Main Messages from Trolls Band Together
Family isn't perfect, and is often complicated. It's full of ups and downs, but what's important is being there for each other.
2. Family doesn't have to mean blood: Poppy at first says Bridget is 'like' a sister, then after hanging out with Viva she realizes her and Bridget act like sisters, then Poppy ends with referring to Bridget as her second sister.
Also, Poppy and Viva are included in the family harmony and the family song at the end, yet they are not related to Brozone. Poppy and Branch are only dating, not married - but he and Poppy have such a strong connection and care about / support each other so much, that she and her sister are already part of Branch's family.
3. Just because someone is related to you doesn't mean they're allowed to treat you badly.
And lastly, the most underrated and perhaps most important lesson in this movie:
4. Bad behaviour needs to be punished
I figured Velvet and Veneer would get off easy, the usual kid's movie ending where the villains suddenly transform into good people and everyone loves them now, or at best the villains run away never to be seen again.
Instead, we see Veneer with a change of heart, but not Velvet. We saw right from the beginning that Velvet is the true villain, and Veneer is half-heartedly going along with it because she's his sister so he feels he has to support her.
Then Velvet rightfully gets arrested, but so does Veneer - even though he realizes he was wrong, he still did bad things as Crimp pointed out, and should be punished. A quote from the Land Before Time movies, movie #7, describes this perfectly: "He may be sorry, but it doesn't change what he did, and he must be responsible for that. We must all be accountable for our actions."
It's SO nice to see this lesson. Too often characters commit terrible crimes and get nothing more than 'that wasn't nice, please be nicer', 'okay, I will', and then the bad stuff is just 'oh well'. And this happens way too much in real life too - people get away with anything because 'punishment is mean'. No, it's not, it teaches people right from wrong, and/or stops bad people from continuing to hurt innocent people. Like Veneer, some people can change. But like Velvet, some people are just evil.

even though i’m writing this as a try to ward off an anxiety attack and existential crisis, i just wanted to speak a few things into the void today.
this message is as much for me as it is for you, or anyone who needs to see this today.
without further ado,
i want to learn to let go. i want to master it to the point where it is as easy as breathing.
i know i’m not quite there yet, and how im feeling today is a testament to that. i’m so tired of feeling so exhausted from doing nothing.
i feel like i’m living my life half awake sometimes. i don’t want to be passive and numb to all the beauty in this world.
i want to learn to let go. i want to perfect it to the point where i don’t even recognise myself doing it.
my time on this earth is too precious, to hold on to the pain that comes with being alive.
my peace of mind is precious. i am precious.
i am loved, i am not difficult to love.
the more i let go, the lighter i’ll feel. the more awake i’ll become. the more i let go, the more i’ll feel.

I LOVE the music of Amadou & Mariam! This music video shows the amazing imagination of kids living our their dreams and imagining the boundless possibilities of the future. The lyrics are in French (Mali was once a French colony) and warn about the dangers of lies and division among community, a relevant message for our troubled times. Something I like about West African music is that it’s insanely catchy and ear-appealing but features lyrics with serious messages and social criticisms with rousing calls to action, instead of vapid sexual innuendo and drug references like a lot of western music these days.

it’s ok not to like the holidays, and I think it’s important to remember that. some people have holiday trauma (like me) and some people just find no meaning in it, whatever the reason is, it’s okay. don’t beat yourself up for not liking the holidays and when others try to shove it in your face, just remember to breathe. holidays can be hard. be gentle this time of year. it’ll be alright, I promise.

I Accentuate the Positive with a Song and Let Go of the Darkness

I never thought that I would actually hear myself say that well-worn Christian expression I had come to hate, “Devil, you are a liar!” I didn’t want to address any possible darkness and have it enter my mind or spirit. But in the last three weeks of having COVID-19 and then being admitted to the…
