YN Olivia Tomlinson, born on the 13th of April, 1994, is an English hair stylist and fashion influencer. She is also the founder of the fashion company, Styles Fashion.

YN was born and raised in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Her older brother is singer Louis Tomlinson. She was raised with Louis and four younger sisters: Charlotte, Félicité, and twins Phoebe and Daisy. Her parents divorced in 2011. YN has two younger siblings, twins Doris and Ernest, who were born in 2014, from her mother's relationship with Dan Deakin.

Like her brother, YN attended The Hayfield School and later on Doncaster College where she studies Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, which are both located in Doncaster.

YN began travelling with her brother, Louis and boyfriend, Harry on tour with their band One Direction when she 18 as the band's hair stylist and make up artist Lou Teasdale's assistant. She worked as Lou's assistant from 2013 until 2015, during their Take Me Home Tour, Where We Are Tour and On the Road Again Tour, and for the bands promotional appearances during those years.

In 2016, she collaborated with several fashion brands including ASOS, Adidas and Zara. Later in the year, YN debuted the collaborative clothing collection with Adidas, where her brother Louis and boyfriend Harry both attended.

In 2017, YN released her first book, Styles: Fashion By Me. The book includes over 50 different fashion outfits and styles. A year later in 2018, YN launched Styles Fashion, her own company and clothing line, including clothing items that she designed herself. In June 2019, alongside her sister Lottie, she released a collaboration collection with fashion brand In the Style.

YN began dating her brother's bandmate, Harry Styles, in 2011. The couples relationship was exposed after a photo was taken of them kissing, at Harry's childhood's friend party. Despite their relationship, it is still clear that Harry and Louis's friendship has remained strong.

Speculations began that the pair may have split in 2018 when YN did not attend Harry's Manchester or London dates during his Live On Tour show. The pair were not seen together until December 2018, when YN posted a photo on her Instagram of the pair at her family's home in Doncaster.

In 2019, Harry released his studio album Fine Line, where fans were quick to conclude that the couple did in fact split the previous year. The album is a mixture of happy and sad times that the couple experienced and Harry said in his interview with Zane Lowe "The times when I felt good and I felt happy, we're the happiest I've ever felt in my life, and the times I felt sad was the lowest I ever felt in my life". In the same interview, Harry also confirmed that the voice played at the end of the track Cherry is YN, which was from 2014 when she was trying to learn how to speak French.

YN has featured in some of Harry's music video's, including Lights Up, Watermelon Sugar, Adore You, Treat People with Kindness, As It Was, Late Night Talking and Daylight.

After the loss of her mother and sister, YN has been open about her anxiety and has since been an advocate for mental health and currently is an ambassador, alongside her sister Lottie, for the bereavement charity, Sue Ryder.

Following the announcement of her sister, Lottie's, pregnancy in 2022, YN launched a maternity clothing line, quoting in her interview "My sister begged me to start working on maternity clothes as soon as she found out she was pregnant...how could I say no?".

YN has joined Harry on his Love On Tour tour, from 2021-2023. Harry announced during one of his Wembley shows that he had proposed to YN at the venue that very same day. Despite being on a world tour, YN still used her platforms to work in partnership with brands, but most importantly, provide the fans with the updates they wanted.

The 1996 Mercury Music Prize. Pulp got the gong, the wonga went to War Child and Jarvo’s eyes went funny!

Primal Scream, Suede, M People, Portishead... The past winners of the Mercury Prize are as varied as the day is long. “And cursed,” according to Mr Jarvis Cocker. Tough luck that Pulp won then.

The awards themselves were mild affair. Lots of suits from record companies stared at Bryan Ferry. (Sitting at a table with his old Roxy Music mucker, Brian Eno.) People toasted the greatness of the music industry, and astounding leaps in telecommunications.

And not very many pop stars showed their faces: both the Manic Street Preachers and Oasis were across the pond, unable to attend, and there was surprisingly little celebrity hanger on action.

Though there were a few live ‘turns’ Underworld and Black Grape didn't play on account of the tricky nature of their life performance. Presenter Richard Jobson – cut out of the BBC coverage - read from an auto cue and didn't make any jokes.

Pulp spent the evening enjoying the bountiful champagne wine on offer and trying to get their mates into the dinner. They didn't think they had a chance of winning, although they weren't saying who they thought would. Shaun Ryder was surrounded by girls wanting his autograph for most of the time, looking rather chuffed with the whole affair. His money, he said, was on Pulp taking home the gong.

Norma Waterson, Select’s favourite Brit-folk chanteuse sat and ate her grub, not fulfilling her ambition to meet Jarvis. He kept nipping around anyway. Brian Eno table-hopped. (Perhaps Bryan Ferry had said something nasty about his nose.) Underworld scoffed, drank lager and cheered their own video.

Finally, after the caviar, or quiche for the vegetarians, the winner was announced. A shiver went down Pulp’s collective spine. They weren't kidding when they went up to receive their award, they gave the money, £25,000 to War Child and tried to fob the award off on someone else.

Jarvis refused to touch it, claiming he'd be doomed if he did. “Everyone goes crap after they've won it,” he said. Guitarist Mark Webber picked it up, and Cocker convinced him he'd been jinxed. In spite of such bad vibery, Island Records had the astounding foresight to book a couple of hotel rooms so that Pulp could have a party into the small hours (Robbie Williams turned up ‘specially).

But Jarvis still didn't know why they were celebrating. Mark Webber agreed: “We've been trying to give the award away all night, then we thought of all the bands we'd like to give it to who should be jinxed,” he said before disappearing into the thick of the booze up.

While she's correct that most real DV survivors don't have as much evidence as she does, why compile five years' worth of evidence? While it's true that it has been statistically proven that some survivors take up to seven attempts to leave their abusers, you're telling me that while you were being beaten frequently during this extended period of time that you always had the presence of mind to collect evidence during and/or afterwards? To make sure each and every single incident (that you allege happened) is documented?

And then on top of it, when you do have evidence it's this kind of evidence?

And evidence of your reported injuries are photos that a digital forensic expert testified had gone through photo editing software consistent with your phone type, are testified as to happening by your friends and sister, and TMZ sporadically caught you coming out of the courthouse after filing a TRO and photographed for you?

Not to mention:

a video that has you setting up the camera and laughing edited out as testified by a former TMZ employee who received the video you sent (yep, you sent it, they wouldn't be copyright owners otherwise, not to mention your text message confirming it)

audio recordings that confirm you are the abusive party 99% of the time (that can be proven 100%) while JD was actually trying to get away from you

an ex-fling of his who testified at the time of their involvement that she saw JD throw a bottle but it wasn't directed at her

text messages where JD expresses his anger at everything you have put him through (are they disgusting and some horrid? absolutely; do people who have gone through this type of abuse before get that you are basically driven to the edge of your sanity every single day? yep)

This has been one big setup from the beginning. She keeps mentioning JD's "power" and "support" because she wants it for herself and she's angry she doesn't have it, a fact that is driven home each time she is reminded of people coming out to support him, like Kate Moss. Like Winona Ryder (whose name she didn't want on JD's body if you remember). Like Vanessa Paradis. Like his sister who was his personal manager. Like Eva Green. Like Angelina Jolie. Like all of the other ex-girlfriends and people who have come out in support of him. Like the public. She hates that and it shows each time she's asked about others' testimonies in this case that aren't in her interest.

That's why she makes sure to mention how all of this has affected her career and how she now faces threats every day. She wants your sympathy, she wants your belief, and she wants the table tilted towards her.

Think past JD. She became close friends with James Franco, another actor who at the time was a hot ticket. More than likely, that's why Elon Musk came into the picture. Hell, I bet had he proposed, she would have accepted. (and don't think it didn't burn her when she saw the Twitter deal either) That's why you didn't see her dating some TV actor or screenwriter or some average Hollywood Joe/Jane. She wanted someone with power, prestige, and money, and all three in Hollywood. She even testified herself to how abundantly generous JD was when they started dating, when they met, etc. She saw it all and she knew.

The question is, just how early on did she form this plan? The claims of abuse, I mean, and the evidence gathering.

Like she said herself: Five. Years.

That's an awfully long time to collect evidence for what she thought would be a solid case. To keep him in line should he ever step out of it. She wanted to latch her wagon to his and be propelled into super-stardom.

Five. Years.

And that's fucking evil.

After Five Months of Strained Ties, US Admits Chinese Balloon Did Not Collect Information

After repeated hyping of the so-called Chinese spy balloon incident for nearly five months, the Pentagon on Thursday admitted the airship did not collect any information, not to mention send any data back to China. This is an objective result that should be welcomed, but it came too late, as the incident has damaged mutual trust, totally changed the environment for communication between China and the US, and caused the two sides to miss a better time to restore relations, Chinese experts said.

Analysis of debris collected from a Chinese balloon drifting into the sky over the US and shot down by the latter in February showed that "it did not collect [any information] while it was transiting the US or over flying the US" despite that it "had intelligence collection capabilities," Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Pat Ryder told media on Thursday.

A Chinese balloon spent a week in February flying over the US and Canada before it was shot down by a fighter jet off the Atlantic coast, on orders from President Joe Biden. Although Chinese authorities reiterated that the balloon was a civilian weather balloon, some US media and hawkish politicians continued to hype it as a spy balloon, underscoring the increasing tensions between the world's two largest economies.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press conference on Friday that China has reiterated on many occasions that the Chinese civilian airship drifting into the sky over the US was an unintended, unexpected and isolated event caused by force majeure. Calling the airship a "spy balloon" and claiming it is used to collect intelligence is total slandering and smearing, Mao stressed.

Citing some anonymous officials, a Wall Street Journal report on Thursday claimed that the balloon was found to be carrying some American-made equipment helping it to collect photos, videos and other information. Ryder did not confirm the report on Thursday when he announced the result of the Pentagon's analysis.

The Pentagon's brief announcement on Thursday showed that the US, or at least the US' defense department, is trying to close the chapter on the incident as it must have realized that the facts are slapping them in the face, Lü Xiang, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Friday.

"We should welcome the move, but I have to say that it is far from enough. The US hyping damaged the basic mutual trust between China and the US and set a bad precedent in dealing with a foreign country's civilian facility by using the military to shoot down the balloon. They should express regret for the decision," Lü said.

The balloon incident fundamentally changed the atmosphere between the two countries. Blinken postponed a reported visit to Beijing. This led to a delay in the progress of China-US interactions of about five months for no good reason, which is very unfavorable given the already high tension between the two countries, Lü noted.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was said to have been planning a diplomatic trip to China before the balloon incident, but reportedly postponed the plan soon after it occurred. The trip was rescheduled and Blinken visited Beijing in June.

However, the US Department of Defense's Defense Security Cooperation Agency on Thursday approved new arms sales to Taiwan worth $440 million. The arms package is to include 30mm ammunition, spare parts for wheeled vehicles and other items, according to media reports. This is the 10th arms-sales package to Taiwan made under US President Joe Biden.

China urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués, stop selling weapons to Taiwan island, stop creating factors that lead to tensions in the Taiwan Straits and stop damaging the peace and stability in the region, Mao Ning said in response to the deal at the Friday press conference.

The US is building Taiwan island into a powder keg and ammunition depot. This is not "protecting" or "defending" the island but damaging and ruining it, the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council said Friday, slamming the deal.

Earlier this week, a US bipartisan congressional delegation led by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers landed in Taiwan for a three-day visit.

We must face the fact that US diplomacy will continue to show a character of being two-faced, as it views China as a main strategic opponent and will not change its strategy of containing China before it regains an absolute advantage over China, Lü said.

The Chinese central government must have become aware of this and is making adjustments in its strategy in the Taiwan Straits and the South China Sea to maintain China's practical control of the regions amid the US' provocation, Lü pointed out, citing China's firm actions in the Taiwan Straits since last year including large-scale military drills and the flying of fighter jets across the so-called median line of the Taiwan Straits, which the Chinese mainland had declared a non-existent concept.

Some experts expect more windows of opportunity in China-US relations to open after US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was reported to be planning a trip to China in early July, but they also warned that the window will not be open for long, so Washington needs to make sincere moves rather than create new trouble.

When asked is there still a window of opportunity to repair China-US ties before US elections, former Chinese Ambassador to the US Cui Tiankai told the Global Times on Thursday that it's never too late if there is political will. "China has shown its political commitment to improving relations."

VIDEO: What is known - and not - about the collision of the US drone with Russian fighter

When a Russian fighter collided with a large U.S. surveillance drone over the Black Sea on Tuesday, it was a rare but serious incident that triggered a U.S. diplomatic protest and raised concerns about the possibility of Russia recovering sensitive technology. Alleged video recorded by the Russian Su-27 was released.

U.S. and Russian authorities have had conflicting reports of the collision between the MQ-9 Reaper drone and the Russian Su-27 fighter - each blaming the other. But a Pentagon spokesman raised the possibility that the Department of Defense could eventually declassify and release the video it has of the collision. Russia has already released a video allegedly recorded by the Su-27 pilot during the U.S. Reaper incident.

Defense officials said the drone was not recovered. But the Pentagon refused to say if any effort was underway to collect debris or pieces of Reaper.

WHAT THE U.S. SAYS HAPPENED

The Pentagon and the U.S. European Command said that two Russian Su-27 aircraft dumped fuel on the MQ-9, which was carrying out a routine surveillance mission over the Black Sea in international airspace. They said that Russian jets flew around and in front of the drone several times for 30 to 40 minutes, and then one of the Russian aircraft “hit the propeller of the MQ-9

The CBS TV network released a montage on how the incident went.

U.S. Air Force General James Hecker, commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa, said that the actions of the Russian jet “almost caused both aircraft to crash.” The Pentagon spokesman Brig. General Pat Ryder said that the collision probably also damaged the Russian fighter, but the Su-27 managed to land. He didn't mean where he landed.

The Pentagon said the drone was "far away" from any Ukrainian territory, but did not provide details. A U.S. defense official said he was operating west of Crimea over the Black Sea. The employee spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details of the mission.

U.S. Reaper drones are operating from Romania.

It is not clear whether the collision was accidental or intentional, but both sides agree that the Russian aircraft was trying to intercept the drone.

At the moment, the U.S. Navy's P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft is operating near the coast of Romania. It is not included in the Black Sea area, probably because of the incident with the American drone.

WHAT DOES RUSSIA SAY HAPPENED?

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the U.S. drone was flying near the border with Russia and invaded an area that was declared banned by the Russian authorities. He said the Russian military sent fighters to intercept the U.S. drone. He claimed that "as a result of a sudden maneuver, the U.S. drone went into uncontrollable flight with loss of altitude and collided with the surface of the water".

The U.S. says a Russian fighter hit the propeller of a U.S. surveillance drone over the Black Sea on Tuesday in a "shameless violation of international law", causing U.S. forces to take down the unmanned aerial vehicle.

Russia declared large areas near Crimea outside the flight limits. Since the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and long before Russia invaded Ukraine last year, Moscow has accused U.S. surveillance planes of flying very close to its borders, ignoring the warnings issued by Russia.

Nations operate routinely in international waters and airspace, and no country can claim limits on the territory outside its own border.

The ministry said that the Russian aircraft were sent to intercept the drone, but they did not use their weapons and "did not come into contact" it.

WHAT IS AN MQ-9 REAPER?

The MQ-9 Reaper is a large U.S. Air Force unmanned aircraft that is remotely operated by a team of two. It includes a ground control station and satellite equipment and has a wingspan of 20 meters. The team includes a qualified pilot responsible for piloting the aircraft and a enlisted crew member in charge of operating the sensors and guiding the weapons.

Routinely used during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for surveillance and air strikes, the Reaper can be armed or disarmed. It can carry up to eight laser-guided missiles, including Hellfire missiles and other sophisticated ammunition, and can fly over targets for about 24 hours. It is about 11 meters long, 4 meters high and weighs 2,200 kg. It can fly at an altitude of up to 50,000 feet (15,000 meters) and has a range of about 1,400 nautical miles (2,500 kilometers).

The Reaper, which began operating in 2007, replaced the Air Force's smaller Predator drones. Each Reaper costs about $32 million.

DIPLOMATIC TENSION

The collision triggered a diplomatic protest.

The U.S. State Department summoned Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov to a meeting on Tuesday with Karen Donfried, Deputy Secretary of State for Europe.

“We are talking directly to the Russians, again at higher levels, to convey our strong objections to this unsafe and unprofessional interception, which caused the crash of the U.S. unmanned aircraft,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price.

And White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said the U.S. "will express our concerns about this insecure and unprofessional interception."

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin did not talk to his Russian colleague about the incident, Ryder said.

HAS IT HAPPENED BEFORE?

This is not the first time that Russian aircraft have flown so close to U.S. aircraft in the Black Sea that it led the Pentagon to publicly condemn the incident for putting crews at risk. In 2020, Russian jets crossed in front of a B-52 bomber flying over the Black Sea and flew 30 meters from the nose of the bomber, causing turbulence.

Russian jets also fly over U.S. warships during exercises in the Black Sea. In 2021, Russian warplanes overw over the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, who was participating in a major exercise. Until Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year, U.S. warships were deployed more frequently in the Black Sea in response to Russia's 2014 attack on Crimea.

Most of the time, however, military interceptions - in the air or at sea - are routine and have happened several times with Russian aircraft in the Pacific, especially in the north. Last month, U.S. fighters intercepted two Russian TU-95 bombers in international airspace off the coast of Alaska and "escorted" them for 12 minutes, according to the Pentagon.

And Russian aircraft carried out similar missions and also fly over U.S. Navy ships in the Pacific. In most cases, interceptions are considered safe and professional.

It is not clear whether the Russian pilots were willing to approach the Reaper or dump fuel on it because they knew it was not manned - and therefore there was no risk to an American pilot or crew. The deliberate overthrow of a manned aircraft - injuring or killing crew members - can be considered an act of war.

Biden Takes Down Spy Balloon

LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Feb. 4, 2023.--President Joe Biden, 80, succumbed to mounting criticism that he allowed a Chinese spy balloon to collect data over sensitive military sites for the last three days, finally shooting down the thousand-pound, three-busload object over U.S. territorial waters off the North Carolina coast.  As the unidentified Chinese balloon drifted from the Aleutian Islands into Canada, then down into Montana, the Chinese government claimed it was an elaborate weather balloon, drifting off course because of prevailing trade winds.  Pentagon officials, led by 69-year-old Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, confirmed that the balloon was an intel-gathering mechanism of unknown origin, collecting data, presumably sending it to some control-and-command center in Beijing.  President Joe Biden said he was informed about the Chinese spy balloon on Wednesday, Feb. 1, ordering it shot down at the earliest possible time.

Pentagon officials said they were concerned about shooting down the mammoth-sized balloon, fearing the debris field could strike unexpected civilians.  Drifting over unpopulated areas of the country, it’s doubtful that any of the balloon’s debris would have had any impact over unpopulated areas on the Midwest.  At the same time, Biden claims he was first informed about Feb. 1, when, in fact, NORAD [North American Aerospace Defense Command] was monitoring its movement over Canada in the days before it drifted into U.S. airspace.  “They successfully shot it down, and I want to compliment our aviators who did it,” Biden told reporters, saying a recovery operation was underway by the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.  Video of the incident showed an orb-like structure, two-bus lengths in diameter punctured, deflated and plummeting to the Atlantic Ocean off the North Carolina coast.  

Pentagon officials hope to analyzie the debris to determine the Chinese technology used to send data back to a command-and-control center in Beijing.  “The balloon, which was being used by the [Peoples Republic of China] in an attempt to surveil strategic sites in the continental United States, was brought down above U.S. territorial waters,” Austin said..  Austin also said the goals was “to take down the balloon safely over our territorial waters, while closely monitoring its path and intelligence collection activities.”  Waiting days to take down the alleged spy craft could have transmitted classified intel to Communist China about U.S. nuclear capabilities over strategic U.S. air bases.  Biden said he was informed about the Chinese spy craft Feb. 1, but it might have been two days before when NORAD picked up the unidentified flying object over Canada.

No one knows how much classified data was transmitted back to Beijing or whether the debris will show the memory capability to record classified intel from various sites in the U.S.  Letting the spy balloon drift to the East Coast before shooting it down could have wasted valuable time to take down the balloon.  China’s Foreign Ministry said the balloon was weather-tracking device that went astray because of the Jet Stream or prevailing trade winds.  U.S. officials said it had been tracking the spy balloon for days, something confirmed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.  Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said officials had watched the balloon for days with multiple methods, including piloted aircraft.  Secretary of State Antony Blinken, 60, said he postponed his high-level meeting with Chinese officials out of protest for the spy incident.

Blinken said he was due to talk about many key issues between the U.S. and China, including Taiwan, Ukraine War, encroachment in the South China Sea, human rights abuses against Muslim Uyghurs in Western China, trade tariffs, other bilateral issues and overall U.S.-Chinese relations.  After shooting down the spy balloon, Chinese President Xi Jinping won’t take it lightly.  Chinese officials wanted the U.S. to accept its apology without taking precipitous action.  Shooting down the balloon today could have adverse consequences on U.S.-Chinese relations.  China won’t take the shoot down lightly because of already strained U.S.-Chinese relations.  Whether that translates into more intimidation of Taiwan is anyone’s guess.  China has been making threatening gesture to Taiwan since former 82-year-old House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei Aug. 4, 2022 against Beijing’s objections. Biden was under the gun to do something about the latest Chinese insult to U.S. foreign policy.  If he didn’t take decisive action, Biden would have been subject of withering criticism for allowing Beijing to spy on the U.S. As it stands now, the Chinese spy ship passed over several strategic U.S. airbases, home to the U.S. nuclear arsenals.  Blinkn told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Li that the Chinese spy balloon was “an irresponsible act and a clear violation of U.S. sovereignty and international law that undermined the purpose of the trip.”  Pentagon officials refuted China’s explanation that the unidentified orb was a weather monitoring object, not a spy craft.  Flying over Mamstrom Air Force Basel, home to U.S. nuclear silos, was no accident.  Defense officials think that the Chinese spy craft collected classified data on U.S. nuclear capability, something China could neutralize in any conflict.

According to the Department of National Defense, Canada is collaborating with the US to protect sensitive information from foreign intelligence threats following the detection of a high-altitude surveillance balloon. The United States has been tracking a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon spotted over American airspace for several days.

The Pentagon says it decided not to shoot it down over concerns about hurting people on the ground. The Department of National Defense and the Canadian Armed Forces issued a joint statement Thursday night that referred to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

The statement doesn't mention China or state whether the surveillance balloon flew over Canadian airspace. It says Canadians are safe and that Canada is taking steps to ensure the security of its airspace, including a potential second incident.

A senior U.S. defense official said the U.S. has "very high confidence" that it is a Chinese high-altitude balloon flying over sensitive sites to collect information. One of the places the balloon was spotted was Montana, which is home to one of the nation's three nuclear missile silo fields at Malmstrom Air Force Base. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information.

Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, Pentagon press secretary, provided a brief statement, saying the government continues to track the balloon. He said it is "currently traveling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground." He said similar balloon activity has been seen in the past several years. He added that the U.S. took steps to ensure it did not collect sensitive information.

A senior administration official, who was also not authorized to publicly discuss sensitive information, said President Joe Biden was briefed and asked the military to present options. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, advised against taking "kinetic action" because of risks to the safety of people on the ground. Biden accepted that recommendation.

The defense official said the U.S. has "engaged" Chinese officials through multiple channels and communicated the seriousness of the matter. The senior defense official said the U.S. did get fighter jets, including F-22s, ready to shoot down the balloon if ordered by the White House. The Pentagon ultimately recommended against it, noting that even though the balloon was over a sparsely populated area of Montana, its size would have put people at risk.

It was either what the military was doing to prevent it from collecting sensitive information or what would happen to the balloon if it wasn't shot down. China said Friday that it was looking into the reports and urged calm.

Some Montana residents reported seeing an unusual object in the sky around the time of the airport shutdown on Wednesday, but it's not clear that it was a balloon. From an office window in Billings, Chase Doak said he saw a "big white circle in the sky" that he said was too small to be the moon.

He took some photos, then dashed home to get a camera with a better lens and continued to take pictures and videos. He could see it for about 45 minutes, and it appeared stationary, but Doak said the video suggested it was slowly moving.
