The Suspect (1944)
"Don't you think that an innocent man might be more tolerant in the cause of justice?"
"No, I don't. I think an innocent man might behave precisely as I have."
"Well, I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you."
"Why don't you arrest me? Here I am."
"I'd like to, believe me, but unfortunately I can't."
"No, you've run against a blank wall. You take my advice and don't beat your head against it."

Glad's Book List
I wrote a post recently about my history (normally I'd link it but I don't want to be narcissistic), and realized that I've read a fair few occult books over the years. So here's the list; I'll keep updating it as I find more books in my various libraries and book stashes.
Quick note before getting into this list--not everything I've read will make it. Just the stuff I read and recommend others parse through. For example, I have intentionally omitted my studies in Kabbalah to discourage others from unintentionally appropriating.
But by "parse through", I truly mean that. My path has meandered through several schools of thought and wandered into appropriative territory at times (I constantly strive to correct any appropriation in my practice that gets brought to my attention). Maybe about 20% of each book makes it into my current path.
Eh, so it wasn't so quick of a note. Here's the list:

chit-chattin about some books i've read (or reread) recently. not a review, and i'll refrain from big spoilers in case you happen to be interested in reading any, but just a general overview and some thoughts ( ᐛ )و
been making an effort to read more lately. that thing happened that comes with adulthood, you know, things take priority, life happens, as well as the SocMed's curse i'm sure we all share; books take time, and effort, and is competing with a skinner box. i've come up with a pretty good system, which is taking me e-reader somewhere nice, or at least into a different room, away from my desktop, but not getting too hung up if i do get distracted. i'll dig out my wireless headphones, put on an album or lofi, then throw my phone the maximum distance away before it disconnects. i make a point not to make time to do it every day, like a set hour, because i know how my brain works and if i feel like i 'have' to do it i'll resent it. it's somehow much easier for me to think, independently, 'oh yeah, i've got a book to read' every single day rather than planning to do it. this is a fool's system. i do not recommend structuring anything like this.
in no particular order;
negative space - b.r yeager: i really loved this! there are a lot of 'sad kids roam around on bikes with Horrors Occurring' books, but this is very contemporary and has a very specific sort of late 10s malaise. teenagers are committing suicide en masse in a dying suburban town, and all there is to do is drink, smoke and see who comes up next so you can take a picture and talk about it on a specially made gawking message board, and that's before the hallucinogen that lets you see into another reality. explains very little and that just makes it better, don't worry about things making sense the first time through. strongly recommend if you like your books to make you vomit
the thin man - dashiell hammett: nick and nora charles. need i say anything. is there a single thing i need to say. it's fucking dashiell hammett. it's dashiell hammett writing nick and nora charles. one trillion out of ten. nora. nora fucking charles is here.
archer in jeopardy (the zebra-striped hearse, the instant enemy, the doomsters) - ross macdonald: three book omnibus from another of the Big Three (chandler, hammett, macdonald). they're all fantastic. they don't quite have the poetic turns that chandler does but also, comparing anybody to raymond chandler on turns of phrase is criminal. set in a time period you don't see so much, the transition from the 50s to 60s. a little old-man-yells-at-cloud-y about the youth, but you're going to struggle to find a noir writer who approaches his subjects with such empathy. lew archer is a kind, open-hearted man, and he suffers hugely for it. i know a significant amount of you are here for fallout stuff, so i think this is a fair comparison; nick valentine owes a lot to how lew archer is written. if you're looking to get into the genre and need a reference point, these are probably the books you should start with
mass effect revelation - gave it a whirl, couldn't stick with it. might try again later, i really like anderson as a character and i'm big into ME.
quantum devil saga; avatar tuner - yu godai, kevin frane; it's okay! i enjoyed it, but i'm super into the game it's expanding on. supplemental material, you know. i wouldn't read it by itself
body scout - lincoln michel; neo-noir set in the future where corporations run amok and pump athletes so full of experimental drugs that they turn to chunky soup on the field. i appreciate how batshit weird it gets, it's very confidently written. i finished it a month ago and have thought about it every day since, it's very up my alley, themes and such that i like and explore. you'd probably like this if you like dmt.
dishonored; the corroded man - adam christopher; an interesting read in that it takes the incredible setting of dishonored and somehow makes it tedious. didn't like it
devil house - john darnielle: now here's a fuckin tome and a half. a (fictional) true crime writer digs into an occult double-murder. but it's not about that. well it is. don't let the cover fool you, it's not a horror. but it kind of is? whatever it is, it's worthwhile. really dense, good if you want to get your teeth into some Big Questions. you'll spend the first part wondering when it will pick up speed, then you'll be screaming for it to stop
pictures of sea slugs; various sea slugs - not a book but something i've been looking at a lot lately. i think they're very cute. i love their little frills

So if Jeff Skinner was given a cross checking penalty to Raymond after the fight, then why was the goal taken back?? If they called it on the spot the play would've been dead before the goal

Victoria's Secret: Downfall and Rebranding
Two youtubers who I follow managed to release videos on Victoria's Secret within an hour of eachother. Coincidence? Possibly. But I thought it was the universe's way of telling me: 'Celine, research this topic and it shall be thoroughly intriguing'. So here we are.
Underclothing has a long history. While it's shape has changed over the years, going from perhaps a corset or a bustle to a bra and underpants, it has been around for absolutely ever.
While lingere might have been called oppressive by recent critiques, many women wear it for themselves, internalised patriarchal ideals or not. Critiques call it something to shape your body to the current patriarchal ideas of beauty, and women respond with saying that it is 'their choice'. The waters are murky here, and this 'choice' could be the internalised male gaze, or the need to support a larger frame, unless you want a painful back later.
Either way, back to Victoria's Secret. Roy Raymond founded the store in 1977, after seeing another lingerie store and thinking that it is 'uncomfortable' for men to shop in a place like this. He wanted to found a store where men were comfortable buying lingerie for their wives. He wanted to relax the men around them.
In 1982, Lex Wexner's company bought the store for just 1 million dollars, turning it into a billion dollar company within the span of a decade. He turned the target audience to women. They wanted to make it seem upper-crust and wanted to maintain a european glamour theme, going as far as to say their headquarters were in London, when in reality they were based in Ohio, and for a breathy english-women voice to answer the phone.
Around 2000, however, they went from their faux glamour to the highly made-up 'angels'. Their first fashion show was in 1995, and was televised in 1999, with 1.5 million people tuning in. The budget was higher every year, with abstract patterns and ostentatious wings. It was aspirational to be a model there, and to be an angel was a dream.
Still, the models was were thinner every year. With the rise of 2000s diet culture (if you know, you know), it was encouraged to be skinner and skinner. Models have spoken about the rigorous workouts, the lack of solid food for weeks and not drinking water hours before the shows, to keep the skinny figures.
Some of the models was assaulted. A friend of Les, Jeff Epstien, (apparently) used his connections to Les to bring them for 'auditions' for Victoria's secret. A lot of these auditionees were really young, still in school uniform. He would bring them in and assault them, on the basis that he was a 'modelling scout' when he most definitely was not. Victoria's secret model, Andy Muse was actually invited to dinner with Ed Razek, under the impression it was work related, yet in the car, he attempted to kiss her. She rightfully rebuffed his advances, and that year, she wasn't chosen to perform in the fashion show. Hm.
He also shamed a model for eating, asking other models if they thought she should eat more. Obviously there was more to the incident, but my time is limited.
Russel James often shot for Victoria's secret, and after the shoots would ask for nude photographs. He then released a coffee book with all the photographs. While they all gave permission, there was an incident where one of these photographs was put up in a store in Las Vegas, without the model's permission, taken down after her agent complained.
There are many more scandals that took place. Obviously I don't have forever to tell you. So let's get into the fall.
In the 2010s, most people finally opened up their eyes to how ridiculous being more than a UK size 8 being called 'fat', really was. Fat is an adjective, it isn't an insult, but the 2000s really took it to the extreme. Les wasn't open to diversifying the casting, saying the show was a fantasy, and bringing in a plus-size model (or a trans model) was... eye-opening? Messy.
Women's perception of Victoria's secret were beginning to twist, having fallen since 2013. They were opting to shop at more body positive lingerie stores and the annual fashion show's rating were lower and lower. People were finally sick of the very white, thin women, especially with the rise of the #MeToo movement.
Their sizing was far from a complete spectrum. Courtney Killpack, a bra-size specialist, explained, "There's over 19 cup sizes, and Vs only carries 7. And there's over 10 band sizes, and VS only carries six."
A letter was sent to to Wexner, recommending ways to improve growth. Clearly, some part of it was taken into account.
The store was seeing this too. Their profit fell by almost 50%, and they really were trying to fix up their brand image. They brought in new board runners, six women, introduced model Barbara Palvin, who was far from plus-size but still a step away from the 23-inch waists, as well as transgender model, Valentina Sampaio. Funnily enough, the day Valentina shared a photo of herself, tagging vs, it was revealed that Razek had resigned.
And, as of November 2019, the fashion show was cancelled. In 2021, they made the biggest move of all, switching from the angels to the VS Collective, entrepreneurs and activists. They said they wanted it to stop being about what men want, and to be about what women wanted. The Collective are supposed to be involved in marketing and advising.
They split with Wesner, and there are multiple sizes of store mannequins, removing the angel imagery. They expanded their range, including sportswear, and even did a mother's day campaign, featuring a nursing bra and a pregnant model.
Still, there isn't a plus-size line. They're trying to almost cash in on the plus-size movement, without the work. They use few eco-friendly and sustainable materials.
Savage x Fenty had a fashion show the same year VS cancelled theirs, causing comparison between the two. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Savage x Fenty was out of the box, it included an incredibly diverse casting, Rihanna herself, the founder, is a woman of colour, so it comes from a more authentic place than simply an advertisement.
Anything VS does will be regarded as a publicity stunt, possibly due to image they have cultivated over a long period of time. They may have split from the angels campaign, but I'll always associate the two. It takes time to shake off an image that has so long been attached to the brand, especially when we take into account how they've only recently done all this, after their sales have dropped.
Personally? I'll probably continue to shop and M & S, or Sainsburys, for underclothing.
A note, a lot of this information came from Mina Le's video, as well as Jordan Theresa's. However much I love the research this takes, I am a student, and the first week back is always terrible. Thanks for reading, though, and here's the links to the videos, as well as a few other sources.

Mark Cuban & SHYNE are Tango & Cash - Read the synopsis. Pt.3
In Los Angeles, Lieutenants Raymond Tango of the Westside and Gabriel Cash of the Eastside are considered the best detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department, where they are both assigned to the Narcotics Division and lauded for numerous successful and daring drug busts across Greater Los Angeles. However, they are opposites in almost every way and are intense rivals, each considering himself to be better, despite having never met. Unbeknownst to them however, their intercepted drug shipments belong to a criminal organization headed by Yves Perret. Frustrated, Perret and his associates plan their revenge against the detectives, but refrain from killing them as to not turn them into martyrs. Instead, Perret devises an elaborate scheme to ruin their lives: frame them for murder.
Tango and Cash are separately informed of a drug deal, where they meet each other for the first time. The pair discover the wiretapped corpse of an undercover FBI agent; suddenly, additional FBI agents led by Agent Wyler arrive to arrest them for murder. Wyler finds Cash's backup pistol near the body, and at trial, an audio tape ostensibly recording the pair shooting the agent after discussing a drug purchase is used against them, verified by audio expert Skinner. With the evidence stacked against them, Tango and Cash plead no contest to a lesser charge in exchange for reduced sentences in a minimum-security prison; however, they are held in a maximum-security prison alongside several criminals they had arrested previously.
Once in prison, Tango and Cash are roused from their beds and tortured by Perret's henchman Requin and a gang of inmates, until Matt Sokowski, the assistant warden and Cash's former commanding officer, rescues them. Sokowski recommends they escape and provides them with a plan, but Tango opts out. When Cash tries to escape, he finds Sokowski murdered and is pursued by the guards before being rescued by Tango. Reaching the roof, Cash ziplines outside the prison walls, but Tango is attacked by an inmate before he can follow, and defeats him by knocking him into a transformer. To clear their names, they separate; Tango tells Cash that if he needs to contact him, he can go to the Cleopatra Club and ask for "Katherine".
The detectives visit the witnesses who framed them in court: Tango intercepts Wyler, who admits that Requin was in charge of the setup, and is killed shortly after by a car bomb; Cash discovers that Skinner made the incriminating tape himself. At the Cleopatra Club, Cash finds Katherine—Tango's sister who goes by the name of Kiki—and when police arrive at the club, she helps Cash escape by dressing him as a woman. Later that night, Tango reunites with Cash and the duo are met at Kiki's house by Tango's commanding officer. He gives them Requin's address and tells them they have 24 hours to find out who he works for; Tango and Cash apprehend Requin and interrogate him, and trick him into giving up Perret's name.
Cash's friend, weapons expert Owen, lends the pair an armed RV which they use to storm Perret's hideout and defeat his pursuing guards. However, Perret has Kiki kidnapped and starts a timer to trigger his hideout's self-destruct. He appears in a hall of mirrors holding Kiki at gunpoint; both detectives pick out the correct Perret and shoot him in the head. They rescue Kiki and barely escape as the hideout explodes. Now able to get along, Tango and Cash joke half-seriously about Cash's desire to date Kiki as a newspaper headline announces they have been cleared of all charges and returned to LAPD duty as heroes.
