I hope no one’s done this yet lmao
Death says he was there for every one of Puss’ deaths. For someone who’s not a ‘cat person’, that’s gotta be a bit frustrating
(I only drew in El Lobo; the rest of the art is in the movie, by Dreamworks)

So here's something I saw very intelligent people pick up on: at first, Kitty is reflected in Puss's eyes, but he isn't in hers, because he loves her but he hurt her, and she has her walls up whereas he's still plain head-over-heels. Then, at the end, they're both reflected in each other's eyes, because Kitty now trusts Puss and they're both equally in love and open and vulnerable with each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But look. The same thing happens with Puss and Lobo. During their first fight, Death is reflected in Puss's eyes, because Puss sees him as a threat, while he is not reflected in Death's eyes. (In fact, the reason that second shot looks so out of place is because Puss wasn't even worth a proper eye shot to Death, that's how trivial he was.) And during their final fight, they are both reflected in each other's eyes, because they're fighting as equals.
The parallels are so tasty

Friend of Papa's
Summary: Puss's time has come and it seems Muerte is going to make a tiny friend
---------
The full moon hung high in the sky as laughter came from a small house that was surrounded by an endless desert,a fence squared around this house and the few crops that grew near the house.
“Kids, Perrito,” A female, blue-eyed, black tuxedo cat with a white chest, whiskers, muzzle, tail-tip, eyebrows and paws wearing a brown belt dark brown heeled boots called as she walked across a table to put a book on one of the higher shelves, “keep the volume down. Puss is sleeping.” She informed.
“Sorry, Kitty!” A male chihuahua, Perriot, with brown, white and black fur and blue eyes wearing a white and blue sweater called as he looked up at the black and white cat, Kitty, a male white kitten with black splotches and blue/green eyes giggling as he held onto the dog's head. Kitty shook her head and laughed as she jumped off the table, her boots clicking as she landed on her feet. “Just keep it down.” She pleaded softly.
“Kitty, amor!” A tired, raspy voice called, making the black and white cat’s blue eyes widen as she looked over her shoulder. “Leave them be!” A male orange tabby cat with green eyes said, his face sunken in and tired, his fur disheveled. “They are having fun!” He added as he wobbled up next to Kitty. “Puss-!”
“Papá!” A female black kit with eyes as green as Puss’s cheered before running away from the pile of black, orange and white. “Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Kitty exclaimed with worry as the black kit jumped at Puss. “Easy, mi princesa!” Puss chuckled as he shifted so he was holding the kit on his right hip. “Sorry, Papá.” The black kit apologized. “Esta bien, Sombra.” Puss said, nuzzling her head as the kit, Sombra, rubbed her head against his.
Kitty smiled softly at her husband and daughter as Puss kissed Sombra’s head before he set her down and let the black kit run back towards the tumbling pile of kits and Perrito. “Puss, you should be resting.” She advised, setting her left hand on his right shoulder, resting her right hand on his lower right arm. “I’m done resting, mi amor.” Puss said, resting his left hand on her’s, which was still on his shoulder. “I want to spend time with my family with the time I have left.” He added, smiling towards his children and canine friend.
Kitty furrowed her eyebrows and gave a concerned smile as she chuckled. “Puss, you have plenty of time left!” She argued. “With a bit of time and rest, you’ll be back-!” “I heard him today.” Puss interrupted, not taking his eyes off the kits. “He’s in the distance, but he's coming.” He added, Kitty giving him a look of pain and horror. “If I continue to rest,” he started again, coughing, “I will have wasted this life.”
Puss frowned and gave Kitty a sorrowful look when the female cat sputtered over her words. “H-How do we know for sure he’s coming for you?!” She asked. “He did chase you for, what, months?!” Kitty asked as Puss turned to face her. “Mi amor…” He started softly, gently running the back of his right hand against her cheek. Kitty let out a soft, pitiful sigh as she grabbed onto his wrist and hand, keeping it on her cheek. “The time has come.” He said.
Kitty pressed her lips together and furrowed her eyebrows together before letting out a soft sob, Puss pressing his forehead against her’s. “Mi amor,” Puss croaked. “Mi vida.” Kitty whispered back. The pair stood there before they turned and looked back towards the pile when one of the kits squealed. “Niños!” Puss cheered as he walked towards the chihuahua and kits, Kitty hesitating to let go of his arm. “Papá!” A male white and orange tabby kit with blue eyes cheered as he and a male calico kit with green eyes jumped at their father, making the sickly cat laugh as he fell onto his rear, the other two kits and Perrito rushing over.
Kitty watched with a sad smile and gave a half-hearted laugh as she wiped her tears away. ‘Please…Let him be wrong…’ Kitty prayed.
3 Days Later
“Alright, kids!” Kitty laughed as she set Sombra and the white and black kit down in a basket bed, the ginger and white kit and calico kit climbed into the bed. “Cálmate, cálmate. Time to sleep.” She said softly as Sombra slid out of her arms and landed in the bed. “Can you stay with us for a while, Mamá?” The white and black kit asked, clinging to his mother. “What?” Kitty asked, chuckling. “Why, Egg?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
The white and black kit, Egg, only responded with a soft grunt as he hid his face in her chest. Kitty frowned down at her six-fingered son before she looked towards the bedroom door, worried for her husband who was sleeping in a room down the hall. “Alright.” Kitty sighed, kicking her boots off. “Just until you all fall asleep.” She said, still holding Egg as she climbed into the basket.
“I don't need cuddles!” The ginger and white kit said proudly as he crossed his arms. “Alright, PJ.” Kitty chuckled as she laid down on her side, Egg curling up against his mother’s belly while the calico kit settled between his mother’s arms and Sombra flopped over Kitty’s side. “Goodnight, Mamá.” The calico yawned. “Goodnight, Koi.” Kitty purred as she watched her litter fall asleep around her.
A Few Hours Later
By time the crescent moon was high in the sky, Kitty had fallen asleep with her kits, Koi sleeping under her chin in her arms, Egg curled up in a ball against Kitty’s stomach, Sombra curled up on her side and PJ laying in the crease of his mother’s animalistic legs, the upper half of his body laying over his mother’s thigh, while Perrito slept in a dog bed next to the fireplace and Puss slept in his and Kitty’s shared room.
“Huh?” Puss croaked out as a low, menacing, yet somewhat comforting, whistle rang out through the night air. The sickly tabby took in a deep, raspy breath and coughed before he settled again, a soft smile on his face. “Took you long enough, Muerte…” Puss wheezed, looking towards his bedroom window as the moonlight was blocked out.
Standing at the window was a large, silvery-white, bipedal wolf with a gray mask-like-marking on his face, sharp teeth, and bright red eyes wearing a black riding cloak with a built-in hood, and brown trousers under the cloak with a pair of razor-sharp sickles on each hip.
“Yeah, yeah.” The wolf huffed as he lumber towards the average-sized bed, which was ten times too big for Puss. “Be grateful.” He said as he sat down on the bed. “I was supposed to come get you three days ago.” He added, removing the sickles from his sides. “Hehehe…I figured when I first heard your whistle.” Puss chuckled weakly, closing his eyes.
The two sat in silence, the only sound being Puss’s ragged breaths, while the wolf’s red gaze was locked on the horizon outside the window. “Muerte…” Puss wheezed out, making the wolf. Muerte, look over at him out of the corner of his eye. “I have but one request of you…before I go.” He said, coughing. “What? Want me to give your little gatitos extra lives?” Muerte asked, a smirk on his face.
Puss let out a weak chuckle and shook his head. “No, no…” He said. “No…” He sighed before opening his eyes and looking over at the cloaked wolf. “I want you to treat my children differently than you treated me.” He said. “What? Was the chase no fun, Gato?” Muerte asked, raising an eyebrow. Puss just chuckled and shook his head. “Muerte,” he started in all seriousness, “I want you to visit my children when they lose their first lives.” He requested.
Muerte’s eyes widened and he looked at the sickly cat with a shocked expression. “You were right…” Puss started again as the wolf tried to think of something to say. “Through all of my ventures, I never knew you were there…watching.” Puss continued. “Or, maybe I did, but ignored you.” He corrected, shrugging. “I do not want that life for my sons and daughter.” He said, looking up at Muerte again. “I want them to cherish every life they have like it will be the last. Strike the fear of Death into them.” He finished, looking up at Muerte again.
The wolf stared down at the orange tabby before he chuckled. “Looks like you took my warning to heart.” He observed. “Warning?” Puss questioned, raising an eyebrow. “Yeah. You didn’t think me telling you to live your life well was me being nice, did you?” Muerte asked, making Puss chuckle. “I suppose it could be taken either way.” He sighed, smiling up at the ceiling, before the two fell into silence again, the wolf looking out the window again.
“I will do as you request.” Muerte finally agreed, not looking down at the tom. Puss smiled and let out a soft sigh. “Thank you…Muerte…” Puss breathed out as his eyes slowly started to close. The cloaked wolf looked down at Puss and watched the orange tabby’s breathing slowed before he started whistling his eerie melody as he stood up and pulled his hood onto his head, putting his sickles back onto his sides. “Hasta luego, Puss in Boots.” Muerte nodded before heading towards the bedroom door.
“Who are you?”
Tumblr media
Muerte stopped in his tracks and his eyes widened when he saw Sombra standing in the hallway, a few feet away from the bedroom door. “Uhh…” Muerte uttered out, unsure what to respond with. “Why are you in Mamá and Papá’s room?” Sombra asked, seeming to not realize the wolf didn't answer her first question. The wolf let you a soft chuckle and smiled down at the small kit. "Just saying goodnight to your Papá." Muerte answered. "Oh…Can I tell Papá goodnight?" Sombra asked, smiling up at the wolf.
The wolf's smile fell and he glanced over his shoulder at the open door. "Actually," he started, grabbing his left sickle off his side and using it as a hook to pull the door close, "Papá is already resting.” He said, looking down at the kit out of the corner of his eye.
“Oh.” Sombra said, looking down at the ground as her ears flatten. “Well then,” the wolf started, Sombra’s ears perking back up as he scooped her up in his right hand, “I think that means we should get you back to bed.” He said, holding the kit close to his chest, his left hand held up behind her. “I’m not tired!” Sombra argued, crossing her legs. “Yeah, yeah. That’s what the little ones say.” Muerte huffed as he started down the hall.
`Sombra tilted her head and blinked up at the wolf before she raised both her hands up and grabbed onto the right side his muzzle, earning a soft snarl from Muerte as he curled the right side of his lip up, revealing his razor-sharp fangs. “Wow!” Sombra exclaimed, a wide smile on her face. “Your teeth are huge!” She pointed out as Muerte pulled his muzzle away, licking his lips. “All the better to catch my prey with.” He growled, smirking as Sombra giggled.
“So, which little one are you, gatita? Egg? Koi?” Muerte asked, making the black kit giggle more. “No! I’m Sombra!” She introduced. “Ah, the little shadow.” Muerte hummed, nodding, making Sombra giggle again.
Not long after, Muerte reached the kitten’s bedroom, her mother and brothers still sleeping. “Alright, gatita,” the wolf started as Sombra yawned, “this is where we part.” He said as he laid Sombra down next to Egg, who immediately cuddled up next to his sister. “Goodnight, Mr. Wolf… Sombra yawned, closing her eyes as she curled up into a ball. “Buenas noches, Sombra.” Muerte nodded, standing up.
The wolf stood there and looked the sleeping family over before he started whistling again, pulling his hood over his head as he turned and started walking away. Not long after the wolf disappeared, the ringing of the whistle hung in the air as Kitty gasped and sat her head up quickly.
“Puss!”
2 Weeks Later
As the days passed, Kitty felt a mix of relief and sorrow that after Puss’s passing, her kits were able to continue playing and being rambunctious. “Oh, Puss…” Kitty sighed as she watched her sons roll around in the front yard, the female cat standing in a chair with her arms crossed over the porch railing.
Suddenly, Kitty’s eyes widened, her pupils becoming slits, and her fur started to prickle and fluff out as a familiar melody whistled through the air behind her, the front door of the house slowly creaking open further. “Sombra!” Kitty breathed out in fear before she jumped off the chair and ran into the house.
Kitty grunted as she threw the door open, grabbing onto the doorframe with her right hand. A gasp escaped her when she saw Sombra sitting in the middle of the living room floor, scribbling on a piece of paper, whistling the spine-chilling melody.
“S-Sombra…” Kitty called softly, making her daughter look over at her. “Where did you learn that?” She asked. “From Papá’s friend! He came to say goodnight the day Papá fell asleep.” Sombra explained. Kitty suddenly felt her heart leap into her throat as it started beating faster, her fur fluffing out more. “Mamá?” Sombra questioned, ears flattening.
The sound of her daughter’s confused and scared voice made Kitty lunge forward and wrap her arms around Sombra as she fell to her knees. “Never ever whistle that tune again! Do you understand, pequeña?” Kitty ordered. Sombra sat there for a moment, frozen in confusion, before she hesitantly grabbed onto her mother’s fur, hiding her face in Kitty’s chest. “Yes, Mamá…” Sombra agreed, her voice muffled.
Kitty let out a shaking breath and rested her cheek on top of Sombra’s head as she tightened her grip around her and looked down at the paper Sombra had been coloring on. Scribbled onto the sheet was a black figure with red, scribbley dots as eyes. Kitty furrowed her eyebrows together before she looked away and nuzzled her nose into the top of her kit’s head.
That Night
After putting Perrito and her kits to bed, Kitty walked out onto the front porch and climbed up into the chair again, holding onto the railing. “Muerte…” Kitty started with a growl. “I know you can hear me, so listen carefully…” She looked up at the night sky. “¡Aléjate de mis gatitos!” She yelled.
Oblivious to her, up on the top of one of the desert mountains, was a dark silhouette, his cloak and tail blowing in the breeze as the moonlight reflected off his sickles.

AU (?)
Red Riding Hood first met Death a long time ago, when she entered the wood. Little she knew about the true nature of him, but what surprised the wolf wasn’t the fact that she wasn’t scared, but that she could see him even though she wasn’t supposed to… at least, not at that moment.
That day will completely upset her life.
Years have passed, Red is now in her 20s.
The Wolf not only finds out that she has become a wanted outlaw, but that she’s also sentenced to death.

As a personal headcanon, I don’t think that El Lobo de la Muerte is cruel to the average person.
His sadist streak tends to surface when someone attempts to cheat death or fail to appreciate their own life whilst not fearing/respecting death. And for someone whose main existence requires a sort of tact when bringing souls to the afterlife, the need to Hunt settles into a very exciting Primal urge that El Lobo doesn’t typically get to follow.
While he’s definitely not cuddly or fuzzy, I like to think that El Lobo does have a gentler nature to those who need it.

Read "I Do Not Fear Death" and its so so so good so I drew smth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Tell me, what is the real reason you’re tagging along with me, anyway?” He asked, getting straight to the point. “Because obviously you would be able to get up to all kinds of epic adventures without the need for any of my help.” He logiced. “Or anyone else’s for that matter.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Have you ever had someone run from you in fear before you even opened your mouth?” Lobo asked, eyes glancing over to Puss.
Tumblr media
“Of course I have!” The hero scoffed. “My mere name strikes fear into evil do-ers from far and wide!” He proclaimed with a thump to his chest.
Tumblr media
“Well what if that happened with everyone you ever met?” The oddly somber wolf said, resting his chin on his fist as his gaze slid off to the side once again, seeming distant.
Puss sobered up at that.
Tumblr media
“Whenever I approach someone their first instinct is to get away, their eyes filling to the brim with fright before I’ve even spoken, making a break for it the second I draw near.” Lobo explained. “There's usually screaming involved as well.” He added, almost as in afterthought. “It’s always been that way."
