CARMILLA KARNSTEIN HEADCANONS (BOOK)
Warning: Here I will write some headcanons that I thought about Carmilla (from the book, not from the webseries). Also, english is not my native language, so may have here some gramatical slips (so please be gentle with me!). That's my first autoral post! Saying this, let's begin!
1. Carmilla has a HUGE obsession with dolls. She has a dollhouse colletion with inumerous dolls. Her favorite is a doll that's she named Elizabeth, she is ginger with blue eyes and dresses a florid dress.
2. Carmilla writes loveletters to Laura A LOT, but she never show any of them to her. She wishes to show to her someday, because Carm loves to demonstrate all her love and affection for Laura. She fears that Laura reject her.
3. Carmilla favorite colors is: red, black and purple.
4. Carmilla loves music and dance, especially waltz. She loves music so depleely that she asks for her Mother for piano lessions. Obviously, she fell in love completly for the instrument.
5. Carmilla loves cats, especially black cats. She adopted one when she was in Paris and called him Hades.
6. Carmilla loves to travel. Her favorite vacation destinys are Paris, London and Florence.
7. Carmilla likes to sleep a lot and HATES when someone wake her for some reason (except Laura).
8. Carmilla takes a lot of care of her hair (which is very long and wavy, almost reach her hips).
9. Carmilla don't believe in God since she turned into a vampire.
10. Carmilla is a Scorpio and her birthday date is October 24th.
11. Carmilla have a deep depression. Laura don't understand her humor instability, but tries to care for Carm and make her feel better.
12. Carm feels a deep guilty for hurt and kill other people for her own surviving as a vampire. She wishes never hurt anyone, especially Laura.
13. Carmilla loves chocolate, cakes and candies. And by the way, Laura bakes a lot of them for her lovely vampire.
14. Carm is a polyglot. She knows english, french and german fluently (german is obviously her native language).
15. Carmilla loves to flirt with Laura, besides praising her. She adores when Laura's cheecks turn red when she praise her pink lips or her beautiful blonde hair. And of course, asks for Laura to kiss her when they are alone.
So guys, I'm finishing this post here! Maybe later I will post more, if I remember because my memory is not the best and I am a very distracted person! If you like this post, please like or reblog.

katiee, your lovely styria anon is making me have a breakdown over piarles races that are very significant to not only their careers but also to each other
like this makes me remember monza, they will always have monza! they're tied together, their names are inked next to each other in history and the fact monza is their favourite race win?? like it was the race pierre got to fulfill one of his biggest dreams, the biggest possible fuck you to rb & everyone that doubted him. for charles, it's the race where he got the meaning of belonging, the understanding of the true power of ferrari and tifosi, it's where he finally felt accepted and loved. monza is theirs individually but also theirs collectively, only they have felt true magic there
and in 2019, it was a hard weekend for pierre (with the press conference picture you reblogged, with still processing anthoine's death, with dealing with the true weight of him going back to toro rosso), but he was so happy for charles anyways? and in 2020, it was a hard weekend for charles, a ferrari double dnf in monza of all places in one of the worst years ferrari has ever lived through, and then it was a huge crash, even he said that it was big. for charles, whose first response is to always ask about the car or yell at himself, he was so shaken up that he couldn't stop saying that it was a huge hit. he would have had bruises for days and that idiot was so happy with pierre winning that he not only postponed his medical check up but also watched the podium. how many drivers except the ones on the podium, even watch it?? he also nearly threw off romain to hug pierre. charles is never happy unless he wins and he was GRINNING for him like he had won it himself
charles and pierre always continue to place their friendship over everything else, they keep choosing each other every single time because they know what they have, even platonic, is something special, is something they'll never have with someone else. it's just them against the world, against every other person
they've been each other's number one constant their whole lives (i would have said este too but with the ups and downs in their relationship, i don't think he's a constant the way charles is) and now they share such a huge thing.
I can see them keep coming to visit monza again and again together, even when they've both retired (even if they have failed to recognise that they're soulmates in more than just the romantic sense hehe)
monza is theirs, they've made it theirs, and nobody can ever take it from them.
ahhhh, HIIII my lovely monza anon, and sorry for being the most distractible person in the world and only getting to this reply now 🙈🙈 but omg. THIS!! every word you have said here makes me ‼️ in the best way possible.
like. their names forever being inked together in history at monza... find me flat on the FLOOR omg. it always makes me think of that one interview where pierre is talking about them watching f1 on charles' couch and dreaming about making it one day, but knowing how small the odds are. but now they're HERE!! those two little dreamers are here, they made it, and they made it together, and monza will always be a reflection and an irrefutable proof of that. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
ALSO!! everything you said about them being happy for each other's monza wins despite everything is just... yes. yes yes YES. in both 2019 AND 2020, it would have been more than understandable if pierre and charles weren't visibly happy for each other/didn't go congratulate each other. but no. they literally said "no <3" and "he's my best friend" and celebrated each other as though they were the ones who had won. and i just. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. they just mean so much to each other, even if you put all shipping aside - their support and genuine joy for each other is just absolutely beautiful, and definitely something special in this sport.
and everything you said about them being constants for each other... gahhhh, go straight for my heart, why don't you? like. that is one of the things i love most about piarles. the history, the familiarity, the "of course i'll be there with you" of it all. it just makes me want to scream and cry and tear my hair out because THAT. that is what otps are made of. that is the epitome of childhood best friends to lovers and i just... AHHHHHHHHHHHHH ❤️❤️❤️
and as for that second-last paragraph of yours... you know, i feel like this is something that should become a fic. 20k slow burn best friends to lovers; them going to monza year after year and making it a tradition because "it's our place, pear. no matter what happens, it's ours" 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️ and!!!! oh my GOD... i was just listening to the song walls by louis tomlinson earlier tonight, and. that lyric "for every question why, you were my because?" THAT. don't you think that would be the most perfect title for a piarles monza fic like this?! ‼️‼️‼️
... anyways. yes. well this answer got incredibly long and rambly, to the surprise of none 😅😅 but, monza anon, i love you so much and thank you so so very much for sending this amazing ask 😍❤️❤️❤️

Book Carmilla vs Adaptations (SPOILERS)
Here are a few 'interesting' adaptations. I like some of them for their own merits, but mostly dislike them as Carmilla adaptations for the below reasons, with some notable exceptions: Vampyr: The Dream of Allan Gray (1932 film): The first Carmilla inspired movie, although it keeps almost NOTHING from the novella except 'female vampire'. In this case, a creepy old lady rather than a charming young lesbian. This is a really moody, slow, acid trip of a film though, a treat for fans of vintage vampire film. (3/10) Hammer Karnstein Trilogy: The Vampire Lovers is the gayest and most book-accurate. Carmilla still kisses/seduces men before killing them, boo. The second one her identically-named reincarnation is blonde and has sex with / falls in love with a man booooooo. She's not in the third one at all. It's all very 70's and nowhere near queer enough, but at least we got the incomparable Ingrid Pitt in the first movie. 5/10. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust: 'Carmilla' shows up as a surprise third act villain. She's an elegant and imposing vampire queen with a castle called "Cjethe" and the Vampire King offed her previously for being A Bit Too Extra. She's... Bathory. She's Elizabeth Bathory, right down to the name of her historical castle, the elaborate gowns and the blood-bathing. Bathory in Castlevania Nocturne even looks a lot like this one. Cool scary vampire lady, but Carmilla In Name Only. 4/10 Castlevania (Games): She's fine here, but mostly just kind of a big Dracula groupie like most of the other non-Dracula vampires. Often depicting as a flying skull or mask crying bloody tears, with optional succubus-like figure reclining on top of it. Cool. Rondo of Blood has her appear together with a ninja vampire Laura with bunny ears because why the hell not. 6/10 Castlevania (Netflix show): Baddass, angry Karen. She's amazing in the first season when she's scheming against Dracula, but after that she just sort of sits on her butt sipping wine and griping about men for a whole season until Isaac storms her castle. A cool character but not a great Carmilla, because Carmilla for me is defined by how much she loves women, not how much she hates men. Still amazing voice work by Jaime Murray though and her last stand was insanely baddass. 7/10
Carmilla Web Series / Movie: My favorite adaptation. It's obviously playing waaaay fast and loose with the canon and reframing her as a charming antihero in a zany urban fantasy, but there's deep current of love for the source material, especially in the movie. Natasha Negovanlis has charisma off the charts and the Hollstein romance is adorable. This Carmilla might be a black-leather-wearing snarky millenial goth with a Canadian accent, but as the show goes on it peels back layer after layer of the romantic, poetic, wistful, world-weary immortal hinted at by the novella. This show redeems LeFanu's lovelorn villain in all the best ways. 10/10. 2019 movie / Styria movie: I still haven't seen these, have heard good things about the gothic cinematography on the most recent one but not good things about the rest of it. The trailer looked moody and pretty though, I may watch it at some point.

Tumblr media
With a towel wrapped around your body and your hair damp, you leave the bathroom to dress for the day after your morning bath. Adrian had been in your room when you left but now he was nowhere to be found. You think little of it and assume he must be in the kitchen making breakfast. He always insists on caring for you, especially your health, with recipes from his childhood that he learned either from his perch on his mother’s hip or from stretching up on his toes so that he could watch her over the kitchen counter.
You smile to yourself when you picture it: this tiny little boy with all his blond hair following his mother around this colossal castle like her shadow. Based on the man you know him now to be, you can only imagine that Adrian was the sweetest little boy.
How could that boy have grown to suffer so much?
This question crosses your mind when you also find the kitchen empty, no sign of Adrian having been there at all. He wouldn’t go to the Hold or out foraging without telling you. Perhaps he had gone to one of the lower levels of the castle to the cool room in order to get some ingredients to cook with? Upon checking there you also found no traces of your lover.
You begin to grow increasingly more worried about his whereabouts. When Sypha moved the castle and in the battle that followed, many of the windows were shattered. You and Alucard have been doing your best to board them up but Dracula’s Castle was immensely big and there were still many opening that you#ve yet to seal up. Had a night creature got in somewhere? Is Alucard now in some room of the castle fighting the beast or beasts? Your heart begins to anxiously flutter in your chest.
So far, the creatures that you have encountered post-battle have all been drawn to Dracula’s death site and so that is where you go. Despite Dracula being dead and his war being quashed, you know that you’re not out of the woods yet: night creatures from his army still roam freely, Dracula’s court is in disarray and has become a breeding ground for political turmoil – especially when considering how you’ve already heard talk that the four Queens of Styria are already on some mission to create their own empire. You can’t settle, you can’t give yourself a moment to relax when there’s windows to board up, the Belmont Hold to repair, food to find, rooms to clean and your lover is missing.
As you begin approaching Adrian’s childhood bedroom, the faint sounds of sobbing grow louder and louder until eventually you’re standing in the doorway. Adrian’s head is in his hands, blonde tresses falling around him like a curtain to hide his pain from the world while he curls up on the floor at the foot of the broken bed. The floor is scorched from the wake that his father’s death left behind; naught but a wedding ring is left behind.
Whether Adrian hears, smells or senses you, you have no clue – you just know that his dhampir senses are far superior to yours – but when he looks up, the whites of his eyes are a milky pink with the bloody tears that are staining cursed rivers down his cheeks. His thick blond lashes are clumped with the half-dried blood which tells you that he’s likely been here and crying since you first got into your bath this morning. But you can’t bear to simply stand there and watch him suffer.
You’re quick to join him on the floor, kneeling by his side and wrapping your arms around him, feeling his face bury into your shoulder and stain your fresh shirt with his bloody tears but you couldn’t care less about that. One of your hands comes up to caress his golden hair, nails lightly scratching over his scalp in a comforting manner as you hush him and press soft kisses to the side of his head, gently rocking him in your arms as he clings to you. He holds you so tight that it’s rather uncomfortable but you don’t say a word because your comfort currently doesn’t matter to you in the slightest. It’s only once that his sobs have calmed down to ragged breaths and sniffles do you finally pull away. You cup his face in your hands, thumbs first smoothing over sharp cheekbones before they swipe under his eyes to begin smearing away his tears. You first softly kiss his forehead and then his mouth, resting your head against his as you breathe slowly and steadily in the hope that he’ll mimic you and it’ll help him calm down sooner.
“I killed him…” He breathes out, words so quiet as though he can hear God damning him a thousand times over for his sin.
“My love… he was already gone. His heart died the day your mother was taken from this world. He had lost his mind and so many others would have died if not for what you did. Wherever he is now, I’m sure that your mother is in his arms and he finally feels whole again. You don’t deserve to carry the weight of this burden alone, you should have come to me…” You wipe more tears from his face, using the back of your hand to dash away the large collection of them upon the bottom of his chin. “Being in this room won’t help you. Why don’t we go and make breakfast and then we can go for a walk, hm? We can find mushrooms, fish, and find somewhere nice to just sit and cuddle for a while when the sun comes out in the afternoon… What do you say?” You ask him as you tuck some of his hair behind his ears. He nods as you cup his face in your hands and he then leans his forehead upon your shoulder.
“Thank you…” He says softly, “I… I have no clue what man I would be all alone in this place if I didn’t have you by my side.” He kisses your collar and you help him to his feet, hoping that a change of setting will make him feel better.

I have a request could you do the Castlevania cast reaction to there s/o being a barbarian like there 8 feet tall and very strong but has a very kind heart and is very protective of them.
Awww!!
Trevor/Sypha/Alucard/Greta - blushing, staring, gods you’re so tall?? Just a kiss??? But so sweet and cute?? The kids like you??
Dracula - you two are the perfect height for kisses! And your kind nature easily seizes his heart!
Isaac - your kind nature is refreshing as he has a new perspective on life, and the tall build wards of those who try to seek trouble
Hector - he feels protected and utterly fails at hiding his blush when you call him sweet nicknames
Carmilla & Styria - Carmilla feels genuinely touched for the first time, thinking she’s found the ideal lover. Striga has someone for sparring, and Lenore and Morana appreciate your softer nature
Godbrand - look me in the eyes and tell me this Viking wouldn’t appreciate a tall buff woman because he would!!

I. Why
Tumblr media
“What on earth is that?”
The voice has you lifting your head, peeking upward at the figure standing before you. The heavy scent of lilies fills your nostrils, but you daren’t hold the ice in that gaze for long before you place your forehead against the cold tiles; startled in your resignation.
Where is… he?
One of the guards flanking your prostrated figure scratches their head. “From the village at the base of the mountain.”
You tremble, the cold seeping through your flesh, into your bones as silence falls, a leaden weight ready to break your back.
“...and why is it here?” The voice follows, a tint of exasperation to it now. It seems to belong to a woman, but…
“... for the lord.”
Footsteps near, light as tinsel; the scent of lilies envelops you.
“Get up, girl.” You know an order when you hear one, and so muster all the vigor left in your wearied knees, the impulses crackling in your joints as you rise to full height. “What is that you were mumbling?”
You open your mouth to speak, hesitate. “I am… every year, our community sends an offering,” Your voice chokes on your heartbeat; nausea roils in your stomach. “To the lord of the castle.”
Silence.
“Do they, now? Why?”
Cold, hungering, and even more confused, you raise your gaze to see the woman better.
She is…
You look down, absently studying the stained rug beneath your feet. “Every year, if a sacrifice is presented, he… he leaves us be; he does not hunt us, it was a… a pact. I do not know more, it was done before I came to be.”
She snorts, starts pacing. “Of course, just like the disgusting old fool to …” she keeps rambling as you watch with bleary eyes, humming and murmuring as though she’d forgotten you’re there.
Your stomach aches with the hunger it nurses like a wound; you fold your arms around yourself, miserable, finally understanding what those men felt as they approached the gallows during the few executions you’d witnessed.
Suddenly, a cold grip like the kiss of winter’s breath grabs you by the chin, and you’re staring closely into eyes of blue and lips of red — crimson, like…
She smiles; you try to draw back, but her grip holds firm. “The lord of this castle is gone.” Her lashes are long, shadowing her barely-tinted irises like tender hoarfrost. “I am its master now, and whatever schemes that lecher had in place interest me not at all. This fantastically idiotic covenant ends now, with you,” she spews, and you finally understand this is actually happening, that the thread of your life is to be snipped after nary a handful of years, before you’d had a true chance of doing more than cast shadow upon the earth.
But then…
“... and I have no interest to feed,” the woman, the vampire continues. “So tell me, then, girl, what use have I for you, save for feeding you to my guards?”
“None,” you murmur, eyes closing against the sting of tears marring your filthy cheek.
The stony grip loosens, and she steps back, an eyebrow raised and sounding almost disappointed as she crosses her pale arms at her chest. “Well, that’s the worst attempt at groveling to beg for one’s life that I’ve ever heard.”
“It makes no difference,” you add as an afterthought before you can think better of it. Might these be the last words you speak? Mocking banter at the gates of the undead?
“Why did they send you, then?” she asks, and what follow are questions accompanied by a strange smile. So sharp, a most primeval fear coils deep in your center. “Did they coerce you to do it? Did they cast you out of town?”
You fiddle with the worn material of your cloak. “No, I came of my own will.”
“How stupid,” the words are blunt, but you’ve had your share of scorn — what’s a little more? And then, something unexpected happens: she dismisses the guards with a gesture, before leaning against the stone column in the tallest chamber you have ever seen.
“Maybe so, but it was the most practical choice.”
“Ah yes,” the vampire runs a slender hand through her sleek, moon-kissed hair. They said a vicious monster dwelled here, settled into this abode centuries past. They knew little else, and still, you chose to come. “Humans do have a penchant for it… being ‘practical,’ that is.” She tilts her head, like a nightbird watching the scuttling of small beating hearts in the wilds. “Don’t toy with me. I’m already bored of this game, so for the last time I put to you: why?”
You swallow and part your lips to speak. Your hunger is sharper now, stabbing you inside as fatigue has you lurching over for a minute. She moves not at all.
 “Because… because I am dying.”

How Isaactor became my OTP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am one fanfic away from having more stories on Isaactor than Trephacard. And I think that would be a good time to talk about how Hector and Isaac became one OTP over basically everyone else.
Tumblr media
Okay, technically there are still a lot more Trephacard stories, because I have several stories with just two of the three characters in them.
Still, I by now do like Isaactor more by now. Which is kinda ironic, because while Trephacard was something I started shipping, as soon as I saw the show (it just is a very obvious ship), I was like: "Sure, I can see Isaactor, but I do not have strong feelings about it."
I knew though from the very beginning of writing The lesser Evil, that it would end up with Striga and Morana returning to Styria. And from that came the idea that Striga could try to get the two forgemasters to hook up. Which lead to Five Games of Chess.
But the more I was writing about them, the more interesting did the dynamic become.
Tumblr media
What makes them so interesting to me is that they are morally complex. Like, sure, most of the cast in Castlevania has more than enough trauma (which makes for delicious hurt/comfort), but they are also morally somewhat simple.
But then we have those two, who participated in what was meant to be an absolute genocide. Kill all the humans, because for differing reasons the two of them have come to hate humanity. Something that in Isaac's case had like really good reasons. Like, duh, the man survived slavery. As a child non the less. Yes, he has all the reasons to be angry at the world.
Still, Hector was the character who I identified with most. Because he is autistic and a survivor of parental abuse. So, yes. I can very much identify with his anger at the world.
None of that however makes genocide in any way or form justified. (Duh.) And that is, what makes the two so interesting. Because this realization is something they are going to have to deal with sooner or later. That they did something unspeakably bad.
And among that realization there really is only one other person who can understand them: The respective other. Because they both were part of the genocide. They both served Dracula. In a way for different reasons - but still those reasons were somewhat similar. And only the other person really will ever understand.
Tumblr media
And yes, of course it should be mentioned that everything else also makes them such interesting characters.
Isaac easily is the best written character in all of Castlevania, where the input by Adetokumboh M'Cormack (the voice actor) really, really shows. Especially as the way the show deals with Isaac's religious conflict is so well depicted. Something that a ton of shows just struggle with - or do not show at all. I mean, how many well written Muslim characters are there in western media? And I mean, let's face it. Most western media does not even know that Sufism is a faith that exists.
Meanwhile I find Hector interesting, because he very much gets pushed into a role that normally female characters will be shown in, given he literally gets sexually assaulted within the show. I mean, for most of seasons 3 and 4 he is very much a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued. Something we usually do not see with male characters.
Tumblr media
I will also remain of the opinion: Was Isaac white, the two of them would be the most popular ship of the show. Because they just have this rivals to enemies to lovers dynamic that fandom normally goes of to salivate over.
For myself, of course, there is also just the aspect, that Hector does have quite a few canonical hints that he is still very much kinky. Which makes for fun kinky sex scenes. ;)
But in general I just think the two of them are the most interesting characters and the most interesting dynamic in the show. And I just wished more people would write and create art for them, :(

Carmilla and Laura
By S.D. Simper
"Sleep, my love." she whispered. "This world was not made for lovers such as us. But do not fear; instead, we shall build our own."
Laura is a shy, secluded girl living in a schloss by the forest in the late 19th century Styria. Everything changes by a twist of fate when she meets Carmilla. Carmilla’s allure is undeniable and her touch seems to draw a spark in Laura, a desire burning deeper than the fire of hell. But Carmilla’s reluctance about disclosing her past draws a line between them and when young women start disappearing, Laura is forced to reconcile with a hard truth about her.
While the original Carmilla deserved its place in the hall of fame, this retelling is not often talked about. Carmilla and Laura fills the gaps that its predecessor never did, so its refreshing for those who had read the original one.
Surprisingly, it is Laura who I think has the more intriguing arc of the two. She is in a constant battle between her faith and desire. Carmilla, on the other hand, is bold, unafraid, and the only time her persona is vulnerable is when she's with Laura. Their relationship is deep and endearing, and the gothic atmosphere of the whole book just adds to the vibes. I mean…a castle by the forest in an abandoned countryside with a vampire on the lose? Where do I sign up?
Filled with rich prose and captivating writing, this is a short read for anyone looking for Castlevania-esque eerie atmosphere, a timeless romance and an unforgettable ending. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Happy Vamptember! I thought it would be interesting to know where the belief in vampires came from and so today I bring you the story of the Black Queen
A dear friend of mine helped me with this story, which is part of his culture and which should be more important for us, it comes from the Queen Barbara Celjska or in English Barbara of Cilli
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barbara was born in Celje, in the Duchy of Styria, today Slovenia, as the daughter and youngest child of Herman II, Count of Celje, and Countess Anna of Schaunberg she married Sigismund, who was then the Roman Emperor, he spent a lot of time away in battles, which allowed her to stay ahead of the castle by holding court and making important decisions. It is believed that although she was married, she had many men and lovers who, when she got bored of them, she sent to throw them out of her castle. Sigismund, was a cheater, and he can't expect her being loyal to him in this case.
Rumours that she was a vampire stemmed from the following:
“Aeneas Silvio Piccolomini, who detested the Cilli family, characterized Barbara’s brother Count Friedrich as “shameless,” “materialistic,” and “a blood thirsty wildman” as well as an enemy of the church and state. He declared Ulrich, the head of the Cilli family, as a “hardened sinner” and “demon.” As for Barbara herself, Piccolomini claimed that Barbara did not even believe in an after-life. Aeneas also accused Barbara of associating with “heretics” and “abominable Hussites.” He claimed that after the death of Albrecht, Barbara and her daughter Elizabeth used to profane Holy Communion by drinking actual human blood during the liturgy. This would, of course, qualify Barbara for the clinical category of “living vampire” meaning, according to medical doctors even today, some one who drinks human blood”
-In Sear In Search of the Lesbian V ch of the Lesbian Vampire: Barbar e: Barbara von Cilli, Le F on Cilli, Le Fanu's "Carmilla" and the Dragon Order
She was not only a “vampire” She had knowledge of alchemy, politics, and managed her reign with strength and independence, to this day she is an example of what Slavic women should be. To this day, and after her, the story spread to Europe and then to the West, and little by little, from Dracula onwards, vampires grew in fame, as well as extra knowledge to represent according to the writer.
It's just a little bit of knowledge, it's not much, and I'll probably edit this post as the days go by

THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970)
Tumblr media
This one has a prologue.  A certain Count Hartog lays an ambush for a vampire lady who killed his sister.  He lures the vampire to his trap by taking her scarf, but she almost bites him to death.  However, her bosom presses against his crucifix necklace, and she is repulsed!  He hacks off her head.
We then jump to the 1790s in Styria, which was a part of Austria.  We’re at a party held by a “General” of some sort, and he is played by Peter Cushing!  His daughter is Laura.  A countess drops by, but then an ominous man appears and talks to her.  The countess must leave, but can she leave her daughter, Marcilla, behind?  The general agrees.  Laura befriends Marcilla, but Laura then starts to have nightmares and suffer from anemia, and she dies!  A doctor sees two puncture bites upon her bosom.  Because she was killed by a vampire, and the vampire is Marcilla!
Tumblr media
We next jump over to Emma, a friend of the late Laura.  The countess reappears, and she finagles to have Marcilla stay with her, except now her name is Carmilla!  We then have a repeat of what happened at Laura’s house, except we spend more time with Emma.  She has a governess, a Mademoiselle Perrodot, who is trying to teach Emma German, but Emma is stupid.  She spends more and more time with Carmilla, and they have to take off their clothes for various reasons.  Emma’s father heads off to Vienna for business, and Perrodot is left in charge.  Emma begins to fall sick, like Laura, and Carmilla seduces Perrodot, who does nothing to help the poor Emma!  Eventually, the household staff grow concerned, and the lead butler fetches the doctor (the same one who attended to Laura).  They put a crucifix around Emma’s neck and decorate her room with garlic.  Carmilla tries to enter, and she does a funny double take at all the garlic before backing out.
Emma’s father has returned by this point and is waiting for the doctor to come back.  Unfortunately, Carmilla has killed him!  (She’s also killed some local women, as well.)  The father goes to look for the man, but he comes across the general from earlier, who is accompanied by Baron Hartog!  A young man is sent to check in on Emma, and the other men head toward the abandoned Karnstein estate to find the vampire, for reasons.  (Hartog explains that the entire family was vampires, and he spent a night digging them up and driving stakes into their hearts, but there was one he could not find.)
Tumblr media
At the house, Carmilla seduces the butler and gets him to remove all the anti-vampire stuff, and then she kills him.  She’s about to run off with Emma, killing Perrodot along the way, but the young man appears.  She’s going to kil him, but he holds aloft a dagger like a crucifix and drives her off.  She then casts “misty step” and disappears.  At the Karnstein estate, the other men find the tomb for Mircalla Karnstein, but it’s empty.  Inside the house, they see a painting of this Mircalla, and they realize that she is Marcilla and Carmilla!  They find her coffin buried under the floor and take it to the chapel.  They open it.  Mircalla is inside because I guess she materialized there?  Anyway, Peter Cushing drives a stake through her heart and then chops off her head.  The portrait of Mircalla transforms into a fanged skull, much like the painting from “The Picture of Dorian Gray” (1945).  Laura is avenged, Emma is safe, but the main vampire dude remains free to carry out his nefarious plans.
Tumblr media
This was…really not good.  There is, naturlich, a strong element of homoeroticism in Mircalla’s interactions with the various women of the cast.  Mircalla tells Emma, “I want you to love me, for all your life,” but Emma is confused.  In any case, it’s impossible to tell if Mircalla is sincere, because she then seduces Perrodot.  So, instead of vampiric lesbianism being a commentary on, well, anything, it’s just there for titillation.  Cinema-wise, there are a few really strong images, such as where the shadow of Mircalla's hand reaches out toward a victim. The shot of Peter Cushing lowering Mircalla's head back into the coffin is actually beautiful, like a painting. The actors do what they can, and they certainly have screen presence, but the script is silly.  There were two sequels to this, but I don’t want to watch them.

i'll be rereading carmilla(1872) and checked my livetwt thread again to see if i'll reread/rewatch the other adaptations but most of them just suck 😭 it's mostly the endings but ig they're just copying the og... (slight spoilers)
2 of the movies (vampire lovers and carmilla 2019) have endings that i never want to see again. ik vampire lovers is in a trilogy but idk they killed her off so what's even next
carmilla(1989) i don't even remember anymore lol at least the ending isn't as gruesome as the other 2.
carmilla wolves of styria uhm we don't talk about her
carmilla & laura was heavy to read for me like the internalized homophobia was hard to get through hdkdhchf it does have good scenes that i always read lol but i never finish rereading it. the other half was like a disney movie to me😭. one of the few adaptations that has a happy ending tho
carmilla webseries(&movie)..i wished i knew about this when i was 14 VXKDHJD i was too late so it feels a little cringy but it was still fun. also has a happy ending so yay. i heard the book was shit tho so i didn't bother with that
carmilla the first vampire (comic) she's a dragon yipee. it felt kind of rushed idk it didn't rlly stick with me hxkdgdkhd and yea she died here too so

How is autumn in Austria? Do you have some special traditions? I saw that there is so much snow in the Alps 😍😍
How is it? Well right now it's way too cold for September if you ask me.😅😐 Average highs are about 15° right now where i live and a few days ago it was even only 8/9°C ... 🥶
There are autumn lovers but i'm not so fond of autumn personally. There are better seasons for me. I also just came home from Italy with pleasant (for me) temperatures around 25° to it being so cold so that wasn't nice.😂
September has been more summer than autumn the last years. With it still being hot in the first half of september and temperatures can still reach or pass 20° even towards the end of the month. So not sure i really see September as autumn but October approaching definetly is.
Altough as it is now even autumn lovers would think it is too cold i suppose, it's also rainy. No glorious autumn days yet :( but they can still come. I'm doubting this is September not November with how cold it is 😂😅
Where i live there's no snow. On the mountains yes but very high up. Don't know exactly about other parts of Austria but often it snows more in Tirol and the western parts of Austria. 😉 Maybe you also saw the snow in Gregor's story on the mountain. 🙈 Looked beautiful 😍
About traditions: The traditions are mostly food we eat here. Obviously there are all kinds of pumpkin dishes, like pumpkin soup. Or also making jack o'lantern's. Halloween is also celebrated here but it's not so big. With little children going from door to door in costumes asking for sweets. And there are Halloween party's of course in private or clubs.
But more typical are the food stands with roasted chestnuts i think. Where i'm gonna study, the south eastern part of Austria and Styria "Sturm" is a specialty. It's an alcoholic beverage, it's freshly fermented grape juice. Like wine but before it becomes wine so it has less alcohol in it. But the amount of alcohol in it can vary a lot and it becomes more later in autumn. Often you eat and drink these two together.
Don't think there's much more :)
Thank you!🥰 hope you have a nice day!

The Vampire Lovers (1970)
AN EROTIC NIGHTMARE OF TORMENTED LUSTS THAT THROB IN HEADLESS, UNDEAD BODIES!
In the heart of Styria the Karnstein Family, even after their mortal deaths, rise from their tombs spreading evil in the countryside in their lust for fresh blood. Baron Hartog whose family are all victims of Karnstein vampirism, opens their graves and drives a stake through their diabolical hearts. One grave he cannot locate is that of the legendary beautiful Mircalla Karnstein. Years of peace follow that grisly night until Mircalla reappears to avenge her family’s decimation and satisfy her desire for blood.

An underrated wine destination just two hours southwest of Vienna, South Styria, Austria is a stunning wine region with gorgeous rolling hills, endless vineyards, charming village towns, picturesque scenery, and hospitable locals. The Southern Styrian Wine Road runs from Ehrenhausen to Leutschach, and it’s the perfect place for adventurous wine lovers as the area boasts great hikes along many trails and country lanes with, you guessed it, incredible views. South Styria is best known for its white wines, including the Sauvignon Blanc, but red wine connoisseurs shouldn’t be deterred as the region’s most prominentred, the Blauer Zweigelt, is worth a sip.
Take a sip of wine and start dreaming of Austria. When the time isright, we’ll help you visit in person!
