the shadowgast pacific rim au that exists in my brain.
#LONG TAGS LORE DUMP FOR A FIC I'M NEVER GONNA WRITE PROBABLY#deirta is pentecost she lost her husband in a battle and piloted the jaeger to shore alone - verin is tendo he could fight but deirta#doesn't want either of her sons in a jaeger ever. verin is okay enough with this. essek is not.#caleb ran a triple arm jaeger with astrid and wulf and lost his mind a little bit when they died. he felt them die. the added stress of#piloting a jaeger to shore on his own put him in the hospital and then a psych ward for three months#before he began helping with wall construction as equipment maintenance. clearly this is still a magic au and tech = magic etc etc#I CANNOT stress enough that jaegers are powered by luxon beacons.#anyway essek is in mako's position and caleb is beckett. the restless assistant and the tired veteran#essek chooses caleb's candidates - the candidate process is a little more complicated because these fantasy jaegers#work off of both magic and manual physical effort - candidates have to be evenly matched in both physical and mental fields#blumendrei only worked because caleb and astrid combined matched wulf in physicality. astrid and wulf matched caleb in casting.#it was. unhealthily competitive between them at times and astrid was the worst about it. he still misses them every single day.#it's like. shit hurts to do when one arm or leg is weaker than the other. it's like that. it has to match#essek and caleb have little noodle arms and truly insane skills w casting. so they're compatable. essek is sure. caleb does the same#'why do you keep making that face' bit like beckett did bc he's tired of essek's attitude and deirta's flat dismissal of him#they metaphorically roll the same exact initiative and the fight ends in caleb casting firebolt/essek casting sapping sting#and the two of them both use their reaction to counterspell. they both move to cast again when deirta is like Okay Stop Fighting I Get It#heehoo. the first time they drift together caleb leans that essek secretly recovered a beacon from a downed jaeger and has been using it to#advance his research while passing himself off as a genius - not that he isn't. he just has another stepping stone as well.#essek gets to live thru caleb's experience of feeling two (2) people die at the same exact moment. yeah verin has to pull that fuckin plug.#other notes. veth and yeza r the scientists. OBVIOUSLY veth drifts with a kaiju brain like are u KIDDING me#other jaeger teams are fjord+jester yasha+beau and the tealeaf triplets.

If you're thinking about reading the Pacific Rim novelization... you should know this first.
The only thing Alex Irvine's novelization of Pacific Rim is good for is scraping lore; and if you wanna do that, you have to compare it with all the other available text (Beacham's blog, creator interviews, Pacific Rim: Man, Machines, & Monsters, Tales From Year Zero, and Tales From The Drift) because some of the information is wrong or outdated. (Oh, and also, some of the information in PR:MMM is wrong or outdated. And Beacham occasionally hecks things up. You have to really compare your texts here.)
The novelization, you see, is just constantly like this:
Extra racism!
Nobody did embarrassment like the Japanese. Mako blushed right to her hairline and bowed several times.
Pretentious prose over authentic emotion! (Also, bonus typo!)
Whenever he got to construct something, he had that crackle in his head… especially when he was about to do something as balls-out crazy as Drift with a sample of a dead kaiju. Swap neurotrasmissions with a silicate cerebellum. Open himself up to the alien alpha waves of a nonhuman sentience.
Casual misogyny!
Mako Mori was a puzzle, and she didn’t seem to be interested in letting anyone solve her.
Hanging lampshades on "problems" that only exist in Alex Irvine's mind!
“Everybody out of here, now!” Tendo Choi started yanking cables out of the control console, hoping to cause some kind of crash in Gipsy Danger’s systems. It occurred to him that he’d shouted in Chinese, but people seemed to have gotten the message.
Capitalist bootlicker Newt!
Newt was almost as surprised. The entire Pan-Pacific Defense initiative was funded by a black marketeer who recouped his investment by selling parts of the kaiju whose killing he had financed. And some of the parts were purchased by Kaiju Science! Newt probably had tissue and organs on his lab tables that came from this Hannibal Chau person. Now that was a public-private partnership, Newt thought admiringly.
So yeah, if you're going to read the novelization, please know what you're getting into first. It's honestly one of the worst books I've ever read.

No but Raleigh telling himself every day for five years that he needs to go back he needs to go he needs to go back and at first going back is Anchorage 'cause Yancy is dead and he wants to go home.
Then the going back turns into going back to work 'cause he doesn't have money and he needs to do something with his life and he thinks "I need to return to the Shatterdome", but the fear is so intense it paralyzes him on the spot. The closest he is to going back is the Wall. Construction kinda feels like he's repairing a jaeger, right? That's good, he is keeping himself in good shape and using his time for something useful.
Every time he skips town chasing a vacant on the wall, he thinks "I should move back home" but at this points he doesn't know where it is anymore. He might not miss the trauma or the pain, but he misses being in action, feeling useful, leading. He misses his brother, he misses his jaeger, Tendo, the j-tech crew, his tiny room in the Shatterdome. He misses being able to properly eat and he misses feeling warm, not less-cold.
He thinks "I need to go back to those things before this kills me" and he doesn't. He goes with the wall. He thinks "I should go find the things I left in the Icebox" but he doesn't. A million little tasks that he let's go each day 'til it's not worth thinking about them anymore.
No one is expecting him there. He can't do it, he has not use in that sense anymore.
Raleigh stares at the horizon from the wall and wonders why the hell he's still there, on a town that doesn't recognize him, working on a wall that won't resist. There's a pull in the middle of his chest, but every time he packs to go, when morning comes, he goes to work and that's it.
Here's the truth:
The ghost that haunts Alaska is not Yancy.
Raleigh is bitter when Pentecost finds him, yes, but he caves quickly, accepting the offer without much resistant. As he helicopter flies from Alaska, Raleigh feels the ice in his heart starting to melt. Each minute he feels more like himself, like that boy he knew so well 5 years ago. His hands are his again, not some reflection of the sun. His voice is his again, it doesn't sound like the wind playing tricks on him. His body remembers the moves, feet walking on their own, eyes wide with wonder and not almost shut against the shiny white landscape.
There he can say he's finally back home.

Yeah I wanna hear everything about your 911 pacrim aus please and thank you 💜
I've got one for lone star and another one for the og show !! they're separate aus for now but I might consider combining them for funsies <333 something about me is that I also love to fuck w worldbuilding a bit. so I see the concept for pacific rim and I raise you some more batshit concepts <3333 mostly I'm messing around with the worldbuilding surrounding the Drift+everything about that, as well as some of the mechanics of Shatterdomes and how they function at top efficiency and shit like that <33
911 lone star
TK grew up on the Shatterdome because both his parents were Jaeger pilots. Owen died in a battle when TK was pretty little (<3) and when TK got old enough, he became Gwyn's new copilot until she gets killed during a mission and TK has to kill the Kaiju and finish the op by himself. he wakes up in the medbay a few weeks later, and tries to stay on as a pilot but he has his mother's eyes and everyone who looks at him only sees her. and he fucking misses his mom. so he leaves and joins the construction teams.
Judd and Mateo are copilots (brothers <3333) and Grace is the chief technician at LOCCENT (Tendo Choi's position in the movie btw). Paul and Marjan are copilots, and Nancy, Tim, and Tommy were copilots in a 3-armed Jaeger, but all three are injured during a battle gone wrong and Tim dies in the medbay. their Jaeger is taken apart and rebuilt as a 2-pilot Jaeger, and Nancy and Tommy become a 2-person crew instead. Tommy's girls (and Charlie, when she's born) live at the Shatterdome with their parents, and all 3 crews (4, when TK comes back) share a communal living space (individual sleeping spaces + communal bathrooms/living areas/dining areas) above the launch bay that holds all their Jaegers. the entire Shatterdome is organized like this, with squadrons made up of several Jaeger teams all living/fighting together as a unit. <33
Carlos is one of the candidates for piloting a Jaeger (ofc.) he joined the PPDC after his dad was killed inside a Jaeger (and I will be getting into Carlos perpetuating the narrative cycle <333) and when they reactivate TK's old Jaeger, Judd volunteers to be the one to go get him (because they're BROTHERS <33) and so that's how tarlos end up as copilots <3333
I don't really have anything else after this other than vibes but there WILL be a scene where after winning their first battle, TK loses consciousness and goes into a coma because the ptsd and physical toll was a little Too Much. and since he was In The Drift when he lost consciousness he's kinda!! trapped in there!!! and Gwyn is there because she's become the Drift. she died in the Drift and now she's part of it. so TK's in the Drift Mindscape talking to his mom (baking cookies!!!!!!) while his body is fighting to survive. and since he's trapped in the Drift, the only thing they can do to save him is send Carlos in after him!!! so Carlos also gets to be part of the mindscape vision <333333333333333
another scene I have is Tommy and Nancy both going down in a fight and the remnants of Tim's essence still contained inside their Drift takes over the Jaeger and pilots them to safety because I will write about the Drift blurring the lines between life and death if it kills me !!!
now for Jaeger names!!!!
TK and Gwyn: Harmony Echo
TK and Carlos: Glory Echo (get it because it's an ECHO of the last Jaeger yet something entirely new??? Jaeger names are the PERFECT opportunity to make some symbolism so by god I will do that)
Judd and Mateo: Outlaw Hustler (I couldn't resist giving Judd a cowboy Jaeger name. I'm right about that <33)
Paul and Marjan: Cobalt Stalker
Nancy, Tommy, and Tim: Paragon Jigsaw
Nancy and Tommy: Paragon Rebel
og 911
kinda similar vibes with the Jaeger squadrons all living together because that's a fuckin good trope and I'm a sap <333
Hen and Chim are copilots, obviously. they deserve it <333 Karen is the chief Jaeger mechanic, so she designs the Jaegers and heads up the construction crews, and also is in charge of repairs/maintenance. Maddie is one of the LOCCENT technicians, along with Josh and Linda, with Sue being the chief tech <3
Athena and Michael used to be copilots, but their connection was damaged in a battle that put them both in the hospital and prevented them from being able to Drift again. so May became Athena's new copilot, and Michael becomes one of the mechanics (Michael and Karen bestie-ship is what I'm saying <33) and also. mothers and their daughters. that is all <3
Bobby is the Marshal, and his whole family was killed in one of The Very First Kaiju Attacks. thus, his whole mission to protect the world from them because by god he has a lot of penance to pay
Buck and Daniel were copilots, and even with his cancer, Daniel fought as long and hard as he could. but eventually he couldn't fight anymore, and because Buck's DNA wasn't a match, they couldn't save him from the illness. and Buck's parents were so distraught over their (favorite) son dying that Buck Drifted with Daniel as he died to try and save him, or at least give some comfort. and Daniel tried to stop him because he didn't want that for his little brother but you know how little brothers are. they don't listen. so Buck got to feel Daniel grow weaker and weaker and finally just. die. and after that he threw himself into training with the Drift because surely his mind could be good for something!!! but he isn't compatible with anyone else!!! and he keeps lobbying Bobby to give him a chance but there isn't anything Bobby can do about it!!! and Buck knows that but he also wants to get out there and do something because he can't escape his parents' contempt and maybe if he kills some Kaiju that can change!!!!
Eddie and Shannon were copilots until Shannon is killed during battle, and Eddie finishes the fight alone. he takes Christopher inland for a few years to grieve and try to move on, but then they recommission Eddie's old Jaeger and they need him back. and predictably, Eddie and Buck become copilots <333
Jaeger names!!!
Athena and Michael: Onyx Prime (a transformers reference?? in my pacrim au??? more likely than u think <3)
Athena and May: Onyx Widow
Hen and Chim: Eden Titanic
Eddie and Shannon: Danger Diablo
Buck and Daniel: Solar Muse
Buck and Eddie: Cosmic Danger
and ik these descriptions are focusing specifically on a certain relationship dynamic but just know that I FULLY intend on expanding on all of them equally because this is a FOUND FAMILY soulmate au more than anything else <333 I believe in equal treatment in the workplace <333

Summary:
After Operation Pitfall, the world was confident they had solved the problem of the Kaiju. The breach had been closed, and the world had been saved. The Pan-Pacific Defense Corps weren’t dismanded, but they were defunded after the construction of three Jaegers, in case the Kaiju came back. And then the world went back to normal.
We came up with names for the things we couldn’t name. The Precursors were the creatures that sent the Kaiju, who Ranger Beckett had seen face to face. The world from which the Kaiju came was deemed the Anteverse. And the Earth continued to spin.
Of course, not everyone believed the Kaiju were fully gone. I was one of those people, and I still am. Newton was another. We stayed lab partners for one year before Newton left and joined Shao Industries, a job specifically designed to irritate Newton’s senses of right and wrong.
A rewrite of Pacific Rim: Uprising. [The whole fic is not in first person].

History:
Pink granite before era 3 was to work helping the Bismuito, in the constructions, together with the cherts and flints, but his real passion was always to paint, that's when everything changed, watching the humans (cavemen) doing their paintings on the wall, before the big diamond attack, she retreated with the other gemstones to the home planet, but with the coming of the 3rd era she has been making pictures, selling in the pavement and taking classes with vidalia on my mini home planet.

Julie a dû s'absenter.

Could you clarify exactly which things good guys can do and which things bad guys can do? And can you explain why the protagonist isn’t allowed to produce a “threat?”
Tumblr media
... It's all very narrative things, so go to a literature class or listen to some videos on narrative, literature, story? Why are you asking me to give you an education in media literacy that your school or college should have given you, Anon?
But a basic run down is:
Maxx "C" creates a story threat.
Heroes act on circumstances. Like MAYBE an Anti-Hero can do that, but the hero isn't allowed to create threats in stories, they act and are acted upon, in part due to story construction, and in part by virtue of their character. Villains and antagonists act and threaten, they cause circumstances. Heroes/Protagonists respond to circumstances.
Yes, I know Villain Protagonists exist, but for the sake of something like the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise or its snow clones, heroes respond to circumstance.
Maxx "C" is a card a villain/antagonist would use to create a menace or dire circumstances (see Tendo vs. Shouma which was its use), that the hero must overcome by virtue of their character.
Like for an example, Sawatari's Yosenju Deck is more of a villain style strategy due to its sneakiness and hit-and-run style strategy.
Seriously, go sign up for classes on this stuff or watch videoes.

2, maleigh?
• When I started shipping them: basically as soon as I first started to find stuff out about Pacrim????
• My thoughts: they're SUCH a good pairing, like they're so evenly balanced (...I mean I guess that's what drift compatibility is all about, huh) and I love that even though Mako is a super capable woman, she still lets Raleigh (who has that natural protective instinct) take care of her and defend her (particularly in that scene with Chuck). and I like that over the course of the film, Raleigh learns a lot from her about respect and dignity. they have a bit of exchange in what they give to each other and bring to their drift.
• What makes me happy about them: just,,,, them,, my beloveds,,,,, their whole vibe is just SO GOOD. Raleigh has the biggest heart eyes. Mako has just as much heart eyes for him. she's so small and he's so big and their whole aesthetic (especially Raleigh's appearance as a Stereotypical White Boy Jock paired with tiny little Japanese Mako ready to Throw Down)... they just complement each other SO WELL i love them
• What makes me sad about them: they've been through so much,,,, lost so much,,,, what on Earth is up with Uprising bc I refuse to accept that,,,, also Mako's pain when she thinks Raleigh is dead for a hot minute at the end of Pacrim gets to me. your Tendo-centric fic that touched on that makes it hit even harder hnsbdhdnsbdhs
• Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I haven't read enough fanfic to know tbh
• Things I look for in fanfic: once again, I haven't read enough fanfic about them to know. whatever it is you do. that's what I look for shdjdnsjsk
• My wishlist: idk man I would LOVE to see/read about them struggling to figure out normal life and their relationship and what domestics might look like, bc I feel like neither of them would be very great at that or settle into it very well tbh. brb gonna send you a dialogue prompt shdjdnsk
(OH ALSO I would love to see more SLR Maleigh whenever you might feel inspired for that,,,, 👀)
• Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: ????? no one?????
• My happily ever after for them: something quiet and safe, a small little wedding and maybe living in an apartment for a while before they buy a house together, just to figure things out first, ya know??? a nice house with a big fireplace and whirlpool bathtub somewhere that it snows but not too much and is warm in summer but not TOO hot. also I picture them having a huge dog, like a Bernese Mountain Dog or some such. Raleigh works at a local construction company bc otherwise he's BoredTM and gets stir-crazy, meanwhile Mako collects old cars and plays mechanic on them and teaches the kids around town how to fix up their own cars. she also collects random thrift store trinkets that clutter up the mantel at home — they have a LOT of secondhand Christmas tree ornaments. Jake (and Amara?) are coming for Christmas dinner. Mako and Raleigh haven't talked about having kids, yet, but maybe once the holidays are done. maybe someday soon.

anything for you [miya atsumu x reader]
pairing: miya atsumu x fem reader
genre: fluff
warning(s): n/a
word count: 1.5k
overview: your boyfriend does everything he can to make your special day as great as possible
notes: a commission for @tsumue! happy birthday lia ❤️ I hope you have a wonderful day and that this helps brighten it just a bit! sending you lots of love!
Tumblr media
The sound of the front door to the apartment swinging shut awakens you from your deep, peaceful slumber. Rubbing your eyes to bring your surroundings into focus as you sit up with a yawn, you glance over at the alarm clock on your bedside table. You’ve woken up a bit later than usual, you find—much to your satisfaction, since you’d needed the rest after a long and tiresome week—but it’s the sharp, blue numbers displayed above the time that draw your attention. The date is a special one that makes your heart leap with excitement and brings a smile onto your lips.
With a newfound energy, you slide out of bed so you can march over to the bedroom door. Shuffling down the hallway towards the kitchen brings your significant other into view and widens the grin on your face. “Whatcha doin’, ‘Tsumu?” you inquire in a sing-song voice, making your way over to where he’s standing in front of the counter, lifting small boxes out of a plastic bag.
He jumps at the sound of your voice and whirls around to face you, caramel colored eyes wide with shock. “H-Honey! Thought you were still sleepin’!” With far less subtlety than he probably intended, he throws a dishtowel over whatever it is he was unpacking before asking, “I just got back from practice ‘nd trainin’, so, uh… wanna do me a favor ‘nd close yer eyes real quick?”
His clearly frazzled state elicits a small giggle from you, and you decide to play along by shutting your eyes and waiting patiently as you listen to his footsteps travel around your shared home. Soon enough, you feel something come to rest atop your head that feels like a headband, and a small object being placed into the palm of your hand.
When Atsumu tells you to open your eyes, you see him standing in front of you, a fluffy, pink party hat on his head and a small party popper in his hand. Pointing it away from you, he pulls on the string to unleash a wave of confetti and streamers with a loud pop, and you do the same with the one you realize he’s given you in the spirit of things.
“Happy birthday, (f/n)!” he cheers, dumping a clump of confetti over your head and pulling you into a tight hug. His lips meet with yours as he pulls away so he can give you a few, affectionate kisses. “Love ya, baby.”
Your heart flutters in your chest at the tenderness behind his actions, and your fingers tangle themselves in his golden head of hair so you can bring him closer to you to reward him with a few more pecks. “I love you too,” is your gentle response given with a grin that spreads across his own lips as well, “Thanks, babe.”
“Please, hold yer ‘thank yous’ til the end,” he notes with a snicker, “Or else you’ll be givin’ a lot of ‘em today.” As he brushes a few pieces of brightly colored tissue paper off his Team Japan sweater, he makes his way back into the kitchen. “Gimme a sec, ‘kay?”
While he messes around with what he’s brought home, you wander over to a mirror in the entryway to check what’s on your head. To your amusement, he’d placed a headband on you that reads, in silver letters extending atop your head, “It’s my birthday!”
Once he’s finished with his task, he calls you back into the living room where you’re greeted with a plate of your favorite dessert. Plunged into it are two, burning candles that read out your age, and he gestures for you to join him so he can serenade you with what is always an off-tune rendition of Happy Birthday. He tries, and that’s what matters, which is why you pull him into a tight hug before the two of you dig into your sweet meal.
“Hey,” he mentions after you’ve both scarfed down your breakfast treats, “Why don’tcha go ‘nd get the shower runnin’? I’ll be there in a minute.”
You furrow your eyebrows at him and tease, “You’re the stinky one between us, ‘Tsumu.”
“Which is why I’m comin’ in with ya!” he groans, “Now, go on. I’ll clean this up.”
Rather than continuing your banter with him, as you normally would, you decide to go along with his plans and head into the bedroom. His hand planting itself firmly on your butt before you walk away doesn’t surprise you, and you simply chuckle as you smack it away playfully. It’s not long after you’ve stripped off and gotten into the shower to freshen up that he comes to join you and snatches the soapy loofah out of your hands so he can work on lathering you up instead. And when the two of you have finished enjoying each other’s company beneath the warm water, you find another surprise waiting for you on top of a set of comfy pajamas he’s laid out over the bed for you.
With wide, (e/c) eyes, you reach for the bracelet resting atop one of your—his—favorite sweaters, and Atsumu carefully fastens it around your wrist for you. Gently, he kisses the back of your hand while you admire the way the dainty jewelry looks against your skin. “Atsumu…” you murmur, still in awe of how beautiful it is, “I love this so much.” It’s hard not to thank him for it, but you know he’ll tease you if you do, so you settle for showing your appreciation by showering him with kisses.
“Looks perfect on ya,” he comments when your lips separate, “’nd I bet it’ll go great with my sweater.”
A giggle bubbles in your throat as you take a moment longer to fawn over your newest accessory before getting dressed. In the brief silences that linger in the room during the pauses in your conversation, you swear you hear the television on in the living room. Noticing your gaze drift towards the door brings Atsumu to attention, and he rushes out of the bedroom to investigate. However, when you hear the sound of an argument echoing through the door—instigated by your boyfriend’s clear, “Oi! What the hell are ya doin’? Turn it down!”—you’ve already formed your suspicions, which are confirmed when you wander outside.
Standing in the center of the room, beneath an array of multicolored streamers and a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY! sign is none other than Osamu—a party hat perched atop his head of dark hair and a plate of what you’d had for breakfast in one of his hands. When he sees you, he puts the dessert down for a moment to place a noisemaker in his mouth and give it a blow as he shoots off another party popper.
“’Tsumu offered you some food in exchange for doing this, huh?” you mention after the two of you break away from a hug and he’s offered you his warm, birthday wishes.
He nods and chuckles before saying, “But, even if he hadn’t, I woulda stopped by anyway. Giving you a pat on the shoulder, he offers, “Next time ya come over to the restaurant, yer meal’s on me if ya wear that headband.”
“What about mine?” Atsumu butts in.
“It ain’t your birthday, ‘Tsumu,” is his quick retort, “Anyway, I’ll be leavin’ you two lovebirds alone now ‘nd gettin’ back to work. Hope ya have a nice day, (f/n).”
With that said, he grabs a container from your kitchen to take his unfinished dessert in before heading out again, only stopping to take a few photos of you and Atsumu together beneath the sign he’s put up when his twin nags him about it. Once he’s gone, your boyfriend makes a quick trip to the bedroom to grab, you soon find, layers of blankets that he tosses onto the floor.
“Blanket fort?” he suggests, a bright smile lighting up his handsome features.
Enthusiastically, you accept by helping him rearrange your furniture to construct a small hideaway beneath layers of blankets. After you’ve ensured that it won’t collapse in on you, the two of you fill it with pillows before grabbing a laptop to watch movies on and climbing inside. Atsumu reaches out towards you, welcoming you into his arms so he can pull your body flush against his and ensconce yourselves beneath a blanket.
Giving you a squeeze and pressing his lips to the crown of your head, he murmurs, “Wanna just stay like this for the whole day?”
You hum with approval as you nestle your head in the crook of his neck and pepper his exposed skin with tender pecks. “I would love to.” A short silence befalls the two of you, during which he takes to tracing little circles along the small of your back with his fingers. “‘Tsumu?”
“What’s up?”
“I know the day’s not over yet but thank you—for all of this. I really appreciate it.”
Directing your gaze upwards at him brings your eyes to his, and the loving look he regards you with fills your body with warmth. The kiss he plants on your lips is tender and soft, and he seals his gentle expression of affection with the words, “Anything for you, sweetheart.”

REPRESENTAÇÃO FEMININA NA FOTOGRAFIA: Vivien aos olhos de Julia Margaret Cameron
Thiago Melo Costa Ramos

¹ “First, her seductive sexuality. Second, the power and strength (over men) that this sexuality generates for the femme fatale. Third, the deceptions, disguises and confusion that surrounds her, producing her as an ambiguous figure for both the audience and the hero. Fourth, as a consequence the sense of woman as ‘enigma’, typically located within an investigative narrative structure which seeks to find ‘truth’ amidst the deception.”

headcanons about newt and music
he really likes whatever genre the front bottoms are. that shit is his fave.
he also loves queercore and punk music (obviously).
Sarah and the safeword, dog park dissidents, paleye royals, are all faves
you know he likes mcr. you know he has a crush on Gerard way. you know this in your heart of hearts all I had to do was say it out loud
one time he and hermann get drunk and he says "hey I wanna play you something I think you'll like" and he puts on hozier and Hermann loves that, but he pretends to hate the remixes of classical pieces and they jam for a while, until Newt sees that 100 gecs is gonna come in next and he thinks "oh this will be fuckin hilarious" and he says "oh I think you'll really like this next one" and Hermann gives him such a sweet drunk smile that he almost feels bad. Hermann jumps out of his seat when bloodstains comes on and that's how newt permanently lost aux privelages.
Hermann gets him back by making him listen to an hour of lo-fi remixes and bad cover versions of his favourite songs while they're driving somewhere ("what the fuck how did you get a fucking lo-fi remix of heterosexuality is a construct Hermann I am begging you to stop" "Tendo made this one at my request" "I'm going to fucking murder him")
Newt sings very loudly in the shower and Hermann tells him that it's very distracting, but when Newt asks if he should stop Hermann says no.
his comfort band is Bug Hunter. if he listens to Dear McCracken or Be Glad I Love you (go to bed) when he's sad he will cry but in a good way
he listens to meme songs unironically. if asked he'd say it's to annoy Hermann by ghost drifting carmell dansen into his head but he really just thinks it's a bop
you know he screams "you should've raised a baby girl I should've been a better son" every time. you know it. Hermann is worried that he's still struggling with internalised transphobia and Newt says "fuck yeah I am dude but sometimes it's a vibe" and Hermann has absolutely no idea what that means so he just. Holds his hand for that line from then on.
They/them/theirs by worriers gives him unbridled gender euphoria even though he uses he/him/his
Rae Spoon's I hear them calling is a song he would play and dream about top surgery when he was younger, and now that he's had it that song just makes him really happy to see how far he's come
still on the topic of gender you also know true trans soul rebel is a top ten all time favourite songs. we all know this but I wanted to say it anyway. Hermann likes this one too.
he listens to some cavetown but is sure to not pay for it or to listen to cover versions instead because cavetown has a long and continuing history or antisemitism and racism
he loves Penelope Scott
now listen this is 100% me projecting but when he gets bummed about his daddy issues he listens to pink lemonade by the wombats. the line "does he take you places we can't afford to go?" hits him like a freight train every time because his dad left him and his mother poor while he went off and got his new girlfriend extremely expensive gifts. this one is a personal comfort idea because newt having my exact daddy issues makes me feel like maybe I could also get a Phd.
he doesn't like musicals nearly as much as Hermann does, but after the 100 gecs incident they spend a lot of long drives listening to musical soundtracks and he gets pretty into it.
he has a playlist full of glass animals and teddy Hyde and Jack Stauber and it's called "sex playlist" but he only listens to it when he's high
he is not ashamed to like early 2010s pop but Hermann is
that's all I can think of rn but feel free to add on :)
