“Her hair was as a wet fleece of gold, and each separate hair as a thread of line gold in a cup of glass. Her body was as white ivory, and her tail was of silver and pearl. Silver and pear was her tail, and the green weeds of the sea coiled round it; and like sea-shells were her ears, and her lips were like sea-coral. The cold waves dashed over her cold breasts, and the salt glistened upon her eyelids.”
– Oscar Wilde, “The Fisherman and His Soul”: A House of Pomegranates

Oscar Wilde was a brilliant Irish playwright and novelist known for his wit and enduring literature, including “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “The Importance of Being Earnest.” A leader in the Aesthetic movement, Wilde believed in the value of art and famously proclaimed, “All art is quite useless.” Despite facing criticism and imprisonment for his flamboyant personality and unconventional beliefs, Wilde’s satire, intelligence, and artistic talent have made him a revered figure in literature.
“WHAT SEEMS TO US BITTER TRIALS ARE OFTEN BLESSINGS IN DISGUISE.” ✨ words by Oscar Wilde neon via @elitist music “Treasure” by @zuco103 (I don’t know how this is for you, but if I look back at my life, this is very true for me. At that time, I felt it happened to me, and that I was a victim of the circumstances. Later I saw, it was exactly what I needed but never dared to change myself. Being YOU is Awesome! 🌟 Unpacking Oscar Wilde's Cool Advice
Oscar Wilde, a super-smart writer, had this really cool saying: “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” Let’s chat about why this quote is so amazing, why it matters, and how it keeps inspiring people. 🚀 Feel the good vibes and let’s dive in!
So, when Wilde said, “Be yourself,” he meant it’s totally rad to be exactly who you are. 🌈 Imagine a world where everyone acts like themselves—how…
“I might mimic a passion that I do not feel, but I cannot mimic one that burns me like fire” “I represent to you all the sins you have never” “There was something tragic in a friendship so coloured by romance, something infinitely tragic in a romance that was at once so passionate and so sterile First time reading Oscar Wilde and I was moderately pleased. A philosophical story that doesn’t have much in narrative, but makes up for in revealing contradictory nature of human nature as well as showing the hidden agenda between male friends. Among Lord Henry, Basil Hallward, and Dorian Gray, they exchange bittersweet truths about art and love and living the life that you want. Of course, some of their statements were dated (some of them being sexist when speaking about women) and there were a few references to Jews and Negroes that were offensive and fetishized. However, there’re discussions on the importance of art and how putting to much of yourself into something can reveal something monstrous; the struggle of beauty vs intelligence; and the romanization of tragedies. Dorian’s lack of accountabiltiy and cowardice fought against his desperation to conceal what “sinful nature” he harbored-that was done well. I felt for Basil and Lord Henry was a walking contradiction that I just adored. Apart from a section that could’ve been easily summarized, I enjoyed this very much. Wilde definitely was brave in writing this tale of secret affairs during his time. #booksaremyfriends #booksarecool #booksarefun #booksarethebest #bookreviewer #bookrecommendation #bookishfeature #bookishglee #bookbloggers #bookbloggerlife #readingislife #readingismagic #readingislit #readingisawesome #bookreviewersofinstagram #mybookfeatures #bookreview #readingcommunity #bookaddicted #bookrecs #bookpic #oscarwildequotes #readersgonnaread #readerlife #avidreader https://www.instagram.com/p/CnQH-U0rvBv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
"Never marry at all, Dorian. Men marry because they are tired, women, because they are curious: both are disappointed."
