There were very few places in the Lands Between where Nepenthe felt safe. Not even the Mohgwyn Palace, in its alleged promise for love and devotion unto somebody like her. Perhaps it was because she never truly felt alone there - an aspect that some of her peers appreciated more than her. Nepenthe assumed it was all of the eyes that got to her; the beady stare of the monstrous crows, the inky gaze of the crimson albinaurics, the potential judgement of her betters.
She was fortunate that she had opportunities to go elsewhere when it became too much. Slipping away under the guise of duty.
There was one spot in Liurnia that she had taken a liking to as of late. The remains of a sorcerer's rise, long since abandoned by its owner, reduced to a truly decrepit state. Walls that once came together neatly had begun to crumble, dust settled in every corner, and the very ceiling had caved in to reveal the endless, starry sky.
Beautiful, isolated decay. Perfect for somebody like her...
... But not tonight.
Tonight, Nepenthe was surprised to find the Rise occupied by not one, but two strangers. She'd reached the top of the ladder and stopped dead, her grip on the bars as white-knuckled as the porcelain of her mask.
She didn't say a word.

It ached. The hunger, not like any. It wasn't satisfied by the deer, boars nor anything hunted. Enormous amounts he devoured - never sated. It created a void he couldn't fill with food. His hunger... was it even hunger? Alike to hunger of food and hunger of... Something... something was missing. A piece of something now within him. It demanded to become whole again.
Deathroot... nothing tasted as sweeter... nothing gave him that sense of satiety, even if it was only a moment of relief. His servants... were taking too long. Even with the aid he shared, the beast eye. I
Eventually, impatience lured him out from the Sanctum, farther in the lands - the faint scent... the root... it sprouted from somewhere. Within the grounds? He couldn't tell - but that scent lingered around, even without presence of the deathroot. It irritated that inner pain, even further. Claiming yet another prey under his claws.
Gurranq pressed his hood covered head down with his hands, his maw dripping of blood from the latest kill. Embarrassment. Was this, a mere animal following his intincts, what he had become? All this, for a desperate attempt to silence that awful pain within him. His sin...
