#Monsters on the Underground

The synopsis says: “It’s the hottest summer on record and London is dying. Prices are high, pay is low, and stressed commuters are packed on to London Underground trains again like the pandemic never happened. To add to the misery, the temperatures underground just keep climbing and climbing, the heat trapped in the clay with nowhere to go.
“Five travellers on an unlucky tube carriage find themselves bound together one morning as witnesses to a single horrific event – an event they can’t quite seem to remember. They make an unlikely team: weary tube driver, a disillusioned civil servant, an ambitious city trader, an overwhelmed hotel worker and an unhoused young man just trying to get by – but now they must come together to confront what they have seen and stop it in its tracks. Because there’s something lurking in the stifling darkness and labyrinthine tunnels that run below London… something old, something vicious, and something very, very hungry.”
I couldn't be more excited to be working with @jonnywaistcoat on his next two novels! This is just more of what he does best - pulling apart the very seams of society and giving me very specific new sleep paralysis demons, and somehow getting me to say thank you afterwards.
And if you're near London next month, why not pop along to Gollanczfest to hear him chat all things horror with Joe Hill and V. V. James? Tickets are still available:

you know, i had a totk thought (uh oh)
soemthign thats really bothering me about the whole "actually, ganondorf didnt like the guy appearing out of nowhere marrying a hylian and just saying yep das our kingdom now and we can mine it barren under your nose and also i got laserbeam pebbles that i totally wont ever use on anyone come join me or die just bc of all of that but mainly bc the guy brought some weird tech with him that he dont like" - thing is that ......... we see almost not a single tech thing in the past (and for that matter see nothing of the oh so perfect and peaceful paradise hyrule was before big evil desert man didnt want to join our paradise- like what is the point about making the whole point of the game be -we need to restore hyrule to this paradise it once was- when you dont even see it or get to care about anything of it)
it might sound like a weird hangup but no really, the most we see is like two servant constructs, thats it, when they 'prepare for war' im pretty sure all you see is some lightly dressed ( ... is it just me or does their whole get up look alot like native american/other indingenous people too ... i still dont know how to feel about that- kinda adjacent to some of the sonau armor, the battery one i think??, also having that look...) hylians with spears, where the heck is all that tech?? is it implied to be all down in the mines hollowing out the underground (for no real reason either bc .... theres only two sonau left and no one else seems to want use nor need the tech otherwise there should have been more traces or soemthing left of it -unless it all just magically appeared out of nowhere in mostly prime condition while all shiekah tech jsut vaporized for bs non reasons just for it to be in tha game but oh dont you see its always been there lmao- so whats the point really????)
or up in the sky as most battle constructs are and they cant get them down in time bc *gestures vaguely*
or is it intentionally kept out of view bc idk seeing an army of robots on raurus side he can send out on a whim might not make him look as oh so good and perfect as they want him to look when he already got laserbeam pebbles (most of which hes been hoarding until ONE falls into hands not under his control) ?? like it just ... feels weird?? so many battle constructs that can even be a threat to link are jsut fully functioning strolling around in the present still, why wouldnt you want to use any of them to battle gan and if they DID why wouldnt you show that (no the 3 second unicorn cutscene doesnt count bc its just .. gan and his monsters isnt it) ?? (also ... why isnt there a big like battle ground , like fine you dont have to animate an army of monsters and robots clashing but... wouldnt it be cool to have you discover a giant flat plain in the underground (that magically got put under ground like gan just decided to stroll down there to get sealed lol) and its the only mostly empty field in the game littered with thousands of monster bones and dead constructs intermingled?? just to give it all a bit of weight?? evidence that it happened?? cool ass discovery????)
(also also i cannot let go of ganondorf apparently being sooooo anti tech but then clamgan uses the shiekah stuff??? shouldnt he also be against that then or is that suddendly fine bc- oh woops sorry, forgot clamgan is actually just something, not connected to gan at all actually, i mean why else would miasma turn into malice only to turn into miasma again haha none of that is connected actually what is a calamity anyway? also im sorry to bring this up again but i just cannot let go of the ppl in the present being so obsessed with using sonau tech in every part of their life now- they just lived through an apocalypse of a barely understood strange tech but CLEARLY this other even less understood strang tech is not dangerous at all lets make CARS OUT OF IT and what theres no danger in miasma and that tech existing at the same time LIKE SOMETHING ELSE BEFORE THAT IDK SEEMS LIKE A BAD COMBO--- oh sorry forgot that ceased to exist in both the world and peoples minds for *gestures vaguely* plot reasons- why why why are monsters mining the sonanium?? they dont even work with the yiga no that is also completely disconnected we dont wanna draw and interesting connections after all- whats the point if it means nothing but to be a loot box for the player-- actually, so much of totk is just a so built around throwing you into a box of toys with no substance to it- listen i know games are kinda like toys but if it doesnt make sense and offers you nothing interesting to think about even slightly whAT IS THE POINT)

How does Chara feel about seeing Flowey? And the realization that it’s Asriel. How do they feel knowing that their plan caused Asriel to become like this. A twisted mirror version of them that’s come to hate monsters where they hated humanity. How do they feel about it.
Guilt. So, so much guilt. From both of them, actually. Asriel idolizes Chara and being Flowey, he still thinks it was his fault that their plan failed (why'd he wimp out? He should've just killed those humans. Idiot). Chara thinks it's their fault for even doing said plan in the first place (foolish foolish foolish I've killed us both).
Now, when Chara woke up after Frisk fell down, it was after dying together with their brother. They likely felt Asriel die. Asriel likely felt Chara die. And suddenly they're reunited, both undead one way or another. And they didn't even know.
The pacifist route wasn't just an epic underground adventure -- It was terrifying to witness firsthand how these monsters were attempting to take Frisk's soul. But didn't they wish for this, like once they wished for Asriel? For monsters to kill humans? Point is, Chara already got these Complicated Feelings long before they even thought of Flowey being Asriel.
But at the same time, the pacifist route was also a healing journey. It was undeniable that they got through it together as a team. Chara felt like they redeemed themselves, somehow, by guiding Frisk who's hellbent in sparing every single monster that tried to kill them. They could find it in them to forgive humans. To give humanity a chance. And by extension -- themselves.
Yet what happened with Asriel can't be undone......... Sikeee. When they discover the truth in True Lab, Chara went through what I'd call the Emotion Tornado. Good ol' guilt is back, horror, denial,...relief, hope? By the time, Chara is already familiar with the 'monsters are now the twisted image of who I had wanted them to be' thing and have partly made peace with what had happened. And the last part's going around in the form of a golden flower.

Guess who was just made~
The one and only strong fish...
FPE! Undyne
Tumblr media
Both her & Sans are from FPE! Tale
[Future Plans]
After I'm done making all the main characters for FPE! Tale..
I will be making all of their somewhat counterpart AU, where instead of the undertale storyline, they will be in the actual Fundamental Paper Education School & are either teachers, students, or workers
So meaning I'm going to change their outfits to fit their roles in the Fundamental Paper Education School AU
And possibly their sanity/crazy level...
:]

Deep underground, in a blighted cave lair lays Rhu'yhu'rhu. Greedily feeding on strange root-like plants that grow there. Fermented and rotting by his presence.

Don't know if it's needed, but TW for mentions of suicide. (It's not really that big, but I still put it just in case.)
If Sans Undertale were to judge them (plus Whole) based on what happened throughout the series, I think it would go something like this:
Heart: Sans would let him pass, but he's most definitely keeping an eye on him. (Trying to shoot Mind)
Mind: Judgement when completing Pacifist, yet you were rude. (Mocking Heart, yet not really committing any acts that would potentially have him earn EXP.) [Is there even a different judgement for being rude during a Pacifist run? I seriously don't even know–]
Soul: Would probably be given a bad time. (Threatening Heart and Mind, threatening suicide, probably killing the two in a few timelines, etc.)
Whole: Would be given a lecture to STOP RESETTING TIMELINES. (Obvious; he would forget five seconds later.)
Headcanon #230
#chonny jash#submission#cj mind#cj heart#cj soul#cj whole#i love this idea#i think they'd be p much how they are in the album [like you said basically]#like Mind & Heart wouldn't end up with any exp [well prolly a low amount rlly]#even if they try or act like it. they never actually kill the other. at most just harm them#soul is the only one that has the will to do so but only if he's pushed that far#if Mind & Heart were to kill anyone. they'd both immediately reset afterward#heart does so accidentally either like. accidentally harming a monster or in self defense an kinda an emotional outburst [like the gunshot]#mind would end up taking it *just* too far & do too much damage [again like in the album]#both feel HORRIBLE after it all & immediately reset#Soul would only do it outta self defense rlly. and it would be against a strong enemy like the CORE monsters or like Undyne or smthin#i feel like a total worst possible scenario. like if a genocide route were even a thing for any of them. it would be from Soul#like maybe no matter how many times they get an ending they cant get “the right one”. like say they're all stuck doing neutral endings#[cos they aint whole or whatever]#so he just empties the whole underground hoping that#in the end he'd have enough control over the timeline or M&H that he can get the good ending or at least try somthin different#again that's like a rlly big maybe tho lol. if a geno route were to ever occur. dunno if soul would even get through it all#cos 1. he'd still feel horrible about it & 2. mind & heart would at some point work together against him.#In short. none of them would actually kill with malicious intent. just by accident or outta self preservation#As for Whole. Hes just like. A guy™ Wouldnt kill no matter what. Like when he knows he can reset. He'll just come back & do smthin differen#Also yes he would def reset a shit ton. Both from dying & wanting to see different paths [also definitely learned sans' secret passwords]#whether you see him as a separate entity from HMS or not. He's the only one that can get the pacifist ending. or at least start it.#sans views on em basically; M&H-ur aight just like. chill out sometimes. Soul-def relate on the whole “there's no going back/give up” thing#but also take a breather my guy. Whole- ur doin gr8 buddy love the attitude just stop reseting an just get to the fuckin surface already jf#you should NOT have brought undertale into this. This shit is my everything. I even had to shorten all this cos there were too many tags

The Old Town of Edinburgh is honeycombed with cellars, passages, and tunnels. These subterranean labyrinths are home to ancient horrors long forgotten by the residents. Great-hand is one of these.
Great-hand lives in the tunnel beneath the Royal Mile, stretching from the Castle to the Palace of Holyrood. Once used by soldiers for surprise attacks, it eventually fell into disuse. Then Great-hand moved in and the passage was abandoned completely. Nobody ever left the tunnel alive.
The only thing that has ever been seen of Great-hand is a hand – an enormous grisly hand, with fingernails like the claws of an eagle. If that hand is attached to a body, none have seen it.
After a while of avoiding the tunnel, a piper declared he would cross the tunnel, playing his pipes the whole way to verify his progress. Taking his dog along with him, he entered through the cave near the Castle, and the sound of his pipes could be heard traveling underground as he went down the hill. Then, at the Heart of Midlothian, the music stopped. The attending crowd went back to the entrance of the cave to see the dog running out in abject terror, completely hairless. The passage was blocked up from both ends.
Similar stories are told across Scotland involving haunted caves, foolhardy pipers, and dogs shedding their hair with fright. They are cautionary tales warning of the perils of the underground.

i have never played or seen anything of outer wilds (game) and im just now watching someone play it and i keep thinking like .. man .. the sonau could have been something like that in totk, like even the architecture of the nomai in OW looks similar - very angular and mostly off-white green and gold, the name nomai is similar to the english translation for the sonau (zonai), the only(?) somewhat living one of the old and gone people is called solanum which reminds me of sonau and the ore sonanium (engl. zonaite), heck the nomai are goat like looking people with three eyes and use a highly advanced but little understood tech that you need to discover!!! they got swirly patterns alot! they even fuck up some time stuff!!
and im not saying nintendo copied them or something, the general idea isnt something all too unique (as no ideas are) but some of the similarities (like highly advanced in tech three eyed goat people that have a white and green/gold color scheme) do just make me sad bc i keep thinking about thats how the sonau could have been (minus the space stuff but moreso the VIBES and theme, game design aorund them!!), the way its done in OW is so neat, also i love that you cant understand them without a tool and you cant really communicate with them in turn like either! like the fact that there is not even a hint of a language barrier to the sonau in totk is like??? especially given the time span that is supposed to be between the past and the present in totk, not being able to clearly communicate would have been a really good and rather easy way to make the sonau more mysterious! even if you gave them subtitles that translated their language later on it would still make them feel a little more ancient
... actually ..its even worse .. in totks present theres only few people that can translate the text of the sonau, so the idea is there .. but how is zelda able to talk to them no problem? and rauru with you also mineru you could argue its bc they spent a long time as ghosts on the islands or in the shiek- purah pad but neither of them had any contact to the surface so that doesnt work, zelda teaching it to them also doesnt work bc that would take time she doesnt have and she literally talks to them all normally the literal first time they even meet ... it just being bc the hylian language never changed somehow so rauru and mineru just talk hylian is ...... the most boring answer tbh, not even slightly different manner of speech? over all that time? not some sort of accent?? even some of the old zora got one in botw (at least in german .. then again they also removed dumsda (engl. hudson) quirky way to talk ..... ), nothing? no??
it kinda plays into the whole lot that is a big problem with totk imo, the idea is there or even mentioned but its either not acted upon, never adressed or answered the most boring way
