oops i saw that video of ferdie watching ads and my brain was all “wake up new dreamling meetcute just dropped” and really ran away with me and became a ridiculous sappy improbable thing
AU where dream is the model in an ad and hob is traveling for an academic conference. he’s watching tv in his hotel room late at night and sees this ad with dream in it. it’s some silly and forgettable TV commercial but the man in it may possibly be the most gorgeous person hob’s ever seen in his life? anyway hob can’t sleep, partially because he’s nervous for his panel the next day, partially because he’s stuck on Gorgeous Guy From the Ad and feels incredibly silly for it. it was a two minute appearance. matthew really is right that hob needs to get out more if he’s crushing on people in random TV commercials now
so he goes down to the lobby bar to get his mind off of things. it’s late and the bar is deserted - the bartender is about to knock off for the night in maybe half an hour. hob orders a club soda and is reviewing his papers when someone slides onto the bar stool next to his. hob is about to be slightly irritated that someone is In His Bubble at this late hour, when he looks up and sees it’s The Guy. the guy!!!
it’s the fucking guy from the ad he just watched, and somehow he looks even more beautiful in person, and hob is like, oh, okay, the stress of academia has finally gotten to me and i’ve lost it because there is just no fucking way
it’s such a ludicrous coincidence that hob sets down his pen and just starts laughing. the way you laugh at things that aren’t actually amusing, because it’s the middle of the night, and everything’s just a little fuzzy around the edges?
“is something funny?” says mr. walking wet dream from the TV, in a voice like slow-melted chocolate, and also with the kind of curiosity in it that makes hob realize he’s being totally socially inappropriate
“no—no, i’m so sorry. it’s just—god, am i dreaming? because you’re here, but i swear i just saw you—upstairs. well. not like—i mean. in an ad on the TV?” (completely not helping himself in the smoothness department)
the breathtaking stranger’s lips quirk up in a sardonic smile. “ah, yes. that.”
“that?”
“unfortunately, you are not dreaming. i did indeed feature in an advertisement several years ago. as my sibling dearly loves to remind me on every possible occasion, lest i let myself forget for even a moment.”
and hob expects the man to leave in a huff, or something. he goes back to his papers, dream orders himself a gin & tonic, but they’re watching one another in each other’s periphery until finally dream says, “i must admit why i sat beside you this evening. i noticed you were reading marlowe…”
to hob’s great surprise this stranger soon doesn’t feel like someone he’s just met. hob talks about his teaching post and the conference and the paper he’s presenting and the panel he’s on tomorrow, and how (“shhh, you mustn’t tell anyone”) his co-panelist tomorrow is an absolute pill so he’s dreading it. he finds himself sharing more easily than he expected in a way that you only can in the kind of liminal space that is an empty swanky hotel bar at midnight. they’re angled toward one another on their barstools so that maybe their shoes knock together or their ankles brush occasionally in a way they both pretend is accidental, and hob does his level best to be calm and collected about it
he learns his stranger’s story over several gin & tonics. dream’s ‘real’ name is morpheus. he wants to be a published author, studied creative writing. his father is the head of a major media/entertainment/publishing conglomerate and dream used to work for the company. when dream said he wanted to pursue something totally different (essentially… be a starving artist) his father saw it as a betrayal, and trapped him into continuing to work for the family for years on the promise of getting him the connections to publish his first novel or help him get funding to stage his first play… provided he could “actually” finish the manuscript
in the meantime his father had dream doing bit parts in forgettable commercials and made for tv theatre productions, partially as humiliation for daring to want to leave. (i really want him to be in a hair commercial where he broods about in silky black robes…) eventually dream lawyered up and severed ties. his father retaliated by setting up a kidnapping attempt on his own son that someone else conveniently took the fall for, and so on…
anyway - to make a long and tragic story short, now morpheus goes by dream, moved cities, has started his life over mostly estranged from the family, and he’s actually working on his novel - but he’s in town for a friend’s funeral and is staying at the hotel too
at the end of this story hob goes, “bloody hell. i’m sorry, my friend,” and it’s a bit over-familiar, isn’t it, for someone you’ve just met at a bar, even if you’ve just shared half your secrets. so hob is all, oh god oh god ohgodohgod, i’ve scared him off now—
then dream is all, “your friend. is that all you’d like me to be, robert gadling?” and he’s Looking at hob like he’s caught hob out in a lie. and hob’s breath is just… gone… gone away somewhere… and he has to admit that he may still barely know this man but there’s nothing he wants more than to know him in every way possible
and maybe they both go up to hob’s hotel room, and when hob kisses dream for the first time, cradling dream’s face in his hands, it’s more tender and intimate than it has any right to be and hob is just. flabbergasted because fuck. he just met this man and it feels like he could be content just to kiss him for hours and hours and hours. ok? like this is some accidental soulmates energy. their first time is slow and thorough after falling asleep curled together on top of hob’s covers and waking up in the blue hours before dawn
ok basically just my favorite thing is dreamling finding one another in very unlikely circumstances and having a Connection asdjfjf

Dessert
Oh my god... it that 1.2 seconds of Ferdie getting felt up in Silo that can fuel an entire Dreamling fic?! It is? It is!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rated: M for pretty clear implications Warnings: None Ao3 link
Dream gave a tiny, unimpressed sigh, his eyes flicking imperiously down toward the square of chocolate cake.
Hob had spent centuries pining after that lordly, impossible-to-please face. And despite his efforts to drag his dignity and self respect into the twenty first century, there was still a small part of his heart (and certainly other places) that leapt to attention at the sight of Dream’s distain.
Still, it seemed a bit harsh for a simple piece of chocolate cake.
“That was not the dessert to which I was referring, Hob,” Dream said, sounding as disappointed as he had when Hob shared the news of his knighthood.
“Well, the cookies are gone,” Hob said defensively, pushing the plate into Dream’s hand. “And this isn’t half bad. ’Bout as good as you can expect from a work party—“
Hob stopped abruptly as Dream’s free hand brushed his arse.
Dream’s other hand set the offending cake aside where it might as well have disappeared into the void at the end of the universe. “I wished for… a different sort of sweetness.”
Hob swallowed hard as Dream’s long fingers more firmly explored the juncture at the top of Hob’s left thigh. Dream’s other hand moved to his right side. Hob glanced around at his coworkers milling around the History Department’s atrium in stupid holiday sweaters and availing themselves of the free food and wine. But he couldn’t keep his eyes off his horny boyfriend for long.
“Dream.” Hob leaned in close and kept his voice down. “Did you learn how to use innuendo?”
Dream scoffed in the lowest, most dignified way a person could possibly scoff. “I am Prince of Stories, Hob. I know how to employ metaphor.”
“Yeah, but you don’t. Not here. Not like that.”
Dream shifted in his seat and pouted. “People’s wishes are… clearer in the Dreaming.” He looked up at Hob in that way he always did when struggling to explain exactly why the little absurdities of the waking world were so absurd. “I may craft stories, but even those things that pass the Gates of Ivory have a clear purpose. The waking world has more rules about what is said and what is not.”
“And you’ve decided to learn the ropes,” said Hob. “Brilliant!”
Dream’s left hand crept around Hob’s backside in what Hob could only assume was retribution for his snark and for underestimating the Prince of Stories. Hob’s breath caught as Dream’s long fingers pressed almost into the crack of his arse. He glanced around again at the lackluster party. It was not nearly crowded or exciting enough for an extended grope by the dessert table to go unnoticed. The front of Hob’s jeans was starting to feel uncomfortably tight. And the smirk that had replaced the imperious expression on Dream’s face said that he’d noticed.
“Perhaps,” said Dream, “with your… instruction… I might learn a great many things about the interactions of waking men.” He gazed up at Hob with a smoldering look which would have been abundantly clear even without the glaringly obvious words and absolutely lascivious tone.
“Yeah,” Hob breathed. “I could teach you a thing or—“
“Robbie! Robbie’s boyfriend!” An exuberant mass of dark hair appeared beside them. A bit of wine sloshed out of a plastic cup and onto Hob’s shoe. “Hello!”
“Hi, Jess,” Hob managed, making a valiant effort to smile in the natural and totally not-intensely-aroused manner appropriate for a work function. He wriggled slightly out of Dream’s grasp. He didn’t know if he should be grateful for the sheer quantities of alcohol academics could put away when they finally got a fucking second to relax. Or if he should be afraid of the tongues that might wag being loosened by it. “This is Morpheus. Morpheus, Jess.”
“Indeed. I hope you are enjoying the festivities,” Dream said, standing. “We are just taking our leave. Ho—Robbie was about to show me to his office. It seems he has left some of his… duties… as an instructor undone.”
“Of course! Holidays are the worst!” Jess rolled her eyes. “Can’t we ever get a break?”
“Never,” Hob said, taking Dream’s hand in a punishing grip, which his lover returned in full. “At least enjoy the food!”
And then he practically marched Dream out of the History building atrium and away from the prying eyes of his colleagues.
“You know I don’t have my own office,” Hob said as they wound through the deserted halls. “Seven other people have the key.”
“Hmm.” Dream looked thoughtful as Hob led him to his office anyway because what else was he going to do with a boyfriend who’d suddenly decided to use his indomitable power of words for such purpose?
When Hob opened his — thankfully empty — shared office, Dream paused in the doorway. Then in a swirl of sand, Dream was suddenly holding a shiny black mechanism.
“What is that?” Hob asked.
“A lock fashioned from the dreams of a master locksmith. No one in waking existence has the key.”
Hob’s breath caught as, in another swirl of sand, a part of the door dissolved into dreamstuff and Dream set the new lock in place and — more sand — reconstructed the barrier. The bolt slid shut with a hard, heavy sound.
And then Hob was being backed into the edge of his desk and there was no mistaking the meaning behind Dream’s questing hands nor the nature of the desert Hob would be serving his love tonight.

So.
I have seen a lot of takes on the 1589 scene about how rude Dream was and that Hob was just trying to make him proud, how dare he walk off like that. Fuck Dream, he should have stayed.
And it bothers me. It makes me itch beneath my skin. Because yes, from Hob’‘s point of view, it was rude. As Neil, Ferdie, and Allen have all said, it’s like your date getting up in the middle of dinner to talk to the other table. To leave the restaurant with someone else.
But may I posit, Hob was rude first. Albeit accidentally. Let me explain.
I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was younger, the research, the going on digs, the seeing the world with new eyes appealed to me. I’m not, obviously. School is hard for me as neurodivergent so it didn’t pan out. But in high school I dated this guy who was a young earth creationist (I didn’t know at the time I started dating him and I was too young and stupid for it be an instant deal breaker), anyway. We’re walking home and he tells me all archaeologists are wrong because there is no way humans have been around for 13000+ years, because the world simply wasn’t that old. It crushed me. How could someone say that? Did he know I wanted to be an archaeologist? Not until that moment when I told him. But it hurt. A lot. Because I cared for him.
Now back to Hob and Dream in 1589. Hob isn’t just talking up a good game. He’s telling Dream that he has everything he’s ever wanted. Land and a title. A wife and child, and perhaps about to learn he’ll be father again. He feels safe and happy and content. There is nothing more he could possibly wish for. Or rather, dream of.
And here is Morpheus king of Dreams and stories. And he’s just listened to Hob tell him he’s not needed, he’s not wanted. No use for you. I have almost everything I require and I’m about to get the last thing I need, your approval. Isn’t it grand? Aren’t you happy for me? Hob is practically shoving in Dream’s face that that happy life, the one Dream once had with Calliope and Orpheus which is now gone.
And then Dream hears his name from a struggling poet and playwright. Shakespeare wants to live on in people’s dreams. He wants to inspire people to dream. And then to hear Hob disparage him, Dream immediately pegs this man as someone who needs him as the Lord of Stories. And so he leaves Hob content with his table of food, because Hob’s words stung. Hob didn’t know who he was talking to, not exactly, but he at least should have recognized that Dream was feeling uncomfortable with where the conversation was going, but Hob is too wrapped up in his own achievements to notice Dream trying to change the subject and then leaving when all else fails.
So to use the date metaphor Hob thinks the date is going well, talking up all his accomplishments and how great he is. And Dream is thinking that this date couldn’t go any worse then if it was planned. This guy isn’t listening to me, or paying attention to me in anyway. And starts looking for a way to escape. And finds it in Will Shakespeare.

7, 13, 14, 20!
From the Fire Emblem Three Houses Ask Game I'm guessing (since you just liked the other one I answered ^_~)
7) Favorite ashen wolf? Ouff, that's mean, making me pick just one, But I think it's gotta be Hapi. Coco is great, don't get me wrong, but her Shady Lady side can be a bit much at times. Plus I vibe with Hapi's clothes slightly more
13) What's one thing you'd change about fe3h? The extra content that got cut where you trade with other countries and saw what got made in different territories was still in game. I know if it were there I'd probably pick something like "make white clouds more route specific so it's not the same thing over and over and over, but.... yeah. I'd put the already made, not utilised content into the game
14) Most emotional moment? In Houses? Er... my first playthrough, I did GD, and I had no idea what I was doing and lucked into recruiting just about everyone. Except Ferdie and Caspar. I had the B rank ready to go with both of them.... at the last weekend before the skip But I'd heard you could recruit people post skip if you were high enough friends with them, so I was hopeful going into the fight with them both...
Yeah. Having to kill the pair of them SUCKED. I think I restarted the Caspar fight like, 6 times, trying to avoid him, or make Byleth or Linhardt go after him in hopes of them persuading him, my poor little knuckle head.
20) Unpopular opinion? About Houses? Er.... You know what, I'll say it. I don't get the Ingrid hate. I think the story justifies where she starts from well enough that I can understand why she thinks like she does. I also think that she does manage to grow as a person, even if she's clunky in the way she says and handles things. But from everything I learn about her life (and granted, I haven't played post skip Lions, so I am missing some context and convos) I can understand where she's coming from, and why she thinks what she does, and why she acts as she does. I also think she gets done dirty by the game seeing as all she wants is to be a knight and serve her country, and I'm pretty sure in most of her supports she ends up popping out kids.
Yes. Ingrid is flawed, and has a lot of room to grow. But that is exactly what she does. She grows as a person and becomes better.
Which is more than can be said of certain other characters... Looking at you HIlda, because as much as I love you, your family OWNs MOTHER FUCKING SLAVES

Scarlet Blaze - Ch 3?
So it said that I was back to a prologue and not ch 3. IDK, I'm just going to keep counting up even if it keeps resetting because that's just easier for me to keep track of.
Anyways, spoilers for Scarlet Blaze under the cut.
Ohh, Edelgard down a different path? Good! I was hoping we'd see characters get to do something different.
Edelgard going against TWSITD this time around? And teaming up with the church? I like where this is going.
LAMO of course Hubert doesn't support it.
Wait "deal with the church," does that mean she's still blaming everything on the church? Ugh.
Wait, we're already leaving the monastery? Do we go back?
Lamo, Edelgard's taking out Thales so soon. Good for her.
NOOOO, not more Jeritza. I thought he was gone, ugh.
Please don't tell me that she's asking for the church's help and then will stab them in the back later? Is it too much to ask for her to learn and expand her views into something with some nuance? Pretty please. I just want Rhea and Edelgard to talk it out. That's all.
So the game's connecting Arval to Tomas? Spicy.
Shez didn't really choose to stay here, Edelgard.
So why did we temp part ways with half the Black Eagles? Only the noble ones? So are they visiting their families or?
BASE CAMP
Wait, the NPC who tells you that these are Hresvelg Woods . . . he says if you wander around them you'll die? Are there like beasts from TWSITD experiments in there? Or is this more "commoners not allowed, mine" sort of thing?
So in the other houses, will I also lose most of the students?
PLOT
Is Cleobulus Cornelia's real name? And is . . . A DUDE??? That is NOT a twist I saw coming.
Though I can see where the Kingdom/Blue Lions might get drawn into this plot now. Cornelia will stir up trouble, so that's why Dimitri and Co will leave. Don't know where that leaves Claude though.
Yo, Caspar's dad is ugly. Linhardt's is alright. Does this mean we're still going to go weirdly momless while doubling down on the dads? Ugh.
I wish we knew how Edelgard convinced Caspar's and Lin's dad to join her. Seems like that'll remain a mystery.
Glad Edelgard's taking out TWSITD instead of working with them this time. Though, what is she going to do after this?
BATTLE
Well, gotta say, can't upset at the idea of beating up Aegir and Thales.
Lin's dad is actually kinda hot. Not gonna lie. But my God am I sick of moms not existing in this game. It's even more stark now that some of the dads are getting upgraded to "sir appearing in this film"
Man, Ferdie got his looks from his mom, hunh. Not that we would know, since we never see any moms.
Hubert's a beast. Dude took down two people before anyone else even took one.
So if Thales can put up magic random walls, why didn't he do that in Houses? I swear, TWSITD get whatever powers they need whenever the plot needs it and then it's gone when it would make sense for them to use it later on.
Oh, cut scene. Lamo, he dodges Edelgard and wiped Shez out. Good for Thales.
STORY
So is this route going to focus on TWSITD? It would be so, so nice to finally see Edelgard focus and take down them. She deserves it.
The rest of the Black Eagles are here.
Glad to see Ferdinand actually, you know, mention what's going on with his father.
Do we get to beat up Bernie's father now?
Petra MVP. Alright. I can get behind that.
Wow, Hubert already mastered his class. Nice. Does that mean I can upgrade to the next one?
So she's planning something something in two years? Oh, no, no, noooooo. Not this shit again. A 5 year war? This isn't going to be CF 2.0, is it?
Also, how the hell can Edelgard predict how long a war is going to take? Did she visit a palm reader or something? LAMO, you can't predict that shit, Fire Emblem writers. Lol.
Lin's dad is like a mid-tier DILF. Like, Jeralt level. But nothing like Seteth, Rodrigue, or Lambert. Caspar's dad is fugly though.
Oh, the infamous Count Varley. And yet another dad with no moms in sight.
Where's Hubert's dad, did he kill him? OMG HE DID! 🤣
Wait, why is she restoring the church? Doesn't she want to lessen the teaching of the Church of Serios?
Yuck, she's promoting Bernie's dad.
Love how Shez is like "no more nobles and commoners, hunh?" Like, sorry my man, but even in our supposed enlightened, modern societies, we still got nobles and commoners except now we just call them CEOs and wage slaves.
Oh, so the school phase is really over so soon. Probably for the best. I'm glad these routes changed quicker since I'm doing them all at once.
Whhhhyyy is she offering him a top post in her military? What did Shez do to earn that? This is a do-do bird who tries to get stronger by jumping off cliffs high enough to kill him.
Sounds like Hubert is crushing on Shez, since he insisted on this lol.

Scarlet Blaze Liveblog: Chapter 6
So I was actually gonna make myself a PB&J sandwich before this and both the peanut butter and the jelly were hella expired. Feels like an omen.
As per usual spoilers are under the cut. And in Tumblr woes, turns out my tag bundles plugin for Xkit doesn't work for the beta post editor anymore, which means I had to just remember the tags I use for this thing. Super lame. I swear it was working last time, but they've definitely updated the post editor since then so I guess that messed it up again.
Explore Stuff
I know I said I was going to try and remain positive but like… Weird call to have Petra be like… protective… of the guy who murdered her dad… That was certainly… a choice
Ashe is literally here because Dimitri told him to prioritize his life over his loyalty JFC Dimitri you are too sweet for this world. Also Ashe is angsty because he doesn’t know what he’s fighting for now. Interesting
Dorothea… we “helped Ashe see the error of his ways”?????
I’m really starting to dislike her. I actually really didn’t mind her in Houses but between her endless bellyaching as a recruit and this line, and I’m starting to dislike her
Wait, Manuela was in charge of the deer at some point in this timeline???
This makes her “I must protect my precious students uwu” bullshit from AG even more bullshit. You had! Classes! Other than the Eagles! What about THOSE students!
More Insurrection stuff. I guess we now have confirmation that the insurrection happened as a direct result of Ionius wiping out Hrym
“Sorry, did you just threaten to make an effort?” lmaooooooo RIP to Lin
“Psst! You may be aware of this already, but the Bert can be cruel”
*looks back at all my interactions with Hubert*
Don’t know what gave you that impression, Hapi
“Count Glucester prizes his people above all, and we created a situation where he wanted to fight.” I mean. Yeah. We’re like. Trying to conquer his homeland. People uh, people don’t tend to like that very much… Doesn’t usually lead to a lot of great outcomes for the people you conquer.
Apparently I just randomly learned how to make Peach Sorbet??? Not sure what triggered that, but ok
My god my switch HATES this game it’s running like a freaking airplane
I find it hilarious that Edelgard is apparently bad at running a street stall but Hubert is okay at it lmao
I guess threatening murder would encourage people to buy more
I’m about to go grab an ice pack from the fridge and hold it on the back of this thing. This is ridiculous. I JUST cleaned the fans, it can't be the dust! I literally played like 40 straight hours of FOMT and it was fine!
Ferdie Expedition. Let’s go for a lovely mountain date.
Don’t get to stare at his face :(
Weird how much of an Empire fanboy he’s become in this timeline, considering he’s like… yo fuck the Empire in canon
Oh my god you can “restore” weapons you’ve fully forged and it literally just… takes away all your upgrades for no benefit???? WHY???? Luckily I saved the game before it stole my TWENTY FUCKING AREADBHAR FORGES JFC
Like ok my best guess is that it’s so you can reset after you upgrade the forge, since I believe after a few upgrades then forging your weapons will give you more durability and might per forge, but it’s not retroactive? But like? This is just mechanically stupid. Honestly. Just make it retroactive or don’t vary the amount you gain for forging??? What a fucking slap in the face to fully forge a weapon (which takes dozens if not HUNDREDS of rare resources) only to be told “lol go fuck yourself actually redo it”
YOU DON’T EVEN GET THE UMBRAL STEEL YOU WASTED ON FORGING BACK!
Support Conversations
Hubert/Linhardt C - Wait Lin and Hubert are talking about how interesting Shez’s powers are??? Didn’t Lin have like? An entire fucking support where he was like “your powers are not interesting to me”???
“My method of ‘hooking’ would complicate our relationship with so valued an ally” Hubert is a murderer lol
“Why don’t you try sweet talking with tea instead” pretty sure that’s Ferdie’s MO
Why. Why does this feel like Edelshade. “The only option left is aggressive persuasion, driven home at the point of an axe, let’s say” … hmmm who is the ONLY eagle to canonically have a preference for axes…
Hubert is even like “who are you talking about how dare you” and Lin is like “haha oh no one does this bug you? I bet it bugs you.”
AND THAT’S THEIR ONLY SUPPORT LMFAO
Linhardt/Ferdie C - Lin: “I’m not drawing I’m just drawing” o…kay?
Linhardt can draw apparently
Lin: It’s important to be accurate when doing research, not artistic. Ferdie: *confused Ferdie noises*
Why do I get the sense that Lin is sick of the BE’s shit
I find it weird that he only has C supports with both Hubert AND Ferdie?
Dorothea/Monica C - Anyone else get the vibe that someone on the dev team realized Dorothea’s JP VA could sing so they crammed a bunch of random singing in? I do. I get that vibe
Why is the nobility fighting over tickets to see an opera. Seems like the kind of thing nobility should be able to get into super easy while the pleb masses fight for tickets in the nosebleeds
“A lot happened and now I’m here” wait Dorothea has motivation to be here aside from just “went to school with Edelgard for a month”??? Are we ever gonna???? Talk about what that is, or???
Shez/Bernadetta B - Oh my eardrums are already broken it’s only the first textbox
Anna is a drug dealer lmao
Shez/Ferdie B - Ferdie is horrifically depressed, got it. That explains a lot
Side note, I find it very interesting that Ashe doesn’t have supports with ANY of the BE, despite being recruitable. Lorenz at least had supports with Annette, Raphael had supports with Ashe and Felix, Ignatz could talk to Sylvain and Annette, and Marianne could talk to Ingrid. Bernie gets to talk to Dimitri, Petra gets to talk to Dedue, and Dorothea gets to talk to Flayn as well. Only Lin can’t talk to any of the BL exclusive characters.
Side-side note, but I kind of want to count which student has the fewest support conversations. Linhardt strikes me as having not that many compared to the BL or the other BE. Four of his support lines only have one conversation, and two of those terminate at C support.
Side Battles
I’m pretty sure the explore points are exactly the same as AG. Lame
Dorothea: “It fills my heart to see my friends do such great things” you mean. Murder. Like. The murder we’re doing right now? Alright…
Oh Leonie is here I guess
MOMMY JUDITH!!!
So I know now that Judith is not playable, which is bullshit. Clearly she’s got a fully rigged and animated model if she can appear like an enemy like this. How hard was it to just make her playable???
Main Chapter Battle
I’m rewarding myself with popcorn after this, to make up for the PB&J disappointment
“The fewer casualties the better” know what results in the least casualties? Not… not starting a war. That really keeps the war casualties down
“When in doubt, take ‘em out!” oh Caspar, you lovable himbo
Oh look Balthus, Ignatz, and Lorenz are our recruits this time
Balthus is still dead to me for not having a support convo with Dimitri. The gay subtext was right there, ripe for the taking… At least he had a line fantasizing about a sweaty grapple between Holst and Dimitri that one time
Oh my god how many hints are you going to give me to go do that side mission
AND IT DIDN’T EVEN MATTER BECAUSE I DIDN’T DO IT FAST ENOUGH ASDFGHJKL
Ignatz: I will fight you until the end!!!
Yeah about that… *Yoink*
So what does the auto battle button do
I mean I’m not going to test it but does that mean I wouldn’t have to play this game anymore?
That sounded really pessimistic. But ok look, I’m not using the merc whistles even though this is NG+ because a horrible little gremlin part of me wants to S rank all the battles ever. This game has way too many side missions.
Petra: Stealing is evil!!!
Also Petra: Canonically prefers the thief class in this game
Someone on this team wasn’t thinking when they wrote that one, huh lmao
Edelgard: Count Gloucester was on our side once! He might surrender!
Did you??? Did you miss the WHOLE part of this chapter where that was a trick to catch you off guard??? Why the fuck would he surrender now??? When he intentionally tricked you before by pretending to side with you just to fuck you over???
I mean he’s going to because of course he is, but if anyone in the deer had an actual spine or coherent adherence to past plot events or motivation, then he definitely wouldn’t!
Yep I was right. Why do none of the deer have a spine lol it’s actually getting kind of comical
After Battle Stuff
What is with this Daddy Gloucester whitewashing. That guy was one heck of a bastard in the original Houses, but between this and Lorenz’s paralogue they’re just like “look at how awesome and wonderful and totally not responsible for anything bad ever he is” <3 and I am not here for it
I guess they took all of his evil and gave it to Rufus
Oh I got Thrysus. I didn’t get Thrysus in AG. Bullshiiiiiiiiiiit
Guessing it’s because Lorenz is the head of his house now in this route. But still.
Apparently Lorenz and Lorenz Daddy are just too valuable to replace and Shez has dialogue options about that for some reason
RETORT SARCASTICALLY!!! GET EM SHEZ
Hubert liked that lmao
“Oh right. I forgot that only mercs are replaceable” FUCKING GET ‘EM SHEZ
Wow Edelgard is real pissy about that
“That’s just the way of things in Fodlan! but I intend to change this” Ah, yes, you’re doing a great job of changing that by… doing nothing about it right now and treating mercs as replaceable. Truly a 4D chess strategy Edelgard
I’m 100% convinced that the Alliance has only held together this long because they faced absolutely 0 threat from anything ever. Like honestly we’ve been at war for fifteen seconds and the entire power structure of this place has completely fallen apart
I mean really it’s actually pathetic. They’re like those fainting goats
https://youtu.be/_JF0Jys5ITc?t=10
^The Alliance literally the second any external threat that isn’t Almyra occurs^
Seriously, how long have these guys been a country? Like 300 years right? You’re telling me they’re literally older than America and in that time they have developed exactly zero sense of national pride or ownership for their lands, and most of them are just completely cool going along with whatever the Empire does to them? Just like? “Yeah, conquer me daddy~ My lands are fertile and my people are (variably) willing participants ;)”
I’m just saying this is like the dead fish equivalent of international relations. Just lie back and let Adrestia do whatever they want to you, I guess
EVEN THE DEER WHO ARE LEFT ARE LIKE “yeah we’re here but if this goes bad we’re out lol”
Except Hilda. Hilda is cool
EVEN ORDELIA??? “Yeah, the Empire experimented on my children and basically condemned my only surviving daughter to die, but like we’d be cool siding with them I guess” like excuse me what???
Like I know everyone has a spine made out of jelly in 3H but at least there everyone had a jelly spine so it didn’t stick out so much
It’s a weird contrast from the BL who are (almost) all like “YOU CAN HAVE MY HOME OVER MY COLD DEAD FUCKING BODY!”
AKA the normal human response when you’ve been an independent nation for several centuries and an external power comes in and says “mine ;)”
And the only two Lions to defect are the two who have zero responsibility over people or land, and one of which apparently only surrendered because Dimitri told him not to die for him. The other one is Mercedes who I haven’t gotten yet but presumably it’s about her serial killer brother this time. Oh and neither of them have any family in the Kingdom to protect (since Jeritza is in the Empire and Lonato defected to the Empire like the little traitor bitch he is)
Ok this liveblog got real shady for a second, I’m putting the umbrellas down now
Wait Byleth is here too??? I thought Byleth was in the Kingdom????????????????? How did you get here?????
“Remaining in the Kingdom was no longer an option???” Why???
OH WE JUST AREN’T GOING TO BE EXPLAINING THAT ONE I GUESS
I’m guessing it has something to do with Jeralt’s unexplained and unaddressed Rhea issues. Not sure why that would be though, considering Rhea NEVER FUCKING DOES ANYTHING IN THIS GAME
Fortalices and palisades… gonna have to google that one later, Hubert
Ok so it’s a baby fort and a fence. Dunno why we had to get all fancy here
I’m sure there’s already at least one Medieval history buff in my inbox going WELL ACKSHUALLY about that last bullet lmao
I also didn’t make popcorn because it’s like 4 am and I’m too lazy to melt butter :(

what were the unfinished ideas from 3 hopes you most wish they would have fleshed out?
Oh boy, I don't even know where to start.
Well, I should probably state right at the beginning that I didn't know anything about this game beside the very first trailer. I also never interacted with anyone from the fandom and went into the game completely blind.
So the only thing I knew was that Three Hopes would be some kind of alternate timeline. What I hoped and kind of expected from the game was more information on things that were not fully elaborated in Three Houses.
I'll contrinue my thoughts under the cut because, you know, spoilers.
In particular I hoped that we would learn more about Agartha, Almyra and the Nabateans. And that we get some sort of "Golden Route" where all three lords and their comrades team up and fight the true evil in Fódlan together - which are the Slitherers who infiltrated all sorts of political or otherwise important ranks and corrupted the people around them, turned them against each other and spread lies. The true villain in Fódlan is not Rhea/the church (albeit I'm the very first to admit that Rhea is seriously messed up from all the trauma she and her people had to endure during the last centuries).
Anyway, those were my wishes. But nope, we just got a slightly different spin on Edelgard's stupid war again.
About what I was disappointed in:
In general:
I was kinda baffled by Count Varley's characterization tbh. From what we learned about him in Three Houses, I had imagined him as a stern, unrelenting patriarch who keeps his daughter down and tries to force her into the role of a submissive wife for a high-ranking nobleman. Not as an even bigger bag of nerves than his daughter. I got massive Jerry Smith vibes from the guy. lol
What the hell was wrong with Sothis?? Since when does she view Byleth as just her vessel and forces her power upon him/her? Why is she acting so out of character???
Who exactly was Epimenides and what/where is Zahras? How did he incarnate his soul and powers?
On a similar note: It was never fully explained who or what Shez was, right? Apparently he/she is a vessel for Epimenides' consciousness and powers, but how did that happen? Was Shez used in Agarthan experiments? Who were Shez's birth parents? Who was his/her adoptive mother???
No matter if you recruit Byleth and kill Epimenides or don't recruit Byleth and ultimately kill him/her, the outcome is really boring and anticlimatic and doesn't really affect the rest of the storyline. Huge disappointment. :(
Scarlet Blaze: We didn't really learn anything new about the Agarthans and never truly got rid of them either. Edelgard continues her war against the Kingdom and the Church despite knowing the Slitherers are still out there, causing a mess.
Edelgard started a war and wanted to rebuild society from the ground up, abolish nobility, crests, get rid off the established religion to replace it with a church that is only a mouthpiece for her propaganda pretty much.
She also wants to give all people equal opportunities to climb the ranks if they just work hard enough. Sure sounds nice in theory, BUT SHE DOESN'T EVEN LAY THE GROUNDWORK FOR THAT TO WORK IN HER OWN DAMN COUNTRY! She wants all people to be equal and give power to the commoners without providing them with better living conditions and adequate education first!! When I read her A-support with Ferdie I was shocked. How did she imagine this to go? Imagine giving power to a person who can't read or write or knows anything about what goes on outside their tiny village. Like, WHAT?!?
Seriously, without Ferdinand and Hubert Edelgard would be completely LOST.
Her route in Three Houses was incredibly flawed already, but this here is outright dumb. I felt so bad for every single one of my actions...
*cough* but I digress.
Golden Wildfire:
I expected most of this route and was let down the worst. It was all over the place. I hoped for Almyran lore, insights in Claude's childhood and family etc.
But then this Shahid guy appears twice and then just dies. Like, seriously! When he fell off that cliff I thought, surely this was a fake-out and he'd show up again later. But nope. I felt really baited by this whole Almyran subplot.
What I also found incredibly ironic was how they constantly tried to push the message that the Almyrans are just misunderstood and aren't as vile as the people in Fódlan view them.
But hey, guess what: Not only does their king not give a shit about what his stupid Shahid does, he doesn't even seem to know what is going on in general, seeing that Nader can just make him sign random papers. Like, WHAT?!?²
Also, Shahid calls the people from Fódlan barbarians, but it is HIS people who invade a foreign country and plunder and destroy everything in their way. And it's not like they're a poor and starved country like Sreng. No, they have plentiful food and treasures in their homeland. They just do all those invasions for fun, I guess??
It is also directly confirmed several times in the game that Claude and Nader actively have to stop the Almyran troops from plundering the Kingdom! Can you imagine that? Claude's dream of opening borders to other nations might sound great on paper, but it is an incredibly naive thought that it would just work out like that when one nation is so aggressive. Fódlan would be a wasteland in no time if they just let the Almyrans in!
Speaking of Claude: He was my favourite of the three lords in Three Houses, but now he's dead to me. They butchered his character big time. In Three Houses he was always wary of the Church (and for good reason!). But his curiosity drove him to find out what REALLY happened in the past. Who the Ten Elites and Nemesis really were. What the Heroes' Relics and Crest Stones really are. He was shocked by the revelation. And then he used this new knowledge to set an end to Agartha and Nemesis, the real threats!
In Three Hopes everything was just: "RhEa BaD bEcAuSe LoNg ChUrCh TrAdItIoN bAd!" And then he joins whoever has the upper hand, only to turn on them the first opportunity. I'm really glad Lorenz and the others called him out for leaving Randolph and his troops - their allies - to die. But that didn't happen often enough sadly. I wanted to grab his shoulders and scream at him constantly!
He berates Acheron for being an opportunistic flag in the breeze, but then he does exactly the same thing - just 100 times worse.
During the whole playthrough I had the feeling that nobody really trusted Claude, not even his closest friends. And how could you blame them? He throws valuable allies under the bus and switches allegiances constantly. Who would ever trust a leader like that? You'd always be scared you'd be next if you're not useful to him anymore.
Urgh. I have so much more to say about this hot mess of a route, but I'll stop now. Just know that I was absolutely enraged when I finished Golden Wildfire.
Azure Gleam
Since I hated both Edelgard's and Claude's routes, I was really about to drop the game completely. I'm glad I didn't because I overall really enjoyed Azure Gleam. Still, it had its flaws too.
The biggest letdown to me was, of course, that we didn't really learn anything new about the Nabateans. I was so hopeful because we saw Indech and Macuil in the opening cutscene. But nothing ever came off it. :(
Also, I was really disappointed that nothing became of the whole Hegemon Husk Edelgard thing. I was absolutely sure Thales would transform her into the monster in the second phase of the battle, but nope. It was utterly anticlimatic. :(
Also also, what happened to Hubert and Ferdie? It said they went missing after Thales took control of Edelgard. So I thought they went into hiding and waited for the right time to save her from Thales’ grasp, maybe join the final battle as yellow or even green units. But nope, they were never seen again.
Then I have some questions about the sidequest where you get the Ochain-Shield. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that shield an heirloom of the Aegir family in Three Houses? Why is suddenly long-lost now and shows up in Indech's workshop after hundreds of years?
Another thing that I found kind of confusing was Yuri's and Seteth's support. In Three Houses I always assumed that the old man who saved Yuri's life and gave him the crest was a decendant of Aubin. But apparently it was Aubin himself??? That raises many questions: Why is Aubin the only Nabatean who was old? Seiros is probably the oldest living Nabatean and she still looks like she's in her prime. So why did Aubin age so much compared to the rest of their people? Also, Yuri said the old man died of natural causes. What happened to his body then? If he really was Aubin himself the Agarthans must have found and taken his bones and crest stone and turned it into the Fetters of Dromi. How and when did that happen? If that really was the case, the Fetters of Dromi can only be ~10-15 years old. How does Yuri know about this "relic" so much then?
Oh well, I guess I'm overthinking. I'm just starved for Nabatean lore. ;__;
______________________________________________________
Okay, now I guess I should conclude with what I actually liked, huh?
Lorenz. Honestly, without Lorenz, Golden Wildfire and Scarlet Blaze would have been an even worse experience. Lorenz, to me, is really the hero of those two routes. I really, really love how he was portrayed. His struggles, his doubts, his convictions. He also had some really great scenes with his father. Definitely a huge plus! He's a great character!
I also liked Felix in this game. I like him as the responsible, mature Duke Fraldarius who still shows his sassy and blunt behaviour too. Never really was a fan of his attitude and tsundere bs in Three Houses, so this was a huge improvement.
All Blue Lions were great! They have by far the best chemistry and closest bonds of all houses. They're supportive of each other and build each other up. And they fully trust each other. I love them so much!
Jeralt (and Rodrigue) don't have to die and are both playable! ;__;
Holst's butt-chin, my beloved (also, ProZD ftw!)
Apart from that I really liked the gameplay. It was fun and rewarding and made you feel badass. lol The expeditions feature is really cool too. And there were a few really great support conversations. <3
Anyway, that concludes my TED talk, I guess lol I want to start a petition to rename this game to “Fire Emblem Warriors: One Hope and Two Dumpster Fires”.

Put the fae in Faerghus
K:- The ocean is beautiful and merciless. Sometimes she is kind and gives many bounties but never forget she can drown you.
Anyway imagine the Faerghus kids
"Do you know why our ancestors called this place Faerghus? It's a reminder and a warning. Here there be fae. And while we grew up learning to make peace with the fair folk, you haven't. Your invasion will fail. But not for the reasons you expect."
(The famines are a result of the deal with the fae being up. Now the pitfalls are hitting)
E:- Okay but talk about faeries fucking invAders up. You can't just leave me there K.
K:-I feel I should research the fae to decide better how they would go about it. But from what I remember there's a lot of different ways. Some tricked into swimming and swimming until drowned. Compelled to wander the woods. Some fall foul of the wild hunt.
E:- yes
K:-Some say Dimitri made a pact with them
Others say there are good reasons the Bladdiyd family rules Faerghus, they are quite faelike themselves, rumor says. Who better to bargain with them.
(Some believe Cornelia to be a swapped queen, others believe her an illusionist. They are right for the wrong reasons)
E:- Or an eternal sleep after eating food that should not have been the re–!!!!
K:-Eating the wrong food and starving
E:- the rumors Would be fueled by Dimitri unhuman like strength!
K:-The empire has lots of iron, but who says the fae stick to the rules of battle engagement? The nobles of Faerghus were once Adrestain, but living and staying in Faerghus meant making nice with the fae.
Which means training. And possibly some amount of family connection.
Which can lead to the line "leave my lands or my godmother will come for you"
No.
"leave my lands before my godmother comes for you"
For all Faerghus is the holy kingdom, it is also the fae kingdom, and therefore extracts a promise from Rhea of protection before she can come in.
The lions looking out for their friends who sided with them
"Careful Ferdie. He may be beautiful, but so is the ocean who will drown you if you forget the dangers."
E:-Mushroom rings!! Don't step in one else you get taken away!
K:-Locals who lead forgers to dangerous forging spots knowing they will get greedy and forge further then they did. It's dangerous of course, as they could blame the locals, but most of the fae are of the opinion that it would not be worth needing to break in new neighbors. Of course there is the odd one that decides otherwise.
Risky business, the fae. But so is invasion. Pick your poison.
E:-Bahaha. I love this so much! Locals turning the tides of the faeries nature on soldiers! This is the faes turf not any humans.
Humans just live here and we like these ones better than you.
K:-A good Lord gives appropriate tribute to the fae. Lords that don't learn that one don't last.
Rufus is on thin ice but he pays tribute. Nervously… He knows the rules, was taught as a prince should be, but oh he has forgotten so much in his jellousy.
"Why did I envy my brother this?" He wonders, tired.- If he could turn back the clock to a point where he had not murdered his brother and didn't have to interact with the fae so much, that would be the true dream life. Not whatever he thought being king would mean. Alas, the folly of youth.
E:-BUT ALAS! Imagine they give him shit for that. Not enough good tribute. Dimitri is a favorite which is good or bad.
K:- it is both
Imagine the Faerghus kids smiling sharply next to ethereally beautifully inhuman fae who also wear sharp smiles.
All done in soft pastels that contrast the shadows the lights make on their faces, and the sharp edges they wear.
E:-Oooh thats some good ass image in there.
K:-Dedue is contrast, solid in the mists, a protector. He does not smile sharply like they do. A contrast does not mean that he does not belong there. Not in their eyes. He belongs, and those who say otherwise regret it.
E:-Ohhh!!Appreciate Dedue!! I...I just really love him!And am devasted I don't have his unit yet.
K:- maybe this year.

I don't usually post much of my writting-- I'm not particularly a writer. Im an artist, i draw lol.
But i liked how i wrote this reply to a roleplay, and thus I'm going to share it. Dont mind if the grammar is poo.
This is an excerpt from an Edelgard x Yandere!Hubert roleplay, so if you do not like such themes, you dont have to read!
《》
The before summary:
Hubert has been making many remarks to ferdinand that he did not want him anywhere near edelgard. Hubert threatened to hurt or even kill ferdinand if he so much as gave a flirtatious look at her. Edelgard told hubert to apologize to ferdinand later that night when she learned of what hubert was going to do. Ferdinand explained to edelgard that even though his life may be at danger, he had to bring edelgard to a place privately to tell her the things hubert said. When he realized hubert overheard them, he asked edelgard to walk him back to his room. When they got to the room edelgard tricked a lurking hubert into showing himself. She made hubert apologize but he refused to apologize without some kind of violence. The two boys agreed if hubert just punched Ferdinand to let his frustration out that he will accept the apology. Not thinking hubert was very physically strong, Ferdie let this happen. Unlike his thoughts, hubert was very strong. He punched ferdinand in the head, making him fall to the ground. Just to add insult to injury, he also kicked ferdinand in the gut as hard as he could. Of course, edelgard wasn't taking ANY of that shit. After she brought ferdinand to Manuela, she dragged hubert to his room and slammed the door shut, leaving him alone in his room. This is where the excerpt starts.
《》
Hubert widened his eyes a bit. He didnt really process what had just happened, but his senses tingled and he knew he did something wrong. He could sense edelgard crying even from in his room. Oddly enough, he knew had he pissed her off at somepoint, that door is locked. Not his, but hers.
He sat on his bed. It was killing him not being next to her. It pulled at his heartstrings. He NEEDED to be next to her.
The emptiness of the room consumed him. As he sat there on his bed, elbows to knees, the dark room ambiance filled his head. He could recall hearing edelgard's concerned voice and the slamming of the door. It played constantly in his mind, reminding him of what he may have done wrong. No, of what he did right. He knew he was in his place to attack ferdinand. He had only a few simple rules and he had broken them. From speaking in private to leading Edelgard to his room. Had he not interviened, who knows what else could have happened? He was so glad that they just so happened to cross his path. Edelgard should be glad to have such a retainer as him. He truely could not understand what had gone wrong. Perhaps it was that he showed a bit of his true nature?
Mayhaps Edelgard did not like what Hubert's true intentions were. He cannot shelter Edelgard from the world, and he understands that. Hubert, perhaps, should give her space. But he couldn't, he wouldn't! He knows its best and yet he cannot give her even the simpilist of necessities! This only pained him more.

black eagles relationships i like but don’t see talked about enough
Ferdinand and Petra - I adore their supports. You see a lot of Ferdinand’s dorky side with his reading about historic weapons, and you see that he is genuinely curious about Petra’s culture. He admits that he initially didn’t realize how sophisticated Brigidian techniques are and I just adore his vulnerability with her. And then there’s Petra in their A support, admitting she found a second home in Fòdlan, and the two discuss their loneliness? It’s such interesting insight into both characters (especially Ferdie; I’d say these are some of his most well-rounded supports)
Hubert and Dorothea - Dorothea sees right through Hubert’s edgy theatre kid persona. She approaches him like she would any friend right from the beginning and teases him about his love life. She also respects and believes him when he says that unrequited love isn’t his motivation. I would’ve liked a conclusion that wasn’t Dorothea suggesting they marry, but it is really funny that she did that. I love their paired ending too--completely platonic espionage opera! What could be better?
Hubert and Byleth - in my head they have a quirky sitcom where Byleth keeps trying to arrange Edeleth/Ferdibert double dates and Hubert has to attend them. (but seriously, the appeal of Hubert is looking at this man and saying “I’m gonna make you like me”, and then you do it). Outside of my shipping biases, his threats to you are funny as shit considering that he has no power over you and he’s always dying in battle, but once you win his trust he admits that despite looking Blatantly Evil, he truly abhors TWSTID and is already planning their follow-up war. I could easily see him and Byleth co-leading the war in the shadows (and that’s where the dialogue of the aforementioned platonic Huleth workplace comedy takes place). Also my friend who played as m!Byleth told me the “we could be a couplet of birds” line in the A-support still exists regardless of gender. Hubert is demiromantic bi and you CANNOT change my mind
Edelgard and Petra - “Don’t settle for being the bird. Be the arrow instead” Both have a great deal of mutual respect for each other, even though Edelgard is heir to the nation that has kept Petra’s country down for years. You see the same beliefs Petra holds in her supports with Caspar here--that being, “we are not our parents, we can make different choices”. It’s a shame they only have 2 supports. I think it would’ve been cool to see Petra asking Edelgard for Brigidian independence or otherwise talking about how she can achieve her goal.
Edelgard and Linhardt - I actually think people talk about this a bit, but it’s one of my favourite Black Eagles support chains so I have to mention it. This one is the key to understanding that Edelgard’s better world is only possible in her route, when she has the support and opportunity to trust others enough to learn how to listen to them and consider their perspectives. I advise anyone who thinks Edelgard would be a brutal dictator to watch these supports, because they so blatantly contradict that idea? Linhardt initially frustrates her because she knows he’s talented and smart but he doesn’t want to do anything to help the world with that. Characters like Linhardt are usually given an arc in which they overcome an initial selfishness to help others. This is not that. These supports are about Edelgard learning to understand Linhardt and accommodate him. Edelgard agonizes over finding the perfect way to allow him to do his research in a way that suits him--and when she senses his hesitation at her initial plan, she presses him for the problem and reconfigures the idea because she won’t put him in a situation he’s not fully content in. This is astounding character growth (from both of them, but mostly Edelgard). Also the struggle depicted in this chain is just something that spoke to me when I first saw it--”be useful” versus “learn for knowledge’s sake” is pretty much my exact struggle in life 😂 Seeing two of my favourite characters reach a resolution that satisfied both of them was hopeful, to say the least.
Caspar and Ferdinand - What strikes me about their supports is that it compares and contrasts these characters’ ideas of justice against each other. Honestly, the Black Eagles as a whole have takes on morality that are just slightly skewed, and these characters’ arguments about it exemplify it. Caspar just thinks that people who hurt others should be hit right away, head empty no thoughts but j u s t i c e. Ferdinand initially believes that all sense of justice comes from being nobility, and with that comes an obligation to be morally superior. Having Caspar just go “uh yeah, what does nobility have to do with it? I just had to hit that guy” is one way in which Ferdinand’s ideals are challenged. It’s a cool contrast that I think highlights an interesting aspect of the Black Eagles and what they were taught.
Dorothea and Bernie - I love everything about their interaction. If Dorothea were a lesser character, she’d be the mean popular girl who shames Bernie for her messy hair and her anxiety. Instead, Dorothea is patient and Bernie is like “oh no she’s Too Cool for me”. Dorothea also makes note of what Bernie says as she gets too anxious to continue the interaction and aims to comfort her in their next support. We get a good Bernie character moment in their B-support, where she mentions her father ruining her friendship with a commoner boy--and a cathartic moment where Dorothea tells her that her father’s an asshole and that they’re going to be friends anyway. Bernie cries in Dorothea’s arms and AHHHH why didn’t we get MORE of this???
Bernie and Petra - If I could add any support and ending to the game, it would be Bernie/Petra. They have such a good starting point--because of Bernie’s anxiety and Petra being a second language speaker of Fòdlandish, they are prone to miscommunications (which is the general theme of early Bleagles supports). They had a nice 2-support arc where they understand each other a little better--but then there’s the paralogue, where Petra encourages Bernie to come to her homeland with her and Bernie realizes she wants to travel and see amazing things like carnivorous plants. This is fantastic character development for her and is a satisfying conclusion to her arc. I feel like most of Bernie’s endings involve her just reverting back to her hermit self instead of developing a balance between who she was at the beginning and who she’s grown into. I think Petra would offer to let her come to Brigid again, where she helps her navigate a new language and culture. Bernie’s anxiety is still bad but Petra has been in her position and can offer advise and reassurance. Petra is also patient and would give Bernie a safe little house near the carnivorous plants for her to retreat to when overwhelmed. It becomes both of their refuge, with Petra taking time away from her regal duties to spend time with Bernie and her art and her stories. Whether it’s romantic or platonic is up to preference but I low-key ship them 😏

"its fine, really! I'm used to it...” “what you meant you’re used to it??” but yax
After careful and long hours of research, Yakko came to the conclusion that he at least admired Max.
He had only seen Max in person once, but there was just something magnetic about the far-away prince that intrigued and fascinated Yakko. So much so, that for the next month or so, Yakko dove headfirst into studying all he could about Max and his country. He tried to share the fascinating history and details with his younger siblings, but they clearly weren't as into it as he was. That didn't deter him though, he was determined to learn absolutely everything he possibly could- even going into Angelina's old private study for books.
It was weird not having her around to stop any of it. Was this what pure joy and excitement with no downsides was like? If so, Yakko really liked it.
Either way, he was ecstatic when his mother told him she was officially making plans to take him to Disneyland to see Max (and diplomatic stuff, but they both knew that wasn't the main reason). Upon hearing the news, he then hurried and changed his studies entirely into conversations and how to have them.
Upon his and Max's first encounter, Yakko realized he was terrible at conversations, but now Yakko swore he'd be better than good- he'd be a conversation master. He studied examples both fictional and non about advice and how royals interact with each other and conversations one was supposed to hold and he complied his notes into a handy notebook that could fit into his pocket in case he got into a tough spot mid conversation. After all- he'd probably be there for hours and hours- that's a long time to be entertaining.
So he poured himself into his studies for a week or so (time was really alluding his grasp as of late) and before he knew it, it was time for him to go. However, not before a weird reaction from Wakko he wasn't expecting... seriously, if anything, Yakko expected Wakko to be happy for him because that meant he wouldn't have to hear about Disneyland for awhile, but instead he got really accusatory. But his parents assured him that it was nothing and his mother went to comfort him while he prepared for his journey.
"That's a big notebook," Dot said, lurking by his door as he flipped through his notes for what must've been the millionth time this week.
"I have a lot to remember," Yakko said, putting it in his pocket.
"Why do you care so much?" Dot asked. Yakko blinked.
"I just... do? He's the first friend I've had... ever," He said, making her move so he could head out the room.
"But I thought me and Wakko-..." Dot didn't finish her sentence. Yakko stopped.
"Max is just... different. I can't explain it- I'm trying to understand, but he's really just... different. A good different," He tried his best to explain, but he knew it fell short.
"Oh... you must really like him?" Dot asked.
"I guess, yeah," Yakko blushed. "He's just- the coolest person I've ever met, and now that Grandma's gone and I'm free to just- hang out with people, yeah," He scratched the back of his neck, aware of the fact he needed to get going. When Dot didn't respond to that, he pursed his lips.
"Welp- I gotta get going," He gave a quick wave, not waiting for her to return it before getting going- he wanted to spend as much time as possible in Disneyland.
Hurriedly, he rushed down the halls all the way down the grand stairs and out the main doors to the carriage, where his mother was waiting for him.
"Getting something?" Lena teased, as the coachman opened the door for them.
"Just a few notes," Yakko said, following his mother as she entered. She chuckled.
"You don't need to be so nervous, dear. From what I've seen, Max already likes you very much," Lena said soothingly as the carriage started to move.
"I just... I want this to be perfect," Yakko sighed, and leaned against the window of the carriage.
Lena snorted. "You and I have a lot in common," She said, fiddling with the fingers of her gloves.
"The last time I was out of this castle before the incident was- well... the wedding... but before that? I don't think I've ever been out..." The queen looked back as her home grew further and further away. "Outside of parties and suitors I've never really dealt in diplomatic situations. God knows my mother never prepared me for half of the things- I just..." She took a deep breath.
"I want this to go perfectly too... but Scratchnsniff says perfection is an impossible goal and we should aim for something more obtainable," She reminded herself. Yakko glanced at her briefly, before returning to the window.
He wasn't sure what he thought of Scratchnsniff. Dot and his parents all seemed to like him, but he still hadn't opened up to him, even though it had been over a month now. They'd be doing... okay sometimes, but the moment the doctor tried talking about Angelina, Yakko refused to give him the satisfaction. He knew he was there to help but- yeah... That wasn't going to happen any time soon.
"We got a long ride, huh?" Lena chuckled, more nervously this time.
"Yeah..." was all he said. He had a lot on his mind, and he could tell his mother did too. Hopefully, by the time they actually arrived, they'd be able to make sense of everything and enjoy their time in Disneyland- though they'd have to wait and see.
.o0o.
The ride wasn't terrible, but it was rather long and tiresome, so it was easy to say that when they finally arrived they were both relieved.
Both Yakko and Lena were surprised at just how different Disneyland was from Warnerstock just from the windows. Everything was brighter, orderly to the point of confusion (to them anyway), and boy oh boy was it big. The castle itself was the biggest example of this, as it seemed to have countless towers and was impossible to take in all at once. Then again, the royal family was quite large and Disney was known for it's welcoming nature and having guests often, so it didn't really surprise them. It was just a lot to take in at once.
However, they didn't have to take that all in for long, as they were guided inside by a few guards and were taken to the throne room, where the three kings were sitting- a duck on the left, a mouse in the middle, and a very tall dog on the right.
"Angelina? Wow, it really is you! How have ya been?" The Mouse immediately stood upon seeing them enter.
"Mickey! Oh it's been years hasn't it?" Lena chuckled and went and hugged him, which the mouse gladly returned, leaving Yakko and the others very confused.
"Do... you... know him?" Yakko raised an eyebrow.
Lena cleared her throat and stepped back. "Right- yes, I forgot to tell you, Michael here was a suitor of mine back in the day," She explained. "Obviously, it didn't work out, as both of our hearts belonged to another, but it wasn't a completely terrible three days."
"Oh please, I'm Mickey to friends," Mickey said. Lena nodded.
"Right, yes, Mickey," Lena corrected.
"Oh," Yakko nodded slowly.
"You must be Yakko then. It's a pleasure to have you as a guest," Mickey smiled and shook Yakko's hand. The dog king's head perked up.
"It's a pleasure to be here," Yakko replied, hoping his nervousness wasn't showing.
"Prince Yakko?" The dog king stood and walked over. "It's a pleasure to meet you, h'yuk," He laughed as he shook Yakko's hand. "Max has told me about you."
"Oh, you must be Goofy, pleasure to meet you," His nervousness increased tenfold. He couldn't believe he didn't put that together upon seeing him immediately.
"Daaaaaaaaad," Max entered the room, looking at the ground with his face red as a tomato.
"Hiya Max! I was just introducing myself to your friend here," Goofy grinned, still shaking Yakko's hand.
"This is why I don't tell you things," Max muttered to himself. "Can we go?" He asked, grabbing Yakko's arm, freeing him from the handshake.
Mickey nodded. "Of course, we got our own business to deal with, you two have fun," He said, and with that, Max practically dragged Yakko out of the room.
"I am so sorry you had to deal with that," He sighed as the guards closed the door behind them and Max let go of his arm.
"Deal with what?" Yakko tilted his head slightly.
"My Dad- he just- he doesn't know when to stop no matter how many times I talk to him," Max shook his head. "C'mon, I know a good spot to hang out. Watch out for running triplets."
"Running triplets?" Yakko raised an eyebrow.
"Huey, Dewey and Louie like running around without warning- as do Morty and Ferdie and if Daisy's over then so do April, May and June- just keep an ear out for them," Max explained, checking both ways before crossing a hallway.
"Right, right," Yakko nodded, not really understanding how they'd ever be allowed to do that. Then again, not having a tyrannical grandmother around probably let them have a lot more freedom and fun.
The pair went down a few halls, always checking both ways as they went, before they reached a room that Max let him into to reveal that it led to a fairly small room with a few chairs, but outside of that was a large balcony it was clear the dog prince frequented.
"Nice place," Yakko admired the room as Max opened the glass doors for him.
"I come here a lot to clear my head," Max said, closing the door behind him. "And to get away from my family."
Max must've really not liked them, huh...
"Yeah... I could really use a place like this," Yakko admired the craftsmanship of the columns holding up the railing.
"Watch this," Max winked, picking up a stone from a pile of rocks, and throwing it down into the giant pond in the garden bellow, causing a massive splash and ripple.
"Cool," Yakko said.
"It's nothing really," Max blushed again and went to where the rail met the wall and sat on it. "Wanna sit?" He patted the spot next to him.
"Oh- I uh-..." Yakko peered over the edge cautiously. It wasn't too far a fall, but still. It was easy to say it was far enough down to make even the most un-acrophobic person a little nervous.
"Oh, are you afraid of heights? I'm sorry, I-"
"No no no, I can handle it," Yakko swallowed his fear and sat next to him, glad that it was wide enough for him to feel supported. Still, he wrapped his tail around the edge loosely as a precaution.
"So... what do you think?" Max asked. "Of Disneyland, I mean."
"I think it's really... different. Very organized, very..." Yakko thought to himself. "Very homogeneous and large, yeah."
Max snorted. "Homogeneous?"
"It means similar or 'the same'," Yakko cursed himself internally. Max laughed with a little 'hyuk' in there that made Yakko relax, though a familiar fluttering in his stomach returned.
"You're really smart, aren't you?" Max asked.
"Yeah... my grandmother's pride alright," Yakko looked at the garden.
Great, barely five minutes into the conversation and he already broke his number one rule he wrote to himself: Don't bring up Grandma.
"I don't think it's your grandma's fault you're smart. If that was true, then I'd be a lot more wacky like Dad," Max did his best to reassure, which despite all odds did kinda work.
"You keep bringing up how much you don't like your family," Yakko commented. "Why?"
"Why? You've barely even met them- they are just beyond crazy and drive me up the wall with how embarrassing and tiresome they can be," Max crossed his arms.
"I mean- my sibs can be a little crazy at times but I still like them," Yakko said.
"You don't know them," Max sighed, looking out to the garden too. Yakko decided it was probably best he drop the subject for now.
However, after that was a long stretch of silence, and Yakko started to panic as it got longer and longer and he couldn't think of a thing to say. Thankfully though, he remembered the notebook sitting in his pocket and he slowly and carefully took it out and looked for a good conversation starter.
"What is your favorite type of weather?" He asked, quickly slipping it back into his pocket. Max immediately burst into laughter.
"Where'd you think of a question like that?" He asked.
"If you don't like it I can ask a different one," Yakko turned bright red as he flusteredly turned over, pulling out the notebook and flipping through it.
"Do you have a notebook of conversation starters?" Max caught a glimpse.
"Whaaaat? Me??? Pssshhhh," Yakko adamantly denied, but he sighed, knowing he had been caught.
"Yeah... I figured since I majorly screwed up talking like a normal person last time I'd take some notes so the conversation would be far less depressing and not so... trauma centered," He admitted, showing him the notebook.
"Wait- you think you're screwing up?" Max seemed baffled, which confused the Warnerstockian Prince.
"I mean- yeah..? No matter what I do I always end up thinking about the same stupid topic and I dunno... you seem so much more normal than me," Yakko admitted, looking away.
"I feel like I've just been a bumbling dork this whole time," Max admitted too. "You've been really smart and interesting this whole time, with your fancy words and observations about stuff and... yeah," He scratched his neck.
"You think I'm interesting?" Yakko looked at him.
"Yeah man," Max looked at him, though only briefly. "You're... cool."
That made the fluttering increase tenfold.
"You're really cool too," Yakko smiled. Max nodded his head in acknowledgement, looking out to the garden once more.
"You know... I promised I'd give you some sporting pointers when you came by. Perhaps I should 'make good' on that promise," Max said, gesturing to the pile of rocks and other such objects clearly designated for throwing into the pond.
"Okay," Yakko agreed to it, putting the notes back in his pocket, following Max as he went over to the pile.
"The trick is that it's all in the wrist, and if you keep your eyes focused on where you wanna throw it, it does a lot to help it actually go there," Max said, as he picked up a rock and threw it with all his might, and it crashed far into the pond.
"In the wrist, huh?" Yakko nodded and acted like that made sense. He then picked up a rock, and threw it with all his might. However, his might was rather pathetic, and all he managed to do was to crack the tiling around the pond and it shattered into pieces, as Yakko felt the blood drain from his face.
"Max, I-i'm so so so so so so sorry, I-i-" Yakko sputtered out apologies but Max just started laughing and laughing.
"It's okay Yakko. We're royalty, remember? My dad'll just have someone fix it, it's totally cool," He placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "But hey, other than that, that wasn't half bad."
"She'd totally kill me if I did that at home though," Yakko cursed himself.
"She? Who, your mom? Cuz from what I've heard she's a big sap," Max said, confused.
"Not mom, my grandma," Yakko sighed, running his fingers through his hair.
"Your grandma's dead, Yakko. She can't punish you for that. You can break all the tiles you want here, it's cool," Max said, now deeply concerned for his new friend.
"Right- you're absolutely right. I'm sorry," Yakko took a deep breath.
"It's cool... I get that it must be hard moving on from that," Max's hand lingered on Yakko's shoulder a minute before he put it down.
"Yeah..." Yakko sighed as he realized he broke the rule yet again.
"I know you probably don't want to, but if you ever need or want to talk about it, I'm more than happy to listen," Max offered. Yakko smiled a little.
"Thanks... that means a lot more than you probably know," He said. Max smiled too.
"You're a lot cooler than you give yourself credit for, you know?" Max said. "You may not be the best at sports, but you are really good at talking, which is more than I can say."
"You sell yourself short," Yakko disagreed.
"Maybe we both do," Max shrugged, returning to the ledge.
"Yeah... maybe," Yakko said, sitting next to him once more.
As they began to chat more about much lighter and happier topics, a warm spring breeze began to rush by and Yakko began to just... notice things about Max. The way his fluffy and wild hair flowed in the wind, the way his eyes sparkled when he talked about one of his passions, his cute laugh that he always seemed to try and suppress, the way he stuck his hands in his pockets, his smile, the compassion and comradery in his eyes...
Yakko could gaze into those eyes for an eternity.
"It's getting pretty late... isn't it?" Max began to notice the sky beginning to turn a rosey shade of pink as the sun began to set.
"Yeah... I guess that means we have to get going soon, huh?" Yakko tried to play it casually, but he knew he'd miss Max dearly. Max's side glances told him he felt the same.
"Maybe you can write to me? A-and maybe... Maybe I'll convince dad or Uncle Mickey to take me to Warnerstock?" Max scratched the back of his neck, clearly trying to play it cool.
"I'd love that," Yakko smiled, before pondering if using the word "love" was inappropriate. It wasn't like he- well... liked him, or anything... right..?
"Okay," Max smiled back.
They stayed smiling at each other much longer than was normal, though neither really minded.
"Maxy? Yakko?" The voice of Goofy called for them outside the room outside the balcony.
"I need to go," Yakko said. "But... I will write, I promise."
"I believe you," Max nodded. "Though... don't be surprised if my letters are short and my handwriting attrocious- I'm not the best when it comes to any of that stuff," He said, getting down from the rail, offering his hand to "help" Yakko down.
Yakko took it.
"I'm sure it won't be any worse than Wakko's," He said.
"Don't say I didn't warn you," Max chuckled as Yakko got off, still holding his hand.
However, they instantly let go when Goofy entered the room.
"There ya are- you're mom's looking for you. It's gettin' late," Goofy said, opening the glass door.
"Right, yes.. thanks, dad," Max pursed his lips and looked away.
"I'll write, I promise," Yakko said.
"Y-yeah, okay," Max nodded and smiled. "I'll... see you soon."
"See you soon," Yakko nodded, before forcing himself to walk away (a task that was a lot harder than he expected it to be). Goofy then guided him back to the throne room, where his mother was talking with Mickey and Donald (Yakko figured that was who he was), but she stopped when he entered.
"There you are," She smiled as he returned to her side. "Have fun?"
"Yep," He nodded briefly, hoping she didn't expect him to get into detail here and now.
"It's been great catching up, Angelina," Mickey told her.
"I couldn't agree more. And it's been a pleasure meeting you two, Goofy, Donald," She nodded at both of them. "I'm afraid I must get going, but I'd love to meet up again sometime- or possibly take Max off your hands for an afternoon," Lena teased Yakko, causing him to turn red.
"I'm sure he'd love that," Goofy smiled.
"Have a safe trip," Donald said in the scratchiest, most garbled voice Yakko ever heard in his life. It was so incomprehensible he had to actively bury his shock and confusion as to not offend him.
"Thank you," Lena nodded at the three of them. "It's been a pleasure, truly."
"Yeah.. see you," Yakko felt like he had to say goodbye too, but having not just spent the past several hours with them, it felt awkward. Mickey chuckled.
"See you," He said.
With that, Lena and Yakko made their way out of the castle and back into their carriage and began on their way back home.
"So... how was your day?" Lena asked once the carriage began to move.
"It was nice. Max is... cool," Despite his research, cool was still the best word to describe him.
"That's good, he seems like a very nice kid," She nodded in approval. "I wouldn't mind having him over sometime in the future."
"That'd be great," Yakko agreed with enthusiasm that made her laugh.
"Okay, I'll arrange a date," She chuckled.
"What about your day? How was all those meetings?" Yakko asked, not just out of politeness but a genuine curiosity.
"I half expected Mickey not to remember me, so it was a pleasant surprise. And Goofy and Donald are quite the lovely characters too, very strong personalities. I can see why their kingdom works so well," She said with a nod.
"But I know you really don't want to hear about all that. Please, tell me more about Max," Lena said.
Yakko told her all that happened, not glossing over a single detail. She listened with intent, and couldn't help but laugh here and there.
"It sounds like you're rather fond of Max, no?" She said.
"What do you mean?" Yakko blinked. His mother chuckled to herself.
"Oh nothing, I'm sure you'll figure it out on your own in due time," She said.
"Okay..?" Yakko raised an eyebrow, not sure where she was getting at. However, it was clear she wasn't going to be giving any more hints so Yakko dropped it.
Whatever it was, she clearly had perfect faith he'd figure it out sooner or later, so perhaps it was best he focus on other things- like what he was going to write in his letter to Max. There would be so many topics to choose from, and this time he'd have all the time in the world to think of a perfect response. Honestly, he should've started writing letters sooner. It just made so much sense- Yakko could think of the perfect response before sending it away and he could read over Max's responses over and over again. Maybe he could even find a box to store them in. That sounded really nice...
Yakko thought back to his mother's words, and decided it was true.
Yakko was rather fond of his dear friend, Max.

i know i say this literally all the fucking time but i’m so bummed we don’t get to learn shit about ferdie beyond the surface-level stuff
does he even have a mom? i dunno! he never talks about her so who knows! where’d he grow up? i’m assuming in the territory named for his family, but he also mentions being in enbarr as a kid (that’s where he saw dorothea in the fountain). did he travel back and forth a lot? i dunno! why does he call himself the eldest son and legitimate heir to house aegir if he never once mentions having any siblings? i do not know, and are you REALLY sure you want to give me the freedom to answer that question myself

SS Chapter 18 & 19
Whew, felt like it took a long time to reach this next chapter. Life's been busier than usual lately, but here we are.
Spoilers possibly up until Silver Snow Chapter 18 (and other routes around the same time).
Pre-Battle 18
Should I tag this as Verdant Wind spoilers since they basically follow the same plot? Only slightly kidding.
We storming the capital now! Woot! Is Edelgard really going down in one freaking chapter though?
Are they finally going to acknowledge that Byleth's marching to chop down his former student? Because so far he's felt exactly nothing about Edelgard. Not regret, not longing, not horniness, not anger, not vengeance. It's like she's some faceless evil emperor he's never meant before for all the emotional impact their former relationship's had in part 2 so far.
ARE WE GONNA GET RHEA BACK SOON??? Please. I want to see what role she's going to play. There's still so much I don't know about her.
Ok, seeing the map, I don't see Edelgard, but I do see both Hubert and the Death Knight despite defeating them a million times already.
They really shouldn't let us fight the Death Knight so many times if they wanted him to come across intimidating. Even early on, Lysithea with Dark Spikes and Dimitri with a horse killer weapon just melt him. Maybe it's harder on Maddening.
Battle 18
Ugh, I hate split maps. No, Seteth, I don't want to split up.
Hubert sounds so sinister. OMG I love him. He doesn't care - at all - that there were his former classmates.
So Lysithea nuked the Death Knight into another dimension . . . again. Is he dead for real this time? Because it seemed official this time. Finally.
Oh, unique dialogue with Hubert and Ferdinand. The drama. Too bad his Boltings have a 0% hit chance on Ferdinand.
Now time to waste Hubert's second Bolting.
LAMO that Imperial Soldier lady also has Bolting, but Linhardt just waited her out. She did a total of 1 damage to him lol. She's got 5 though and that's annoying, so Petra just took her out.
Having Byleth finish Hubert off since I bet there's more unique dialogue.
Hubert threatening Byleth. Name a more iconic duo.
OMG Byleth' gaunlets broke lamo. Guess someone else will actually finish Hubert.
Wow, Hubert's generic dialogue "not even death will make you consequential." Told that to poor Bernie. Still took an arrow to the face though.
And seems like he's dead-dead this time.
Does he always give you a Goddess Icon when he dies. Because that's funny if he does.
Oh - MVP Petra! She deserves it. She's really catching up to Ferdie and Sylvain. It's just - she never dodges like Ferdinand does, and can't take the punishment Sylvain does.
Post-Battle 18/Pre-Battle 19
WAIT - WAIT - WAIT - WAIT. DEDUE. DEDUE IS HERE? MY BOY? HE'S HERE. WHY IS HE HERE? 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah, wtf is he doing in Enbarr?
Oh - Dedue here's for Edelgard's blood. Nice.
Does this mean I get to use Dedue????
Holy shit, Dedue. He infiltrated Enbarr and gathered intell?
What a champ.
Dedue is low-key the best spy in this game guys. Gathered intel to help an invading army take a castle literally under Edelgard's and Hubert's noses and let's not forget how he broke Dimitri out of prison.
Dedue 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
And Rhea's inside! We get to see Rhea AND Dedue again.
Wait, why is Dedue leaving me? No 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Don't worry Dedue. In another playthrough, I am pampering you and Dimitri and in the next one, you two are getting married pairing up.
I'm guessing we're not going back to Garreg Mach between these battles? Because that would be - eh - make no sense.
Oh, so now we have the "I don't want to kill Edelgard" or "Can we walk the same path as her." Why are those two my only options though? Where's the "fuck yeah" option? It's way more fun to embrace the kill 'em all thing. Except Dimitri and Dedue because my heart
Ok, Caspar, you're forgiven for your CF nonsense calling Edelgard out.
Why is Seteth always lying to me? He keeps saying "I'll leave it in your hands." But then doesn't and yells at me.
Battle 19
Ok. I decided I'm playing these two back-to-back.
Does Verdant Wind do this too? Fight Hubert and the Death Knight, then jump straight to Edelgard, no month in-between?
Because it if it does - it's going to take forever to get to Azure Moon, because, unfortunately, I won't be able to play this game for close to a month after this because of work and other stuff.
Mannnn, I am NOT looking forward to this map with my VW gang. In SS, my Sylvain, Ferdinand, and Petra are all super reliable. And Lysithea can nuke anything. No one in my VW gang is as good as any of those four (though, Claude has gotten more speed lately - thank the stars).
OMG DEDUE IS BACK. HE came, but he's green. WHYYYYY.
So . . . does Dedue have unique battle dialogue with Edelgard? She's all that's left and he's marching towards her. I think I'm going to test this. I'd laugh my butt off if he crit and killed her.
No unique dialogue, but it feels good letting Dedue get a hit on here. I get Dedue could kill her. I could just keep healing him, and she's got no one left. Should I do it guys?
I think I'm going to do it.
I'll let Byleth peck at her with his puny magic damage so I can get that dialogue, and then Dedue's killing Edelgard next round probably.
LAMO Sothis is a false Goddes, but like, she's living in Byleth's head so. We know she's not false.
Oh, well, Edelgard crit Dedue. So I just reset things and my ever reliable Lysithea nuked Edelgard onto another planet, as she does.
Weird she and Lysithea got unique dialogue though.
Ohhh cut scene. Why does Edelgard have a sword though?
Why is Edelgard asking Byleth to kill her? I guess it makes sense. He was her teacher here.
She does know all these people are killing each other because of her, right?
Oh, wow, he just lopped her head off. That's maybe as badass as when Byleth just offed Randolph (or however you say his name). I'm legit impressed the game didn't milk that harder.
Though they did that "I wanted to walk with you line . . ." Which . . . I'll take it. That's not too bad. She did, but what a twisted path she's walking.
I'm a bit conflicted about her death here though. It seemed kind of . . . weird? I expected Edelgard, from the way she talks in CF, to do down fighting. Not pleading to "my teacher" on her knees and panting.
MVP Lysithea. Guess landing that last hit on Edelgard motivated her.
Post-Battle 19
Are we finally gonna see Rhea?
Why did Hubert right us a letter?
Oh, it's about those mage people. And they want revenge. How original. If they're the enemies of all of Fodlan, why did you fight with them? Like why not take them out, then Rhea, who doesn't . . . you know . . . want to destroy the world?
Hubert and Dedue the real MVPs of this route though.
I can't with the name "those who slither in the dark" though. How lame.
Seteth said "kill every last one of them" though.
RHEA. REAH's BACK. 😭😭
And her hair is down! She looks pretty. She looks sickely though.
Oh, we going to learn some stuff now?
I don't remember who Nemesis is. So he's a grave robber. And a genocider. Wonderful. So is that when Seteth's wife died? Or?
I'm guessing we don't get playable Rhea, though I bet someone would've told me already if we did, because she's in such poor shape.
Now we get to kick the people's ass who killed Jeralt?
RHEA IS COMING WITH US
OMG Caspar wants to carry Rhea on his back 😂and then Dorothea has to point out how that might not work for our short king.
No one really mentioned Edelgard and Hubert dying though. Maybe in the monastery?
Guess I'll find out later. Now to go play these exact same maps, but with the Golden Deer!

Random Thot #46,853
I had a health exam for my upcoming new job and put my two weeks in for my current one, so I’m rewarding my neurodivergent ass-brain with this.  Sit tight and enjoy.
46,853: I’m half-convinced that Edelgard is like the Soul Series’ Alexandra sisters and daughter when it comes to her combat ability - or rather, lack thereof.  Unlike Claude, Dimitri, and Byleth, who all explicitly received combat training as children, Edelgard likely did not.  The tools given to her are what likely allow for her to fight at all - heck, they may even do a bit of the fighting for her.  How else can a noodle-armed womanlet like her wear all that armor and heft that axe?
Tumblr media
(Also, how the eff does this dress make clanking armor sounds when she walks in the game despite this dress having like no armor whatsoever)
To begin with, we have in-game factoids of her stat caps being the second highest in the game (390 when combined, with Cyril only beating her by 5 points due to his Aptitude skill), and she even has a magic cap that’s not only on-par with other magically-inclined units (72), but it’s actually better than some of them (Dorothea and Linhardt, who are both dedicated mage types, have caps of 61 and 66, respectively, while Manuela, who tends to get placed in Faith Magic-aligned classes despite being a hybrid unit, has a piddling cap 48).  She even has a quirky but feasible spell list for both magic types (Fire/Bolganone/Luna Lambda/Hades Omega for Reason, and Heal/Nosferatu/Recover/Seraphim for Faith, which is one of her banes, mind you).  I imagine this is the work of the experiments that gave her her version of the Crest of Flames - after all, the 2020 DREAM interview noted that the Hresvelg children were given a more “refined” version of the experiments the Ordelias had.  The refinement isn’t just reflected in-game with caps and magic too; Edelgard is also more robust in terms of health, whereas Lysithea is prone to bouts of weakness and illness.  In-game, she has poor Luck and Strength, and the single lowest HP cap of all the playable units at 48.  And while this one is admittedly conjecture, Edelgard doesn’t hint that her lifespan was drastically cut, as she gets to live a long life in all of her endings.  Even in her Crest-heavy ending with Hanneman or her healthcare-related ending with Manuela don’t mention that she had one or both of her Crests taken out.  Lysithea, on the other hand, is extensively motivated by the fact that she doesn’t have many years left, and it’s only in two endings (Lorenz, Balthus) where she’s able to live fairly long without removing her Crests; The rest either have her dying young or being able to live long only after her Crests are taken out.
Now what of her combat abilities?  Let’s turn to the source of where this silly thot came from.
For the uninitiated, Sophitia Alexandra, a fighter who’s been in the Soul Franchise since its very first game, did not grow up as a dedicated combatant like the other fighters - she was an ordinary baker living in Athens during the late 16th Century when Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire.  When she was bathing in a lake one day, she received a message from Hephaestus himself in that she has a divine destiny to destroy the cursed blade Soul Edge, and he gifts her with a divinely crafted short sword and shield in order to fulfill her mission.  While she does gain training in Athenian combat styles, a lot of her power and capabilities are tied to her weapon set, which are named the Omega Sword and Elk Shield.  Her younger sister Cassandra would follow suit in SoulCalibur II, actually going out of her way to steal the same holy armaments Sophitia used in Soul Edge and SoulCalibur I before getting her own specially empowered set.
Tumblr media
(Sophitia Alexandra)
And Pyrrha, Sophitia’s daughter in SoulCalibur V, takes it to new heights.  Per a data book, the timid, mistreated Pyrrha has absolutely no combat experience, not even in self-defense.  While Sophitia and Cassandra were able to train themselves into formidable soldiers outside of their divine weapons’ influences, this is not true for Pyrrha.  If it were not for the sword and shield Pyrrha wielded (which is the same exact set Sophitia wielded before her passing), her clumsy attacks and timid guard stances would amount to ineffectual, useless flailing.
Tumblr media
(Info about Pyrrha’s fighting style from the SCV data book)
Back to the Egg.  Now it’s made abundantly clear that while Dimitri’s Jean Valjean-levels of raw strength heavily stem from his Crest, he’s also from the land where, in lieu of milk and honey, there’s extreme sports jock training in heavy armor in the dead of night with boulders for weights and weapon mastery.  Dimitri loves to train, and it’s a big aspect of his character.  The tritagonist of his route is also one of his combat trainers, and he’s done that job for three generations’ worth of Faerghus royalty, with his ending hinting that he keeps doing it for one more.  I imagine that even without the Crest of Blaiddyd, Dimitri would still be extremely strong and formidable, he’d just have to actually exert himself a little when saving some poor soul from a runaway cart.
Tumblr media
(Just in case the savior imagery wasn’t clear enough with Dimitri, he even did lift a cart the way eventual saint Jean Valjean did in the book/musical)
Claude is far more in favor of covert combat, and his own Crest is more defensive than offensive, but he’s no slouch either, having had a renowned war general serve as his combat instructor since childhood.  He’s from a kingdom that, much like Faerghus, values the way of the warrior and prides itself on the strength of its people.  His hidden talent, tying to wyvern mastery, is in friggin axes, and he’s also shown to be adept enough with a sword at various points.  Plus there’s the fact that he was abused and mistreated by his Almyran family, complete with his father plopping him on a horse and making the horse ride off with him backwards with no safety net as a form of punishment - Claude tells Hilda that there was a “trick” in how he survived that.  As any horse jockey can attest to, you need raw muscle in every part of your body in order to really ride one, and I imagine that’s doubly true for your local albino wyvern that’s decked out in Ottoman visual puns.  Plus learning how to be crafty and protecting oneself more covertly undoubtedly contributed to his combat abilities too.

(I mean you’d have to be shredded if you can pull off the Parthian shot on a fucking flying dragon.  61 Strength cap my ass.)
Byleth, as we know, grew up as a mercenary to the point of detriment.  There’s no need to go into extensive detail as to how Jeralt sacrificed almost everything else in exchange for contributing to Byleth’s combat abilities without being abusive and cruel, but even if you took away Byleth’s self-insert aspects, they’d likely bear a passing resemblance to Rei Ayanami in terms of behavior and attitude - An intended vessel/Avatar for a divine being from one end; Conditioned for little more than combat from another end.  Kind of a gloomy picture before she starts to express herself better and actually bond with other people meaningfully.
Tumblr media
(At least she’s cute as a button.  Kinda like Rei.)
But where does that leave Edelgard?  It’s a big question mark.  There’s no mention of her growing up with any kind of combat training, unlike the other three.  Heck, if tea time, Crimson Flower, and Heroes quotes are anything to go by, Edelgard grew up living a carefree lifestyle prior to the Insurrection.  She got to stuff her face with sweets and play with teddy bears and both dote and be doted on by her siblings.  Being child number 9 in her current generation, combat training and political studies likely weren’t major priorities for her, and since it’s speculated that Ionius favored her mother, she was likely lavished and spoiled by him.  After all, he expresses grief for her specifically when she inherits the throne from him, not the rest of her siblings.
Tumblr media
(Even the official merchandise notes how childish Edelgard is)
Tumblr media
(This is all after she literally kickstarts her war, by the way).
While there’s varying degrees of elaborate flair that the Lords all wield their weapons with, Edelgard’s regular strikes with an axe feel far less rigid and more informal, and she’ll spin around her axe like it’s some kind of prop.  Her default battle stance isn’t even remotely protective and quite impractical; Dimitri’s stance with a lance is both of these things, while Claude’s arrow-twirling is a real-life exercise that’s done to keep the wrist flexible.  While she does refine her axe skills come Part II, she’ll still do things like throw her massive shield ten feet in the air for a critical hit.
Tumblr media
(Seriously what even is this why is your hand out like that)
There’s even some proof of this: In her study request for axes and heavy armor, Edelgard will even acknowledge that the only reason she can likely keep up and wear heavy armor at all is because of her Crests.  And unlike Dimitri and Claude, who can get lesson plans for their respective Hidden Talents once they’re mastered (Horse riding for Dimitri, axes for Claude), Edelgard doesn’t get a lesson plan for Reason Magic, which is her Hidden Talent, so she likely didn’t get any kind of formal education surrounding magic either.
Tumblr media
(She has a similar quote in Heroes that’s even more explicit about this.)
The closest hint we get in Edelgard maybe having a hint of training as a child is in her Supports with Ferdinand, and even then, there’s no clear cut hint noting that his failures in beating her were combat-based.  She’s able to one-hit KO him in their B Support, but it’s locked to Part II and at this point she’s been both riding on the power highs of her Crests along with actually taking combat seriously.  She even says that their difference in skill level isn’t that great.
Tumblr media
(Should’ve used Swift Strikes, Ferdie)
What’s more, in addition to all of those enhancements, she not only spends a lot of Part I in a custom set of armor that only archaic technology from the Agarthans can make, but they also made her a custom Relic that’s tailor-made to her specifications.  The other Relics as well as the Sacred Weapons, being over a thousand years old, still require their wielders to train in order to wield them properly, and in the case of the Relics, their potential cannot be fully tapped into unless the wielder’s Crest matches the Relic they’re wielding.  There’s also that particular safety issue, per what happens with Sylvain’s brother Miklan.  But this is not the case with Aymr, which is brand new, has a mismatched Crest that doesn’t negatively affect Edelgard, and requires the Agarthan tech-compatible Agarthium to fix, not the Umbral Steel that’s used to fix both the Heroes’ Relics and other Crest Stone weapons like the Vajra-Mushti.  The Aymr’s specific Combat Art even emulates the oft-broken Galeforce skill from Awakening and Fates.  It feels like that Aymr in particular is the Edelgard what Hephaestus’ swords and shields are to the Alexandra family.
Now I don’t really think that an Edelgard who’d be stripped of her Crest of Flames, the Amyr, or her special Flame Emperor armor, would be as hapless as Pyrrha would be without her mother’s sword and shield.  I imagine she likely started to do some kind of formal combat training once the experiments were done with, not just to kickstart her dreams of imperial conquest, but also to protect herself anyway after everything that happened; She’s also the only Hresvelg heiress of her generation left.  There’s also her natural Minor Crest of Seiros to consider.  But if you stripped all that away from her, then her ability to fight probably would come off as useless flailing to the other three more experienced combatants.
All those cakes and that lack of muscle would at least catch up to her, anyway.

@patroklides asked: for ferdie (again):  gardenia, carnation, apple blossom, abatina
Botanical Headcanons
gardenia :   is your muse one to confess romantic feelings early on ,   or to conceal them for long periods of time ?
Between the two, there is definitely more of a leaning towards "early on." There may be (a specific) case where he may choose to steep in his feelings for a little while longer, just to be certain he knows what he's feeling is indeed romantically inclined. That said, Ferdinand more often than not will be the first to confess to someone if he has feelings. His feelings and views on romance is an entirely different headcanon altogether, something best described as him knowing what reality often begets but nonetheless secretly desiring something straight out of books. With that in mind, him wanting to confess early on is rationalized as wanting to know if such a thing would even be possible between him and whoever he fancies. That way he will know if he should drop his feelings (which is an ordeal in itself) or go ahead and take the next step. I know I myself have thoughts on a few of Ferdinand’s A supports outright having romantic implications from his end when it feels unnecessary, and overall how FE tends to handle shoving in romance between m/f characters whenever it can, but nonetheless, it’s enough backing for me that Ferdinand will confess first, and early, and will even be willing to discuss... long term plans.
carnation :   what is your muse’s relationship with their gender ?   how do they express or not express this relationship ?
Ferdinand never questioned his gender growing up. The environment he was raised in simply wasn't one to allow such to begin with, not that it was one that would even introduce the topic of exploring one's gender either. He as assigned male at birth, he was raised as such, and that was it. It wasn’t until he joined the officers academy did he actually meet others who didn’t adhere to their assigned gender at birth. Of course, this naturally surprised him. Not in a malicious way; it’s a fact he never considered before. And as a noble, should he not learn to understand this perspective to broaden his understanding of others and consider alternate perspectives? It took some time as such things naturally do, but in the latter half of his semester at the officers academy and into the first early year of the war did Ferdinand actually reflect upon this particular subject as he is prone to do.
To make a longer story and tangent short, Ferdinand realized he does feel most comfortable with his assigned gender, but he does in turn gain a deeper understanding of how identity doesn’t have to be something along the lines of fitting what you’re told you should be when you know it to be wrong. Now with all that out of the way, in terms of relationship with his gender, Ferdinand isn’t exactly a traditionally masculine nobleman himself. Yes he may be an armor and weapon aficionado, but who says he can’t prefer lighter floral scents because of it? On a similar note, his only concern about his hair being so long is it being seen as a vanity reason; growing it out purposely only to be on trend, not because it’s “feminine” (he is a little vain--of course he has his vices--but he isn’t conceited.)
apple blossom :   how does your muse go about expressing or not expressing their sexuality ?
Ferdinand is comfortably bi, but that said, the expectations of his upbringing have clouded the way he does express his sexuality. Crests are of course, the most important thing the nobility can pass on and should pass on, so naturally this leads to a lot of cis heterosexual prearranged marriages between crest-bearers to keep the blood flowing (as a matter of fact, canonically Ferdinand almost ended up in a prearranged marriage with Bernadetta). Keeping in mind to he is to be the next Duke Aegir--the next prime minster--that it’s expected of him to have a child with his blood who will one day take up his mantle. At this point in time, he could never really acknowledge or face the fact he did like other men outside of some strange feelings amounting to quiet attraction and crushes on a case by case basis. Therefore, he will feel more of a obligation out of these long-standing expectations to seek out lady partners... prior to Edelgard declaring war, of course.
It’s during the war and seeing hints at the society Edelgard wishes to build in Fódlan--one not bound by crests--does he begin to consider he may actually be able to have a man as a partner. For once, he can choose a partner outside of what the noble society would have him pick, and this does include possible non-nobility and trans individuals of course. As previously mentioned, up until this point, he never fully acknowledged he liked other men due to the old system in place, and the obligation the nobility has to bear more children with crests comes before what “idealistic” thoughts he may have. (And as an aside yes I as a NB person acknowledge the heavy cishet focus here, but this is from a perspective of the nobility and what Ferdinand was taught as the “default”).
So now, and such featured in my current portrayal, Ferdinand feels he can be more open about his attraction towards same and other genders. He’s confident about it, of course he is, but more casual about mentioning it since it’s still so new to him to face the fact he doesn’t have to act as if ladies are his only option when it comes to partners.
abatina :   is there anything in life your muse has changed their mind about over time   (   due to becoming more educated on the topic ,   certain experiences  ,   etc .   ) ,    or that they   would   change their mind about under certain circumstances ?
So, so, so much. This is part of the reason why I want to focus so much on CF/empire aligned Ferdinand no matter the route is because he’s able to grow SO MUCH as a person when he’s where he belongs and not forced to stagnate and hold on to his old beliefs when recruited to other houses. A lot of it is absolutely becoming more educated, undergoing certain experiences, and being faced with new perspectives. Ferdinand is the type of person who will genuinely reflect on himself too if a certain facet about him is brought up and challenged, as he too will do the same in return to others.
To name the biggest examples of his changes, Ferdinand’s stance on imperial, and to an extent Fódlan nobility, changes when he naturally learns more of the truth about them, and sees for himself what the crest system does. Of course he still believes that nations need upstanding leaders and those who will be able to bring new ideas to the table, ect. which is in part why he does propose universal education and a more rigorous program to refine the best of the best to fill the void the absence of nobility will leave behind. That said, it’s proof enough he is absolutely willing to let go of the nobility system as long as a far more fair and open one can take its place, and realizes that being born into the upper class does not inherently make one an upstanding individual. And unlike most nobility too, Ferdinand has come to learn the importance of understanding the lower/middle classes, and he does acknowledge that both sides do have misconceptions about the other. And last but not least, it’s being able to interact with Edelgard more and talk to her does he eventually drop his one-sided rivalry with her, and eventually accepts that he cannot be her superior (also that rivalry echoes dangerously close to his father and the previous emperor if you REALLY want to get into the dynamics of the insurrection of his seven). Nonetheless, he still strives to be the one to present opposing points to her, and present ideas she may not consider; who knows who may be the one to learn and see something new. I want to get into so many other examples outside of the big ones that I have talked with you, Briar, in specific but...
Just... look. Look. CF Ferdinand is the Ferdinand who actually grows as a character, learns, betters himself, and becomes someone so unique to me. I mean... hell. Not to name yet another example but we see him steadily go from someone who actually instigates a lot of his spats with Hubert to being completely willing to work with him even if they do still butt heads on occasion, but it’s not out of malice or an unwillingness to simply learn at all. Ferdinand is already someone who does have admirable traits at the start of white clouds despite having obvious flaws an outside perspective can point, but he eventually becomes the best person he knows that he himself can be.
