Tripitaka constantly asking for food, especially in the earlier chapters, reminds me that he was possibly about 18-20 at the beginning of the journey.
A little beyond the true bottomless pit stage, sure, but maybe not quite outside it yet.

Food Growing Friday: Raised Bed Basics!
Raised beds are a very simple, manageable, and accessible way for people to establish their own gardens. It is not as daunting as it may seem, and it can be as DIY as you want. To start, all you need to focus on is the Frame, the Fill, and the Flood.
Frame: To start, you need a solid wood or metal frame. If you’re building your beds yourself, a great long-term wood choice is Cedar, which is naturally rot-resistant and not a bank-breaker compared to other woods. If you’re choosing metal instead, especially in wetter climates, you’ll wanna go with Galvanized Steel to avoid leeching and rust. Water Troughs are a great choice for this. You can customize the height of your bed to fit your accessibility and price needs, lower beds are more cost-effective, but higher beds are easier to maintain for people with disabilities and difficulty bending down.
You can also purchase easy-install raised bed kits from your local garden or hardware center, and not even worry about all this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fill: Your soil mix can make or break your gardening experience. You have to make sure that you’re not sacrificing cost for quality, and vice versa. To do so, it’s good to mix about 50/50 with cheaper topsoil, and organic compost. The compost you can source from a bag, or you can make it yourself if you have the resources. Also keep an eye out for local compost bins that you may be able to source from. Topsoil also can come from a bag, or any construction and landscaping projects in your area. Never be afraid to find resources in the community around you!
Especially with taller beds, it’s also smart to start with a layer of mulch, logs, or branches. Anything organic that can break down, but that takes up plenty of space in order to slow weed growth and lessen the burden of soil on your wallet.
Tumblr media
Flood: Water! Water! Water! A garden can grow nowhere without it's beloved moisture. Different beds will have different watering requirements, depending on how well the soil drains, and how much the plants need. But for now, the set up. I have personally found the best way to irrigate a small bed is by drip watering, because it avoids issues like powdery mildew and water spots caused by overhead watering. You can either purchase grids to go across the entire bed, or you can get flexible irrigation tubing and directly target your plants.

Lol I remember when I was short on money.
I literally sold my plasma.
Not everyone is healthy enough for that, I recognize that. But I would strap myself into one of those stupid fucking chairs before you ever caught an ebegging post on my blog. I'm tired of being opposed to begging being seen as me being more privleged.
Like lol sorry I'm not in a bad enough position to be completely destitute.

One of my least favourite things about renting is having to move after spending time and money fixing landlords shitty gardens. And houses, but I spend more on flower bulbs tbh. Anyway, starting again.

Square Foot Gardening Update!
Tumblr media
I harvested the onions and garlic yesterday - this is what I got from my raised bed in the hellstrip by the street. A 2x5 patch yielded 27 heads of hardneck 'Killarney Red' garlic and 20 'Yellow Rock' onions that I planted last October, along with 20 little 'Candy Apple' red onions that I planted in April for use as scallions. I'll replant those little red onions and two dozen of the largest garlic cloves in the Fall. Onions and garlic are dead simple to grow and make a good beginner crop.
Here's how the raised bed looked on May 3rd. The onions are in the left midground, the garlic in the right midground, the leeks and potatoes are visible in the background. I reserved the empty foreground patch for a pole bean planting I planned for late May. A few scallions spilled over into the bean patch because I intended to take them early, before the beans took over.
Tumblr media
Here's how the pole beans looked as of this morning. I built a trellis between two beds to increase the bean growing area and make them orders of magnitude easier to pick. The bamboo I got from a patch growing in my Japanese-style back garden. The bare patch on the extreme lower left of the photo is where the onions and garlic were.
Tumblr media
Here's my husband showing one day's bean and tomato harvest. This is what it's yielding every 3-5 days.
Tumblr media
And just for giggles, here's my flower bed that's in the hellstrip behind the beans, sweet peppers and tomatoes. The gladiolus and cosmos are just starting to bloom; the bachelor buttons and nasturtiums have been blooming for quite a while now. (In the spring it's a riot of crocuses, daffodils, irises and hyacinths.)
Tumblr media
If there's enough interest I can post how to build the watering grids. Building them yourself is far cheaper than buying pre-assembled ones online.

Are you out of your fucking mind? Now, I am not enough of a gun enthusiast to know when the long-range rifle of that particular ability came into being--my grandad would have known--but I know it wasn’t in common usage. quite a bit of the “could kill a soldier at 1000 yards and anyone behind him” was a myth. 1000 yards is such a long fucking shot, y’all. You cannot possibly understand if you don’t shoot.
A moment’s research tells me it wasn’t even in the Olympics until 1908 even though free rifle was already an event.
EVEN if they have like, a Mauser, which is a WWI “sniper rifle” so too early but it’s the only gun of that vintage and style I’m familiar with, let me tell you what,. accuracy at that distance isn’t just....done by the gun. There’s a whole level of skill behind it, and let me tell you some guy shooting from his high armpit AIN’T DOING IT.
also there’s a reason you don’t stand for this shit. This is a long-range setup
Tumblr media
At that distance, every TINY FUCKING TWITCH MATTERS. People who are skilled long-range shooters are extremely good at quieting their bodies, and even then they need a bench. There’s a whole breath-holding thing, etc, I will never be a long-range shooter like this and that’s fine, we all have our gifts.
“They must have one of them newfangled rifles” Oh fuck off not to sound like an NRA fuckl but the rifle doesn’t shoot itself, my dude, he could have the nicest gun under Chstendom and he’s not gonna be able to hit jack or shit like that.

Staying out of tales of arise Anything bc I think I do want to experience this game organically bc those plot twists hit me like a fucking TRUCK.
I did look up an estimate for how long the game is tho. I'm at like 30 ish hours and if you focus on plot alone it's like some 40 hours. But I have been doing side quests lol so it probably isn't even 10 hours remaining.
A Little scared of how things will be after this point tho. The Vibes will definitely have changed. And oh God I just want to hold Alphen so tightly. He doesn't deserve this.
#speculation nation#tfw ur amnesia was a blessing but now you remember and suddenly you have to deal with Extreme Trauma#and he was already traumatized!!!! he was already traumatized and now hes even more traumatized!!!!!!#but let's be real this group is made entirely up of very traumatized people lol. such is the way of this world.#this game is so fucking brutal tho. like im used to tales games hitting much harder than you expect#but they went out of their WAY to make this one really fuck you up#im absolutely in love with this game. but WOW it is not for the faint of heart lmfao#which sure is something to say about a very anime looking game where you can go to the Owl World and the Owl King will give you outfits#and you can wear ridiculous accessories even during serious cutscenes (a tales game Classic)#and also you own a ranch.#i still cant wrap my head around that one hfkshfj like what do you MEAN i own a ranch?!?! and then i just Kill the animals?!?!?#like ya food meats but i thought raising chickens would give me eggs. me cooing at my grown chickens then going into the menu#and it's like 'your chickens have reached maturity! items received: Chicken Meat" and i was just like. 'O-oh.'#and then the chickens were GOOOONE but at least the cats and dogs stay around without me EATING them#i. prefer to not visit my ranch. i dont want to be reminded that all these animals are gonna die.#hfkshfjd and YEA ALL THIS alongside some stunning displays of moral ambiguity#& the utter horror and injustice of 300 years of subjugation#perfectly captured right down to the erasure of culture. these people having to look to ruins to get in touch with their culture#bc it was Taken from them.#just. it's a ridiculously over the top anime game just like any tales game but wow. wowowowwow#and im saying this after playing tales of xillia 2. aka still the only game that made me cry Twice.#arise is truly an astounding game. it's very definitely in the running for my favorite tales game.#we'll see how the ending goes lol but given everything ive seen so far. it is Likely to be just as stunning hdkshfj#raving about this game when i should be going to sleep. man . man. ..
