NEWTON, Mass. — A teachers strike in a Boston suburb entered its eighth day Tuesday — one of the longest in recent state history — with both sides still unable to agree on salaries and other issues, and tensions fraying. The Newton School Committee on Tuesday said it made another revised offer to the Newton Teachers Association, which it described as “a fair and competitive offer that addresses the concerns that the NTA has expressed to the negotiating team and publicly.” “Throughout the duration of the strike, we have presented increasingly competitive (cost of living adjustment) proposals, even when compared to the highest-paying peer districts,” the committee said in a statement. The union has said it is seeking living wages for all employees, increased paid family leave time and a guarantee that social workers will be placed in every elementary and middle school.

“The political veto power of the roughly 3.2 million public school teachers now in our classrooms, who can beat their opponents into submission with lawsuits or simply work to vote them out of office altogether, has saddled America with a system that is impervious to all but the most superficial of reforms.”
(From my blog archive / A reminder regarding why our public schools will never, ever improve—and are only growing worse.)

The teachers in Portland, Oregon are on strike and it makes complete sense. People are arguing against it with “but 45K kids will be out of school.” The teachers are being payed in very little and are forced to pay out of their own pockets for some things, I don’t think that those people will get a quality education if the ones meant to teach them are under that. Although schools as an institution need to be overhauled from the ground up, teacher/student unions are an important step to that. Support this strike!

Someone Who Understands Me
Those who know me understand that I have a negative view of teacher’s unions. I have never been a teacher, nor have I attended a school that was run by a union. Regardless, I hate unions in general. When it comes to student outcomes, I especially dislike Teacher Unions. The article below is taken from the BLOG “Sultan Knish the Journalism of Daniel Greenfield.” Once again, Greenfield exposes…

Conservative PACs inject millions into local school races
Conservative PACs inject millions into local school races
As Republicans and Democrats fight for control of Congress this fall, a growing collection of conservative political action groups is targeting its efforts closer to home: at local school boards. Their aim is to gain control of more school systems and push back against what they see as a liberal tide in public education classrooms, libraries, sports fields, even building plans. Once seen as…

As a “right-to-work” state, Florida’s Constitution says that the “right of persons to work shall not be denied or abridged on account of membership or non-membership in any labor union or labor organization.” However, legislation signed into law in May by Gov. Ron DeSantis aims directly at unions for public employees, including one of his favorite political targets: teacher unions.

Yet the teacher unions and their enablers in the Democratic Party still fight against school choice and charter schools? Put two and two together, people. Despite what the Wokesters claim, it still equals four (Although these students don’t know that).

The strategic slippage at the heart of the anti-trans campaigns—from trans child to protective caretaker to adult worker—clarifies why and for what purpose the architects of the panic organized their crusade. The anti-trans panic is part of a calculated political campaign, assembling a coalition of disparate forces with overlapping interests and plans. Those plans include destabilizing bulwarks of working-class power, obliterating free and universal public education, privatizing critical elements of social life, reinforcing racial segregation, and pulverizing institutions that can and often do produce oppositional political consciousness. And, because our opponents know what they’re doing, it starts with attacks on organized workers.
