting Taehyung down. I was about to move on from this section, and my brain said, “Think about the chorus,” and so, I ended up here. This is all about that feeling I’ve talked about already. I think it’s because Taehyung’s the one that starts the chorus, and he’s got really powerful choreography to go along with his already powerful vocal. It makes his presence in the track and the live performance feel a lot bigger.
No MV Center
I mean, yeah. It’s a choreography-driven MV. When you’ve got the bits with them running or whatever, Jungkook centers a bit, and Namjoon kind of feels like an MV center, too, but a lot of that has to do with the choreography being shot the way it was. It’s the same with Taehyung since he got some great framing during his choreo parts. But prominent choreo parts do not an MV center make.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
I mean, there’s not really any way to get away from this one. I don’t blame BigHit, though, because Jungkook’s clean vocal is literally made for bright pop songs like this one. It makes sense that they’d want to use a vocal that blends in with the instrumental so well. As we know, the vocal affects the choreo, so Jungkook felt like a strong foundation to this song that the other members built upon. I don’t think many would argue that Jungkook is the sole center for the DNA era.
No MV Center
Can you believe I’m not putting down Taehyung, Hobi, and Jimin as a type of center, even though most people think this was Taehyung’s era, Hobi’s best work, and even though Jimin is the only other member on the chorus? Somehow, even though they all feel prominent in my memory of this era, diving back into it revealed that Taehyung is only prominent in the intro, Hobi is only prominent at the end, and Jimin is only prominent on the first chorus. How weird, right? They’re all almost secondary centers, though.
Anyway, that had nothing to do with the MV center, did it? There isn’t a true MV center because this MV is mostly the choreo. However, Jungkook is the closest one to being the center, simply because he’s got that little whistle bit at the beginning. Obviously, one scene isn’t enough to list him here, though.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Yoongi & Hoseok
Don’t ask me why I didn’t put down Namjoon, too. I wish I could say something other than “because this is what felt right,” but that’s the situation. I’m sure most people would say Hobi is the sole center of this era, and that’s entirely fair, but I felt like Yoongi brought his presence to MIC Drop just as much as Hobi did. The two of them, more or less, have the same amount of time in the center for the choreography, as well. Again, I wish we could be talking about Namjoon, too, but despite him having the most airtime in this era, he didn’t feel quite as front-and-center as Hobi and Yoongi. His verse is still fire, though.
Secondary Centers: Taehyung & Jungkook
Should I be doing this because I feel like it’s true? I guess we’ll find out. I don’t know; it seems pretty clear to me that JK and Taehyung were meant to be secondary centers for this era since they got the most central parts in the vocal line the most often. I feel like this is partially influenced by the fact that both of them murder the choreo when they’re in the center for MIC Drop, but I really do feel like these two stuck out.
No MV Center
Let me tell you, though, if we were bringing choreography into this discussion, Taehyung in the MV would make this list easily. He’s so aggressive in the MV, you know? No, but, this is another choreo-based MV. You know the drill by now.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
This one’s another obvious one for most people, I would imagine. Actually, at first glance, this looks like it’d be Jungkook’s era as a center, but Jimin has a lot of prominence, as well. The best way to describe it is that Jimin was the strong support he’s meant to be for Jungkook considering their positions as main and lead vocalists, as well as lead dancers. However, because of the refrain, Jimin then ends up also feeling like less of a support and more of a center in his own right. Basically, there was a lot of good give and take between Jimin and Jungkook for the FAKE LOVE era, which is why I ended up seeing both of them as co-centers.
Secondary Center: Jin
I’ll be honest--I don’t really get the feel of a secondary center from Jin in this era, but I can tell that that’s what he was meant to be. He’s very present in the vocal, and that translates to him being present in the choreography, as well--which ends with him in the center, if you recall. I don’t think this era is quite the era for Jin as a center, but he does still feature really prominently, regardless of how my perceptions may be situated.
MV Centers: Jin, Jimin, & Jungkook
This is another instance where I thought Jin was going to seem like a stronger MV center than he was, but it’s really the visuals of him toward the beginning-what with the windows shattering and all--that stick with you. I still think the theater of Jin’s scenes are enough to consider him an MV center. For Jimin, his piece wasn’t as stand out, but you can tell Jimin had extra focus on him when compared with Taehyung or the rap line. In the scenes between the last pre-chorus and the last chorus, Jimin did have a scene where most others didn’t, so he felt like enough of an MV center to include here.
Jungkook is probably obvious. He had a fairly long scene in between the last pre-chorus and chorus, so there’s that, but the overall MV seems to have more images of him than the other members. I imagine Jungkook was probably the main character for this story, though all the members had really cool set pieces and insert shots.
Tumblr media
No Center
I really was gonna sit here and be like, “Oh, yeah! Namjoon’s obviously the center!” But, listen, everyone’s parts in IDOL stick out so much that I don’t think it’s fair to say that Namjoon was the sole center. In fact, I’d say Jimin is actually the closest thing to being a sole center in this era, but it’s really only vocally because, as far as the choreography goes, he feels just as well represented as the other members. Ergo, this era is too chaotic for any one member to take the spotlight. Namjoon is the face of IDOL, though. And, vocally, Jimin’s pretty damn close.
No MV Center
I mean, the chaos was too much. Yes, Jimin has special focus on the bridge and during the final dance break on the chorus, but again, that’s just one piece of the whole. At the beginning, you’ve got a lot of shots of Taehyung, and then you’ve got the rap line having multiple focuses since they have two verses each. Jin and Jungkook got some cool focus during their parts, too, so an MV center isn’t really possible to find.
Tumblr media
No Center
Jimin sticks out the most in this song, don’t get me wrong, but that’s mostly because his vocal on the chorus sounds so special. It doesn’t exactly work out to be even in a literal sense, but the vocal line at least seem like they have equal airtime in this era since they all get to sing on the chorus. That meant that a true center wasn’t going to be a thing, especially since it’s almost one of those songs where every member has their piece and then they disappear for the rest of the song.
No MV Center
I mean, should I call Taehyung the MV center because of the beginning and end? I don’t think so, since it was only a few seconds each time, and the rest of the MV was choreography. I mean, Taehyung did kind of feel like the face of the MV because of that, but I don’t know that it’s enough of a reason to put him down here. He’s the only option for an MV center, anyway. Maybe I’ll feel the need to change this later. We’ll see.
Tumblr media
Center: Jimin
I’m still convinced that this was supposed to be an era dominated by Jimin. We’ll talk about Taehyung in a second, but when I first watched the Boy With Luv MV, I thought that Jimin was the clear center. I still do, even though my opinions on who owned the era are a bit different. Jimin is pronounced in the choreography, but his vocal is exactly the right color for a song that’s this bubbly. The choreo obvious matters a lot, but I think Jimin’s voice, more than anything else, is the face of this era. I know that sounds weird because of what I just said about Airplane pt.2, but that era was more like, “Wow, Jimin sounds so unique,” and the Boy With Luv era is like, “Jimin is the song.” So.
Secondary Centers: Taehyung & Jungkook
Jungkook does not feel like a secondary center to me because I find that he gets lost a bit in the Boy With Luv era, but like in the FAKE LOVE era with Jin, I know that Jungkook was meant to be Jimin’s support for this song. Jungkook feels nearly as pronounced in the choreography as Jimin does, and his clear vocal serves to fill in when necessary for this pop track, which is one thing Jungkook’s vocal color does best.
Taehyung, though, for all intents and purposes, shouldn’t really be a secondary center since his standout parts are the opening to the choreo and the parts on the chorus he shares with Jin. However, I don’t think you can find me any ARMY that genuinely deny that Taehyung isn’t, at least, one face of this era. Most people I’ve seen discuss the Boy With Luv era ardently agree that Taehyung owns the era, no questions asked. Whether it makes sense within the standards we’ve laid out for centers so far or not, Taehyung, his vocal, and his visual absolutely dominate this era. In terms of being the face of an era, Taehyung may come out on top as the sole center, but for the purposes of keeping this list objective, a secondary center he shall be.
No MV Center
Again, like, this is another situation in which Taehyung would be brought up if we were talking about the choreography; so would Jimin. Their visuals are so heavily tied to this MV, but it’s all attached to the choreography. Outside of that, no member had more solo focus than another.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin, Taehyung & Jungkook
I know some of you will be upset that Jin isn’t in this list, and I understand. Initially, Jimin wasn’t going to be in this list, either, but his vocal felt like it fit the tone of this song the best. Actually, here’s how I came to this conclusion: Lights was made for Jimin’s vocal tone, but Jungkook and Taehyung clearly stick out the most. As such, Jimin doesn’t necessarily have less prominence than the babies of BTS, but the babies of BTS were strong in this era. Jimin still deserves to be a co-center because of how well his vocal fits this song, but Taehyung and Jungkook were fucking power vocalists in the Lights era, so they’ve got to be centers, as well.
MV Center: Jungkook
This MV feels a bit like the Magic Shop VCR; it’s a lot like Jungkook is frozen or lost, and the other members find him. It’s not so pronounced like it has been for other MV centers, but it was still clear to me that Jungkook was the main character for this MV.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jimin & Taehyung
I mean, this would be an obvious choice if you really listened to Make It Right. When we don’t have choreo for a song, we’ve got to look at the vocal, right? The 95s are all over this track. Admittedly, the live does take just a touch of that away from them during certain performances, but the studio version of Make It Right is littered with Vmin. First of all, their solos are pretty pronounced anyway, but even if you listen to the crowd vocal on the “Oh, I can make it right” lyric, you usually only hear Taehyung plus the rest of the members singing in a clump underneath him. And if it isn’t Taehyung you’re hearing on the main vocal, it’s Jimin. Or Jimin and Taehyung. Like, I don’t know if it’s because these two have the most unique vocal tones in BTS or what, but their individuality really shone in the Make It Right era.
No MV Center
Unless the MV center is ARMY? I don’t know; Make It Right is one of those stage mix MVs, so it wasn’t gonna have a real MV center anyway. Unless the MV center is that animated couple that’s in the original version of the music video? Nah, I like the the idea of ARMY being the center more.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
I don’t need to go to the MV for this because Jungkook’s got hella pipes that’s he’s using for a hella long time during the bridge of this song, and that’s so much center energy. It’s been a long time since we’ve had an era that feels like all the other members are about equal, and then there’s Jungkook. It is what it is, though; I mean, the man is the center of BTS, after all. If I’m being really honest, though, the bridge is the only thing that makes Jungkook the sole center of this era. If Jungkook’s solo on the bridge wasn’t a part that caused the rest of the song and choreo to stop dead, the ON era probably wouldn’t have had a center at all because I don’t feel like Jungkook was all the pronounced anywhere else in ON. I guess me putting him down as the sole center tells you how impactful the bridge was, though.
Secondary Center: Jimin
It’s the “hey na na na” line, you know? No, but really, both in the choreo and the vocal, Jimin is a big foundation for ON. I mean, obviously Jimin has parts besides that line, but even as a whole, Jimin feels like a part of the basic structure for, both the track, and the choreography. I’ve felt this way about other members in previous eras, and I don’t know how to explain it well; think of it as though Jimin is a part of the beat. It’s essential to ON’s sound, even though it may not always stick out as an individual piece.
MV Center: Jungkook
Jin did have a bit of focus at the beginning, and I almost put Taehyung down as an MV center because there was a good bit in the middle where it was literally just Taehyung, but the entire story of the MV revolved around Jungkook, like, escaping slavery or whatever. I mean, the man blew into a conch shell and ran up to the top of BTS’s Pride Rock; if that’s not MV center energy, I don’t know what is.
Tumblr media
No Center
I’m gonna keep it a buck with y’all: the vocalists nearly all sound the same on the chorus of this song because of the effects on their vocals. It’s kind of cool, though, considering the message of the song. Like, the lack of individuality is almost an extra piece to the lyrics, but I swear to you, Taehyung is the only one who sounds distinct on the chorus of Black Swan. As such, no one could’ve really been the center for this song. As you can probably tell, the vocalists are usually the centers--if there is one--and that’s because they get the choruses, which repeat the most; they have more opportunities to be the centers. In an era where their uniqueness is stripped away, there’s not going to be a center.
Also, if you’re asking, “Well, if Taehyung is so distinct, why isn’t he the center?” the answer is: because all the vocalists have basically the same parts. Yoongi, actually, would be the closest, in my opinion, to being a type of center for this song, but the chorus is the base of Black Swan, and so Yoongi doesn’t quite fit, either. Nothing wrong with an era without a center, my friends. Just means more central time for every single one of our boys.
MV Center: Jimin
Clearly, this was going to be the case. I don’t actually find Jimin to be that prominent in Black Swan, but the MV is what makes everyone say Jimin is the face of this era. And there’s a good reason for that. The Black Swan MV is such a wonderful platform for Jimin’s gorgeous, gorgeous artwork. It was like a portfolio of his talent, and it’s absolutely captivating watching him dance. Of course, Jimin does have a small bit of centralization that the other members don’t have in the stage choreo, but the MV is where Jimin got to really shine. Black Swan is really the only era where, rather than a song fitting a members vocal, we got to partake in a song that complimented a member’s dance style. I hope BTS do more with this kind of combination later for other members because Jimin getting to shine like this was really lovely.
Tumblr media
Center: Jungkook
There’s really no other reason for this other than Jungkook’s vocal is very nearly the entire song as far as vocals go. Again, sometimes airtime predicts the center, and in this case, Jungkook has, like, double the amount of airtime when compared to the other members. So, obviously, Jungkook representing this era was the overall goal. Stay Gold is another one of those songs that benefits from a vocal tone like Jungkook’s, so that’s probably why Jungkook got such a large focus for this era.
No MV Center
Taehyung’s the closest thing to an MV center since he’s got that bit at the end where the camera focuses on him while he releases magic from the tree or whatever. So pretty he looks in the Stay Gold MV, by the way. If you’re watching all the way to the end, it does feel like, “Wow, Taehyung’s a bit of a main character,” but it’s really only at the end. So, no MV center this time as everyone had really beautiful set pieces that got shown fairly equally.
Tumblr media
Center: Taehyung
Call me biased; call me whatever you want, but Taehyung’s presence is so fucking strong in Dynamite. Yes, Jungkook has a lot, a lot of vocal focus; yes, he centers in the choreography the most, but have y’all seen Taehyung’s attitude? Dynamite is the second era on this list that I’m sure Taehyung is the sole center for. Here’s where we’re gonna talk about marketing a bit. Taehyung’s visual was used to absolute death for the Dynamite promotions. I’m assuming it was because the retro look was especially fitted to Taehyung’s style, but Taehyung was everywhere. Not to mention the parts in Dynamite Taehyung got were really important pieces of the song--such as: ending the song. The choreography, as well, though not centered around Taehyung, was absolutely dominated by him regardless because of the way he decided to carry himself in this era. I don’t know; maybe I’m seeing things other people aren’t, but to me, Taehyung was obviously supposed to be the face of Dynamite.
Secondary Centers: Jimin & Jungkook
I don’t think Jimin is as strong of a secondary center as Jungkook, but I do still think Jimin’s role in Dynamite was really important. It’s sort of because he was a foundational piece, but it’s also because Jimin came off as bubbly and fun during the Dynamite era, and I think that helped to sell the overall visual of the song.
Jungkook, I’m sure a lot of people will say, should be the center for this era. I feel like I can kind of tell that an attempt was made to have Jungkook be the center, but then Taehyung and his charisma kind of ended up blowing up once Dynamite was released. Jungkook, to me, has the true foundational pieces of Dynamite. The beginning of the choruses, for example, are the catchy parts of the chorus, but not the punchy parts of the chorus. You see what I mean? Jungkook did have the first verse, too, of course. I’ll say this: vocally, Jungkook is absolutely the center of this era. It’s just that, as a total package, he didn’t stick out quite as much as Taehyung.
No MV Center
I mean, the beginning makes it feel like Jungkook is the MV center, but every member has their own set and solo shots. Plus, you’ve got the improvised choreography and the insert shots where every member appears to be equally represented. I don’t really see Dynamite as an MV with a definite member at the forefront.
Tumblr media
No Center
So, there is a definite excess of Vmin in Life Goes On, which I think is beautiful because their vocal tones are full of emotion, but I don’t think that necessarily means they’re the centers of this era. If we were going based on airtime, Taehyung would be the sole center because of the amount of airtime he’s got, but again, I don’t know that it’s fair to call him a center for just that reason--even though Taehyung is very prominent in the vocal. Mostly, Life Goes On is a song BTS is giving to ARMY, so it feels like they’re all singing it to us, and no single member sticks out more than another.
MV Center: Taehyung
Jin does have a bit in the MV, just before the final chorus, where the camera stops on him for a moment, but it’s only that one part, so I couldn’t really call him an MV center. Taehyung--in the original version of this MV, at least--was definitely the one leading the narrative. Most of the MV was the boys having fun or singing to the camera, but there were also the clips of Taehyung driving BTS around, looking at an arena, longing to perform; it seemed like Taehyung was chosen to convey BTS and ARMY’s feelings about the pandemic and how much we all miss each other.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Jin & Jimin
I gotta be honest: getting a handle on the Film out era is kind of difficult because it feels like such a fragmented song--and that makes it beautiful, but it’s hard to pin down a representative for this era, even though it definitely feels like there is one.
Obviously, I’ve decided that there are two. Again, without choreo, we’re looking at the vocal. To me, Jin and Jimin’s vocal tones stood out the most in Film out. I found both of their contributions to this song to be absolutely stunning, but even being objective, Jin and Jimin seemed like they were supposed to be the ones sticking out this much. I assume that’s because this is a very ethereal song, and I think I can confidently say that no other member has the monopoly on songs that sound like Film out than Jinmin do. Jimin’s angelic adlibs and falsetto was the thing I noticed right away when listening to this for the first time, but the more I listened to it, the more Jin came to the forefront, as well. We may only have vocals to go on for deciding a center--especially since Film out wasn’t marketed much--but Jinmin’s vocals really took center stage for this era.
Secondary Center: Taehyung
I really don’t know what it is that makes me see Taehyung as secondary center for the Film out era and not Jungkook, but Jungkook didn’t feel that prominent at all, despite having written the song. Taehyung felt like the anchor for Film out, which is something I noticed within my first few listens. Jin and Jimin were definitely the shining stars, in my opinion, but Film out still needed Taehyung for balance. The last half of the song is where all three of these members shine the most, and I think it’s really clear that Taehyung’s vocal was able to add a depth of emotion to Jimin and Jin’s. I think secondary centers, to me, are the members I can tell are being used as supports for the center or co-centers, and that’s what Taehyung was for Film out.
MV Center: Jin
This is the exact opposite of Life Goes On, actually, because Taehyung was the one who was last seen in the MV, which makes it tempting to see him as an MV center, but Jin was the one present in the narrative for the whole MV. I don’t know what that narrative was for certain, but I think it was something like looking in from the outside and getting lost in some kind of metaphorical storm. Jin was the one doing all that. So, he’s the MV center, for sure.
Tumblr media
Co-Centers: Taehyung & Jungkook
Jungkook is a co-center, in my opinion, because it feels like he was supposed to be. I can’t really pinpoint what it is about Butter that makes Jungkook a co-center, but he’s got airtime on every chorus, which means he’s gonna be prominent in the choreo, as well. That’s probably what it is, now that I think about it. The chorus is the money piece of almost every song, so Jungkook being chosen to be in each of the choruses is a big thing.
Taehyung--look, I don’t know what it is about Taehyung, but the fact that he went from a single line in No More Dream to being this central in one of BTS’s biggest eras is insane to me. Like, listen. Taehyung got to start and end two seperate choruses--which means he’s pretty prominent in the choreo, but he’s also prominent anyway because he’s nearly always in the front--and he got to sing half of each verse. That never happens with Taehyung. Vocally, Taehyung has the most “I’m the motherfucking center” energy than he’s ever had. Something about this era has Taehyung way out in front, and I think that’s so fun since he doesn’t always get that opportunity.
Secondary Center: Jin
I wanted to put Jin down as a co-center; I really did, but the slight difference in vocal prominence between him and Taekook is what made me give him the secondary center position. Jin is still really prominent in the Butter era, though. I thought Jin really outdid himself with his vocal tone in Butter, and he’s been killing the choreo every single time they perform. Jin really does feel like one of the faces of Butter.
MV Centers: Jin & Taehyung
I wasn’t gonna put down an MV center, but didn’t Jin and Taehyung’s MV scenes stick, like, way the fuck out? Jin in that lineup scene did me in, for real. I wasn’t thinking straight for days afterwards. Plus, he’s got that scene during the second verse where he’s in that chair, looking like he owns three islands, and that feels like super big MV center energy. Then, you’ve got Taehyung in the elevator, which is one of his sexiest MV scenes, period. The attitude on him, I swear. The orange suit was the end for me, honestly. I know I just talked about how hot Taejin are, but the way they carry themselves is why it felt like they stuck out in the MV more than the other members. I feel like I can’t deny them the MV center title.
Tumblr media
No Center
This is another song that isn’t really supposed to have a center, you know? Permission to Dance is meant to send this hopeful message to ARMY and people around the world, and I just don’t think a center was necessary because the center is BTS as a whole. At the very least, no one really stuck out to me as a sole, or even, co-center. It felt like all the boys shared the load of sending us this message, so I can’t put a center down for this era. I think, for a song like this, though, that’s a pretty damn good thing.
No MV Center
Again, this was really an equal opportunity kind of era. Other MVs have really focused on each of the boys having their own set, and one member often sticks out because of that; the Permission to Dance MV, though it had solo shots of each member, was mostly just the boys, all together and having fun. I mean, Jungkook had that solo dance bit, but that wasn’t enough to sway me.
Okay, that’s it, for now. Let me know what you guys think in the replies. I tried to keep my opinions out of this because I was just looking for which member(s) BigHit was trying to use to sell each era. I’m excited to do this with the B-sides since there’s only vocals to go on, but doing this for the singles was super interesting. Thanks for reading!

The Problem with The Promised Neverland’s First Episode (Part 2 of 2)
Once again, let’s start with The Promised Neverland. This time, let’s move on from the opening scene and get further into the first episode (and chapter).
In both the anime and the manga, we get Ray asking Emma: “How old are you again? Five?”
Tumblr media
It’s an embarrassingly obvious tactic to get Emma to reveal her age, along with the fact that she’s the same age as Ray and Norman, as she responds with: “I’m eleven! Just like the two of you!”
This is especially stupid considering the fact that the manga already has Emma narrating certain information about the ‘orphanage.’ Here’s one example in the text framed by boxes rather than speech bubbles:
Tumblr media
Now, this is more my opinion, but I think narrating basic information in this way is far superior to the awkward dialogue that’s produced when characters are info-dumping for the audience’s sake. At least, in the case of narration like the kind seen in the manga, there’s nothing disrupting the flow of the story. We’re still told rather than shown, which should be avoided in most cases (like this one), but it’s better than blatantly forcing the exposition and ruining the believability of the story.
If the anime couldn’t have done any better, then at least just give us the narration. It wouldn’t interrupt the storytelling nearly as much, and while it’s still  undesirable, I think it’s better than telling through dialogue. With narration, the writer is being upfront about his telling, while telling through dialogue is a poor attempt to hide the fact that he’s telling. And it fails. Because everyone sees through it. Whether you’ve heard “show don’t tell” before or not, know how to use it in storytelling or not, it doesn’t matter. The dialogue’s still just... bad.
And, of course, we can’t forget the testing scene:
Tumblr media
If the test is going to tell us their ages anyway, why not just use that? It’d be a creative and effective way of showing the audience that Emma, Ray, and Norman are all eleven. All they’d have to do was have the robotic voice of the test say their names and ages while cutting to that person’s face. And, if the anime absolutely needed us to know that they were the oldest, why not have the test call out the names of the children whose character designs appear to be of a similar age? (We can merely look and see that characters like Conny or Phil aren’t as old as Emma, Norman, or Ray.) Or, at the very least, just add the narration that was a part of the manga’s first chapter? Even that would be better than what we get.
Overall, Ray’s question — or rather Emma’s response, as the question itself isn’t unnatural — is just yet another way that TPN fails to follow one of the most basic writing rules in existence. Still, this is only a little grievance I wanted to bring up, solely because it felt wrong to leave it out. Now, however, let’s get into the main point of Part 2.
Back to the test scene in the anime. (In the manga, what I’m about to discuss occurs after they play their game of tag, but it’s nearly word-for-word, so this argument holds true for both.)
After they take their test, and Isabella announces that Emma, Ray, and Norman had gotten perfect scores, the others express their amazement. This is all well and good — and the anime should’ve left it at that. It would demonstrate that the three were smarter than the rest, especially when highlighted by the fact that the other kids were impressed to hear Thoma say he might’ve gotten half right. (In the manga, a few of the test questions are shown, and some of them are just evil. Eleven-year-olds solving for a derived equation in 10 seconds? Getting full marks is insanely impressive when we’ve seen some of the questions, so why not show it in the anime?)
Yes, what I just mentioned would only demonstrate that they’re smart. But that’s all that this scene needs to demonstrate. It’s short enough that it doesn’t need to give us any more information, as we’ve still got plenty of time in the episode to learn other vital information necessary for understanding the plot.
It’s when this scene continues, however, that we start to see a real problem.
After they hear their scores, the kids vocalize, solely for the sake of the audience, the basic character descriptions of Emma, Ray, and Norman. They say: “Those three are different, huh? Norman is a genius who has the best brains. And Ray, an intellect who can compete against Norman’s genius. Emma has amazing athletic skills, and her learning ability allows her to stay close to the other two.”
It’s quite the way to take some of the fun out of learning about the characters, isn’t it?
It’s just… why does the anime (and manga) find it necessary to include this? Not only will we probably not remember half of it — which is for the best — but it lessens the impact of us learning about the characters ourselves.
If the characters truly are these things, we’ll see that through their actions and dialogue (which would show their deductive reasoning skills). After all, they are the ones who come up with the escape plan despite all the trials thrown at them. When we see this, we can deduce for ourselves that these kids are not only book-smart (which we learn from their perfect scores) but street-smart, able to solve issues that most eleven-year-olds would never be capable of. Through this alone, we learn most of the information that was told to us during the test scene. And Emma’s athletic skills are demonstrated reasonably well during their game of tag. (If that scene were edited slightly, it would be obvious that Emma is superior to the others in terms of athletic ability. This is a fault in the author’s scene construction.)
And we can’t forget the fact that their younger peers are saying this about them. Even if they knew these things subconsciously, what child would say something like this? They’re all smart, as they’re all high-grade meat, but they’re still kids. Kids don’t tend to break out into character analyses about their friends, especially not without any prompting.
So what’s the point of this telling?
Telling doesn’t serve any purpose, as we won’t believe it until we see it. If Emma, Ray, and Norman failed in their escape attempt because they weren’t smart enough, we wouldn’t believe the telling. But if their smarts are proven through their actions, than what point does the telling serve? Nothing. The only thing it accomplishes is forcing more unnatural dialogue that reminds the audience that they’re watching a show, not living in a story. And that sucks.
(Telling is often a sign of laziness or ineptitude, whether that ineptitude is truly there or the author simply believes they are inept at crafting a good scene. After all, it wouldn’t be needed if the author knew for certain that they had created situations to move the plot along while simultaneously demonstrating the characteristics of his three main characters. This telling could be a sign that TPN’s writer, Kaiu Shirai, didn’t trust himself to accurately portray his characters’ traits. Or maybe he just believed the audience was too unintelligent to understand his characters as he wanted them to be perceived.)
Let’s compare this scene to Attack on Titan’s first episode, where we learn quite a bit about Eren’s personality as Isayama introduces us to the story. All without telling anything about Eren, too.
Let’s use this scene:
Tumblr media
Isayama wrote this scene for a reason, and that reason was to reveal Eren’s core beliefs, and he does this through showing. (We’ll have to ignore the telling  about Eren’s father and his success as a doctor. Unfortunately, not even Isayama avoided convenient telling completely. But at least the information wasn’t particularly relevant to the story, so it didn’t ruin much other than the flow of the story.)
You see, when Hannes asks why he would ever need to be prepared for a fight, Eren responds with: “If they breached the walls and entered the city!” When Hannes brushes Eren off, Eren yells, telling him to stop calling himself a part of the Garrison and become a member of the Wall Repair Corps. And when Hannes reasons that they’re slacking off is a good thing because it means everyone is safe, Eren says: “Even if we can never leave these walls for our entire lives, as long as we eat and sleep, we’ll survive… but that just makes us like cattle!”
Not only do his words give us a little more information about what threat humanity is up against, but they also reveal so much about Eren’s personality, goals, and beliefs. We learn that he hates being caged in the walls, hates people who are satisfied with living in a cage, wants to go outside, and values living rather than just surviving. All through dialogue that flows and doesn’t slap the watcher in the face with its lack of tact.
Now, this:
Tumblr media
A little later, we learn that Eren’s willing to fight for his freedom, as he admits to wanting to join the Survey Corps. And he’s extremely dedicated, we learn, not because the show narrates to us that he’s dedicated (like TPN might do) but because he sees the horrors of the Survey Corps when they return from their mission and yet still wants to join them. After all, when Mikasa tells his parents that he wants to join their ranks, all Eren says is: “I told you not to tell them!” Throughout the rest of the episode, he makes absolutely no indication that he no longer wants to join them. In fact, he acts like he hasn’t been swayed in the slightest.
Not a single thing I’ve just mentioned can be considered telling. No, it’s all showing through dialogue that isn’t forced in any way, shape, or form, and that’s what makes it work. From Eren’s anger to his dialogue to his attitude towards the world and people around him, we learn everything we need to know about our main character without Isayama needing to tell us. Because Isayama does tell us. He just does it through showing, unlike TPN.
And that is the problem with the first episode of The Promised Neverland— while the episode could have been constructed to show everything that the audience needs to know, it wasn’t, and therefore it must rely on unrealistic, forced dialogue that ejects the audience out of the story it’s trying to submerse us in.

Hi!! I don't want to be rude (please don't take offense 😭😭😭) but the latest update was too hard to read. It was too overly flowery + detailed (if that makes sense?)! I legit gave up because I couldn't get through it 😭😭 Which sucks b/c I was really enjoying your style and was waiting forever!! I just think it could have been better if you edited it more. Like I said, I don't want to be rude but have you thought of getting a beta? 😊 It may help with that! Tho I still really love Appetence!!
Hello,
To be honest, I’ve been mulling over how to respond to your message for quite some time. Now, I understand you probably weren’t trying to be rude, seeing as you said so twice, but I’m at a loss on how to read this otherwise— if this was just a concrit of the chapter itself with things highlighted to change, I would have understood your intentions better. However, this just seems to me you wanted to vent because you didn’t like the update. If that’s wrong with how I’m reading your message, then I apologize.
I can completely understand your disappointment with the chapter— I truly don’t expect people to love every single one or gush over it. And, of course, I get the frustration it is to not have your expectations lived up to. However, after 64 chapters and 378k words, I would’ve hoped you’d know what to expect in terms of my prose style. I know this has been a point of contention with a lot of people (I’ve definitely heard enough complaints over my style) but I write the way I do simply because I enjoy it. “Flowery” language is what resonates with me and what I care to read. However, it would have been helpful to know which bits were “too flowery” and “too detailed” that you couldn’t read it. I’m aware I have a tendency to sometimes go overboard and I really don’t mind reminders to reel it in. What wasn’t working for you, what made this chapter different from my other ones— what parts were too convoluted or too wordy to understand, etc would have really helped me to know what to watch out for in the future.
What actually bothered me, however, was this “waiting forever” bit. So, as a gentle reminder, I want to point out this is fan fiction— it’s something I’m doing on my own and for free. Completely free. I can understand you were waiting for a new chapter but I’ve been very upfront about my health issues that were preventing me from writing. I had other priorities that were focused on recouping my health first and foremost. I’m not saying you meant anything by it but I constantly deal with demands to update and am being reminded I’m not producing content fast enough— so I hope you can understand why I felt particularly offended by the wording of “waiting forever” given the circumstances.
Regarding a beta, I’ve also been vocal as to why I don’t want one. The idea of having to collaborate and meet deadlines would make this seem more like work to me than a hobby— something I really don’t want to do. In terms of editing, I spend quite a bit of my time doing so— once again, if you pointed out which portions needed to be worked on, that would have been extremely helpful. I do try to catch my own errors, both in continuity and in grammar, but sometimes they slip through.
Sorry for the long-winded answer— this has just been on my mind since last night and I wanted to get it off my chest. It was just a surprise to see this pop up in my inbox, especially seeing as I was already iffy/nervous on coming back after my hiatus. This is the first time I'm writing creatively and I get I'm on a learning curve— but not receiving concrit I can use doesn't help me improve, you know?
All things considered, I’m glad you still love Appetence and hope future chapters are more readable for you.

well. 1 AM. Time to talk about Band AU of my ocs. I think everyone should make aus for their own characters actually.
So. In Band AU the og Tokyo mew mew was a band instead of actual magical girls. However. The aliens are still aliens bc I think that’s funny. They don’t wanna take Earth or anything just the Top Music Charts with their own tunes.
So then my ocs come in, Mira admiring her mom for being the lead singer of the tmm band. But Mira CANNOT sing very well. She’s pretty proficient in reading music and picks up instruments like it’s nothing but when it comes to composing her own stuff she does struggle. She’s energetic and practices Very Hard.
Aqua is still a robot!! Ryou was the manager for tmm and with aliens Threatening The Charts Again he builds a robot that’s basically a vocaloid with a body. Aqua’s a great vocalist and is pretty much awesome with whatever instrument bc she can just. Download the info! But like Mira, she kinda. Struggles with making more original stuff...when she does, it’s very generic pop with no real Deep Meaning 😭
Persimmon provides that much needed creativity. Unlike the other two, she really hones in on Just Guitar and singing and is ok at those, but is an AMAZING song writer and sorta the Creative Director, making them matching outfits, trying to manage the shows (talking to the lighting teams and set up crews, making their coordinated dances, and handling makeup/hair stuff as well...) not to mention she manages to help the other two harmonize better so they can all sing!! Turns out Mira on backing rather than lead is actually Decent!
And the opposing band... well. Queen is the manager/sponsor.
Arilla is her right hand and is more often than her actually there in person to do kinda co-manager stuff. Also I think he’d drive their big ole tour bus.
Tunillo handles the tech stuff behind the scenes and the mixing.
Pereskia does a lot of the set ups for the show and handles the heavy lifting, but occasionally joins the show (she’s got VERY pretty sounding vocals, but she wouldn’t like to be upfront so it’s more like backing vocals here n there. Also her and Sapote. Cats and Dogs man) she’s also more or less a bodyguard when things get too rowdy. Which is Often.
Erdisia helps with setup like Pereskia but wants to be in the Band So Bad but Queen won’t let her bc she keeps starting drama with Cara. She HATES IT. She’s constantly trying to sabotage things, making Cara look bad (untuning her guitar, turning off the mics randomly..) but Cara always manages to recover.
Saguaro does a lot of the little things like bringing water to the girls and making sure everything is tuned and working well. They make sure the girls are healthy and doin ok!! They go on food runs and shopping runs and basically things thatre important but overlooked way too often. Cinnamon roll.
Cara is the lead singer and shreds with a guitar. She’s got an incredible stage presence that’s had her in the spotlight for a while, and there’s rumors that bands and producers have been trying to recruit her for years... she actually has stage fright, but manages to close her eyes, drown out the crowds, and lose herself in the music.
Sapote is an amazing drummer. Very very chaotic and gets in trouble for bringing groupies on the bus. She can also play violin, the lute, the trumpet, and of COURSE the kazoo. She whips out different ones at random and it annoys Cara to no end bc she can’t stick to a rehearsed plan ever.
I think TM2 is a very quirky girl group basically, they don’t really tie themselves to one genre or mood too much but they have a clear aesthetic and are always matchy and appeal to a lot of demographics!! It’s music that can be fun party music and they also have deeper, thoughtful songs... overall just very Delightful.
The opposing band which I’m calling Tokyo Riot as opposed to Tokyo Mew Two, is very heavy metal/rock/ballad type songs that are usually more fast-paced and raw. It makes more delicate people clutch pearls. Of course because Queen has everything approved and manufactured, it can’t be TOO crazy. But sometimes she’ll look the other way if Cara n Sapote improvise with good results. Like. Money is money!
I think Cara sometimes yells stuff abt tm2 at shows to pick a fight, and Mira will retort at their shows when she hears abt it, and so these two very different bands are beefing and the public is like 👀👀👀 trying to figure out WHY and watching that social media drama like 🍿 speculating if Cara and Mira are exes or smth.. I do think they have regular Twitter fights AHSJSJSJ

“I just need to make a better record. I’m making a better record.” That’s what Taylor Swift said with striking calm in one of the most memorable clips from her Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, after finding out that her 2017 album, reputation, had been shut out of the 2018 Grammys’ Big Four categories.
Her next release, Lover, didn’t quite live up to Swift’s ambitions, at least on the awards front: In 2019, its only major Grammy nod was for song of the year, for the title track. But now, thanks to her record-breaking, surprise (and surprising) pandemic release, folklore, she may have made a record that’s “better” in the eyes of voters. Swift’s only album to spend its first four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, folklore pushes her songwriting into new territory, trading stadium-pop sheen for the subtle, layered production of prestige indie-rock, thanks in part to an unlikely collaborator: The National’s Aaron Dessner.
Dessner, 44, has been making music for over two decades, collaborating with everyone from close friends like Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon — with whom he co-founded the band Big Red Machine and more recently the independent label 37d03d, a partnership with Secretly Group — to Mumford & Sons and world-class orchestras. With nine co-writes and 11 production credits (some of which he shares with Jack Antonoff), folklore is Dessner’s most high-profile project yet and could well get him a producer of the year nomination. (He previously won a Grammy for best alternative music album with The National at the 2018 ceremony.)
‘’Jack and I thought this would be a record we loved but had no expectations commercially,” says Dessner. “So the fact that it’s this weird smash — of course it would be amazing to win or be nominated. But it’s not on my list of things I feel that I need to accomplish in life. I really couldn’t be more proud of folklore. And also just like, ‘What the fuck, how did this happen?’”
You’ve said the best musical experiences you’ve had have come from moments of spontaneity. How does that apply to folklore?
It’s exactly that. I feel like I would not have been able to go toe-to-toe with Taylor in the way that I did if I hadn’t done everything else that I’d ever done. To me, making songs with your friends in some basement 20 years ago or producing records for totally unknown artists is just as important as when you end up, by some weird stroke of serendipity, in a crazy collaboration with someone who is so gifted. I had really run the gantlet of so many experiences that I was in a spot where when she came, there were fireworks, musically, between us. And we had the work ethic to see it through.
Once she reached out to you, how did you prepare to work with Swift?
Well, I’ve definitely listened to all her records — I do that from time to time, just binge-listen to certain things — and I could tell she’s a savant. She’s such a performer, but so gifted as a writer. She told me upfront: “Don’t try to be anyone other than yourself,” because she was really gravitating toward the emotion in the music. She didn’t want me to try and be Max Martin or Jack Antonoff. I didn’t go obsess over “Shake It Off” or something. I had a lot of music that I’d been writing when she approached me, and I just sent a folder because she asked. Hours later, [she sent back] “Cardigan.” It was an unusual vein that we struck.
Was there any material of your own that you didn’t want to offer up just yet?
Definitely. It was more that there were some songs that are specifically one thing or another. The Big Red Machine stuff is quite far along — and actually, Taylor has been amazing [at giving feedback]. I’ve shared all of that stuff with her, and she has been really helpful.
Does that mean we will we hear her on a Big Red Machine track in some form?
[Laughs] I can’t really say, so I guess I’ll say neither yes nor no.
How does a massive pop star releasing what feels like an indie folk album allow other artists to feel less confined by genre?
Taylor has opened the door for artists to not feel pressure to have “the bop.” To make the record that she made, while running against what is programmed in radio at the highest levels of pop music — she has kind of made an anti-pop record. And to have it be one of the most, if not the most, successful commercial releases of the year, that throws the playbook out. I hope it gives other artists, especially lesser-known or more independent artists, a chance at the mainstream. Maybe radio will realize that music doesn’t have to sound as pushed as it has. Nobody was trying to design anything to be a hit. Obviously Taylor has the privilege of already having a very large and dedicated audience, but I do feel like it’s having a resonance beyond that.
Music is already moving in that direction with artists like Billie Eilish. Why did that approach appeal to Swift?
I think for people to hear what she’s capable of. That song “peace” — when she wrote that, it was just a harmonized bass and a pulse. She wrote this incredible love song to it that’s one vocal take. I definitely felt like I was exposed to a truly great artist in that moment, just to see her to carve into this sketch in a substantive way. Billie Eilish is a great point: There are people who are pushing the boundaries of what is and isn’t popular or mainstream music. To have been part of it and see it actually happen, I almost felt like, “Is it really going to come out? Is somebody going to come tell us that we’re ridiculous?”
Was there any anxiety over fan and media reactions eclipsing the work itself?
I had moments of self doubt, for sure, but I think that’s part of Taylor’s brilliance and kind-heartedness is to make me and others around her feel confident. She repeatedly would say, “There’s no hierarchy. This is as special and great as anything I’ve done before, if not greater, so don’t worry.” She has dealt with so much spotlight in her life, too much probably, so she knows better than anyone the kind of whims of the zeitgeist, so she was leading in that sense. We were on the phone when it came out, and it was a really special experience… We were just on the phone as people around the world were listening and reviews were coming in and the truth is, it went so well, that I have never thought about it again. It could have been the opposite.
In 2016, you and your brother Bryce, Justin Vernon and others launched a week-long Berlin residency called People that evolved into an online community for artists to self-publish work in real time. What’s the status of that platform now?
At some point People magazine told us that they own the word people in any media context, so we changed it to 37d03d, which is people upside down spelled with numbers and letters. We decided to start a proper record label in partnership with Secretly Group, and we put out as much music as we possibly can with the idea that — and this is very much a part of folklore — eventually there’s a large community of people feeding into the music and making it as great as it can be. [We’re] trying to create a label that really embraces that, and where decisions aren’t commercially driven. If somebody comes to us with this crazy noise record, we’re as interested in that as hit songs on some other record.
You and Swift made folklore without ever being in the same room. How do you see the pandemic changing the music industry?
I do think the way that we’ve had to embrace collaborating remotely and being open to it is a powerful thing. Everything is on pause, and everyone is listening in a different way. I’d like to believe that this is a chance for some shifts to happen.
