i feel like the thing with destiel is that i do like it, but only when the full extent of how complicated and codependent and toxic it can get is explored. and a lot of the fanon content for it (and hell, even some of the later actual canon content) waters it down a lot. like even if we just want to talk about the original season 4 and 5 destiel dynamic, their asses did NOT have a healthy relationship

cas was still reeling from the fact that he was serving an uncaring god and the angels who were in power in heaven wanted to bring forth the apocalypse and end everything. and dean had to deal with the weight and pressure of being michael's true vessel. and his interactions with cas only highlighted the enormity of what he had to do and made him feel worse about everything. even before cas fell and rebelled against heaven he was constantly expressing his doubts about how capable dean really was. and that got even worse when cas fully committed to helping him and sam stop the apocalypse

to be clear i don't think cas' level of devotion to dean is necessarily a bad thing but in that specific context, in that situation, it did create a kind of fucked up dynamic. because dean did ask cas to help him but that also means he has to see in real time the consequences of that decision and he feels guilty about it. does anyone remember that time dean was going to let michael possess him and he drafted up what was essentially a suicide note and everything, and then cas found out and beat him up for it because he was so pissed that he gave up everything just for dean to throw in the towel? that was peak destiel to me. or shit like cas knowingly destroying sam's mind and killing thousands of angels only for dean to tell him that he's still family and forgive him. theyre fucked up let them be fucked up

The way Destiel makes me physically sick… all that buildup, all that character development, the angst, the feels - just to end. It was right there, but then they just haaaad to kill Cas? Yes, the parallels and the cinematography and the acting is out of this world and it HURTS - having Dean go through losing him one last time, unable to do ANYTHING, not even having a body left behind… being completely broken but finishing off the big guy anyway… being lost and then DYING ON A FUCKING HUNT CAUSED BY LOOSE ENDS FROM FUCKING JOHN and telling Sam to let him go and tell him it’s okay, only to go to heaven and hear about his parents when all he wanted was Cas. And they deserved so much more and I just arghhh it makes me so sad because it’s so beautiful, but it makes me so unbelievably angry. We deserved to have Cas come back to save Dean at the last second. Breaking all the rules. We deserved to see them happy in heaven. Dean breaking free from the mental chokehold his father had of him and letting himself be happy with Cas. Anything.

just finished 10.14. the way dean basically was able to kill cain and not immediately go crazy was the threat of losing his little brother? of murdering him? and then when he comes out of that fight, the second crowley leaves and he can be vulnerable, he collapses into his brother’s arms?? crying more weakly than we’ve ever seen him before? and even tho he seems to be taking it well, when cas asks sam how dean is doing, sam looks super worried and says he’s in trouble. because he knows. just from a look, dean’s mannerisms changing, whatever. sam can tell dean is in deep shit even though they never discussed it at all. because they have a deep unspoken relationship that enables them to communicate without ever saying a word. because they know each other better than anyone else in the world. excuse me while i go scream

i think what we have to learn from midam arguably being supernatural’s healthiest relationship is that we need to put dean and castiel in a box and not check on them for 1000 years

We need to talk about Sex And Violence (4x14)

In an interview with Jim Parrack(Nick’s actor), he talks about the way the siren controlled the boys and says this:

“…I thought he should be ambiguously sexual. As the FBI agent, he was a guy’s guy, but this creature wasn’t a guy or girl. I tried to find something in between and enjoyed having control over these boys in a sexual way…”

He outright describes his control of the boys as sexual. In the scene in the car with Nick & Dean, he convinces Dean to kill sam so they can be brothers. Theres a sinister but sensual tone throughout that scene that is intensified as it transitions to the hotel.

“…I gave him what he needed. And it wasn’t some bitch in a G-string. It was you…”

There was something very evocative when I first heard this line. I think that it says a lot that a siren, a creature that reads minds and embodies peoples greatest desires, found that what dean desired most wasn’t a beautiful woman, but his brother. Sam is what he desires most.
