known as ad gallinas albas (of the white hen) because of pliny the elder's tale in his naturalis historia, recounting the myth of livia, newly bethroted to octavian augustus, having a white hen holding a laurel branch in its beak dropped into her lap by an eagle, interpreted as an omen of good fortune.

DANCING MAENADS: 2 Large Marble Frieze Reliefs H89 X W165 cm each, Roman "The female figures are faithful copies of the models created at the end of the 5th c. BC by the Greek sculptor Callimachus. Some, such as the maenad holding a basket full of fruit and the one screaming disheveledly brandishing two torches and with her arms wrapped in snakes, are however not typical of the Dionysian thiasos but refer to the iconography of an offering bearer or a Hora [season] and that of an Erinyes [personification of revenge especially towards those who attack one's family], themes that adapt to a funerary context." Had been inspired from tons of legends of merfolk/sirens lately (especially those of “merman asking hand in marriage with mortal women” in some Scandinavian and Asian mythologies) + obscure stories of forgotten sea deities of Ancient Greco-Roman mythology and their later depictions in Italian Renaissance, too. (such as Triton, the sea messenger son of Poseidon and Amphitrite; the familiar Nereids, 50 daughters of Nereus and Doris; and older gods such as Okeanos and Tethys, primordial Pontos and Thalassa, etc.)
