I finally finished the second chapter of this doodle comic!
Basically from a translation machine:
It's called notes, but it's really bullshit time:
(I didn't put any asterisks in the "text" in order to make the picture cleaner and not make this little comic seem too serious)
①WX says that their body "doesn't have any of those really advanced things" and that "the concept is just bionic", which might make you wonder how WX can agree with their own shortcomings when they are always been so confident in their own machine body. This is kind of a guess: WX's comments in the wiki about Wagstaff being "afraid of progress" and "short-sighted", combined with WX's usual machine-worshiping and violent tendencies, such as their comments about Maxwell "He has that kind of power but he doesn't go out and destroy human". So it's an offense to them, but they actually agree that even though they claim to be superior, I guess WX would like to see their bodies more advanced and even more radical.
② Yes, this WX has acceleration circuits installed.
③ Gnome get✓ Do you guys remember the line where WX checks the Gnome
④ "You're not as kind as you look", how should I put this one, because the Wilson I understand is more or less with a little bit of darkness in his mind, he's someone who is full of emotions but often restrains them with reason, he fears and hates the negative impulses and instincts within himself. And this trait I think probably comes from his good nature, his education and survival experiences and the influence of the Shadow Throne. (But honestly after suffering in CONSTANT for so long, it's normal for whoever it is to be a little psychologically unhinged, not to mention the SANITY setting.) And after WX's soulwalking, they easily have some "psychic empathy" with Wilson... ...... Well, how did that happen Wilson?
⑤ Well I know the reasoning of the empathy module episode is weird ...... In fact, it's mainly because when I drew this plot I didn't have a good understanding of the empathy module, and simply thought of it as something like "emotional deficiency", so this episode was supposed to be Wilson saying "why do I still feel emotional ups and downs blabla" and then WX explaining that it's because of "memories of emotional experiences", which would have made a lot more sense.
⑥I guess it's my own personal setting: although the game doesn't make a distinction, I don't think WX as a robot would have a "headache and blurred vision due to lack of sanity". The system will be affected, sure, but the physiology won't necessarily feel it. It's hard to go from luxury to frugality, and since there is no experience in the eternal realm in the human era, WX can't adapt to the negative impacts of sanity reduction at all.
⑦Wilson's curiosity and desire to explore and then equipped with WX's hardware strength is simply ON FIRE. and "adapting to the human body so quickly" this conclusion mainly comes from the last chapter when the two people just transformed the body, Wilson's side is very difficult, while the WX on the contrary, it seems to be very easy. Even when they suddenly possessed internal organs, blood, light weight and so on, there was no adverse reaction. Wilson, who loves to observe, has always had suspicions (sorry however I didn't draw this clue out)
⑧ on the one hand, just learned a shocking secret, excited and energetic Wilson, on the other hand is the history of the exposure, and is also experiencing unprecedented headache WX. so the two temperament is not quite the same as usual.
⑨ "Wiped of most of their human memories" from the game's credits: "Suddenly recalling the memories of his past life, WX-78 soon decides to change his fate on his own."
⑩ Those of you who have fought Shadow creatures online might know that the only way a teammate's Shadow creature will have hatred for you is if you've forcibly attacked them. What happened here is that WX forced an attack on Wilson's Shadow Creature (except that Wilson was still relying on his headache of empirical judgment and didn't realize that his SANITY was too low), and then WX's own shadow creatures that were looming all showed up as well, which is why it became so much more. I don't have a very comprehensive understanding of this mechanic online though, and it doesn't seem to be very rigorous, so that's probably what it is anyway.
I accidentally added a lot more, mainly because of the limited ability to express the drawing ... Hope you enjoy!

Binging both season one and two of Ghost Files while sick, I must say I really appreciate the little changes made to the program for its second season.
For one; we have longer episodes and a more consistent format, both length and presentation wise.
Second; there's a lot more banter/bickering/tomfoolery left in the final cut which is what most of us fans want to see – aka Shane and Ryan throwing jabs at one another like an old married couple.
Third; there's more of the discussions of evidence as well as more of said evidence being presented and met with Shane's skepticism.
Four; there's more of Shane overall. Yes, he had some truly unhinged moments in season one (fighting the ghost of Mr Hull comes to mind), but he gets to truly shine in season two.
Five; longer dual investigation sessions and more time given to the ongoing bits, which only adds to the enjoyment.
Six; "evidence" is not taken for granted on location or in hindsight, but is instead questioned and presented as less concrete.
Seven; even Shane does provide some good discoveries and interactions here and there, and while this was also part of season one, season two expands upon it – this is also coupled with the fact that Ryan questions what he experiences a lot more, instead of taking every little noise as a ghostly gospel truth.
These are all positives and they make the show better, serving as vast improvements to its entertainment value.
As for negatives, the only one I can really think of is how sometimes even the more "compelling" evidence gets watered down. Sometimes something happens that could be interesting or that feels more authentic, but it's kind of torn down by the narrative. I can't quite explain it better than that.
So what would I like to see next? A bit more balance between skepticism and belief, perhaps? Season one was very heavy on the belief in ghosts, while season two feels like it's leaning farther into the skeptic side of things. Which is all fair and good, but an even ground would be nice.
However, it is infinitely entertaining to see Shane and Ryan's views rub off on the other. Ryan is a lot less panicky, and it's lovely seeing him engage with the "ghosts" to a point where we receive some interesting interactions that the old Ryan would have run away from screaming. Ryan antagonizing the ghosts is also a fabulous turn. Shane on the other hand actually sometimes entertaining the idea that something might not have a clean cut explanation is the flip side of this; "it could have been anything, but I'm fairly sure I heard a knock". You can't always explain everything, and even if ghosts are unlikely, who's to say? I like this little twist a lot, as it provides a more genuine feeling of balance between the two.
All in all, as someone who's been following these two ever since their B*zzfeed days (I believe the Isle of Dolls was the first thing of theirs I watched), the contrast is very stark but in the best of ways. Seeing Shane and Ryan grow and evolve as people, and now being allowed to be their more authentic selves under their own company, is a joy. They even convinced me to become a patron, which in my case is saying something! (I literally never join any creator's Patreon because I'm pisspoor.)
Just some thoughts of mine. Feel free to engage in some conversation if you'd like!

On Hidden Agenda And if the Agenda is Really Hidden
Otherwise known as @respectthepetty and I watched episode 11, looked at each other, scratched our heads and pulled the clown car over to the side of the road. Episode 11 was not the traditional "BL Episode of Doom" it usually is in most BLs. Some BLs do purposefully subvert this trope or move the episode of doom to episode 10 instead.
It didn't feel like that was what happened here. So we hopped out of the clown car, whipped out our phones to check our maps and directions, because we were very, very confused. We were so sure we had the show figured out! And...no?
So we decided to backtrack; turn the clown car around and start the trip again from the start. To take this week and re-watch Hidden Agenda from the beginning and figure out what the hell we missed.
We also took a detour into source material territory (aka looked up a summary about the book) which was no help to the current situation, because @respectthepetty discovered that JengPok, Nita's stalker, Puen, and Wave x Trin weren't even in it! The only thing we were able to confirm with it is that it's from Joke's POV, he's unhinged in it, and Zo spends most of it dating Nita.
With all this in mind, I sat down with episode 1 of Hidden Agenda in hopes that I would discover anything that we might have missed. I also have slowly cultivated two theories that as of episode 6 still hold up though I don't know how much weight I want to give the second one (but I also can't let it go).
Before I delve into the theories, I do want to point out a couple things that I have noticed.
Zo is super intense about debate club, NOVA, and the Finland scholarship from episode 1. His coaching of Joke in episode 2 rivals his mother's coaching of him in episode 10. If someone who makes gifs could make a gif set that parallels those two scenes, I would be eternally grateful; it will blow your mind. Zo's issues with disappointing his mom are also there from episode one, but they are super subtle. He doesn't want Kot to tag him in his IG story because his mom might see him at the bar drinking. He mentions in I think either episode 2 or 3 that his mom hasn't visited in a while because she's been busy and the way he says it is so... ugh, he needs a hug.
Zo's trauma from Puen's horrible treatment of him is also evident from episode 1 as well; he is constantly saying that he doesn't want to make anyone uncomfortable, that he's worried he's upsetting people, etc. It's constant. Seriously, someone hug Zo.
Theory 1: Joke did something bad/something bad happened to someone he cared about (probably in high school and appears to have gotten therapy about it based on how he speaks)
Episode 1:
In the flashback to the Freshy Contest, while Joke is scolding(?) Zo, he says, "What you said on that stage won't change a broken system."
Episode 2:
Joke tells Zo, "My tongue gets me in trouble."
When Joke and Zo are debating about hidden agendas in relationships, Joke asks why he should tell someone things when he starts dating them because he should be able to tell things in his own time.
Episode 3:
Joke says "Before you get to know someone, you need to know yourself."
Joke also asks/tells Zo to trust him for the first time.
Joke talks about the Triangular Theory of Love: Passion, Intimacy and Commitment
Joke is pretty worried when Zo crashes his bike and makes Zo ride with him instead.
Joke mentions that he used to go to the restaurant Zo picked out with his dad, back when they used to go out to eat; this suggests a distance between him and his dad.
During dinner, Joke says that "What you see of someone may not be the whole story," and "Stay true to yourself."
In the library, Joke tells Zo "I would never let someone I love face danger alone."
The next day, Zo is sitting outside when Joke finds him and says that Zo wasn't answering his calls. and it's implied he was searching for Zo because he was worried.
Joke invites himself on Zo's trip as if he's afraid if Zo leaves without him, something bad will happen.
Episode 4:
Joke tells Zo he couldn't leave Zo "alone and sad" and "I'll never abandon you"
Joke also says "I only care for those who care for me."
Joke is afraid of the glass bridge but he's also to worried to let Zo go out on the bridge by himself.
After dinner, Joke says "Sometimes people don't show all their cards."
Episode 6:
Joke gifts Zo a sunflower pillow and tells him to look up the meaning, Zo searches up "liveliness sprung from despair."
Joke insists on picking up Zo so Zo doesn't go out in the rain/worried about his health.
Kot doesn't seem to like Joke and extremely overreacts to the way Joke trying to get Zo to eat the food he bought. Now, Joke was maybe a little pushy, but Kot goes off the handle.
When cuddling in bed, Joke says "hugging for 30s releases Oxytocin" and if they hug longer, "it means we feel the same."
Theory 2: Joke is a stalker
Yeah, you read that right. There is ample evidence throughout the first 6 episodes that on first watch, didn't quite ring alarm bells, but on re-watch, are setting off sirens. I kinda had this as a crack theory in the back of my head after episode 8 first aired, but now it's staring me in the face and feels a lot less crack-y
Episode 1:
Joke eavesdrops on Zo recording his podcast
Joke is super intense when speaking to Zo at the studio and manhandles him a little so that Joke can sort of pin him against the wall.
Joke eavesdrops on Zo and friends on the bus and then approaches him after to give advice on Nita
Joke asks Zo if the iced coffee is for Zo and says it's not because "Zo doesn't like coffee."
Joke always seems to be around when Zo is trying to approach Nita.
Joke confesses that he has a crush before singing a song.
When Zo tries to leave the bathroom after getting sick, Joke actively won't let him, grabbing him roughly and holding him in place.
In the flashback to the Freshy Contest, Zo asks Joke why he won't quit if he hates it and Joke says he has his reasons.
At the studio, Joke says "I love you and you love me" in Chinese and proceeds to do what has been touted as an "erotic wedding based tradition" with drinking the Roselle juice.
Episode 2:
Joke starts pushing boundaries with food
Joke and Zo make a deal to help Zo with Nita.
Joke has a fantasy of Zo winning and them kissing.
Joke pushes boundaries with food again
Joke admits to Zo he has a crush on someone.
When Joke and Zo are debating about hidden agendas in relationships, Joke asks why he should tell someone things when he starts dating them because he should be able to tell things in his own time.
Joke ties Zo's shoe
Joke says he's already started helping Zo with Nita, but has he?
Episode 3:
Joke basically milks all the situations with Zo in his favor under the guise of helping Zo with Nita
Joke admits he listens to Zo's podcast because it helps him sleep.
Joke insists on driving Zo home despite Zo's protests.
Joke invites himself on Zo's trip really insistently and hugs Zo excitedly when Zo agrees.
Episode 4:
Joke tells Zo he couldn't leave Zo "alone and sad" and "I'll never abandon you"
Joke also says "I only care for those who care for me."
After dinner, Joke says "Sometimes people don't show all their cards."
Episode 4:
Joke knows how long it's been since Zo changed his profile pic.
After dinner, Joke says "Sometimes people don't show all their cards."
Episode 5:
Joke confronts Zo for trying to avoid him and wanting to forget their kiss. Joke is incredibly aggressive and spills his drink on Zo as a result.
Joke continues to message Zo that Zo is avoiding him and that he's going to come over. Zo says not to. Joke does anyway.
Joke gets himself invited to dinner with Zo and his mom.
Joke makes a move while doing dishes and tells Zo he wants to know how Zo feels.
Joke says "why would you hurt me and tell me to forget?" and "you never care about my feelings."
Joke also says "don't run away from me," and "don't avoid me."
Joke confesses through tongue twister.
Joke remembers that Zo hates stink beans.
Joke tells Zo "I would do anything for you," and "I like you Zo, I want to show you that you like me, too."
Asks Zo to let Joke pursue him.
Episode 6:
Joke gifts Zo a sunflower pillow and tells him to look up the meaning, Zo searches up "liveliness sprung from despair."
Joke insists on picking up Zo so Zo doesn't go out in the rain/worried about his health.
Joke pushes boundaries with food again and then fights with Kot.
Zo tells Joke he needs to respect boundaries.
Joke oversteps boundaries again in at debate club.
Joke pushes Zo again for an answer on his feelings; Joke says he "will always wait" for Zo.
Joke also insists that Zo was into him all along and not Nita.
Joke watches Zo at the debate open house and gets jealous.
Joke wants Zo to stay over; he pushes Zo again for an answer to his feelings. When Zo wants to go shower, Joke grabs his arm and stop him, saying that he won't let Zo run away.
Joke gives Zo the arcade t-shirt and when Zo says he doesn't know the significance, Joke tells Zo to take it off. Joke then takes his own shirt off and refuses to put it back on.
Joke asks to hold Zo and Zo doesn't answer, just rolls over onto his side away from Joke. Joke says "silence means yes" (and in this case it did but OH MY GOD) and proceeds to cuddle Zo.
As I go through my re-watch, I'll add more to both theories but as of episode 6, they both hold up. I can't decide of Joke himself actually did (insert bad thing here) to someone, or just knew someone that (insert bad thing here) happened to. Joke being a stalker wasn't that evident at first, but it is now! At a minimum, Joke is obsessive, posessive and overly clingy.
Also, these theories can both be true! They don't contradict each other in any way. Stay tuned for Part 2, probably... Friday or Saturday.

I think some analysis of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream characterise Ted as a massive hater kind of unfairly. He has a paranoid episode at the mid-point of the story and is paranoid. Incredible.
Like seriously, for real, he describes it as something that passes as a stress period;
I was the only one still sane and whole. Really!* AM had not tampered with my mind. Not at all. I only had to suffer what he visited down on us. All the delusions, all the nightmares, the torments. But those scum, all four of them, they were lined and arrayed against me. If I hadn't had to stand them off all the time, be on my guard against them all the time, I might have found it easier to combat AM. At which point it passed, and I began crying. Oh, Jesus sweet Jesus, if there ever was a Jesus and if there is a God, please please please let us out of here, or kill us.
*(notes about this specific exerpt at the end don't worry)
He feels abandoned, goes on an unhinged hateful betrayed-feeling tyraide in his own head, then remarks on his own beliefs in a way that reads like he is mocking himself, then immediately says his state passes, cries about what he just went through, and starts praying for mercy for all five of them.
That doesn't even touch on the fact he admits he's put through delusions and such. He's really apathetic to everything most of the time (not always!) but it doesn't mean he actively hates the others any more than they all do or don't.
Not to say Hater Ted is an invalid reading or anything at all. I just haven't seen it mentioned at in the popular video essays I've watched - that he isn't JUST pissed off at everyone until has this miraculous change of clarity and heart at the end.
*Text here is from the version of the short story included in the Dark Horse comic, other verions have slightly different wording and are lacking italicisation, but the tone remains the same - for transparency, this version adds the 'Really!' for emphasis, older versions do not have it. One only has the 'my' in 'my mind' in italics, the original version features no italics at all. It varies depending which you follow, but I think all of them can read the same way for the point I am making.
Original text here, I can't add alt text but it is just a screenshot of what I described:

One thing I dislike in season 5 is how the characters are often dumbed down just to fit, for the plot sake. The kids, in particular, seem to reach a point where Eddy can literally come up with any lie or scam (the forever-summer scam, the mole mutants, the booster shot day, the egghead Ed, a new kid Carl) and the kids will immediately buy completely without a question (even Kevin of all people). In earlier seasons, as gullible as the kids could be, they still kept a skepticism degree and were quicker to recognize something as a poorly manufactured scam (at least some of them).
So, of course, all the characters sound so out-of-character in season 5 (except maybe the Kankers)...
yeah i agree to some extent. i'm always hesitant to criticize s5 cuz like, who tf am i? i don't know much about the behind the scenes, etc., etc.. but i agree that it is very different in a lot of ways that stand out. if you view the differences in characterization as intentional, it's kind of interesting.
eddy is absolutely off the rails and is at his most volatile in s5. even his laugh is more villainous lmao. i liked kevin lordi's comment that he seems depressed as hell later on in the series. makes sense to me, i mean we see how he struggles in school, and how he gets treated there. you can't just leave when things get bad, either. i gotta say, i feel like they ramped up the eddy torture p*rn in s5. i might be biased though.
edd is also utterly unhinged. viewing the gradual changes in him as intentional (aka me over analyzing), i see that he's reached PEAK neuroticism. the guy is about to snap and eventually does in bps. frankly, i find him unbearable but it's all character growth in my mind. school is a source of stress for him as well, but for different reasons. also, he and eddy are a lot nastier to each other in this season.
with ed, i'm not really sure what angle to come at it from. if i stick by what i said before, then his over the top oafishness is likely a result of hardcore dissociating. maybe he ALSO really hates school and so his brain just shuts down. literally. you could also theorize that he took one too many bumps on the head (just kidding).
realistically though i think he's the easiest source of comedic relief for what is, after all, a kids' show. perhaps it became a bit of a crutch while they created some really great character driven episodes.
like fistful of ed, too smart for his own ed, cleanliness is next to edness, and, pick an ed. lots of edd focused episodes in s5.
to your specific point, i guess i see what you mean. but i've always wondered why the kids would fall for anything eddy does after like s2 lmao. s5 isn't the first time we learn that the cul-de-sac kids aren't very bright. they do all have moments of skepticism, and yes, especially kevin. in see no ed, he's shown to be borderline paranoid about the eds which is goddamn hilarious to me. but most of the time they'll all be skeptical at first, yet still end up taking the bait and acting shocked.
(by the way: kevin deserved sooooo much worse than what happened in this won't hurt an ed - which was ultimately nothing. eddy ended up being the one getting hurt at the end of the episode.
kevin is ruthless and flat out cruel to eddy. he's the definition of a bully. he's shown to be pretty normal toward everyone else in the neighborhood, including ed and edd when they interact one on one. with eddy, he has this abnormal and unhealthy hatred for the kid. it's really funny.)
in pick an ed, edd says its obvious that 'carl' is just eddy in disguise. eddy looks worried until ed falls for it. to me that implies that eddy thinks the kids are dumb as a bag of hammers. and he was right!
my thing with eddy is, don't hate the player, hate the game. it's hard for me to feel bad for someone who gets "scammed" or pranked over and over. if kevin wanted to, he could be the hero of the cul-de-sac and put an end to the scams by simply sharing his over-abundance of jawbreakers with the eds. but he's a dick, so he doesn't. the kids are also to blame not just for being such easy marks, but for never leaving jawbreakers for the eds when kevin shares with them. eddy's biggest mistake was waiting around long enough after getting paid for them to catch on.
summary: i used to also view s5 as a "dip in quality" until i saw a post where someone argued that the changes could and should be viewed as character growth/development over flanderization. both things can be true! and there are plenty of REALLY good, fun episodes and moments in the season.

Can you elaborate on your comment on Discord that "[TOH characters in general] get a lot of backstory but little connects with their present character"?
*looks at every Hunter fan out there* How do we feel about the fact that this kid was literally raised to kill wild witches and be the Golden Guard but the only fighters in the main cast who are worse than him are the literal child and the illusionist?
Hunter is easily the most obviously egregious one but also the one that actually has a potential magical slide. After all, we don't actually know if Hunter has been alive for sixteen years. He potentially could have been alive for probably only five, thus making it so he has time to be trained and indoctrinated but was also 'old' enough to be easier to handle, left alone, etc. like that. Of course... That doesn't really fix the larger problem with Hunter's backstory versus his present day character, is it?
See, this is how I would breakdown what the theoretical present day concept for each character is that Luz meets versus the backstory version: Eda: Irreverent criminal who is only out for herself and probably would just be committing larger scale crimes for funsies if not for the curse. Backstory: Lovable scamp with a heart of gold who only ever does jokes, nothing actually bad and look at this child she adopted and totally won't threaten with rent later on.
Amity: A driven, goal obsesses girl who will do anything to be the best. Even simply losing the title and not being made to look like a fool is enough to warrant someone needing to die and she bullies the weak for fun and superiority. Backstory: Felt bad for hurting her teammates for personal glory and victory (those same teammates she will tell to eat a dick in that same episode), only bullied Willow for her own sake, frankly would rather just be a little goofball than actually succeed at anything.
Lilith... Okay, frankly it's more that S2 Lilith makes absolutely no sense with S1 Lilith. If they hadn't entirely warped her character, her backstory is actually pitch perfect for her grown up self, even down to being a little silly and caring about her sister. A LITTLE silly mind you.
Golden Guard: Actually fits the backstory as the rage and confidence of youth mixed with too much power and indoctrination make for an incredibly dangerous, close to unhinged Kylo Ren clone who will go from joking to I WILL MURDER YOU! if you don't take him seriously or annoy him.
Hunter: I'm just a widdle silly guy who can't even gut check a girl and force her to give me my staff. I am all for wild magic because maybe it can save my uncle, despite my uncle's problems being caused by wild magic. I will literally never win a fight alone except against Kikimora, the closest to a true, reoccurring gag villain that the series has.
Now yes: A character can grow and change as they get older. It can be a fun joke to have a prim and proper character have been a nightmare as a toddler. But this isn't how TOH portrays these backstory moments commonly. Much of the time, the backstory is meant to effectively be in the place of real moments in a character arc.
Take Amity's moment with Willow. In a normal character arc, this is the chance for the character to prove that they have a good heart and are maybe not as mean as they seem. However, Amity already has done that at least once with confessing to not wanting to see Luz hurt in Adventure in the Elements, if her diary didn't already do this in combination with not holding onto her rage against Luz there in Lost in Language. So they HAVE to put it as a backstory moment or it wouldn't be notable. Except... It would have? Hell, they even try to frame it as a kindness to Willow at the beginning which is a good idea because Amity's first appearance was being cruel to Willow but now that she's changed some but hasn't interacted with Willow since episode 6, she needs to show some kindness to her. But it's ALL kindness because they've already fully transitioned into good girl Amity so rather than feeling like a growth moment, it's to justify what they're doing. To say "Of course her development isn't this rushed because it's not development! It's just the old Amity coming back out."
The moment with the Thorn Vault is similar. A character like Amity SHOULD have a moment where she decides success isn't everything and steps back so as to allow someone else to take the spotlight if it means doing less harm. It's a good idea for a moment in her arc. But again: Amity has already moved past that part of her arc. She hasn't been focused on success or being the best since her SECOND APPEARANCE. And this is her last one in S1 so it goes into the backstory to show that she does understand the consequences of her actions rather than having it be a part of her arc.
Frankly, this stuff is just a part of a different blog I need to make about how Amity episodes are strangely NOT about Amity. She actually doesn't factor into them much so her arc feels bad because even episodes like Lost in Language or Adventure in the Elements only have five minutes of Amity at most.
Meanwhile for someone like Eda or Hunter, it's retcons. Eda needs to be convincingly like Momma Eda so making her actually motherly with King when they first met is a good idea... But it contrasts all they did in S1. Hunter is meant to show the cruelty of Belos but they want him to already be the sad but mad boy by the halfway point of the season (which btw, halfway through S1, Amity was already borrowing an Azura book from Luz showing compromise, kindness and connection, much like Hunter connecting with Amity's fears, almost giving into her speech about kindness and adopting Flapjack. There's a reason I say the shortening did fuck all to these character arcs because they follow the same god damned patterns) so that stuff needs to be in the backstory, like his scout training.
And to me, that is the antithesis of a backstory. Unless the point is that they're different from who they used to be, which it's often not for TOH, it should reinforce what we know about them. How did they get to the point they're at. It's actually one of the only strengths narratively of Them's the Breaks because the final challenge by Terra is a good moment to make Eda start rethinking her long term goals and if she likes the coven system at all.
It would just work way better if her present day character was anti-coven because it pits people against each other and tears the Isles apart instead of just "It makes you way less cooler than me because I can do ALL styles of magic." As such... It's them acknowledging what a good motivation in the setting and plot would have been but recognizing it too late so they have to add it as a retcon.
And you can only get away with that trick so many times before it feels like your story is a house of cards trying to pretend it's made out of stone.

I’m curious, what are your unpopular opinions about tmnt 🔥 and writing 🔥
hi dude!!! im surprised to see you in my askbox and honestly very flattered 😳😳😳😳
for tmnt: while i sometimes come out as someone who dislikes rise, i think it's very fun and enjoyable. it explored new ideas, gave a lot of edge to old characters and created new ones who are in my heart forever (Draxum gets too much hate imo)
but i feel like people give it too much credit. it's not my place to criticize it, but i really think it has some major turn-downs (at least for me). when the show aired, i thought of it as a little silly time, when i can just watch a purely fun show about ninja turtles without plot-heavy storylines like we had in the past. i was also delighted when there wasn't a trace of Leo and Raph conflict we had in every iteration. it was like a breath of fresh air, i was enjoying it. but the pacing changed and it became serious. while i don't think it was too weird, it still felt jarring, i didn't know what the show wanted to be anymore. the second season is a doozy, which is understandable and it's a real shame we didn't get those filler episodes that would flesh out the characters more.
and the rise movie. man. it gets some things just right and some things wrong. and again we get that Leo and Raph fight about being a leader. Leo gets too much attention, both in the show and in the movie. it's really getting on my nerves.
one thing i applaud rise for is giving Mikey that edge people need to see more - his personalities, to be precise. i feel like we kinda forget that Mikey should be a bit insane, and rise, thank god, sees it as an opportunity to show him unhinged a lot of times. not enough, in my opinion, and his character got a little too soft when the movie came out, but the effort was there and i'm really grateful for that. it's why i love 2003 Mikey with all of me - he's fucking bonkers, has no filter, and will cause mayhem just to see something explode. i really hope MM Mikey will be like that, too, thought i don't have high hopes. he still looks fun tho
little side-notes: i hate hair on turtles (ew) and most of rise fandom is toxic (can't go into this bc i'm afraid people will shit on me)
for writing: writing is a chore. like, really. writers say a lot of times that they want to see words on their google docs magically appear without them having to write anything, and i completely agree. as a writer who majorly writes in their second language (thus i have difficulty writing in my native one (don't ask me how that works, i don't know either)) i hate actually writing words. i've been doing this as a hobby for about four years and i still have no idea what my style is and how to not sound like a moron or a ten year old. i look back on my writing and see a child, not an adult who studied english for most of their life. hell, i'm getting my eng major (sort of) and getting ready for international english exams and i still sound like a baby with images in head but no words to describe them. it sucks.
i enjoy storytelling a ton, but no matter how much everyone will say to you "you shouldn't worry too much about words, this is a story only you can tell, if you have a story you should share it!" it doesn't work that way. you need to be able to both feel a story and be able to tell it, and if you can't find the right words that punch people in their hearts, it won't do that well. so maybe some people who are full of imagination and stories to tell simply aren't destined to become writers. this is either a harsh truth or me just being a pessimist, idk
and i think that's it! i dunno if these are unpopular or not but they've been on my mind for a while so yeah. thank you sm for this ask!!!!!!

KinnPorsche ep 13 Rewatch Rambles:
The op always gets me so pumped
OH HOLD ON OH FUCK I NEED TO PAUSE 1 SECOND INTO THE EPISODE BECAUSE I KNOW VEGAS IS ABOUT TO SAY SOMETHING THAT MADE ME HAVE TO PAUSE 5 SECONDS INTO THE EPISODE THE FIRST TIME AROUND BC I NEEDED TO COLLECT MYSELF
I AM NOT READY
SO I'LL JUST BE STARING AT VEGAS AND PETE HOLDING HANDS AND LOOKING SOFT AND PRETTY
Also I wanna know when and how Vegas put the one handcuff back on Pete's wrist I NEED TO KNOW
"Do you know how sexy you are?" WELL VEGAS DO YOU KNOW? BECAUSE AAAAAAAAAA *yeets myself into the sun*
And Vegas' thumb gently stroking Pete's palm?? why is the most unhinged couple also the most sensual and soft one I am going to flip
Vegas honey you're still a freak
The way he looks at Pete, the way he smiles at him... 😭❤️
Omg the "lunch with dad" scene aaaahhh the awkwardness
Also the lack of communication between Kinn and Porsche YET AGAIN
VEGAS COOKING FOR PETE AND HAVING HIS INGREDIENTS PREPPED AND READY TO GO LIKE THE WIFEY THAT HE IS
AND HE LOOKS SO HAPPY WHILE DOING IT 😭❤️ and the food looks sooooo good
Sorry I'll be very annoying about VP in this ep
Homophobic Dad™️ interrupts yet again and Vegas goes straight back to hurt little boy mode (but with a touch of sass this time)
Kinn trying to communicate but being unable to do so without flirting is so on-brand
Side note: Porsche bounces his leg when he's stressed
TALK TO EACH OTHER
Nooooo I can't go through the VP drama again
When Vegas sits down next to Pete and they look at each other you can tell something has changed for both of them. Something has shifted. Holy fuck this hurts
Vegas trying soooo hard not to lose it in front of Pete even though it wouldn't be the first time, the shift in their dynamic and Vegas' fear of vulnerability making him overcompensate with anger and violence, Pete switching from "hopeful" to "just fucking kill me" because all he really wants is to get out of there, with or without Vegas, dead or alive, he's confused, he's overwhelmed, he's hurt, he's ashamed, WILL THIS COUPLE EVER STOP MAKING ME INSANE? NO
Again Tankhun is the only one with at least one braincell
VEGAS' FACE WHEN PETE SAYS "NOT EVEN MY HUMANITY" HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S ABOUT TO PASS OUT HE REALIZED WHAT HE'S DONE AND AS SOON AS PETE STARTS WITH THE SELF-HATE VEGAS IS SCARED OUT OF HIS MIND HE IS SO SCARED TO HURT HIM EVEN MORE SO SCARED TO LOSE HIM
The harder you hold on to something the more it slips away huh
The way Pete gingerly touches Vegas' face one last time before apologizing and knocking him out I AM GOING INSANE
Khun's funeral outfit kinda slays
If I fully believed Pete was dead I'd cry like that too
Porsche hiding behind Kinn's back by climbing him like a tree will never not be funny
This show switches between angst and comedy so effortlessly istg
Speaking of which, back to angst.
"Tell me who did it, I'll handle it right away" oooooh but Pete doesn't want that does he
"Please believe me. I'm asking you" 😭😭😭 basically please stop asking bc I don't know how much longer I can hold it together if I have to keep lying to you
Kim come on wtf did you expect
THE POLAROIDS 😭 they were together for longer than the show made it look like huh?
Kim fucked up but still it hurts to see him cry
And then it cuts to Vegas sitting alone in front of TWO (2) plates with rice and several bowls of toppings
AND THE WHOLE TIME THE BREAKUP SONG IS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND
And Vegas is crying into his rice and Pete is crying into his noodles and I am suddenly obsessed with Pete's hands
PORSCHE! TALK TO KINN YOU IDIOT
Pete looks so good wearing jewelry aaaaa and that shirt (I want it) he's so pretty wtf
"And this is for Pete." Porsche is literally bestie goals I fucking love him
"I was blinded by the adults" newsflash Vegas you're an adult too
"SHOOT ME!" whyyyy does VegasPete have to hurt so fucking much
Pete ugly sobbing into Vegas' shoulder was so fucking raw
Porsche knows Kinn's schedule by heart awww
Kinn "meeting" Porsche's parents and immediately shit-talking Porsche hahahahahah
SAPPY KINN AND FLUSTERED PORSCHE 😭❤️
Oh I almost forgot about the balcony pool scene
I can NOT see this scene the same way ever since I noticed the huge "Deutsche Bank" sign in the background it's too distracting 😂
The way Porsche softly caresses Kinn's face while he sleeps and then gets interrupted by a text from Vegas 😭
Kim is worried 👀
Scumbag uncle is still a scumbag but at least he was telling the truth
Wish we could have explored the Vegas & Porsche vs Kinn & Pete dynamic more tbh u know just for the angst
Someone gotta tune that piano
Not Korn having Porsche believe he's Kinn's cousin for a hot second

An emotional first reaction to Arcane's finale
With an accent on Silco's arc...
*Wipes tears away*
Anyway. When was the last time you sat down to a tv show that punched this hard and respected its villain this deeply? Silco is by far the most interesting character, and he carries the show on his scrawny shoulders.
Compelling if mysterious backstory, overcomes his demons and his traitorous brother in one fell swoop as he gains power. Silco's a zealot who dreams big for everyone. And yet in the end he finally understands why Vander did what he did. Finally has an emotional tie on a personal level that means more to him than the Nation Of Zaun, that big all consuming project that's been driving him from the start.
And yet in a completely masterful twist, Vander chosing his daughters over Zaun means the Status Quo, while Silco choosing his daughter over Zaun means War.
He gets everything he ever wanted. He's a villain who uses all ends to reach his goals and actually gets there, and the creative minds behind Arcane had the guts to make it absolutely irrelevant to his death. That is so wild, honestly. His love is his personal downfall (or more likely, the lack of mental health care in the Lanes is his downfall...) but he's never more human and more like Vander than when he dies...
For the creators to chose to NEVER redeem him, and instead just... humanize him to the very end... To let him say his piece and clear out misunderstandings and also to go knowing all his *fucked up* efforts fucking paid off...
*Silco style slow clap*
Fucking bravo.
Tumblr media
Turns out Silco wasn't lying, not anymore than any of us do from time to time, even to our loved ones. Turns out that he was really worrying, really caring, and that it was really "just the two of them".
There's plenty wrong with Jinx's arc as a villain in the becoming, the whole "hearing voices makes me unhinged and violent" really isn't palatable.. it's an easy cop-out that puts people with IRL mental illnesses in another toxic limelight.
But there's incredible beauty in her being truly embraced by the villain, for the most wholesome family to really be with him. To be fought for as hard by him, as much as Vander did. Vi doesn't want Jinx. She truly wants "Powder", and even if she probably loves her and probably needs the mental help Vi would desire for her "to change" and "become stable", Jinx's toxic, zealot, asshole second dad loves her exactly as she is. Why the fuck would you not chose that side, being in Jinx's boots?
*chokes up for a minute*
Tumblr media
I can't clap my hands hard enough to applaud the team behind Arcane (so I'll use them to write fanfic instead)
How did they manage to break the curse of video game adaptation?
Well, I think it helps that the studio itself retained absolute creative control. For once it's not a film industry giant buying rights and trying to do it's usual "adaptation" cash grab wringer. It's a studio getting another studio to work their (insane) magic and produce the best 9 episodes cinematic we've ever seen.
The vision was theirs, the story was uncompromising and unflinching.
I am not surprised the writing punches this hard. Video game writers know what the fuck they're doing, because they create immersive worlds and storyline in which the players/viewer is directly active. I mean look at other hard gut punches out there like God of War, Wticher 3 or even Jackie's arc in Cyberpunk.
But for them to stick to their guns to the very end... To give us characters this compelling instead of following the cliche route... For them not to betray us, the way so many other storylines do by trying something bold for a hot minute before falling back on tried and true cliches like deflating souflés...
Guys, I'm sorry but even Disney doesn't clap this hard. Arcane came on to the scene and swatted everyone aside. The visuals, the animation style, the music, the cast of character all painted in deep shades of grey, the riveting plot with its series of mirrored pairs going through the same divisive process... Arcane is the show we've all been begging for, but we were asking for it to the wrong people.
Bravo team. None of y'all will ever see this post, but know you're appreciated. You made me scream and choke up and built a whole new condominium in my skull for Silco to live in rent free. Fuck you and bless you, I love you guys.

I actually love the CR3 party, and now that I have some time I'll try to articulate why. Also, At the end I might add a few encouraging words for those of you who are not yet feeling the party. Not my experience this campaign, but trust me I see you:
*spoilers up to cr3 ep3 below*
Imogen I was more on the fence about, but after this episode she's starting to grow on me. At first she seemed a bit bland by comparison but I'm finding her whole thing quite fascinating. It has quite a few interesting ramifications and I want to see how they explore them.
F.C.G. is super cute and I think the comedic duo they form with Ashton is gold. As the rest of the fandom, can't wait for Sam to rip my heart out of my chest with this little robot guy. I think they have a lot of potential for both party bonding and party conflict. Anyways, a treat.
Ashton is just wonderful. I like their dynamic of assertive and we'll adjusted menace to society. His attitude of "have any of you children ever crimed? Would you like some pointers?" They have a shit ton of mystery around them and I can't wait to find out. Also, barbarian Ashton means it's less likely that Taliesin will have his character snatched too soon.
Laudna is super funny to me and I'm having such a blast theorizing about her between Thursdays. I can't wait for Marisha to just destroy all of my headcanons (or maybe validate them, who knows). Her dynamic with Imogen is really sweet and I enjoy watching the cast interact with her (with the whispers and stuff)
Orym is my man. I just love his quite sense of humor, the way he balances his morals and naivete with the world he lives in...He might be one of my fav characters honestly. Orym just oozes comfort! The mini exu party also have a wonderful dynamic with one another and I want to see how he opens up to the others! All in all, very solid character, don't really get the whole "calling him boring" stuff.
Fearne is unhinged and I'm with her every step of the way. Ashley Johnson is just peak comedy gold for me. Just, the sweet little voice with the chaos god level shenanigans she gets into...man, it's my cup of tea. I think she's great as a party player because although she doesn't seem to care that much for the plot she just loves interacting with everyone in the group. Specially loved her interactions with Bertie.
Dorian is probably my favorite or my second favorite character. I pray to the CR gods that he's a permanent addition to the table. Sure, more players make things a bit more chaotic, but I just like him too much. The exu dynamic is one of the things I like most, and I just really love bards. They're my favorite class and I like how Robbie plays them. He's funny, but very well mannered and outright a deconstruction of the bard stereotype at times. Seeing a Charisma 20 player play a high charisma character is always great.
Bertrand was just perfect. He came and went, staying every second in his peak. He was funny, he was mysterious, he was tragic and he was oh so lovable despite (or maybe because) it all. I think he died at a perfect point, the right push for the party from "yeah, solving this would be cool and we get money" to "This is personal now". I knew he wasn't forever so I enjoyed him while I could. I'm excited for the actual character but, until then, well played Travis Willingham.
I might change my mind though the campaign and maybe the characters won't live to this new expectations, but I'm fine with that too. I'm just really surprised of how much I'm liking them this time around. As a og VM fan, it always took me a while to like all the characters. Like, maybe I'd had a few I immediately like and the others slowly grew on me. I found Beau a bit annoying at first but she was one of my favorites by the end, same with freaking Scanlan.
My recommendation for old CR fans, specially those that only watched MN, is to give them time. And I mean time. Not every character will show their true colors at the start. Maybe the ones you dislike now might actually turn into your favs for the same reasons you used to hate them. If it's truly not that enjoyable for you, then there's a lot of other podcasts about D&D. Trust me, you don't owe this show anything, you can just leave whenever. But if you're enjoying the show, just not so much the characters, don't worry too much about it. With 8 players, we've barely had any time with each individually.

Monstrous Things: my camp nano project!*
*All information here is subject to change!
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Format: Third-person narrow, standalone novel
Status: We're still heavily in the feeling-things-out stage
Word Goal: 7500 by the end of April (trying to go very easy on myself this camp lmao)
Tropes: Slowburn romance, multiple queer characters, enemies to friends to lovers, found family (of monsters), gratuitous misinformation about how circuses and childcare work, no research we die like men
Warnings: Physical violence (no blood/gore/guts), traumatic backstory (is not sexual assault, but may bear similarities that people may find uncomfortable), basically if you can't watch an episode of Criminal Minds you probably should be careful with this one.
Molly Reid had an extensive bucket list -- against her therapist's advice, but what did he know? Of all the things on said list, though, working at Fairyland was not one of them. What was one, however, was having a conversation with Bigfoot. Doing it as an employee was sure to be less humiliating than buying a ticket as a single adult to a children's attraction.
Plus, twenty dollars an hour was too good too pass up, even if her schedule would be inconsistent at best. And they willing to overlook her college dropout status. But most importantly, the work uniform included a mask that would cover her mouth -- and her scars.
It was honestly the last detail that had compelled her to apply in the first place. Up until now, she'd been staying afloat as a barista. But no amount of free coffee made the stares worth it. Besides, if she had to make one more latte with so many customizations it was barely a latte anymore, she was going to scream.
So she was actually almost excited to start this new job.
Major Characters
➔ Molly Reid: Human. she/her. One the edge, swears a lot, Mommy Issues™
➔ The Dragon: Dragon. he/they. Works in Fairyland's daycare. A lovable menace with so many secrets it'll make your head spin.
➔ Benny Bigfoot: Sasquatch. he/him. Fairyland's mascot. Big dad vibes, big imposter syndrome.
➔ Pearl: Mermaid. she/her. Does visual entertainment (underwater dancing, storytimes, singing) as well as birthday parties. Keeps to herself during off-hours.
➔ Maggie: Tree nymph. she/her. In charge of mini golf and the trampoline park. Unhinged, but good at hiding it; weird girl icon.
➔ Cornelius: Satyr. Do NOT call him a faun. he/him. In charge of laser tag and go kart racing. Honestly kind of an asshole, big imposter syndrome 2 electric boogaloo.

1. your all time favorite bl and why
1000 stars, though 2gether is always in my mind <3
2. that one bl that scarred you for life
it didn't scar me for life but The Blue Hour I watched it at like 5AM for Gun and I didn't know it was like a horror movie and I was like...why do I feel so creeped out by everything? it's the first movie to unsettle me in years, but that also could've been because I hadn't gone to bed yet ahshs
also I watched all the The Shortest Distance is Round movies, not because I liked them but bc I payed for a month of Gaga00lala and I was just watching stuff and also bc it was all so messed up and I wanted to see how much messier it would get agshshs wouldn't recommend someone gets their dick bitten off in the first movie and I don't want to even get into the other stuff
there's more from gagaoolala but let's not talk about them I've moved on :)
3. is there any bl that made you feel very single?
ATOTS, Bad Buddy, 2gether, Quaranthings, Don't Say No
4. if you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be?
MODC ending 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
5. that one bl you detest (don’t hold back)
Th*rnType 🙄🙄 like their toxicity wasn't even fun to watch it was so annoying 🙄🙄 like I'm not the purity police and I even like genuinely toxic ships sometimes ( and not Tumblr's warped definition of toxic but actual toxic ships ) and I still found them so genuinely unappealing. Also waterboyy but for it's wasted potential and other reasons I don't want to get into.
6. your top five:
1. A tale of thousand stars
2. 2gether
3. Bad Buddy
4. Light On Me
5. My Love Mix Up!/Kieta Hatsukoi/my vanishing first love
7. that trashy bl that you lowkey like
TonhonChonlatee - I forgot everything about this show except Khaotung's little dancey dance 😊😊 and the teddy bear scene agshshs but I remember thinking it was kinda bad but I was having enough fun to keep watching it
8. your favorite korean bl (it’s important we know)
Light On Me - my beloved <3
9. but also your top 3 for kbls
1. Light On Me
2. Where Your Eyes Linger
3. The Imaginary one in my head about Seojun/Suho from my beloved True Beauty <3 and the Seojun/JuKyung/Suho one. something about friends to enemies to friends to lovers seems fun.
Also whatever those two unhinged bitches from strangers from hell had is better than most kbls
honestly so many Korean BL's I've seen have been pretty mid or just so fast it's hard to enjoy anything about them asghshs
10. season 2? which one?
I actually don't think I want season 2 of any BL, I'm afraid they'll pull something like in ipytm ( which I still haven't watched ) and emotionally I can't handle that. I think special episodes like 2gether got is good, or a like a movie with a focused plot, but even then it's like...what if Aof isn't directing it? how do we even know it'll be good and not crush our souls and destroy our beloved characters, huh?
11. a bunch of dramas will air soon. which ones are you the most excited for?
moonlight chicken and cupid's last wish, they both have EarthMix and look kinda messy and I'm living for it.
12. Tag Them
I tag my bestie @ralbeleren and anyone who sees this and wants to do it 😊
