As part of Project CADMUS’ endless attempts for contingency plans and strategies against metahuman heroes and crime fighting vigilantes should they go rouge, The higher brass commission a restart to their highly effective cloning process with some modifications to their original design. In this case, create a clone at a younger age so they can be more easily swayed therefore controllable under their orders when the time arises. Futhermore, with hiring some mystics and magic based metas on their side, CADMUS was able to acquire DNA from Human turned Amazonian Warrior and Veteran Titans Member, Donna Hinckley Troy aka Troia.

After initial gestation which lasts about 5-6 months, the clone had by then developed into a young woman which bears a lot of resemblance to Donna albeit with some alterations due to the incorporation of other Amazonian DNA within her samples. Once she reaches an age resembling that of a 10 year old, by then thanks to the transference of all sorts of knowledge, from the basics about social skills including table manners, the learning of that English and Ancient Greek Languages, all the way up to the most advanced and complex of Amazonian combats techniques on the battlefield, the clone dubbed Subject 66 was finally released from her pod, to officially begin her training under CADMUS’ wing.

However, what the scientists at those hadn’t entirely counted on was Subject 66 exhibiting personality traits which actively questions and speaks against their goals for her, all of which conflict with her extraordinary emotions of free will and self empowerment. While they had managed some of the training they had in mind with positive results, CADMUS was overall unable to exactly control Subject 66, only reason she even cooperated with their training and what passed for their care was because at that time, she had nowhere else to go.

Enter Donna and her ‘sister’ Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Sandsmark aka Wonder Girl. During an extensive battle against routine Titan nemeses The HIVE/Fearsome Five, the secret laboratory CADMUS was operating in that contains Subject 66 was discovered by an errant Donna being tossed right into its walls, crashing though the complex and down to the vault which led to the Subject’s living quarters. She hadn’t found enough to notice her clone though as Donna immediately rushed back into the battle right out of the building. Subject 66 however noticed her ‘bedroom’ vault was wide open, allowing her to fly out of there to delicate her freedom since that the CADMUS personnel had left in a massive hurry. Once finally outside the building complex after so long, Subject 66 saw the battle between the two Wonder Girls and the HIVE/Fearsome Five, so far the battle not going so well for the Wonders. Just Donna was pinned to the street floor and about to receive a nasty looking face punch from Mammoth, suddenly the fist is caught midway through. Donna peaks an eye opening, revealing a lone girl with jet black hair with golden streaks, clad in a grey and black bodysuit with both her hands on Mammoth’s fist, holding it there with immense super strength but delivering an uppercut to the villain, sending him flying to the complete outskirts of the city, shocking much of the HIVE and allowing Cassie and Donna to gain the edge; ultimately winning the battle and saving the day.

Shortly after the HIVE are apprehended by the Bludhaven PD, Subject 66 is immediately taken to Titans Tower, making formal introductions about what she knows about herself to the Titans and their adjacent Young Just Us team. It’s here thanks to DNA testing from Victor Stone aka Cyborg the Subject learns of her genetic progenitor being none other than Donna herself, a decision that no doubt would be a major shock but Donna, being the compassionate and rational woman she is, would take sympathy with this clone of hers, valuing her as her person and understanding her feelings for freedom. This especially gets prominent once Amanda Waller, Head of CADMUS and flanked by her Task Force X, arrives later on that day with the demands to get Subject 66 back under their custody.

Donna and Subject 66 however are insistent and persuasive with Waller; a back and forth that goes for about 1 hour and with the ultimatum that should the Subject being taken by CADMUS, the Titans won’t be afraid to reveal their many dirty secrets of all sorts of misbehavior to the public, Waller eventually backs down and allows Subject 66 to stay with the Titans and Donna in particular. Once the helicopter leaves the roof, Subject 66 gives a major hug to Donna in thankfulness for allowing her to stay with them, a hug Donna gives right back.

Over the course of the next few months, with weekly visits to Themyscira for enhancing and perfecting her training with the Amazons alongside Cassie in particular, forming a sort of mentor and mentee bond between them, forging her own custom made outfit heavily patterned after both Donna and Cassie’s while making it her own and meeting and befriending with the son of Donna’s close friend Nightwing, Jakand’r/Jake Grayson aka Skybird along his best friend Christopher Grayson Kent aka Nightwing Phantom, The clone also develops close bonds and connections with Donna and her birth son Robbie Long aka Darkstar, eventually also gaining a new civilian name once her adoption papers are fully completed: Penelope Haney Troy, ‘Penny’ for a nickname.

With that, she then declares her newfound crime fighting superhero identity of Hoplite, named after the elite warrior classes of many Ancient Greek city states, in particular Sparta. Also a proud de facto apprentice of Wonder Girl who Penelope looks up to as a de facto Aunt.

Genjutsu is so underused in the series, it's a crime (totally not still salty about the potential for Sakura to be a genjutsu user and the potential themes that would bring to her arcs)

So, any more detailed ideas for the kinds of illusions yoir oc would use? Any favourites? How do the poisons play into them? Are they causing hallucinations? Making the illusion easier to apply? The means of finishing an opponent trapped in an illusion?

Yea genjutsu is so underused in the series!! A crime truly.

Kaori’s illusions can range between realistic to fantastical, mainly depending on what the circumstances are. Her favorites are of course the more crazy ones HAHAHAHA!! But I imagine she uses the more realistic illusions more. They tend to be centered around plants and flowers, but studying under Anko snakes become a factor as well.

The poisons can either enhance or even cause the illusions in her opponents. They’re much more effective when they’re injected with her senbon, but she does learn how to infuse gas poisons as well.

Her go to illusions and poisons tend to be ones that cause paralysis or knock her opponents out. She has low stamina, so she tries to make up for that by trying to knock out her opponents quickly (which is the opposite of chihiro’s typical strategy of wearing her opponents out).

Finishing off her opponents usually consists of trapping them in a genjutsu that sends them into a coma, or the illusions become so powerful that even a simple push or poke from her will cause her opponents to believe they’re being fatally wounded.

Taking inspiration from the Souls series signature level of challenge and atmosphere, Lies of P also adds its own unique flavour and atmopshere to define it as a brilliant stand alone game from the new developers Neowiz.

A game that embarks on a journey that makes you thread between a line of truth or lie. Deception can be an adversay but also an ally. The game elevate the essence of player agency. We navigate the world as the line of truth or illusion is as blurred as the boundaries of customization itself. We'll look deeper into the factors of why Lies of P emerges as a commendable chapter in the RPG fromsoft formular.

The DNA of the Lies of P is what makes the game a kin to the Souls series. The twisted dystopian landscapes, where intricate and deeply woven levl design meets immersive and atmospheric storytelling. Each unique setting feels like its own individual nightmare that we have to carefully traverse and encounter the abomintions that wait for us in the shadows. From the Barren Swamps, to the deserted streets of Krat, the Grand Exhibiton hall to the Cathedral Library, Each location has it's own distinctive, colour palette, enemy variety, weapons to be discovered and grotesque bosses to be faced. The eerie echoes of Souls are there, but with a mischievous grin.

Perhaps the most standout feature in the Souls games are their anxiety inducing, rage producing, challenging boss fights. Lies of P takes the boss battles to a whole new level, one that can match the efforts produced of the Souls series. Lies of P unleashes a rogue gallery of creatures that'll make your jaw drop, eyes widen and not just because they are grotesquely unique. These bosses are a twisted canvas of artistry, like our worst nightmares being brough to life before our very eyes, with a splash of psychedelic flair.

Each boss battle starts off as a mere enigma. Who are they? What are they? The fight is a convaluted puzzle, a wicked masterpiece demanding players to watch their every move, decoding their attack patterns like a gamer detective. Each fight isn't just button mashing, it's a dance strategy. Dodge dodge attack, block dodge roll, attack dodge attack, one badly timed slash from a misread move and face the damage that these goliaths can inflict upon you. It's a dance of strategy, where mastering the rhythm to each grotesque spectacle is the key to victory. There will be blood and there will be death, but the sweet taste of completion is a thrill and a compelling emotion for the player. By the end not only do you know your enemy inside out from an attacking point of view, you also understand who they are , or who they once were and their place within this dystopian nightmare of Krat.

Another key component within the game that adds to it's incredible attention to detail and it's loveletter to the soulsbourne games, is through its very thorough weapon and ability customization. The games meticuous detail allows the player to fine tune their weapons and abilities including the weapons handle and P's puppet arm to personalize their arsenal that complements their desired playstyle. This not only enhances the players immersion in the combat but also also fosters strategic depth. Players can adapt and change their playstyle to cater against different enemies and expose their weaknesses. Do you want to spend your points on vitality and vigor to increase your health and stamina allowing you to fight more aggressively with a more lightweight weapon that deals less damage but in faster swings. Or will you prioritize your Motivity and advance stats, allowing you to play more passive with heavier weapons, waiting for your moment to strike and then dealing a ton of damage with one or two heavy swings.

The well crafted player abilites add a further layer of complexity to the game, ensuring a dynamic and engaging playing experience. The creative and diverse synergy between the weapon customization and player abilites , contribues to the overall excellence of the game, giving each individual player their own diverse and dynamic experience, offering multiple playstyles.

The compelling story within Lies of P is captivatin due to it's very intricate plit, multidimensional characters and thematic depth. At its core the story revolves around the protagonist, 'Pinochio' or as within the universes law, 'P' . His past and origin story begins as an enigma, his complex and mysterious motivations drives the plot forward. He insists on aiding the residents of Hotel Krat, yet we are not fully convinced why. P's journey is rife with moral ambiguity. Do you lie to someone by showing compassion and therefore embracing the human that has sparked inside you, or do you tell the truth, comfirming to the roles and code of which a puppet must obey. Each decision shapes for story for better of for worse.

The world we navigate is one where trust is a commodity and never guaranteed. Allicances are constantly shifting. Do you make yourself a new friend or foe? This ambiguity adds constant tension and suspense, that keeps the players guessing who just might betray you next.

The supporting cast of charcaters are equally as compelling, each with their own agendas to strive towards and secrets to locked away shut. These often intersect with P's own quest for the ultimate truth behind the tragedy that has struck Krat. Many interactions that allowed you to tell the truth often meant you would deliver a harsh truth to a lost and desperate resident of Krat. Lying however would offer them a sense of blissful ignorance. The unresolved ending invites speculation and contemplation, allowing readers to draw their own conclusions about P's fate and the overall meaning of the journey.

Alternatively, the story may end with a definitive resolution that ties up many loose ends and provides us with a closure to the narrative arc. In this ending, you choose not to give your heart to Geppeto but instead confront him and make him understand that you are a puppet no more, but a real boy with a real heart and soul. This ending offers some clarity regarding P's fate and the ultimate outcome for his quest for truth as well as tackling his personal demons and transitioning into a human. It emphasizes the themes of redemption and revelation and the triumph of deception and morality over the truth. Only the human mind can understand the deeper meaning of deception.

Honkai Star Rail (HSR) is the latest Mihoyo game released within 2023, and players are immensely enjoying both the game, and the new game experience. However, like everything in life, HSR does has its pros and cons.

To explore those areas, I will be comparing HSR with its sister game, Genshin Impact (Genshin). The reason is because the game mechanics are similar to that of Genshin, hence comparing them seems reasonable. However, I will only be touching on the features lightly since HSR is still an infant at this point. Comparing a toddler to a teenager does not seem fair.

I also have to preface that in no way is this post meant to discriminate either games. This post is just to explore what are the game features and mechanics present in HSR and Genshin.

1️⃣ Movement features

Okay, this is the most obvious and the first thing that will definitely come to everybody’s minds.

First of all, I understand why HSR does not have a gliding feature in the game (for now) as the game is set in space. And even if there is, it most likely will be redundant to copy exactly as Genshin. HSR is set in a futuristic/cyberish setting. If there were to be gliders, I think jet packs strapped to the body, or boots enhancement to make the characters fly like Iron Man would make more sense.

Secondly, climbing. I have to admit, I don’t really see any potential need to climb in HSR... Imagine climbing inside Herta’s Space Station. Like, where on earth would you climb to?

Thirdly, HSR characters can’t jump. This is very hilarious. HSR characters can’t jump. That is the most basic movement feature that should be included in every game. I don’t really understand why the developers did not let HSR characters jump. Players who experienced this started poking fun of HSR by making short videos of Genshin characters being able to jump.

And finally, sprinting. I have to say that HSR sprint is a lot better than Genshin. There is no stamina bar that limits your sprinting in HSR. You can sprint as long as you want in the game.

2️⃣ Battle Mechanics

This is another obvious difference between the two games. HSR provides a new battle experience by introducing turn-based battle. In a turn-based battle, characters each take turns to deliver an action (attack, defend, withdraw etc.) and receive damage from the enemies. The good news about turn-based games is that they are generally one of the easiest strategy and attack games. The bad news... well, it’s Mihoyo.

Both game battle types has its good and bad. In Genshin, players may struggle during battles if they do not build and use the politically correct team composition. However, it is still possible to overcome the battle with the “wrong” team composition as the battle mechanics does not restrict you to waiting for a turn. In other words, you can attack with a fire element, and quickly follow up with an electric element, apply healing effects to your character, and apply a shield afterwards. Those actions continuously applies damage to your enemies. And all of this could happen within a few seconds.

On the other hand, turn-based games requires you to think strategically on how you should attack and/or defend, and even consider withdrawing from the battles. Think of it like a game of chess. Both players take turns to move their pieces, but at the same time, they have to ponder quickly and wisely on what their next move should be so that they could win the game.

In most of the turn-based games I have played, the sequence you place your characters in the team usually isn’t the biggest issue; it is the attack power your team has. The same can be said for HSR. The attack power of your characters in the team makes a difference to whether you can survive the battle. In my experience (with other turn-based games), my strongest characters would always be able to carry me through majority of the game.

As mentioned earlier, the sequence in which your characters are placed in the team for turn-based games isn’t usually an issue. However, in HSR, it is.

The reason is because in each battle, whoever is placed on the extreme left end of your team will be the first to attack, followed by the second, third, and the fourth. If we use the picture above as an example, it means that when a HSR battle begins, Bronya will be the first attacker, followed by March, then yourself (Kiwi), and finally Serval. After one round, the sequence repeats.

During a HSR battle, there is no way for you to switch your other characters in the team. Meaning if it is Bronya’s turn to attack, but you want to switch straight to Serval, you cannot do it. The only time you are allowed to “skip” to Serval is if you use Serval’s ultimate skill. Afterwards, it goes back to Bronya, or March, depending if you have already used Bronya’s attack prior to utilizing Serval’s ultimate skill.

3️⃣ Healing

There are a couple of ways to heal in Genshin. The first is to visit a Statue of the Seven. The second way is to use your healing characters. The third way is to stuff your dying characters with healing food.

Visiting the Statue of the Seven during a battle is possible, it disrupts the battle and when the player returns, they will have to start from the beginning again. This is why many players in Genshin tend to stock up on healing food and place a healing character in the team. If one of their characters is dying during the battle, the players can use either the healing food midway through the battle, or just apply their healing characters’ healing skill to heal their dying characters.

In HSR, while we do have a healing character, it can be difficult to receive heals from her during the battle. As mentioned in the previous point, each action in a turn-based battle is considered as an action. Once that action has been taken, the game will move on to the next character or enemy. Hence, letting Natasha, the only healer in the game, to help provide healing during the battle is something that all players has to consider.

Now, I am not saying that players should not equip healers into their team; healers are great assets to teams especially when encountering tough battles. But players should make wise decisions when equipping healers. Not only do they take up a slot in your team’s 4 character space, they most likely do not provide much damage.

Moreover, the high damage dealers may perish earlier before the healer could heal in turn-based games. While they are great assets, my personal recommendation is to focus on making your team as strong as possible. Healers should be considered the last resort to add into the team.

4️⃣ The system features

Players who has played Genshin will have an easier time navigating their way through most of the system features in HSR. Most of it is very similar to Genshin’s system layout.

Given that Genshin is not HSR, it is understandable for HSR to adopt other monikers for their respective system features. But I feel that some of the names are quite confusing.

One of those confusing names is the cooking. In Genshin, it’s simply called cooking. In HSR, it’s called Synthesizing.

I hope as time goes by I will get more used to HSR’s system features. But I also hope that the developers of HSR make it as simple as Genshin.
