Okay AU where Wei Wuxian gets summoned back to life by like the Su Sect head disciple a couple years pre canon.
The head disciple idk maybe saw the curse backlash on Su Minshan and was Disillusioned By His Sect Leader’s Actions and maybe some other shit so he was like “I’m gonna get back the Yiling Patriarch so he can get revenge on the guy actually to blame for the hundred holes curse”
WWX is So Confused when he wakes up. Who the fuck is this guy. Where is he. What is going on.
Because there isn’t a conspiracy going on, he gets a very nice letter detailing his life and what he is to do.
So WWX has like fifteen emotions about Su Minshan being the start that lead to his death and, in a particular show of absolutely no self restraint, goes Yiling Patriarch on Su Minshan.
F to Su Minshan, he dies very quickly and painfully.
And here is where WWX should make his escape attempt, exact the person to find him is a baby disciple, seeing Su Minshan’s body, seeing WWX and long forgotten instincts kick in.
Five minutes later, WWX finds himself carrying The Baby Disciple to the Sect’s infirmary, yelling for a healer because their sect leader had a qi deviations and he couldn’t stop it and someone help
WWX is very confused this whole lie is apparently working. He gets the sense that the disciples’ curriculum is still being established. And while sorting all that out, he thinks about quitting the sect and running off with his new life except people keep handing shit to him because this newly established sect does not have a proper heir. It does have a Head Disciple who decided to commit suicide murder so WWX could be here.
He categorically does not want to be in charge. Unfortunately, until the second disciple toughens up, he’s gotta be
And it’s not like the whole sect is a mess? There are a lot of rogue cultivators who joined a sect that didn’t want to be as arrogant as the great sects. People whose sects were destroyed, too bitter to join any other established one, but willing to rebuild
They’re nice people. Leaving then hanging just feels kinda bad? So he can stick around for a while. And teach some lessons because WWX may not be a Lan but unfortunately he is that annoying genius that has to hear a song only once and fuck no, that’s not how that Lan song goes, you’re playing that incorrectly—
So he’s keeping himself busy instructing and conducting nighthunts and doing work he Did Not Sign Up For. He twitches when they call him sect leader. But they make advances and maybe they can figure out some musical cultivation of their own if they’re so intend on doing that. They can be better than just less good Lan, he thinks.
Now, however, here’s the thing. Su Minshan still obviously cursed Jin Zixun. And when a sect leader dies surprisingly, that draws attention, especially since he was so close friends with Jin Guangyao
WWX does not intend to drop the “by the way your friend did shady shit” thing so obviously but if the Jin keep pushing for shit now that the Su sect is suddenly getting a lot better very quickly, he’s gonna push back
Cut to: WWX, in the middle of teaching Baby Disciples some half-forgotten nonsense melody, freezing up as Lan “I am gonna I investigate the shit of the thing that started the events that got my one love killed” Wangji shows up in his classroom

Wei Wuxian doesn’t remember all that much about being dead, but he has enough of a recollection of the experience that now, opening his eyes and squinting into the glaring shroud that is sun-bright morning mist, he understands that he is very much Not Dead.
In another life, his awakening would coincide with the tart taste of apples under his teeth, sticky makeup caked on his face, a donkey’s bray, jeering remarks, and the distinct lack of time to do anything but hurry to keep up with the events around him.
In this life, he is surrounded by the tranquil silence of nature, hearing nothing but the distant trill of birdsong.
Or, four years after his death Wei Wuxian is resurrected in the body of a desperate disciple of the Moling Su Sect.

MDZS Shapeshifting Cultivation AU plans
this is mostly just a note for my future fanfic writing, because I have a lot of fic ideas surrounding these ideas and plan to link this post in their notes. posting this publicity for any feedback (pls i beg any ideas) and if anyone wishes to use this as well for fics go ahead!!
Non-cultivators do not have animal traits. These traits come through by learning shape-shifting cultivation.
Not only is it extremely difficult to learn to hide their traits, it is extremely rude to do so for many reasons. The main and biggest reason is hiding your traits as a cultivator is like a big “fuck you” to your ancestors.
While there is A LOT of genetic factors, that is not always the case. The genetic factor is usually just upon the main clan families. A cultivator can never gain traits from the main clans, so they are seen as mythical beings even within this universe.
For rogue cultivators it’s USUALLY random, and can even be from the outer clan types. This is because somewhere in their family tree far back there would have been someone from this clan.
Cultivator children born within a main clan branch have their animal traits from a very young age, and they do not typically change beyond a FEW exceptions. If these changes ever happen, even to outer branching families it’s seen as negative, as they have “abandoned” their clan.
Qishan — Wen family are wolves, outer branches are based on house dogs

Wen Chao — Brown wolf
Wen(Zhao) Zhuliu — Asian Black Bear, often confused as a dog bc he was taken in by the Wens and all that

Baoshan Sanren and her disciples become Nine-Tailed Foxes through cultivating. One of if not the only exceptions to changing attributes the cultivation world has ever seen. Nobody knows how it’s done, and only her disciples have ever become nine-tailed foxes.
This pisses off the Wens no doubt, because they think as canines the Nine-Tailed Fox should belong to them.

oooo for the AU Ask Game, an alternate universe where JYL marries someone else who isn't Jin Zixuan? (your choice on who she marries and why!)
Oooh this is a fun one! All right, here we go... this might change EVERYTHING lol
Who does JYL marry? There is absolutely no question in my mind that the best option in terms of inter-sect connections, and a desire on JC and WWX's parts that she be safe and cared for, is for her to marry Nie Mingjue. She would have had a chance to get to know him during the Sunshot campaign, and we all know NMJ drinks respect -women-juice for breakfast - and is a big softie, like look what he lets his brother get away with >.< So yeah, JYL goes to Qinghe and gets a spare didi out of the deal!
But why does she marry? Because yes, she still has feelings for JZXuan, but he's still a man-child who doesn't know a good thing when he sees it ;) But seriously, we have YMJ which is still rebuilding after the war and likely getting more and more in debt to get the supplies and manpower to fix up Lotus Pier, not to mention attracting new disciples to feed and clothe, so they'd need an alliance with another great sect - one that's stable financially and could even help YMJ. Gusu is still rebuilding as well, so they're out, and we've eliminated the Jin. THankfully Qinghe is a solid option all around (as stated above). And JYL has known from the time she was young that she would marry for an alliance, not for love - she would be the one to sit JC and WWX down to tell them it needs to be done (when they hear her suggestion of NMJ, that's the thing that gets them on board - they would have fought just about anyone else).
So at Koi Tower, things might be a little more uncertain because these clans are based on hereditary hierarchy, and without an heir along Jin Zixuan's line, his position is uncertain even if he's the only legitimate son. So JGS pushes for a marriage - even worse when he sees Qin Su's pursuit of JGY, because he'll be DAMNED if he allows JGY to marry before JZXuan. Sadly, I have no idea who he'd marry, probably the daughter of a smaller sect's leader (Yao or Ouyang maybe), but it would be a rushed deal and will make poor JZXuan miserable - but he'll do it because it's what's expected of him, and even though he will not love his wife, he will still give her far more respect than his father gave his mother (I know, low bar, but the boy is TRYING).
So with JYL engaged to NMJ by the time of the Phoenix Mountain Hunt, things go a little different - yes WWX will bust out the Wen remnants and fuck out of dodge, but JYL will go to NMJ and ask him to help WWX (at the very least give him a chance to explain instead of denouncing him with everyone else). This turns the tide for many things because once NMJ sees the conditions of the Burial Mounds and what's left of the Wen, he will be amenable to helping - but will do so under the condition that WWX give up demonic cultivation (and in fact he suggests Nie cultivation as an alternative - this will lead to a sad moment when WWX FINALLY comes up with a proper story and claim that WZL melted his core to explain that he's core-less, and after much crying all around, they can finally move forward from this mess).
So the Nie will lend their protection to the Wen in the Burial Mounds and actually suggest they move up into Qinghe - not by the Unclean Realm, but he will give them land to live on that isn't full of resentful energy, and they will have QHN's protection. This is good, and in return, a certain doctor meets NMJ and will start researching his condition to treat (and hey, if you wanna have fun, have her join NMJ & JYL, I'm easy ;)
So yeah! One change and everything changes like dominos :D

Hi! I just read your fics and I love them! In the Qin Su!WWX au I believe you mentioned in a few places that WWX can no longer use cold springs bc it would be harmful (ig?) for hin in Qin Su's body?? I feel like I'm missing some lore here... How would it be bad for him? Is it like a gender thing or a cultivation type thing? And how do cultivation types differ based on gender/sex of a person?
In canon, women don't use the cold spring, so I ran with the idea that meditating in cold water is healthful for male cultivators (with excess yang energy), while meditating in hot water is healthful for female cultivators (with excess yin energy).
It's not harmful to go to the opposite gender's bathing area, but doing it too often might hamper one's cultivation. For trans and nonbinary disciples, they choose a bathing area depending on whether they've completed a cultivation-based physical transition. Wei Wuxian doesn't experience gender dysphoria in Qin Su's body, so he either a) goes to Lan Xichen's hot spring, which was originally built for Lan Yi or b) visits the women's hot spring/steaming rooms at a specific time designated for trans/nb folks.

🌀Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing...
hmmm i have had another segment of that AU where Carrie Kelly is Tim's Robin mostly written for years, I keep fiddling with the ending. it's one of those fics i'm gonna summarize with an excerpt, I'm thinking this one:
Robin almost tripped over herself, stopping so hard, but she sorted her limbs out without actually falling down the roof, and dropped into a defensive stance. “Who are you?” she demanded.
The stranger cocked his head. “I’m Batman,” he said. His voice was a little less deep than Tim’s, flatter and throatier, so that instead of making a pronouncement from on high, he came off as stating crushingly obvious fact.
Robin glared. “You’re not.”
“Am.”
“I’m Robin! I know Batman. You’re not him.”
This Batman’s mouth twitched with amusement, almost the same way Tim’s did. “Other Batman.”

You know this is hard. I don't generally remember ideas existed if I don't write at least 2k of them down immediately ngl. And from my abandoned drafts there's so many....oh!
Okay here's one that I think is super funny but I can tell I'm never gonna finish. I was complaining in the groupchat that I'd just read a fic that asked me to believe modern AU Wei Wuxian dated Jin Zixun, got dumped by him, and was broken up about it. Impossible.
I was like, if you want to use an existing villain as a fuckboi ex, still why pick the guy who never once had the power to do anything to Wei Wuxian except annoy him? There's options! And then like. We've actually seen shitty boyfriend Wen Chao done, usually a coercion situation. Xue Yang is a semi-plausible abusive ex if you make them the same age and shift some other variables around, seen that.
You know what none of us had seen? Su She.
And it's weird people don't use Su She for this! He's pretty capable, he's a hard worker, he has to be decent looking if he was allowed to be a Lan disciple, he's not totally dumb. He's deeply selfish but in a mildly complicated way. He's dollar store option Lan Wangji, that's his whole bag!
If you're going to have wwx settling for shitty guys (which like I think that's really ooc because Wei Wuxian had no particular interest in having a love life before it turned out he was hip-deep in True Love and he's a brutal judge of character, but if that's your plot, maybe he's doing some queer version of comphet where you gotta be with someone or your identity isn't valid idk) Su She should be at the top of the list.
Now, for my money, with my fairly demanding standards wrt character motive, I can't see Su She successfully bagging wwx without being genuinely into him, because Wei Wuxian's nose for bullshit is superhumanly powerful. But that's not hard to set up.
All you need to justify Su She pursuing Wei Wuxian with genuine intent is for Wei Wuxian to validate Su She's feelings at a critical moment when they're young--say, coming across him directly following the Waterborne Abyss arc, when Su She was no doubt given the rough side of Lan Qiren's tongue at the very least, for losing his sword and being ungracious and so forth. And sympathizing with all his intense feelings of being hard-done-by and disrespected and so forth. (We will assume there was not outright treacherous behavior from Su She at this point.)
Su She will demonstrably follow you to the ends of the earth and through a river of blood for making him feel properly valued. I do wonder whether he's an orphan or just has shit parents. (I wonder this about Jin Zixun also lmao. His parents wouldn't actually need to be shitty, if they were just totally overruled by Jin Guangshan.)
A lot of what he admires in Jin Guangyao is also true of wwx; when they met wwx was on top of the world, making him a target of envy and resentment, but you could definitely reshuffle that if you started early and showed Su She the right background cards.
And Wei Wuxian does not usually decide he likes people who turn out not to deserve it, through a combination of strong insight, the fact that his faith in people typically inspires them to return that devotion, and that it's just not that kind of story. But he is strongly biased to keep liking someone once he starts, in a funny ADHD kinda way where he doesn't really think about you if you're not there but treats you like no time has passed when you come back, so if he decided this ridiculous sulky unLanish Lan was his friend it would take a lot to change his mind. Su She would remind him of both Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan, which would help.
The other half of the brainstorming, that had a plot rather than just character setup, was a modern AU fic where (as I've seen done a couple of times) Lan Wangji was dating Mo Xuanyu in the attempt to get over Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian was dating Su She, who unlike Lan Wangji actually like. Said something. Out loud with his mouth words lmao.
And then, probably by watching lwj watch wwx at a party or something, Su She figured out that Lan Wangji was pining for his boyfriend, and because of his intrinsic jealous shithead qualities he was ecstatic because he finally had something Lan Wangji wanted and couldn't have.
So he went out of his way to gloat and flaunt, and kind of lost track of the actual reasons he had sought out this relationship in the first place in favor of his weird Hanguang-jun complex.
And ultimately he destroys both relationships--poor Mo Xuanyu ah?--and fucks himself over, and you get a wangxian endgame.
I actually seriously considered really writing this, from Su She pov mostly, but the thing was the 'scenario for wwx to attract su she's loyalty' was grounded in the canon setup and the dating scenario required a low-homophobia modern setting, and just thinking about doing the worldbuilding to make them match made me tired and bored. I don't like modern AUs and their chief virtue is recontextualization in a familiar context, if I've gotta build some kinda smushworld then where's the value added?
And the idea, while very funny, just isn't my thing enough to dig in and work for. I'm not inspired by dating drama. If anyone wants to adopt it they're welcome!
Here's a bit (set in the smushworld) I wrote that I really liked, where su she and wwx are texting back and forth in their late teens:
>Jiang Cheng would never forgive me if I ran off.
>Because he’s counting on you to run his Sect for him.
>He absolutely is not. Jiang Cheng will work himself into the ground before he lets me do his job for him.
He didn’t admit that of course the Sect Heir was counting on him, but he didn’t disagree, which was basically the same thing.
Wei Wuxian worked very hard, for all it looked like he didn't, and was rewarded for it, but Su Minshan knew that even in Jiang the equal opportunity only went so far—he was the Sect Leader’s pet for personal reasons, not just on merit, and even so he could never rise to be the equal of the blood heir. It was infuriating sometimes how that didn’t bother him. Have more ambition!
>You’re so lucky, Su Minshan wrote, because he was jealous, he was so so jealous. It was just hard to hate Wei Wuxian.
>I am! <3 But let’s see, outside the main family how important can a person get in Lan Sect? You can make a plan.
Weeks of effort did not produce any particularly good plans. The most realistic one took forty years to show results.
>Maybe I should just kill Lan Wangji and use a spell to disguise myself and take his place, Su Minshan joked.
>Haha! Minshan-xiong, I’m sorry, you couldn’t pull off being Lan Zhan.
That hurt, an unexpected cold dagger to the ribs. Wei Wuxian was his friend! >Why not! he typed angrily. Was his playing too weak, his swordsmanship, his deportment? Would even Wei Wuxian tell him he was just not good enough?
>Because you could never resist saying something bitchy when you had the chance, and he keeps all the bitching inside his head.
Su Minshan put his head down and laughed until he thought he might cry.

May I interest you in the headcanon that (novel) Mianmian is from the Laoling Qin sect?
1. In a sect big enough to be worth taking disciples hostage during Evil Summer Camp.
2. Regarded well enough to have a seat at the Midnight Meeting to complain about (in her case, defend) WWX. Possibly meaning she was in the SSC too, during which Qin Su was known to be rescued by JGY (who now does the seating arrangements).
3. Though Qin Su's mother had her maid Bicao, (Watsonian observation) Qin Su has no maid by the time we see her, which coincidently is also after Mianmian has already left her sect. 🔍 Is any of this related? Who knows!

Round 2 of sharing time~ Snippet of upcoming chapter for JC Gets a Divorce AU
"Aiya! I wanted to see the academy again for nostalgia's sake. A-Líng’s there you know? I was hoping to see him and turns out he's friends with Jǐngyí so that worked out. He was mad you didn't show up though. Madder still when I made excuses for you. Just like his father, right? I can't catch a break."
"It's your fault because you won't just suck it up and talk to a-Jiě. What the fuck is wrong with you Wèi Wúxiàn?" Seriously.... SERIOUSLY!
For the first time since Wèi Wúxiàn trapezed back into Jiāng Chéng's life, he didn't have enough face to take the shame. All the light goes out him, and the bruises under his eyes become pronounced. "How would you tell her you never called because you knew she would talk you into returning?"
He feels glued to the ground. He feels like he's become a pillar holding up all the world. He can barely move, but what he can manage means he's straightening the cuff of his right sleeve. It's not a nervous tick. It isn't.
He has jaw pain trying to make the words leave his tongue and get past his teeth. "I would have let her. I would not have left."

Random MDZS Thought
Was Qin Su at the indoctrination camp? She's not that far apart in age from the rest of the cast, and we know that the Wens took more than just the Sect heirs (Su Minshan doesn't start his sect until after the Sunshot Campaign, there probably would have been more of an uproar if Luo Qingyang had been the heir when she left her sect, Wei Wuxian). She's also treasured enough by her family that Jin Guangyao stays married and doesn't kill her after the revelation that they're half-siblings lest he lose Qin Cangye's support. She might have been chosen as a hostage for that alone, even if she wasn't a high-level cultivator.
On the other hand, Jiang Yanli doesn't go and Qin Cangye is not the leader of a great sect. Or maybe they took Qin Su's half-brothers or something. We really don't know enough about her to say.
Anyway, I was thinking about some MDZS AU where Qin Su is at the indoctrination camp and Wang Lingjiao threatens to burn her face instead of Mianmian's. WWX still steps in and Qin Su ends up falling in love with him instead of Meng Yao. After the war, she pressures her family for an engagement and it goes through. (WWX is also the son of a servant, but at least Wei Changze was an honorable and talented one and the disciple of Baoshan Sanren is considerably higher ranked than a prostitute. Also, the Jiangs desperately need an alliance at this point and if WWX isn't going to help rebuild, Jiang Cheng can still use him to build prestige. And without competing with Jiang Cheng's own reputation too!)
The only less great thing about this AU is that it does raise the question if Mianmian defends WWX the first siege starts building up. It's not a nice thought, but the point about how she might not have bothered to speak up if he hadn't saved her at the indoctrination camp is valid. Would she think of him as a courageous defender of justice without that incident? Especially if she wasn't the potential victim?

I was rereading the creepy JFM au--specifically the WWX is pregnant before the marriage and isn't sure about the father post--and it says that the only thing Lan Yuan shares with his father is the regal arch of the Lan eyebrows. The thing is, JFM is a Sect Leader, so it's entirely possible that one of JFM's close ancestors (I was thinking his mother) was a high-ranking Lan with all of the Lan features. Features that were then + 1/2
+ Features that were then partially passed onto JFM including the Lan eyebrows. The Lan eyebrows, proving to the world that Lan Yuan is Lan Zhan's son, all the while proving nothing to those aware of the situation and causing even more tension for years to come. 2/2

He was able to keep Jiang Fengmian away the first month after Lan Yuan's birth. Lan Wangji took a not insufficient amount of petty joy when he told the Jiang sect leader that Wei Wuxian had requested only female visitors be allowed to see her. Of course he had done so while allowing himself, Jiang Wanyin, his brother, and his uncle into the Jingshi without a word. (He had sent Madam Yu a fine set of calligraphy brushes as a thank you for how she scolded her husband for 'pouting like a child over a young new mothers’ completely reasonable request'.)
However even he knew that he could not deny the man an invitation to his sons one month celebration. Not inviting one of the great sects would be seen as a great insult and it would become a political incident. It would also deny Wei Wuxian's siblings from coming to celebrate and break his wife's heart.
She was anxious and fearful in the days leading up to the celebration. He found her tracing her fingers over their sons’ tiny eyebrows every hour of the day. Each time he took her hand and kissed her fingers and promised that he would not leave her alone with that man ever again.
The celebration started off well. The receiving hall was decorated elegantly and Jiang Yanli had been happy to share some of Wei Wuxian's favorite Yunmeng recipes for the cooks to recreate. A'Yuan was delighted by the gold bracelets on his wrists and all the new faces around him. Wei Wuxian was in high spirits and laughing at the small mountain of gifts and red envelopes they received. Lan Wangji normally hated events like this with too many people who wanted to talk to him about pointless things, but now he proudly walked around and showed his son and wife off to everyone present. He stayed by his wife's side and Jiang Fengmian kept his distance.
It wasn't long after they had finished shaving A'Yuan's newborn hair away that an outer disciple named Su She approached and told him his grand uncle needed to speak with him alone.
"Don't worry, Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian said with a smile. "My feet are getting sore now so me and A'Yuan are going to sit down for a small rest. I'll be right here until you come back."
The thought of leaving his wife and child alone while Jiang Fengmian roamed around was unacceptable. "I will ask xiongzhang to stay with you until I return."
Wei Wuxian laughed at how silly he was, but he saw how her shoulders relaxed at his insistence.
Lan Xichen was delighted to stay by his sister in laws side until Lan Wangji returned. He’s told Lan Wangji that watching his little nephew has now become his favorite way to spend time.
It took far too long to find his grand uncle among the sizable crowd. The place Su She told him his grand uncle would be proved to be false. The longer it took the more his stomach tensed until it felt more like a stone. He reassured himself that he was just uneasy being away from his family.
His anxiety proved to be right when he found his grand uncle- who had not requested to speak to Lan Wangji alone at all. Lan Wangji could hardly get out an apology for the misunderstanding before he was rushing back to Wei Wuxian.
To his growing horror he finds his brother first - alone. Lan Xichen sees how upset he is and immediately starts to apologize and explain that an argument had started and he needed to mediate it. Lan Wangji didn’t care. He would have words with his brother later but Wei Wuxian being alone was more important.
Wei Wuxian is right where she said she would be. Sitting down, holding their son, pale as a ghost and not looking at Jiang Fengmian who was far, far too close for Lan Wangji’s liking. It looked like Wei Wuxian was trying to hide Yuan from the older man by holding him close and curling her body around him. Jiang Fengmian had his hand on her shoulder, leaning in to try seeing the baby better. Not having any luck, Jiang Fengmian lifted his hand to move the silk blanket Lan Yuan was wrapped in.
Lan Wangji was honestly shocked that he didn’t immediately drive his sword through Jiang Fengmian’s chest.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji wished that his voice had come out calm and composed, but it didn’t. His emotions were too wild to manage that.
Wei Wuxian stood and ran to his side without hesitation. “Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying choked out. Lan Wangji could now see just how close to tears she was. Lan Wangji could not hold back the vicious glare he threw Jiang Fengmian’s way. His anger only grew at the undeniably smug curl of the sect leaders lips.
“It seems that A’Xian has become tired from all of todays excitement,” Jiang Fengmian said pleasantly. As if he was a concerned father. As if he hadn’t spent years planning to ensnare Wei Ying. As if he hadn’t raped her for over a month!
Lan Wangji was very suddenly rethinking the value and merit of his clans rule against taking life.
“Sect leader Jiang,” Lan Xichen greeted. He very rudely cut in between them and began talking to the other man using social etiquette as his weapon. Lan Wangji loved his brother very much in that moment. There would still be words between them later for leaving Wei Wuxian’s side, but Lan Wangji knows deep down that he himself deserves a thousand times more blame for all of this.
He had promised not to leave her side. He told her he would protect her and she would never have to interact with Jiang Fengmian again. He had failed her so completely that he may never forgive himself.
Lan Wangji didn’t bother announcing the end of the celebration or addressing any of their guests to thank them like he should have. His brother would handle it. His only priority was getting Wei Wuxian and Lan Yuan to safety, far away from smug smiles and dark eyes.
The trip to the Jingshi seemed to both take an eternity and a few seconds at the same time. Wei Wuxian had began to quietly cry halfway there. He hadn’t seen her cry since their wedding night when she confessed that the baby may not be his.
Once inside the Jingshi, Lan Wangji held Wei Wuxian close. He waited until she was ready to tell him what had happened.
"He said..." she began before her voice broke. "He thanked me. For- For giving h-him a healthy son. Said he was proud...”
Lan Wangji felt rage fill his stomach like fire crawling up his spine and spreading through his body. That sick, twisted man dared to try laying a claim of his son and wife!
"He said- He-" Wei Wuxian let out a whimper that broke Lan Wangji's heart. "He said that Yuan h-has his mothers’ brows."
With that, Wei Wuxian's knees gave out and she would have collapsed to the floor if Lan Wangji hadn't been holding her. Their son, stressed from seeing his parents so upset, began to cry alongside his mother. Lan Wangji held the two of them in his arms as if that would be enough to keep them safe from the world.
It was a lie. It had to be a lie. Jiang Fengmian was a sick minded monster who saw what he wanted to see. He wanted to see Cangse Sanren when he looked at Wei Wuxian and he wanted to see his families features when he looked at Yuan. That's all it was. Just an unhinged man grasping at thin air to find a way to put a claim on their child. Lan Yuan is not that mans child.
Later he will tell Wei Wuxian this. He will tell her as many times as she needs to hear it. He will love her and their son and any child they have in the future with all his heart and never let anyone deny that they are his.
But for now he will hold them close while they cry and hate himself for failing to protect them.

follow up to [post] exploring the crack au if lwj was a girl
〒▽〒 ps im not trying to erase canon lwj representation, not at all, wangxian is mm in all my other fics, this is just stupid fun
in a ceteris paribus situation aka all other things staying equal:
1) Lan Wangji 100% still has a resting bitch face, which probably would get her a couple of “Lan-er-guniang 美若天仙 (beautiful as an immortal/goddess) but would benefit from smiling more” comments but nobody is that desperate to die yet so, she’s spared. But damn... imagine the sheer number of thirsty boys who’d try to secure a marriage with LWJ. None of them is good enough for Wangji as far as Lan Xichen is concerned. Okay - maybe in Lan Xichen’s opinion, Nie Mingjue is good enough, but he couldn’t be less interested. I see her as I see Huaisang, Xichen please.
2) Everything interaction between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian in Wei Wuxian’s first life is now 500% more scandalous.
Exhibit A) Their first meeting at the gates; Jiang Cheng immediately felt his spidey senses tingling.
—“You’d sooner have immortals flying out of your ass than get with someone like her. The second jade of Gusu? The pearl in old man Lan’s eyes? C’mon.”
—“Shut up, A-Cheng.”
—“Uh-huh.”
—“Also, she’s not that pretty. Her brother Zewu-jun is much better. There’s a reason he’s ranked first.” WWX is still a disaster bi.
— “LMAO, you? Zewu-jun? Please.”
Exhibit B) Just because LWJ is a girl does not mean WWX grew more brain cells.
WWX, straight up to Lan Qiren’s face, “Lan-meimei and I - we’re zhiji.” (he means it like we’re kindred spirits, peas of a pod, etc)
LWJ: *does not deny*

Exhibit C) Lan Wangji getting drunk the first time. Wei Wuxian knew he crossed a line the minute he invited Lan-er-guniang for a drink. Really, WWX, even for you, this is inappropriate. When Lan Wangji fell face first onto the table, Wei Wuxian knew, he fucked up. “Hey....hey...Lan....Lan...-er-guniang,” He poked her. “Don’t...don’t sleep here! You can’t sleep here! If your Uncle finds out or if Jiang-shushu finds out...they’ll skin me alive and then...and then they’ll make me marry you! I don’t want to marry you; you don’t talk and I’m too young!”
WWX, being a dipshit, “Hey Lan Zhan, call me Wei-gege.”
LWJ, drunk as fuck, “Wei..gege.”
WWX *((( heart )))* ???
Exhibit D) The Cold Pond. Okay, so I don’t think Zewu-jun would sabotage his sister’s virtue by sending a stupid teenage boy her way while she’s bathing, but doesn’t mean Su She is above all that. Wei “I didn’t see anything I swear!” Wuxian. Lan “I will gouge out your eyes.” Wangji. Somehow they still end up in the cave. Maybe WWX got in the water after LWJ got out and got sucked into the vortex and LWJ heard the commotion, turned around, saw WWX had disappeared. “Wei Ying?!” A panicked LWJ jumps back into the pond, “Stop fooling around, come out!”
Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing 👀👀 when LWJ and WWX fall out of the cave together. Also the fact that Lan-er-guniang and Wei-gongzi went missing, together, for two days. Who knows what could’ve happened. I mean anything really. I mean... that’s gotta stir the pot a little were it not for the Yin Iron stealing everyone’s attention away from this bit of juicy scandal.
Oh the whole story... so much to work with, so little time.
3) Because Lan Wangji is a girl, now suddenly there’s a high ranking member of the Lan Clan who can host the girls at Cloud Recesses. I mean, Mianmian, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, Lan Wangji - SISTERLY FRIENDSHIP. Other than Mianmian, none of the girls are really talkers which suits Lan Wangji perfectly. Even Mianmian’s chatter is endearing.
4) Lan Wangji is absolutely still a powerhouse during the Sunshot Campaign. The inherent aesthetics of fem!lwj telling the Wen goons to “kneel” - no one will deprive me of this. Also she will still cut off your arm if you cross her - Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao ya better watch out still.
I am TORN between two options: Lan Wangji tol and kickass or Lan Wangji smol and kickass. On one hand, the aesthetics of willowy elf-like LWJ, on the other hand, 5′2′’ of whoop ass who can and will throw an unconscious wwx over her shoulder firewoman-style and toll him to safety.
And amongst other things:
A) Lan Wangji still becomes Chief Cultivator, because excuse me who else is left to clean up this mess? Jiang “Short-fuse” Wanyin? Nie “I won’t do what I’m not intended to do” Huaisang? Jin “13 year-old” Ling? Or Sect Leader Yao? Technically, being a woman means that she was never Lan Xichen’s heir, but at the end of it, it’s not like Gusu Lan is left with a lot of choices. Just the poetic justice of Gusu Lan pleading for Lan Wangji to come back when she fully intends to 隐居山野 (retreat into the mountains) with the resurrected WWX.
Lan Wangji being Chief Cultivator would echo Lan Yi’s tenure and rectify the fact that Gusu Lan’s only female head of family “failed”. Lan Yi had to face a mountain of prejudice because she was woman; someone has to say “up yours” to that. A woman as not only the sect master of Gusu Lan but the Chief Cultivator? Love that for Gusu Lans. (⌐■_■) ☞ ☞
B) Because of ~ sexism ~ I wonder if Lan Wangji would get titled “Hanguang” at all even after the Sunshot Campaign. Even Lan Yi, the SL Lan of her time didn’t have a title. Chances are LWJ won’t either. (Note: Violet Spider is not a title, it’s a moniker). So — say after the way Lan Wangji is still just “Lan-er-guniang”, and she does not obtain the title “Han Guang” until after she leaves Cloud Recesses and become rogue. (srsly how did they come up with these titles in canon, did gusu lan just look at 21 year old lwj and be like yah he’s lord light bearer *cue trevor noah stand up joke* why do you call yourself “great” britain? isn’t that a bit presumptuous? shouldn’t you go around doing good things and then let other people come to the conclusion: oh britain look how great you are? same logic with lwj.)
Lan Wangji, a Jade of Gusu or a nameless rogue, still goes where trouble is, helping those who need it. After laying low for a year or two to heal, Lan Wangji began night hunting. Donned neck to ankle in white silk and tulle, and a weimao (wide brimmed veil hat) obscuring her face, she became known to the people as Hanguang Sanren, the lightbearing wanderer. Gusu’s highest power probably has some idea who she is - or at least they can guess - but the vast majority of people don’t.
C) Lan Sizhui raised by rogue Lan Wangji as his mum would be different. Still cultured, respectful, but definitely with an air of keeping others at arm’s length.
For instance, grown-up Sizhui running interference and saving a cohort of gentry disciples on joint hunts.
Jingyi: 这人谁呀？Who is this guy?
Zizhen: 多谢兄台搭救之恩，小可看您眼生，敢问兄台尊姓大名，何门何派，改日当登门拜访. Many thanks for saving us. I don’t believe we’ve met, pray tell what is your name and sect, so we may visit at a later time to thank you for tonight.
Sizhui: 在下无门无姓 ，单名思追 。举手之劳不足挂齿 ，怎敢劳烦各位名门子弟答谢。My name is Sizhui, belonging to no family and to no sect. As for tonight - I only did what anyone would; it bears no mentioning and requires no thanks.
Jin Ling: 你这人，看你工力不凡，想和你交个朋友，可你怎么遮遮掩掩的。Hey you, we see you’re a talented cultivator and want to make your acquaintance. Why are you so dodge-y?
Zizhen：金陵 — Jing Ling -
Sizhui: 若是有缘，还会相见。告辞。If it’s fated, we will meet again. Farewell.
Later:

Sizhui: 母亲的一位故人. Someone from Mother’s past.

I thought about how cute it would be if sizhui and jin ling knew each other but guys...Jiang Cheng literally thinks he killed Sizhui’s biological father. Like he literally thinks he orphaned Sizhui before Sizhui is even born. And Lan Wangji would never accept anything from Jiang Wanyin, not that it would stop Jiang Wanyin from trying.
A package of books here, a new robe for Sizhui there. Lan Wangji doesn’t know how Jiang Cheng keeps finding her. She and Sizhui are nomadic.
D) The inevitable conversation after wwx is revived.
You know what would be funnier than Jiang Cheng thinking Sizhui is a wangxian baby is if Lan Qiren thinks Sizhui is a wangxian baby.
