Progressive Liberalism is a very nice idea but is simply missing the huevos to call for the constitutionally uncontested single-party rule that would be necessary to actually implement it's advertised goals

#one thing u can say for places like singapore is they barely wear that mask #the mask is a formality for PAP rly #note on terminology - PAP being progressive liberals doesnt mean theyre 'good'#its just like how they justify their rule. all representative political parties need some measure of 'progress' for their base #progressive liberalism here meaning roughly appealing to workers on primarily economic issues #doesnt mean theyre great on that but in comparison to most capitalist economies in the area 🤷‍♂️#but id say singapore is probably objectively closer to being socialist in structure than like. sweden #which is again - a low bar #& the class character of PAP isnt proletarian afaict so its rly like a progressive bonapartist regime #'regime' here being used morally neutrally #also obv a lot of historical & geographic contingency that makes singapore not like immediately replicable #also relations to malaysia & malay-chinese communists etc etc #also!#doesnt mean PAP are 'leftist'!#none of these terms are meant in moral terms #bonapartist regimes tend to be ideological pastiches deeply tinted by the personal predisposition of the founder & class forces at the time

Something funny happened. Or maybe is happening?

So me and a fellow aroace friend made a lil fun idea for Valentine's, since as aros, we have no desire to do any task the holiday is meant to be done with someone else, and also that we don't actually have anyone, so we told ourselves to make one for each other, but make it that it was supposed to be from someone that was in love with us for so long and it was supposed to be 'anonymous'.

So there I was last night, writing the word to say in that faux love letter, and after many hours, this is what I came up with:

Dear Mika,

And that's it. That's literally it.

Every time I try to write something romantic, by brain.exe refuses to continue to operate. I can't even ask heart.exe for help because that one is even more so confused!

So I opened my phone and texted her about my letter for her, and guess what? She updated her letter for me, and her response was that her head was hurting from all this fake-assery.

It kinda means something a lil deeper for me than a few laughs, really. It's like, as aromantics, we don't just "not experience romantic attraction", it's also up to the point that we are literally unable to understand and grasp the concept of romance as a whole. Even though we may think we do, when faced a hurdle that evolves actual romance, we're unable to jump through it.

There's only so much faking can do, and deep inside, we can't really say that we understand the alloromantics as much as we do, because that's on a completely different brain wave process.

bob went to college because of his mom. she wanted him to, and he didn't know what he wanted to do w his life so he just went. he was an undecided major until he became a business major just because. shrug. he was also in a co-ed dorm where he met eliza, but they didn't start dating until the year after college. they were friends though

diego was an art history major and he was doing all kinds of odd jobs. he had really good grades, so he got in to college free, and his biggest goal in life was to move to nyc. he hated his small shitty town, he hated his college, he hated everyone there, and so on.

but yes, diego's gay, he was in drag when they met, he was coming home from a bar and just went to the dining hall late at night still in drag whatever he was hungry. and bob was there, he'd been doing an all-nighter, and he hit on him. diego thought it was funny but he also thought bob was hot so. long story short, bob is bisexual, and he had to figure that out in a small town in the early 2000s rip buddy

they started dating for real eventually, and it was a good relationship. for the most part. by this is the fall standards, they're the best couple (the bar is in hell). diego does have some...manic pixie dream boy tendencies though, and he's hot-headed, so they would have arguments, and diego's mood could change at the drop of a hat, but they did love each other.

graduation was getting closer, and diego was trying to convince bob that the city will be great and they don't need to get married or have kids and they'll be young forever. and bob just wasn't budging. they knew the end was approaching long before it came.

they were fighting a lot leading up to the break up, but when it finally was time, it was very quiet. and sad. and defeated. they kissed one more time, and diego packed a suitcase that night and left for the city with barely anything.

now, diego is a successful art critic and knows a lot of artists and influencer types like penny pizzazz and even established celebrities. he's kind of like a socialite. when we reach the tiktok era, i'm sure he'll start doing stuff there and get a following. he gets sad and lonely sometimes.

bob and eliza own a catering company together that does pretty well. their marriage is. well it's bob and eliza. she'll get pregnant w iggy soon.

BIG autistic win today (teacher kept the lights off for the entire lecture while cloudy outside so we could work in glorious soft penumbra without the glare of fluorescents making me feel jittery and stressed) (god it was so so so nice)
