Portraits of our Elders - Parandzem
Parandzem Babajanyan Karapetyan, born 1936 (88yo). She worked 40 years as a librarian in Kornidzor where she's from. An early memory of hers is singing in the 1948 Olympics. She married in 1958 at 22 years old. Her husband Smpat Karapetyan was 24. He was an accountant for the communist party of which they were both members. They were a working couple during times when forming large families was preferred in the village. They had 1 child, a daughter named Lena. Parandzem has 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She used to make Armenian traditional dresses aka Taraz. She loved to knit traditional socks. Boasting 230 pairs knitted and given away to friends and family. Unfortunately, now due to old age, her left eye is blind and her right eye is losing vision. Her smile always persists.
Her Taraz was an Armenian SSR-wide typical dress however it's most common in the Tegh community. Slide 8, Parandzem is the the woman on the left. Picture was taken in her 50's. She kept her dress all these years and feels young and happy wearing it

I’m inclined to agree.
Their continued silence is deeply troubling.
*context*
Plus it’s a blatant display of double standards.
Especially with regards to Ukraine and their disgraceful, cynical support for Azerbaijan.

Extraordinary Armenia: An Underrated Country with Plenty to Offer
Here is my Armenia trip report from when I visited in October 2022
I visited Armenia in the fall of 2022 with few expectations. At first glance, tourism in Armenia seemed limited to the Armenian diaspora or Russians who were coming in by the droves to escape the Ukraine war draft. I hadn’t expected it to be such a delightfully easy country to travel around, and I didn’t plan to fall in love with it. Although I had initially planned on visiting in 2008, what…

“The armed formations of Karabakh are withdrawing from their positions as part of the agreements reached during the meeting in Yevlakh. As of today, more than 800 firearms, grenades, mortars, guided anti-tank missiles and MANPADS have been surrendered,” the Russia peacekeeping mission added. Based on the agreement, Russian peacekeeping forces will replace the Artsakh Defense Army at those positions.
This is already the second convoy of Russian trucks entering Artsakh through the Lachin corridor on Friday, News.am reported. Earlier, a Reuters correspondent had reported that seven trucks of Russian peacekeepers had traveled to Artsakh on the Goris-Stepanakert motorway.
It is not yet known what cargo the trucks are carrying.
“Regarding the developments in the region, we emphasize that respect for the rights of Armenians and the status of Armenians are a necessity, the security and rights of Armenians in the region must be maintained and the internationally recognized borders must be fully preserved,” Raisi stated.
Iran's stance in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has consistently revolved around preserving the territorial integrity of both Azerbaijan and Armenia, respecting international borders, and safeguarding the rights of Armenians. Based on these principles, Iran recognizes Syunik as part of Armenia's territorial integrity and Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. At this pivotal moment, Iran has the potential to play an active and effective role, aligning with its principles, to help broker a ceasefire between neighboring countries and facilitate the peaceful return of Karabakh to Azerbaijan while ensuring the safety of the Armenian minority.

Artsakh has been blocked for 2 weeks 100+ days already, 120.000 people are deprived of their human rights, many of them are children. Tomorrow is Christmas, and on this very special holiday consider supporting indigenous christian nation by donating to good causes.
After 9 months of total blockade and after heavy shelling by the fascist dictatorship of Azer/baijan, the population of around 120.000 indigenous armenians had to flee Artsakh. Armenia is a small country, its population numbers at just a little below 3 million people - to accomodate more than 100k people, who left everything behind and need to find new places to live and work at, is a heavy task. Consider donating to the charities listed here.
URGENT:
Solar Haghorti - provide hot water to the Haghorti village in Artsakh
Sunrise in Artsakh - solar water heaters for Artsakh (please read the page, donation button is in the text, it's easy to miss)
Greenhouse Project - building greenhouses to overcome the challenges faced by Artsakh’s loss of land after the war as well as the blockade
Greenhouses and Beekeeping for Artsakhi Armenians - help Artsakh families to rebuild their lives in Armenia and create food secure and climate resilient communities
Supplies for Syunik and Beyond - fundraising for the Border Villages in Syunik
Legal Defense Fund for Jerusalem Armenians - help the Armenian Community of the Old City of Jerusalem as it stands in defense of its survival and security
OTHER:
Armenian food bank - food, clothing, medicine
VIVA foundation - doctors and medicine (25% of what I get from my winter commissions will go here)
Frontline Therapists - provides mental health services to Armenian veterans and others experiencing war related trauma
All for Armenia - support vulnerable populations, displaced families and border communities in Armenia
Kooyrigs - aid for those living in areas highly targeted by azer\\baijan
MIASEEN - stability for families in need
LGBTQ+:
Pink Armenia - serves community's needs, protects LGBTQ+ people's rights and pushes for the change of public policy around LGBTQ+ issues
GALAS - supportive network for LGBTQ+ people, promotes their personal empowerment within their communities and helps to build bridges between the LGBTQ+ and Armenian communities

Women who wished to become pregnant must lean their stomach against the stone. Candle lighting was part of the cult. If a woman became pregnant she should come back and make a mark at the stone.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Azerbaijan may be preparing for military aggression against his country as the term "Western Azerbaijan," has become increasingly popular in public discourse in Azerbaijan.
During a Nov. 18 speech at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, Pashinyan claimed Azerbaijan media, schools, and universities had started calling Armenia this way, warning the rhetoric could signal Baku's desire to start an offensive military operation.
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned a select group of lawmakers that Azerbaijan might be planning to invade Armenia in the coming weeks, Politico reported on Oct. 13.
Officials familiar with the discussion told Politico that Blinken spoke about the possibility of an invasion in a conference call on Oct. 3.
The call addressed officials' questions about the U.S. response to Azerbaijan's September offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh.
During the call, Blinken reportedly told lawmakers that the State Department will not renew an established agreement that permits the U.S. to offer Azerbaijan military aid. The agreement has been renewed every year since 2002 but lapsed in June.
In the same conversation, Blinken warned that Azerbaijan may invade southern Armenia.
Of particular concern is the southern region of Syunik, which Azerbaijan calls the Zangezur Corridor and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly referred to as "Western Azerbaijan."
In mid-September, the Azerbaijani military launched a lightning offensive against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, an unrecognized Armenian state within the territory of Azerbaijan. Local authorities eventually surrendered in a ceasefire mediated by Russia.
A formal decree was later signed, dissolving all official institutions of the breakaway state from Jan. 1, 2024. Following Azerbaijan's victory, around 100,000 people have left Nagorno-Karabakh for Armenia.

Four Armenian Soldiers Killed and Another Wounded in Azerbaijani Shooting
Tumblr media
YEREVAN — Four Armenian soldiers were killed and another wounded when their positions on Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan came under cross-border fire early on Tuesday. Armenia’s Defense Ministry said its outposts around the border village of Nerkin Hand in southeastern Syunik province were targeted for four hours. The gunfire stopped at 9:30 a.m., it said in a statement. The head of the village administration, Khachatur Baghdasaryan, told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service that he heard intense gunshots at around the same time. Azerbaijan confirmed that its troops deployed in the area opened fire early in the morning. Its State Border Service claimed…
