found family but it's Kaz, that one weird emo uncle that keeps trying to teach you about stocks; Inej, the caring mother that always says what you need to hear, but hides her own pain behind closed doors; Jesper, the favorite cousin full of energy that drives you to taco bell at 3am; Wylan, the seemingly innocent cousin that "couldn't hurt a fly" but has most definitely committed several crimes; Nina, the fun wine aunt that spills all the family tea and slips you some alcohol when your mom says no; Matthias, the grumpy grandfather that won't stop going on about the old days, but is actually a big softie that you can have late night patio talks with for hours

a thought re: cooking i just had while looking through bread recipes -> i think for people who are USED to cooking, it can be easy for us to lose sight of the (deep airquotes) "basic" bits of the cooking process.
like, for all of the bread recipes i've hoarded, i think i've only seen maybe 2 that mention the water that you should be adding to your yeast is distilled water, bc a lot of tap water has additives in it meant to inhibit the growth of things like yeast. and, yes, sure, once you say that out loud, it makes a lot of sense that you wouldn't want to use tap water in your bread recipes.
BUT if it makes so much sense, WHY do so few recipes mention that? most people, just starting out, will use what they have access to, which is often tap water. and after two, three, four, failed attempts at making bread bc their yeast just won't rise, they're probably likely to say, "fuck it, guess i wasn't meant to bake!" i'm a fairly good cook, and i went through this, only figuring out what i was doing wrong after going down a rabbit hole.
i was joking about another, unrelated cooking mishap to my bff, and i jokingly said, "no, i really need cookbook authors to start writing 'basic dumb bitch beginner' versions of their recipes!" bc tiny little "basic" things that they leave out (in THAT case, that you need to squeeze the water out of a block of tofu before you cook it, even after you drain the package) without even thinking about it may leave some people thinking "oh, well, guess i'm just a terrible cook!! 🙃"
i'm not sure what i'm trying to say here, but i think that as much fun as it might be making fun of ppl who don't know how to do ~basic~ tasks, it might in fact be better to make sure that "basic knowledge" is actually basic and common!

I love cooking so much and its turned out to be one of the biggest ironies of my life because I was forced to learn my way in the kitchen when I was around six years old (and usually under a lot of stress and the threat of punishment). For years, I refused to cook for myself or other people because I had done so for much of my childhood (as a step in for my mom when she wasn't around) and in my teenage years that I had grown so adamant to doing it again. Its really been in the last two years that Ive actively decided to learn more about happy recipes and baking that I am finding so much joy in it now. Anyways, I really hope to someday cook for people again, especially those who need it and bring joy to others with my flavorful food.

i will probably forget about this in .3 days, but i'm making a cooking sideblog at @affogatoflavor! i've been cooking a lot more recently (we'll see how long THAT lasts), so i thought it'd be fun to have a place to track/ show off and share the recipes i've been trying out! (also, i apologize in advance for the eyesore of a color scheme; it was so tacky, i couldn't help myself, tho i'm sure i'll fix it in the future...)

Good Omens 2 appreciation post for that moment after Nina has just rocked Crowley's world with the revelation that no, he isn't slick and yes, it is glaringly obvious to everyone just how head over heels in love with Aziraphale he is.
Crowley takes himself off to the french restaurant and is drowning his sorrows in a bottle of wine while having the realisation that he's been following the angel around like a lovesick puppy all day with no other possible agenda other than to be around him.
And then he sees Aziraphale and whistles him over but the angel is too busy to join him for a wine in the middle of the day and Crowley tries to divert questions by complaining that he's scared Gabriel/Jim is gonna smite him and he'll be well and truly smote, no, smoted? Smited? What's the word he's looking for?
And the angel gives him a knowing look and says:
"Smitten, I believe."
PERFECTION.
GRAMMATICAL CORRECTION AND DIAGNOSIS IN A SENTENCE.
AZIRAPHALE JUST READ HIM LIKE A HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE BOOK AND DOESN'T EVEN REALISE HE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.
This is my new favourite double entendre.
Smitten as the past tense of Smite. And the exact reason Crowley is drinking in the middle of the day.
He's realising he's smitten, your honour.
I hope Neil closed the laptop with a dramatic flourish after writing that line. Hell if I'd written a moment that perfect I'd take a victory lap of the kitchen and then call someone to tell them how clever I'd been before I pop.
