“BREATHLESS WOMAN” was inspired by my infatuation for mid– 20th century US propaganda films; notably their sensationalist portrayal of mental illnesses shown in hospital patients, along with the archaic methods of effectively catering to their individual needs.

the vocals were sourced from a segment of an interview involving a woman diagnosed with a depressive disorder, wherein she discusses her traumas in relation to the predatory sexual abuse administered by a paternal figure during her youth. what captivated me was the woman’s emotional demeanor—depicting a confidence seemingly rooted by Apathy, almost as if she possessed a forbiddance in allowing these abhorrent events to tarnish her definitive Self. an absolute refusal of retroactive frailty. perhaps the significance in acknowledging our own Self-Worth.

It can be so isolating working on sound design and having few people that I know want to hear me ramble about it.

There's so much love and joy and passion that I put into everything I do with this. Not an ounce of it feels forced or like I'm not trying enough. There's this part of me that just wants to talk about all those joys.

I get lonely running a show by myself. That's why I'm glad I have such a wonderful cast that stepped up and wanted to be involved. It makes things a lot easier.

Sometimes I just want to drone on about things I do with sounds to somebody, but I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea.

After leaving my studio one recent evening, I stopped by a nearby Lidl on the way home. I felt something electric in the night air, compelling me to return to the studio to pick up a tripod and explore the industrial estate on the far side of the railway tracks.

Usually deserted after businesses close, I expected to have the area to myself, but a few distant cars cruised in the mist/drizzle and a group of men clutching bottles passed furtively, talking about religion.

I listened keenly for the sound of muffled beats, hoping to discover an elicit warehouse rave, but there was little but the distant sigh of traffic on the nearby bypass.

So the accompanying soundtrack to these photographs is a stumble through Korean shoegaze, dream pop, post-punk and electronica before getting lost in a Balearic house party.

I might not be able to share any WIP of the project I'm currently working on but I can share the soundscape I'm listening to that fits the biome it's focused on. I imagine myself camping along a ridge overlooking the landscape, sketching the day's travels.

This is one of my favorite things to do to help me focus on what I want the map to convey and sort of gets me into character. Do have I have scented candle lit to match the mood? Damn right I do!

Do I also have a "fire flickering" lamp on my desk to give that campfire feel? Yes, yes I do.

Do I have a fan blowing on me to mimic the desert wind? No, because that shit gets annoying but when the thermostat kicks on I imagine it's the wind picking up.

The Isolation Tapes Part 12 - I heard it on the radio, Vol 9

I'm not sure how many more of these I will end up making... I mean, I will still be aimlessly throwing my mediocre mixtapes in to the online void, but the whole 'Isolation Tapes' thing as a title is pretty much redundant now. I will still be playing my favourite tracks I've heard, or artists I've been introduced to, from BBC6Music's playlist though, as they still consistently play the best selection of music around. As always, a mix of jazz, breaks, soundscapes, hip-hop, funk, blues, electronica, and a few others that really don't fit in to any discernible mould. But yeah might do one more after this to round off on an even number, but feel the need for a change soon.... Dunno' why I'm writing all this shit though; just press play and get on with it yeah?
