"scalpel."
you have no idea what your boyfriend is doing. you've been slumped over the dinner table for the past who-knows-how-long because studying has turned your brain to mush (you're in med school, that's the medical term, you swear). vernon hums to himself, and then you can feel his index finger trailing down your back as he makes his own sound effects in the form of a steady beep... beep... beep... to simulate a heart monitor. his fingers trail across your back, as though searching for something, and the "beep"s turn a little more frantic.
"vernon, what are you--"
"patient's getting better," he says, and then immediately goes back to those faster 'beep--beep--beep's. "i think. heart rate is increasing. that's good right?"
you don't answer, burying your face in your arms again. you can't let him see you smile. he'll know whatever he's doing is working, and you kinda wanna see where he's going with this. he grabs a fistful of the back of your shirt, letting go as he draws his hand away, still making those beeps.
"the surgery is a success..." he says. "i've removed the heart... i've saved the patient."
you turn your face. "baby. you can't live without a heart. i think the patient's dead."
"nah," his hands rest on your shoulders, already kneading at them. "i stole your heart and you're still alive--"
immediately, you let out the loudest groan--although whether it's out of disgust for the cheesy line or amusement because he managed to entertain you, he can't be sure. he thinks its a mix of both, actually--but it doesn't matter. you're smiling now, and that's what he set out to do.
he leans over you, pressing a quick peck against your forehead. "food's here, by the way. gotta support my future doctor somehow."
(you don't have the heart to tell him that making you laugh is always enough... and not because he stole it.)

There is something deeply funny to me about the fact that, of people who pray the rosary (at least in the United States); the Catholics tend to be super conservative, and the Episcopalians/Anglicans tend to be gay.

here's my stance on the situation! jayce sees potential in her. i don't think there's any attraction there, but i feel that the more they interact, the more they learn about each other: that's when cheating could happen. i feel that maybe his student would make the first move. maybe. she has a child, i'm assuming the father isn't present/sort of shitty and perhaps this is why she becomes attracted to jayce. she sees a stable, positive, handsome man and it creates yearning.
I mean even if Emalee's daddy is a good dude and involved (maybe he goes to Foxbury or some shit, just follow me for a second), Jay is serious about his music, especially his Coltrane (goes without saying) so she sees this passionate authority who genuinely cares about her success and Jay is clueless because, well... he just is. He's caught off guard and cinematically looks up from grading papers in his office and she's standing there with her shirt off.....

i fucking hate this game because they straight-up state why the phantom thieves' concept of "societal reform" doesn't work in the literal first chapter 😭 like yeah. yeah actually these things are issues within society and its structure, and removing the distorted desires of people like kamoshida or shido doesn't do shit in the long run, because it's an issue of structural inequality and the fact that not one, but an entire demographic of people allowing these things to happen. you remove kamoshida from the equation. fine. who's stopping something like that from happening again? clearly the school didn't give a shit about it as long as they could get away with it. without dismantling the system itself, it doesn't matter how many corrupt people you remove. the corruption is at the system's core. the cycle will just continue again. i hate to say KAMOSHIDA of all people has a point. but goddamn.

Have you ever imagined Eversnow in a modern AU or in some other known fictional universe? If so, who would they be?
I haven't really! I am working on a post-canon apocalypse fic for them which is sort of an AU since the world is so different.
My academic brain goes straight to thinking of a university AU, where Snow is the esteemed professor teaching a competitive advanced class on the history of fascism and the rumour in the student body is that though this guy is a brilliant mind he might just be a former high-up member of a fallen fascist state living under a new identity. And Katniss isn't even enrolled in the college, she's a homeless survivalist who lives in the woods near campus and starts crashing Snow's classes and picks arguments w him. Submits the most batshit essays but does all the reading. Snow knows she's not really a student and should not be there but her essays are the freshest and most insane things he's ever read (albeit w terrible spelling) and he becomes obsessed.
(Peeta's majoring in food science and Gale is a sociology major on an athletics scholarship)

Tens of thousands of public service workers are getting student loan relief from President Biden.
The Republican Supreme Court blocked Biden's broad effort to forgive onerous student loans. But the administration has found legal ways to reduce or eliminate student debt for specific segments of those saddled with such debts. This week's announcement is part of that effort.
President Joe Biden announced another round of student loan debt forgiveness Thursday, totaling $5.8 billion for nearly 78,000 public-sector workers, and will be sending congratulatory emails to those borrowers next week.
Additionally, 380,000 borrowers who may be eligible for debt relief within the next one or two years will also be getting emails from Biden with a message that says “keep it up!”
“If you continue your career in public service, you’re on track to get your eligible student loans forgiven in less than two years through Public Service Loan Forgiveness,” an example email provided by the White House reads.
Under the forgiveness program, known as PSLF, qualifying borrowers – like teachers, social workers, some nurses and doctors, and government lawyers – are eligible for student debt cancellation after making 10 years of monthly payments.
Republicans like Donald Trump are against debt forgiveness. Of course Trump is a nepo baby who got daddy to pay for everything including (probably) bribing admissions officers and paying others to do his course work for him.
Trump's attendance at Penn has been a source of controversy. The university would probably like him to just go away.
Penn rejects calls from Wharton professors to investigate Trump's SAT cheating allegations
Prominent Philadelphia lawyer Stephen Sheller also penned a letter to Gutmann and Board of Trustees Chair David Cohen requesting an investigation into Trump’s admission into Penn. Sheller, a 1960 College graduate and 1963 Penn Law graduate, did not receive a response.
Both requests, written a week apart in July, center around a claim made by the president’s niece Mary Trump in her tell-all book “Too Much and Never Enough.” She wrote that Trump paid another person, named as Joe Shapiro, to take his pre-collegiate exam, the SAT, on his behalf — a score he later used when transferring from Fordham University to the Wharton School in 1966.
The allegations resurfaced Saturday night when Mary Trump provided secretly recorded audio to the Washington Post which featured the president’s sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, saying Trump cheated on the SAT. Mary Trump sent the audio excerpts, recorded in 2018 and 2019, to the Post in response to a question asking how she knew Trump had someone take his SAT for him.
For filthy rich crooks, a degree is of little academic value. It's more like a badge for them to show off. They would like to discourage others from being able to say that they are in some way their equals.
